brewing a mihawk/shanks/buggy fic idea in my mind where theyre stupidly inlove w each other but theyre too dumb to open to each other on how insecure they feel.

Buggy has inferiority complex and thinks hes just there in the relationship as a side piece. He thinks someday Shanks and Mihawk will realize they’re better off w/o him. They’re two of the most powerful men in the seas, incredibly handsome too, and Buggy’s just. Buggy. Weak and cowardly, weird and ugly. So whenever he sees Shanks and Mihawk particularly spending more time together, he mentally prepares himself for the day they leave him (he plans to leave out of the relationship first so it will hurt less).

Buggy of course will never admit his insecurities, and he fears if he opens the topic, the two will break up with him much earlier. So he just tries to make the most out of their relationship while it lasts and anxiously wait for the inevitable ending.

Mihawk, on the other hand, feels out of place in the relationship bc Shanks and Buggy shared a much deeper and stronger bond way back in their childhood that his history with both men could never compare. He thinks his aloof and introverted personality will someday bore them, that they will see there is not much to Mihawk than they first thought. Sometimes he overthinks if Shanks only loves him bc he was the nearest person to have filled in Buggy’s place in his heart after the two separated, or if Buggy is even interested in him, who’s a complete polar opposite to his personality. Moreover, his guilt over beating up Buggy at the start of the Cross Guild washes over him every now and then, and he thinks it will become a factor someday when the two decide to break up with him.

Mihawk doesn’t open up these thoughts bc he doesn’t think they’re worth opening up. He’s a lonewolf all his life, but he couldn’t get used to the disconnection he feels despite having two partners.

Shanks has abandonment issues fr. He’s afraid that all those decades spent apart from Buggy has estranged their relationship forever. He’s scared of a future where the two will break up with him - that Buggy will abandon him again, having found a perfect partner (Mihawk) who he knows will treat him better than Shanks ever did and could ever do. He worries about being the most mentally unstable out of them all, that his depressive alcoholic episodes and loudness will turn off Mihawk for good, or that he’ll unknowingly do something that will cause a second downfall in his relationship with Buggy again.

Shanks will never open up about his insecurities bc he thinks it will sour the happiness they currently have in the relationship. He’d rather shoulder everything and keep up a facade than have the two abandon him.

Even though they’re happy to be together officially and they love each other, there is still some tension due to them not very good at opening up. Buggy’s too into denial and evades sensitive topics at all costs, Mihawk is too private and socially inept, Shanks is the type to suppress and put up a facade for the sake of keeping peace in their relationship.

In short, theyre a fuckibng mess

honestly the best advice i can give you is to just search unstable universe and click on any of the playlists (i recommend diya's since it tends to be the most up-to-date one), if you wanna watch just one pov then feel free to do so but be warned youd be missing a part of the experience by doing so mainly through missing context/part of the story for certain scenes (although tbf that pretty much goes for any lets play but if you dont mind that aspect then go right ahead)

a few warnings before you get started tho:

its a huge time investestment, all but the first 4 episodes are more than 3 hours long with most of them either halfway through or nearing 4 hours

some vids are uploaded later than they actually take place on the timeline, i have a guide here if you wanna know at least from what i can tell the actual order is

theres a few supplementary materials (can be found in the extras part of the sheet i linked, not complete yet cause theres some vids i havent linked yet and im still on the lookout for more since some vids get added retroactively in addition to the ones uploaded explicitly for uu), you dont need to watch them to enjoy the story but theyre a cool bonus

if you wanna watch only one pov heres a guide on each of the povs specialties before doing so

general:

they all shift in style as the eps go on, nothing jarring but if you dont like more scripted storylines you may find the later eps a bit lacking

plot themes get used and reused a lot, for example spoke often goes on quests to destroy important landmarks, parrot often goes on scavenger hunts/get imprisoned/some combination of the two, and wemmbu often does things related to civilizations/kingdoms/factions

certain editing styles also get copied from each other, parrot and wemmbu in particular like to do this with each other

themes and styles can also switch around sometimes which can affect future eps on some level

certain exploits and mechanics dont work as intended so dont bother replicating how certain mechanics work according to actual mc cause chances are youll be disappointed by the results (unless youre into that sorta thing i suppose lol)

the main povs tend to stick to the same set of ppl, most likely due to scheduling reasons, so dont expect a whole lot of crossover casting (tho obv there would still be some esp if theyve got a pre-established role already)

spoke:

redacts some important events from his eps but may recount them later on depending on how the story plays out tho not in detail

not a lot of pvp in his pov and when there is chances are hes trying to run away or someone else is handling it (mainly mapicc)

doesnt upload nearly as consistently as the other two, consequently his shift in style is more obvious comparatively but so is his character development

thematically his eps tend to be about personal growth of some kind

lorewise his eps tend to focus more on server meta, for example his pov is the only one where there is clear confirmation of the server being unstable codewise, his pov is the only one where just how large of a problem duping on the server is can actually be seen and felt, and so far his pov is the only one that shows who ash is and what his goals are. basically if spoke introduces some kind of threat in his ep, chances are it'll be a threat to the server meta and youd have to think of the bigger picture in order to grasp how dangerous they actually are

his pov is also the only one you get the full picture of what a soggy little rat he actually is since in both parrot and wemmbus povs spoke is seen as a serverwide threat, directly for parrot and theoretically for wemmbu

if you like ls s4 zam and/or ls s2 spoke then youll most likely like him as well lol

has a small reoccuring cast and tends to stick to one person when going on quests while also taking note of another one

you will feel the ghost of jamatoP haunting this kid wherever he goes even if he never directly references him

parrot:

tends to get dragged along plot points, not in the sense that he doesnt have agency cause he very much does but more like he takes it upon himself to clean up other ppls messes if that makes sense

tries not to get into pvp but he still does get into them quite often, usually tries to run away but when he doesnt/cant he doesnt really have the best fighting techniques

his character development tends toward introspection which leads to a lot of "quiet" and assumptive character development, you gotta use a lot of psychological analysis when watching a parrot episode basically

thematically his eps tend to be about the willingness to get in danger in pursuit of something (whether it be for something greater, knowledge, or the safety of the other players on the server whether it be their life or memories) vs the predictable and stagnant comfort of safety

lorewise the threats he faces are ones that focuses on the actual players themselves, if one is introduced on his episode then chances are that they specifically target and affect players. an interesting example of this is zam, seen as a threat but never actually treated like an actual problem to be solved unlike the other threats he faces and it just so happens that zam is in a really interesting place antagonism-wise when it comes to wemmbu but is otherwise not a huge threat to unaffiliated players not even parrot who he apparently has beef with

has a large reoccuring cast who come in and out of his life, each of whom are important the same way cogs are important to a machine (applies to parrot himself as well). wifies sticks by him no matter what tho

wemmbu:

literally only one episode of his so far does not heavily feature or center around zam and its the one that takes place before they meet, if you do not like seeing/hearing about zam every 10 minutes or so do not watch wemmbus eps or you Will get pissed off

gets into fights quite often and is the best at pvp among the three main povs but isnt the best in terms of the server at large (hes somewhere more along the lines of average)

his character development is. rocky. and cyclical. be prepared to see him spiral and get better and spiral again over and over again basically lol

thematically his eps tend to be about princezam. i wish i was joking. but besides that, theyre also about retaliatory safety, morality, and sacrificing everything just to try and accomplish a singular goal

lorewise he causes a lot of ripple effects that affect the other two povs to a level that neither of them have ever affected him like for example him terrorizing spoke and parrot is what drove them to their current paths (anti-exploit exploiter for spoke and player protector for parrot)

has. A reoccuring cast. most of them are enemies and/or dont matter to him a whole lot personally tho... that doesnt mean he doesnt have friendly relations or allies of any kind, just that the only two you Really need to take note of are eggchan and princezam

he would never ban zam because he is here for him, not only as an ally but as an enemy too because protagonist needs more than just a friend and story sometimes need heroes, but sometimes it needs villains and hes ready to execute both roles in some way thinking his actions even horrible ones are not making him a villain outside of the just current narrative since hes doing it not (only) for himself. protagonist, blessed one, needs a scene to perform, and he cant do it if all scenery is broken and scattered, the actors are talking complete nonsense and ignoring each other, and there is a hole in the middle of the stage. until he can but he dont want him to. he always need to have a duo, a partner, and he had enough of them, and he loves all of them and they never actually stops being deeply interconnected with him but zam gets kinda special treatment. mapicc never actually stops wanting to be his closest teammate. even when kills him, even when tortures him, even when betrays (not really) him because nothing of it reject his deepest devotion flowing in his blood and fused into his bones along with bloodlust because even the worst of the sins is not enough to let him go. theyre just too different in the unstable and horrific world noone actually fully understands despite matching on so many levels and its never actually truly fine. this is a bowl into which rainwater flows slowly but surely every day, until the surface tension ceases to be enough and it begins to flow down. and blows up somewhere in the process. they both have their own lives but their lifesteal would be so much duller in the end because despire having really cool friends and allies they would be alone in the end. both of their stories requires both of them to work. the only question is, is it a cycle or a spiral?

i've seen discussions about purebloods/halfbloods/muggleborns and what constitutes as one, altho reading through the books it's all so clear to me: it's all just BS

this'll be half serious and half delulu as usual but there's always curiosity on how voldemort managed to have the pureblood's support, and that maybe the DEs just don't know his background. but i tend to disagree. something as tightknit as pureblood circles makes it impossible for voldemort to not be known, not when he's been using the voldemort name since hogwarts years. it would've spread to the families

but pureblood circles tend to "accept" you if you're a halfblood and act like them. this is most seen with how snape acts and speaks in comparison to his childhood years, where the wannabe DEs in slytherin accept snape so long as he does the same thing as them, like calling other students mudbloods. and then they just kinda avoid mentioning your blood, though in varying degrees depending on the family

we also know that the malfoys try to marry halfbloods here and there in order to not be like the blacks, who truly try to uphold the blood purity. i will infer that most pureblood families do the same thing as the malfoys, as the blacks are already on the extreme side of the example

tom, by 5th year, has proven himself to be a halfblood as well as carry himself in the same manner as the purebloods, so he does get accepted(altho i believe that families like malfoy and black were still wary of his origin so voldemort was only able to recruit their children, who are much more impressionable to him)

that's the crux of being a pureblood: it doesn't matter, the established families are the ones who makes up the rules. that's why potters aren't even part of the sacred 28, it's whatever these families consider as purebloods that are purebloods

that's also why the gaunts are basically a laughing stock atp, even though out of all them they're the ones who really followed on keeping their bloodline "pure". that's why weasleys are now called "blood traitors", who some even consider is just as bad as muggleborns. that's why you have people like umbridge trying to integrate herself as a pureblood. it's to display superiority. literal echo chambers jacking each other off and making themselves believe they're important by having the label 'purebloods', while the rest are just halfbloods or muggleborns etc.

questions like "would harry's children be considered halfblood" would always be answered with 'theyre still halfbloods' because it doesn't matter if you have or don't have muggle blood, what matters is how they view you. potters didn't even make the sacred 28 list not because of henry potter, but because nott thought potter is a common muggle surname and that they might be tainted fmekmgmdg

It should go without saying that none of these are actually inherent to their bloodcastes and are at best complete and arbitrary fabrications, and at worst founded on misleading data and maliciously ignorant interpolations of the already misleading data.

Rustbloods' naturally shorter lives are far exaggerated due to almost universally getting inferior medical treatment, if any at all, working the hardest jobs, and getting the least compensation. Their trend towards being less educated is a result of their mistreatment, and then their lower education is used to justify the continued mistreatment.

Bronzebloods are about the same, because of their just slightly more favorable treatment compared to Rust, theyre also subject to all of those problems, their unique propagandized issue of drug problems is in reality both overblown and more a repercussion of their place in society. they more or less inhabit an economic hotspot where their prospects are so miserable that they have no hopeful future, but they aren't so under the thumb as to be consistently forced to focus on the uber-short term with no opportunity for recreation. because of all of this there is a real and significant trend towards addiction that has subsequently been exaggerated and integrated into the propaganda of their bloodcaste. the only thing actually inherent to their caste that relates to their stereotyping is the animal communion psionics, which had an outsized representation in bronze communities even before troll eugenic programs focused on delineation isolation and segregation of psionic traits in castes.

Goldbloods are a semi-protected caste due to how critically important their exploitation is to the empire. There are ships that don't have helms, but they're only used in-system, and they're not preferred. they're like crossing the Atlantic, you can do it in a plane or a boat. their extreme psionics are also the result of a eugenics program, in troll genetics most things are, trolls didn't originally have psionic sub-demographics that were truly isolated to a single caste, but its really a different thing entirely for the Goldbloods. It was an effort comparable to breeding dogs for increased maximum land speed. Goldbloods, because of this, have an outsized representation of physical health issues and, of course, of mental illnesses, particularly mood swings, anxiety, and psychotic disorders, and finally, something not dissimilar to human adhd &/or autism. Many of these problems are comorbid with psionics, but its rare to find a goldblood who doesn't suffer from a single one of them. Its something quite similar to the other heavily troll-modified bloodcaste, Ceruleans... Though Ceruleans get far more special care for their unique demogeaphical risks, to the point where its basically a foregone conclusion. Something a Goldblood is ridiculed for is something a Cerulean might not even realize they also do|have|need, just because the zeitgeistic atmosphere around it is so different.

Limebloods... they are a storybook of opression. The rates of education among limebloods are some of the lowest, take out hiveschooling and they Are the lowest. They're a protected caste— universally culled— Their stereotype is of being stupid. Tell me if you think its genetic or not. Emotional intelligence is just about the only form of intelligence that is given any sort of means for them to reach. Non-Psionic Limebloods have no special emotional insight, and those who are psionic, arent suddenly Gondi just cause they have to sift through the emotions of everyone in the room AND their own and then figure out which are which. Their psionics, morso than most other psionics, are totally overwhelming. The reasons that emotional intelligence is more common in those who are psionic is survivorship bias. There is actually a higher rate of mutation in Limebloods... Now that the Lime Mothergrub Program is in full effect. That stereotype— the notion that limebloods are exceptionally unstable, was part of the long term smear campaign enacted by the Empire's control initiative which in part resulted in the LMP. Lime hysterics, Lime mutagenics, Lime retardation, undercut Lime voices and supress new ones. Convince the culture that Limes need intervention. Spin it benevolent and you'll have them under your scalpal in sweeps. You'll get your LMP. The LMP which is a program to systemically remove Limeblood genetics from the pool by only turning in Lime bonded material to one Mothergrub and none other. This has FUCKED the genetics of Every troll which that MG has spawned. Its not as obvious for some, but its the reason there are trolls like Root and Star, if you remember those two. Even beyond all of that, as a lowblood protected caste, the world is made to be scary to them. Because they are coddled and constrained their whole lives, almost universally, they are never told how to function. Not by default. Not how other castes are. Of course they need special help, all castes need special help with caste specific problems, but if you want to minimize special help, maybe raise them like normal fucking trolls. 8. How does your Dark Urge feel about the wilderness?

I think his feelings about the wilderness surprise him, because hes actually really fond of it. He enjoys the simple and consistent behavior of animals, even if he has to kill them, and he really deeply enjoys the distance from people. Hes also really fond of natural water sources, a remnant of growing up next to the Chionthar, which was one of the only places in the city where the Urge wasnt quite so loud. He doesnt quite realize how much he enjoys the wilds until he gets back to Baldur's Gate and fucking hates it lmao

20. Is your Dark Urge open about their Urge or do they try to hide it? Why?

Hes SOOO open about it to a RIDICULOUS degree. Pre tadpole he identified completely with the Urge so anyone who had the privellege of knowing him As He Is (and not when he was trying to stealth through the city) would know who and what exactly theyre dealing with. Post Tadpole, he feels he has to rely heavily on this group of strangers for his own safety and sanity, and tries to be as open and forthcoming as possible about the Urges, first because it scares him and he wants help, and then when he gives up on the idea of receiving help as a matter of responsibility. He owes it to them to tell them when he might fly off the handle in case they have to put him down for everyones collective safety. He doesnt even try to hide Alfira's murder, and its everyones reaction to that event that solidifies his decision to both tell everyone whenever the Urges risk them (his own mental health is an acceptable sacrifice), and his decision to handle them almost entirely by himself

22. What first impression does your Dark Urge give off to strangers?

It depends on how much effort hes putting into "passing" as it is. Act 1 is when hes at his most offputting, a twitchy mess poorly concealing the burning desire to kill, and most peoples first impression is that theyre interacting with someone very deeply sick. By the time Dirge is leaving the Grove behind, hes stabilized enough to no longer come off like someone on a very bad LSD trip trying to ground himself. The general impression he gives off is one of lethal competency and assured unflappable confidence, with a fairly easygoing but professional attitude, which persists all the way to the end of act 1, throughout act 2, and only starts collapsing in Act 3

Once he learns hes a bhaalspawn, the combined stress of that revelation plus the ones hes learned in moonrise towers has started puncturing holes in his carefully constructed facade into a frankenstein of his Act 1 and 2 vibes. The end result is someone with the same lethal competency as before, but teetering on a very unstable knife's edge. Some of the twitch has started to come back, and hes snappier and more irritable than usual, because there just isnt any relief from the endless pressing throngs of people, and its driving him up a wall. The confidence is now taken as anticipation of bloodletting, and his general affect is more unsettling for it, like someone trying ever so slightly unsuccessfully to hide the fact theyre actively fantasizing about peeling your skin like a banana. Hes aware of it and tries to talk as little as possible to as few people as possible, made more difficult by the fact that by this point hes established himself as the partys go-to haggler and interrogator-of-npcs.
