1. Why I like them

i love ivan because he's unsolvable. there is literally no way for anyone to truly grasp how he thinks and feels. even the writers have admitted to not truly knowing what goes on in his head, and i find that so insane. to create a character so complex that it alludes the CREATOR HERSELF??? genius. i love it so much. there will never be enough thought put into his character because no one will ever reach a conclusion that will concisely and accurately describe Ivan. not even Ivan himself.

I also love the way he displays how people can develop when they really just have No One. throughout his entire life, ivan has always been alone. never an available support system, never a parental figure, never a place for him to vent his emotions. this lead to an absurd personality, and an insatiable desire for attention. when ivan loves someone, he craves their attention so desperately that he doesn't care whether it's gentle or violent. it's just so. GHHRHRHEHH

2 . Why I don't

probably for the same reason that i DO like him. because there's no true way to understand him, i always feel like im mischaracterizing him in some way whenever i talk about him or make content about him.

i also think it's very tragic how despite all the complex layers he has, ivan remains static in terms of development. he starts off with the same ideas and behaviors that he dies with, and he dies in a colorful burst of his own bottled up emotions, aggression and softness intermingling; mourning, rage, sadness, wanting, and joy all becoming one singular drive to do the things he did.

1. Why I like them

i like how distrustful she is. how she completely contradicts everything everyone believes about her--but solely when she's with mizi. to everyone else who isn't more observant towards her, she's just an ornament. a doll. closed off and pretty, meant to be looked at but never to love, never to be loved. and then mizi completely shatters that side of her, reaches in and grasps the emotional, fun-loving side of her, and suddenly she's bursting with life, as human and happy as it gets.

i also like how sensitive she is, despite trying her best to hide it. she cries easily. she gets mad easily. she gets insecure easily. she feels, she feels so much, and it's barely hidden beneath her disinterested persona.

2. Why I don't

theres nothing that i can think of that i don't like about sua. from her impact on the story to her personality to her design, it's all so cool. so for this part im just gonna name a fault in her morality that i love.

she hid from the truth by ensuring mizi never found out about it. she couldn't see a way out, so she found a way to ignore everything at the expense of mizi's happiness. she went into alnst knowing full well what it would do to her lover, even after ivan called her out for it, and died the happiest she could have been.

isabeau's confession at the end of ISAT is constantly living rent-free in my head it's so fucking good. right now i'm obsessed with the way he responds to siffrin saying "i love you too" because just. imagine you're siffrin and for so long now you've believed that you were horrible disgusting manipulative unloved and unworthy of love and yet. your best friend is telling you he loves you. and you feel that you love him too (in what way? the same way that he loves you? you're not quite sure yet, but stars, you feel like your heart is going to burst out of your chest, he means so much to you) so you tell him so.

and he responds by telling you he already knew that because he has eyes.

you're siffrin and you are kind passionate protective and so loved and full of love for your friends, your family, and yet you hate yourself so, so deeply that you don't see any of that but isabeau does. according to him it's written all over your face, apparently--the face you're always trying so hard to hide with your hat, which as the universe would have it, you don't have anymore!! and he sees you and he loves you and he knows you love him back, even after you said and did such horrible, cruel things to him and the rest of your family that you know they didn't deserve, after you almost broke the world trying to keep them by your side, somehow isa understands you and still loves every single part of you. and you love him, you love him, you love him because how could you not?

ashlyn (mc) gets reaped into the games, meets the others, and its basically the plot of the first book where I kill everyone off except for Ashlyn and her love interest (probably aidan) so yes this means that the twins, Logan, and Ben would be tragically killed (I might kill aidan too for the heck of it idk)

ashlyn (mc) gets re-reaped into the games as a victor, and meets the others, who are all previous victors from the previous games and they try to find a way to get out of the hunger game (basically the plot of the second book)

the first one would def be more angsty (I would LOVE to write it omg I LOVE angst) but the second one seems more canon compliant with sbg. anyways let me know what you guys think!

Since this takes place entirely in a whole different universe, KSE reluctantly agrees. At first, there mighttt be some horrifying moments, but past all of it is a genuinely interesting story that HAS HIM INVESTEDDD.

thinking about how any animal doing something vaguely weird or annoying or just plain stupid that evan comes across gets nicknamed ‘barty’, like a raccoon going through hogwarts bins or a bird that accidentally flies into a window

and barty goes to a pet shop place to find some disgusting creature as payback but while he’s there this little blonde kitten takes a liking to him and ends up falling asleep on his thigh, and bartemius simp crouch jr literally can’t help himself

and that’s the story of how barty brings home evan the kitten who quickly ends up ruling the roost in the slytherin dorms, which evan the human h a t e s, especially when it decides to sleep curled up on his pillow every night

barty will whine for hoursss if evan tries to move the cat, which was originally meant as a joke but when a sleep deprived evan stormed into barty’s bed because he refused to share with ‘that mangy cat’, barty quickly ups the ante and they end up sharing most nights just to stop the headache evan gets from bartys screeching

Brinky Love Confession and their emotional struggles ramble bc I thought about this last night and I needed to write it down bc it was driving me insane.

It’s kinda angsty

I am a firm believer that Brinky would have the messiest love confession ever, absolute emotional wreck of a confession.

Pinky is obviously the one who confesses first, Brain would go his entire life without ever revealing his feelings for Pinky and take them to his grave if he didn’t.

Now, Pinky might be the more emotionally intelligent of the two but he isn’t exactly emotionally stable. Neither of them are, they just act in different ways.

Pinky can quickly go from happy to sad to happy, he can be loud and yell when he’s frustrated but usually goes away to collect himself when he’s upset. Pinky is “smarter” in this way since he can actually usually calm himself down and can reflect on emotions.

Brain however is not in touch with his emotions. He turns sadness and fear into anger and frustration. He builds a barrier and refuses to take it down, even if it harms him as well. He completely shuts down and makes accusations, anything to make him look better because his ego is being hurt every time he lets himself get emotional, even if it’s anger.

As for the confession, like I said, Pinky is 100% the one who tells Brain. Pinky has showed signs, some more vague and some very obvious signs that he’s attracted to Brain and shows romantic interest. Now here’s a thought.

Is Pinky aware of Brain’s attraction? Is Brain even aware of all the things and acts he’s done that shows how he feels for Pinky?

I think Brain is slightly aware but he pushes it back into his mind, afraid to act on it, maybe some internalized fear? Who knows.

One might think Pinky’s too stupid to realize all these signs from Brain. But I beg to differ, Pinky is very good at reading Brain, despite his low intelligence. As I said before, Pinky is obviously the more emotionally intelligent one, he’s even told Brain “Maybe if you were more sentimental.” when Brain brought up his crush on that one sea lion.

Pinky have also on multiple occasions commented on Brain’s odd or unusual behaviors, he also tries to cheer him up in ways he knows usually work. It’s quite obvious that Pinky knows Brain on an emotional level that Brain might not even know himself.

So, does Pinky notice and is aware of Brain’s feelings? I think so, but he also knows that Brain isn’t any good at expressing his emotions so I like to think that during his confession, he takes Brain’s feelings and behavior into account.

Brain, being the emotionally constipated mouse he is, he can’t comprehend having his walls broken down and he feels exposed. He barely registers Pinky’s confession, because why would he? He doesn’t need to listen to that drivel, he doesn’t need a romantic relationship, he doesn’t need anyone. But now he’s bare, exposed and vulnerable. Pinky can read him like an open book, and that doesn’t sit well with Brain. He’s afraid of being vulnerable, helpless.

Brain turns this fear into anger, as always. He says things he shouldn’t or wouldn’t say. He doesn’t even recognize himself, his walls are shattered and all he can spew is in self defense. He knows that Pinky is not a threat, but logic is out the window and he can’t stand not being in control of the situation.

Pinky, who’s opened up his heart and (naively) expected Brain to open up too is upset and quite honestly disappointed. Of course he sees through this act and knows Brain is upset and afraid, but he doesn’t get why Brain can’t reflect on it like he does? And why can’t Pinky help him? Didn’t it feel better having someone else tell your feelings for you?

They both need a break from each other, Brain is still in defensive mode but without anyone to take it out on, he doesn’t know what to do.

Pinky is trying to calm himself down, he loves and cares for Brain, he really does. But it’s hard to see the one you love in such distress over something that should be wonderful (in Pinky’s words). Love is supposed to be happy, not sad. Why doesn’t Brain realize that he’s happy when he lets his guard down? All those involuntary and carefree behaviors, the hugs, the gazes, the “my dear pinky”, the rare occasion of hearing him speak fondly of Pinky, that he doesn’t deserve him and that he’s too good for him.

Brain thinks about what Pinky told him, really thinks about it. The confession that is, not the breaking of his emotional wall. His feelings are reciprocated. So why didn’t he just tell Pinky the same and let himself be happy?

Well, because in his eyes he doesn’t deserve it and he’s convinced himself that he doesn’t need it either. What has Brain ever done that got Pinky of all people to love him? Obviously he doesn’t realize that Pinky sees through his persona and knows Brain for who he is. He’s passionate, determined, caring and loving when he lets himself be. All those things are under a protective layer, and that layer is what Pinky wants to get past. Both for himself and for Brain.

Pinky of course, in his mid-emotional-ramble, said all of this in his own “Pinky” way. It only clicks with Brain just now though, and now he feels bad, guilty, unlovable.

Brain wants to go to Pinky, his defense mechanism and ego be damned, he wants to spill his own feelings to Pinky. But he can’t bring himself to do that, not just yet, but god he wants to, he knows that’s the right thing to do, but it’s so difficult.

Pinky is conflicted over whether to give Brain time or speak to him a second time. He might push Brain even further away, but at the same time, he saw that look on Brain’s face. It was hopeful, even if only a little glimpse, he let his guard down for just a split second. He wants to see that again, he wants it to last longer, forever. He wants Brain to let himself be happy. Brain never gives up, so neither will Pinky.

Pinky goes to Brain.

It’s quiet, it’s desperate, it’s tearful, it’s physical and it was about damn time.

They try to talk, both trying to be the bolder one in this situation. But it’s pretty damn difficult to have a conversation when you’re all over each other in a desperate attempt to be closer than you’ve ever been before. All emotional guards are down, all emotions are spilling out, it’s been years of pining, some years they didn’t even know they were in love. For all they knew, it was merely friendship. That’s what they thought at least. But they’re aware, they’re inseparable and it will hurt. They know it will hurt, they know it will be a rocky journey for the both of them.

But it’s so worth it if they can kiss each other like they currently are, forever.

omg hi if it wouldn't be a bother i'd love if you could expand on your perspective on curly's character representing how patriarchy, rape culture, etc, negatively effect men?

I think Curly is there to represent the idealic person for the scenerior but in a lot of wrong place wrong time and a sort of deconstruction.

Curly’s enabling is never just the “He wouldn’t do that, he’s my friend, I know him.” type. Yes, he is not nearly as concerned as he should be with Jimmy’s behavior but he’s not completely blind to how he can be and is aware that Jimmy is just a guy who had it rough. He clearly is very keen on keeping Jimmy calm for the trip, very accommodating to all of them in a way that he honestly should be but can be used to explain away favoritism. If everyone can get away with a little something than it can then be extended to Jimmy. A big problem of Curly’s is he extends to much curtesy to everyone which a lot of people ignore to just focus on Jimmy and his relationship.

In specifics of rape culture, he’s the sad truth of people don’t immediately cut off the abuser. There is a lot of this in irl cases that can range from the inability to open the selfish not wanting to but here it’s because his relationship with the abuser is also not healthy/abusive, falling into the former with how confined they are despite how it can be seen as bros protecting bros due to how underplayed emotionally unhealthy relationships between men can be. His relationship with Jimmy is not just one of wanting to protect him from himself but keeping him docile, safe to bring around others. There is a tension in almost all of their private scenes where Curly is trying hard to make sure his words are understood and don’t set him off. It’s subtle but real and an aspect of RC that gets overlooked when it’s comes to men coming forward themselves or on behalf of others. The way they can’t directly oppose each other because their safety may be the least of their concerns. They know men and in this case he knows this man won’t target him but the others, especially Anya, case point: not wanting her to tell Jimmy alone.

There is an inherent intimidation that can also happen in male spaces we see Jimmy use due to the specific social condemnation effect he has with Curly. Even if he is a bad friend to Curly, he is a dear friend and a lot of apprehension with men on the side of Curly in RC comes from that social anxiety, that fear and the very real idea you or the person you were trying to help will be further retaliated against/isolated just like we see happen to an extreme in canon. We don’t know how much Curly and Jimmy interacted between the party and the crash. We can assume they didn’t at all or perhaps went on as normal, but we know something changed after the conversation with Anya both at night and in the cockpit.

I think the card being in the locker shows he was gonna make the complaint, taking her ID to get her numbers for the report as it isn’t there before hand. With the recent reblog of how complaints have to be filed, he was likely storing it, possibly it was close to a time he could send something if it was even possible. Though everything was inevitably too late.

Curly is the ideal man on paper in terms of a patriarchal system. In shape, handsome, the top of the pecking order, competent or otherwise on top of his perineal duties. The issue is he is deeply unhappy just as someone like Jimmy who reflects all the negatives. This should be what he wants but he’s realized it’s unfulfilling, boring and he’s given up too much of himself to get up a ladder he doesn’t even remember why he climbed in the first place. He is not keen on keeping that status, I am a contrarian in thinking he honestly didn’t care if the report when on his record, more so he was in shock it happened at all. Didn’t want to believe his friend actually did it and he of all people would have to be the one to turn him in for it. It’s selfish and it’s a personal thought but it’s real. It’s denial because even if you know it’s for justices sake, you grieve the friendship you had and the perceptions that were shattered. It’s not supposed to sound good or noble or kind because it isn’t, it’s human.

All together I think Curly represents a big way these systems negatively affect the men that everyone assume benefits. He’s unhappy with the power he has because it ties him to responsibilities that bring him no fulfillment, he also gets retaliated against by Jimmy because he was never immune and in a way was aware of it. He’s unequipped and nervous to handle such a delicate situation because it isn’t protocol, there’s no protocol. He followed the rules of all the concepts mentioned, trying to do the right and normal thing and it either left him with nothing to show for it or damned him and others in the end.

This is a shorter post than I would write but I just feel like I’ve tackled these aspects so much individually or in lumped together posts that unless it’s something specific I will just create run on tangents.
