Okay, mild rant incoming. If you have strong opinions about Shane from Stardew Valley, look away and keep scrolling. No need to get your undies in a twist. Don't give yourself a wedgie over my opinions.

The Stardew Valley fandom is so guilty of this when it comes to Shane.

Shane was never a professional gridball player, nor did he injure himself and ruin his career. Nowhere in the game dialogue is that a thing. I often see this being floated around as fact, and it's just not? The only evidence people have for this is this quote:

“If… If only… ah, I was just thinking back on the glory days, when I played gridball on the varsity team. Now I'm old and weak, though…”

Y'all... He played in high school or college. In fact, on the wiki, it lists this in his trivia section:

He used to play for his high school's varsity gridball team.

2. Shane is not going out and starting barfights, punching people's lights out, or engaging in any other manner of violent BS. This is another one I see all the time. You mean to tell me that this man is going out and fighting people on purpose? He doesn't have the energy for that. Also, there's not a single thing in his dialogue that paints him as an angry or violent person. Not one.

“I spent all day watching TV and now my legs feel like soft dough. Guess I'll have to take it easy until tomorrow.” “Buhh… I don't feel like being productive today.” “I guess… if I had some pants I might've gone outside today… but, nah.” “[Player], should I do something useful today?… or just nap forever?”

I don't have any issues with these headcanons; in fact, I have used some of them in my writing. They're great, and they add depth and backstory to his character, but can we stop pretending they're canon events? It's weird.

I could go on and on, but you get the point. I'm done, I swear! 😅

so! all of this was already done by the time i posted the enemies. the delay isn’t *entirely* because of the tablet issues, i just managed to get distracted by making: even more redraws! i’d say new update soon but after what happened last time i shouldn’t jinx myself. but! almost All of the art for the initial mod release is done!!!! exciting!!!!!!

hey did you know that the original teleport map is slightly off center. did you know that. that’s not the case for the redraw for the record but it did make things a little harder. despite that, i think you can tell i was having fun with the dormont part of the map. i would’ve put more detail into the house, but we never really get a more detailed look at it??? and i didn’t want to make assumptions. so that part’s just traced from the original 👍. anyways shoutout to the clocktower being Curved for whatever reason

outside of those, all of the added art is actually just spritework. i didn’t know this at first, but there’s a TON of copies of sprites from the icon set. Basically Everywhere. so those are added now! and should work properly! also added a few sprites that were Missing from my original batch. not going to put them all here, but a few Important ones (which i actually had to make new art for) are the rock paper scissors cheatsheet, the Larger versions of the craft signs (used in the calamité fight and. probably somewhere else idk), and the craft signs for the tutorial kid fight!

aaaand i think that’s it! for stuff from this update. yeah no there’s more coming buddy. my tablet already broke one time this week there’s no way it’s happening twice. i’m not working on portraits Just Yet (though the temptation has been There), but i’ve got the title screens, a few backgrounds, and the ending cgs done! along with a few other assorted cgs sketched out. because im out of my fucking mind. so, uh, see you soon!! enjoy!!

Sae Niijima is such a good character it drives me insane a little. She's not a mother nor a maternal or doting older sister but instead a twenty four year old who was thrown into a position of responsibility that she never asked for. She loves Makoto just as much as she resents her and its so apparent every time they talk up until November. "Are you studying?" (I want you to do well) (I need you to get a job and stop making my life harder) "I'll use any method necessary to get this promotion" (Life will be easier for us) (So stop distracting me with your problems) "Focus on your future" (I know that you're capable) (I can't afford to waste my time on you, so stop wasting time on others)

Makoto is not only the sole reason she pushes as hard as she does for a promotion, for success, and the reason that she loses herself in her animosity over her fathers death, but also someone she can't stand for so long. Makoto was 14-15 when their father died. Sae was 21. As soon as she got the career she wanted and things started to look up, her stability was robbed from her and she was disillusioned with the system that her father had taught her to rely on and completely adhere to. How do you manage, the daughter of a cop, following his footsteps towards law enforcement, when you're suddenly reminded of how unfair it is? You can't quit, your little sister relies on you and she's so young and struggling just as badly with this grief. So you pick yourself up and you get moving again. You push harder, press further. You abandon your morals and your ethics because punishing criminals (guilty or not) is almost like punishing the man who killed your father.

And the whole time she's fighting for promotions, going for drinks with the SIU Director to make herself more favourable for promotions, trying to navigate being a woman in a competitive, suffocating, male-dominated field, falling behind despite doing so much where others are promoted for doing so little - all the while your little sister comes back from school and her biggest issues are so small compared to yours.

Persona 5 revolves so heavily around grief and loss and change and Sae embodies all of that so well, all of the sharp and unpleasant and jagged parts of grief.
