hello i may be coming to the end of my reserves of sibling horror movies that i can draw vague thematic through-lines through! i would love suggestions if anyone has more!

ideally they'd be stories where the focus is on the siblings' relationship as opposed to just having siblings in, but i've bent the hell out of that rule myself, so tbh i'll accept anything. basket case is on my list. this is a lawless place.

I'm sorry, and I say this as someone who loves a lot of books with an accidental pregnancy in them, but like...

If you're writing a contemporary romance set in the now times, and your heroine gets knocked up in like a one night stand, and she isn't like, specifically crazy and attempting to get pregnant by a random, if she's genuinely not at all trying to get pregnant or planning on a pregnancy...

I'm not saying you have to have her consider an abortion, but the idea of her being like "this is all hunky-dory", even if she wants a baby in the long term, is INSANE

Like... in this economy? In this current world? In a reality wherein even if you don't typically support abortion, you know you can't have one even if it threatens your life depending on where you live? Not second-guessing your accidental pregnancy or having negative feelings at all is INSANE and to me it makes your heroine unrelatable, even if she was knocked up by a random billionaire who later swoops in and takes care of her

I mean, I know someone who recently got pregnant by accident, and she was with a man she was planning on marrying and kids with in the long term, they lived together, they had a dog together, the proposal was discussed and right around the corner... and she wasn't happy and she wasn't immediately sure she was going to have it. She decided to in the long term, but she was like, SOBBING when she found out. Because it's a big deal and even if, after some contemplation, you're super happy about having the kid, it's at min OVERWHELMING.

idk I just... that's bad writing imo.

#romance novel blogging #like i guess i can see a heroine who wanted babies super badly and previously had been told she couldn't have kids #being happiER about it #but if it's accidental and the father isn't a sure thing in terms of his emotional or financial involvement #i don't think your feelings would be wholly positive unless you were like DELUSIONAL #and i'm gonna be real... i've known girls who were just thrilled to be pregnant at like 16 #and i was 16 at the time and i thought they were idiots and i still think they were idiots #you don't have to terminate but to not be at least a little freaked out is idiotic and naive and out of touch w reality #and i'll say it: if you aren't at least somewhat concerned about your totally unplanned pregnancy conceived without a steady partner...#idk man. maybe it's not a gr8 time to have a baby just yet

gotta love having a domino-like flareup of every single chronic illness and comorbidity u have to the point of being debilitated by pain and weakness and totally bedbound bc of it but also having a brain that wont stop screeching bc ur body wont let u keep meds (or almost any sustenance) down so ur off the thing that keeps u sane oh and also ur insanely dehydrated now and havent slept in going on 5 days and if ur stupid meatsuit doesn't allow u to rest v v soon ur gonna end up in a hospital like the last time this happened
