getting really fucking tired of people who don't know how generative AI works comparing AI "training" to how people learn as an artist because they're jus not even remotely the same thing on any level

artists take inspiration and learn by seeing something, going "I want to do something like that", and practicing that specific thing until they're satisfied with it, while AI are "trained" by force-feeding them five billion images (including literal child pornography, it turns out) to build a statistical model of what certain things "look like"

there's no intentionality to AI - even if you're feeding stable diffusion source pics to tune it, it was already pre-trained on the laion data set - at most you're amplifying noise

just get the concept of people's problem with AI being copyright out of your head, the problem is that it's an inauditable black box that's designed from the ground up to destroy the concept of intentionality in art in order to generate infinite """content""" sludge for capitalists

Listen i love your art very much but with all that has been happening with AI and artists...we writers honestly feel like we might be next, people are already making ais that write stories for them. I understand that this is just for fun for you but thats how ai art started too and now you hear about people devaluing artists n their skill n hard work because suddenly they can make 'art' with a press of their finger so why should they pay for the 'same thing'. Creator to creator, please dont contribute to this mess

so many little games you can play, like absolutely so many, like way more than most other neopets-esque things that are way less complex than neopets and their most complex thing is how many games they have, and like there's so many bangers??? the neopian times, where people submit stories/articles/comics etc, which was one of my first experiences getting my writing out there for other people to read??? so many different lands with so many interesting hilarious quirks to their cultures and histories??? so much amazing-looking food that i will, until the day i die, be devastated aren't real so that i can eat nothing but them for the rest of my life??? so many random little activities you can do, like just absolutely so many and so many shops and features of the website, just so much that i'd never be able to describe it coherently??? and all the neopets themselves??? and all the petpets??? like are you KIDDING me why is neopets so amazing

Relatively random thought but I think the execution of furry open/closed species is Really Bad. Like in theory it could be really cool, the idea of forming communities around a shared love for a creature design is fun but in practice all we get is basically pay-to-win art. Obviously I'm all for people selling their artwork but it's really shitty how we've made character design into elite clubs for no reason.

The funny part though is that art isn't even something you can really regulate. I could make a primagen or whatever if I wanted to. Or I could just give an open species character that rare paywalled trait. Yeah it can't be registered or whatever, why does that matter? Why can't I do what I want? You can't stop me from picking up a pen and paper.

Anyway. I think if I were to ever make a species (which I have honestly always wanted to do lol) I'd make traits more of a suggestion if anything. Like maybe lore-wise having extra wings is a rare trait but I don't care if you give your character some, I'm not your mom or whatever. Yeah rainbow eyes aren't listed in the example eye colors but I'm not going to stop you from having fun. Do what you want forever, I just want to make a little beast that people can base their own funny little guys off of.

I'll always support artists forever but I don't want to support this shit. Art is supposed to be fun! The furry fandom is supposed to be fun! Why have we made communities around limiting that?????? What's the point??????

note for rose : i feel like rose wouldn't initially understand how terrible nfts are so macros cosmos would announce that they're getting into the nft market and get absolutely dragged to hell and back on pelipper (pokétwitter) before issuing a retraction and public apology. he gets why they're bad now, (especially after oleana sat him down and lectured him on how shit nfts are for like 2 hours.)
