“One shot loading” famous last words Molly, wasn’t there a point in time when surprise neddy was gonna be a one shot? Can’t wait, as usual.

I just can’t stop thinking about Kate agreeing to tailor Anthony’s suit herself in a rush because he’s 18 years old and he doesn’t have a suit to wear for his father’s funeral, which he shouldn’t even have to attend yet.

And then Anthony sat consoling his mother in the back room of the church while Ben asks

“who’s Kate?”

“What?”

“Kate’s sent flowers.”

He can barely believe it, sure he’ll be wrong when Ben hands him the card. But it says

Anthony,

Look down if you need to.

That’s what she told him. When he said he wasn’t sure he could stand there and not cry.

“Look down if you need to.”

And for some reason it’s the day after his father’s funeral and he’s walking into a department store looking for a girl. Even though he’s not ready to date. He’s looking for Kate.

Kate is 29 now, she was about 26 when she met Anthony and he was about 28. In this one Edmund died when Anthony was a little older.

I actually had this thought because someone at my work put new shoes on the table and I said it was really bad luck, looked up the origins and it dates back to getting an new outfit for the dead to be buried in. And I thought “Huh. What if Anthony Met Kate at the worst time of his life?”

Omg Anthony is just too sweet with Neddy and Kate. I imagine he is the same with their future children as well. How does Neddy feel about being an older brother when Miles is born?

Neddy’s excited to be a big brother. His number one confusion is whether or not his Daddy is also the new baby’s Daddy as well.

“So my Daddy is also the baby’s Daddy.”

“I bloody hope so. Don’t remember anyone else on the honeymoon.” Anthony joked before Kate nudged him in the ribs.

“Yes, Baby. Same Amma same Daddy. You’ll be brothers.”

Neddy pursed his lips. “But you had to wait to find out who my Daddy was.”

Kate felt her eye twitch, “I knew who your Daddy was I just… didn’t know where he was?”

Neddy sighed, “Because of the special time.”

“Because of the special time.” Kate resisted the urge to clap her hand over Anthony’s mouth who was valiantly trying not to laugh.

“Will my brother be bigger than me?”

“Nope,” Anthony recovered, “You’ll be the big brother. Like me.”

“Like Daddy.” Neddy smiled at that, “But Uncle Benny is bigger than you.”

“Well, he might grow unfortunately. Uncle Ben never stopped, bit like an embarrassing giraffe.”

“But you’ll still be my Daddy too right?” Neddy blinked up at them. “And still my Amma when my brother gets here?”

Kate wrapped their son up tightly in her arms, cradling him between her and Anthony. “I will always be your Amma. Even when you’re old like Daddy. And I’ll still love you very very much. Always. I’m old and Granny Mary’s still my Mummy.”

“Granny Mary says you and Auntie Eddie are too old to be silly sometimes.”

Anthony is ready to hire a choir to come to the house and sing a song about how perfect Kate is. That’s what he feels she deserves. He is going to make the biggest fuss ever. Mary has helped Neddy get a Mother’s Day and then birthday present for his Amma the last few years which has been a job she’s taken incredibly seriously but it’s Anthony’s job now. Mary doesn’t really feel the need to make that clear to Anthony, she doesn’t think she needs to tell Anthony that he needs to be spoiling Kate.

Anthony is prepared. He’s taking Neddy to a jewellery store so he can pick out one fancy gift and then he’s giving Neddy free rein to be creative on another present. Neddy has very nice taste actually, very expensive taste it turns out as well but Anthony barely even looks at how much the diamond bracelet costs. Unimportant.

But on Mother’s Day he has an even bigger (possibly cuter) surprise for Kate. She and Neddy are going for an Amma/Neddy spa day. Anthony doesn’t have to hang around to take a photo of tiny Neddy in his robe with a facemask on his a massage chair drinking his juice. It’s too cute not to.

Even tho he knows that's he's getting a #1 daddy mug I know without a doubt that anthony will burst into tears when he gets it 😭 which might freak out lil neddy and amuse kate 🤭

Oh it’s definitely one of Anthony’s most prized possessions.

He had to stay quiet for a very long time when he unwrapped it. So quiet that Neddy’s brow started to furrow and he stopped bouncing excitedly.

“Don’t you like it, Daddy? My hand’s on it, see? And I drew you and me and Amma too.”

Still Anthony’s voice is thick when he pulls Neddy into his arms and Kate’s hand rubs soothing circles on his back. “I love it, Neddy. I’m just really happy okay? I’m really happy to have you and Amma.”

“We’re gonna make pancakes. I’m gonna mix em all by myself. And we’re going on a picnic!”

“I’m really excited, Neddy. Just let me hug first.”

“Okay.” Neddy shrugged, “You give good hugs. Like Amma.”

Neddy’ll probably never know how much it means to Anthony that he called him the best Dad. This is something Anthony had wanted for such a long time and it turns out he’s actually bloody good at it. He loves this mug. He loves Neddy’s smudged handprint and the blobs that he can tell are supposed to be him and Kate and their son. He loves Kate’s neat painting naming him #1 Daddy. He’ll drink every single one of his drinks from that mug from now on.

It’s later when they’re at the park and he’s watching Neddy giggling as he waits for Newton to bring the ball back that he wraps his arms tightly around Kate, kissing her soundly.

“I’m so in love with you.”

Her nose wrinkled a little as she smiled, “Not that it’s not nice to be told but any particular reason?”

“I just… I was already in love with you from the night we met. Then you made me a Dad and I love our family. I love who I get to be with you and Neddy. I love you.”

Kate leaned in and brushed her lips lightly against his. “I love you for you. But I also love that guy that was so excited to meet a kid who was completely sprung on him that he cried.”

“Daddy Anthony cries a lot actually.”

“Well, I love Daddy Anthony.”

Re Surprising Anthony in the Surprise Universe ... I guess it's good that baby #2 is a surprise instead (although so is baby #1 in fairness).

I think Neddy alone is the biggest surprise of Anthony’s life. Kate loves telling the story of how Anthony proposed to her in a panic when she told him he had a son.

“She never actually said no.” Anthony loves to muse. “I think my proposal’s still technically on the table.”

Kate rolled her eyes, “Ant, if you want to marry me now you can bloody well propose again.”

“Don’t threaten me with a good time, Kate.”

If Kate and Neddy are impressed with Anthony's house in Mayfair just wait till he whisked them to his country estate over a long weekend. the amount of stairs and rooms is unreal.

Neddy literally doesn’t know what to do when his Dad helps him out of the car at Aubrey Hall.

“This is a big house.”

“This is a big house.” Anthony agreed with a kiss to Neddy’s head before wrapping his arm around Kate’s waist. “That’s why I live at my other house.”

“Who lives here?”

“Granny Violet sometimes, with Greggy and Hy when they’re on holidays. Most of the time not anybody.”

“Are there lots of steps?”

“There are lots of steps.”

“Can me and Newtie run on the grass?”

“You can definitely run on the grass, buddy.”

“Is there a pool?”

“There’s no pool but there’s a lake, we can go swimming tomorrow.”

We know that Anthony loves surprising Kate and Neddy. What do they do to surprise Anthony, e.g. for his birthday or the first Father's Day? And how emotional does it make him?

I imagine that Kate would want to make this day special for Anthony, for their little family. And Neddy would be so excited to be let in the secret that he would barely contain his excitement.

Oh imagine for his first Father’s Day Kate wants to do something really special for Anthony. It’s Neddy’s first time celebrating Father’s Day as well and she wants them both to be able to remember it.

She does all the traditional things, she takes Neddy to paint a mug for Anthony that has his tiny handprint on it and #1 Daddy. She gets him a card, she gets all the ingredients to make him breakfast in bed with Neddy. And Neddy… cannot keep a secret.

Every time he sees Anthony he giggles under his breath.

“What’s up, Neddy boy?”

Neddy giggled again, “Amma says I can’t say. It’s a secret.”

Anthony raised his eyebrows, “A secret hey?”

“Yeah I can’t tell you about the Daddy mug. Or my pancakes.”

Anthony bit back a laugh, “Well, you better not then, buddy.”

Kate sighed, “so much for that.”

“Well, I appreciate the effort.”
