thinking about malevolent and how there is no way getting around that arthur's not a very good person. especially after some of the stuff we found out in part 31, but that's been a well established fact for a good while now. he's not a particularly great person and he does some awful things and some of his actions are straight-up horrifying and still we as an audience love him. still the story sympathizes with him. because he's just a person, trying his best, and people break and people do shitty things and that doesn't mean they never deserve understanding or love. to me, the point of malevolent is that, even when our actions deserve nothing, the sheer act of being human makes us - our very selves regardless of the things we've done - deserving of love

It really is sad seeing how masculinity is shamed for when it comes to being nonbinary or within the queer community. Like I saw a twitter post about someone who was shaming another nonbinary person because they are masculine and are really fit, yet because they weren't feminine or androgynous enough and leaned more masculine that led to people attacking them. It's like-- nonbinary people don't have to appear any certain way for you?? That isn't the point of being nonbinary, like at all. AMAB nonbinary people who wish to be masculine presenting exist and same for AFAB nonbinary people who want to present themselves as masculine also exist. Let people be, their gender or how they identify themselves doesn't align with how they look. Let them present themselves however they would like too.

Working with kids is the best thing ever because they will just do or say literally anything and never elaborate on it, they just do stuff, once they are done they leave, or sometimes they aren’t even done with whatever they are doing and STILL leave

There’s no beginning or end with kids, things just kinda happen, you’re just there to witness whatever they are up to and maybe prevent them from killing themselves or getting hurt, be their assistant, and that’s about it

Aside from that specific trope, there's this pervasive sentiment that pops up a lot in fandom and shipping that's like "these two characters are really passionate and insane about each other, therefore they must inherently be romantically/sexually attracted to one another." Boo hiss again. Personally sometimes I think it's way more fun if characters are absolutely batshit about each other without sharing any attraction. Not always, not necessarily often, but sometimes.

I also personally do not really enjoy fix-it fics, especially not time travel fix-it fics. And given that I adore tragedies, I'm big into multiple fandoms where time travel and/or fix-it fics are super popular.

Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?

The biggest one for me is Miraculous Ladybug lmao. I watched one (1) episode of that show because of the tumblr popularity, and it super wasn't for me, but for some reason every single ML fan comic I see on this website slaps. They're always so fun and good. I love seeing ML stuff on my dash. It's like the only thing I've ever read fic for without knowing the source material.

Lesser examples include Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and DC comics (esp Batman). I have read The Hobbit, seen Star Wars episodes 4 and 5 when I was like 10, and seen The Batman+a small amount of DC cartoons when I was a kid. Everything else I know about these things comes from cultural/fandom osmosis lmao.

I think that anyone who says you have to put away childish things to Really Become an Adult is selling you misery at a premium. There are moments and places and sounds and smells, snippets of conversation and memories of people that we can never get back, of course, but even things lost to the passage of time walk in parallel step with us for as long as we let them. 

Curiosity and wonder and delight and whimsy are so often regarded as frivolous, as unserious vestiges of times in our lives before work and worry...but so what if they are? Be silly, find adventure in things, stand still in the moments where you realize so so so much time has passed, but you can still remember the way the wind sounded rattling the window of your childhood bedroom. 

All we are is a glimmer of starlight in a vast universe, and it’s wonderful. Strange and improbable and so deeply wonderful. It’s worth letting yourself find those things in your own life, too.

There are always different interpretations. Other interpretations (or even deliberate misinterpretations) can be just as rewarding. So don't say romance is the only way to see a relationship, just own that you find that interpretation more interesting. Don't put your opinion down to something in the text that you can't control, stand up for it. via hellfridge

Shipping is fun and all but I swear every single time someone makes a comment, whether as a joke or in a legitimate analysis, about there being "no other explanation" for a pair's interactions, I lose just a bit more of my sanity

Like, no, you guys don't get it. Romance is not about the Amount of devotion, it's about the COLOR. the FLAVOR of it all. a character can be just as devoted to their platonic friend as they are to their romantic partner, and they don't love either of them more, just differently.

But because the majority of people still have it stuck in their minds that romance exists on the highest tier of love, I'm stuck seeing endless takes that boil down to "these two care about each other too much for it to NOT be romantic" as if that's the core determining factor to how literally any of this works

In conclusion: stop telling me that I don't understand the story if I don't interpret the leads as romantic, I am TIRED
