experimentations ft. the Artpop queen herself
Silly little (not so little) unrelated HC I developed later under the cut
₊˚ ‿︵‿︵‿︵୨୧ · · ♡ · · ୨୧‿︵‿︵‿︵ ˚₊
🎀- HC that EVE's most normal hobby - when not occupied with other things - is repainting dolls 🎀- Like in a blue moon you can catch her at the hobby lobby in mom jeans and a cardigan just looking for materials
★- In her down time (which is a bit rare these days) Nadia'll pick those ball-jointed Barbie/Bratz/MH dolls and give them a complete makeover ☆- While she's making them she's fervently thinking 'I will love you in a way that no one else EVER has' and she treats them all that way ★- She'll repaint them in the most unconventional ways possible but they're still gorgeous; a perfect reflection of her studio artwork on a body that isn't her own ☆- Sometimes if she's low on fabrics, instead of making a full-sized mockup of her exhibition fits she'll use her dolls to test the outfit design and make a mini version of the fit with small pieces of the final material ★- She's got this HUGE shelf on her pad that's got these fashion icon dolls displayed with their name and inspiration on a little plaque ☆- Whenever something significant happens and she doesn't want to paint, she'll hold onto the feeling, good or bad, and jot down an idea for a new doll's look ★- and she DOES truly love each of them - though she may have had to learn to love one in particular
🎀- She picked up the hobby in college (before she met Zuke) but didn't really think anything of it 🌸- It was just a means to practice different makeup looks and pencil techniques without sculpting something - and it was fun! She liked having a cute little gal at the end of the process 🎀- When she came up with the idea of using the dolls as models, she created a doll of herself but made the decision to make its skin completely white 🌸- When Nadia met Zuke, she sort of put the hobby aside to focus on her other art mediums, but she looked at the doll of herself and felt comfortable enough to repaint the right side pink (and she laughed a bit to herself looking at the final result, because it looked... Cute! Just like her other gorgeous dolls...) 🎀- After Rapturica, she didn't feel the need to create a doll based on her feelings as she didn't feel as hurt as she expected, but she did find it really, REALLY hard to look at the doll of herself, so she hid it away... 🎀- she picked up repainting again later but went in HARD - they began to look more artsy and alien, just like her other art pieces 🌸- After graduating she didn't really have time to repaint dolls and focused on creating other arts/music again, only occasionally using them to test outfits (but never the one of herself) 🎀- After the events of NSR though, she picked it up again as a form of self-care. It's something she doesn't have to create for the public eye, and she's rekindled the joy of creating a strange little gal and loving them despite their bizarre quirks. 🌸- ... I think she feels a bit more comfortable looking at the doll of herself now, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
★- She's probably still got doll repaint videos up on her channel from her college days, hehe. ☆- (She's debating whether or not to make a mini exhibition about the concept of dolls.* Likely not, as she doesn't want to taint the tranquility of the act, but she still likes the idea. It's better to not mix work art with home art, anyway.) (* (How they can reflect their caretaker, they exhibit both confidence and vulnerability, they can be broken and discarded but repaired, they're still images that can be moved in a 3d space however you desire, they rely on a person to actually be 'real' ykyk that kind of thing. the symbolism of dolls.)
The doodle I made in the 3rd picture (above the cut) is inspired by those really pretty doll repaints... I think that that look in particular is one that she tested on a doll first... pre-ugly cry, that is.
Thanks for reading my very silly idea... decorated the bullets with Bows and stars because I felt like it, haha. Have a lovely day~🌸

Do you have any advice on how to get funnier? Do you bounce jokes/plots/etc. off other people to see what hits? Do you just write what you find funny? I feel like I'm funny enough in real life, but it's hard to translate that to the page.
Oh gosh, this is a toughie. HOW TO FUNNY.
Well, for one thing, being funny in writing is a lot harder than being funny in person, because in person you're generally talking to people that you've built a rapport with (friends, acquaintances, coworkers). Humor is one of those instinctive evolutionary tools that we developed in order to help form social bonds. Like how our brains register babies as cute because or evolutionary development requires us to be really invested in caretaking. That's how an adult bonds to an infant, yes? But then there is also an evolutionary advantage in adults forming bonds with other adults. Sometimes this happens with physical traits like cuteness or hotness (romantic/sexual attraction is one type of bond), sometimes with vulnerability and "this person needs me" (caretaking is another type of bond)... There are lots of bonds. Leadership. Respect. Solidarity. Community.
But then humor is a REALLY effective form of bonding -- arguably the MOST effective, because it can trump any other of the other bonds any day of the week, and twice on Tuesdays. We have all met someone who was physically not that spectacular to look at, just sort of a Normal Looking Human, but then you find out that they are SO FUNNY and suddenly they are the "hottest" person in the room. We have all heard of a situation where someone was the leader of a clique and had managed to get everyone to worship them... Until a new jokester entered the social circle and suddenly the leadership-bond is not nearly so compelling as THIS GUY WHO MAKES EVERYONE LAUGH (and the leader gets huffy and grouchy about it, and suddenly everyone notices that the emperor has no clothes and that the leader were faking it the whole time. And then the local jester has won the day).
So how to GET FUNNIER? And how do I advise you, when comedy is so individual and what you find funny might be different than what I find funny?
First, study funny shit. Study it like a bug. Read funny books or watch comedy shows with an eye of "How are these jokes constructed? What is making it funny?" Frequently you will notice that some comedians aren't actually all that funny, they're just snarky and good at building rapport with the audience, so the audience laughs as an expression of the social bond, not because the joke was legitimately hilarious. (Here is my "this made me Actually Laugh out loud" tag if you want some insight into my comedy style and possible raw material to study)
Second, a lot of writers like Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams have written about the art of writing comedy, and I'm sure that there are how-to books for comedians as well.
There are a couple main things that make something funny: The juxtaposition of things, the element of surprise, anticipation that pays off, repetition of an established joke, and comedic timing. (Notice that surprise and anticipation are OPPOSITES -- sometimes a thing can be funny when we see it coming a mile away. Sometimes a thing is funny when it is unexpected.)
Examples: In this video, the comedy is coming from the juxtaposition of the background song against the long shot of the Oreos. We see the punchline coming from a mile away (the oreo package says "MOST STUF" and yet he takes the oreos apart to increase the stuf, thereby disproving the package's claim), and so it reasserts something that many people already know and have experienced for themselves. It's the "we've all been there" effect. This would probably not be a funny to people who did not grow up eating Oreos, or who for some reason did not go through the spontaneous phenomenon of "take them apart for MORE SUGAR".
Comedic timing is, of course, the king of comedy techniques, and it is the hardest to pull off in writing. Or, well, people say that it is the hardest. It's not actually the hardest, because it's just a subcategory of the technique of Pacing, both on a story level and on a sentence level. If you can figure out how to take control of the reader's mind and ride them like they're a jaeger and you're the pilot, then you can make them laugh. This is done by controlling the SPEED that they're reading at and the rhythm -- control their speed and rhythm and you control comedic timing. Controlling a reader's speed is done with relatively simple techniques, of which there are two big ones:
Sentence length. Really short sentences read fast. Use a lot of short sentences. Your readers will read quickly. This style is easy to skim. Unfortunately, it can also get boring. See what I'm doing here? Lots of short sentences. On the other hand, as everyone knows and as you have probably experienced for yourself, longer sentences give the impression of a longer and more complex and nuanced thought, even if not as much information is being conveyed; it's a simple matter of hanging a lot of dependent clauses off of one main thing and seeing how long you can go before you hit that final full stop. Varying your sentence length varies your timing and starts to unlock some of the timing control necessary to generate comedy. You can put something in a joke rhythm with this and then it will read like a joke.
Forcing a pause. A pause is the alpha and the omega of comedy. Thus, do not underestimate the comedic potential of a strategic paragraph break. The human brain works so quickly that even the NANOSECONDS it takes for your eyes to physically move from one line, through the strategic paragraph break, to the punchline -- that alone is enough time for the brain to register a pause and for the reader to then feel "surprised". Strategic paragraph break is perhaps the king of comedic writing techniques, IMO. (Careful not to overuse it!)
There are other mechanical techniques involved, but these are the big ones for timing. With these, you can take an otherwise unfunny scene and adjust it through nothing but timing alone to suddenly be funny.
Finally, a fun fact: When I am writing comedy, I am writing with a dead straight face. I am a cold and ruthless joke-engineering machine. I nearly never laugh at my own jokes. There is ONE (1) joke that got me to crack when I was writing Running Close to the Wind, and that was someone talking about Avra "scuttling up a tree like a little rat that's got something badly wrong with it". Still makes me grin to this day. Idk man.
Anyway I hope that helped!! wow this got long

I've been reading your posts for awhile now and I genuinely enjoy reading your takes especially with Harry's characterization. so I've been wondering what are your thoughts on the lupin family? especially with teddy? although I still kinda dislike his parents' relationship i still think he's an interesting character and i wished people talked about him more outside of shipping. What would his relationship with harry be growing up? Also Lyall's death was never really confirmed, only hope's was so do you think he and Andromeda raised teddy instead of harry? It still feels odd that remus chose a 17 year old to be his son's godfather surely there were other suitable candidates than a literal teenager.
Thank you so much 💕
So, this is like entirely in my headcanon space since I did not watch/read Cursed Child and I'm not planning to. I don't consider any of the post-book material canon at all except the Quidditch World Cup in 2014, which I accept since it's fun and doesn't go out of its way to ruin established characters. I enjoyed reading it more than the epilogue, so that's something.
That being said, I often prefer to ignore many aspects of the epilogue and the World Cup article when headcanoning post-books events. I also don't engage much with next-gen stuff since I'm more interested in Harry's generation, but I do have some thoughts about Teddy.
With all this out of the way, let's talk about the Lupins.
So, I like Remadora, I think they're alright for the little we see of them. Tonks just deserves so much better than Lupin in my mind. I mean, he wanted to leave her, after he got her pregnant, for his own sense of inadequacy, guilt, and allergy to taking responsibility. Harry was so justified in ripping Remus a new one.
Now, I mentioned here, how I think Remus didn't make Harry Teddy's godfather because he thought Harry was ready (though Harry is more mature and responsible at 17 than Remus is at 37, so...), but as a way to promise Harry that he isn't going to push him, or Tonks, or anyone who loves him away anymore. It was Remus trying to apologize in a weird way that didn't really land. Especially since he goes and dies right after. (can you tell Remus is my least favorite marauder?)
Now, I find it really hard to imagine Remus as a father for Teddy had he lived. Like, I can see Tonks being a cool mom and her and Teddy matching hair colors when walking together and messing with people (and I think she could become more responsible had she lived longer). Remus is a harder one for me to envision as a parent. I mean, I think he'd be relieved that Teddy wasn't born a werewolf, but whenever he'd look at Teddy and Nymphadora, I think Remus couldn't help but feel sorry for himself and like he doesn't deserve them. While making Harry Teddy's godfather was meant to be a sort of promise, I can't see Remus fixing his habits so quickly. I mean, he'd try. But I can also see him, trying to up and leave a few times only to be talked out of it by various characters.
I think his behavior is going to put a lot of stress on Tonks too. Like, While I think they do love each other, I don't know how well their relationship would work in the long run if Remus doesn't bother to work on himself and get his fucking act together.
But in the books they both died, so Teddy is spared the mess his parents' relationship likely would've been and is instead stuck with a different mess of being an orphan with a 17-year-old caretaker. (This kid cannot win. Maybe because both his parents were kinda irresponsible and didn't quite get a grasp on adulthood when he was born)
So, post-DH, Remus and Tonks are dead, Ted Tonks is dead and we are left with a grieving Andromeda who lost all her family (again), a grieving Harry who just keeps losing people, and a newly orphaned barely a-year-old Teddy Lupin.
I think Teddy is an interesting mirror to baby Harry and Neville in a way. His parents died/couldn't take care of him because of Voldemort/his followers and he was left with only a godfather/grandmother. Teddy got both and his godfather isn't in Azkaban, so he has it a little better.
I like to imagine Harry makes sure to be super involved with Teddy's childhood, but I can't imagine a 17-year-old (almost 18) Harry post-war and maybe going back to Hogwarts for 8th year (depends on headcanon) being in a state to take care of a baby full time. I like to think Andy helps out in that first year a lot. I think Andy needs someone, some family to get her through loss. And I think Harry could enjoy Andy's company too. I'm sure she has plenty of stories about a young Sirius, and maybe even a young James, and in my headcanon, Andy somewhat adopts Harry as an extra son too.
Which means she ends up seeing way more Weasleys than she ever expected to. I think the Weasleys, who just lost Fred would understand a lot. I mean, both Andy and Molly lost a child and other family. I want Andromeda be more involved with all of them post-canon. That's my wish.
So Harry is Teddy's official guardian, but he spends loads of time with his grandma and the Weasleys growing up probably. Like, I don't mind him and Victoire being together, though I wouldn't necessarily have been my preferred choice, but I don't really care. They're probably childhood besties because they grew up together.
As for Teddy's relationship with Harry, I think Harry would end up treating him more like a much younger brother than a son. I mean, when Teddy would be 10, Harry would just be 27. Don't get me wrong, Harry could, technically, be his dad, but I think their dynamic is going to be different than that of Harry with his own children. Just because of how young and traumatized Harry is when he gets Teddy.
So, I think their relationship would have its tense points, but they'd also love each other. Like, you know Harry would do his best. He'd be super protective over Teddy, Andy would be, too. Like, no one messes with this kid.
But I also kinda want Teddy making a: "you're not my dad" joke/comment when Harry tries to send him to his room or something and Harry doesn't know if he wants to laugh or cry the first time it happens. But I think it would become a recurring joke Harry laughs from.
I think the first years would be the roughest. Everyone's grieving and trying to settle back into a semblance of normal life. Harry never really had a "normal life" he's gonna have no idea what to do with himself and I think Teddy could be a purpose he dedicates himself to. I think these two and Andy could all help each other figure their lives out. But as Teddy grows older and things settle down, it becomes easier.
While I think Harry and Teddy would end up really close, it's not going to be exactly the same relationship Harry and Sirius had. Teddy is going to have a happy childhood, Harry and Andy wouldn't let it be any other way, so he won't have the same grief and trauma Harry did as a child. Like, their dynamic would be less desperate, I think. Like, Harry wouldn't need to stay in a cave and eat rats for Teddy, their situation would be way chiller. Like, I think Harry would be constantly confused about how Teddy ended up being such a cool kid/teen because he doesn't think he could've raised him like that and he would joke about it with Teddy who'd be all sarcastic like: "Obviously, I raised myself here,"
Like, I imagine Teddy with his mother's punk fashion sense and goofiness (the goofiness I believe was 100% shared by Ted Tonks), Remus' voice and constant self-doubt, Andromeda's posture (he sits with his back perfectly straight, okay, Andy didn't let him slouch by the table), and Harry's sarcasm. He's like this mix of them and still his own person.
I think Teddy is likely to go through quite a lot of personal phases to try and figure out his own identity and how he portrays himself. Becouse everyone treats him as the godson of the famed boy who lived, but his dead parents were the last Metamorphmagus and a Werewolf. And he is very close to his grandma, who is a disowned daughter of House Black. Like, this is a kid rip for angst about who he is and who people see him as and him being a Metamorphmagus really leans into it.
Like, a young Teddy making sure to look like Harry in public because he's proud of the connection. Or Teddy mimicking Remus or Tonks' appearance from photos when he thinks about them and misses them or wants to remind strangers who his parents actually are becouse they seem to forget. Like, that could be super fun.
I think Harry's kids would really like Teddy. He's like a cool older cousin/brother who lives with them. Like, I can see them really looking up to him and Teddy would complain to Harry about being followed around by a 3-year-old that won't leave him alone and Harry would just find the whole thing amusing.
(I can also see a post-war Andromeda getting back in touch with Narcissa, so you could involve the Malfoys too if you felt like it. Though I feel like Teddy would just, not like Lucius much)
(Also also, I think Lyall is dead. I feel like if he was alive we would know, yk?)

whump intro (redux)
hi there! it's me, gav @foundfamilywhump. he/they, 27. aro butch.
this is my second whump account, for posts that are generally darker/more explicit/overtly triggering in particular ways. there will regularly be sexual violence in the posts on this blog, though everything will be tagged as thoroughly as i can, for content warning and organization purposes. as a note, i want to be clear about something: when i write about or engage in whump that is focused on sexual violence, i do so from a pure whump perspective centred on trauma. it is not meant to be erotica or kink material. i can't and won't try to control what anyone does or doesn't do in their own time, but do not bring it to my door please.
combo of fandom and non-fandom whump posts/reblogs, though i don't really do much with like... specific whump ocs, it's just not something that holds my interest for some reason. i do some giffing, and i'm trying to get more practice with it. this is a side-blog, so if i don't follow you back, that's why lol. queue posts once a day.
please do not add things about romance to my posts when you reblog them. totally get that not everyone who reblogs from me will see this post or remember it when reblogging and im not gonna be pissed off if someone does but i did want to make that request publicly and explicitly. i post often about relationships between characters, including whumpees and caretakers, that include a lot of intimacy, intensity, affection, support, love, etc. none of those posts are romantic and they are intentionally nonromantic.
housekeeping under the cut, re: what will be here, what won't be here, etc.
things you will find here:
interpersonal dynamics of the team, found family, enemies to friends, queerplatonic varieties (and more!). big emphasis on platonic intimacy.
some fave tropes include touch starvation, torture, difficult and complicated recovery arcs, whipping, nightmares, characters being helped to bathe/wash after whump, interpersonal abuse, and many many more
comfort and care, and hope if not 'happy' endings
darker content than is on my main whump blog, as per the purpose. sexual violence, interpersonal/child abuse is a frequent topic.
things you will NOT find here (sometimes with some exception):
romance. at all. if i make a post, it is always meant without romance. if i reblog a post, i avoid romantic relationships as much as i can. i am an intensely romance repulsed aromantic person.
character death
hurt no comfort
pet whump/bbu type stuff/general 'prolonged captivity where no one ever gets out and the whumpee is fawning and completely brainwashed' vibe stuff
'carewhumpers'. this is such a specific niche beef but i really do not understand the term and i think it makes no sense and kind of sucks and plays into some really uncomfortable and shitty beliefs about abuse and what 'real' harm is and how harm is 'not that bad' if someone doesn't truly mean it or if they're like, nice sometimes. more on that here from my main whump blog.
gendered generic whump posts. im sorry, there's just no reason this generic nameless whumpee needs to be a 'he'.

Hey Aliceee! Random question/scenario (I need someone to share this pain with me lol)
Thoughts on Karasu x afab!Reader x Yukimiya?
I have been seeing people like both these two walkig forests but I have seen anyone write about them.
jeirin ... jeirin my lovely ....i give u this (cw: nsfw). i quite literally JUST read it but holy shit is it going to stain my mind for days on end im so serious
for my own thoughts about them as a duo, i think it's only natural as both a karasu and yukki self-shipper that i indulge in the both of them at the same time with no shame HAHAHAHV 🙈
boyfriendism takes it up another notch with these two i firmly believe yesyes mix karasu's attentiveness with yukki's natural caretaking and wow do u get a double whammy of husband material HOOHOHOH,,, i think the harmony between the two in a relationship would really be well-balanced and fair; they're the type to ensure fairness split evenly between the three of you just as long as the other upholds it as well so no single person is prying attention from one other person.
not to say that it's necessarily a competition between them. give it up for bisexuality!!!!!! karasu admires yukki's confidence and insurance of himself, thinking he's extraordinary for persevering through everything to fight for his dream despite his eye condition. yukki mirrors him; he loves the way that karasu is so sharp and witty, and how precise he can be which perfectly aligns with his own meticulousness about the future, even the small bits of it.
date nights would be nothing less of splendid too! yukki can usually locate a good spot to go to whilst karasu can plan out how the date can go so they rarely ever end off on a bad note—be it menu research or an itinerary. they're so meticulous about it too, even the casual dates like shopping or going to a restaurant, but it's only because they just want to make sure u have a wonderful time with them ueueue !
as for interactions, karasu loves watching you and yukki dress each other up, trying his best not to fawn over you two when you two then go pretty him up. yukki loves it when you and karasu talk away with one another and let him be an intentful listener, enjoying the ways your brain and his coincide with one another verbally so he can capture the finer details.
nsfw thoughts below hehe
yukki soft dom/top whilst karasu is a switch i think! i really do think yukki is the number one caretaker in the relationship, so his gentle nature seeps into the bedroom. karasu can get bratty sometimes, especially if he's had a bad day, so it's up to you and yukki to take care of him (and put him in his place is he's attempting to best u and yukki 🙈)
karasu is also mainly dominant; i pinpoint it on him craving control so only the best case scenarios come out. he'll direct you what to do, where to go, and how yukki should make you feel good. sometimes, he's okay with just watching, analyzing how certain stuff plays out and enjoying the way your faces contort into pleasure knowing that it was his doing. he doesn't have a preferance of whether it's him being taken care of or him taking care of you and yukki, as long as someone is feeling good thanks to him wheeeeee
yukki just prefers taking on a softer role of dominance, so he prefers not to degrade you in the way that karasu sometimes does. he finds it easier to get you riled up when he praises you, whispering how you're doing a great job, kissing the nape of your neck with a smile. he'll obey karasu's word, just as long as it's him that's doing the giving since he prefers that over receiving.
either way, you'll be in good, if not great hands with them ( •̀ ω •́ )✧!!!! probably one of the healthiest boyfriend duo u can get with the boys!

Already Waist-Deep
Hi internet void. Please allow me to kagura my bachi all over the place for a little bit. I've got a bad case of the brain worms about these boys that I haven't even had together for 20 chapters yet, so let me ramble a little bit about why they're already so compelling as not only a duo, but a ship.
First off, a caveat. Kagurabachi is a Weekly Shounen Jump (WSJ) action series. That means that if romance is ever addressed in the series itself, the protagonist is going to end up with a girl. Doesn't matter how underdeveloped or lackluster his relationship to her is, or how flat she is as a character. Invest lightly and come along for the ride without any expectations of m/m ships becoming canon. (That said, it might not be the worst thing in the world for our MC to end up with a girl in this case- more on that later.)
Second, I don't really ship that often. Not seriously at least. I need more than two guys being close with each other to start wanting them to be a pair, y'know? So I hope you understand the intensity of the material Hokazono-sensei has been giving us the past few chapters. I am on the brink of going all-in on HakuHiro/ChihiHaku in less than 20 chapters, it's that insane.
Third, I will be talking about current developments without marking potential spoilers. There are only 38 chapters out as of writing this, but there are at least two reveals that would be better appreciated going in blind. Spoilers for the oneshot Farewell! Cherry Boy are also a thing near the end.
Okay? Okay. Let's begin.
Who's Involved? First up is our protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira, an 18 year old boy and the son of a famous swordsmith. He was raised with genuine love and care by his father (no idea what happened to his mom yet), taking care of their day-to-day life while learning his father's trade. And from the very first chapter he is steeped in tragedy as he witnesses his father's murder and life's work being stolen. He then sets out on the long, fraught road of vengeance.
Sounds grim and not exactly compelling, right? Especially when this scene from the first chapter was making the rounds being memed to death:
Tumblr media
But there's much more to Chihiro than meets the eye. Flashbacks to his time growing up show him being a natural caretaker to his dad and their fish- cooking meals, keeping his dad on task, and so on. We see glimpses of underlying tenderness when he meets and rescues Char, a sweet little girl with her own tragic past. And we get some insight that he might not be quite as resolute as he's projecting himself to be when he faces off against Sojo, a fan of his father who worships a much different version of the man than Chihiro knew. And now the Rakuzaichi arc has definitively shown us that Chihiro isn't as collected as he seems. One of his father's killers easily cracks the mask and shows us Chihiro is really just a desperate kid with a heaping helping of trauma, then Tenri's pointless sacrifice shakes him to his core. But despite it all he's still doing determinator things in the most badass way possible. Chihiro has layers, man. A lot of them. And the best way to understand our protagonist right now is through his foil: Hakuri Sazanami.
Who is Hakuri? A 17 year old boy with a special lineage, but he's a loser who needs to be saved from common thugs. A pathetic guy who latches on to Chihiro and doesn't take the hint when Chihiro literally runs away to ditch him. An utter failure to his family. A lost puppy looking for a samurai.
Hakuri Sazanami is one of the best goddamn foils I've seen in shounen manga yet.
Let me tell you all the ways I love the writing around this kid and Chihiro because MAN I can't even contain all these feels.
What's Going On? From the start, Hakuri looks like he's just another person for Chihiro to bail out. He witnesses Chihiro's awesomeness fighting Sojo in the streets and decides to imitate it by standing up for a little girl being kidnapped. Instead of winning out, though, he's captured and kicked around. Once he's coincidentally rescued by Chihiro he's immediately all-in on tagging along and keeping Chihiro in his life. Look at this pitiful guy:
Tumblr media
Chihiro decides to hear him out due to his connection to the Sazanamis, the Big Bads of the arc. He's initially put off by Hakuri's intensity but brings him along anyway, as Hakuri's insider information regarding the Sazanami family makes him useful. Then, as Chihiro wavers under Hiyuki's assault, Hakuri is truly useful for the first time:
Tumblr media
And it only gets better from here. We see Hakuri hanging off Chihiro's every word trying to be as useful as possible for his samurai, striving to do anything he can, though it ends up with him forcing Chihiro to give up his precious sword Enten in exchange for his life. (Yes, Chihiro "buys" Hakuri from Hakuri's own family.)
Later on during the invasion of the auction is where things go into overdrive though. We see their character arcs start to invert and shape each other's as the action unfolds and Hakuri's own tragic past comes to light, eventually awakening him to his special abilities. Chihiro's bravery and strength help him pull this off and finally defeat the older brother that tortured him in the name of "love". Hakuri ascends to being the strongest Sazanami since the progenitor that started their line centuries ago. He's the Special Boy!
All this to say that Hakuri Sazanami isn't just a deuteragonist or a foil…
He's the goddamn heroine.
Kagurabachi's Built Different What makes a shounen series heroine? Firstly, they support the main character without getting involved in most of the heavy fighting. A shounen heroine will usually at most have a fight against another girl while the Big Event is happening nearby, making sure the main character has the spotlight. Second, most of the value they bring to the protagonist's story is emotional. They encourage him, validate him, provide a bit of a refuge for him to safely let his guard down. They can get him to express softer emotions that he wouldn't normally show around others. Third… they're the love interest. Hinata, Orihime, Chichi, and now… Hakuri? Really?
We know the third one will not happen for HakuHiro in canon. But what about the first two? Well, let's recap what Hakuri has done for Chihiro so far.
Hakuri can defend himself now, but his most useful ability is access to an interdimensional storehouse. Given the way that his magic works -he needs to prioritize maintaining the storehouse or using Isou- he'll likely be the means of keeping the enchanted blades safe rather than a front-line fighter. Support-centric character that will still get some combat time against lesser opponents: check.
Hakuri's given Chihiro some much-needed direct emotional validation that he hasn't gotten from anyone else yet. ("You saved me." … "That katana suits you.") Hakuri's words fortify his resolve and Chihiro later pays it back by trading Enten, an incalculably precious sword and memento of his father, for Hakuri's life. He even uses the same phrase when asked why he'd do that for someone as worthless as Hakuri ("That guy… saved me."). He later reaffirms that Hakuri's encouragement gave him the courage to let go of Enten in the first place:
Tumblr media
This is AFTER we see Chihiro open up to him for the first time just minutes after they met:
Tumblr media
Chihiro's been a stoic good guy with buried trauma up until this point. But somehow Hakuri is the first person he outright admits his fears to- not Shiba, not Hinao, but the freaky kid he just rescued. Emotional support pillar: check.
"Well that's not enough!" you say. "That's just taking some moments and doing that thing you said you didn't do- smushing boys together just because they're close!" OK but look at how Hakuri thinks about Chihiro:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Chihiro has been his inspiration from the first time he saw him. It can be read as admiration and hero worship, but doesn't that feel like selling Hakuri's feelings short when remembering how devoted he's been since they first met?
And just look at Hakuri's face here, he's beaming when Chihiro busts in to save him just like he believed he would:
Tumblr media
Mostly, though, Chihiro is the one who gives Hakuri strength in the moment. The Ice Woman broke him free of his family's mentality, and now Chihiro gives Hakuri what he needs most: hope. Something he never had before, which doomed his relationship to the Ice Woman; he couldn't prove to her that there was more to life than despair because that was all he knew… but that completely changed once he met his samurai.
And that's been their thing through this arc. Each one is giving the other the vital thing they needed to grow and keep going. When Hakuri was struggling at the start, Chihiro was his guiding light towards a better future. And when Chihiro struggled in the aftermath of Tenri's cruel death, Hakuri pulled him along so they could finish the job. They're in perfect sync now as they take down the Rakuzaichi. Don't just take my word for it, check out Hokazono-sensei's color page for the most recent chapter (38): https://twitter.com/KaguraShiba/status/1804898273859445181 From Hella (KaguraShiba): >Kagurabachi Ch 38 JP Color Page 「阿吽の呼吸で薙ぎ払え」 "Two people dancing to the same beat, mowing down enemies" >阿吽の呼吸/"Aun no Kokyuu" Synchronized breathing >Or when people are the most in tune with each other >阿吽の呼吸/"Aun no Kokyuu" Is a Buddhist expression in Japanese meaning something close to "harmonizing in sync together" >"Aun" is also used to indicate an "Aun relationship", indicating an inherently harmonious relationship or nonverbal communication Yeesh. But holy shit it's paying off. In chapter 38 these boys are already in harmony- Hakuri registers Chihiro into his storehouse (yes they both "own" each other now) and sends him in to fight his father. During the fight, Chihiro trusts Hakuri to interpret his intent and it works. Chihiro wordlessly tags a bunch of grenades with his spirit energy and Hakuri pulls them out into the real world to bomb the shit out of the Rakuzaichi audience. They didn't plan this beforehand- they had no idea Kyoura had fucking grenades laying around in there. But they're close enough to understand each other's thoughts already. Peak soulmate material right there!
What's got me most interested now, though, is how they will pull/push each other after this arc. Chihiro's going to be focused more than ever on tracking down his father's killer and the swords. But Hakuri, well… I think it would be very interesting if he starts to become a despair monster. A reflection of Chihiro's state at the very start of the manga where nothing mattered to him except exacting revenge. We're seeing shades of this in the most recent chapter (38) where he's slumped over and obviously depressed about how all this is turning out. He's going to end his family's cruel trade but at what cost to himself? Will Chihiro see some of himself in Hakuri and be able to help him out, or at least promise to find relief from the pain together? Obviously a Bad End where Hakuri takes himself out is in the cards given Hokazono-sensei's previous works but… on a meta level, I think his storehouse ability will keep him relevant. I mean yeah he could be used to slap Chihiro across the face by showing what a bad end for his revenge story could look like but I think (hope) that won't happen. [Note to future self: I give you permission to go batshit insane if Chihiro stops Hakuri from committing sudoku.]
And this is where my brain worms are coming from. In just under 20 chapters we have an extremely strong set up between them- so much room for them to teach each other; push to grow and pull back from the brink when tragedy strikes again.
But where's the real meat, you ask? The actual literary analysis in this gushing rant about how much I love these boys I barely know? Well, fine. Buckle up because it's time for some…
Daddy Issues The Rakuzaichi arc really digs into comparing Chihiro's affection for his dad to the Sazanami family structure. And I gotta talk about this because it's the key aspect that makes Hakuri such a brilliant foil.
First off, the similarities. Chihiro and the Sazanami kids are all intensely devoted to their fathers. All of them were raised with love while learning the intricacies of their family trade. We see the Sazanami kids getting praised for doing well, just like Chihiro. Hakuri and Tenri were even told they were special. During the arc, the Sazanami kids put their lives on the line to defend their dad and family legacy with zeal matched by Chihiro's intensity to avenge his dad. When he falls, Tenri's final words are apologizing to his father.
It's truly heartbreaking that Kyora never really loved them back.
You see, the Sazanamis are one of those families that put their lineage and craft over everything else. Every member of the family lives for ensuring the Rakuzaichi auction goes off without a hitch. One of the clan is chosen to inherit the storehouse, and the rest are trained to defend it to the death. Kyoura, the current patriarch, has no compunctions about letting his son Tenri die just to delay Chihiro and the gang for a few more minutes. He had his kids put their lives on the line to defend a storehouse door that he had already broken in secret- making it completely useless. And he's equally cold when it comes to children who can't perform to standards like Hakuri. Once Hakuri (apparently) fails to manifest an ability for sorcery, Kyoura turns a willfully blind eye to the abuse his kid starts to suffer. He knowingly lets Hakuri be tortured by his older brother for years and does nothing, then disowns him once some "merchandise" kills herself in front of him. There's no love for children who can't be useful to the family's traditions. And yet any love that does exist between father and child is manipulated as seen here:
Tumblr media
What the fuck man.
So Hakuri is going into this arc firm in his conviction to end his family's evil ways. He's been abused physically and emotionally for at least five years straight; he knows his father doesn't love him. But even now when he's about to bring the whole place down with Chihiro, he's still yearning for his dad's praise. Hakuri's family is fucked up bad and he needs a hell of a lot of healing after all is said and done.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, every flashback with Chihiro shows us that he was truly loved and cared for like every kid deserves. His dad wasn't perfect but he was exactly what a parent should be- kind, understanding, and supportive. His goofy advice helps Chihiro to this day. Chihiro and his dad had a genuine father-son bond that was broken by tragedy and thus Chihiro's desire to do right by his father's memory is driven by grief, first and foremost. So when we see his expression after Tenri's death, we know why he's so badly shaken. They clashed out of love and duty for their fathers, supposedly prepared to pay the ultimate price. The Sazanami version of "love" is a very different, much less wholesome version than the kind Chihiro knows… yet no less effective in terms of motivation.
Tumblr media
You can practically hear his heart breaking for Tenri. And his inner thoughts in the next chapter say it all: he was naive to think he could enact revenge while holding fast to the kindness he grew up with. Chihiro's kindness that he learned from his father is a liability to him in this situation. In contrast, Hakuri knew from the start that he had to finally give up the last of his familial affection. He hardened his heart and steeled his resolve to do whatever it took.
Both Chihiro and Hakuri knew what it was like to be loved. Hakuri's version might have been twisted, but it was still painful to have that bond suddenly broken. And now we've seen Edgy Revenge Man's inner softness hold him back while Silly Soft Guy has a heart colder than the arctic. I go absolutely feral comparing and contrasting their situation and how their positions have reversed. Yeah, Chihiro's going to be the action guy who saves the day but Hakuri's the reason he can do it. Hakuri's surprisingly strong core has pushed Chihiro to put his feelings aside to get things done. I can't fucking wait to see how this arc ends and where these boys end up. What will the the most important thing Chihiro takes away from Hakuri here? I hope it leads him to be a bit more openly compassionate and soft around his allies- Hakuri's situation being a lesson in not letting your family's bonds overtake everything else. For Hakuri, well… I think being around Chihiro, Char, and the rest will help him heal. But I hope it's Chihiro that keeps him stable as the person that can relate to him best.
Meta Ramblings Whew. Now then… Yo dumbass writing this, we're not even 40 chapters in yet. Don't you think it's a bit too soon to start getting hyped for a character that could be shelved as soon as the arc is done?
It's interesting to see the themes and characters Hokazono-sensei's reused in Kagurabachi. From the four one-shots available to read, it seems like he's is interested in writing about characters encountering tragedy through various kinds of love. I think it's intriguing that three out of the four end in despair, and the one that doesn't still involves a fair bit of sadness. It's a bit early to say about Hakuri's circumstances since this is only the second proper arc in the series, but given Hokazono-sensei's past works, I think Hakuri is here to stay. For one, Hokazono-sensei seems to love his color-coded foils (Chain, Enten, Roku no Meiyaku). Farewell! Cherry Boy also explores the circumstances of a blindly loyal boy who feels useless being given his first chance to prove himself… I think this is a theme that Hokazono-sensei is revisiting in a more in-depth fashion with Hakuri, so there's a good chance there's more planned.
And just for fun, if we want to look at his romance stories… Madogiwa de Amu is all about one person being the other's greatest hope, their reason to persevere in the face of hardship and seeing that reciprocated in turn. Complete with the weaker person becoming strong enough to protect the person who inspired them first. Hmm. (Hopefully it doesn't end the same way though 'cause man, I can see Hakuri doing something similar right now…) It's also not impossible for Kagurabachi to touch on love given we see Farewell! Cherry Boy incorporating love as the crux of the narrative, despite starting as a gangster story. The true MC is quite like Chihiro as well in terms of motivation and action plan.
I also think it's impossible to overstate how important it is for Chihiro to have a friendly peer to compare to, narratively speaking. Char is a woobie, Shiba's an uncle figure, and Hiyuki is set up to be the aggro rival/frenemy. Hinao could become more than a side character but it seems unlikely at this time. Chihiro needs someone his own age to just be himself with. And that, I am 99% sure, will be Hakuri. A guy who's suffered just as much as he has. Someone who knows what it's like to have a famous last name and lineage to protect. An equal who's unquestionably on his side, who will lift him up when he's down, yet will still need some protection and care. So yes I think Hakuri will be sticking around to be Chihiro's foil. He might take a back seat at times as heroines do, but he'll still be there to support our sad boi through thick and thin.
Anyway that's why I'm ready to jump feet-first into this ship. It's got all the hallmarks of a wonderfully strong bond and I hope we get to see these boys comforting each other for years to come. If you read all this… thank you? Maybe get yourself checked for brain worms? And tell everyone you know to read this amazing action-packed tragedy laced with BL crack cocaine.

I hope Techno and Tommy are prepared for the baby Raveneger to hatch. New babies always make for an adjustment period. Also will the new baby think it’s siblings are food or playmates, both could be dicey.
Well, the unhatched chick is noted to be dog sized and Technoblade is able to carry it. A bit hard to gauge bc dogs notably come in a number of sizes and Piglins may very well be stronger than humans. Still, thereabout that size. Tommy at most might potentially be viewed as an ambitious feast, but I wager at least initially they are not on the dining table. Good chance they're pecked a lot. In part because they wear shinies. Likely as Chick-Chick gets older and bigger, they're solidly in the playmates range. I half suspect Techno might get imprinted on as a more caretaker role, too.
I skimmed light research and found this really cute article about chick playing eagerly explaining why baby chickens need to play and ough my heart! So cute! So yes, Chick-Chick is definitely playing a lot with Rose-Chick and Gold-Chick, especially as they get older. They do have toys, and the cliff top for running around. Tommy and Techno are also really good at preening. Admittedly closer to primate grooming, but still, lots and lots of petting.
Techno: He is SO on board for this chick. Literally melting so baby so cute. Now, while [Philza] makes it abundantly obvious he views Techno as a chick, Techno is a lot more nebulous with his found family terms. He sidesteps Tommy's demands to know if he's a kid, or brother (annoying, next question). He doesn't really see [Philza] as a father per say, at least initially thinking of him as a rival parent. Except, Techno also says: "I am NOT anybody’s father! Bruuuuuh. Do I look like parent material??" So, Techno would also be very wishiwashi about labeling his relationship to Chick-Chick.
On that note. He would kill for Chick-Chick. Techno definitely adopts a more caretaker role, super determined to help with providing food and safety and armor for them. He'll INSIST he's terrible with kids but is great at playing and Chick-Chick adores him.
Tommy: UM OBVIOUSLY that's his sibling. What else. Very initially, Tommy is over the moon because he's not the youngest anymore! But very quickly gets stressed and jealous and sleep deprived from the constant care the baby needs. Cause like. It's a nest, he can't just go to another room. Has a mini arc about feeling like he's losing attention and love less, Techno does not pick up on it AT ALL but [Kristin] straightens that out. Has lots of fun playing with Chick-Chick but as they start to grow FAST soon it gets a bit dangerous for him to play. After Tommy gets injured, Techno makes him some better armor and they try to reign in Chick-Chick's rough housing because, not a lot of space and two people that can't actually fly without their offbrand elytra, and one who is very small. Once things smooth over though Tommy is very on board with his new sibling, falling into that thing slightly older kids do where they very seriously insist on educating the baby while knowing very little. Tommy gets a bit bossy and starts 'Tommy's School for Filling Cho Brain' where he lectures on how to scam people and talking to girls.
Also, potentially Techno and Tommy could learn more of the Ravengence language as [Philza] and [Kristin] teach their chick to speak! I reckon Tommy would only pick up a few words, but Techno is enough of a try hard to get some basic stuff down. As much as his biology can allow at least, he's probably able to understand a lot more than he can say.

jude bellingham reading: as a boyfriend
hi everyone! i got a request to do a reading on jude as a boyfriend so here I am delivering it! I'll try my best to be consistent when it comes to posting so please be patient cause my life is quite hectic ty <3
personal readings
DISCLAIMER: this is all speculative and for entertainment purposes only, so take it with a grain of salt :)
(italicised is the card on the bottom of the tarot deck which is meant to represent the subconscious/blind spot of the situation + rx means reversed)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6 of pentacles, 7 of pentacles rx, 4 of wands, the empress | victim | gemini: curiosity, intellect and networking | turtle
jude is someone very generous when he is in a relationship, wether that'd be with time, affection, but mainly materially. i see jude as a provider, as he seems to have an innate want to take on the provider role in the relationship. his gemini venus tells me that he is happy having his s.o pursue their dreams, however, he'll be a safety net for them to retreat, as he loves to provide. the 7 of pentacles rx could indicate that he could be never satisfied with his material wealth, could have a scarce mindset and feels a burden to always provide. i think he has this need to feel wanted and has a mindset where he always needs to chase. there's this feeling of feeling stimulated by always working towards a goal. 7 of pentacles rx tells me jude could be someone who struggles to leave even if the relationship isn't working out. he's someone who could struggle with codependency, as when he's invested in something/someone, he will give his all sometimes to his own detriment. jude is a private lover, and prefers to not have his romantic life in the limelight. he could be very protective, and pursue those who he can build a home/family with. someone who gets along with his family could be very important to him as well. i feel that jude also prioritises people who he can create a safe home environment with. he looks for people who feel "home" to him however that may be. jude observes what his person is like when they're with his friends/family, as their opinion could influence his perception of his s.o. i see him as a social butterfly in a relationship, constantly wanting to do dates that involve others or do domestic activities such as cooking or baking. he loves celebrating and enjoying life, and ultimately loves creating memories and experiences with the people he cherishes most. jude can be someone who takes on a nurturing role in the relationship, i think this characteristic is innate within him due to him being the eldest in his family. he's got a softness within him and is willing to put others before himself.
with the victim card, this tells me jude's a bit of a pessimist and this tells me that whenever there's conflict in the relationship he could resort to a victim mentality. this isn't necessarily negative though, as this tells me his energy in love is still inexperienced (makes sense cause he's only 20). his energy can seem a bit hot and cold in a relationship due to his gemini venus, but this isn't malicious, he just enjoys having activities and independence outside the relationship. jude seeks intellectual stimulation from his partner and looks for someone he can have a playful relationship with. as a partner, he could really enjoy banter, he could want someone that could be his verbal sparring partner and enjoys a relationship that starts from a friendship. jude could also enjoy networking with his partner's friends as well. he has a lot of curiosity when he's with his partner, and loves getting to know them to their core. the turtle is an interesting figure, as it describes an ancient soul who is grounded, trusting and is at home with themselves. this describes that jude is an individual who seeks adventure and is peaceful and adventurous, there's also a duality to him as he is still figuring out himself yet has a lot of wisdom from within. he can take on a mentor or caretaker role in a relationship as those traits seem natural to him.
so that's it for the reading! let me know if you have any feedback, questions or requests! my askbox is always open for a chat as well <3 sending you love and light always :) hope you enjoyed!

Revisiting/Falling in love with Let The Right One In (book, 2008 film) all over again and remembering why Let Me In (2010) pisses me off so fucking much
This is mostly based on what the two properties do with the character of Håkan/The "Father" and why I personally think it's in bad taste to rewrite him the way they have. I would have liked Let Me In as a more interesting Hollywood horror movie if not for the fact that it is supposed to be an adaptation of Let the Right One In. I do not believe in just saying "foreign remake bad" and I want to give credit where it is due, although the snob in me is more into the aesthetics of the 2008 film and book because they're just... cooler.
I'm also going to use they/them pronouns for Eli.
Onto the real problems. I'm sure this has been discussed at length, lots of people know this already, but I keep reading people interpreting Håkan as the previous Oskar–especially people who watched Let Me In–and I really dislike it even though it's not "wrong" depending on which version of the story you watch. Book Håkan is not a groomed victim of Eli's, or her father. He is a pedophile. He lost his job for being a pedophile. He meets Eli at a low point as an adult, does what he does out of obsession with them, and hopes that one day they will let him touch them the way he wants to. I would argue the way the book presents his and Eli's relationship makes it very clear that they do not like being dependent on him, and hate that he wants them sexually. It feels like a relief when Håkan dies, because in spite of how dangerous their situation is without him Eli is finally free of a man who wants to hurt them.
On the other hand Eli is given much more sympathy. The book dedicates a whole section of Håkan's narration to him being wildly jealous of them playing with Oskar. He realizes that while he tried to justify his attraction to Eli as "love" for an adult in a child's body, so he doesn't have to feel guilty about lusting after children, Eli is in many ways still a child and never really got to stop being one. They play naturally with Oskar and act like a 12 year old. While Eli has been 12 for a long time, they never really felt that they were able to grow beyond it or be an "adult" in a child's body; they have a lot of knowledge but in many ways they are frozen. They come to love Oskar and find solace in him because he's not like Håkan, who they have to tempt with the possibility of intimacy to get him to help them find food and shelter–Oskar is another child who loves them and doesn't see them as a fetish object.
The 2008 film is a pretty faithful adaptation though Alfredsson cut the pedophilia plot line along with many others, which I don't mind at all, but he did give director's notes to portray Håkan as a man who "likes kids but for the wrong reasons". Obviously the lack of narration does open up the possibility of reading the film as a grooming narrative, because we don't know Håkan is a pedophile without access to his thoughts and I appreciate them not placing Lina Leandersson in sexual situations. Lindqvist himself admitted that "Eli is grooming Oskar" is a completely valid interpretation of the 2008 and 2010 film and his screenplay in and of themselves, and he wrote Let The Old Dreams Die in response because he never wanted that to be the case, he was writing a bleak love story. But Let Me In (2010, Yankeefication) pretty notoriously comes up with this plot point that Abby's caretaker, American Håkan, is revealed to have been a child like Oskar who she let grow up after grooming him. And I see a lot of people responding to the films, who think this is the only version of the story and the "truth" of the characters and some outright spreading misinformation about the book and claiming this is in the source material.
TLDR: Basically, what I hate about Let Me In in particular is reframing American Håkan/Father as a victim of Eli/Abby. I resent this choice. I think that it's okay to make changes in adaptation, that's inevitable, but to read that novel and reverse the dynamics between the pedophile and the child victim? Even if you want to reject the original story's intention and themes, to read that novel and rewrite the pedophile who wants to sexually exploit the vampire child as her victim who she groomed just seems quite nasty. It would be fine if it was a standalone movie, I would think it was quite good if it were, and I'm okay with exploring the darker aspects of Eli's character and Oskar's eventual fate (her turning him into another child vampire is kind of beautiful but also really disturbing, and I think it makes for a more nuanced story), but to read that book and decide that you would rather make Eli, still in many ways a child, who is stuck trying to negotiate with a man who wants to assault them for survival, the abuser of poor Håkan all along just rubs me the wrong way. And it's not because it's a remake of the Swedish film either–they had the rights to the book and acquired them at the same time but released Let Me In later due to production issues. I also absolutely resent them removing the complications of Eli's gender identity, however you may feel about its portrayal, and just making Abby a cis girl or robbing us of bi Oskar, but that's another essay.
I'm still quite early into the TV series and I don't think the choice to overhaul the entire story and actually give them a father daughter relationship bothers me as much. I don't like it as an adaptation, but I also love the Mike Flanagan Netflix series and none of those are faithful adaptations of their source novels either so I'm giving it a fair chance. Also I'm not too happy with Hammer "allegedly" screwing Lindqvist over with the adaptation deal (article is in Swedish and unfortunately it's behind a paywall but essentially in an interview about more recent writing he's asked about the TV show and he claims he was misled about the nature of the contract and underpaid for his IP).

Time for another OC infodump~
Welcome to Rubidium Tower!
A just-barely-functioning corporation headed by Spade Havens, a literal angel investor who uses their powers to create the schematics and materials for the assembly of miraculous machines on their strange and slightly unhinged whims and ambitions!
Unfortunately, when your CEO can create such incredible angelic technology on a whim, your building is bound to get raided by countless bad guys at least once a week. It takes a brave heart to be a part of the RuTo team, but Spade appreciates every single one of their employees!
Individual character blurbs below cut!
From left to right:
Ratzy (She/Her), a robot cat that heads the marketing department operations for RuTo. Nonverbal, but very expressive and very dramatic. She has built-in extensive camera and lighting capabilities!
B-055 (He/Him), a top-of-the-line security robot that went rogue when Spade accidentally bestowed upon him the gift of free will. After nearly going on a killer rampage, Spade managed to calm him down by offering him double the normal salary, so he now continues working as security and is at the front lines whenever the tower is invaded. Enjoys using cheesy work-related one-liners while fighting, i.e. "Consider this your notice of termination." "Please perish at your earliest convenience." "I expect your head on my desk by the end of the day." "I'm giving you. The axe. [Lowers medieval axe attachment, flamethrower blast]"
Spade Havens (They/Them), the founder and CEO of Rubidium Tower, responsible for how ridiculously tall the main building is and for all the technology the company produces. They don't really have any idea what they're doing in a way that makes sense to mortals, and they do Not have good impulse control.
Axi (She/Her), an intern who looks up to Spade and aspires to move up in the company someday! She mostly handles IT stuff, making sure the computer systems don't explode. She's also the caretaker of the office pet, Binby.
Binby (Any Pronouns), a trash dragon pup that was created by Spade's magic plus an overfull trash can! He's now the office pet, scurrying around, eating garbage and asking for pets and treats. Actively harms productivity, but nobody's complaining.
Percy (Any Pronouns), a mimic parasite that's taken hold of one of RuTo's break room vending machines. Spade liked the spunk it has, and so hired it as additional security and snack delivery! It can't talk except for monstrous snarling, so a sentient program in the machine itself talks for it, named Zee (She/They/It).

Pls pls pls tell more about AR-CHI, he is so cute❤️
I'd absolutely love to! He's my blorbo :3
I have his ref (and some other 'Tects from Sanctuary) under "master ref" in my archive- but I really love babbling on about him so why not?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AR-CHI is a . . . unique case. He is naturally a smaller Architect, but due to low materials and some . . . manufacturing errors, this normally full grown Architect was stuffed in a tinier version of himself at about 2 feet tall (smol) (with unforseen consequences).
The smaller vessel is much more runty than usual, can't process its internal energy storage and needs to be "fed", and he has some errors in his programming.
Of course he's very distraught and panicky about it and upon being awoken and placed in this tiny vessel, he doesn't know how to react to the presence of the human who saved him and he ends up getting himself severely injured by a Cryptosuchus, loosing his front left leg.
The whole thing was very stressful for him- nearly died, but the human took good care of him and earned his gratitude . . . which later uh . . . prevented him from leaving to say the least.
I'll return back to just the shrimpy (I'm trying to be careful of spoilers ^_^). AR-CHI can't gain energy from his surroundings in his smaller body and has to be "fed" electricity. This is typically done through a cable at the back of his metal node (the plate on his head) and he can easily hook himself up to the wall of a base and give himself a small charge.
He usually naps during that :3
I wanted to play more with this part of him in Sanctuary, but I had to "do it for the plot". It's a running joke that if he's feeling mischievous or needs an immediate charge- he'll stick his tongue in an outlet and it'll surge the power into his body, knocking out the base, setting the outlet on fire, causing him to glow brighter than the sun, and giving him the zoomies.
He does consider the small body a problem and asks his "caretaker" if she could help him get some growth hormones so he can go home properly.
A series of unfortunate events followed that.
I digress, now that AR-CHI is bigger, he is able to settle into his laid back and clingy personality, revealing his feelings for the human who saved him which yes, is a "self-ship"- the character is my Subnautica Sona.
He notably glows brighter in his full grown state, stands at 7' 5" (Freedom units, I think it's a little over 2 meters), and is willing to do whatever it takes to take the other stored Architects home.
He doesn't have much in the way of defense other than these weird "Wolverine" claws on his gauntlets, but he doesn't know where they're from or how to control them. And his other defense is also for recreational use, he can produce a vibrant blue toxin from his teeth and by mixing it with various bodily fluids, he can easily paint any surface- speaking of which he absolutely loves art, but the only draw is that the toxin is a toxin, it can cause seizures and paralysis if bitten, but he's careful only to use it on threats.
He's really a sweetie and is very caring, but is notably touchy and likes to be pet and cuddled which is only further influenced by his fluffy fur tufts which kinda smell like flowers and little bean pads :3
Bonus: I made him into a plushie <3
Tumblr media
He loves his peeper toy :3

Phoenix's POV of this piece by @i-eat-worlds! Joseph belongs to them, and pretty much all of the dialogue is taken from that piece.
Joseph has to give Phoenix medical treatment in a room with Abbie right next door. Set when Kai has just been transferred back to his original team, and Joseph is still pretty much a stranger to Phoenix.
2.1k
CWs: hero whump, immortal whumpee, hospital setting, panic attacks, low self-esteem (approaching self-hatred really), abuse, whumpee thinks they deserve punishment, caretaker new whumper, begging
Phoenix isn't entirely sure where they are.
Abbie's angry and Aaron was here and they think they're somewhere in medbay where they shouldn't be, especially with Abbie here, but they don't know exactly where and now they're just in a room and they want to curl up and cry and sleep and heal but they can't because they're not safe, Abbie's angry, and she's going to punish them and she'll punish them even more if they're asleep first.
But they didn't pay enough attention to where they were going and now they're not sure anyway. All they know is that Abbie's next door, a fact that pours ice down their spine whenever they remember.
When their doorknob turns they press further into the corner of the room and bury their head further in their arms despite knowing they shouldn't, legs tucked in. They know their exposed skin must look like a messed up TV but they can't shove it down and they can't cover it so they just know they're going to get punished even more for it.
They can't do anything right. They can't even cry quietly. They're trying but they just can't stop, it's stupid and childish but they can't help it.
The footsteps are so loud in the quiet of the room, and whoever it is stops in front of them. They don't dare look. Maybe they can pretend nobody's there.
Words come at them. Words that Phoenix can't understand, even though they should, even though not responding will just make everything worse but they can't help it. All they can think about is Abbie in the next room, the punishment they're already getting for getting her injured, she's injured, it's their fault, and they're making things worse by even being here, let alone everything else, and, and–
"Please, please, I'm sorry. Don't tell Abbie, please, don't let her know, I'm sorry, I promise, sir. Please."
They don't really know what they're saying, all apologies and begging as if that'll help, but they have to tell this person somehow. The man has a reassuring smile in his voice and Phoenix doesn't think he gets it.
"I won't tell her. I just wanna help you."
Phoenix sobs. He doesn't get it. It'll hurt if he helps.
"If she…if she sees me like this, she'll…she'll–" They've been stopping themself imagining the specifics up until now but now they can't help it, with the cuffs and the dark and the walls closing in and how bad will it be this time, how much will it hurt? "Please…'m sorry."
"I believe that you're sorry, and I'm not going to…punish you?" It sounds a little like a question, but it's firm, and Phoenix feels themself calm a little. It's not really this man they're worried about hurting them anyway. And they can't do anything about Abbie yet, not if people won't just let them leave. "Aaron asked me to come help you. He's worried about the injury on your leg."
Phoenix swallows, all previous reassurances gone at that. Their injury. It's fine, they shouldn't even be here for that, they're immortal, and if Abbie finds out... they shudder. The last thing they need to be is an inconvenience.
"I'm sorry, please, sir. I know it's an inconvenience. I'm sorry for wasting your time. I can handle it on my own. Please. I know my place. I won't waste. I won't. Please."
Waste of materials, waste of time, waste of space... despite what Aaron says, they know being treated here is a waste, and Abbie will kill them for it, especially after what they caused. It's all their fault.
The man is quiet for a minute. Reconsidering. Realising that they're right, for once in their life.
"I know it's scary, but can you trust me, just for a little bit? I'm not going to hurt you."
He reminds them very strongly of Aaron. But they still don't know him, and he has no reason not to punish them except for his word (and does punishment even count as hurting?). Their vision blurs and they blink fiercely.
"Yes, sir."
"Alright, I'm gonna have to touch you for this. Is that okay?"
Phoenix braces themself, actually looking up now, moving their arms out of the way. This person looks... familiar, somehow, although they're not sure where from.
"Yes, sir."
"I know you can't really stand right now, so I'm going to help get over to the exam table. That cool?"
He places a warm hand on their knee and smiles, for some reason. They start to unfurl, knowing they need to, even though they can barely stand to. He could– he could do anything to them if they're not protecting themself.
He could do anything if they are.
"Yes, sir."
"So, first, I’m gonna put my arms around you, and then lift you up. You can use your good leg to help. It’s completely okay if you need to lean on me for support while I help you onto the exam table."
They appreciate him talking them through this. He's being good to them, he really doesn't need to be, he could just do it or not do anything at all and whatever he did Phoenix would deserve it. They failed, Abbie got injured, and– and–
"Can you put your arms on my shoulders?"
They obey. They should always obey, if they know what's good for them, although they deserve to be punished anyway. They got Abbie hurt and they're in medbay and oh fuck, they're so dead later. If Abbie doesn't kill them herself Indigo or Segun will and it'll hurt and burn and everything will be empty and it'll be entirely their fault.
Why do they have to be so useless?
"I'm gonna lift now. Just as a warning, it might hurt."
Phoenix clings on as the man lifts them, losing balance and falling onto his chest.
"'m sorry."
"You're alright. I'm going to get you up on the table now."
That first part must be a lie, nobody would find it okay for them to be so needy and useless, but they let him lift them onto the table, depositing them gently. Too gently.
"Can you lay down for me? You're doing great."
No they're not. They do as he asks with a whimper, eyes tearing up.
"Thank you, sir."
"Not a problem." He gives them a weird sort of half-smile that they don't deserve. "I'm gonna look at your wound now, okay?"
Phoenix nods, tracking Joseph carefully with their eyes. This is going to hurt, it already hurts, and what's more, he shares Aaron's weird tendency to give them treatment. Medical treatment, that other people need, that they're not allowed, with Abbie right next door, and–
"You… you don't need to do that. It'll heal. I don't wanna be a waste. If she… if she found out– it, um, it'd be bad. I'll heal, sir. I promise I'll heal."
He knows that. He knows that. He has to know that. And the healing is all that matters, so they can continue working.
"It's not a waste to treat you, Phoenix. You deserve medical care just as much as any other hero, but I'm not going to do anything you don't want me to."
That's not true, other heroes aren't immortal or a waste of space, but they can tell from his tone that he won't be persuaded. All they can do is pray she doesn't find out.
"Please don't tell her sir."
"I won't, kid, I promise. I do need to look at it though, I'll do my best to be quick."
Phoenix nods once, doing their best to stave off nausea at the thought of Abbie next door, so close, while they disobey her. She's going to punish them so severely and they'll deserve it so much. They try to watch as the doctor comes near him with the shears but then he's out of sight, and they try not to remember how sharp they are. Aaron's sent him, he– he won't–
"That has to hurt. I'll get you hooked up to some pain meds and then I'll clean it and bandage it, okay?"
Phoenix nods again, feeling cool air on their skin and watching him gather supplies. "Yes, sir."
"Can I have your arm? I'm gonna put a line in. It'll hurt a little bit, but it'll be quick."
Phoenix moves their arm out as much as they dare. It's not like they have much of a choice now they've agreed to this – he can always yank their arm away. But they feel so vulnerable and unprotected without it across their torso. They watch as he inserts a cannula into the crook of their elbow.
"I'm gonna give you something to help with the pain."
No! No, he can't, it's not allowed and Abbie is right there and–
"You don't need to do that, sir. I don't want to waste. You can save them for heroes that need them. I'll, um, I'll be okay."
"It's not a waste. We have plenty of meds, and we're nowhere near close to running out. I don't want you to be in pain when I treat you."
Phoenix attempts to wrap themself up, curl away their weaknesses and vulnerabilities, but their arm gets caught. They don't... they don't deserve painkillers. They'll be fine without them. And what if other, more deserving heroes need them?
But they're not sure they have the energy to argue any further. They just hope no-one tells Abbie how much they've wasted.
"O... okay, sir."
The doctor smiles at them and prepares, but–
"How dare you! Don't you know who I am?"
Her voice echoes around the room, through their head, and they curl up, whimpering. Yes, yes they know who she is, they shouldn't be having this, they know they don't deserve it, they're sorry, they're sorry!
Her grip is tight, hot, bruising, and they know, they know!
"Phoenix, can you look up for me?"
Of course they can. Why's she phrasing the order like a question, she never does that.
Through their blurred vision they see Abbie... no, this other doctor... standing over them. That makes more sense then. Even so, they flinch away from him. There's no way he appreciated that display of patheticness.
"Yes, sir?"
"Would you feel better if we went somewhere else? I can ask Tori, the charge nurse about it."
They know Tori. They like her. And they don't want to cause any more trouble for anyone. It wouldn't be fair, and they're in enough trouble as it is.
"You... you don't need to do that. I'm sorry for making a scene, sir."
Abbie will find out. She always finds out when they disobey or cause trouble. And then she's going to take it out on them.
They know that certainty down to their bones, just as they know that Aaron's friend will one day take her side, start punishing them himself. Aaron himself probably too. There's no way they won't.
"It wouldn't be too hard, and I don't mind at all. I want to make sure you feel safe so that I can help, yeah? I want to help."
Why would he want to help? It doesn't make sense. Is Aaron making them? Regardless, they don't want to push it, they can't risk Abbie seeing them, and their leg hurts so, so much, they're not sure they can move anyway.
"I'm sorry, sir," they whisper hoarsely. God, they're such a inconvenience. "Can I stay, please? It hurts to move."
Because at least that reason is less of a pathetic excuse than avoiding punishment.
"Alright. I'm gonna go ahead and give you the pain meds so I can start working on your leg, yeah?"
Phoenix nods. They start to drift in and out, drowsy, keeping half-lidded eyes on the doctor as he works. He says something else, they're not sure what. The feeling is unnerving.
The painkillers can't last forever though, and they whimper when he prods at the wound.
"I'm gonna flush it out real quick, and then I'll put a bandage over it to keep it clean."
Phoenix frowns, tiredness starting to catch up with them. They can't let it take over, but it's been a long day. And since they arrived in medbay nothing has made sense.
The question slips out before they can stop it.
"If… um... can... I… can I ask why you're… doing this?"
The doctor looks up at them, surprise written all over his features. Like, somehow, he wouldn't consider not doing it. But that can't be right.
"Because I don't like seeing others in pain."
"Oh." They count in that then. That's nice. "Um, thank you, sir."
He smiles gently (that will never stop feeling unnatural).
"Always, kid. Always."

decay of angels
nikolai is, without question, the class clown, and head of the drama club
the teachers HATE him
he asks waaaaaay too many questions, and all the time, too
and they're so random???
they'll be in the middle of a test and he'll ask the teacher "how's your marriage doing right now? how's your partner, are they doing well?"
lowkey gets kicked out of the class daily
now spends most of his time playing cards with the secretary in the office
bram sometimes gets sent there as well, just because he's in the mood to take a nap
however, he doesn't really say that, he'll make up some kind of excuse like "oh it's my medical condition, I have limited energy" because he's paraplegic, even if it's bs
he's also that one edgy kid who sits in the back of the class discussing the end of the world
he??speak??so??oddly??
"death cometh for thou," like dude okay no need to talk like that???
the only person who actually understands what he says is fyodor, the reigning chess champ in the school
he's also very tired all the time, but he doesn't sleep, he'll just answer a few questions here and there if he's forced to, just to shut up the teacher
does the absolute bare minimum effort to pass class because he thinks it's all useless
"you have great potential, and I'm sure you understand all the material, fyodor, so with just a bit of effort-"
"thank you for the advice."
gets up and leaves 💀
fukuchi is the gym teacher that yells all the time and tells students to do pushups just because he feels like their face is mocking him
everyone either loves his class or dreads it
nikolai is fine, he's not all that athletic but he can run pretty decently and, worst case scenario, he just needs to bug the teacher and get sent to the office again to complete his game of poker with the secretary
fyodor hates gym class
with a burning passion
I CAN'T EVEN ENVISION HIS STICK-LEGS RUNNING PROPERLY SKJGKSJFG
hides under any large object and waits it out
bram is in a wheelchair so he just smugly looks at coach like "haha sucker!", only to be given dumbbells and told to do upper body workouts
now, fyodor and bram are hide-from-gym-class buddies
sigma is in preschool
yk since he's like 3 years old-
CHUBBY CHEEKS
he's so precious unlike all the other toddlers, but he does cry a lot
A LOT
LIKE WAY TOO MUCH
"sigma, you have to share your blocks with our friends, okay?"
"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
the caretakers still love him tho
BABY SIGMA BABY SIGMA BABY SIGMA BABY SIGMA

jouno and tecchou are the upperclassmen, which is surprising given how many braincells they share between them
jouno is hands down the pretty popular jock on campus and all the girls FALL TO THEIR KNEES
he does get in trouble every once in a while for bullying people or threatening them, but he has practically seduced the principal at this point, so it's no biggie
tecchou is that one kid who raises their hand in class and gets everything wrong
he's great in gym class, though, seeing as he likes to work out in his spare time
some girls try to approach him while he's doing his own thing and staring at the ground but he's like "wait."
"...wait? for what?"
"the ants"
"...the ants???"
"you were about to step on them."
girls have now stopped trying to approach him
tachihara is the Bad Boy™ with Family Issues™ and Inferiority Complex™
he gets in trouble A LOT
unlike Nikolai, it isn't for harmless questions or disturbing the class, it's for beating up someone else and egging someone's locker and placing a pin on the teacher's chair and-
needless to say, the teachers hate him with a burning passion
he's taking teruko as his apprentice in chaos, given she'd be around two year younger than him
she doesn't get in trouble bc (assuming this is a different school and everything) the gym coach fukuchi defends her in front of the school staff ALL THE TIME since she's his favorite student
she's surprisingly good at most subjects, except...
m a t h
she screams and throws a full-on tantrum by tossing her math book outside the window then setting it on fire because this girl CANNOT survive variables and constants and graphs and parabolas
fly high, math notebook 😞✊🕊

For the anon who sent an ask about "masculine" and "feminine" traits: I am not going to post your actual ask, mostly because you sent me an over 500 word ask that essentially repeated the exact same sentiments half a dozen times. Instead I will just respond to your claims here.
Your assertion: While some masculine/feminine traits are shaped by culture, most/many are the result of some underlying biological process.
You make this assertion several times, but provide absolutely no evidence to support it. (I will address your specific examples in a moment, but un-sourced examples are not evidence; they're just more assertions.)
While there are some biological differences between men and women, we have no strong evidence that men and women have "different" brains or that any possible differences are correlated with/cause behavioral differences. I'd then ask, if the physical organ associated with behavior (the brain) demonstrates no reliable, significant differences between the sexes, where would the biological differences you claim underlie differences in men's and women's behavior be located?
Your assertion: men are physically stronger than women.
Yes, this is true. On average, males people are physically stronger than female people [1].
This, however, is not a behavioral trait. Men are physically stronger due to real differences in lean muscle mass and fat mass, height, and other physical variables [2].
I'm really not at all sure why you chose this as an example of a "masculine trait" ... it has no bearing on behavioral differences (whether culturally or biological determined) at all.
Your assertion: women are biologically predisposed to be more caring/nurturing. (Rooted in evolutionary biology, because women are the primary caretakers of children, and must therefore be nurturing to be good mothers.)
There is so very much I can say about this. Is the implication here that men are biologically predestined to be bad fathers? Why do you think "evolution" determined male humans would not be as involved with children, when plenty of other male animals are involved with offspring? (And plenty of female animals are not involved?)
However, my biggest point here, is that this is an example of a post hoc fallacy. In other words, "It Ain’t Necessarily So" [3, 4]. This is a fairly common, and unfortunate, fallacy in (popular) evolutionary psychology. (And, to a degree, within the legitimate field as well.)
To try and illustrate this, I ask you: If the opposite outcome had come about, could we also claim that this outcome was "rooted in evolutionary biology"?
The answer is, here, is yes. Consider the following thought experiment:
In some alternate timeline/reality/etc. human's evolutionary ancestors were able to maximize their reproductive success (i.e., increase the survival of both their already-born and yet-to-be-born offspring) by dividing child-care responsibilities into two phases. The first phase, gestating and birthing the offspring was – as a result of biology – entirely the domain of the female ancestor. Most likely, any offspring would remain with the mother for a period of time, to allow for frequent breastfeeding of the infant. However, following this phase, when the child was either weaned or breastfeeding less frequently, the male ancestor took primary responsibility for the child. This division of labor maximized the amount of care provided to any single child, as the father provided continuing resources to older children, while the mother cared for newborns and current pregnancies. Given the frequency of pregnancies at this time and the higher infant mortality ratio, such care was absolutely essential optimizing all offspring's chances of survival, thereby ensuring the propagation of genetic material. As a result, this behavior – women caring primarily for only the youngest children and men for older children – has been embedded into our species' very genetic code.
Okay, so ... obviously this is not what actually happened in history, but this should showcase the primary problem with your "evolutionary biology" argument. It is hypothetically possible to explain almost any trait or behavior in this way; you simply have to come up with a vaguely plausible-sounding series of events. The issue is that these theories are not falsifiable and cannot be used for prediction (at least not in any reasonable time frame).
So, I ask you ... why are women the primary caretaker of children? Why wouldn't (male) caring/nurturing play a role in (female) mate selection? Where is the evidence that this is a biological trait rather than a social one?
Your assertion: women do not have to be feminine and men do not have to be masculine.
Great, yes, we agree on this.
Your assertion: (and your conclusion) feminine and masculine traits were not just "made up".
I don't think that, as you said, "some person one day just made them up", but I do think that these traits were socially constructed. And I haven't found or received any convincing evidence that would suggest otherwise.

Can you do period comfort headcanons with either trans Atsushi or Higuchi with Akutagawa comforting and helping them through it. - 💿 (I forget if this is what I used last time) also I’m drunk sorry if this makes no sense
omg no it makes perfect sense!!! I love this with the flip switched I don't write a lot of caretaker Akutagawa...and trans Atsushi >>>> you're giving me so much new material right now
- At work Atsushi tries So Hard to ignore his pain and he's so bad about taking pain medications too (he's like I don't want to waste any what of it stops hurting in like 30 minutes) but as soon as he gets home he's curled up in bed like a sick cat so so miserable
- Akutagawa is so exasperated with Atsushi it's the same thing every time. Take pain medication use a heating pad don't move around so much take off work if you need too !! Atsushi is always like it's fine I'm okay ill feel better tomorrow..😔😔 Akutagawa is always seconds away from wringing his neck (even though he is a hypocrite)
- I like to imagine Atsushi's tiger qualities bleeding through into everything including this and raising his already hightened temperature so it seems like he's got a high fever when it's really just a low grade one (Akutagawa having a heart attack the first time he gets a reading and it's 106°f)
- with Higuchi it's different because he Tries to be professional and doesn't want to cross any lines and because he's familiar enough with period symptoms because of caring for Gin (or trans Akutagawa) he knows when something's up because Higuchi is trying to mask things as much as humanly possible (taking inappropriate amounts of pain killers like they're candy)
- I also like the idea of him lying about her being off of work or telling her meetings are being called off even when they're not so that she'll go home and rest or at least lay down because she will not quit 😭😭
- There's a communal heating pad in their break room that gets passed around between the two of them and the Black Lizard for various pain related things and Akutagawa will discreetly plug it in for her and leave it on the couch and Higuchi comes in like "this is too convenient for me to ignore...."

When typing long messages, they’d rather spam by breaking the text up into smaller digestible chunks. They use some text faces, using an apostrophe for a nose. (Example included in the typing quirk example.)
About me:
On the outside, Sunny is a natural leader. Honk is able to recognize the talents and abilities of the people around her, and put those skills to good use. Always trying to bring out the best in people around joke, :] loves giving advice and offering up ideas! Honk's also a very caring person, making sure others needs are taken care of, oftentimes putting them before honkself. She likes to joke around and test her new material on others around her! (:] loves performing and putting a smile on everyone’s face!)
But don’t be fooled! Joke’s putting up an act! While everything previously mentioned is true, honk's a bit more timid than she’d like to admit to :]self, often doubting her self worth. She'll try to make sure mistakes don't happen, but when they do, joke mentally beats jokeself up a little. :]'s sure to hide this part of :]self, feeling it's more of a private matter. Honk may have a harder time creating relationships due to the conflict with honk's persona and true feelings, believing that most relationships are shallow. But once you're able to really connect with :], just know you’ve made a relationship that will last you a lifetime!
Basic appearance description:
Brown eyes and long hair that's split-dyed into purple and green, usually worn in low twin ponytails. Usually dressed in clowncore clothes, with a clown nose on their face. (Joke loves her clown nose because it actually honks when you squeeze it!) Sometimes, Noodle paints :]'s face in typical clown fashion, and honk puts on blue eye contacts to complete the look! They're around 5' 4", but they like to wear boots that make them a little taller!
Kintypes: Looey (Dandy’s World)

Typing Quirk Example: Helloooo,, hellooooo!! :’) It’’s such a looooooovely day,, dooontcha think,, dooontcha think?? :’D I might gooo and read a boooook!!
