Maybe the problem with Christian fiction is that it's non-denominational. People are just "Christian", with no effort put into showing what practicing that religion looks like for them specifically. No indication that there are other Christians who could have different beliefs. No wrestling with differing ideas and the struggle of how one should live out their Christian faith. And that makes it unrealistic and unrelatable.

Finally properly starting Vox Machina after making it to (almost the end of) episode 28 and I must say, having watched the first three episodes, my two favorite things have GOT to be (so far):

Actual Anime Protagonist Percy (I counted at least four Classic Anime Protagonist moments, including the Flashing Glasses, and His Whole Intro, not to mention His Different Colored Hair)

Animated Matthew Mercer in every episode??? (Like srsly I have seen him animated as a background character in all three episodes I have watched and it is FANTASTIC like YES let the DM voice every third character and show up 20+ times in the back!!!)

There are definitely others but those are the ones I feel most strongly atm.

To clarify, people can like whatever characters they like. People like Riko, which is fine. People like Seth Gordon, which is fine.

The difference between the two is that people actually recognize what a piece of shit Riko is.

My problem is that barely anyone acknowledges what a piece of shit Seth is. He's homophobic, which includes calling Nicky the f-slur and never apologizing for it. He, along with half the team, kept Matt from sleeping in his own room for over a year because they kept bringing drugs back to the dorm. He started 90% of the problems on court and at practice (that's a trk quote btw, not an exaggeration). Ya'll remember how he laughed after finding out Riko blindsided Kevin on Kathy's show right? It's realllllll interesting how yall seem to forget all about him laughing about someone being confronted by their abuser.

Again, like who you like, but don't go around acting like Seth was just some dopey college kid. He was a fucking asshole. People are allowed to like asshole characters, just don't try to claim that they aren't assholes.

feel like when ppl talk about the xreader community, they very desperately want to keep the genre and its writers in a box of what they believe it to be. and they can’t fathom that the style of xreader by nature uses certain literary devices (specifically the second person perspective) to tell its story as a way to be immersive. like yeah whatever we can argue about the semantics of an OC vs a reader-insert forever but at the end of the day, if i put my OC fanfic in second person perspective, doesn’t it then become xreader? because of the nature of the genre and the devices it’s using? i think some folks think of these fanfic genres very narrowly and only through the lens of fandom and not of writing as a craft (which predates fanfic genre you know?)—and writing itself uses literary and storytelling devices, which we can then categorize into genres if we see them repeated in certain ways.
