That viral post that's going around about how people who write "book quality" mlm fic are too "normal" to publish and have real jobs so only "weird" people publish their "shitty" fanfic is so completely out of touch with reality and I am giving a massive side eye to everyone reblogging it.

Not only is it completely, easily verifiably untrue (you cannot enter any professional writing space without tripping over a dozen grizzled scifi writers who got their start by filing off the serial numbers and publishing their Star Trek fanfic even going back decades ago??? it's a whole thing?? plus how can you look at the mlm category on Amazon right now and say with a straight face that people aren't publishing shitty Spirk and Stucky fanfic??? Oh, honey...) it's also the perfect example of this kind of sneering elitism that true artists would never sully themselves by seeking profit, they do it only for the purity of the thing that always somehow leads back to, "no one should be paid to make art, actually."

The only reason you're seeing more published fanfic right now has nothing to do with the idealistic purity of your hypothetical government employee written smut of the past vs the debased scribbles of those awful straights of today and everything to do with the fact that a) self-publishing has created a voracious readership that wants a ton of content so it's become a viable, flexible income stream for many, especially disabled people b) anyone can publish now with self-publishing tools so there are less gatekeepers and c) lockdown got a lot of people into fandom and therefore writing who never tried it before.

And if you really think there's no "shitty" published mlm and no "book-quality" m/f writing out there that started as fanfic, then you are clearly not a reader so why are you even talking about this?

they’re not reylo because osha isn’t sidelined from the narrative to support his goals. from her perspective we see how it makes complete sense why someone like her, (a dedicated, loving yet outcasted former jedi) is questioning where she belongs. Qimir may want to use her and obviously feigning kindness to get her to trust him, but he also genuinely wants a pupil that unlocks the power of the dark side. And he sees that power in osha and it’s this obsession with her that’s undeniably tempting especially for someone who hasn’t quite been given back the loyalty and devotion that she openly offers.

its “toxic” because it’s supposed to be. and we love watching these dynamics unfold because they reflect the ugly truths of human nature. we do things to feel love even if it’s in artificial forms. we incessantly give with the illogical hopes that we might receive something back. how the dark side pulls someone such as osha therefore becomes realistic. and what is more appealing than to allow yourself recognition you never had. to let your emotions be unrestrained and even be your greatest strength. what else could you do when someone finally tells you that there’s more out there for you, and can grant you unspeakable power that’s always been just out of reach

I absolutely loved this beautiful Star Wars Fanart of the LGBT polyamorous ship of Reylux of the characters of King Skywalker (King Palparine), Armitage Hux and Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) together and above all because even though I am a big fan of the ships of Reylo, Kylux and Reyux together I also love the Reylux ship and above all because I really would have absolutely liked that in Star Wars Hux and Ben had joined The Resistance as well as their beloved King and then the 2 would also have met her and that they would not have hesitated to protect her from evil and that secretly Ben was already aware that Hux was the spy of The Resistance and then it happened that instead of Ben having betrayed it then both would have fled together but also and above all because I would have really loved that Hux and Ben had been saved and survived but also that they had left with Rey with The Resistance but I would also have liked the idea that Hux would have been a Force Sensitive just like his beloved Rey and Ben and also because at the same time because every time I think of a polyamorous relationship in Star Wars I can only think of Reylux's ship. So I hate Rey. Pretty much everyone who knows me knows that. I just don’t know if they know just how much, sense I try to sugar coat it on tumblr bc I know there are fans of her here (kinda like how you’ll never catch me sayin the twst characters I don’t like) Anyway I’m not even going to pretend that it’s rational or justified, it’s not and I’m an absolute jerk about it.
