Could we maybe… possibly get a snippet of Kate using the card for the first time and everyone calling her Mrs Bridgerton when she in fact is very much not Mrs Bridgerton… yet anyway
The thing is, growing up the Sharma’s were fairly wealthy. Mary’s a huge musician and even that pales in comparison to the way the Bridgertons are living their life.
But I think the first time Kate uses the card she feels kind of nervous, awkward about spending someone else’s money, and she probably only does it because she’s out to lunch with Daphne, Edwina and Sophie and she batted away everyone’s hands when they went to pay and in the hustle of it all she gave them the wrong card. It’s probably only when the server returns the card, the balance already paid that she realises she’s used the wrong card.
“Shit.” Kate sighed, putting the card back with her others.
“Everything alright?” Daphne’s brow furrowed, “I’m happy to split the-”
“It’s fine I just… gave them Anthony’s card. Well, my card, that’s part of Anthony’s… account.” Kate shrugged, “It’s fine, I’ll pay him back.”
“Anthony gave you a credit card?”
Sophie rolled her eyes at Edwina, “Are we surprised? He goes big, you know what he’s got her for her birthday.” She glanced at Daphne, “No offence, obviously.”
Kate’s heart stuttered, remembering the way he’d minimised what looked suspiciously like the Aston Martin website the other day when she’d walked into the living room and his tone on the phone had changed, “What’s he got me for my birthday?”
Daphne ignored Kate shrugging, “No offence taken.” She turned to Kate, “Anthony won’t even notice the charge and you basically live together. It’s not that surprising. Plus, he loves collecting the rewards points for some reason. I think it feels like a game for him from what I can tell.”
Kate shrugged, “It just… feels weird. I’ll pay him back.”
“Good luck with that.” Daphne shrugged, collecting her bag, “Now, we need to brainstorm what the hell I’m going to get Simon for his birthday. I can’t get him another watch because I can’t fucking stand the clicking from all of his stupid… automatic watch winders. Thirty is too many. No one needs to be that aware of the time.”
Kate felt guilty when she got back to Anthony’s as well, Edwina behind her, hiding the bag behind her a little awkwardly. She’d meant to use the card that time, with every intention of paying him back for the frivolous pair of boots in the bag behind her. She found Anthony already home, his slippers on as he geared up to watch the Formula One practice, Newton on the sofa beside him, belly up.
He smiled at her when she bent to kiss the top of his head, “Did you have fun?”
“Yeah, Daphne found Simon’s birthday present so a successful trip.”
He peered round her at the bag, “What did you get?”
Kate swallowed, “Okay, so I bought boots but I’ll pay you back and I’m not even sure I’ll keep them.”
Anthony blinked, “You don’t like them?”
“I love them.”
“Why would you take them back then?”
“Because they were a little expensive and… I don’t really need them? And I also bought lunch but that was an accident and like I said I’ll pay you back.”
Anthony shrugged, “Don’t worry about it.” He kissed her gently, “I’m glad you had fun. I was thinking about ordering takeaway do you want something?”
“Um… yeah?”
Anthony stood from the sofa, kissing her again, “I’ll get the menu.”
Kate stared after him as he disappeared into the kitchen, bewildered, “Don’t you even care how much money I spent?”
“Not really.”
Kate kept gaping after him and Edwina muttered, “You have a sugar daddy.”
Kate rolled her eyes, “He’s not my sugar daddy.”
“You spent… a lot of money today and he didn’t notice! He didn’t even care! And I know what he’s ordered for your birthday.”
Kate groaned, “Is it bad?”
“It’s… a wild gift for a birthday together.”
“Worse than Benedict taking Sophie to Switzerland?”
“Oh way worse.”
“Fuck.”

You are what you are
So if you don't know, Yes this already existed, my old account was deleted (accident but I can tell I won't be getting it back), and am reposting my old x male reader works!
I don't know if I saved all of them but here is one that was saved to my AO3 account.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1
16. Toga needs her big brother, league meets ‘quirkless’ OC
Summary: Toga gets homesick and the group takes her to see her big brother. Domestic League, pairing: ???? also I love the Idea that other times Toga is crazy big sister but when sad/down she is baby
Edit: I looked it up and twice is way older than i thought so for most if not all things I write him in he is 22.
Edit 2: changed big brother to younger brother to fit canon a bit more
Now here is a mini series I never picked back up really, I do think I have part 2 somewhere but eh. Another project I started and dropped (no specific reason)
Dabi x Male reader x Shigaraki
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Toga stared blankly up at nothing. She’s been sitting at the table, resting her head between outstretched arms for most of the day. It worried the fuck out of everyone. Usually when toga’s quiet she’s up to something, but it’s been hours. The only time she even shifted and responded was when twice tentatively sat next to her, asking what was wrong.
She only said nothing and that she was a bit thirsty when he asked if she needed anything. The boys sat at the bar to give her space as she sipped some orange juice. Kurogiri polishing the glass cups, Twice and Dabi watching Toga, and Tomura playing a game on his new switch.
“This shit is giving me hives. Just tell us what your problem is so we can fix it.” Dabi suddenly says standing up from the bar seat. Twice and Kurogiri held their breaths while Tomura continued playing on his game, but did glance over to see her reaction.
“…..I miss my little brother.”
The reactions were immediate. She had everyone’s full attention, occasionally glancing at one another as if to confirm that she actually just said that.
“Usually around this time I would go visit… But with things so tense and us trying to keep it low. I don’t want to bring all our mess to him, he would have a heart attack.” she pouts scratching her cheek sitting up finally. “Especially since he is a civilian and all.”
That definitely shut up any quirk related questions. Toga went on as if she didn’t notice the others questioning everything they assumed about her so far. “I don’t think I told him I became a full on villain. See he lives country side too so wouldn’t see the papers about us.”
“Let’s visit.” Tomura speaks up suddenly, putting the switch down to turn and start showing that he was paying attention.
“We need a break anyway. Think if you call him and ask if he has room, we could stay for a bit?” Toga perks up as Tomura talks excitedly and lets out happy squeals. “Shiggy!! That’s an awesome idea! Wait here!” and with that she rushes out to go get her charging phone.
Taking the silence as not knowing what to do next twice hopped on the opportunity to start freaking out. “SHE HAS A BROTHER?????? Calm the fuck down.”
The others left the anxious man to it, Dabi turning to Tomura in annoyance. “Why exactly are we really going to visit this ‘brother’ of hers? Didn’t take you for the… Visiting family type.”
Tomura hums going back to his own switch, right hand twitch then lightly rubbing his jaw after a look from Kurogiri.
“I’m not. But we are in need of more members, even if quirkless this brother could still be of use to us.” Tomura notes, eyes on the screen. “Plus I’m bored and seeing Toga around a male she hasn’t tried to kill sounds like a fun side quest.”
Letting out a tsk, Dabi looked over to the still freaking out twice but kept his response to himself. It’s not like he had any work to do right away. Taking out his phone he texts his pesky bird he’ll be gone for a bit. They were going to need some new casual clothes.
—————————–Timeskip——————————-
It was always blissfully quiet during this time of day. The countryside is rather peaceful compared to the city side. Which is probably why he was sent here to begin with. But he wouldn’t complain much, after all the house he got was pretty sweet.
A two story cottage house surrounded by a cute metal fence, with its own large front and back garden. The woods not far from the back and not long after his first stay did he find an outdoor onsen.
At 11 am on the clock it was like the world at large was napping. With the warm summer air and singing from restless cicadas. Michi hummed softly as he finished up cleaning and airing out his decent size collage home. He made his way outside to go water the front garden excitedly.
“It’s been awhile since Himi-chan came to visit, and with some friends.” Michi mumbles to him and his plants. The heat may be getting to him a bit but he was wearing the lightest clothes he had; well that wasn’t underwear. A loose soft blue tank top and patterned pineapple swim trunks.
Losing himself in thoughts of what they could be like and when to start lunch, Michi didn’t notice time passing till he heard the distant sounds of a vehicle coming from down the road. Hearing the vehicle stop snaps him out of it, curiously hearing what seems to be the tail ends of an argument.
“I told you taking the left turn would get us here! Now we’re late!”
“Stop yelling at kuro, he was just following the gps.”
“Why!? I know-”
“Toga?”
Peeking over the front hedge, Michi sucks in an excited breath completely zoning in on Toga as soon as he sees her. “TOTO-NEE” he shouts, racing over and lifting her up into a tight hug laughing.
He obviously startled her but just as quickly she hugged back hard, laughing for once in absolute happiness that didn’t involve killing someone.
While talking her up and after seeing how big she’s grown, Michi kept an eye on her group of friends. The first to grab his attention being a tall seemingly male with mists as their head and hands, dressed in a full on casual suit.
A flag pops into Michi’s head, then even more as he continues looking over the others; taking mental notes.
‘Mist form- cloud quirk? teleportation?, Casual suit. Most wary of.
Stables and burnt skin- fire quirk, sleeveless jacket and leather pants. Could be a problem
Full on mask, white t-shirt and jean jacket- unknown quirk, maybe face related. Super suspicious.
Dry skin and specialty gloves- touch related quirk?, Black shirt and long red coat (little red riding hood), not immediately suspicious but still be wary’
Smoothly Michi turned his full attention back to Toga. He really did miss her a lot, seeing her in person was a bit of a shock. Not wanting to go down that depressing road he grins and squishes Togas cheeks. Toga squawks and pouts flailing her arms in protest but he can hear the laughter in her tone. “Mimiiiiiiii!!!!”
—————————-
It was weird. The boys all mentally agreed. Seeing toga act like a ‘normal’ girl was fucking weird. And her brother seemed so normal in comparison. 5’7 with lean muscle, dark skin, familiar ash blonde hair and yellow eyes. No hints of underline bloodlust or killing intent.
There was nothing about this brother that hinted that he’s even been to the city. A sort of country bumpkin aura too him. His posture was relaxed, open and easy to read. His attention was so focused on Toga, that they each weren’t sure if the man noticed them just standing there with their luggage.
“Oh! Is this them?” Michi asks, finally turning his head in their direction. Away from a pouting Toga who clung to his arm. Giving the boys a soft welcoming smile.
'Oblivious.’ They each thought, with the way this man was acting he had no clue that they were real villains. Michi figured it out as soon as he hugged toga immediately and smelled fresh blood on her sweater. Finally Kurogiri and Tomura stepped forward with a slight bow, establishing to the blonde who the leaders of the group were. “My name is Tomura, this is Kurogiri, Dabi, and Twice.”
Dabi and twice stepping forward to show who was who. Twice going a bit extra by giving Michi an awkward deep bow. while Dabi’s blank stare was dripping with mischief, Toga gave him a smile full of warnings.
Michi chuckled, raising an eyebrow at the whole thing. Waiting till toga excitedly let go, running to the house. Michi hums and just for a second gave each and every one of them a calculated look. Immediately the boys tense surprised by the change of atmosphere.
“Michi Toga. I do hope you all have been taking good care of my big sister, I wouldn’t want this ‘vacation’ of yours to end with me draining you dry.”
Given how Toga’s quirk works, they all can guess what type of threat the man was making. Tomura looked unbothered but he was standing up straighter, Kurogiri stepped a bit more in front of Tomura. Dabi’s eyes narrowed and Twice looked between the 4 staring down each other.
“Michi- chan give me a tour!!” Hearing that Michi sighed playfully exasperated. Turning and starts heading towards the house. “Come on boys, you all can get settled while I start on dinner.” Inwardly he smirks ‘cute.’ leaving them to their thoughts.
“We’re screwed. Who does that quirkless asshole think he is. Do you think he’s onto us?” Twice asks as if that wasn’t obvious enough.
—————————————————-
heh this took longer than I expected, writing these characters verses imagining the prompt is definitely a fun challenge. So is going from docs to tumblr, the sync is weirdddd
Anyway Part 2 is in the future but so is a brewing male reader x hawks prompt.

Headcanon:
Despite Zim’s trial showing so much evidence of Zim being defective and the damage he’s done to the Empire, Zim was never criminally charged for any of it. And not just because the Control Brains went crazy.
Going in chronological order, Horrible Painful Overload Day. Zim was never charged for causing the blackout, both in the present day and when he was a smeet, because Horrible Painful Overload Day was sort of inevitable. It was declared to be the fault of the engineers who built the smeetery tubes not accounting for the possibility of something getting stuck in the tubes.
It’s generally accepted among Irkens that experienced the blackout that if Zim hadn’t tried to climb back up the tube, someone else would have, which would have resulted in the same blackout because no one ever accounted for what would happen if a smeet tried to climb back up the tube or what would happen if a smeet got stuck in the tube on their initial way down.
It’s a similar thing with Horrible Painful Overload Day 2. Zim may have been the direct cause of the blackout, but it was declared the fault of the engineers who worked on Irk’s power grid for leaving such a glaring weakness in the planet’s entire power grid.
One basic security droid with basic weapons was able to wipe out a central part of Irk’s power grid in just a few shots, and even though it was Zim and Skoodge that pissed it off, the engineers were the ones that built that central part of the grid, made it weak and defenceless, put it in an obvious and unprotected place on Irk’s surface and didn’t build any backup systems in case of an emergency. It was a disaster waiting to happen.
Even though Horrible Painful Overload Day 2 left Irk relying on its backup generators for four years as Irk’s power grid was not only repaired, but completely restructured, most irken architects and engineers consider themselves extremely lucky that Zim caused the blackout when he did. Because without Zim causing the blackout, no one would have ever found out about that weak point in the power grid and it would never have been fixed. Imagine how bad it would be if Irk was ever attacked and they still had that weak point. Someone could cut off 90% of Irk’s power supply with barely any effort.
Then, the Blob Incident. Should be obvious, Zim literally caused the death of a Tallest, but it’s obvious in the footage from his trial that it wasn’t intentional. Zim didn’t mean to unleash the blob, he didn’t mean for it to mix with the perpetual energy machine, and he didn’t mean for it to eat Tallest Miyuki. It was an accident, and no proof can be found that says otherwise. Zim was not criminally charged.
Zim’s military training didn’t have much that could count as criminal offences. Just a large amount of times where he was too destructive.
Spork’s death was completely out of Zim’s control. There was nothing he could do to stop it. Plus it’s still unknown if the Blob actually came back of its collar or if it was a coincidence that it showed up. After all, that graduation ceremony did have a LOT of different energy sources that the Blob could absorb and it was definitely starving and searching for something it could eat after it digested the perpetual energy machine it initially ate to the point of it no longer working.
Either way, Zim couldn’t be criminally charged. Zim never knew that the Blob would come back for its collar and didn’t even know that the Blob was smart enough to do that. And if the Blob wasn’t seeking out it’s collar but was instead just searching for food, that makes Zim even more innocent, as the Blob would have attacked the station and eaten Spork regardless of if Zim was there. And either way, Zim had no way of knowing that the Blob was coming.
Zim actually WAS criminally charged for Operation Impending Doom 1, but he already served his sentence. Or actually IS CURRENTLY serving his sentence. Foodcourtia was his sentence, and after he was exiled to Earth, Earth became his sentence. The Control Brains can’t criminally charge someone for a crime they’re currently serving time for.

Katsuya Serizawa headcanons
Ex shut-in has entered the chat ☂️
Warnings ⚠️- mention of skin picking.
When he was still a shut-in, he would constantly pick at his fingers whenever he would start to feel anxious. Pretty soon after he'd lose control of his powers. Picking worked for awhile to calm him down, at least for a few minutes. After awhile it just became a habit.
You can not tell me that he was a Toichiro fanboy. He did anything this man asked him, and thought he was the coolest person he has ever met.
When he first joined Claw he tried really hard to make friends. I feel like he tried giving them some sort of gift? He'd be too nervous to give it in person so he would just leave it somewhere where'd they find it.
After joining Reigen and them, he started baking. At first it was an accident, Mob wanted to suprise Ristu with a birthday cake! Reigen was in charge of distancting Ristu and Katsuya offered to bake the cake. Surprisingly, the cake came out amazing! He was really suprised and slowly but surely started to get into baking.
Reigen definitely makes him bake cupcakes so he can sell them to their clients. How else will you exorcise the spirit that possess your food?! These spirit cleanser cupcakes are the only way! For only 25.99
He definitely go on cases with Reigen so Mob doesn't have to. He wants Mob to have as much free time as possible! Plus Reigen doesn't mind as much.
He refuses to use an umbrella. It just reminds him of how things were.
He sometimes writes to Toichiro to see how things are going. He felt really bad for what happened... Hearing that he's reconnecting with his wife and son really made him happy! He wanted to throw him a party but Reigen told him that the "power hungry eyebrow guy" doesn't deserve a free party. So he just called him.
He cuts his own hair! He really likes how short it looks so he keeps it like that.
Before he went back to school because he has no formal education he definitely asked Ristu for some advice on what to do for his first day. He got a bunch of stationery and books, he went a little overboard but he was kind of excited!
Tome definitely makes alien/space jewellery for everyone. Katsuya wears everything she makes for him!
He only wears suits. Whenever he has to go out in public he's wearing a suit.
I feel like he goes to every event Tome, Mob and Ristu have. From sport festival to talent show. He's supporting them all!
His new apartment is spotless. When he was still living with his mother, his room was never really clean. Now he makes sure his place is spotless.
He doesn't really sleep well. Since he's so use to staying up during the night, it's kind of difficult to sleep at night. His eyebags are here to stay.
a/n - I hope you guys enjoyed! Surprisingly this isn't just a haikyuu account I mean... It kind of is but nevermind that!! This is a bit short but I'll start writing more about mp100. Thanks for reading!! <3

So You’re Not Dead
Chapter 1:
Absolute No Chill
You were just going about the day like normal. Going to work as usual like it was any other day and technically it is. It is tomorrow that is the important day. At midnight tonight you may or may not, depending if your soulmate is younger then you or not, know who your soulmate is. It was overly exciting to you, so much could go wrong plus if you ever meet you would have to explain why your name isn’t Y/N Y/L/N, and you really didn’t want to get into that like ever again. The day went by completely ordinary, and even though you weren’t ecstatic you couldn’t help but watch the clock as it ticked by. You watch as it hits midnight officially becomes your original birthday. Waiting a little bit afterwards you try to figure out if you felt any different, and found you didn’t. No big moment, no celebration, and no one there. Just you in your bedroom of your decently nice apartment debating on whether you want to look at your wrist or not. You can’t stop yourself as you grab the nearest cloth you could find, a purple and black bandana, and wrap it around your wrist without looking. Walking to your desk you pull out a paper.
Hey Mama,
It’s your baby again. I miss you so much. It’s my 21st birthday mama. I got my soulmate’s name on my wrist maybe and it scares me. So much could go wrong with it. I will already have to explain I am in “Hero Protective Services”. That’s gonna be fun because I don’t think I technically should know my real name from the heroes point of view. Yay. Mama what if they are a villain? I’d be just like Papa wouldn’t I then? You and Papa were so happy though. Mama what if they’re a hero? I don’t think I could handle that. People’s 21 birthdays are suppose to be fun and exciting, mine isn’t going to be. I may look and see but what if like they’re in Japan while I am here in America. That wouldn’t work. Am I stressing this too much? They could literally be nobody just some random person I will meet eventually. I hope that’s the case. Think I am gonna look.
You take a deep breathe then take of the bandana and look down.
Touya Todoroki
Keigo Tamaki
You just stare at your wrist in utter shock. Two names were written there and in different color just to make sure you knew they were two different people. It almost makes you forgot the fact that you are staring at two Japanese names. Groaning loudly you go back to writing your mom.
So I not only have one but two soulmates who are Japanese! Hooray! Multiple soulmates isn’t a novelty but I just didn’t think I would be part of a threesome. I barely can picture myself with on other person, mama. Maybe I should look them up just to see if I can find anything. Hey maybe one of them is dead. Sorry really bad joke.
So that’s what you do. You grab your lab top and open google.

Touya Todoroki death was an accident
You feel like a complete and utter asshole. Cause you definitely didn’t mean your dark comment. You’re just fucked up a little bit, but never would you actually wish for someone to be dead much less a complete stranger. You didn’t know if you wanted to look up the other one.

The fucking irony of the only sign of her other soulmate is a villain. God what did she do to deserve this? Is this punishment for lying to the Heroes Comission? If so she still doesn’t feel bad
One of them is dead and I am a shitty person. The other is maybe a villain or maybe a villain’s kid. Cause the villain I did find is kinda old for me. Funny how we are all connect by Endeavor. Like honestly fuck that guy. Taking Papa from us. Taking you from me. God I miss you Mama. I try everyday to be normal, to not make to much noice and just live my life, but it’s hard. Not with what I know, what I have been through. Love you Mama.
You decide that your soulmate situation isn’t actually your problem if you don’t let it be. So here on out those names don’t exist to you. You’ll live a normal life by yourself. And be happy doing it.

"No changes can be made without the account holder"
This family member's spouse passed was involved in an accident that left them critically injured. They were in ICU for months and would face permanent disability upon returning home. They didn't want to leave their home, it was close to the best hospital in the region and it was their "forever home", so plans began to renovate it for accessibility. In addition to the renovations, a wheelchair van was going to be needed along with other medical equipment for home use.
As she worked on all of this, it was clear that large expenditures were going to be needed and it was going to take time to draw money out of long-term savings and retirement accounts. So she called the credit card companies to get their limit increased. Sadly, before the renovations were complete, her spouse passed away after almost 6 months of hospitalization and therapy. Now attention turned to final arrangements. The couple had always been very frugal and maintained nearly perfect credit. All cards were being paid on time, and despite carrying a balance on some cards from the construction (demolition had already started so renovations had to continue - but at a slower pace) money was now coming in from those long term savings.
The problem is one major credit card company refused to work with her. She tried to access the account and was told "Sorry, I have to speak the account holder." She explained that her spouse had passed away and she was wanting to pay what was left on the card, she also explained that she was an account holder. Evil Bank stated that she was not on the account, she was a mere card holder and she had no rights to the account. The person on the phone explained that her husband opened the account without her and just gave her the card, she "just didn't understand how credit cards worked."
This was a lie, the couple had always been joint account holders on everything since they were first married for exactly this reason. They had done extensive estate planning and made sure that all their assets were protected in trusts should the worst occur; they knew their kids would be cared for and their partner would be able to access everything. Also, she ran the couple's business for over a decade, navigating a sea of regulations, insurance company billing, and payroll/finances/taxes. Needless to say, she did not enjoy being condescended to.
Unfortunately, Evil Bank would not budge. They would not allow any access to the account for any reason, but for some reason they didn't cancel the card after finding out the sole account holder had passed away. This back-and-forth went on for weeks with multiple calls to the Evil Bank and trying to escalate the issue to supervisors to address the state of the account.
In a final attempt to show Evil Bank that they were hurting themselves by this:
"So I'm unable to access any part of the account, even to make a payment?"
Evil Bank: "That's right."
"So the account is going to be closed?"
Evil Bank: "No, only the Account Holder can do that."
"Even though the account holder is dead?"
Evil Bank: "Only the account holder, ma'am."
"So what does that mean for card holders and being able to charge on the account."
Evil Bank: "Only the account holder can deactivate a card or modify the account."
"So what happens if a card holder uses their card."
Evil Bank: "They can continue to use the card until the Account Holder tells us otherwise."
"The deceased account holder."
Evil Bank: "Yes. I can't help you with anything else, you need to put the account holder on the phone if you want to change anything or make a payment.
"No, that's fine."
She broke down crying immediately after, but decided that they set the rules, so she would play by them.
All the final expenses, medical bills, and as much construction cost as possible was put onto that credit card. She maxed it out and then let it sit until the credit card company started calling for payment.
"I'm sorry, per your policy, I'm just the card holder and I'm not responsible for any balance."
"Ma'am, this balance needs to be paid or it will affect your credit."
"It better not, I'm not on the account. This is an illegal collections call and I will be reporting it to the FTC and the Attorneys General in your home state and mine. I still have his number on speed dial. You can make your case to the court." (She was used to getting medical insurance companies to pay claims for the last decade or so; you didn't want to play hardball with her.)
Remember how all the assets were in trusts? On paper, her partner had no assets to place a lien on; all the cash in the joint checking account had been used to pay expenses for the last several months and withdrawals from long term savings were sent to her account, not the joint account. They had agreed to move all exposed assets shortly after her partner regained consciousness, fearing the worst. Plus, all the income from the business had been brought home in her name for more than a decade so she would actually get some kind of Social Security payment when she got older. So not only did his estate have no assets to go after, he didn't have an "income" for the last decade!
Evil Bank was left with a maxed out credit card and no assets in the estate they could file against for payment. The handful of other credit cards companies worked with her to raise limits temporarily or remove daily spending caps for large expenditures - and they were all paid without a single missed, late, or partial payment. Evil Bank had to eat a 5-figure loss - all because they decided that The Wife didn't deserve to be on the account from day 1.
She had every intention to pay every bill and expense, she has never been one to try to scam or cheat someone. She gave Evil Bank every chance to accept money for the bill - they repeatedly refused to acknowledge her as a spouse or executor -- but she sure liked the irony of the only company that refused to acknowledge the death of her spouse ended up paying for the funeral expenses.

A Slice of Happiness Part 1
Including Jane Paker @altairtalisman and mention of Amalia of Cleves @pandora-dusk
T/W: Mild Language
It was an early evening when Ann and Jane were standing in front of an upscale italian restaurant near West End of London. Ann was telling Jane that one of her customers told her about this place and how supposedly they had really good food. She also told her that she been wanted to check it out, but didn't want to go alone, because she doesn't like the feeling having people staring at her as she ate alone and was little scare on coming since it was close to the theatre. Jane already knew Ann situation understood that and took her on the offer, if she was willing to pay saying this in a joking matter, which Ann accepted it. Jane explain to her that she was kidding and said she would done it without her doing that, but Ann told Jane that she was the one who invited her and was going to pay for it to begin with. Jane soon admit defend and let her pay for it. They soon walk inside the building and enjoy their meal.
Once they were done with their meal, Jane said " At least your customer was right about the food. It was great and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the invite." Ann replied back " It was nothing. I'm glad you like it. Maybe you can take Mali here one of these days for a date." This made Jane blush a little as she thought about them having a date here and how Mali would enjoy it. Jane smiled and said " I think I will, once we find the time to do so. " Ann then told Jane " I will give you guys money to pay for it. It's the least I do for ruining your guys date." Jane protested and explained to Ann " Ann, we talk about this. I don't blame you for what happen back then. The others think the same thing too. It was an accident and it could of happen to anyone. Plus you manage to calm yourself down once we were in the car for good amount of time and the others still enjoy their date in the end. Stop beating yourself up for it." Ann would like to believe Jane that it was alright, but she still feel awful on what happen. She thought she could handle it since she was with friends, but it just bought back bad memories of her past and how she vulnerable she still was.
The waiter soon came by and handed them the check folder. Ann took the check, look at cost on the bill inside it, pull out some cash of her jacket pocket, and put inside the check folder as they wait for waiter to come back. Jane still gets little amazed whenever she see Ann pulls out a stack of bills and how she treats it like this was normal. She remembered when she found out how well off Ann was when they went clothes shopping and Ann didn't seem to care how much it cost when the total came up. Ann did explain the reason why to Jane on the way home and Jane learn somethings about Ann and her way of thinking. Jane, in some way, admire Ann on how she hasn't fallen into temptation and lose herself, unlike other people who lose themselves into corruption or greed due to how much money they have. The waiter did come back to pick up the folder on the table and head to a register to pay out the bill.
As they were waiting, they heard a fellow patron yelling at table behind them " What do you mean it can't take my card? I told you that I have the funds to pay for it, what is it you can't understand?" Both Ann and Jane slowly turn their head just enough to see what was going on. They see an frustrated older man raising his voice at a scared young waitress. She try to stay calm and explain to the man in nervous tone " As I said earlier, we can't accept your card because out card machine is down and only taking cash. We have it posted as soon as you walk in and the hosts told you this also." The man looking more annoyed and told the waitress " How is that my problem? I only have cards with me. Who carries cash with them, anyway? You either going to accept my card or my meal will be free." Ann and Jane slowly moved their head back to their table and cringe at the scene of rudeness and entitlement. It's true they use to be nobility in their past life, but they can't ever recall being straight up jerks to people, even to least fortunate. Jane doesn't really encounter this much, but Ann does due to her job. Ann would see this at her shop once in a while and would of shut them down as soon as it happens. She would said something by now, but she didn't want to get involved and want to leave, so she and Jane can go home. Their waiter soon came back and hand them the check folder to show their bill was paid. Ann took the receipt and change, but left a few bills in the folder to give as a tip, put in her pocket, and they both got up from the table.
As this was happening, the manger of the restaurant came to older man table and ask him " Hello there, what seems to be the problem?" The man replied " Yes, there is. As I was telling your useless employee, I don't have cash with me and only have cards to pay for my bill, but she not take my payment. Something about the machine being down, which by the way is very inconvenient. So I told her that you guys either accept my card or walking out of here with a free meal." The manger listen to the man complain and wait until he was done talking to answer him " What my employee said is correct. Our card machine is down, which we are sorry for. We did post signs in front of the doors and inform the host about this to tell our customer about it. I'm sorry about the inconvenience, but as we stand now we only taking cash. If you are so adamant on using your card, I would be gladly take it, make paper copy of it, and manually type it into the system, so you do get charged." This cause the man to get really upset and cause him to stand up pushing the chair back to yell at the manager "Like hell I'm going to let you do that without me watching you guys put it in. I know for a fact you using this sad excuse to steal my card information, so you can charge me whatever amount. Nice try though. I'm going to take my stuff and leave here with a free meal."
Unknown to the older man that when he push the chair back, he cause a younger waiter carrying a dessert trip on the leg of the chair and send it flying to air, which end up hitting the side of Ann's face. Jane was in complete shock when she saw this and Ann just stand there as the plate fall on the floor. Ann pick up the plate and place it on the table, then she grab whatever dessert on her face with a napkin leaving some still on her and putting on the plate. She turn head to look at the young waiter on the ground with apologize look on his face expecting him to get yell at, but she knew it wasn't his fault this happen. She turn her head to the older man who was ready to leave and when she yell in angry tone " Hey asshole." This cause the man stop and everyone in the restaurant to look at them. Ann walk to the the man and continued "You think it okay to just assaulted someone and leave here without paying. What is wrong with you?" The man was took back this, but responded to Ann " What in the hell are you talking about? I didn't do a damn thing to you. You should be take this up with the dumb waiter who threw food at you." Ann was getting more irritated by this man and said " Well, maybe if you didn't decide to push your chair back while you were having a tantrum about not giving them your card to pay, he wouldn't have trip and fall, which cause this to happen." The man then spoke "Do you not know...." Ann interrupt him " I don't give a damn who the hell you are. All I see is that you're a entitled jerk who here trying to get free food because you didn't read the clearly mark sign on the doors or listen to the host when they told you this as you sat down and now you're blaming people due to it. Well, here some news for you, nobody here think you are in the right to treat the staff like this, especially since this was your fault. Now you have two choices, you either going to hand the manger your card to pay for your meal or I'm going to call the authorities and let you be charge with theft and assault. It's your choice." The man grumble, pull out his card, and gave to the manger. The manger then grab old credit card imprinter, made a paper copy in front of the man, gave the card back, and went to the back to type it into the system. While waiting, Jane help the young waiter off the floor, ask them if he okay, and walk next to Ann. She hasn't seen Ann this upset before and wonder what going to happen next. The manger soon came back, hand the receipt and the paper copy to the older man, he put in his pocket, and left the restaurant with angry look on this face.
Once the man left, Ann turn to the manger and waitress and said in a sincere voice" I'm sorry for disturbing your restaurant and ruining the experience for your customers. I take full responsibility for it and accept the punishment for it, but please don't hold my friend accountable. She just a innocent person in this and didn't know about I plan." Jane felt like Ann shouldn't get in trouble for what happen and was ready to defend her, but the manger spoke in a calm tone" In any normal circumstances I would of kick you out and ban you on coming back, but seeing as he started this, insulted my staff, and did unintentionally attack you. I could let this slide, but I don't want you do something like that again here. Do I make myself clear?" Both Jane and Ann nodded and said " Yes" The manger then told Ann "Also I like to say thank you for standing up for my staff. I know people sometimes don't appreciate them, but it's nice to see when people do care about them." The manger did ask the waitress if she okay and she smiled showing them she was okay. The manger soon said as the restaurant went back to normal " If you excuse me, I will take my left. I would like to say I'm sorry you got caught in this mess and got dirty from it. I would of comp your meal in some way, but see that you guys were on your way out. There really not much I do, but I can give this card and when you guys do come again, just show your waiter this and I will personally reduce the prices on your meals, how does that sound?" Ann would normally not accept this, since it goes against what she was taught, but she decided to accept it, the manger gave her the card, and when on their way to check on the staff involved. Jane and Ann soon left the restaurant and went on their way home.
As Ann was walking with Jane to her apartment, Ann try to hand Jane the card and said " Here. You can take Mali to the place next time you guys have a chance. " Jane try to protect, but Ann explained " Look Jane, I know you told me not worry about what happen on your date, but it still bothers me that I kind of ruin it. So please accept this? It would show at least I try." Jane couldn't resist Ann pled since she know Ann wasn't going to drop it, so she took the card and put in her pocket as they continue walk. They soon got to Jane's place and ready to say their goodbye when Jane ask " Hey Ann, you could come inside and wash off the remain food crumbs still on you?" Ann shook her head and said " Thanks for the offer, but I need to go home, so I can wash my hair out completely to remove whatever that food was and wash my jacket as well, especially since it has a strong smell to alcohol to it. I wonder what was that dessert anyway?" Jane walk up to Ann, stick one of fingers out to wipe off one of the food crumbs on Ann's jacket, took a sniff of it, and recognized the smell. Jane then answer her as she clean her finger with a cloth" If I took guess by the smell and what it look like in the restaurant, I would say it was tiramisu." Ann looked confused and Jane then remembered that Ann wasn't familiar with sweets. Jane explained " Sorry, I forgot you not a sweet person. It's an Italian dessert where it has ladyfingers dipped in coffee that layer with whipped mascarpone cheese, egg, sugar, and had powder cocoa. Sometimes they put liquor in it for a extra kick. Mali and I had try some before. It was really good. I think you may like it, since it isn't that sweet." Ann listen to Jane and though of maybe trying it out. Ann nodded and said " Well, I better get going. See you later then." They soon part ways and Ann head home to get herself clean up from tonight mess and get ready for work tomorrow.

Is it true that Gorbachev never supported Valery Legasov? Did he have a "court" as they say, or did he realize that Legasov was an expert one should listen to?
Thank you for a great ask, Comrade! 💜💛💚 And please forgive me for such a belated answer! And the same goes to all the authors of all the other anon asks I received but have yet to answer - I deeply value each and every one of them and promise to respond to them very soon!
I do think that David Dencik’s Gorbachev, though not without charm, comes across as this kind of annoyed and needy monarch in the show. The real Gorbachev, with all his shortcomings, was a lot warmer - in a folksy kind of way - and much more personable. Look at this photo for example, of a room from which the Politburo meeting room was modeled in the show, and how Gorbachev sits together with the rest of the members, and not at the head table like a king:
And as to your question more directly - I actually have just the kind of a fascinating text here that I think, will speak for itself as far as the extent to which Gorbachev listened to and trusted Valery Legasov. The text is a transcript of the Politburo meeting that took place in the morning of May 5th in 1986 - merely a week after the accident. It actually is kind of a riveting read - a glimpse into how all those decisions had to be made in real time, with only meager - and constantly changing - information available.
I wanted everyone to enjoy it, so I translated the discussion section from Russian (please see below).
Legasov really shines in this meeting and one can easily see just how much respect he instills in people around him. There is a rather amazing passage where Legasov voices his disagreement with Velikhov’s plan on how to drain the water from under the reactor. Gorbachev immediately takes Legasov’s side and approves his plan. He then sends Shcherbina out of the room during the meeting to make an immediate phone call to Chernobyl to instruct them to ditch Velikhov’s plan and start implementing Legasov’s. That was my favorite part.
Legasov also consistently sounds like the calmest person in the room. Just calmly and intelligently doing his job, solving what is essentially a scientific problem. Even from the transcript it is easy to extrapolate how much respect he commands around the table.
I took the liberty to include some of my own notes/comments in the translation as well. And I am happy to answer any questions I can!

SHCHERBINA: We found ourselves in front of a situation that has not been considered before, which is why there hasn’t been any protocols in place for this type of an occurrence. The very project itself is built upon never allowing such a situation. There was an uncontrollable speeding up of the reactor. Immediately after the accident, there has been a lack of preparedness on-site to evaluate the situation. The Civil Defense did not warn people. Until the evening there were weddings being held in the city. The fire had to be smothered as soon as possible, and the radioactive fallout had to be reduced. 4 thousand tonnes of materials have been dumped at the reactor. We were able to knock the surface temperature down from 500 to 200 degrees. What shall we do beneath the reactor? People have approached the pool. It is possible that there is an opportunity now to release the water.
LIGACHEV: Don’t get ahead of yourself.
RYZHKOV: We’ll need to see about that. The most important thing is to avoid the explosion.
SHCHERBINA: The most difficult thing is deactivation.
(Note: Deactivation refers to the clean-up and burial of contaminated soil and water, etc - LSW)
GORBACHEV: The most important is to deal with the danger that is below.
SHCHERBINA: People are working selflessly.
(Note: It seems like they might all be talking over each other in an agitated manner. Wish we could hear a recording of this - LSW)
LEGASOV: The work is organized the following way: Comrade Shcherbina is in charge of organizing, Comrade Meshkov studies the reasons of the accident and I work on recommendations regarding prevention of the further spread of the fallout. There are also groups in Moscow conducting the analysis.
(Note: Legasov truly shines here, stepping in calmly and intelligently to get the discussion back on track. - LSW)
The considerations regarding prevention of the consequences of the accident that are being voiced in the West should be taken into account. These aren’t just guesswork, but a result of studies, conducted with other past NPP accidents taken into account. We had to do all the calculations on site, because we didnt have any established protocols in place.
GORBACHEV: Plus in this case, there is water under the reactor.
LEGASOV: This was done to save money, otherwise one would have to build two separate buildings. Minsredmash did not agree with that. If we had 4-5 pipes that would be stretched away from the reactor and into some distance, this would not have been a problem. This is a miscalculation of everyone working in the energy industry.
GORBACHEV: What about the containment structures?
LEGASOV: Considering the force of the explosion that took place, a containment structure would not have saved anything.
GORBACHEV: We need to focus on what comes next.
LEGASOV: 10 hours later, we were able to stop the reactor. But it continues to emit radioactivity, because after a year of being in operation, it has accumulated a lot of isotopes. The heat output of those debris has been 14 megawatt in the first 24 hours, while today it is 8.5 megawatt. This is like burning 60 tons of coal every 24 hours. Besides that, graphite is burning, too. There is 2.5 thousand tons of graphite there in total. One ton burns up every hour. This equals 24 tons per day. The graphite will burn up completely in one-third of a year.
The number one task is to create a way of filtering out the radioactive isotopes. Right now the amount of them that gets emitted into air is 100-fold less than there would be without taking measures to drop sand and other materials on the reactor from the air. The area located in the vicinity of the reactor has been sacrificed, because dumping the materials from the height of 200 meters raised dust, which increased radioactivity near the power plant.
Currently, the mass that has been melted in the reactor is moving downward. This is difficult to control, because there hasn’t been monitoring devices installed that would allow doing that. This is my fault, too. But, not a single NPP in the world has something like that.
(Note: Remarkably, Legasov accepts blame for something he hasn’t even designed. Only that he hasn’t voiced his concern about this highly improbable scenario. Or maybe he did but doesn’t think he did it strongly enough? - LSW)
On the first day after the accident, the temperature of the melted mass was 1100 degrees, while yesterday at 18:00 it was 20 degrees. It goes up by 135 degrees every day.
(Note: “20 degrees” is clearly a typo and should say ~2000 degrees, as a quick calculation can confirm: 1100 + 135 x 7 days = 2045 degrees. - LSW)
Last night, an experiment was conducted: the melted mass fell into water, and there hasn’t been an explosion. However, if the melted mass from the reactor reaches the water below, there will be powerful formation of steam.
The situation continues to be troubling. The reactor needs to be cooled from below. An underground tunnel needs to be created, and liquid nitrogen needs to be delivered via it. In 2-3 days, we need to allow the circulation of air. Yesterday, there were no air drops to enable the draft.
Regarding the potentially dangerous zone. It cannot be larger than 250 kilometers. Within which the active zone would be 30-50 kilometers. Our institute has previously considered a “Backstop” scenario, concerning this problem. So we have exact calculations on that account.
GORBACHEV: What would happen if the fuel reaches the ground water?
LEGASOV: This is where Velikhov and I could not find common ground. The pool needs to be emptied of water by pumping, not by shooting at it to pour it out.
GORBACHEV (to SHCHERBINA): We should let the site know, so they don’t shoot at it.
(Comrade SHCHERBINA steps out)
LEGASOV: And as for adding the concrete layer, that’s the final operation.
GORBACHEV: What about the remaining three blocks?
LEGASOV: The first two are in working condition. Barring another explosion, they will be fine. As for the third block, it might catch fire if there is another emergency.
GORBACHEV: Should we invite the foreigners? We shouldn’t do it in vain. But if we have to, then don’t be deterred by it.
LEGASOV: We were shown the cipher telegrams regarding this. Only two things were unknown to us: the French foam and the remote controlled robots from West Germany. So there is no need to send a general SOS message, whereas all the ideas originating overseas should be sent to the group for consideration.
RYZHKOV: If the strategy with pumping the water out via a pipe works, can the same pipe be used to pump the liquid nitrogen in?
LEGASOV: Yes. But it doesn’t cancel out the idea of a tunnel.
RYZHKOV: We should do both.
SHCHERBINA: I was just informed that the water pumping has begun.
(Note: looks like Shcherbina returned to the room after calling the site with this information. So, within this brief time span, Velikhov’s plan of shooting at the bubbler pool (with some sort of a projectile?) was rejected and Legasov’s idea was not only approved by Gorbachev, but actually started being implemented in real time. Amazing. - LSW)
(Note: another interesting takeaway is that they were arranging to bring Joker from West Germany way earlier than it was portrayed in the series. - LSW)
ALEXANDROV: Legasov reported everything correctly. Regarding the foreign assistance: it would be good to bring doctors who specialize in bone marrow transplants.
ALIEV: This type of a specialist is already working.
(Note: this must be Robert Gale. - LSW).
LIGACHEV: Is there a possibility of a chain reaction?
ALEXANDROV: There is. But not an explosion, i.e. a momentary process. But there would be major steam generation.
SLAVSKY: Our Ministry is participating in limiting the consequences of the accident. My first deputy is there on site. One of the reasons for what has happened is that the Atomnadzor (Note: a nuclear watchdog/inspection agency - LSW) has done zero work. What is being done right now is correct. No further suggestions.
BREZHNEV (minister of transport infrastructure): Together with Comrades Shchadov and Usanov we went on site yesterday to survey the situation with approaching the water through drilling. The start of pumping is eased by its location. After the pumping, one must start pumping the clay-concrete mix. The drilling is complicated by the fact that the reactor cannot be approached to a distance closer than 250 meters. We have arranged with the military for them to deactivate the area so we could approach to a closer distance, 50 meters.
GORBACHEV: We should be picking up the pace. We should be working not only as if this was a wartime situation, but a nuclear one - around the clock.
RYZHKOV: Comrade Brezhnev should return on site and organize this work.
GORBACHEV: Yes.
GROMYKO: What’s the percentage of the fallout that enters the atmosphere?
LEGASOV: The SO is exceeded 22-fold. There will be zirconium. First, there was iodine coming out, and now it’s the rare earth minerals. The zone in the radius of 30 kilometers is dangerous. Iodine decays halfway in 8 days, and after 80 days there will be nothing left.
SEDUNOV (Deputy Chairman of Goskomgidromet): We are watching the situation with radiation from airplanes and the land sites. The spread of radioactivity depends on wind direction. First, the cloud went north, then west and south. There was a spread of radioactive air into Poland, Scandinavia, then into Romania and Bulgaria, yesterday - into Turkey. In Kiev, its level increased 80-fold above background, this morning it is 45-fold. A norm for the public is considered 10-fold above background over a year. In Minsk and Lithuania it’s 3-fold. In the North Caucasus, 2-fold. We suppose that in Kiev, it will start receding. But if the wind changes, the cloud can head toward Moscow.
(Note: Goskomgidromet is the weather forecasting agency. - LSW).
SHCHERBITSKY: Someone confused roentgens and milliroentgens.
(Note: not sure what he is referring to? - LSW).
SEDUNOV: It is important to watch the isotope content of the precipitation. Iodine goes into milk. Today that’s where most of the danger is coming from.
GORBACHEV: What to do with the cattle?
SEDUNOV: No need to destroy it. The Kiev water reservoir may become polluted.
LYASHKO: The water probes are being taken every hour. Radioactivity was only found in upper parts of the Pripyat’ river. We banned the public from drinking water from open sources there.
SEDUNOV: In Moscow everything is normal so far.
SHCHADOV (minister of coal industries): It is dangerous to break through the wall. Water should be pumped out and then the mix should be pumped in. If necessary, we’ll dig under the building.
(Note: Shchadov circles back to talking about the water problem and backs Legasov’s strategy. - LSW)
AKHROMEEV (deputy defense minister): Task number one is controlling the radiological situation. We started the deactivation of roads and other sites. Three thousand people are working on it. Today we will finish preparing the deactivation plan and report to the working group.
SOLOMENCEV: How effective is the cleanup?
AKHROMEEV: It reduces radioactivity by a factor of 3 to 4. We have to create burial sites for topsoil and water. We also have set up medical facilities at 7 thousand person capacity.
LIGACHEV: What does Akhromeev think about approaching the water under the reactor?
AKHROMEEV: My opinion is to break it with a cumulative projectile.
(Note: I think this means an anti-tank missile. A true military man’s response, and one vote for Velikhov’s plan. - LSW)
RYZHKOV: There are enough people.
AKHROMEEV: If needed, we will bring more.
LYASHKO: The Dnieper system provides water for 32 million people. The water samples are taken every hour. Yesterday there was no alarm until the evening. But today, there is. On smaller rivers, radiation levels have increased and are now 10^-4, with 10^-8 being the norm. (Note: Units? - LSW). These areas were instructed to switch to water from closed sources.
Luckily, there are artesian wells here. If need be, we will bring water tanks. What would be more difficult is if we would have to dump the water out of Kiev Reservoir. There is already a water shortage in the South. We need Gosomgidromet’s recommendations on how long we should hold the water in Kiev Reservoir.
GORBACHEV: How are the evacuated people?
LYASHKO: Evacuation was carried out in 3 hours in place of planned 6. One bad thing was that we had no protocol in place for this kind of scenario, no training has ever been conducted. The food for the evacuated has been organized. There turned out to be a disconnect between the services of the 3-rd Minzdrav group and the regional medical services. (Note: Minzdrav is the Ministry of Health Services - LSW). They were kept too secret. I spoke to Comrade Burenkov about it. The situation is getting better now.
The census of the evacuated has been complicated by the fact that there were many who have left on personal transport for the holidays to other towns, to visit family, etc.
Construction workers were sent to other objects. 3.5 thousand people were assigned to the “Mayak” factory. Many went to work at agriculture jobs. They will receive medium wages. Because of property loss, people will have to be paid a compensation out of Gosstrakh (Note: a state insurance agency - LSW). The people from the countryside should be given a one-time amount of 100 rubles for the head of the household, and 50 rubles for each family member. The public insists on being provided more information and guidance: what to do in the situation they are in.
SHCHERBITSKY: It is very important right now.
GORBACHEV: I thought we have already decided to provide such information locally.
LYASHKO: We need the minister of health and the scientists to speak and broadcast these regionally. Water from under the reactor should not be let out into soil, even if it goes into a pit. A pool should be built. We can build this type of vessel. We also need vessels for the deactivated soil. But places like that should be guarded.
VLASOV: We will do that.
LYASHKO: The school year continues. The primary school needs to be let out in a week, the tenth graders should finish as usual. All the children, evacuated ones, should be taken into summer camps. I am requesting openings for them. The milk gets doubly checked. If there is contamination, it is being sent for butter and cheese production.
GORBACHEV: We have got the project of the resolution. What should we add? We should take into consideration that the situation is very difficult in all aspects: radiation, an enormous territory. There will be no definitive answers from scientists as far as the future goes. That’s why we need to work by the worst-case scenario. The top priority should be the reactor with all the options considered. The working group must consolidate all the necessary resources and mechanisms.
At the same time, the work with the public needs to be underscored: living conditions, jobs, healthcare, etc. Water is a special question. What should we do? We should carry out all the calculations, all the forecasts. Especially planning all that needs to be done in the danger zone.
Separately, we must decide how to be with the outside world. Information must be provided in a calm and balanced manner, without overconfidence but firmly. Panic is the luxury of the subordinates, and not of the Politburo or the government.
The local channels in Ukraine should broadcast more expanded information. Across the Soviet Union, primarily the facts should be broadcast. Maybe the informational frame can be expanded to the outer world, as well. Our adversaries are asking us questions that would on one hand, allow them to judge us as a whole, and on the other hand - smear us with mud. If we add more information now, it will be natural, because the time passes, and with that the amount of facts. But we should not create a picture of overconfidence. We are facing the fact that this situation is a signal to everyone. The public’s opinion should be turned toward the steps we are taking towards nuclear disarmament. This accident, on a nuclear object, tells us that a nuclear war should never be allowed to happen. We should talk about this at a press conference. So, the information needs to be added to, but responsibly.
As for bringing the foreign specialists? As I understood from Legasov, there is no need for it. If there will be a need, then we’ll decide.
DOLGIKH: This is written in the next to last section.
GROMYKO: I agree with what Mikhail Sergeevich had said. It is correct that the situation remains serious. In the second section of the project it says: to consider.
GORBACHEV: It should say: approve the proposed measures and intensify the work.
GROMYKO: Section 10. We raised this question at the United Nations. We should use what we’ve already talked about previously.
SHCHERBITSKY: Section 9 needs to be expanded, to mention informing the populace regarding the situation.
GORBACHEV: Add this.
MEDVEDEV: Perhaps we should make a mention of periodically informing our friends.
GORBACHEV: It is already in the project. I suggest incorporating these suggestions and approving it.
POLITBURO MEMBERS: Agreed.
GORBACHEV: Boris Evdokimovich, you said that the analysis of the causes of the accident has been completed.
SHCHERBINA: Yes. On 25th of April, the power plant started conducting an experiment to test the reliability of its functioning, which has been approved by the Chief Engineer. It has been a crudest mistake to conduct such a test without taking the reactor functioning into account.
GORBACHEV: What kind of experimenting was it? This is a nuclear power plant.
SHCHERBINA: These kinds of experiments are conducted at power plants. But the nuclear watchdog agency should have been informed of that. The first scientific deputy hasn’t been there.
GORBACHEV: What about the version with hydrogen?
SHCHERBINA: No. There were two explosions inside the reactor.
GORBACHEV: What about the automated systems?
SHCHERBINA: None of the three systems worked.
GORBACHEV: There has already been resolutions regarding the improper operating procedures at Chernobyl NPP.
SHCHERBINA: The personnel have not been properly chosen.
CHEBRIKOV: We have two reactor systems - two-line (the more reliable ones) and the single-line ones. This is a single-line reactor. It doesn’t tolerate fluctuations in the operating procedure. Unplanned things lead to adverse circumstances. There are three systems in place to stop the reactor everywhere, but this one only had two. Capturing the extra heat output - that’s what the experiment was for. Its planning was done without involving the reactor designers.
SHCHERBINA: The hydrogen version was discarded right away. The problem was with the reactor vibrating and speeding up.
DOLGIKH: We should wait for the results of the final analysis.
GROMYKO: We should start discussing this in Central Planning. A big misfortune had struck us. Someone made an oversight, committed a crime and must be punished. What sort of thing they decided to experiment with. The decision should be such that many generations would not forget about this fact.
GORBACHEV: I suggest approving the resolutions regarding the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at Chernobyl and inviting Hans Blix to the USSR.
POLITBURO MEMBERS: Agreed.
The resolutions are approved.

“I can’t wait to fall in love with you, you can’t wait to fall in love with me, this just can’t be summer love, you see.”
character: levi ackerman - ATTACK ON TITAN
note: this is my CEO au! I’ve been meaning to write this for so long but i’m barely getting around to it. there could be multiple parts to this.
you were sitting down at one of the common room lunch tables with Eren, Mikasa, Sasha, and Armin. the company all of you worked at tended to break all of you at the same time so it wasn’t unusual to see the six of you together for lunch or small breaks.
“are we still going out tonight?” Sasha asked with a mouthful of baked potato, “more than likely,” Mikasa said with a monotone voice, “I’m not going to be in charge of any of you like last time,” she added.
you knew she was hinting at you with that comment. you tended to go a little overboard with the drinking at times and she, on more than occasion, had to carry or take you back home. Eren, Reiner, and yourself were the ones who usually went all out.
“aww, come on,” you mocked as she gave you the finger, “I need the small break! I’ll make you breakfast in the morning!” you offered as Sasha immediately perked up, “I’ll take care of ya, ( your name ),” you couldn’t help but laugh, “yeah and if I leave you to take care of me, it’s going to be Connie taking care of us,” you interjected.
Sasha knew you held a point. you took a sip of your soda before releasing an unintentional burp, “wow, good one!” you heard one of your superiors say.
Armin stared down at the table realizing your three bosses were right behind you. you didn’t even want to look back at them knowing what you did was extremely inappropriate.
“hello Mr.Ackerman,” you whispered as you tried to hide the embarrassed feeling you had, “my break is done in five minutes so I’ll be over to my desk in a matter of minutes,” you explained.
you heard Hanji laughing making you even more nervous, “aw Levi! you have your assistant terrified of you! that’s no way to have them,” Hanji remarked as you felt yourself wanting crawl in a hole and die.
“you went through six assistants before Moblit,” Levi threatened as Hanji remained quiet, “exactly, watch it,” you pulled your things together before looking over to Mikasa, “remember I need to stop at my house for my night bag before heading over to yours. you already know how I am after I drink,” you whispered as she nodded.
you grabbed the files you were supposed to work on and followed your boss to his one o’clock meeting. your mind was still stuck on the action you had did in front of Levi and felt yourself get embarrassed all over again.
“going out tonight, ( your name )?” Hanji asked a bit loudly, “uh, yeah. a few of us gather at the bar a few blocks down from here every Friday after work,” you explained trying not to out anyone as unprofessional.
she nodded, “how fun! how come you never invited any of us?” she asked as you felt your face heat up instantly, “uh, I, we, never thought our bosses would be interested in going out with a bunch of low rank employees,” you managed to say through your flustered state.
“Hanji, enough,” Levi stated as she rolled her eyes, “I think we both know someone who could use a night out,” she suggested as she pointed to Levi, “but seriously! at least invite me out sometime!” she added.
you nodded as you thankfully made it back to Levi’s office with Hanji now finally stopping her hundred question game.
Levi unlocked the door as the both of you walked in. you knew Levi tended to have the last of his meetings towards the later part of the afternoon but for some reason, he had one scheduled right after your lunch hour and wanted you present for it.
“would you like me to take notes for the meeting, Mr.Ackerman?” you asked him as you shuffled through a few pieces of paper, “clearly,” he muttered as you nodded.
for the first few months of your time with the company, you had always gotten a bit upset at the way Levi talked to you but as you continued throughout the years here, you learned to live with the fact that Levi literally talked to everyone that way.
“of course,” before you could say anything else, you heard a knock on the door. you expected it to be Levi’s client but it wasn’t, “Reiner!” you exclaimed a bit happier, “is there something you need?” you asked as you welcomed him in.
he gave you a smirk before entering the office, “mind giving this to your boss, sweetie?” you nodded as he handed you the papers, “what are they for?” you asked as he shrugged, “Mr.Smith just told me to give them to him. anyway, you goin’ out tonight?” he asked.
“with Eren and the rest of them? yeah, we’re meeting at Benny’s at like seven,” you explained, “then I’ll see you there, babygirl,” you rolled your eyes at the nickname, “yeah, you’re only excited that I’ll be there because Krista isn’t,” Reiner remained quiet, “exactly, goodbye Reiner.”
you went back to Levi to hand him the papers, “Mr.Ackerman, Reiner dropped these off on the behalf of Mr.Smith,” you whispered as he basically snatched the file from your hand, “thanks,” he muttered without giving you a second look.
your face went to confusion as you tried to figure out why he was more upset than usual, “is there something wrong?” you asked genuinely. Levi, for the first time looked up at you, “I don’t appreciate such PDA in my office, ( last name ),” you started laughing at his comment making him even more angry.
“that wasn’t PDA, sir,” you tried to say, “Reiner is that way with all the girls in the building. if that was PDA liked you claimed it was, I wouldn’t have rolled my eyes as hard as I did,” you added.
a sense of relief went over Levi, one that he had never felt before, “plus, I would never give Reiner the time of day. I like my men older, with a lot of life experience,” you said honestly.
“great to know ( last name ),” he replied as you gave him a smile, “better to be honest than to be a liar. plus, I believe Braun has eyes on Ms.Rals assistant,” you inquired.
Levi’s eyebrows fluttered in confusion, “correct me if I’m wrong ( last name ), is Reiss not involved with Fritz?” you nodded as he became more confused, “Reiner doesn’t know how to handle a no. I’m surprised, however, that you would know of such a relationship,” you mentioned, “you don’t seem like the type to know of company gossip.”
"it’s not hard to tell when she is wrapped around Reiss’s finger,” Levi countered, “besides, I know more than you think I would,” you laughed as you stood up and sat down on the ledge of his desk.
you knew that if it had been any other person, even Erwin and Hanji, sitting on top of his desk, he would have immediately kicked them off, claiming that they were getting everything so dirty.
“really now?” you taunted, “like what? I wanna know the tea you’ve heard around the company!” you crossed your legs as Levi couldn’t help to actually take you in.
Levi had never really payed much attention to his assistants before. he had gone through so secretaries and assistants that he eventually stopped paying attention to them.
you were different however. you were afraid of him, as was everyone when they first signed up for the job, but as you got more comfortable around him, every now and then you would tease or taunt him.
there was something that stood out to him about you. maybe it was your looks or maybe it was the you treated him, whatever it was, his mind would wander to you at times. your smile whenever you laughed at something Hanji did made his heart stop, even for a second. whenever you touched his arm or hand on accident, it felt like there was a burning sensation afterwards.
“that’s for me to know and you to find out,” you went over to your desk and took out a bag of Pepperidge Farm cookies before going back to ledge of the desk, “would you like some? I don’t think I seen you eat lunch today,” you mentioned.
Levi was hesitant but his mind took over and pulled out the Milano cookie, “please, I want to know! I’m very interested in this company gossip,” you exclaimed making Levi laugh before shaking his head no.
you huffed in playful annoyance.
“no fair! I told you everything I knew,” Levi knew that was a lie, “okay, maybe not everything,” you replied truthfully.
for what felt like a mere few minutes actually ended up with the both of you talking for a few hours. you knew both of you had work piled high but that suddenly seemed to leave both your minds as you continued to talk.
you heard your phone going off indicating that it was time to head home, “hey, Levi?” you asked, “we’re all going to be at the bar a few blocks down. you should come by,” you asked a bit nervously.
Levi hadn’t been asked out anywhere in years. the last time he went to anything like that, he was still in his twenties.
“I’ll see if I can make time in my schedule,” he replied making your eyes roll, “come on Ackerman, when’s the last time you’ve done this?” you asked as he remained silent, “exactly! Benny’s, nine o’clock,” you reminded before grabbing your Fjallraven Kanken bag and leaving.
Levi stayed at his desk long after you were gone. his mind contemplated whether to take your invitation but his thoughts got interrupted as he heard Hanji and Erwin walk into his office.
“go home Levi,” Erwin said as Levi shook his head no, “you should!” Hanji added, “it’s a Friday night. enjoy the fucking weekend for once.”
Levi immediately kicked them out as they laughed to themselves. he took his phone out of his pants and did something he hadn’t done in YEARS.
Hanji had downloaded a few social media apps to his phone once and although he never posted anything, he was still logged in. with you being so tech savvy, he was sure that you had an account somewhere.
Levi searched through multiple peoples accounts until he stumbled upon Eren’s and got to yours. you had posted a few things to your Instagram story and clicked on it.
the first one was the photo you wore to work. the second was you at lunch with Eren, the third was of you and all the girls are the bar, and the last one was with you and Reiner. you were on his back, in a piggyback form, as you held onto Reiner’s chest a little too tight for Levi’s liking.
Levi thought of his predicament and in the end, his mind won. he was going to meet you at the bar. he quickly shoved everything in his desk before grabbing his backpack and keys.
you had no idea if Levi was actually going to come or not but every now and again, you would look at the door. a few noticed but didn’t say anything.
“come on, let’s go and dance,” Reiner asked you as agreed with hesitance.
the bar was almost blacked out that you could hardly recognize Reiner’s face as you danced against him. the lack of romance was noticeable as Reiner looked at other girls to dance with.
“the brunette in the back is eyeing you,” you whispered to Reiner, “go to her, I’m gonna get a drink,” Reiner gave you a silent thank you before going towards her as you made your way to the bar.
as you waited for your drink, you watched the door and felt your jaw drop noticing who walked in.
Levi
you knew that if you kept him out of the group, he would feel less awkward and a lot more willing to dance or even talk to you. like you had mentioned earlier, you were glad the lights were so dim that to the eye, they wouldn’t even recognize that it was Levi.
you grabbed your drink before basically darting to Levi.
“hey! you made it!” you screamed as he chuckled, “you threatened me, I really didn’t have a choice,” he joked making you roll your eyes, “come get a drink, they’re kind of cheap here,” you told him.
Levi nodded as he followed you to the bar. he ended up ordering a Hennessy neat as the two of you remained sitting and talking.
one drink turned into a few before you convinced him to dance at least one song with you. Levi followed you, albeit a little annoyed, but as soon as you got him to the dance floor, you turned around and danced against him.
“just relax,” you whispered to him before grabbing his arm and pulling it over your shoulder to hold it, “enjoy tonight.”
Levi tried to dance back but with himself feeling a bit drunk and not having danced like this in years, he felt a bit stiff. you on the other hand were vibing straight to the song playing.
once Levi finished his drink and you were still dancing with him, he turned you around and looked at your ( colored ) eyes. you gave him a genuine smile before relaxing into his arms.
“But let me buy you drinks, better yet rings. Do it how you want it done, girl and who would of thought that you could be the one 'cause I can't wait to fall in love with you.”
Levi without thinking went in for a kiss. you were a bit stunned at the sentiment but reciprocated and kissed back. you wrapped your arms around his neck as the soft make out session continued.
“my place? it’s not to far from here,” Levi mentioned as he kind of hoped you said yes, “after you Levi.”

Chapter Summary: The time has come for Maleny to return to her original body once and for all. Dahlia, however, may have other plans to get what she wants and Klaus, without a second support, will be perfect to reach.
Because Maleny has been switched bodies once again, her temporary face claim is Adriana Louvier.
Maleny silently observed the spell that was supposed to return her to her original body. Her hand instinctively ran fingers over the burn mark on her clavicle. Behind her was Klaus who awaited with an anticipation he couldn't hide very well. He had told her what he managed to do as soon as she had woken up the next morning so they could immediately start preparing the spell for her.
Maleny lowered the paper and turned to him, "You got it…" she breathed a sigh of relief and rushed to hug him, just so excited, "Thank you!"
Klaus relished hearing her soft laugh of joy. He had finally done her one good deed since she arrived back from France. "I thought you would take joy in this," he kissed her head.
Maleny pulled away to look at him, her smile still wide across her lips, her hands finding their way to his face, "Oh I can't wait to be back in my body again. As glamorous as being an enhanced wolf is, it's just not who I am."
"I don't know," Klaus ran a hand down her hair, as if studying her face, "I've come to like this you in a wolf. It's...attractive."
Maleny pursed her lips, feigning offense, "Well, you're not exactly an unbiased party my dear - my original wolf/vampire. You wouldn't find me attractive as a witch anymore?"
"Now I never said that," Klaus chuckled while she deepened her frown, "This is just novelty."
"Yeah? Well," Maleny took on a smirk that spelled trouble, "Just know that you will never be kissed again if I stay in this body," a look of amusement settled on Klaus' face, "And even the big bad hybrid has needs sometimes."
Klaus caught her hand trailing over his chest and used it to pull her up against him, "Do not start something you will not be able to finish later," he warned her, the darkness in his tone portraying for a very different effect than normally.
Maleny took her hand from under his and tilted her head, "Is that a challenge? Seriously?"
"Seriously," Klaus mimicked her tone and made her laugh.
"Ooh, nice one," Maleny rolled her eyes and pushed herself away from him, "but right now I'm going to go get Alton and tell him the good news. I bet he'll be really happy."
"I know I will," Klaus muttered under his breath, of course still perfectly heard by Maleny nonetheless. Seeing her look, he merely shrugged, "I don't like him."
"There's a shocker," she crossed her arms, "You don't like anyone. But the good thing here is he doesn't like you very well either," she chuckled to herself as she started making an exit, only to come bumping into Hayley on the way. Immediately they both saw the hybrid was disheveled and distraught, the fear practically oozing out from her.
"Hayley, what's wrong?" Maleny reached to touch Hayley's arm in concern.
"Dahlia's here," Hayley choked out the terrifying words, she almost in tears after what she and Jackson had went through only mere minutes ago.

Once grouped together, all the Mikaelsons' plus Maleny and Hayley began to discuss the events that unfolded between Dahlia (who had managed to control swarms of people including Jackson for a minute) and Hayley out in the Quarter.
"Isn't that the point of a fortress?" Klaus' anger was the first to make an appearance, "It does a better job of protecting you when you stay within its walls?"
For the first time, Hayley accepted he was right but she wasn't going to tell him that anytime soon. "Let's just figure out what the hell we're gonna do."
"What I would like to do is take a strong leash…"
"Klaus!" Maleny scolded him, making hard eyes at him for his snide response, "I think we should focus on strategies," she looked around the room, "because I assume up to now there hasn't been a concrete one."
"I know a little about how her magic works," Freya got up from her spot and walked over to a round table with a silver tea kettle and five full tea cups resting over it. After hearing what her aunt had managed to do she resolved to at least make their minds stronger, "This tonic will at least prevent her from using any of us."
Rebekah reached for a cup as Freya did, and before drinking Rebekah glanced back at the others, "Well, come on! This should work like a charm!"
"You mean we are to drink one of her spells that could very well put us under like it did with Maleny?" Klaus remained across the group, firmly going against the apparent plan.
"Klaus, that was an accident," Freya pointed out, not surprised he would be the only one refusing the tea.
"And I was fully aware of possible side effects," Maleny added when she got up and walked to get herself a cup as well, "That wasn't her fault. So please, just take a drink?"
But this time not even her asking him to would get the job done. Klaus looked to the side instead, "Our minds are far too strong to be invaded by kenning spells."
Maleny rolled her eyes, seeing his plain excuses, "Well mine isn't. And since I'm still in charge of this body's safety, I'm doing it for Yamilet," Freya smiled when she downed the tea.
The only thing that kept Klaus calm despite her drinking a possible trick was that she wouldn't be spending much more time in that body. Anything happens to it she would be back in her original one. "So what we experienced was a test," he moved on, "Dahlia is watching to see how we respond to aggression. She's preparing for battle. My guess is sooner, rather than later.
"Well, if she was watching us, she would know that we have our own army," Hayley tried to be reasonable.
"She also knows where we are," Elijah reminded, "and, given the immense nature of her power, we simply have no idea what to expect from her. What we need is to create a new stronghold, something that Dahlia knows nothing about, a sanctuary from any witchcraft."
"That's a fine strategy," Freya praised, "I offer another. We could use Jackson to trace her magic back to its source, find out exactly where she is."
All eyes went to Hayley who quickly felt the pressure on her building and building until she sighed and gave in, "Fine, do it."
"I'm sure Camille can get her friend, Gia to look into the Algiers for a possible sanction," Elijah announced.
"Good! Then it's settled," Klaus, pleased, clapped his hands, "Off you pop to your respective tasks!"
"And where the hell are you going to go if I may ask?" Maleny suspected he had already come up with his own version of a plan that involved none of them. Those were the plans that worried her.
Klaus glanced back, only stopping to briefly explain, "I've always been of the opinion that the best defense is a good offense. So I'm gonna find a way to murder that God-forsaken witch."
Maleny nervously watched him leave the room before glancing back at the others, "See that?" she pointed after him, "That can't end well. Somebody needs to go with him."
She only made it one step towards the doors before Elijah grabbed her arm and stopped her, "Mal, you have to prepare for your spell."
"But I can't let him go like that," Maleny sighed as Elijah released his hold on her.
"It won't matter if you go or not," Rebekah spoke up, "Whatever he plans to do, he's going to do it anyways. It's best if you stay here and get ready to go back to your own body."
Glumly, Maleny resigned to stay back and attend to her own problems. She still had to call Alton and Amarrah to get them to come over and explain to them what would be happening.

Later on in the day, after Cami and Gia had done some research, Elijah and Cami met with Josephine at the St. James infirmary of the Algiers. Josephine was in a surprise to see the place being renovated, as it had been left abandoned for years.
"Oh, this was quite the place back in my day, St. James infirmary…" she remarked to the two vampires, "Vulgar, filthy, loud, some of the best nights of my life, but I assume you didn't go through all this trouble on my account."
"Well, my friend and I did some research and we discovered this place served as neutral grounds for both our communities," Cami explained, "A place where all were welcome and safe."
"And, in keeping with that tradition, we'd like to invite you to cast a spell," Elijah suavely got to the point of the visit, "One that would prevent the use of magic within these walls."
Josephine looked horrified at what they were asking of her, "You'd ask me to create a place where my kind would be utterly helpless?"
"My dear Josephine, powerful as you are, surely you must have sensed this grave new threat?"
"And I am not without empathy, but I have a responsibility to the witches. This is not our fight."
Cami arched an eyebrow, not too pleased the woman was willing to leave a baby on her own. "You do realize that's basically declaring yourself an enemy, right?" she innocently asked, "You're willing to stand aside and allow a poor little baby to be killed?" she knew Dahlia's purpose wasn't exactly to kill Hope but Josephine didn't need to know that.
Elijah smirked when Josephine came up with a compromise. Cami sure had ways with words, he thought.
"Perhaps a traditional blessing to dispel unwanted spirits?" Josephine asked them, "A barrier against those who mean to do us harm? Yes, a blessing combined with a disruption spell should do the trick."
"Thank you," Cami nodded with a beaming smile, afterwards taking Elijah by the arm and leading him out.
"Excellent way with words, Camille," Elijah remarked, still mildly impressed she'd acquired results in such a short time.
"Yeah, I'm thinking of leaving the psychology thing for public speeches. I have a way with words that even allowed me to get to Klaus, remember?"
"Well, what ever you decide I will be there to witness it," Elijah promised her, making her chuckle. She had only meant it as a joke but of course he was always 'supporting her' and whatnot.

When Amarrah and Alton arrived at the compound, they found Maleny in the room where hers and Rebekah's bodies were being kept. Maleny had the coffin's top raised to view her original body inside.
"I never thought how awkward it could be to stare at yourself," Maleny remarked casually, her arms crossed, "I mean, not a lot of people can say they have viewed themselves from another person's point of view."
"Is this supposed to be like some weird goodbye thing?" Amarrah came to stand beside her while Alton took the other side, "Because if it is, stop it. It's creepy."
Maleny playfully rolled her eyes, "What part of this was ever not creepy? I stole some guy's girlfriend's body," she glanced at Alton, "Sorry…"
"Not your fault," Alton shook his head.
"And then I committed mass murder with the body," Maleny sighed and glanced at Alton again, "Also sorry."
"Still not quite your fault," he assured, "Before this happened Yamilet had done worse things under Esther's and Finn's orders."
"Still, this entire situation has been beyond creepy and uncomfortable," Maleny shivered and closed the coffin once again.
"Well, I think it's about time we get the spell and get to work," Amarrah announced with a delightful smile, "I saw Freya in the living room so we can ask her for it."
Maleny nodded and led the way out of the room. The trio were a little confused to find only Hayley, Jackson and Rebekah inside with all the needed witches' spell ingredients except the very witch herself.
"Where's Freya?" Maleny scanned the room for the missing blonde.
Hayley and Rebekah exchanged uncomfortable glances, apparently having a secret needed to be told.
"We told her to leave," Hayley answered first, and just as Maleny's face went awry Rebekah added in.
"Mal, Dahlia is channeling her to create these powerful spells. We had to make her leave for now."
"Well, that was clearly something from Dahlia to get you going against Freya," Maleny stuttered, unable to believe Freya would willingly work with Dahlia.
"We couldn't risk it," Hayley shook her head, glancing over at Jackson who agreed with a nod, "I know what she did for your son, but I cannot risk my husband."
"You basically condemned your daughter to the same fate my son had," Maleny sourly said before turning away.

Distraught, Freya walked down a street in the corner, still shaken from what had occurred at the compound. Suddenly, all the people in the street started turning towards her, intently staring at her. Slowly, Freya came to a stop in the middle of the road, realizing it was another spell from Dahlia.
"No!" she cried and began to run but it was no use when she bumped into Dahlia herself.
The tall, dark-haired woman stood calmly in front of her, "There you are - after all these centuries I've finally managed to find one of you. Hello, my Freya." When she raised her hand Freya could feel her insides churning with terrible fear at what Dahlia was planning. But when she only made the humans return to normal, Freya gave her a look. Dahlia returned it with a small smile, "Hmm, how convenient that I find you here, mere footsteps from that which I shall take because of you and Nicolas."
Although terrified, Freya still argued back, "We did nothing to you but be your slaves. You have no right coming to take a child that is not yours to take."
Dahlia looked less than interested in what Freya had to say, "Are you here on their behalf?" she questioned instead, "Did you make a promise to your wretched siblings... 'Together we'll fight the wicked witch, side-by-side?' Tell me, darling, how did they respond to your overtures? Did they welcome you with open arms and weep tears of joy at your miraculous return? Hmm?"
Freya knew the woman was seeing right through her at the moment with all her pain exposed. "What are you going to do to me?"
"You always were a selfish, ungrateful child," Dahlia remarked, "And you turned Nicolas into one as well. For centuries, I fed both of you, clothed you, and cared for you, granted you powers beyond anything you could have ever dreamed, and still, you yearn for more, always wishing for another life, never satisfied," angry, she thrust her hand toward Freya, producing a severe pain infliction upon her. As the blonde witch fell to her knees, Dahlia remained watching her, "Soon enough, you will beg for me to bring you back into my home," with another spell, she raised Freya up with a tight neck choke, "After all, once I am done with these poor souls, I will be the only family you have left - apart from Nicolas of course."
Freya was released from the spell and fell to the ground again. She coughed violently as the air flooded her lungs.
"You should know better than to defy me, a lesson your father and brother will learn shortly," Dahlia then walked past Freya like nothing had happened. Freya processed her last words and realized Klaus has probably committed some type of plan that would only lead to destruction. She had to stop it, or at least help him so that it would work.

When Elijah and Cami returned to the compound, both were very unhappy to hear that Freya had been "asked to leave". Without her, their chances up against Dahlia minimize to a dangerous low. Fearing the worst, they had all of wolves guarding every inch of the compound. In the middle of the courtyard were Maleny and Amarrah discussing the matters of the location of Maleny's spell-breaking would occur. After reading the spell thoroughly, Amarrah discovered the spell had to be broken in the center of a spirit guided place: the cemetery.
"Are you sure it's safe to go out there?" Rebekah was asking Maleny while Alton retrieved the coffin carrying Maleny's original body. Amarrah was already at the cemetery with Davina, who'd graciously volunteered for help.
"In the Quarter, in these times, no where is safe," Maleny answered with a light-hearted smile meant for comfort. She didn't want anyone worrying over her at a time like this.
"But," a different voice added into the conversation, "there is protection we'd like for you to carry." Maleny and Rebekah turned around as Elijah walked in, seconds later Cami coming in with two werewolf guards of the compound.
"Elijah," Maleny sighed, unsurprised Elijah was pulling this over her. It was very like him.
"I don't want to hear any refusals," Elijah warned her, giving her a playful stern look.
"And I'm also coming with," Cami declared and walked across the room to stand beside Maleny.
"I would come with but I figure I'm useless at that," Rebekah looked to the side, "I don't want to ruin something very important."
"You wouldn't," Maleny put a hand over her arm.
Rebekah looked at her, feeling the woman's honesty in her words. Still, she would refuse, "I can't. I think I'm better here."
"Well, alright then," Maleny breathed in and glanced at Elijah, "We should get going. Please, oh please, keep an eye out on your brother."
"When don't I?" Elijah sarcastically replied then gave her a comforting nod, "But rest assure everything will be fine."
"Thank you, Elijah," Maleny beamed as she looked at Cami, the excitement just bursting out from her, "We have to go!" she pulled the blonde vampire out for the doors.

When things took a turn for the worst and Freya returned to the compound to tell her siblings Klaus and apparently Mikael had gone to go up against Dahlia, Hayley swayed to accept Jackson's proposal of fleeing the compound and the Mikaelsons altogether. She didn't feel one good bit about it, even when she had packed Hope's clothes and hers into a bag and Jackson came in their room. It wasn't the best the plan, she knew for sure.
"Hayley, are you ready?" Jackson asked, having no need to whisper since the the remaining Mikaelsons had gone out to St. Ann's church to save Klaus and the apparent new team member Mikael.
"Klaus and Elijah are the oldest, most powerful vampires in the world, and Dahlia's got them scared," Hayley's voice shook with fear, "Dahlia took Maleny's son and I can't let the same happen to Hope."
Jackson walked up to her sympathetically, "It will be fine."
"Do you really think that this is the best plan to protect her?"
"I really do," Jackson nodded. Everything was set to go. They would deviate from the planned spot where Marcel would come pick them up and instead wait for Aiden to arrive with another car to head into the bayou.

Seeing the creepy, dark crypt covered in a ring of salt along with other witch marks Maleny didn't quite understand was not a setting anyone would ever pick as a first choice for anything. Davina had gone into her family's crypt and set up for the spell, although no one guessed she had also hid many of Kol's dark objects in there, including the very important, now-working, dagger she and Kol finished before his death.
"Set it over there," Davina instructed the two werewolf guards as they carried in Maleny's coffin.
Maleny, Cami, Alton and Amarrah walked in afterwards, Amarrah carrying in a small bag over her shoulder. She went straight to Davina and set the bag over a small table.
"So this is the spell," she pulled out the scribbled paper Esther had drawn up.
Davina took the paper and gave it a glimpse over, "This...requires a lot of power," she blinked, suddenly hesitant to commit to the spell. She didn't want to do a spell that could put Maleny into a pre-depressive state again.
"You can do it," Maleny put a hand on the teen's arm, "You were able to break part of my curse before."
Davina would've replied 'Because your crazy almost mother-in-law helped me' but felt that would be a downer for everyone. She put on a smile for the woman instead and lightly nodded.
"So, you need to stand over here," she pointed Maleny to a spot across the coffin, "and you have to stay completely still."
"How long will the spell last?" Cami curiously asked.
"No more than five minutes."
"And when will we know if...you know...it worked?" Alton asked next, his beaming smile meant for the arrival for his girlfriend, Yamilet.
"It should take a couple or minutes," Amarrah replied, "If I were you I'd stand a little behind Mal."
"Why?"
"Because chances are she's gonna drop to the ground after the spell. I doubt Yamilet wants to wake up covered in dirt."
Alton chuckled and walked around the circle until he stood a couple feet behind Maleny. Amarrah then turned with Davina, both taking hold of their hands. Cami left the coffin top open and moved away from the circle, backing up to where the guards were, nervous to watch it all unfold.

After a bad defeat against Dahlia, the Mikaelsons regrouped back inside the compound, save for Hayley and Jackson who (unfortunately had their plan delayed) were now residing in the safe house of Algiers and Maleny who was still attending to her spell. They were catching Rebekah up with the bad unfolding of the fight they had lost.
"Well, that sounds like a bloody fiasco," she sighed, "Where's Dahlia now?"
"She could be anywhere," Elijah replied, "There wasn't a trace of her left in the church.
Freya, being the only one who was more angry than defeated, remarked, "She's done with us for the night. No doubt, she wants us to take some time to wallow in our defeat.
"Defeat? I disagree," Klaus flashed her a devious smile, "We saw her face. We took her measure. If that's the best she's got, quite frankly, I'm unimpressed."
The most unexpected guest of all, Mikael, spoke up from across the room, "Her aim was not to impress us. She wanted us to reveal our sole weapon, and, like fools, we did."
Rebekah looked between her father and brother incredulously, "Am I hearing things, or did Nik just exchange words with our father?"
"Rebekah. I'd know that wicked tongue anywhere," Mikael said back, almost amused, "What mischief have you gotten yourself into now? No doubt the bastard's doing."
That remark reminded everyone of the ongoing tension. Klaus growled, "Enough. My patience, like this farce of a reunion, is at an end."
"Agreed," Elijah made way for his father, "There only is one question here: What exactly are we doing?"
When Freya saw the discreet glance towards her she erupted into angry shouts, "This was not my plan! You," she pointed at Klaus, "rushed it and made but a single weapon!" she still couldn't comprehend why they would show their one weapon, a dagger specially made, to Dahlia in a rushed fight, "Of course she took it from you, and now we've lost what advantage we had and used up the very materials we needed to kill her."
Klaus remained calm against her shouts, seeing the problem less gravely, "It's a bit histrionic. Your materials are easily found. Let's take stock, shall we? There's an ample supply of your blood. Norwegian soil is hardly scarce. What else? Ah, yes... the ashes of Dahlia's viking oppressors."
"Only priceless relics gotten with great difficulty at a museum, lost due to your worthless strategies," Mikael accused.
In one second, Klaus sped the man against a wall, threatening him with the white oak stake. Freya, alarmed, meant to go for them but Rebekah held her back.
"If I feel even the faintest touch of your magic, Freya, I will end him with a flick of my wrist!" Klaus warned Freya before addressing Mikael, "You don't seem surprised."
Mikael only made a noise when he felt the stake brushing over his heart. Other than that, he was not very surprised by the predicament he found himself in. "Betrayal is in your nature, boy."
"No. I wasn't born like this," Klaus snapped, "Her you fight for…" he motioned back to Freya, "Lovely Freya, the daughter you barely know... yet there was a time when you knew me as your son, a time before all the disappointments, the revelations of betrayal. There were moments when all you had to do was be my father, and even then, you despised me, didn't you? I want to know why."
Although Klaus had nearly broken down Mikael upheld his cold tone, "I don't know. I just... did."
Furious of the answer, and partially overwhelmed by such a simple answer, Klaus acted out and plunged the white oak stake into Mikael's heart.
"NOO!" Freya screamed as her father fell to his knees, burning to death.
Klaus turned back to his siblings, feigning indifference, "Viking ash is indeed rare... but all you really need is a burning viking corpse."
As he left, Elijah and Rebekah now held back Freya together. They had her hands pinned behind her back to prevent her from attacking Klaus with magic. Freya uncontrollably sobbed her father's death. And, although Elijah and Rebekah knew Mikael wouldn't have kept living so long, they both agreed Klaus' rash decision hadn't been the best under the circumstances they were in.

Davina and Amarrah were in the middle of chanting the spell that was near ending. Cami and Alton, while both strong, were struggling to stay on their feet under the strong wind that resulted from the spell. Maleny had her hands balled into fists and her eyes shut. Only her hair moved in the midst of the wind. She could feel the spell's power pulsating through her blood, and even if it was slightly painful, she would withstand it all to be back in her own body.
But suddenly, a strange force picked up and blasted everyone in the room away from the ring and into harsh landings, all ending up unconscious. Several seconds later the sound of heels clicked closer, revealing Dahlia herself. She hummed at the sight before her, taking it all with ease, but soon her attention laid on the coffin. She walked towards it and peered inside where the familiar blonde rested inside, still empty.
"Hello again, my dear," she tapped her fingers alongside the edge of the coffin, "Last time I saw you, Nicolas said you had jumped bodies. Now I hear you're trying to do the same...only this time, there's going to be a new destination," the wide, sinister smile spreading across her face would've gave anyone a fearsome tremble if they had been awake to see it.

Night had turned to day, and after the previous actions, no Mikaelson had peace. Tension brewed once again when Josephine made a rather strange entrance into the compound.
"Josephine," Elijah came out with his two siblings to greet the woman, eyeing the woman suspiciously. It wasn't like her to come into the Quarter, much less into the compound.
"Forgive me for calling so early, Elijah, but, I've come bearing a message from your aunt Dahlia," the woman declared, "She is owed debts, and since they have not been paid she will come for the next third generation."
Klaus stepped towards her, "She can writhe in Hell first," he snapped.
"If you must harbor hatred, isn't it better spent on the ones who are really at fault here?" Josephine went on, surprisingly calm, "Your mother for creating the bargain in the first place or your sister and your son for running away?"
At the mention of Nicolas, Klaus nearly lunged on the woman if Elijah hadn't grabbed him. Even through that, Josephine showed no sign of fear.
"It's Dahlia," Rebekah realized afterwards, receiving a wicked grin from the woman.
"I prefer Aunt Dahlia," Dahlia, speaking through Josephine, corrected her.
"You dare enter my home?" Klaus, furiously, demanded, shaking off Elijah's hold from him.
"I came to warn you if you don't hand over the child I will come for you all," she declared, though the fearsome aura died down when the spell she held over Josephine began weakening and blood oozed out from under the choker she wore. "Though, I do not detect her here. I see you've used a spell to cloak her. No matter- such spells will yield, as will you. Say your farewells. You have 'til nightfall tomorrow, and then the child shall be mine."
Klaus could see the woman serving as a host for the spell was already dead and therefore made no second thought about chopping her in the neck and decapitating her. The headless body dropped to the ground and there laid the end of the awful surprise of Dahlia. Unfortunately, soon after Klaus' cellphone rang, the call being from Cami.
"Where the hell is Maleny?" was his first question upon answering. It had been many hours and although he knew he was severely lacking in patience, this was just too long for a spell.
On the other side, Cami was biting her lip as she looked back to the brunette woman sitting on a chair, Alton at her side, the woman weak.
"I hate that guy, I hate him so much, Alton," the brunette was telling Alton with the fury only the controller of the body could muster.
"It's alright, Yamilet," Alton had his hands on her head, "Everything's going to be okay now, I promise."
"We have a problem…" Cami finally said to Klaus over the phone, expecting an even worse fury from him after he heard what happened.

Davina repeatedly looked over the spell she and Amarrah attempted to do earlier, hoping to find the mistake they could've possibly done. By finding a mistake, they would be able to fix it. But nothing. There was nothing that told them what had gone wrong in the spell and and why only Yamilet had woken up.
When Klaus entered the crypt, she quickly cleared her throat to motion the others trouble was coming. Sensing the same, Cami was the first one to meet him.
"You have to listen," she began urgently, "We don't...we don't know…"
"WHERE IS SHE!?" he angrily shouted at the entire room until he saw the awakened brunette, staring at him, and he easily saw Maleny no longer was in control of those eyes.
"It's not her anymore," Alton stepped in front of Yamilet, guessing he hadn't yet figured out.
"Klaus, you have to listen to what happened," Cami insisted, "Look…"
Cami sat upright near the entrance hallway and rubbed her head, her eyes scanning the room for the others' conditions. Maleny seemed unconscious, lying face down on the ground, near Alton who groaning as he used the wall to get up. Amarrah and Davina had landed near the table of ingredients, now turned over from the blast. Both women raised their heads off the ground in terrible confusion.
"What just happened?" Cami finally asked, watching Alton go to Maleny.
"Yamilet?" he gently turned the body over, able to hear a pulse but who was in control of the body he wasn't sure.
Cami then rushed to the coffin of Maleny's original body, hoping to hear the heartbeat as well. Neither she nor Alton saw the looks exchanged by Amarrah and Davina.
"Yamilet? C'mon…" Alton cradled the head of his girlfriend's body, the heartbeat getting stronger as the woman began to stir, "Yamilet? Is it...is it…?" the woman's eyes opened up and stared at him.
"Alton?" the voice of the woman had changed, but to Alton it had only returned to the softer tone of his girlfriend.
His eyes filled with tears as he realized it was her, it was Yamilet. She was back with him now.
Cami began frowning when she couldn't hear anything from Maleny, "Guys, what's going on?" she glanced at the two witches, "I can't hear the heartbeat. Why can't I hear the heartbeat?"
Dangerous glares landed on Amarrah and Davina next, "What the hell happened here? You had the spell written down for you!" and he tried charging on the two witches but Cami, along with the help of the two wolf guards that had accompanied them helped her keep him back, "How easier could it have been for you!"
"We don't know what happened!" Amarrah exclaimed, equally frustrated and angry as he was, "Yes, the spell was written down but the power needed was something beyond us. Something happened and we don't know...we just…."
"We don't really know where Maleny's soul went," Davina said quieter, for once accepting his anger against them.
When Klaus took another forceful lunge at them Amarrah jumped in front of Davina, "We think someone hijacked the spell!" she shouted and made him stop to contemplate the idea, "The spell was going fine, maybe a little bumpy but it was going fine, I promise. Someone...someone did this, I could feel it."
It didn't take long for Klaus to come up with a person who would be interested in hurting Maleny at the moment, "...Freya," he muttered.

In the safe house, Hayley was anxiously awaiting the return of her husband, and to hear word from Aiden. She didn't like the plan they had settled on, but she found it was the only possible way to protect Hope. They would be trying to cut Hope's magic off through a spell that hopefully Davina would be gracious enough to do for them. But she hated the only thing she could do at the moment was wait. She didn't feel any better when she saw magical green vines suddenly creeping into the place from the outside. They grew to be so big they completely covered the windows. She snatched Hope up into her arms and slowly moved closer to the windows, along with several other of the guards. The crimson red flowers growing on the vines reminded Hayley of the previous encounter with Dahlia, thus letting her know what was happening.
"They're dahlias. She knows we're here," she told the to others, "We need to spread out, now!" the guards didn't waste a minute in doing so, spanning around the outside to fight against the witch.
After trying an unsuccessful phone call from the cellphone, she tried using the landline, hoping to get one of the Mikaelsons' to pick up. However, she came up with the same results.
"I need you to go get help," she called the nearest wolf from the outside, "Now, please!"
Hayley only had a minute to think before she heard the cursed tune of Dahlia's carrying in from the entrance. She picked up Hope again, the baby obliviously chewing on her favorite teddy bear, and began to pace again. When she saw Dahlia finally make an appearance, she stopped and glared at the woman.
"What a beauty," Dahlia remarked of Hope, meaning to step inside only to realize the thick line of sand spread over the doorway, "I sense by entering, you would have me at a considerable disadvantage."
Although scared beyond belief, Hayley made the menacing threat, "Why don't you come on in? I would love to show you some hybrid hospitality."
Dahlia took the threat with amusement, "I only came to chat."
"Fine: if you lay a finger on her, I swear I will make you suffer in ways even your evil mind can't imagine."
Dahlia laughed, waving a hand in pure calmness, "Hayley, is it? I have no quarrel with you. Frankly, I think your anger should be directed at the Mikaelsons. After all, it is because of them that I'm here for your child. It was their mother who made the bargain, it was their sister and their firstborn nephew who ran from me when they belonged to me."
"Well, if you're as the big bitch they made you out to be I don't fault them for running," Hayley snapped.
"I feel...very sorry for you," Dahlia flashed a light smile, "You and the other one, Maleny. Both of you were flung into this world and have suffered because of this family. Unfortunately, her loss will now be your loss, and if you're not careful your own death as well."
"I am not afraid of you," Hayley declared, her mother fury masking her fear, "You are not taking my daughter."
Dahlia tilted her head, "I admire your ferocity to save your child, certainly not like the last child's mother I took."
"That's because she wasn't there! But I'm sure if she was she would have fought in the same way she is now," Hayley angrily said.
"Perhaps," Dahlia consented and dug a hand into her pocket, "which is why I came to strike a deal with you. Clearly, you are the most level-headed of all these people at the moment."
"I'm not interested in anything you have to say," Hayley turned away, intending on walking away.
"Not even one that could would allow you to keep your daughter?" the question made Hayley freeze in her tracks. Dahlia smirked as the woman slowly turned back, "You are right, I have no right in taking this child, but I must since I need power to break this sleeping spell. But, your child is not the only source I can use. I will let you keep your daughter if, and only if, you turn in either Freya or Nicolas Mikaelson to me."
Hayley's eyes widened in horror, "Are you...out of your mind? I won't turn in anyone to you."
"Now, my suggestion would be to turn in Freya," Dahlia said calmly, acting as if Hayley hadn't yet said anything, "She's the closest, clearly, and she was never truly part of the family. But, if you see her better suited to stay, bring in Nicolas. With enough power you can break his cloaking spell and bring him here. And if it's the mother's rage you wish to avoid, have no fear, it's all taken care of," she pulled out a small red pendant necklace from her pocket, much like Freya's blue pendant where she had Finn's soul inside.
Hayley's eyes narrowed in on the pendant, trying to figure out what it meant, along with Dahlia's words. She clutched Hope closer to her, "What's that?" she finally decided to ask.
"Imagine it as a little container - it holds Maleny's soul for the moment," Dahlia had a wicked smile stretching across her face, like this was all just a game for her.
"What...what does that mean?" Hayley's insides churned at the idea of what Dahlia could've done to her friend.
"It means Maleny will no longer be a problem if you wish to turn in her son."
"What did you do to my friend!?" Hayley snarled and stalked towards Dahlia, "I swear to God you will regret it if you hurt her, and not by me, but by someone else who's a bit stronger and more angry."
Dahlia put away the pendant back into her pocket, and spoke her last words before leaving, "You have until nightfall tomorrow to make a decision and act on it. Goodbye."

As the coffin with Maleny's empty body was placed back into the safe room of the compound, Klaus raged outside in the corridor, Elijah and Rebekah listening from beside.
"It was Freya!" he was shouting, making erratic hand gestures, "She's angry I killed Mikael so she sought revenge!"
"I don't think Freya would do that," Rebekah spoke up rather sure of herself. Klaus stopped pacing to give her a dagger glare, "It doesn't add up," Rebekah insisted, "Ever since Freya got here she's said over and over how she wanted to help Mal."
"Rage makes one act out of order, Rebekah," Klaus snapped.
"Speaking from experience then," Elijah remarked afterwards, earning himself a glare as well.
"This isn't funny! Do you know, out of all this, I am most tired with having to deal with Maleny getting caught in our crossfires?" Klaus' question made the other two siblings stay quiet, allowing the guilt to fill up, "Ever since she came back she has only had one purpose, to find the corpse that would break her spell. I haven't been able to help her because I've been doing this! And, yet, somehow, she's gotten the worst of it."
Elijah could see the pain seeping through his brothers hard words and felt sympathy for him, "Then let all this petty paranoid and stand with us. We will get Maleny back and protect Hope."
"If by "us" you mean you and Freya, then I will not be standing with you."
Elijah sighed, "She is the best chance we have to save your child, not to mention the needed power to help Mal."
"We need her, Niklaus - Freya is our family. If you cannot see the greater picture here-"
"You see only around the next curve in the road! I am looking from above. Freya gave herself away when she complained of our single weapon to kill Dahlia. Now, I know there is a way to defeat our hated enemy without her."
Rebekah rolled her eyes, "So enlighten us already and we will do everything in our power to help you!"
"Forsake Freya, and I will let you in!"
Elijah had reached his patience with Klaus and began to rise in volume, "This is insane! Hope is also our family. Now, if you continue to walk this path, you will lead her towards harm. And do not fail to understand me when I say this to you - I will do whatever it takes to prevent this."
"So will I. So, the choice remains yours, brother - Freya, or me," Klaus gestured with open arms before walking past them. He didn't care who stood by him, or who didn't. He would get Maleny back from wherever she was, all in the meanwhile of taking down Dahlia for Hope.

After finally seeing Hayley's calls, Elijah made it to the Algiers to hear about the events that had unfolded.
"Of course I tried to call you, Elijah!but Hayley was fuming, "But since Dahlia was able to take down both Klaus and Mikael, I'm guessing that a cell phone tower was a piece of cake."
"And where were the wolves who stood guard?"
"Getting their asses handed to them by Dahlia, just like Klaus did."
And at that moment, Klaus made an entrance as well. Surprised by his presence, Elijah questioningly looked at Hayley.
"I called both of you," she explained, suddenly quieter, "Dahlia is willing to make a deal in order for us to keep Hope."
"Oh, and I imagine the price is extra high," Klaus sarcastically smiled.
"Either we turn in your sister, Freya, or your son, Nicolas or she comes for Hope."
The smile was quickly gone from Klaus' face, and replaced with fury, "And you agreed!?"
"Yes," it was Hayley's turn to be sarcastic, "because if I had agreed then I would definitely be telling you about the deal in the first place," her tone then shifted to a soft, stern one, "I want my daughter safe, Klaus, but the cost of staying here will be too high for your family. Also," she knew her next words would probably bring the tip of the iceberg, "I don't understand how, but...she has Maleny trapped in some type of pendant necklace."
"She took Maleny!?" Klaus roared, only this time there was no one to attack.
Hayley sighed, "Look, with everything that's going on, we have to go," she received the expected alarmed, confused faces of the brotherS so she quickly added in, "Jackson is out getting supplies, and then we're taking the wolves and we're headed to the Bayou."
"The swamp?" Klaus arched an eyebrow, completely unamused with the silly plan, "So my child can be protected by the very wolves Dahlia so easily defeated? Absolutely not!"
Frustrated, Hayley marched up to him, coming face to face, "You know, I am so over taking advice from you, Klaus. All it has done so far is put Hope in danger. From now on, I am going to do what I want to do. We're leaving."
He shoved her back before she could leave the place, "You're not going anywhere unless I tell you to."
"I am not your prisoner, Klaus!"
Elijah sighed, trying to break them apart, "Both of you, please- we're playing into Dahlia's hands."
"Not doing as I say plays into her hands!" Klaus snapped, "While you two have been kow-towing to Freya and devising ways to flee with your tail between your legs, I've been forging a new path. I know what Freya was planning, and I know how to kill Dahlia.
But suddenly, they heard Jackson's booming voice calling out for Klaus. A couple of seconds later, he came in holding Aiden's dead body over his shoulders with a werewolf guard behind.
"Oh, my God," Hayley blinked when Aiden was placed down on a table. The corpse was marred in what looked like claw marks and had his heart taken out.
"Klaus made Aiden spy on us. Instead, he told me everything," Jackson turned to Klaus, fully accusing him, "so you killed him!"
Klaus only had a second to look over the corpse when Hayley was already accusing him as well.
"You killed one of the wolves sworn to protect our daughter?" she frowned.
Seeing all the accusing faces, and thinking it over for a minute, Klaus went with, "So what if I did? This is what happens to anyone who dares cross me!"
The werewolf that had come in with Jackson made a remark, "just give us the word, Jackson."
"Yes! Come and have a go!" Klaus shouted, motioning them to have at it, "But you'll be putting your life on the line for one who is all too willing to betray you. Perhaps this never would have happened if he'd had a real Alpha."
Jackson lost it and lunged for him, punching him across the face. In retaliation, Klaus sent Jackson backwards, into other wolves that had come in from the commotion. Hayley tried getting in to defend Jackson but suffered a blow to the stomach and flung to the side. It wasn't until Elijah put himself between Klaus and Jackson that things froze.
"Do you wish to die?" Elijah darkly inquired from Jackson.
Furious, Hayley got up and shoved Elijah back, "You wanna kill me, too, Elijah?"
Elijah moved back to where Klaus stood, "If you come at him, you come at me."
Klaus smirked with such a pleasant outcome, "You lot should make better use of your time. I suggest burying your dead."
"GET OUT!" Hayley screamed, violently pointing at them to the doors.
Elijah sighed and glanced at his brother, "Niklaus, you mentioned a plan. I recommend you begin. Hayley and Hope are safe for the time being and not going anywhere."
With a fake smile, Klaus nodded, "Shan't be long," he promised and calmly walked off.

In Marcel's apartment, he and Rebekah were discussing what apparently had happened to Aiden. And though she knew her brother perfectly, Rebekah was still stunned of the news.
"I can't believe this is happening. My brother's lost his bloody mind!" she exclaimed, slumping back against the couch, "I don't know whether to blame this on what happened to Mal, I mean...did his anger really drive him to do this?"
"You really think those wolves are gonna fight to protect Hope now?" Marcel asked the winning question, one that left Rebekah deeply pondering of the consequences Klaus' action would bring upon them.
"He ruins everything he touches! Turns everyone against us!" Rebekah raged and shook her head. "Honestly, sometimes I don't understand how Maleny can stand him!" But then she got to wondering if Maleny had been around, would he still have done such an outrageous thing?
Suddenly, Davina appeared by the entrance, teary eyed from the catastrophe, "Marcel?"
"We just heard," Marcel went for yer, "Is Josh with you?"
"No," she shook her head, "When Jackson came to get Aiden's body, he just took off."
"D- D, I'm so sorry," Marcel took her into a hug, letting her cry for a little.
Davina pulled herself together and stepped back, "I brought something for you," she dug into her purse and pulled out the gold dagger she and Kol finished.
Rebekah caught sight of the familiar dagger and gaped, "Is that what I think it is?"
Davina nodded, "The dagger Kol and I made. I want you to use it," she looked at Marcel, "Mal's gonna have to forgive me but I want you to put Klaus down."
Without saying a word, Marcel took the dagger from her, glancing at Rebekah to see what she wanted to do with it.

Amarrah and Cami had been going through Maleny's room in search of her mother's spell book. The idea was to find to a spell that would either locate Maleny's whereabouts, or bring her back from wherever she was. Amarrah squealed when she found the book in one of the drawers set against a wall.
"Aha! Yes!" she cheered and turned back to Cami, "Got it!"
Cami was relieved to see the book back and motioned for the witch to follow her out. When they did, they caught Klaus heading into his art room. The two women exchanged concerned looks, and after a moment they walked for the art room them selves.
Klaus was lurking through his things when he heard one of them clearing their throat. He was slightly confused to see them both smirking at him. "Can I help you both?" he asked the empty, sarcastic question.
"We've been thinking," Amarrah announced, ignoring the loud scoff he gave in response, "about the whole Aiden thing, and we have something to tell you."
"I believe everyone else has covered the basics of insults and whatnot," Klaus rolled his eyes.
"Why are you lying?" Cami sharply asked, starting him, "No one is here but us. We're trying to help you and you lying does no good."
"I'm not lying," Klaus frowned.
"It doesn't make sense," Amarrah continued, "None of it does. See, Elijah thinks you did it because Aiden betrayed you, but Rebekah thinks it's because of what happened to Mal."
"Yes," Klaus slowly, and darkly, said to the women, meaning on scaring them.
Cami took a step towards him, smirking even wider, "Liar, liar, pants on fire. We don't believe you, so just stop and tell us what it is you're planning."
"You have us, Alton and even Yamilet who's craving for revenge against your family," Amarrah reminded him, "Tell us."
Klaus considered the many things he could tell them, but never the true plan. He did think, however, of one detail they would be perfect in working at.
"Dahlia intercepted the spell you tried earlier," he looked over at Amarrah, "She placed Maleny's soul into a pendant necklace much like the one Freya wears around her neck. Figure a spell to get Maleny back."
Amarrah blinked, her mind racing to process the horrible news. Cami, on the other hand, pulled herself together rather fast in order to think.
"We have to know why she did it first and with what spell."
"She meant it as part of a deal she made with Hayley, which she didn't take clearly," Klaus turned back to his things, "Get Mal back, that's your task. The rest is for me."
But at that moment, Elijah strode into the room, "You put them in the paint," he accused, "Father's ashes, the earth from sacred ground, all hidden in plain sight."
Klaus turned back in anger, "What are you doing here? You're supposed to be guarding Hayley."
"She's gone," Elijah declared rather calmly despite what was to come next, "She and Jackson took Hope, and you will not find them, brother."
"You helped Hayley escape? With my daughter?" the anger settled instantaneously over Klaus.
Cami was horrified to hear Elijah had done such a thing, especially without even talking to someone about it, "Elijah…" she whispered.
"Someone had to protect that child," Elijah began but Klaus has fully vamped-out and shoved him back until he was practically holding him over the balcony rail.
"HOW DARE YOU?"
Elijah grabbed Klaus' arm and twisted it to turn him around, shoving him back into the room. Klaus ended crashing through his tables.
"Cami…" Amarrah was horrified, and frankly scared, of the sight before them. The blonde gently pushed her out of the room and considered the idea of going in to help, but...she wasn't quite sure which brother to help. Klaus had his reasons, but Elijah was at a disadvantage due to his lack of knowledge about the truth.
Klaus had come back and thrown Elijah across the room then sped over to continue, "I'm a hybrid, Elijah. Why provoke a fight you cannot win?"
Elijah didn't say a word back and instead pulled out the golden dagger and jammed it through Klaus' heart. The hybrid was so caught off guard he didn't have a moment to think and pull the dagger when it already started taking effect.
"Elijah!" Cami screamed in both horror and anger. She didn't think twice before speeding over to take the dagger out herself.
"No, Cami!" Elijah yanked her back but the blonde was willing to fight him for it. She punched him in the face with all her might, sending him a decent amount of distance away.
"Amarrah!" Cami called and motioned her with a nod to get the dagger.
But Amarrah was suddenly grabbed by Rebekah and Freya from behind. She dropped the spell book and struggled against the two women.
"What the hell is wrong with you!?" Cami meant to go for the two sisters and help Amarrah when Elijah was back on his feet and grabbed her from behind.
All in the meanwhile, the desiccation was taking full effect over Klaus. He had fallen to his knees and could only watch the last of the events in struggle.
"Cami, just stop!" Elijah was in and full struggle against the blonde in his arms.
Cami was jumping and making attempts to punch him from behind. She was beyond furious with the recent decisions that had apparently been taken without a word of consultation with her. After all that Elijah had told her about being part of them, a part of their family, she felt she was owed at least that much.
"CAMI!"
"NO!" Cami screamed and elbowed Elijah harshly, making him pull back. She sped towards the now desiccated Klaus on the floor, however Elijah got to her first and, with an immense pain in his heart, snapped her neck.
"No!" Amarrah exclaimed, teary eyed, as she watched her friend drop to the floor with a thud.
Elijah didn't look at all pleased with the happenings. His own teary eyes had blurred his vision, and though it hurt him, he stood by his actions with all the consequences that would follow.

Arrival Heights: The Forbidden Zone
You saw my midnight hike up Arrival Heights some time ago. What I failed to disclose in that entry is that I didn't go all the way up to the bit specifically known as Arrival Heights, in part because it was midnight but also because a great deal of it is within an ASPA (Antarctic Specially Protected Area). The historic huts and Cape Crozier are also ASPAs. I had applied for and received the permit to visit them with authorised personnel, but my coordinator had suggested I put Arrival Heights on the list as well, so I had permission to go there, too. The authorised personnel in this case was in the office right next to mine, but it wasn't until fairly late in my visit that our schedules and the weather aligned for me to go up there with her. However, it turned out to be a spectacular day, and fortuitous timing as it turned out – but I will get to that later.
Shelley, my native guide, is Keeper of the Antennae, and Arrival Heights is all antennae – that's why it's Specially Protected; with guy wires and exposed wiring everywhere people could get into all sorts of trouble by accident, plus one isn't supposed to get near the sensitive equipment with certain types of insensitive equipment, lest one interfere with the results. Our first stop of the day was actually in the opposite direction: Between McMurdo Station and Scott Base is an array of antennae rigged to detect meteors entering Earth's atmosphere. It's a project of the University of Colorado, Boulder, and the extra fun thing is that you can follow the data coming in live from the comfort of your own home: https://ccar.colorado.edu/meteors/meteors
Shelley, Keeper of the Antennae, was in charge of this site too, and she had received a notification shortly before heading out which demanded she solve a problem in person, so that is where we went first.
The computers that process the information from the antenna array live in this little hut. That's Observation Hill in the background – we're on the other side from McMurdo here – with the Scott Base road marked by the orange bollard at upper right.
Here's Shelley about to load the UCB website to make sure everything's running OK:
And here’s the processing unit:
The reason she'd been called out was not anything exciting like an emergency antenna repair or technology problem, but rather that the hut was getting too hot. Like any shed in a sunny garden, on a clear calm day it collects heat, and the computers don't like that. The research budget did not extend to installing an automatic climate control system, but did stretch to pinging Shelley to come over and wedge a roof hatch open with a block of wood.
Job done! (I'm telling you, the Trucker's Hitch is the knot to know.)
Temperature moderated, we retraced our steps to McMurdo and then took the access road up to Arrival Heights, where Shelley was due to do her weekly inspection of the antenna in Second Crater.
As I said, there are a lot of antennae up in the ASPA, and both the US Antarctic Program and Antarctica New Zealand use the site for their research. So, naturally, they each have a hut up there. Here is the Kiwi one, in their signature green:
The US hut was on the other side of the car park, with its signature Ford F-150:
The two countries' choice of vehicle was amusingly symbolic of their respective cultures but is, perhaps, a post for another day. We've got antennae to tend, here!
First, another nip into the hut to check everything was OK.
The reason I had been encouraged to go up to the Arrival Heights ASPA was because it afforded excellent views of the whole McMurdo Sound. It was also a site of historic interest as the Terra Nova men returning from the Depot Journey would come up here from Hut Point to check whether the sea ice had frozen between them and home base at Cape Evans. There is a marginally better view from Castle Rock, which they visited occasionally, but Arrival Heights was much closer. It's still a good hike from Hut Point, though, so accounts that make it sound like a short stroll are to be taken with a grain of salt.
Second Crater (above) is a hill on top of the heights which had, once upon a time, been a volcanic cone. That is long past, though, and now it serves mainly to provide a sheltered alcove for a very sensitive radio antenna. While Shelley did whatever antenna tending needed to be done, I climbed to the top of Second Crater and took photos.
First, the all-important view to Cape Evans. From this altitude one gets a better view down to the bays, to see just how much ice had formed – and one can just see over Glacier Tongue, to tell whether the ice is in on the other side, which certainly can't be done from Hut Point.
In 1911, the end of Glacier Tongue had broken off and floated away, so it would have been an even clearer view.
McMurdo Station's situation at the base of the Hut Point Peninsula means that massive Mt Erebus, which dominates the landscape, is blocked from view by the hills close to base. Up here, one got a proper sense of how the geography all fitted together.
While Shelley was occupied in the hut and I was watching the big plane, someone turned up at the Kiwi hut in that Toyota you saw above. She turned out to be Shelley's ANZ counterpart, and asked if I might lend a hand bringing a canister of liquid nitrogen into the hut. Never in my wildest dreams had I anticipated helping with liquid nitrogen, so of course I said yes. In the course of the enterprise, she ascertained that I was the visiting artist who had worked at Disney, and she commented on how cool that was; I replied that I never got to haul liquid nitrogen around at Disney! She invited me to come give a talk at Scott Base, which felt like getting the Golden Ticket – aside from the limited 'open hours' when Americans are allowed to visit, Scott Base is invitation-only, and now I had an invitation!
Before long, Shelley was ready to go, so we trundled back down the hill to base. I had a camera full of photos to sort, and another presentation to put together ...

TAFAKKUR: Part 387
CHANGE OR CHOICE: IS THE UNIVERSE AN ACCIDENT: Part 1
Our understanding of the genesis and evolution of the universe is one of the great achievements of 20th century science. The knowledge upon which it is based comes from decades of innovative experiments and theories. Modern telescopes on the ground and in space detect the light from galaxies billions of light years away, telling us what the universe looked like when it was young. Particle accelerators probe the basic physics of the high energy environment of the early universe. Satellites pick up the cosmic background radiation left over from the early stages of expansion, providing an image of the universe on the largest scales we can observe.
Cosmology is the study of how the universe we live in came into being, why it looks and behaves as it does, and what its ultimate fate is. Building on the work of Albert Einstein, cosmologists have come up with a new account of the origin of the universe, the so-called big-bang cosmology. Over the past three decades a series of observational developments and refinements to the theory have led to its wider acceptance. For the present, there are no fundamental challenges to the big bang theory, although there are certainly unresolved issues with the theory itself. Astronomers are not sure, for example, how the galaxies were formed, but it is questionable whether there is a reason not to think the process did not occur within the framework of the big bang. Indeed, the predictions of the theory have survived all tests to date.
Nevertheless, we should always bear in mind that present-day science is not the last word, and perhaps Einstein’s theories, and the big-bang cosmology, will in turn be superseded.
Our present knowledge of the universe is restricted to a handful of observational facts. The expansion of the universe, indicated by the law relating the red shift in light from astronomical objects to their distance, was dis¬covered by Edwin Hubble in the early part of this century. The existence of the microwave background radiation corresponding to a temperature of 2.7K, and the cosmological abundance of helium are more recent discoveries. Together, these three observations suggest that the universe was born in a hot fireball from a very dense state-the big bang. Not just matter was created in the big bang, but space-time as well. There was nothing outside for the big bang to explode into-and this nothing means not even empty space.
Cosmologists today do not claim to know exactly what made the universe explode into existence from a state of zero volume and infinite density-a space-time singularity-but they do claim to be able to describe in great detail how a hot fireball of matter and radiation has evolved from a fraction of a second after the instant of creation over about 15 billion years to produce the cool, dark spread of empty space, dotted with galaxies made up of stars, gas, dust and planets, that we see about us now.
The laws of nature as we currently understand them allow us to trace the observed expansion of the universe back billions of years to what would be a true beginning, a moment when the universe was infinitely hot and dense. Although, theorists are now pushing back their speculations about what happened in the first 10-35 seconds after the big bang, with less confidence, the modern cosmological world view begins at a time when the universe had cooled to only 1012K, about 10-5 seconds after the instant creation. At these extreme conditions, the laws of physics as deduced here on earth can be applied to produce the story of everything that ha happened since. At a temperature of 1012K, particles and radiation would be interchangeable, as the mass equivalent of energy in the radiation would be ample to produce particles like protons, neutrons, and electrons, not out of thin air but out of thick radiation, in line with the rules E=mc2 for a particle of mass m and E=hv for radiation with frequency v (h is Planck’s constant). Here higher black body temperature of radiation corresponds to bigger v, that is bigger energy E, and therefore to more massive particle equivalents.
So, one-hundred-thousandth of a second after it began, the universe would have been a seething mass of particles and radiation, a swirling soup in which particle/antiparticle pairs were constantly being created out of energetic photons, and constantly annihilating with one another to produce other energetic photons. Overall though, the total mass/energy of the whole system was constant. For every E/c2 of mass created or destroyed an exactly equivalent E/h of radiation is destroyed or created.
Things began to get more orderly at 1011, still within the first 0.1 seconds after the big bang, as the universe expanded so that the density of radiation at any point was no longer enough to produce the more exotic particles. Only electron/positron pairs, and the massless photons and neutrino/antineutrino pairs, were light enough to have a continuing involvement in the matter/radiation balance.
About 14 seconds after the big bang, the temperature of the universe had dropped to around 3xl09K, and even electrons and positrons needed too much energy for the weakening radiation to create them. As the universe con¬tinued to expand and cool, creation became slower than annihilation, and almost all the particles and antiparticles disappeared. But for some unknown reason, a small proportion of electrons, protons and neutrons were left over. It is this early excess of matter over an¬timatter that survived to form light atomic nuclei a few minutes later, then (after about a million years) to form atoms and, still later, to be cooked to heavier elements in stars, ultimately to provide the material out of which life would arise. The reason for this predominance of matter over antimatter remains a mystery and has been a source of concern to modern cosmology. It is, nevertheless, one of the key initial conditions that determined the future development of the universe.
As the temperature dropped to 109K-about 70 times the temperature in the heart of the sun today-many protons and neutrons fused into helium nuclei, and by the end of first four minutes no free neutrons were left. Some 75% of the mass of the visible universe had been processed into protons plus electrons (ultimately to be bound into hydrogen atoms) while rather more than 25% mass of the universe had been processed into helium. The abundance of these elements in the universe is detectable today, and provides a constraint on the range of allowable models.
Another 700,000 years later, the expanding universe cooled to the point where electrons can bind to helium and hydrogen nuclei to make atoms, at a temperature of around 5000K. This signalled the end of the last remaining links between matter and radiation on a cosmic scale. Although free electrons and atomic nuclei, being electrically charged, interact strongly with radiation, electrically neutral atoms do not. From then on, the background radiation had nothing left to do but spread thinner in the expanding and cooling universe, to become the faint hiss we now detect at temperature equivalent of 2.7K. The very high degree of uniformity of the microwave background today is a strong indication that uniform, isotropic models provide a good description of the universe.
After the first thousand million years or so, with matter firmly established and radiation playing only a minor and decreasing role, the story of the universe can be taken up in terms of gravity, left as the dominating force because of its long range and its independence of electric charge. Gravitational forces then shaped the galaxies by holding stars and planets together.

Ducktales Reviews: The Trickening!
Halloween Havoc continues! Louie’s greed and lack of concern for his brother’s feelings or well thought out schedule leads them to a real life haunted house with vampire clowns, dummies, a scary well lady and a gelatinous cube. Because there’s’es always room for gelatinous cube. Meanwhile Della wants to use Launchpad’s dangerous misconceptions about halloween to traumatize children for funzies and Donald had a problem with that for some reason. Also Scrooge is kind of an asshole on Halloween it turns out. No one is suprised. Ghosts, goblins, and full review with spoilers under the cut.
Happy halloween month everybody! Halloween Havoc, aka my spate of halloween reviews continues as I roll into my first actual halloween episode review of the season! Yeah weird but so far we’ve covered demons getting exorcisims, little girls thinking they can raise the dead, and a horrifying plauge guided by the human incarnation of all that is evil, but not the actual holliday itself. Weird ain’t it? Well that changes with this so as always pitter patter.
It’s HALLOWEEN here in duckberg, and the mansion kids are planning Trick or Treating. Natural given Huey’s OCD, he has everything planned out a and naturally the kids all have unique and adorable costumes. Huey is gizmoduck, though with a GK instead of GD, a nice nod to “New Gizmokids on the BLock’ From the original series, an episode I haven’t seen but have heard of so theres that. It’s also because he likely wants to be Fenton’s kid sidekick which.. yeah please do that show. It’d be so fucking adorable. Plus Huey needs to be happy for once without having to go through a gauntlet of misery first. Let my boy be happy. +
Anyways Dewey’s is rather disapointing as it’s a “pirate on vacation” which while hilarious and very dewey, is kind of an anti-climax after months of speculation. Webby is some kind of ancient demon king as apparently in the duckverse the origins of halloween are based on appeasing various monsters, and this is so she can hide from them effectively. And Louie.. is Huey. Which means putting on Huey’s hat and a terribly insulting impression of him.
Meanwhile Donald and Della are an angel and a devil, with, which I didn’t realize until a tumblr post, Della’s costume being the one one of the boys wore in the classic disney trick or treat short. So that’s a nice nod. Donald wants to nicely give out candy while Della wants to terrify the children. Both end up disapointed as Scrooge instead boots everyone from the house and locks the mansion gates, as he doesn’t like giving out handouts which.. yeah that tracks.
As it turns out Scrooge also has his own plans.. which are gloriously ludicrous, sounding like something Glomgold would do: He’s going to go trick or treating himself, as when he was a boy, this was the one time of year a poor lad like him could get treats and he worked his tail off to do so and wants to prove he’s still got it. And as we see later SOMEHOW he still gets candy. It’s like if THIS was actually sucessful.
I would genuinely not be suprised if Scrooge too hadn’t tried to get an oil well from an elementary school this way. As for leaving candy out he leaves out an empty take one bowl which is as clever as it is douchey. So in other words Scrooge in a nutshell. So with handing out treats and scares at the house a non-option, Della and Donald go to see what Launchpad’s doing since Beakly.. is.. I have no fucking idea. NO I really don’t, she shows up for the ending, but before that? If they mentioned where she was I clearly missed it because she’s just.. missing for most of the episode and given every other member of the main cast is accounted for this episode, it’s VERY noticable. Give her more to do dangit!
So yeah we get our two plots, which i’ll cover seperately, then cover the ending where they dovetail together. Kay? Kay.
The Kid’s Plot centers around Huey and Louie.. specifically Louie wanting to go to a real life haunted house while Huey, as mentinoed has heavily established plans for their night. As for why Louie would go into danger, well as usual for when he does that theirs something in it for him: Rumor has it no kid has ever made it out with their candy.. thus leaving decades worth of candy just waiting to be nabbed and thus never having to trick or treat again. One big score for a payoff.. which didn’t make a lot of sense on first thought and my best guest is whatever preservative Gyro used for Oxy Chew, since it was still edible decades later, was probably spread to other candies since there’s no way in hell Scrooge would pass up a zillion dollar invention like that. Either way works. Huey is outvoted as Dewey naturally wants the excitment and Webby wants to see if her demon costume works on actual demons. However things quicklky go wrong as they ecoounter a dewey dummy and a killer dummy, as well as a monster clown and a gelatonous cube, which yes. I may not play DnD but I love these things.
The kids escape the house by accident while tryign to escape and Louie, still being a dick about things, finds out Huey DID know abotu the stash btu avoided it and Louie lays into Huey.. a bit much honestly, feeling he was agaisnt it purely because it wasn’t on schedule.. when you know, Louie could’ve asked to put it on schedule or actually given a damn about this, especially since Huey’s planned their trick or treats EVERY YEAR, so he’s had a full year to ask for this insane idea, or even the short time he’s known about it if shorter. Sure huey might of sputtered a bit, but Louie knows his other siblings, Webby and Dewey could convince him to loosen up and include the house. Louie’s just being kind fo a selfish dick here.. however i’ts not so overwhelming as to overpower the episode, as he has been before and while he should know better about risking his family’s lives after “Timephoon!” it is in character for him to protiize a big score like this over other people’s feelings and it’s not even the first time this season he’s done that. So fair enough.
But we soon get the second best reveal of the episode: As the kids are backed into a corner by monsters.. they grumble theres no candy and it turns out the monsters.. ARE REAL.. but their traditional monsters like frankenstein, dracula, and the bride of frankenstein, just dressed up like this to scare kids. As it turns out the WHOLE THING is an elaborate yearly scooby doo hoax to get kids candy, with the brilliant twist it’s done by actual monsters> As the vampire points out they can’t exactly shop during the day.. or he can’t at least, so this is how they get candy for the year.. at tribute if you will. Also the Gelationous Cube gets a nice hat as you see above. It’s a REALLY clever twist and I absolutely love it. I DID NOT see it coming and even with some spoiler screenshots I thankfully did not have it spoiled for me. REALLY good stuff.
As for why Huey’s been so obessed with his planning.. it’s actually really clever and really good character stuff: Huey simply got really into it because back when they were with donald this WAS their adventure for the year: the one time he let them cut loose and have fun, and he got a real kick out of it.. and Louie getting candy for life kind of destroys that. And that’s why Louie still works here.. because he instnatly realizes from this that was the problem and apologizes in his own way. It’s a nice bit of character from both: We’ve rarely had their pre-mansion lives factor in and it’s nice to see it for a change, and it’s nice to see Louie isn’t all dick, just like 20% dick. Unforutnately having no candy dosen’t appease the monsters who are pissed and descend on the kids.. until.. well for the until we have to back up a bit. So onto the adult plot we go! Della and Donald go to Launchpad whose dressed in a jason mask and ash williams/jason coveralls, weilding a power sander and having barricaded his place. After he scares some children, a bit too much, and Della and Donald are reallyd amn confused, he explains.. and we get the best reveal of the episode.. which given the above is saying something but it’s clear like the “blath” gag in “Astro BOYD” and the non-anthro ducks gag last week, this is one of those things Frank has been keeping under his hat all series. So as a boy Launchpad crashed his tryke into the mansion, ran into the monsters after reading off a candy wrapper.. and now assumes he unleashed a horde of monsters onto the world every halloween.. and tha’ts what he assumes the trick or treaters are. I just .. dont’ have a lto of words. This is pure comedy gold and easily the best gag of the episode and oen fo the best of the series. It’s clever, fresh, and really fits the character. Naturally Della wants to exploit this to terrify children ebcause she has underlying issues to adress while Donald tries to stop her. Thankfully before Della can get launchpad to scar children for life, Scrooge shows up and fights launchpad.. it’s part of why I also find scrooge’s dickery acceptable as launchpad beats the shit out of him.. it’s still an even fight, as not to suspend disbelief, but Scrooge still looses. I mean he gets out of being trapped in his candy bag easily because scrooge btu still, props to launchpad. So Launchpad decides to go face his fears and Donald and Della decide to stop him before he doesd a muder on a child. Which leads to an AMAZING climax as Launchpad scooby doo chases the scared monsters around as they have no idea what the fuck’s going on and hte monsters end up really enjoying his scar eof htem and bowing to the master. It’s a good way to end it. After Della explains what’s going on, Louie and Huey decide to explain halloween to Launchpad by taking him to the once house he hasn’t been: the Manor. Scrogoe has finally opened it up, with a line of kids no less, the monsters bond with some kids in line. As for why.. as Webby sadly figures out Scrooge is charging admission, thakns to dewey who thought an all night candy store was a good idea which.. yeah it is. So everyone gets a happye ending and the monsters hang a photo of hte night up in the mansion. A really sweet ending, pun uintended but eh it’s welcome.
Final Thoughts. Easily one fo the series best. While the characters are a bit exagerated in places, i.e. della, launchpad , scrooge and louie, it works for the plot well enough and the jokes well enough to make it okay. My only real complaint is a lack of even a cameo from Lena and Violet, as it feels weird to not even have htem in the ending, much less trick or treating with their friends. It just feels odd and could’ve used a throaway line. I get WHY not , as Lena even pre-blue would’ve destoryed the tension with the monsters, but it still feeels really weird to not have them. But it’s a minor quibble in an otherwise REALLY funny and creative episode and a fun halloween treat to revist every year from now on. Really good work. That does it for this week. For more halloween treats, follow this blog throughout october. So far i’ve done reviews of Demonicsim from Star Vs The Forces of Evil for Tomtober, Croaked, the Casagrandes day of the dead Special and the first of Marvel’s mini-series adapting Stephen’ King’s epic novel The Stand. And until next monday, or sooner if you decide to check any of that out, happy halloween!
