something i genuinely adore about tadc is how painfully flawed everyone in the circus is. and not in a small way

everyone does SOMETHING that negatively impacts the others. but it makes the fact that you are supposed to sympathize with and really connect with them all the more potent. because its easy to want to put a bunch of characters in a bad situation together and to just have them all be nice to each other and everyone and never make mistakes because theres no reason to hurt each other, and most of them dont TRY to, but the way they cope is so, so realistic for each of their personalities, and it doesnt always mesh with the others, and sometimes it exceeds self destructive and Just Hurts Others, Too

they still generally care about each other and the mistakes they make and the ways they end up hurting each other dont lose their weight but like. it doesnt take away from their humanity and the fact that they are all trying so hard to manage in an awful situation

and the characters seem to have sooome sort of understanding of this too. not fully, because the characters dont tend to be 100% communicative, but when they hurt each other, it often makes EVERYONE uncomfortable. because these are the only people they have. these are their friends. and theyre all coping. but it doesnt change how much it affects them (best illustrated by ragathas lines at the start of ep 2 or gangles 'i love her, but after a while it gets kinda hard to tell how genuine shes actually being'). its not all like this, theres a good amnt of variety, but characters knowing this but not really knowing what to do about it is very painful in an effective way

(i think a subtle example of this is how zooble handles gangles situation in ep 4- they were so genuinely trying to help her because they care. but could tell as the day went on that oh, this is not working at all and its making things worse, and they leave gangle alone- something that very genuinely couldve been the moment she abstracted, because of the mask zooble gave her- and we dont get to have a super blatant explanation of zoobles thoughts on it, but they reach a fairly healthy conclusion about it that helps both of them, and i like that a lot, because on paper zooble could be placed at fault but the narrative doesnt dwell on it excessively, because thats not the point. i dont know if that tangent makes sense but i think about it sometimes. i think zooble wasnt 'to blame' but it was still a mistake, which is a hard balance to strike, and having them help at the end feels extremely effective at rounding it off!!!)

but like. in general its complicated balancing making characters in a bad situation act flawed because it can run the risk of seeming like the story is scolding them or blaming them for the situation theyre in, or like youre expected to not sympathize with them despite it (though the inverse also has complications- if characters in a bad situation never mess up, it feels unrealistic and hard to relate to, and can imply that their innocence is why whats happening to them is bad at all), but the show handles it so well

even the characters who are genuinely trying all try in different ways- some of them have similar outlooks or attitudes towards these thing but theres vital differences for ALL of them- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. in fact some of the more painful mistakes characters have made in the show have come from them so genuinely trying (like the thing i mentioned w zooble, or basically Everything Ragatha Does, or pomnis first attempt at helping gangle, etc), which hits harder than if every mistake characters made had wholly selfish and cruel goals.

i mean, there is a selfishness to many of the characters' actions but imo not in a way thats not warranted. because all of them are in a horrible setting. its uncomfortable to watch characters be selfish. but it is a natural instinct to survive. its not the foundation of most of their actions, but when it is, its uncomfortable but hard to completely disparage them for in a way that makes you feel kinda conflicted

and like. it hurts to be doing your best and for that to make things worse, but its what happens often in the show. because no one in a bad situation is gonna handle it well. by the very nature of trying to survive something is gonna give, but it makes the themes of the show so much more powerful. that making sure the people around you dont feel unloved, cherishing them and finding meaning with others is no less important just because everyone is fucking up. it complicates things, for sure, but it doesnt make those characters exempt fromt this. theres a reason pomni tells gummigoo that she doesnt want "anyone" to feel like theyre nothing, and that kinger doesnt add ANY quallifiers to making sure people feel wanted and loved (not that i think either of them were thinking SUPER super hard, but it conveys smth from the perspective of the narrative

it gets complicated when you add in jax for sure, since i think on the surface he IS the exception to this concept- none of the characters like him, including pomni or kinger. but i think this is something thats gonna be examined further down the line, bc hes the main complicating factor in this reading of the show, but i feel like thats on purpose. hes universally disliked (and so is caine, in a different way) and his actions arent mistakes. they are him coping. the show has made it clear that he can be a complex person AND also a piece of shit. his actions dont detract from the fact that hes a person and the show reminds us of this. so it makes things so messy, but im genuinely super excited to see how the show examines that. where his character goes is, imo, going to be a massive piece of how this show fleshes out this concept

Headcanons I've been cooking;

-the paradise theater doing a mystery science theater 3000 bit most days (I'm like 90% sure that its basically the equivalent in their multiverse anyway, oops)

-frank and clementine still tries to keep contact and make visits if even possible anymore. June likes to receive letters and postcards as a loose penpal relationship as proof of their "mad lib situation"

-I feel robbed that June and Ava didn't interact much, they'd have so much fun and nobody would be able to handle these bar buds. Never mind theres probably a reason why these two aren't allowed in a bar together, but I love their raw chaos and hijinks would definitely go on

-Gloria makes the storage closet her room at first but when Caspar gets back, he gives her the main office since she's da b0ss now, she still spends a lot of time camping with her bts wolves making stew for them, its her own therapy

-Leif putting together a game console for the gang when theyre bored, Caspar is the best at retro games surprisingly aside from the fact hes been asking for a pinball machine forever, everyone cracks old man jokes. Mostly David and Ava, his biggest hecklers <3

-eventually they begin to cultivate a small arcade, leif fixes up a few machines for the diner (its free) kids across the cosmos go 'you mean you have to play the game with your hands?? Its like a baby's toy :/" caspar is flabbergasted, Leif just shrugs and goes "i warned you bro" and does more Leif shit

-David plays cod on their designated staff console in the office space in their down time between shifts. Feet kicked up and the lazy fan blowing, do you see my vision? this is the most important highlight so far

-David used to stream sometimes on earth in LA for funsies now and then during lockdown when he wasnt up for running out at night vandalizing the blank canvas known as the streets

-he still talks to his mom and plays catch up even from space despite the time it takes to send messages. David continues to find her drunk calls entertaining (canon anyway) Caspar doesn't really drink alcohol and is worried about the loss of control, I think hes just anxious and insecure about it.

*I don't really think caspar was much of a dick when he drank raising david, he probably was a rambling annoying dad with a shitty attitude that was hard to tolerate. like, okay, old man, we get it the world sucksss stop being so sad and let's play legos and not roleplay the state of the economic decline about it (shh, I'm not projecting gay son and drunk well meaning dad dynamics)

-Ava peer pressures Caspar *only* for celebrations anyway

-micheladas for everyone the next day, some sweet hair of the dog when the various drank theyre able to get their hands on is too much to cope with the next day if they still even have moonshine to spare left

like. sometimes i think abt how Francine probably isnt gonna do well once all her kids have moved out of the house. She enjoys people being around. Even though none of them have moved far, its still hard for her to cope with. TBH even Stan is having trouble with it. He thought it'd be great- him and his hot wife have the house all to themselves now (well. Roger and Rogu are there too. But they're not people.) but he finds himself finding the dinner table very empty with just them </3 I think they kind of fall into a depression. Until everyone pitches in to get them a long cruise vacation so they can redisover who they are, what they want, etc. and it helps a lot.

you ever wonder if the bits of alien dna still left in jeff have rendered him functionally immortal. how fucked up would that be. i feel like itd be something he discovers but keeps to himself. his first priority always is hayley (and their kids once they have them). to be fair, he has no idea if this applies to their kids too ??? like it might. I hc that the CIA mind swap experiments cause much, much longer lifespans than normal. This actually makes Rick and Klaus so happy bcuz theyll get to spend so much time together. Since they're not immortal immortal like anyone w alien dna, things liek accidents can kill them. So theyre like "oh we got the BEST kind of immortality- we get to live as long as we want and then decide when we want out." So not everyones sad.

Steve and his freinds are never officially in a polycule but like.......they basically are. Steve and Snot are an official couple, but they cannot see their lives without toshi and barry too. they also co-parent like cats do. the kids in the house (which is Huge. toshi got it as a graduation gift. hideki may fuck people over for a living but he makes money.) are Steve and Snot's adopted kid, and then Barrys kid (Its technically his younger sibling. Absolute surprise pregnancy that his parents were not prepared for and didnt' really like...want. So hes like hey, I always wanted to be a dad. Guess im a dad now and this is my kid. Cool.). The kids genuinely just grow up thinking all four of the guys are with each other and just refer to them all as dads.

Snot is the one who being a dad means the most to I think. He vows to be the best dad ever. So good of a dad it makes up for his dead dad. Steve loves the determination and vows the same. Which leads to the other two as well. These kids quite possibly have the best 4 dads possible.

1. i think my favorite oc to draw changes every now & again, right now its lenarr ÷) i think for the Longest time it was tix but ive been having weird issues drawing him lately for some reason

2. lenarr is Also my favorite design ive ever made….indie is probably my 2nd best. also i know lenarrs design is good bc in like the 8-9yrs ive had him his design has changed exactly Once and it was pretty minor

3. THIS ONES RLLY FUN…theres a couple i wish were real SO BAD. i think my personal favorite episode is either “the curious case of the computer caper” (funny detective cliche episode) OR “carpe diem” (silly bodyswap cliche episode). for actually plot relevant ones i think “piranha (pt 1&2)” is my favorite its pretty good. s2 in general is some of my best work in my personal opinion.. ALSO. “yours mine & mine” is pretty good too its Definitely important especially regarding tixs character + how he thinks. “the letter” is also one i do think abt a decent amount bc i lovie my cutiepoo boyfailure LOL

4. I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP at least plotwise is probably lenarr & tix. its REALLY complex especially in s4. its like. it starts out as kind of like a reluctant mentorship but as the story progresses & they both get to know each other better the relationship gets much more involved and way closer, almost to the point that tix almost cares for lenarr like a “son(??)” even if he's too proud to admit it. ofc this changes temporarily when lenarr realizes tixs Actual motives obviously he feels EXTREMELY betrayed & has to work up to trusting him again. also tix & zachs relationship even before theyre dating is really good…

5. for sibling dynamics i think the most interesting one is indie & her brother…its really complicated especially on indies end bc as much as she Wants to be close with her brother again she cant really forgive him for leaving (this wasnt really anyones fault, it was a really hard situation but indie copes with it by just blaming pèpîne). i think my favorite sibling/family dynamic is either tix & daffy (i have a post somewhere explaining why way more in depth here) or griff and his sisters (i didnt put them on the chart bc i just ran out of room LOL, also theyre only in 2 or 3 episodes). i think lenarr & ruben or tix & daffy are definitely the most important plotwise tho

6. DAFFY IS AWESOME i didnt make her my bff did i think in like 2020 or 2021?? i just like tweaked it a bit to match the artstyle. so huge props to him for the idea & the original design (i have pics of his 1st concepts of her ill post them on here 4 u), shes basically the fucking cornerstone of s5…basically shes hydro & merediths daughter & tixs half-sister. tix does NOT like her at first, its basically the same as how a jealous 7 y/o only child feels when they get a new sibling. although he has his reasons to think that, thats explained in the post i linked. on her dads side she has a close like pseudo-familial relationship with his henchmen, and its similar on her moms side too w/ the castle staff but probably to a lesser extent since its a more “professional” environment. shes very sweet & is basically a 4ft tall puppydoggie..also she & tiabi have a more sibling-like relationship despite daffy technically being tiabis aunt. also i think shed look more similar to her mumma when she grows up…

"it's like expanded universe lore to me" is such high praise—thats really how i imagine lamias story! like the eventual fic is gonna be as canon-compliant as possible, at least until the end of the story in 3/ReMind—"this is what was happening just off camera left during the Kingdom Hearts™ series" sorta vibes. also similar in that the fic is definitely darker and more mature than the main KH games, but—hopefully—still feels like it could plausibly take place in the KH universe. anyway!

for Lamia, Xigbar is one of the few people he can safely unmask around. Lamia is autistic and has to put a concerted effort into not coming across as rude or mean to most people, but if he fucks up around Xigbar, Xigbar's just like "lmao tell me how you really feel" and doesnt take it personally. Xigbar is a confrontational asshole who breaks social rules on purpose, and Lamia finds him refreshing and easier to deal with than most people, even in the early stages of them knowing each other when their dynamic is still pretty adversarial.

as they get closer, Lamia finds that Xigbar is one of the few people who don't treat him with either revulsion or pity. like, Lamia's kind of off-putting to most people—partly because of the autism rudeness and general awkwardness, and partly because many people can sense the darkness in his heart and are unsettled by it, whether or not they know it's because of a curse and outside his control. even his own friends kinda treat him like a sick stray cat that they need to take care of or a project person they need to Fix. but Xigbar treats Lamia like a whole person, and doesn't coddle or belittle him. Lamia can trust Xigbar to not to try to override his agency or boundaries to help him—not something he can say about everyone!

and Xigbar sees Lamia as...a vision of goodness he can actually respect and understand. Xigbar recognizes that he and Lamia are very similar—they're both pragmatic, cynical, even at times ruthless; theyre not bright-eyed idealists, theyre not bleeding heart altruists. they're also both very traumatized lmao. Xigbar has been so worn down by his grand role that his personhood is down to emergency power, life support systems only—he cannot imagine living long after his mission is done, and fuck everything else besides. he kind of expects Lamia to be the same way, after all the shit they've been through. but somehow, Lamia still clings to some hope for the future in a shaking, white-knuckled fist. they have an understandable misanthropic streak, but they still try their best to treat people well, and still feel a basic moral imperative to care for and protect people.

Xigbar knows he cant write it off as just a cope or naivete. he has to recognize it as strength. it's a kind of strength he had, once—or at least a kind of strength he once tried to attain.

also like they each think the other is a smokeshow lmao. theyre really attracted to each other on a physical and personal level. the life affirming power of He Get My Penits Hord cannot be denied

A few days ago you posted about how you grew up surrounded by conservatives, but you yourself never agreed with them. As someone who also grew up surrounded by conservatives and never agreed with them, I think, at least for me, it was that a lot of the conservatives I was surrounded by were the "this is how its Meant to be and you Dont question it" type [as opposed to the conservatives that try to look smart] and I was already prone to questioning basically everything due to being autistic [not that other people don't question things] and I already thought stuff about the very basics of social interaction was absurd and not worth paying attention to so to make the jump to political and religious thought didn't seem like a big deal. I also imagine I got lucky going online and finding mostly progressive people giving actual explanations for their thought processes, because I think there is a chance I would have bought some of the fancier conservative language when I was younger.

All that said I think part of it too is that when you're a real little kid you're [usually] taught not to be mean to people, even though you'll see the adults telling you this be very much mean to people, and most kids notice and figure out who theyre allowed or supposed to be mean to, but I think that just never happened to me. I just kept going "I thought we weren't supposed to be mean?"

I agreed with them on some specific things for a time (like the stuff about gangs, though that was actually reasonably mainstream back there because of how many people have been hurt by them), and they did have some topics where they were reasonably intelligent, but I think in terms of critical thinking and curiosity I went far beyond them at a young age.

I have very limited memories of this, but supposedly I used to ask about what everything was and how everything worked as soon as I could speak. My parents used to indulge these questions at the time, at least where they pertained to stuff they didn't have strong political opinions about, like how movie special effects work or what a femur is.

But as I grew older and started grilling them on other kinds of topics they also retreated to non-answers like "because I said so" and generally trying to shame questioning or criticism, which obviously was not a satisfying answer to me when I actually wanted to know things.

As in your case, this wasn't limited to topics like politics either but also social norms. For example, I always had an aversion to being touched without permission and disliked the expectation to kiss people on the cheek as a greeting, and there never seemed to be a good reason to do it so I just didn't and if someone didn't like it that's not my problem.

That kind of exemplifies my approach to a lot of social norms (including gender norms). If I don't get a solid case for why they're useful then in the best case scenario their use was just to placate neurotypicals, and even that was generally not worth it, especially when I was depressed and didn't need anything from them.

I eventually did get exposed to "fancier conservative language" in the form of christian apologetics, but even then that kind of thing just sounds like cope when you don't already have any inclination towards christianity. The arguments were weak and scientifically illiterate. They can't even cover all the holes the problem of evil alone creates for their worldview.

I think my parents did something very different about the "don't be mean" thing. They never actually emphasized not being "mean" very much (but obviously did expect decorum and obedience towards authority). Instead they wanted me to pretty much do toxic positivity. Never complain, never be critical, preferable to stay quiet rather than voice anything negative, always be pleasant to others. As you can probably tell they didn't get anywhere with that either.

Both of my parents used to talk about how the Black Shadow (death squad) must return to cleanse the land of bad people, about how you must completely kill and destroy your enemies and everyone connected to them without mercy, and so on. My father used to think human rights activists were the enemies of justice and must be killed too for defending the rights of rapists and murderers. They themselves were beyond "mean", so their argument was more that they had a "good" justification for it.

echo is such a good character. theoretically at least. actually the definition of wasted potential hes the most interesting member of cf99 and hes barely in the show im sobbing.

i wish there was actual buildup to echo leaving or something showing his dissatisfaction with being in the batch. like something about having to kill his brothers, or even with the whole being sold as a droid thing which i know its a haha funny bit but that shit was actually so fucked up ???? we dont talk about that one enough that was so insane of hunter 😭😭 if u think abt his backstory then it makes more sense but theres barely anything in his behavior that suggests conflict with his own goals and the interests of his team by the time he leaves. ig its also one of the issues is that the show doesnt have enough time. maybe echo should have left later on in the show or something but i can also think of some midder episodes that are just hunter and omega but again that could have been replaced to give this guy or wrecker some actual characterization. no shade to them ( kinda bc most of the best episodes are the ones where theyre not there) but save some for the rest of us bc they dont need half the show do they

also istg they (writers and the batch ) forgot echo used to be a "reg" i feel like its so strange for the batch to be all pissy abt reg clones and have a weird superiority complex early on in the show when like. echo is there he was once one of them and now hes not. theres so much the writers could have done to tackle echos feelings abt being othered by the reg clones and inadvertently ostracized by his team. theres so much he probably sees different from thebatch bc of their separate upbringings where echo was part of a collective and the batch were singled out as individuals. does he view killing other clones in a different light bc he was also the type to follow orders blindly once??? how does he feel abt the chips as a pow that spent around a year unable to control his thoughts, having his mind stolen from him??

something i wanted for his character was for him to have a connection pre-citadel that he loses during his time being frozen bc he would have to cope with that loss and adapt to the batch at the same time. yes this is another excuse for me to talk abt fives but who else. echo doesnt talk to anyone except him in basically every scene b4 the citadel. echo feeling messed up abt it bc just all of a sudden his world has been turned upside down and all he can do is move on. thats absolutely terrifying to think about bc the war has taken away most of everyone hes ever known. there was no goodbye, nothing for him, they were just here one moment and gone the next for him. too bad we dont get to see any of it lmaoooo

yes! they have the dynamic ivyfern were supposed to have. since pere is their only kit, they are able to pour a lot of their time into making sure she grows to be a well adjusted cat. being mentors to her friends, it makes them “your friends cool parents”.

What is Shadowberry like as a mentor?

shadowberry…tries her hardest. shes loud and friendly and boisterous, but shes pretty young and nowhere near as experienced as sunheart was. shes excellent with peregrinepaw emotionally though, especially in helping her cope with grief. ravenstripe, shadowberrys mate, serves as an unofficial second mentor since she is much more capable as a teacher.

How was Sunheart as a mentor?

sunheart as a patient, kind cat and the ideal mentor. she died saving peregrinepaw from a dog. she was by far the most approachable of her sisters, and worked hard to make sure peregrinepaw could defend herself as well as hunt.

Why is Peregrinepaw a Hunter?

the hunters also cook the food, and peregrinepaw loves cooking (and eating). she loves to make jerky especially.

apprentices spend the first half of their apprenticeship in general education, rotating through one mentor from each path while also being taught basic skills. after this, they choose the path they liked best or were most suited to and begin more intensive and specified training, now with a set mentor. apprentices cannot perform their tasks alone until they reach the halfway point of this portion.

all apprentices know how to hunt, fight, and do basic cooking, but the more general paths (warrior, hunter) teach specific and in depth aspects. apprentices often carve out their own niche in these paths, like peregrinepaw spending much of her time smoking meats to make jerky.

starseers and medics, instead, choose their path as soon as they become apprentices. this is due to the higher risk of their jobs.

essentially, as it is now, the concept at its core is "what if there was a really fucked up lcorp branch in which things just went Comically sideways." aka local lcorp facility does such a shit job trying to get itself together that it Completely misses the fact that its entire wing exploded overnight. And Also People Are Turning Into Creatures Now. fucked up little petri dish of a facility.

lark is theeeeee third? character? ive made for their little group. and ive spoken about him exactly Once. in the quiz, yeah; that was the only time. but hes been here the whole time basically. hes intended to be the first 'pov' of the entire narrative thread, some newbie whos trying his damn best. aaaand hes also the first one to die! yippy 🎉

the actual context of where he comes from is still undefined (ithink i was considering making him an Index guy way back then?) but the main pin in his character is the unshakable belief that something specifically is Out To Get You. hes hard to describe. because 'paranoia' is the easiest description, but thats not quite It. invisible lines you cant (and shouldnt) cross; the fear of perception crossed with the fear of solitude, because if someone isnt watching and directing you then something Will go catastrophically wrong. teeth pointed inward, an "i need to do this Myself because someone else will get it wrong, will mess it up." like he has something to prove. Just Do It Right.

and on the one hand, its mostly something he developed in order to cope with pressure he cannot change. bbbbbut on the other hand, he happened to be dropped into a situation in which 'someone is out to get You Specifically in an act of uncaring cruelty' is 100% true and real and he cant really do anything about it. and nobody really believes him. Because Nobody Knows Yet. which means he gets astronomically worse.

his corrosion stems from the snap decision that he doesnt just want to sit around and fawn and grovel for someone- something- that is just going to kill him anyway. if they want something to watch-- some big Show, some Game-- he was going to give it to them. to inflict as much carnage as was saddled onto Him. as Much collateral as physically possible. he'd pull this entire place down with him if he had to. he doesnt get the chance to, of course, but its the thought that counts little buddy.

Amapola likes nature and gambling except more and is more okay with murder than usual. Bodoque is slightly more normal. Slightly. More focused on nature environmentalism but still struggles with being competitive with gambling. Will kill people that aren't environmentally friendly. Amapola would host the Nota verde this time. She and juanin are wlw/mlm solidarity/hostility. Theyre friends and work together but Amapola gets sick of his shit sometimes. She smokes too and is miserable like bodoque. More jaded too. Juanin is popular and rich and has gained more confidence than his regular self. Og juanin has had mean moments but he was too unconfident to have more of them. This juanin is more comfortable being mean/passive aggressive bc he can get away with it. He prides himself in being cute and his appearance. He gets away with being mean bc he's a cutie. Tulio is in og Juanin's role. He's fucking tired and does everything. He's still tulio so he'll half ass shit if he can. He's not as confident as his og self. He copes with a big ego except its more covert. More self conscious and wishes to be the star of the show. He gets annoyed with juanin but still has a toxic friendship with him + a suck up. Patana is more quieter like Mario Hugo, still does her work well and hosts his segment instead. Cares about birds a lot and shouts them out, they also have silly names. She is Tulio's long lost niece and has Mario Hugo's backstory. Birds can be seen on her often. She has them trained too. Mario Hugo is more confident and tries his best in his work. Good at interviews and very kind. Resident sweet guy. Tries his best to keep things on track but isn't taken seriously, especially as a small guy. Underestimated even though he's very capable. Has his own weirdos club. I think it'd be nice if he was also into dolls like og Patana, just more secretive about it. Can't think of more but I'll probably draw more of this and expand on it

well firstly, would you (or me) have ever been interested in this stuff if it didn’t promise some sort of 3D changes? probably not, idk about you but I came to the community bc of an sp i wanted, which obviously has a lot to do with the 3D. the reason why this goal isnt exactly the best is because NOW that we have all this knowledge and understanding, we NOW know the 3D isnt our goal because it cannot fulfill us. we find this stuff when we are hurt, confused, desperate etc and once were out of that we realize there is a lot more than just “getting” something in the physical. also, most content out there (99%+) focuses on 3D materialization because MOST people teaching it unfortunately do not understand the law at its core, or they are coaches/businesses that need to make a living by attracting desperate people with claims like DO THIS TO GET HIM BACK! and other stuff. that is why you see most content centering around that bc it is how you pique peoples interest lol.
