I’m the anon that sent in all the Ruby stuff! It makes me so happy that you love her so much. I didn’t expect her to be such a beloved character to you and I was kind of nervous that you would have hated her tbh. ^^;

Something Ruby related — I had a fic about Twig and co. confronting the siblings before I ultimately scrapped it because I could not write villainous characters without making them feel cliché. I do remember this one line said by Ruby’s sister when she lashes out towards Twig:

“You wouldn’t get it. You have a cushy life style and you baby your daughter instead of actually raising her. We’re doing that ungrateful, spoiled brat a favor — we’re teaching her how to survive. You wouldn’t know the meaning of that with that silver spoon in your mouth.”

I don’t blame you for struggling with not making the siblings feel cliché— writing villainous characters gets 900x more difficult the second you don’t want to make them sympathetic. Ark was fairly simple for me to write, even in scrapped scenes where he was all-in with his villainous role during the events of the post-game. Twig’s aunt, meanwhile, gave me a heck of a hard time while I was developing her backstory.

18. if you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic

I don't really keep deleted sentences/paragraphs, unless they're full concepts for a scene that I might want to use in another WIP, but I did find a couple of sentences from an early draft of i would have said impossible [...] that got heavily edited by the final cut. I'll bold the parts that got kept in the final work:

"She likes to think she hid it well. She tried to, at least; bit back the most acidic jokes, tried to keep a hold on her sarcasm. It's not her roommates' fault if she's had a bad day, is it? So she tries. She listens, and she's patient, and she's affectionate -- and they seem happy. That must count as a success.

And yet, when she's finally alone in her room and ready to call it a night -- then Rose comes, carrying tea and cookies on a tray.

It's strange. She told Ma earlier that she'd like to be alone tonight, and before the door opened she only wanted to get into bed and forget everything until tomorrow morning. Then Rose came in, and she'd be lying if she said a single hint of her perfume and a single glance at her reassuring smile aren't enough to calm her nerves."

The gist of the passage remained more or less the same, but I hope it counts anyway!

19. the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic

I'm not sure I can choose the most interesting one -- I love learning and I've had a lot of fun with every rabbit hole I've found myself in for a fic! The most charming one, though, was definitely the little ornithology detour I went on while I was writing sonata for trio, which was a classic case of 'I only needed to find the right simile to add in this sentence, how the hell did I end up on the Wikipedia page for the American Robin?'. I learned a lot, and birds are so cute -- especially robins!! I had a great time reading about them :)

(I'm not counting my research on karst and sinkholes as a valid answer for this questions, because I already knew the topic well enough, but I did spend a lot of time fact-checking what I wrote. I don't want to spread misinformation!)

What would you say is the best/simplest way to mod BG3? Vortex, or some of BG3's ModManagers? Once the game launches, I would be curious to try it, but now when I peeked into NexusMods, I felt little confused about what method to use!

Hey there! I use the BG3 Mod Manager to mod BG3, which can be found here. I've found it's the simplest way to get them to show up in game, especially if you don't have any experience with adding codes to the game files to install them manually.

You would download the files from the Nexus, then put the pak files into the app data folder, which is usually found under: C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3

Once they've been placed in the app data folder, you can open the BG3 MM and drag any inactive mods over to the active mods like so:

Once you have all the mods you want to install, hit the export button at the top of the MM to install them into your game. And you're done!

One thing I highly recommend is reading the entire mod page to ensure there's not any mods that conflict with the one you're downloading, and following any instructions on the mod page regarding the order they may need to be loaded in on the left side. Like how patch mods will always need to be below the mods they're patching so that they don't overwrite each other.

anyway grace kelly in high society (1956) is actually good. while as far as she is from being a Comedienne™, she totally could have become one if she had had the chance to. like isolating her performance, her tracy is charming and funny, and i think her spin on tracy works and she is able to make it her own especially when you consider that tracy was originally written specifically with kate in mind. its just totally undermined by the fact that when unavoidably you compare the film as a whole to the 1940 version, the film is just not as good because the pacing of high society is horrible, and really just feels like they just cut and pasted the quippiest lines from the original and added some cole porter songs in between. and then of course there is bing crosby...........

i just saw someone say that "the vast majority of the userbase is complaining" about tumblr's recent layout change. i see this a lot after a change: people complaining about it (sometimes without saying what about it is bad, making it sound like either it's self-evident (it usually is not) or just that it's bad because it's change and change is always bad) and saying that everyone else is complaining about it too. i don't know how to tell you this but a) you don't follow every user on tumblr so how can you possibly know what "everyone" or "the majority of users" thinks about anything and b) ONLY THE PEOPLE WHO FEEL VERY STRONGLY ARE TALKING ABOUT IT!! people who are not bothered are not spending time posting about how unbothered they are! please look up "selection bias" and stop making me read this nonsense with my own eyeballs.

Nobody asked for this but uhhh relationship hcs that are basically just my au canon, except I kinda already mentioned the first two in another post:

Gordon and Henry are romantic partners, have been for a long time, will likely continue to be for as long as they both exist

Thomas and Percy are essentially like their sons. And in turn, the two of them are incredibly close and 100% view each other as brothers.

Edward is very close with pretty much everyone he meets, he even manages to pull a bit more of a soft side out of Diesel. They don't hang out per say, but Diesel will tolerate Edward's company more than he will any other steam engine.

When Rebecca comes along, she ends up joining the "I was adopted by Gordon and Henry and I didn't even know it" club alongside Thomas and Percy. She's a bit closer to Percy than she is Thomas. She likes to take a mail car alongside Percy and help him with his deliveries.

James is part of their family but not in any title sense. He's nobody's son or brother or anything, but he's still part of the family. Sometimes you don't need to apply to set dynamics, just being part of the group is enough.

Gordon is genuine friends with Sir Topham Hatt. They're both strict older men that can have trouble exhibiting their softer and kinder qualities, especially when on the clock, but they do care deeply for their friends and loved ones.

Henry and Emily enjoy hanging out in quiet spaces when they're not on the job. They'll get together and head off to the forest or just go for a run together. They don't really talk all that much either, it's enough for them to just be around each other while doing things they like. Sometimes, when Hiro visits, they'll include him on their hangouts. He appreciates the quiet just as much as they do...as long as he's not alone that is.
