I’ve had three full days of ✨d e p r e s s i o n✨ but i just started crunching some numbers on my handy dandy budgeting notebook (my phone calculator) whilst scrolling through that dreaded website (Zillow) and it does appear
That if either 1) student loans get cancelled for real in the next year (unlikely but the hope remains) or 2) i get another decent raise (very likely according to my boss)
I could actually for real afford a two bedroom apartment in Colorado for me and Liam
And i have been crying for 30 minutes because I’ve never been THIS close before and it’s never felt THIS real before and there’s still a lot of things that have to fall just right but sometimes i do like to think that things will fall right eventually for me
#personal#sorry but like this has just been an overall shitty week#the only positive has been an unexpected raise which was very positive!!!!#but surrounded by so much shit#and i do this budget thing every month#and i have since i first visited Colorado in 2022#and this is the first time i did a mock budget where I wasn’t in the negative by the end of the month#so excuse me while i cry so fucking hard

my best guess at why the sky was indescribably but undeniably Bigger in colorado is that we were literally just closer to it, which shouldn't have any effect on the perceived bigness of literal air that already stretches from horizon to horizon, And Yet
#it's much bluer too but that wasn't it either because even when it was overcast it was still Bigger#'then were the clouds lower' NO I don't think so!!! the clouds looked normal albeit INSANELY photogenic#the SKY. was just BIGGER. I don't know!!!#driving back home from the airport back in MI I was staring so hard at the sky like. no yeah it IS smaller. but WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN--#trying to figure it out and unable to#'oh my god the clouds look about the same size and closeness?? so how was the SKY there BIGGER--'#the SKY? the FUCKING SKY?? the BIGGEST THING THERE ALREADY IS????#colorado is insanely beautiful. with a sky that just won't quit.#that sky NEVER stopped being beautiful no matter what it was doing#unbelievable....

#im at such a weird point in my life. trying to choose between a phd and a doomed life as an academic and like just not doing that.#its crazy how not terrible i feel when im not in school. just give me tasks to do and i will do them. dont let me think.#but then im just avoiding my responsibilities. i dunno. i just feel like i would be happier with a structured job that ends when the day#is over. which is y my dad thinks i should get a government job. one of my former lab mates got a government job and he's settling into#spending the rest of his life out in Colorado. which is so weird. i dont kno how long ill be in the place im in now. will it b 4 more years?#or will it be only a few months? will i go back to school in the fall? its looking like yes bc i dont have a job lined up. but maybe ill#keep applying and dip out. let my dreams die in favor of balance and sanity. maybe some things arent meant to be.#its just so gutting. i was talking to my coworker this week. saying that im interested in so many things. i could have studied anything else#and traveled a completely different path. and a guy across the room was like: its never too late. but it feels like its too late. too late#to spend another impossible amount of money on getting a different degree. restarting on a second masters project. im almost 30.#im supposed to b saving money so that i can not work forever. but i cant do that if im just a student forever. so maybe i should just get a#job. god. but theres so much i still want to learn. and im in the perfect program for everything i thought i wanted. im in the perfect place#but everything's falling to pieces. whatever. i. just tired bc im on day 5 of work and have to go in for a day 6.#doing something i havent done before all day. but after than im going home for a week. so ill have lots to contemplate in the airport.#this is not how i thought things would turn out. but im glad im spending the summer working where i am. im learning lots on a human to human#level. and no one bleieves im 27 bc i apparently have a bby face lol. nope im 11 yrs older than u my 16yo coworker#unrelated

i know its normal to like. tell your parents that you're moving and got a new job but why do i feel like i have to ask permission to fucking. apply for jobs outside of michigan
#shay speaks#sry i am. thinking about how i felt like i was asking permission to accept the job in colorado that i took#in my hashtag rebellious era by just taking seasonal work wherever#and doing my own thing. im hoping with some distance between my parents and me i'll actually be able to find something#of myself. just like. my own person.#i dont want to be an extension of my parents!!!! i dont want to do what they want for me!!!#but i feel like whenever i want to do something big i have to ask permission#which is why i havent told them about any of my adventures this summer#where i went to various lighthouses and such. fr some reason i just. feel like i have to ask them for permission to do anything#even though i am 23.#saying that as if they didnt force me to go to church while i was living at home with them last winter#but at the same time i do not want a '''''normal''''' job where i'm working at an office from 9-5#i dont think i'd like that very much. as much as i love the people from the museum i interned at#i realized i did not want to do office work or paperwork or anything like that#i like interacting with people and the fast paced kitchen environments#sighs. i probably need therapy but will not be getting it any time soon
