Chekhov's Guns I'm Pretty Sure Asagiri hasn't Fired Yet (Because I haven't fully read the Manga):

Q/Kyuusaku: where the fuck did he go?

Defected Guild Members: Are they ever going to come back? Did they ever make their own organization? Are they going to fuck Francis up if they find out he's alive?

Is Simp Reverend Mc Brainwashed a trap? Because I'm pretty sure he's a trap. He was waaaaaaay too easy to catch. (He better not kill Lucy.)

Speaking of--where's his girlfriend(?) ? Didn't Yosano heal her??

Where are Naomi and the receptionist?

Where the fuck is Catsman mc Plotface (does HE have the receptionists?)

Is Tanizaki going to join the mafia? (Because I really feel like he fits in too well with the Mafia, considering his sliiiiiiiiiiiight murderous tendencies.)

Speaking of the Mafia:

How many people in the Port Mafia are vampires? Is Koyou a vampire? Is Paul Verlaine a vampire? Is MORI a vampire? (Would this also make Elise a vampire?)

How are the Hunting Dogs going to react when they FINALLY find out the truth about their boss?

I feel like their whole "need surgery every month to not disintegrate" thing is also a fucking Chekhov's gun if I've ever seen one.

Side Note:

Can the vampire ability bring anybody back to life, and could it, theoretically, bring back Odasaku? Not that I think that's necessarily a Chekhov's Gun, but an interesting point--

im going crazy with how people are starting to agree with snow that sejanus was really stupid and deserved what was coming to him. reading the books first should be a pre requisite to the movie idcccc if that takes away the wider audience, the wider audience all have smooth brains anyway.

“why was he colluding with rebels when he could’ve just thought about it pragmatically 🙄” i’m in your fucking walls. sejanus was never dumb, snow just kept pushing that perception of him through the book to deflect the fact that sejanus was an actual good person. snow thought himself the personification of good and benevolence, which was why everything he did had to have some half-assed excuse as to why he was justified in doing it. it was why he was actually tweaking in the woods when lucy gray left him, because he wanted to rid himself of her but he didn’t have an actual reason so he convinced himself of the most random scenario ever to justify trying to shoot at her. so we can establish that snow was an evil broke boy who clearly wasn’t good— then sejanus was a direct confrontation of snow’s own shortcomings towards that (i don’t think i have to detail how sejanus was genuine, it was obvious). coriolanus and sejanus are like the direct opposite characters of each other, and snow knew and took pride in this to an extent. which is why snow couldn’t admit that sejanus was good to himself, thus sejanus was deemed ‘stupid’ to protect his own deluded self actualisation (but this also includes other aspects like how the war made the plinths rich and the snows poor, leading to resentment and jealousy from snow).

“but that still didn’t mean he wasn’t doing dumb things throughout the book” was it really that dumb? a rebellion will always include some level of risk but i don’t hear anyone calling heavensbee stupid because it actually worked out for him. plus sejanus is district, so if we use our common sense of who he is as a character and emotional intelligence of his situation, it’s pretty easy to see why he would get in touch with rebels. he’s literally always yearned for the districts, he never once cared about his money or safety, which isn’t stupid, it’s sad. this was his way of dealing with the guilt of profiting from his people’s suffering— again, not stupid. you could argue he was reckless, especially when he went into the arena, but most people who simply cast him as a ‘dumb character’ ignore how troubled he is and fall into the very filtered lens of snow who was just concentrating on his stupidity.

sejanus’ growing radical actions had nothing to do with stupidity and everything to do with feeling helpless and like nothing was changing. he tried minor/low-risk things such as attempting to change the perception of the districts in the capitol, advocating against the hunger games etc etc. of course it didn’t work, so his options grew limited to more radical courses of action. its a natural line of thought— activists literally do it in real life when they feel as if their cause isn’t getting enough attention (eg. setting themselves on fire). sejanus is a desperate character who is so selfless in light of snow’s constant self-preservation. snow will always put himself first and be paranoid that he will be betrayed like he’s betrayed others, so he never understands sejanus’ disposition to help and trust people, so he labels him dumb. omg. like. sejanus is so not-stupid i’m actually gonna start freaking out!! this is defamatory leave my boo alone!! plz go read a book and work on media literacy i am begging!!!

Winter Worries

Pairings: Peter Parker x Male Reader

Summary: Peter becomes worried about you working for Oscorb and follows you home, little does he realize you see him

The snow fell in thick, heavy flakes, blanketing the city in a hushed silence. A lone figure, hunched against the biting wind, trudged down the slippery sidewalk. His breath, a visible mist, hung in the frigid air as he made his way towards his apartment building.

A sudden, sharp noise pierced the tranquility, emanating from a shadowy alleyway. The man's heart pounded in his chest as he paused, his gaze fixed on the dark, narrow passage. Curiosity warred with caution, and for a moment, he hesitated. The snow continued to fall, muffling the sounds of the city and adding to the eerie atmosphere. The man's breath quickened as he imagined the countless possibilities hidden within the darkness of the alleyway. Was it a stray cat, a late-night reveler, or something far more sinister?

With a deep breath, he steeled his nerves and cautiously approached the alleyway, the weight of the unknown heavy in the air.

As he stepped into the darkness, the snow crunched beneath his boots, and the only sound was the rhythmic pounding of his heart. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, and the shadows seemed to dance and shift in the dim light. The man's grip tightened on his coat, and he strained his ears, listening for any sound that might betray the presence of another.

Suddenly, a faint voice caught his attention. It was a familiar voice, one he'd heard many times before. "Following me now, Mr. Parker?"

A low grunt sounded from the other teen as he landed in the snow from his previous position. He walked forward, that all-too-familiar goofy smile plastered on his face. "Guilty," Peter hummed.

Peter stepped closer, his arms instinctively wrapping around his boyfriend. A look of concern flashed in his eyes, one the teen had seen often over the past year. "You followed me because you're worried," he stated, rather than asked.

The teen sighed, his hands reaching up to cup Peter's face. "You're right. I was worried about you being at Oscorp." He knew any excuse he tried to come up with would be futile.

Peter nodded, his gaze dropping to the snow-covered ground. "I know you worry, and I know you're scared that being Spider-Man could make things worse for us. But nothing bad is going to happen to me, I promise."

The teen couldn't help but smile. "Okay, okay. I trust you."

They stood there for a moment, the snow falling heavily around them. A shiver ran down the teen's spine, signaling it was time to head back to his apartment. They walked hand-in-hand down the sidewalk, Peter excitedly talking about his latest web-shooter idea. The teen cherished these moments, when Peter was just Peter, carefree and passionate.

"Come on, dork. I'll make us some hot chocolate after my shower. Whipped cream?" Peter asked eagerly.

"Of course, whipped cream," the teen chuckled.

Extremely slightly obsessed with the implications of TIES not being in 3rd Life-

Like literally ALL of them were in Dogwarts at one point or another, and I feel like the fact that there were so many of them was kinda what elevated Dogwarts to be as powerful as it was. So either people who weren't part of Dogwarts initially were a part of it in dbhc or they weren't NEARLY as much of a threat to the other factions as they were in canon.

The Crastle Alliance as well involved Impulse and Tango, so they're also cut in half in dbhc (which kinda makes me ponder a world in which Dogwarts and the Crastle fused into a single faction 👀)

Jimmy wouldn't have lost his life in Dare to Flare but honestly he'd've prolly lost it anyways to something else so that's not too much of a difference XD

There's probably also more butterfly effect stuff that I've missed by not watching TIES' povs but I am very interested in seeing what you have in mind (if you ever choose to expand on it in the future). I'm very curious how the clock plays into it...

(Also as an added ponderance, I can't help but wonder if Etho Hopper Clocks have another name in this universe since Etho wasn't alive to make them (or, for the funny route, if Etho was named after the clock instead of the other way around XD)

I am absolutely agonizing over pov and narrators for this draft that I am literally nearly done with, and it did make me wonder how much importance other writers give these things. So I am running a poll.

To preface, the following notes and elaborations on the options:

"Crucial" would mean that it has a significant impact on your writing process up to and including impacting your ability to progress.

"Important but not crucial" would mean that you consider it, and it does have an impact on the story you're telling, but it does not significantly hinder your process.

"Inconsequential" would be something like, you kinda just pick something and go with it, and do not find yourself rethinking that later.

I ran out of room with the options regarding one or both being important at the start, but that can be either crucial or merely important. If you mess around with your pov or narrators within, say, the first 10% of a draft, but don't really worry about it once you feel like you've settled on something, these are the options for you.

If you feel so inclined, elaborate in the tags on what kinds of things you weigh when you think about one or both of these! I'm curious!

Ino Should’ve Been on the Sasuke Retrieval Mission, Not Neji

I realized something and if I don't say it, it’s gonna bother me.

In part 1, pretty much every member of the Konoha 12 can be split into two categories: those who take their jobs seriously and those who don’t. The first group are the characters with something to lose or, more often, prove who tend to be more skilled than their peers. It includes Naruto, Sasuke, Neji, Rock Lee, Hinata, and seemingly Shino (although we don’t know enough about him or his motives for me to say this with full confidence). The second group either has superficial or no known reason to have become ninja and for a variety of reasons don’t really take their jobs, training, or (in some cases) even winning or losing seriously. It includes Sakura, Shikamaru, Ino, Choji, and Kiba. The only one I didn’t place was TenTen because she doesn’t have enough of a presence for me to know which she falls under.

Along with the part 1 finale, the Sasuke Retrieval Arc also serves as a wake up call for the team of genin. The entire series was a slow burn of information about how unfair and dangerous the shinobi world is—bell test set up KIA’d shinobi and that everything was not as it seemed, land of waves set up shinobi being used as tools and team 7 realizing their personal priorities, chunin exams introduced that there were much bigger fish and how cruel the shinobi world is, and the search for Tsunade arc displayed what could become of the shinobi who grew up in this system—that built to the Sasuke retrieval mission being the wake up call that not only did they need to get serious, they needed to get serious now. I could write a whole essay on this arc and what it represents, but I’ll leave it at this: the Sasuke retrieval mission made Naruto realize that he didn’t understand Sasuke nearly as much as he thought he did and the rest of his team (-the backup) realize that if they didn’t start taking their job seriously, they’d get themselves or their friends killed.

Or… almost the rest of his team. Neji doesn’t actually fall into this category. As I already said, he already took his job seriously and he was already very aware about what happened to the powerless. I’d be more forgiving if it helped move his personal arc along more or at least did something else for his character, but it doesn’t. It’s just extra screen time. And as much as I like Neji, he really didn’t need to be a part of this arc (or at least not such a large part).

You know who did? Ino. She never actually got an “oh crap, my priorities out of whack” moment. She doesn’t take her job seriously during the chunin exams, she doesn’t really show up again until the very end of part 1 for a scene here and there, then we don’t see her ‘til shippuden where she’s suddenly taking her job seriously. Maybe you could argue that Choji nearly dying was her wake up call, but it would be a pretty flimsy one considering the only reaction she has is calm relief after finding out he’s okay. Everyone else got their wake up call—Sakura during her iconic forest of death scene and the boys during this arc—but she didn’t.

Now, as you might’ve guessed from the title, I think the most obvious solution to this problem is the best. By swapping them out, Neji isn’t acting as a noticeably unnecessary inclusion and Ino gets a proper moment of character growth (and badassery). As bonus points: I think Ino would have a more interesting dynamic with the rest of the team, Ino would have more emotional stakes in the mission through knowing Sasuke and Choji sacrificing himself prior to her fight, the audience could potentially get some actual insight into why Ino (and the other girls) like Sasuke so much, and both of Shikamaru’s teammates nearly dying on the first mission he led would be even more of a swift gut punch for him. Ino should’ve been on the Sasuke retrieval mission, not Neji.

And that includes the history of the Colosseum, transcripts from matches, fighting styles that have been developed, the making of arms and armor-- everything we can save.” Flipside seemed to realize his excitement, and coughed apologetically. “Uhm… we-- I use them to study when I don't have a sparring partner.”

“Huh, resourceful,” Helsknight hummed, his gaze passing over the bookshelves. He missed the look of star-struck awe that swept over Flipside at the thoughtless compliment. Tanguish saw it though, and had to stifle a chuckle.
