Lackadaisy Enrichment
#in our enclosures!!#video linked as source; which i'm glad to see already has a million views and is trending. That's Right#lackadaisy#WHICH i have been reading since at least '07 when i was thirteen my god b/c this animation is based on the ongoing webcomic#like does its influence show up Directly in some Discrete way i can point to in my art? not very easily probably. And Yet.#the inspiration....i wasn't able to be Regularly Only for at least another year / art done Nonprofessionally Online was novel to me#like wow ppl can make & post fanart of w/e they love huh....didn't know webcomics were a thing & i never really read that many since but.#good god the quality of Lackadaisy at its onset is like this is superb?? this person putting in all their talent and effort???#and Then you get years & years more art and i don't even know what superlatives to throw out abt its quality as it evolves. obsessed w/it..#if i see a new lackadaisy comic page i Will be acting out. obviously this animation is a delight & also stunning. and fascinating to also#juxtapose as a Translation / Interpretation of the comic in a different medium & standalone snippet of Story#and that we're not even quite there in the comic timeline; Taking Notes abt character info we get distilledly here....genuinely love like#take it back to '07 i'm like oh boy can't wait for the dream team to assemble. then a decade later when it did? Oh Boy. that is payoff lol#namely hooray for stitches and mudbug at the field office for every passing gangster. killing one marigold associate but not the other#which seems like a promising start to shootouts w/the other dream team triumvirate. i adore that in canon so far mordecai freckle & rocky#have met but only over a nice brunch. re: all intentions anyways. anyways i'm like Gifs Must Be Made while i'm also so riled afresh abt the#comic that i've been sooo hype for for over fifteen yrs now babeyyy Deservedly. i've done a couple of rereads & ought to do another....#For Interest it'd probably take a few sittings to catch up from the start but there is much to be engaged over....this ongoing story that's#historical fiction prohibition bootlegging cats with plenty of focus on characters & several Mysteries. which i'm better at parsing now lol#like one of the more recent rereads like Oh Of Course x (probably) accidentally killed his y & z took the fall & that's a binding secret...#Not [oh of course] abt the circumstances surrounding a's death & how b & c were involved. nor the ''what's marigold's damage'' mystery#which is great. love to not know things. love that we can readily follow all the emergent drama everyone's wading in nowadays. hell yeah#anyways admire my organized approach to gifs here. four shots each Expressions Atmosphere Action Groupshots#sure might've muddled through gifmaking for this anyways but fr being a huge lackadaisy comic enjoyer for now most of my life helps#and its very Overall Inspiration like. just really getting the [you can really just draw stuff out here] going. fr the art's detail & skill#and that enrichment like i'm gonna have a great time following this. And I Have#you don't expect a crowdfunded indie animation in the mix back then but hell yeah fellas#SIGH ok removing a 4th gif that's broken / not displayed despite reuploading then entirely remaking it. if it's a bug i'll try again later

THE GREAT ‘GATOR COUP
aka that one time the navigators of the 100th BG “got rid” of Crosby’s intended replacement as Group Navigator because they thought he was actually insane, as told by Harry Crosby in his memoir, A Wing and a Prayer
“As I saw it after my study at Oxford, Bennett and Jeffrey had changed the 100th from its original hot fly-boy individuals to 20th-century work-together warfare. From Romanticism to neo-Classicist. History in the making.
I was tired of being part of history. I wanted to go home. Let the new guy take over.
The replacement on tap for me was a captain named Leafy Hill. That is really not his name because I have resolved never to reveal the true names of officers and enlisted men whom I did not admire. War does bad things even to good people. Many of the misfits, the incompetent, the exploitive, and the cowardly whom I met at Thorpe Abbotts have gone on to put together good lives, have had good jobs and good families. I choose not to reopen old wounds.
Leafy thought he was the Group Navigator from the day he walked onto the base. He immediately scheduled himself as the command navigator on the next mission. I hit the sky and stormed into Jeff's office.
"Even command pilots fly high squadron lead on their first missions. I want to know what Leafy Hill can do before I put him up in front."
This was my first encounter with Jeff. He smiled, and talked with me the same way Charlie Via did, Virginia talk.
"Okay, don't pull the hoose down. The 100th is flying low in the wing. In the nose with a good lead crew navigator, he can't foul up too much."
When the planes came back, the crew with whom Leafy had flown were wild.
"The guy is off his rocker. He yelled over intercom all during the mission. From takeoff to landing." The crew navigator was shaken.
"That screwball actually wanted us to abort when we were on the bomb run. I think he wanted to make the run alone so he could get some kind of medal. I won't fly with him again."
I checked Leafy's log. His ETA's and routes were a tangle of misinformation. He claimed to have seen fighters and flak not reported by any other navigators.
I read the lead crew pilot's official report: "A five-hour trip. Major Rosenthal was command pilot and Captain Hill went along as second navigator. The mission was good as far as the leading went, but Captain Hill screwed up our bomb run. Our navigator gave me a 68-degree heading from the Initial Point to the target which would have been swell, but Leafy said the target was at one o'clock and the bombardier swung over as he ordered. Then he saw the target back at ten o'clock. By the time he got his course correction killed his rate was over and we messed up the run. So that's what one man can do to mess up the works."
In no time every navigator at Thorpe Abbotts was sure that Captain Leafy Hill was nuts.
But I could go home if he became the Group Navigator.
I did not have to solve the problem myself.
I was long overdue for a pass, and I decided that a London trip to see Landra Wingate might clear my head.
When I returned to the base, I heard quite a story.
One of the really great command navigators, Stewart Gillison, decided after he finished his tour that he wanted to stay in England. I welcomed him into Group Headquarters as my chief assistant. I could trust him with briefings.
Stew was not your normal guy. Under the circumstances of war, none of us were exactly level on course, but Stew was really something. At night, when he went to bed, instead of turning out the light, he shot it out with his 45 revolver. The ceiling of his room looked like a sieve, and the batman had to put in a new bulb every day.
When I got back from London, Leafy Hill was gone.
Stew had assigned Leafy Hill to fly as fill-in navigator with a crew Stew himself had flown with before he became lead. The crew flew out on the mission and came back.
Except that Leafy Hill was not with them.
When I asked Stew Gillison what happened to Leafy Hill, he said with deference unusual for him, "Major Crosby, I suggest that you don't ask."
I did ask. The pilot wouldn't tell me. The bombardier wouldn't tell me. But the copilot did.
Stew, their former navigator, instructed the crew what to do.
After the target when the group was at the R.P, a gunner called out, "We've been hit!"
That part of it was true, but that was standard. To some degree, we were almost always hit by flak over the target. Sometimes it hit the crew, and we died or we got Purple Hearts, but usually the flak only jarred the plane.
"We really weren't hit at all. The pilot only waggled the wings." The copilot continued the story.
This is what he said happened.
"Okay, pilot to crew, prepare to bail out. See you in Stalag."
"Roger, pilot." This was a chorus from the entire crew.
The pilot rang the alarm bell.
Whoosh! Out went, not all ten of the crew, but just Leafy Hill. He wasn't in on the joke.
When I heard the story I thought it was funny.
Leafy spent the rest of the Air War in Europe in a prison camp, wondering what happened to the rest of the crew.
And I spent the rest of the Air War in Europe as Group Navigator of the Bloody 100th.”

Continuation of that long, ridiculous kimchay idol resort au thing.
Part 1 is this way Part 2 is over here (last addition Oct 23, 2024)
---
@subtextsays @mightyyoiko
Chay shimmies around the trunk of the coconut tree and does his best to keep his body out of the direct line of sight from the beach.
The armed men gather around the tangled mess of parachutes that Chay and the others had left on the beach when they first arrived. He watches as the men split up into three pairs. One pair starts walking along the shoreline, no doubt tasked with checking and securing the perimeter of the island. One pair heads further inland in the direction of the abandoned resort. The final pair return to the speedboat to keep watch. And the last figure, the man who had been shouting orders, begins walking.
Towards Chay.
Chay quietly starts cutting at the stem of a particularly hefty coconut. Just in case.
.
Kim feels his phone vibrate and loses a smidge of the tension in his shoulders as he reads Arm's latest text.
Khun Nu located. Coordinates attached. Extraction in process. Chan to report within 24hrs or back up will be deployed.
There's not much Kim can do about his brother and Chay, but there is something that he can do.
He stalks out to the beach where the huddle of penguins idols-to-be and surveys their work. Tawan has been lowered feet first into a long narrow hole (he's impressed with their ability to dig so deep so quickly). Two boys have him propped up by the armpits as the others carefully fill in the hole with wet sand.
In a pleasing turn of events, he notices that Tawan is facing the slowly setting sun. As soon as the jerk is packed into the sand up to his neck, Kim positions himself between Tawan and the sun before slapping the man awake.
Tawan blinks up at Kim's foreboding figure. The face, cast in shadow and twisted in a sickeningly sweet sneer. The bright glow of the sun behind him. The row of idols caging them in from the sides. "Fuck," thinks Tawan.
.
Gun calls Vegas in for a quick meeting. Vegas learns that Tankhun went missing during a flight back from the idol resort, but word around the compound is that they've pinpointed his location to a smaller nearby island.
They have a few men inside the rescue team.
It would be such a shame if Korn's eldest son never makes it home.
Wouldn't it be an even bigger shame if the other two brothers never make it home from the other island too?
Vegas knows it's not a rhetorical question.

I've been watching the David Suchet Poirot again and it's occurred to me how funny some of the story settings are if you consider Poirot as a character. Poirot canonically does not enjoy nature. He canonically gets seasick. He exclusively wears patent leather shoes and three piece suits. He likes everything to be square and even and just so. By rights the last thing this man should be doing is traipsing through the Egyptian desert or taking long cruises on the Mediterranean. At most he should be crossing the European countryside by train, moving between the manicured estates of the various rich people whose murders he's solved and whose jewels he has recovered.
And yet. Here I am watching him mince across an archeological dig in Appointment with Death. It's been long enough since I read the actual books that I don't remember whether Agatha Christie ever bothered to justify him taking these trips and being in these places. I'm sure there's a Watsonian approach to it. But the Doylist explanation is so much funnier. Like it's the ultimate Putting the Guy in a Situation. Ms. Christie wanted to do a murder with archeology lightly flavored with orientalism, so off Poirot went to the desert. She wanted a murder on a boat, so off Poirot went on a cruise. Does he actually want to be in the desert, or on a boat? Doesn't matter, find yourself a linen suit and shine your spats, Hercule, you're going. Good luck, and don't forget to pack your mustache wax!

Actually for reals this time gonna reread 3tan (cause I said so to your face and now I have Accountability <s>at least in my head</s>)
BUT I have a question as to which way you'd prefer my feedback* :3
Commints on the chapter post
Screams in your inbox (like this)
Rb's and my rambles in the tags (May get long who knows)
On ao3? Have to disable auto-"whole work" so I'll actually comment every chapter but I can show 3tan love on ao3 as well
Secret fifth option?? (tell me)
Looking forward to rereading this masterpiece and remembering all my favourite parts 🥰💜
*I bingeread when I can so you'll likely be getting multiple activity notifs per day when I'm reading it. Spam, if you will :3

WAIT this is amazing and so cute🥺💕 thank you for even asking!! That’s incredibly kind of you. Truly, anything is amazing, any ask/comment/reblog, etc. But you really wanna know my personal ranking of coolest to get? I can list them!
Top would be reblogs! Reblogs with comments in the body or comments in the tags. This way, I can directly reply/scram to you while getting to reblog the fic to the dash again for people that may not have seen it yet🥳
Comments also are welcome on the post! I can reply directly to y’all there, too, especially with the new tumblr update💕
Asks are always always amazing🥺 honestly my favorite part of being here is getting to talk to you all, and we can do that through asks because they can spark conversations (and you can join in even if you’re shy bc of the anon feature!) It’s a great way for the community to be involved.
The anonymous feedback form i have linked on the chapters! It’s so cool because your anon feedback goes straight to my email, so i get them right away. I’m the only one that sees them, and people even post so much feedback sometimes that they have to submit multiple answers😂 it’s fantastic, literal essays and dissertations and i get to relive the fics through commentary🥺
Wattpad and AO3 comments are cool, too! They’re other ways to build community in other spaces🥳 Just not here!
But yes, anything you decide to do helps build energy and motivation🤍 Thank you for even asking, and have lots of fun on the reread!

Backtracking a bit before I continue, but Clay pleading to be let into the arena when Scarlet is about to make Tsunami and Starflight fight 8 IceWings just shows how he's a completely selfless being even to his own detriment. Because 3 against 8 isn't going to be all that different from 2 against 8, but he still needs to either go down with them or go down for them.
Being made to watch them die without being able to do anything is the worst possible thing you could do to him, and maybe Scarlet figured that out.

Pretty much always (no matter how many times I’ve edited something) when I reread it, I catch spelling errors, sometimes small like the ones I just fixed - evenge or Drean - which you can easily infer what I meant, but sometimes big like ‘do’ instead of ‘don’t.’ Sometimes the mistake changes the meaning of the sentence and it makes me wonder how many times people have read something I wrote and didn’t like it or misunderstood it because of that… how many times people thought I disagreed with them when I wasn’t because of a typo or two. For example, even as recent as a few days ago I reread a controversial post and noticed a fairly influential typo and it almost made me laugh because damn did people know to correct that in their head while reading or not and if there hadn’t been that mistake would it have changed their perception of it?…
I guess, what I’m saying is if you notice something that doesn’t make sense or a typo or something, let me know (if you do and have me blocked though I cannot see it btw lol). I’d much rather explain myself than you make a wrong assumption. I’m dyslexic and have a vision reading disability and ADHD, and sometimes I don’t make sense and a lot of times I type poorly on the little keyboard of my phone :)

#i like actually have issues#i need to ''line up'' and semi-organize my likes (which act as my bookmarks)#and like. it drives me insane when things arent how i Need them to be.#like for example three fics of the same character need to be one after the other and stuff#it goes kinda deeper and more insane but just to give you a general idea#so catch me constantly liking and unliking and reliking things a billion times#also do it to like put some things back at the top of my likes because so much gets buried so quickly and i just need to remember its there#both with things i that havent read yet and with things that i want to reread#i feel like so insane and annoying about it all the time🧎but like its just something that i Need to do...#like it actually kind of upsets me#if i dont. but also when i do.#it also honestly makes me scared/nervous that people will get really annoyed and or weirded out by it if they see/notice it happen:/#i definitely have further mental issues#anyways#basically just im sorry and please ignore me#talkin shit#maybe i should talk to someone about this. or go down the research rabbit hole. aaaaaaaanyways.#goodnight!#it is 8am and i dont know how im still awake!#this was a certified talkin shit post#absolute wall of tags jesus#sorry :p#if you read all of this. i am sorry and i love you (big deal for me)#(another issue of mine)#🧍#hashtag unnecessary off putting weirdo rant😝#my specialty#okay bye#just had to edit this post a billion times.#woah tag limit reached. its a sign for me to shut the fuck up. note taken. thanks tumblr.
