So in the second movie we see poppy and branch get, basically drugged by smooth jazz. Do you think different kinds of music can be like drugs to trolls who aren't off that genre? I'm just thinking about floyd & his ex band mates just getting high after putting on a funky record
I can't explain to you how much i love this ask, Sapphire! Like it made me obsessed sljhfdjd I was focusing so much on that ringpop pacifier from the third movie and thinking of other troll drugs I could come up with (like sour worms lol) that I completely forgot about smooth jazz!!

Eventually Floyd got up like in a trance, started dancing hippie-style, tripped over his own feet, and never got up
Tumblr media
Floyd is still 14 here and they are all morons. Also I think Floyd would in general be much more affected by this genre because he doesn't have any Rock Troll blood like the rest of them. Slowly they will learn through morally dubious trial and error... Pray for them.
the records Flea borrowed:

The most homoerotically charged scene in the Death Note franchise is not the feet washing scene you guys, you freaks and fools, it’s this moment from the musical

various oot doodles.
I consistently figure out the solution to a puzzle, but second guess myself and proceed to run around all of hyrule before caving and looking it up on zeldadungeon.net and learn that yes, I had it right the first time but was slightly off.

Randomly thinking about “tolerate it” (narrator voice: it was not random) and how under the cloak of fiction it is ostensibly inspired by works like “Rebecca” (which Taylor said she read during the 2020 lockdowns I believe?), with the line of “you’re so much older and wiser” indicating that the speaker is significantly younger and inexperienced compared to the person she’s speaking to and a pretty direct reference to the plot of the book.
But I saw something somewhere once that stuck with me about how it might not be referring to relative age between the characters but chronological age as in the passage of time in a relationship. And that made me think about how in a contemporary context, it might not necessarily be referencing an actual age gap between the two characters, but rather a sarcastic or cynical response to the man’s claims that he has matured (“you’re so much older and wiser [than you were before/than you were when we met/etc.]”), which then made me think about that line in relation to the woman. And that it could be taken like, “you act like you’ve matured so much in our time together and like you know everything, while I’m supposedly still stuck as the girl I was when we first met.”
Which then made me think of the “right where you left me” of it all and did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen time went on for everyone else she won’t know it and the bit in Miss Americana where she talks about how celebrities get frozen at the age at which they got famous, and how she’s had to play catch up in a lot of ways not just in her emotional growth but kind of in general. (Which also made me wonder if she’s ever been called out for immaturity/lack of curiosity/lack of education about things in her life…)
Which then made me think about the rest of the song, and @taylortruther’s posts yesterday about “seven” and “Daylight” and the way Taylor idealizes her youth yet contrasts it with an almost sinister reality in its wake, and the line, “I sit by the door like I’m just a kid,” because the discussion raised that her relationship let her recapture some of the childlike joy and wonder she’d lost. So this line is a double-edged sword: the speaker sits by the door with childlike hope that the person will come home and cherish her, but on the darker side, feels like the child dealing with the monsters she doesn’t have names for yet and the feelings of isolation she felt as she aged.
I’m not saying the song is necessarily autobiographical; like most of the songs on folkmore, it’s clearly a fictionalized story based on media she’d consumed and created, but we know a lot of the fictional songs were infused with her own feelings and experiences and… This idea swirling in my head picked up steam and now I kind of can’t stop thinking about it. Sorry but I’m a little obsessed now.
Like maybe it might start to shed light on why she identified so strongly with the novel in the first place…

No one asked, but my biggest inspiration for wanting to write folk horror specifically was how many other stories I read emphasized trying to escape from the danger. Which is fair. The two most common themes I noticed were: A. Character is from a city and gets overwhelmed once removed from civilization or alone and B. Character spends a lot of time running.
Except.
I grew up in the mountains. Not the cute "rich people vacation here" mountains either. I know how to survive in a certain type of wilderness. This is not scary to me.
What I cannot do is run. My legs do not do that. I walk with a cane most of the time. So running? Not even an option.
That is where the folk story inspiration comes in. Folk stories focus a lot on trickery and thinking to work your way out of a problem.
Horror-horror is misunderstanding the situation until the creep begins. You cannot know the story you have entered. There is false safety. There is powerlessness. You lock your own exits shut. The rabbit invites the fox in. Predator gets the prey.
But predators have to conserve their energy. Trophic level biology. Eating a rabbit is nowhere near as nutritious as the rabbit eating grass. A predator can only afford to strike when they know they have got an easy win. Killing is for eating.
But the prey? A prey has a magnitude more energy at their disposal. Should they manage to overcome the instinct of fear, the instinct to run, a greater, more profound instinct remains. Moose are armed with more than legs for a reason.
So maybe a city rabbit does not know to fear the fox. Foxes are cute and charismatic. Maybe once it is obviously too late, a city rabbit has no choice but to flee, no matter how fruitless an endeavor it surely is.
The mountain rabbit? The mountain rabbit knows better. Maybe the mountain rabbit cannot keep the fox out. Cannot stop the doors from locking. Maybe the legs cannot run, knows better than to try. Maybe the fox has teeth and claws and intent, but a rabbit is not defenseless either, and once the baser instincts are gone... well. For the predator, killing serves a purpose. For the prey? Killing is for fun.

It's so funny when people say things like "yeah well tenants don't have to deal with fixing maintenance issues themselves, being a homeowner is tough because you have to arrange for maintenance people to come and pay for it yourself"
Like where are these mythical landlords that promptly and efficiently address maintenance issues lmao. Yeah you have to coordinate it all and "pay for it yourself" as a homeowner, but I'd rather that and know I'm getting it taken care of than have to go back and forth with a landlord to get them to fix literally anything. Also, as a renter you ARE paying for it, with the rent. You think landlords are allowing themselves to lose money on maintenance issues lol?
It's like these people think you just call up your landlord and say something is broken and they go "ok I'll send someone over right away!" And the problem is fixed.

It's really more like I suddenly have less eyestrain while reading and doing handicrafts, and now I've got some sharp magnification for those things, and oncoming headlights no longer show me the sixth dimension when I'm driving at night. This is kind of an exaggeration for me. Still, the professional assurance that some farsighted vision modification has indeed occurred to your eyeballs in the last 20+ years can be a little jarring when you were *convinced* that you were just nuts and "seeing things" when you thought you might be developing symptoms of astigmatism. 🥸

awww, thank you @lolmiau0101 ! (is my inbox still being weird? why does that thing hate me...) i agree, the fanbase needs more writers!! come on, people! there's SO MUCH to work with - angst! smut! dark horrors beyond our comprehension, driving us all mad as some half-forgotten god slowly digests us!!!!!!! Cahara x GN reader, no warnings
i'm a firm believer in pansexual & panromantic Cahara, so I don't see gender really factoring into how he feels about a person
his love languages are definitely acts of service and physical touch - and he actually loves clingy people so please glue yourself to his side 24/7 he will revel in it
the dungeons are a difficult and dangerous place to be, so he by no means expects you to be at your best
i think Cahara would actually prefer a partner who's more often in need of some kind of help - probably someone easily frightened or more timid
someone onto whom he could focus his own fear and concern and desperate need to protect (which he also does w/ the girl - he'd die for her - and you - so fast)
every time you shy away from a sudden noise, discreetly tucking your body behind his shoulder, he feels like his heart might burst
you could just as easily hide yourself behind Ragnvaldr, in fact that might be the better of the two options, but you chose him to protect you
you trust him
that's what really does him in
he'd also love someone he could easily fluster - Cahara's a massive and shameless flirt; nothing delights him more than getting a reaction out of someone
if he can get your cheeks to go pink or cause you to bashfully hide your face...all with one well-timed smirk or wink...
it makes him wonder what would happen if he snuck up behind you, crept in close to whisper in your ear....
how would you react?
would you trip over your words, stuttering through your reply?
would you be speechless?
how much could he get away with?
a lighthearted flirtatious comment, sure
a hand at your hip or small of your back while avoiding an unfortunate encounter with one of the many creatures roaming the dungeons, obviously
but how long would his eyes or hands get to linger, how direct could he be about hist flirting before you noticed, eyes widening as your face heats up...
would you lose yourself for a moment, body unconsciously leaning into him, heavy and warm against his own...?
he's lost himself in thought over it quite a bit
often enough that you notice - and if you make a teasing comment about his glazed over eyes and flushed cheeks?
he's unable to respond as his throat dries suddenly. he's sure his heart skips a beat
you might be the death of him-
