Alright allow me to overanalyze on Asa Emory’s character, if you don’t mind... 

THE COLLECTOR AND HIS DOGS

Basically this is just me nerding out over dogs and the life of having working dogs also the connection Asa might have to them, so don’t mind me. Now if you do not know I am a person who owns 3 dogs myself, is a big dog lover, have worked with many many different types and characters of dogs, and also follow different sports and clubs with dogs involved. So from experience and research this is where I get this info I'm gonna share ;) hope you enjoy my ted talk🔪💕

In the first movie The Collector Asa has a German Shepard chained up outside the home, using it as a first of many strings in protection. Later on in the movie you get a better look at the dog and what it can do; searching and wanting to lock onto a target, any target. Now this is different from protection work and leads more into a German dog sport called schutzhund. This sport is the ability to test just how good your working dog is at working, it is based from protection work, to tracking, to obedience, to bite. 

This training style is very severe in some cases, and this is what the police use for their training more often than not. It takes a very particular person to have dogs in this sport, even if it is just for fun. And we all know just how particular Asa is lol. 

Now who is the type of person to put their dogs into this? A very interesting one. First of all, anyone who is really into this work will hand pick the type of dog they want, from breed to working lines (meaning how well the dogs parents did in competition, as well as how the breeder is with other dogs). Now you can choose as well where you get these dogs from, could be from Europe to America doesn’t matter, it is up to the soon to be owners choice. Either way these dogs are expensive and need heavy hours set into them to achieve the level of training Asa has his dogs working on, and even more so in the second movie by working together. These people often have a huge thing with power and control, which we already know from Asa, but also they usually need/have extreme self-discipline wanting to be perfect in every aspect, could be a dogs position next to you if they aren’t as close that gets you fucked up because they could not defend you properly. Everything needs to be flawless. 

With all this work, self-discipline and control it can be extremely rewarding, especially for Asa in this case to see someone get their face ripped off, it is in his sadistic nature. Even having the dogs presence is often enough to intimidate anyone, in a lot of police work situations people will flee or hide somewhere if they know it is just a single officer, but once the dog gets brought in people more than likely surrender, fast and easy. If anyone of Asa’s collection pieces chooses to run or hide, the dogs can sniff out where they go, they can out run people and will bite, at least without the dogs people could have a chance. Another good thing about dogs is that they alert, if Asa is working and the dogs bark he will know exactly where that person is easily. 

So to overview what I just rambled about before getting into the next topic, Asa is a very control oriented person, needing to have power over something and be very strategic in doing so. Getting off on the intimidation and fear factor of his victims, and even more so when people get bit. These dogs are also for his own protection, caring about himself and his beautiful collection first, and maybe even caring for the double life he leads more. It also can make Asa’s life easier, not having to always make the kill himself, and this leads me to believe that it isn’t really the kill that gets him off, it is the chase, the skill he has taken and the victims skill of getting away that drives him. Almost uses the dogs in more annoyance just because people aren’t dying and getting in his way or messing with his stuff. I mentioned skill a sentence back and I want to bring it up again because I think it’s important; Asa can appreciate the skill of his victims, it makes it more thrilling but also I think he has a deep appreciation for his dogs skills, being extremely hard working and intelligent creatures, like himself and some victims. Now with the thing about Asa taking his favorites, he is trying to find the right one, the perfect one, making more sense for him to have dogs, Asa can mold his perfect dog, using only working dogs, dogs that love to please and want to be perfect for you.            

Now moving on to the next topic - Connections. So this could go two ways, a good way and a bad, no in between. The majority of people grow extreme bonds with their dogs, especially their working dogs, all the hours you put into the training and you have to trust your dog and they have to trust you. In the military specifically dogs build one of the strongest connections with the soldiers, they are their comfort because they see the same things and yet still have a wagging tail, they can save each others lives, protect one another and appreciate each other deeply for skill and for love. Now there are other people, most common in police work because the dogs can sometimes be too intense or have certain contracts but, these people don’t take their dogs home or when they are home they stay in one room or kennel mostly. Sometimes there are dogs that just can’t adapt to home life and just want to work, but sometimes they can make wonderful family and house dogs. At the same time it is up to the owner choosing what they want for the dog. 

Something strikes me with Asa that he genuinely loves his dogs but at the same time some of his actions make me think twice. In the first movie the dog is chained up away from the dangerous traps of the inside, he is protecting the dog at first, but moving along in the movie he releases the dog into the home going after Arkin. Now this is the dogs job mind you, so Asa trusts him, but also you can see a lot of traps or dangers have been removed so the dog can work safely and knows the dog is smart enough to avoid some of the obvious traps. He lets him work but also wants to help the dog, perhaps not wanting the dog to get seriously hurt or maybe just finally finishing Arkin off. Also the scene where Asa is outside and calls off the dog when he is biting a guy, again maybe for safety of the pet maybe just to watch the man struggle. Ultimately the dog dies in the first one, but Asa watches very carefully when the dog is going after Arkin, and there is almost a ‘sadness’ or maybe curiosity to Asa’s face, and I think he knows in that moment his dog is sadly dead. 

In The Collection you don’t see the dogs really work that much, you only see them barking at Abby then barging in the room with Asa, so it is hard to really see any connections. From both movies I would say Asa takes the dogs with him for the most part, takes them to ‘jobs’ and brings them to the hotel. Now at the hotel it is important to notice the dogs do not have free range or else we would see them probably a lot more. My best guess is that Asa cares for the dogs and doesn’t want them getting hurt by his traps until he knows who the people are, that’s when he loses it, literally going in all guns a blazing. When he does bring the dogs out they are only with him, aka his control and protection side coming out. Now in this scene Asa has an assault rifle that he uses in tandem with the dogs, but I noticed carefully watching the scene, Asa never shoots towards the dogs, he lets them work, again trusting them deeply, if he did shoot around not caring for them the bullets would have defiantly hit Arkin and wounded him or killed him. Of course after this scene we don’t really get to see Asa in any sort of grief, (which I really wanted lol) he is just busy trying to kill everyone else and not get caught by the cops. 

Then in the final scene of The Collection we see Asa’s home, this is like months after the events at the hotel from what I can tell, but we see no dogs, not a trace. Simply he maybe could not have gotten anymore dogs since his collection was destroyed and he doesn’t really need dogs to protect his stuff any longer, or maybe Asa did not find new dogs that he wanted yet, or just maybe they were locked in the house away in a room, keeping his house spotless. Who knows it is all up to the person watching, I don’t think they expected a dog crazy person to be diving this deep lol.

So my final thoughts. I personally think Asa really likes his dogs and they bring him good company and something to have power over in his regular life. Once you have a dog, especially dogs that take so much work and training time it is very hard for people to just stop having dogs. Also being a biologist I think he can deeply appreciate them for their intelligence and skill. If anyone says Asa would like cats you can fuck off because look what happened to the cat in the first movie, it was clumsy and got itself killed, plus look at his house, not a thing knocked over lol, a cat would never do for him. Hello! I was wondering what sort of requirements pigeons would have and the whole breeds thing. (Sorry long ask) How much room would a pidge need? Like cage size and also, how would one go about excersizing them? Do you reccomend letting them fly free for the day and come back at night? Would they possibly get hurt or catch a disease/parasites out there? Are they expensive to keep? And what breeds are the most friendly/affectionate? Thank you :) 1/2

You know how some dogs have been bred to look nice but have a multitude of health problems (ie pug, chihuahua, great dane ,dachshund ect) does that happen in pigeons too? And if so, how does one know which might be genetically predisposed to getting problems later on or just generally wont have the best quality of life? 2/2

These are really broad questions. I’ll have to break them down and answer ne at a time, so I apologize in advance for the length of time it will take me to get this ask out.

“How much room would a pidge need? Like cage size...”

Pigeon breeds range in size from the tiny Valencian Figurita and Portuguese tumblers (vying constantly to be the worlds smallest breed) to the literally chicken sized Giant Runt.

So the amount of space required depends on the breed’s size and energy level.

Homers are about the average.

Here is an old picture from before the loft’s redesign of two of my breeding pair in their pens.

These are labrador sized dog crates, outfitted with a rabbit’s corner litter pan as a nest box and a garden stake cut to length as a perch.

Pigeons need flat perches because they are cliff nesters. Round ones like branches or dowels hurt their feet.

If yours is going to be a house pet, the cage should be what a crate is for dogs: A safe place to sleep or wait for you to get home until it learns the house rules.

Pigeons are intensely social birds that are happiest with the freedom of motion to come see you when they want, and go occupy themselves when they don’t want company.

The nice thing about pigeons is that they don;t need to be all over you all the time. They are independent enough to go do their own thing, but want to be able to come check on or spend time with you.

Which dovetails nicely into your next question: “how would one go about exercising them?”

A pigeon allowed to free range indoors will exercise themself plenty.

If you cannot let them free range the entire house, letting them out in your bedroom while you are home will be fine for most breeds.

“Do you reccomend letting them fly free for the day and come back at night?”

Absolutely not!

“Would they possibly get hurt or catch a disease/parasites out there?”

That possibly could be turned all the way up to a guarantee.

Performance breeds like racers, rollers, and tumblers are over bred to make up for the losses during training flights from inclement weather getting a bird lost, hawks snatching them out of the air, and diseases picked up from wild birds and brought back.

“Are they expensive to keep?”

After the initial cost for set up and the vet check to make sure they don’t have parasites and aren’t ill, the upkeep for a few is shockingly cheap.

You can get a lab sized kennel for $50-70. If you want an even bigger space, Great Dane kennels are about $80.

You can buy a wooden garden stake from pretty much any hardware store for about $5.

The bunny corner box is not required if you aren’t breeding. Pigeons will just as happily use a dollar store dog bowl to nest in.

My vet bill for a new bird is $70: $35 for the exotics wellness exam, $20 for a throat swab, and $15 for a fecal test.

I expected feral and lost birds to have lice, worms, parasites, and infections, but was floored when every single show bird I ever purchased from breeders did too!

You’re better off in the long run assuming something needs to be healed, cleaned out, or cleared up and just finding out from the vet as soon as they get there what needs treating.

Clear it out then, and an inside bird is pretty well set.

You can buy 50lbs of feed for $20 at Tractor supply.

And 50lbs of calcium supplements for $11.

I have 36 pigeons and 2 ringneck doves right now, so 50lbs lasts me a little over a week.

But a single bird will eat off of that for over half a year.

“And what breeds are the most friendly/affectionate?”

Most of the Exhibition breeds are pretty friendly, but from most to least kennel space, here are the ones I have enjoyed the most hands on:

Utility kings

These are the size of chickens and will need a LOT of flight time. 

They are a meat breed, so they are genetically predisposed to docility, but also obesity.

They do best free roaming the house full time. It’s really hard to find a cage big enough to comfortably accommodate them.

Giant Homers

Utility kings are a squabbing breed, designed for constant production of big squabs, so they are more bird-shaped than the Giant Homer, which was bred to be eaten as an adult, and then for the aesthetic of a fat round bird.

Like the Utility King, Giant Homers are known for their mellow, gentle temperaments. But after having worked with them for a few years, it seems mostly to be that they are simply too big and heavy to evade effectively, and they know it.

Along with being prone to obesity, their sheer weight puts tremendous pressure on their feet and they can develop huge, painful calluses.

I like my mixes better than their purebred parents, because they inherited the temperament with out the bulk that causes painful or dangerous health issues.

Lahore

Named for the city in Pakistan where they were developed, the Lahore is a huge, gorgeous bird. 

Their wing span more then the size of their actual body makes them difficult to cage, so it’s best they have the run of at least a bedroom.

these are laid back and mellow, but not exactly touch me birds. If one gets on your shoulder or in your lap, feel honored.

Frillbacks

For the same reason as the Lahore, Frillbacks can be difficult to pen indoors. 

An individual can be happy in a Great Dane sized kennel, but frankly won’t fit comfortably into anything smaller.

These are very laid back, not especially flighty, and quite friendly. Young birds are very much cuddle bugs, and the individual pictured still comes up to me to nurse between my fingers.

No known associated health issues, but individuals with especially long muffs can stay especially still because the shaft of the feather under the skin of their feet is bigger around than the bones of their toes, making walking painful.

Show standards require large muffs, so it can be hard to find them with muffs like Bean’s here.

There is one breeder that raises hers with short muffs and entirely clean legged. I’ll be happy to link you.

Voorburg Shield Cropper

These leggy, slender birds are a pain to house because of their height, but the only breed I know of with points taken off in the show standard if they are not friendly enough to try to court the judges.

This sweet flamboyant temperament makes them an absolute delight to work with!

These are the first on the list with no known health issues associated with the breed.

Show Type Racing homer

This is an elegant exhibition breed, easy to house in the example set up we discussed at the beginning of the ask.

They are bulkier than racing homers or flying type show homers, VERY tightly feathered.

This is a wonderfully sweet tempered breed that tends not to be especially flighty. 

Some of that is due to the sheer bulk of its musculature, but most of it does genuinely seem to be temperament.

Old Dutch Capuchine 

These have a reputation for being docile, but I have found them to be quite flighty.

Mixes incorporating this breed, though, tend to be quite bold and out going.

Racing Homer

This is the most commonly available pigeon breed.

Bred for endurance racing, this is a very high energy bird that needs a LOT of time out of the pen to fly. 

They have the strongest immune system and highest intelligence of any of the pure breeds.

though some individuals can be hair-trigger flighty, this breed is keenly intelligent and highly curious, and those individuals can learn to overcome their flightiness if their handler can learn to be aware enough of their comfort levels not to startle them with too-quick motion.

Lucerne Peak Crest

Named, like the Lahore, after the city in Switzerland where the breed was developed.

The Lucerne is an extremely temperature hardy breed. 

It’s among what are called the Owl Breeds; small, compact breeds with short to mid length beaks, round faces, and large, round eyes.

Most of the owl breeds are mellow and sweet tempered, boldly curious, and not generally prone to be flighty.

Their beaks being a little short makes their nasal slit narrow and the opening to their sinuses wide, so small seeds like Millet can get stuck in the nasal cavity of some individuals.

Classic Old Frill

Oh, this is my favorite purebred.

The total pidge package: Small, friendly, shockingly beautiful, devoted parents. 

There is absolutely everything to love about this wonderful cuddle bug breed.

Nun

These are a gorgeous breed, often described as being friendly because they are not smart enough to be wary.

They are unspeakably awful parents, prone to literally treating their eggs like an especially large, uncomfortable poop.

Old German Owl

Another absolute delight of a charming little Owl breed.

These are as stubborn as they are sweet tempered, which can make them a really fun challenge to train.

These are cuddle bugs, for the most part. 

Chinese Owl

These are tiny little clouds that range from intensely curious and strongly treat motivated to absolute refusal to have anything to do with anything even remotely human shaped with very little in between. 

Small and easy to house.

Portuguese Tumbler

This is a tiny bird, not much taller than a conure.

They are bred purely for aerial performance, so this is a SUPER high energy breed that, like the racing homer, needs a LOT of out time.

They are very bold in their friendliness, eager to check up on you and steal a cheek-smooch before zooming off to resume doing their own thing.

Unfortunately, their breed standard requires their back toe not to touch the ground. They go on tippy toes when they are happy, excited, or relaxed, which makes something like a human hand or shoulder physically difficult to balance on, and there for uncomfortable to stand on.

So trying to pet one throws their balance and stresses them severely.

Mixes with stronger feet are thrilled to have the affectionate attention of human flock mates.

Valencian Figurita

The tiniest owl breed, currently just barely winning out over the Portuguese tumbler.

It’s known for its trapezoidal head shape and upright stance.

This is a bold, plucky little bird that in my experience loves shoulders. ^v^

They are bred a little too small, though, tending to only lay one egg to a clutch, with many dying in the shell with out space for the peep to develop.

Their hatchlings are often given to ringneck doves to foster.

“You know how some dogs have been bred to look nice but have a multitude of health problems (ie pug, chihuahua, great dane ,dachshund ect) does that happen in pigeons too?”

Oh, god, you would not believe the number of pigeon breeds that aren’t even bird shaped!

There are nearly twice as many severely distorted breeds as fit, bird shaped ones.

“And if so, how does one know which might be genetically predisposed to getting problems later on or just generally wont have the best quality of life?”

Pippin is a feral pigeon.

This is about the closest you can get to the base line natural shape of the species Columba livia.

The more pigeon-shaped the breed, the better.

Ferals are, genetically, a blend of the homers, rollers, and tumblers that survived getting lost on training tosses or during performances.

Here is Wilson, another purebred Racing homer.

Because this breed is designed to fly marathons literally hundreds of miles, it’s a lot more compact and muscular than Ferals and genuinely wild Rock Doves, who only need to fly as far as it takes to find enough to eat in a day.

The farther off this base line you go, the less physically fit the breed.

The American Fantail is an especially heinous train wreck.

Its chest is out thrust over its head, its neck curves parallel to its spine, and its head is propped up by its own tail feathers.

This pitiful creature is not just displaying.

Their skeleton is permanently stuck in that shape.

Parlor rollers are bred with a combination of neuromuscular defects that throw their balance when ever they flap their wings, sending them into a panic as they flail to right themselves.

Parlor Tumblers have a less severe version of the same group of deformities:

Jacobins are the extreme “modern” version of the ODC.

You could trim their feathers to clear their field of vision

But their very long necks tend to collapse into their shoulders with age.

The male Barb’s huge, wrinkled wattle and ceres block off their nasal passages and deform the eyelids so that they may not be able to fully close.

Cocks usually go blind with in three years, but that doesn’t matter to their breeders because their peak show and reproductive performance is between their first and second year of age.

The Short Faced Budapest’s show standard requires its eyes to telescope as much as possible.

Its eyes are literally bigger than its skull, and don;t fit in their sockets.

The eye lid is all that holds them in.

And some can’t fully close their eyes.

This is the Oriental Frill, also called the Modern Frill.

they have literally no beak.

Turbits have a longer head, but a nearly inverted beak.

These birds can;t feed their own young, and struggle to preen themselves.

Aaaand here is the Egyptian Moraslat 

This is a very typical attitude among breeders of these birds with extreme body shapes.

I thought I'd show you my pets!

The upper left is Tisket, who we think is a half westie, half mini schnauzer. She was a stray brought to my dad's vet and my dad was hoping to adopt another westie. At first, he didn't want a half westie, but his favorite vet tech, Liz, got him to hold Tisket and Tisket snuggled right into him. My dad just said "shit" because he knew it was too late, he'd been had and he loved this dog.

The upper right is Rocky, our westie. He's pretty old now, I think he's 13? He's also big for a westie, a solid 22 lbs. Just big for his breed. He's kind of an asshole haha in that special way westies are.

The next is my cat Tigris, the most beautiful, most perfect cat ever. She's my princess. She comes when I call her and is a perfect lap cat.

Middle left is Mere-bear, or Meredith. My sister found a post on site locally that said that a cat had gotten into her garage and she was really sweet, but her own cat hated other cats, and could anyone take care of her? So my sister, living with my dad at the time, calls him and the first thing he says is "what do you want?" Because he KNOWS her. She explains and he agrees to take this cat in and THEN my sister says, "oh btw she's pregnant." Lol Meredith kept trying to put the kittens in my sister's bed, which is adorable but also scary because my sister was worried she'd squish them.

Middle right is Monster, one of Meredith's babies. My dad kept him. He's a real pretty boy, super soft. We think he might be part Maine coon? He's got that look a bit and he's huge, he's STILL growing. He's already bigger than Tisket.

Lower left is Bo, my dad's cat. He BULLIES me! I thought I was maybe annoying him at first and that's why he bit me all the time, but even when I ignored him he'd RUN after me to BITE me. 😦 My friend said that maybe he just likes picking on me. Meanie.

And lower right in Nimbus, who has the same birthday as me! We have a friend who gets paid by the city to catch strays and get them spayed and neutered. One time I was a her house and there were a couple black stray kittens that kept coming around for food. One of then kept coming up to the glass door to see what we were doing. He was super interested and when I opened the door, I was ALMOST able to pet him. I was like, "that cat wants in, he wants to come inside." 3 days later they got him to come inside and he's a pet now. That was Squirt. So Squirt got one of their other new cats pregnant because they thought they'd spayed her but actually hadn't; oops. And the only kitten they had was Nimbus, who we adopted.

My goodness, that’s a lot of pets. Unfortunately Tumblr doesn’t keep the layout of submited posts, so they all just end up being one big line and there isn’t anything I can do about it at my end.

Hello, gothic hippie love here. Let me tell you about myself. I am a 33 year old first time mom to a daughter born 3/10/2020. I have been with my fiance for 2.5 years now. I live in SouthEast Ohio. I spent the earlier years of my adulthood in an abusive marriage that lasted almost 11 years and ended in divorce and me having ptsd. I also have 2 amazing dogs, and am a huge advocate for the Pitbull breed and the legalization of marijuana.

gothic hippie? yes, self proclaimed. I am a huge fan of Metal, and many types of rock. I also enjoy 60s hippie music. I enjoy a healthyish lifestyle. I am 420 friendly, and enjoy drawing, painting, and crafts. I enjoy the outdoors, and crave a serine, peaceful existance away from everyone. I love sugar skulls and skull stuff. Nightmare before christmas is my favorite movie, and I love all other Time Burton movies. I also like to read. Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies.

I want to raise my 3.5 month old daughter Hannah to be her own person, and not to care of the opinions of others. I want her to be a warrior, and be able to stand up for herself and others. I want her to choose the right path, and not the one that everyone deems the right path. I want her to see true beauty as not what the outside shows but what is on the inside. I want her to look beyond the outside and see beauty within others. I want her to excell further in life than I have. I want her to know how much her Mother and Father loves her always.

Species Spotlight #2: Betta aka Siamese/Chinese Fighting Fish

The fish with many names, I’ve heard them called Japanese or Chinese or Siamese Fighting Fish, but they are generally known as Betta, which is from their scientific name ‘Betta splendens’.

So you’re considering a betta?

Betta tie with goldfish for being some of the most abused, misunderstood fish on the market. If you have a betta fish and reading this alarms you please don’t be too upset, in all likelihood you were given bad information or no information when you acquired one. I’m not here to pass judgment on you, but I am here to help you set things up so your fish leads a long and happy life!

The betta is an egglaying variety of fish but interestingly enough they do so with bubble nests. The male attempts to attract a female by blowing bubbles in a tight formation, usually in the corner of the tank. If your betta starts doing this it means he feels comfortable an safe!

They are from the gourami family of which there are over 133 recognized species!

Tank Size

It’s not uncommon to see a betta fish in a small tank or even vases and there are a huge variety of ‘tanks’ being sold that specifically claim to be for bettas. Betta should never, ever, ever, be housed in less than 2.5 gallons and even then I frown on something of that size, but it’s way more preferable to anything smaller. 3+ gallons are far better. Many of the ‘tanks’ that claim to be for betta are even less than 1 gallon! That’s the equivalent of your house being the size of a small closet. Sure you could live in that but it won't be pleasant at all.

Not only are they too small but many of them lack filtration or heaters and don’t even have the room for either! Betta require tropical temperatures, so between 75°-80° degrees Fahrenheit (23°-26° Celsius), like any fish they also require a filter (which also brings oxygen into the water).

There are good quality 3-5 gallon tanks that you can get and set up easily enough. I keep my betta in a 7.5 gallon planted tank. You can even just buy all the different parts you need to set up your own beautiful tank as 5-gallon basic tanks aren’t very expensive at all!

Some stores also sell ‘betta plants’ that they claim the fish will nibble on the roots for nutrition. Sure. A starving fish will nibble on anything to survive but they are primarily carnivorous. Not only are the plants starving the poor fish they also take up a lot of the surface area of the water, or even block it off completely! Betta are labyrinth fish meaning they can gulp air to get extra oxygen so it’s important that they have access to the surface of their water. Add to that that a tank filter isn’t just to clean the water of waste, but also to aerate the water to bring in more oxygen for your fish.

Types of betta:

Betta are being bred not only by hobbyists but professionals and over the years a bigger and bigger variety of them have become available. When I was just a kid, over 20 years ago, there were no varieties listed they’d just be ‘betta fish’.

Vieltail

The most basic variety are the ones I saw as a kid, they’re known as veil tails. This variety is so common that they aren’t even allowed to compete in betta shows (like dog shows but for betta fish!). Just because they are common doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get one! They’re still very beautiful and come in a variety of colors. They are called veiltail because their tail resembles a draping vail.

Combtail

Combtail betta can have any shaped tail or fins, but they also have extra extensions almost like fingers.

Crowntail

Crowntails are like the combtail on steroids. At least half their tail is made up with the trailing fingers, rather than just a short bit on the end.

Delta/Super Delta

These guys are rather stunning as their tails are symmetrical (if an ideal example) with the same amount of tail above and below and spread out evenly with no draping or drooping.

Double Tail

As it says on the tin. They don’t have a split tail but rather literally two tails! The two tails can be in different sizes.

Half-moon/Over- half-moon

These fellows have tails even bigger than the delta/super delta mentioned above, about 180 degrees and some even over that. That severe of a tail can lead to them being more easily damaged, try to avoid anything sharp or rough in their tank.

Halfsun

Sort of a mix between a combtail and a half-moon tailed variety with a dash of delta. They have full flowing tails with a bit of a fringe at the edge.

Plakat

For this variety, their tails are much shorter, but still fanned out and beautiful. Due to their short tails, they’re much less likely to be damaged.

Rosetail/Feathertail

These lovely boys are tails that are so full they look feathery!

Roundtail

Their tail is even fuller and round than the plakat a bit like a D shape.

Spadetail

Where the roundtail has a nicely rounded tail the tip of the spadetail’s fin comes to a little point!

Elephant Ear

With these, it’s less about the shape of the tail and rather the shape of the fins. They’re very big! The featured image of this post is of one!

Those are just the tail shapes, as to their color patterns? Here is a quick list of color types:

Butterfly, koi, Cambodian, marble, dragon (avoid this variety as they often get scales growing over their eyes), mask, multi-colored, piebald (like marbled but different!), solid, wild type (less vivid colors, closer to how they appear in the wild).

The colors they come in are across the spectrum, including albino. Finding the color, pattern and tail combo you like may be a challenge, but betta fish are easy to find and easy to take care of.

Recently a new variety has come to market known as ‘kings’ this just signifies them as being a super-sized betta! I have a half-moon wild type betta and he is easily twice the size of regular betta.

Good Tankmates

If you have a smaller tank, like a 3-5 gallon I suggest keeping your betta solo as they are very territorial! They can be housed with snails though, but make sure to introduce the betta to the tank first or he may kill anything that was in the tank before him to establish his territory.

Betta have wildly different personalities, one person will have a peaceful community friendly betta and another will have a ‘Kill all trespassers!’ variety. It needs to be stated that males and females don’t really get along very well. I also don’t suggest breeding them as they are already heavily bred professionally and by hobbyists. Only try breeding if you are very very serious about it and have the room for them.

I have successfully kept my king betta with other fish in a large tank that gives both him and the tankmates to move around in. As long as they have a buffer a betta shooould be willing to play nice. Be warned though, this may not be the same for you. I would also suggest avoiding putting them in a tank with another fish that has a big flowing tail.

Betta also move up and down the tank meaning, no territory is really safe from an aggressive betta. Cory catfish may work in a large tank, tetra may be quick enough to avoid an aggressive betta but keep a close eye on them to make sure he isn’t overly stressing them out. It’s a lot of trial and error.

Feeding

There are a lot of different foods you can feed to your betta but make sure to get food specially formulated for them. Also, try to mix up the variety of food you give them. Frozen small foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, krill and the like make good treats but not as a regular part of their diet.

Make sure to only give them a few pellets at a time, as their stomach is only about as big as their eyeball and they can be very greedy eaters and you can overfeed them! Yes, betta can get fat!

Tank Temperature

75°-80° degrees Fahrenheit (23°-26° Celsius)

Final Words

Betta are some of the best beginner fish as long as they’re given a good home. They’re full of personality, they live 3-5 years, are very hardy and easy to care for. They’re personally one of my favorite fish and I never tire of them!

If you want to find a rarer type of betta ask around online, speak to local aquarium clubs and you’ll definitely find a breeder who can help you out.

In which we dig deeper under the surface of our favorite KPOP idols.

Sun Sign: Taurus (Earth)

Day6 is FILLED with Earth signs, and I feel like that’s the reason they’re such weird dorks? Because they feel comfortable around each other and can just totally be themselves. But anyway! Onto Wonpil the Taurus!

Since Taurus is an Earth sign, they embody the general characteristics of the other Earth signs: being down-to-earth, reliable, stable, dedicated, hard-working. What sets them apart is their stubbornness, their intense need for security, and their elegance/sensuality. While I can see all of these traits in our sweet Wonpil, the one which sticks out to me the most is the need for security. When I see him being super affectionate with his members, I see more than just liking skinship or being overly friendly. I see that as his way of holding on (physically) to what is the most stable thing in his life - his band, his music, his career. You can tell he loves his members so darn much, and I think part of the reason why is because they provide him with security and stability in his life. And those are two things a Taurus LOVES.

I mentioned this when talking about Jae’s moon sign, but the ruling planet of Taurus is Venus, the planet of love and beauty. This is why a Taurus is known to be elegant and sensual, and personally, I think Wonpil’s looks are extremely elegant. I have always thought he resembles a Siamese cat, and those are arguably the most sophisticated breed of cat there is. I’ve grown up having Siamese-mixed cats, so I do have a partiality to them, but I know it’s not just me! Also, Taurus is ruled by the neck, throat, and jaw so this particular sign can tend to have just gorgeous jawlines. And beautiful singing voices. Wonpil has both, don’t even @ me because it’s the truth.

And I do want to touch on the stubbornness of a Taurus. The sign is represented by a bull, after all. While I’m not sure if we’ve seen too much of Wonpil’s stubbornness, I would like to point out... The Pink Sweater. He defended that thing until he knew it was a losing battle - and rightly so! I do not see a thing wrong with that pink sweater, and I think Jae just doesn’t understand true, classic fashion. But... that’s just me.

Moon Sign: Sagittarius (Fire)

Although every single member of Day6 is a HUGE DORK, I think Wonpil has the most 4D personality. He’s just... out there. Constantly. This, I am quite certain, is due to his Sagittarius moon. A Sagittarius is known for being enthusiastic and over the top and outspoken and super confident and in your face. Young K is a Sagittarius Sun, so all of the crazy, fiery traits should still be pretty fresh in your mind.

A Sagittarius has this urge to learn and explore, and I think we can see that in Wonpil, especially when it comes to music. And his passion and love for music certainly show when he sings. I mean, overall, I think Wonpil truly embodies the positive traits of a Sagittarius. He’s curious and passionate, of course, but he’s also super encouraging and loving and dedicated and optimistic and enthusiastic. Wonpil is seriously one of the cutest human beings; he’s so full of positive energy, and I’m pretty sure life is never boring when he’s around.

So... if you don't like the Sagittarius sign, Day6 is not really the band for you. I’m just saying.

Chinese Astrology: Wood Dog

So, I know I compared Wonpil to a cat in his Sun Sign section, but oh my goodness, he’s also a Dog. More like a puppy, but definitely a Dog. In the Chinese Zodiac, Dogs are seen are kind, friendly, hard-working, loyal - basically, like dogs in real life. Wonpil is all of those things.

Wood Dogs, in particular, are seen as even more kind and friendly. They’re usually more warm and caring than other Dogs, and Wonpil is certainly warm and caring. We talked about his love of affection as a Taurus already, so that comes from his Wood Dog aspect, as well.

A Vast Expanse

They dropped the case against Mrs. Ailes, and with that came new charges against her daughter Renee. Williams was offered the new case, but she turned it down quietly, citing personal involvement in the case. And on Friday morning, when the charges against Renee slid across Ieyasu’s desk, he moved it to Mitsuhide’s desk without a word. Mercifully, the devil said nothing about it, only flipped through the file with marked disinterest.

That night--after the others had left and only he and Mitsunari were still working--the silver-haired man appeared at the end of his desk.

“What are you doing this weekend?”

Ieyasu didn't register the significance of the question at first. “Dunno. Probably gym, laundry.”

Mitsunari pressed on. “Would you want to come over? To my apartment. I’m inviting Williams.”

What did that mean? On one hand, it was Mitsunari asking. It could be as innocent as kittens and string. On the other hand, he’d hinted at knowing more than he let on. Ieyasu rapped his pen against the desk and chose to play it safe. “What did you have in mind?”

“Dinner.”

“You’re not cooking, are you?”

Mitsunari smiled charmingly. “I thought I’d order something from a local eatery. I had a surprise anyway.”

A surprise? That could be a lot of things. A tie, Broadway tickets, a double life--though Ieyasu doubted Mitsunari, transparent as he was, could manage such a thing. Suddenly his throat felt impossibly dry. “Okay,” Ieyasu managed. “Yeah, what time?”

“Come by around six. I’ll give you the address. Have you never been by before?” Mitsunari fished for a piece of paper.

“No.”

Mitsunari beamed. “One eleven Murray Street. It’s on the twelfth floor--”

Something told Ieyasu he ought to Google it, so he did. Only a half second later he squinted back up at his partner. “Fuck you.”

“What did I do?”

“No, just--” Mitsunari’s eyes were full of confusion, and Ieyasu couldn’t bring himself to finish the sentence. “Just. Don’t worry about it. Okay. I’ll be there. Do I--” He rested his face in his hands for a moment. “Should I bring wine?”

“Oh no, I have plenty in the wine fridge.”

“You have a wine fridge. Of course you do.”

Mitsunari tried to clean the apartment himself, but he gave up after the fourth time spilling the mop water and simply called a company. That worked out much better. By the time six rolled around he had everything ready.

Ieyasu called him first. “Okay, so first of all, a valet?”

“Oh, sorry. I forgot to tell you about that. I’ve got it.”

“No--nevermind.” The other man huffed softly. “Do I need a passkey or anything?”

“No. Just give the doorman the room number and he’ll call up to confirm with security. Oh, and he’ll probably ask for ID.”

There was silence on the other end of the line. Mitsunari wondered if Ieyasu had dropped the call. “Yeah. Yep. Yep. I see the lobby and… yeah. I see why they ask for ID. Okay. See you soon.”

Somehow Williams got there first anyway. She looked like a work of art in a sleek, deep blue-grey coat, a delicate sweep of lip gloss over her full lips like glass. Mitsunari stood speechless in the door.

“Nice chandelier down there in the lobby,” she teased. “Is it glass or crystal?”

“I’m very certain it’s crystal, of course.” It felt almost obvious. He smiled and offered a hand. “May I take your coat?”

“Please and thank you, hon.”

Ieyasu emerged at her elbow with a stormcloud expression, bundled up in his brown coat. “How many floors are there?”

“I don’t know, honestly, I never checked. I guess I could ring security--”

Ieyasu groaned. “Please don’t.”

“So how did you wind up here?” Williams stripped off her coat to reveal a simple purple dress--his favorite color. “This doesn’t feel like the kind of place you just pick off a map.”

“Well, my brother--Masazumi--actually picked it.” Mitsunari took both the coats and hung them neatly in a closet. “He initially was going to stay here, but then he got all wrapped up in his horse breeding, and I graduated from Yale, so when I said I wanted to work in New York, it just sort of fell to me.”

“There were other options?”

“Well…” Mitsunari paused. “He took the estate in Connecticut and bought another in Kentucky--”

“Oh my God,” Ieyasu muttered.

“--and then there was the cabin in Colorado, which we sort of trade back and forth. It’s shared, really. We sold the property in Cape Cod.”

“So you’re well off,” Williams struggled to keep a straight face, but the laugh teased there all the same. “I’d guessed, but…” She turned her smile on Ieyasu. “Did you have any idea what we were getting into?”

“No clue.” Ieyasu’s familiar frown disappeared like mist as soon as she looked at him. Mitsunari looked on fondly.

“So.” Williams clapped her hands together. “What’s for dinner?”

Dinner was a simple, classic affair: pasta in a delicious sauce with wine (“I didn't know if anyone was a vegetarian, I’ve never seen Ieyasu eat meat…”). Scarcely were they done before Mitsunari hopped up and took them both by the hand.

“Come on,” he urged. “I want to show you both the surprise.”

Ieyasu followed Mitsunari as he marched with purpose away from the dining table. Williams walked next to Ieyasu, brushing his knuckles with the back of her hand. His breath hitched; sparks flew up his arm and danced across his skin. He hoped his face wasn’t bright red, though he couldn’t be entirely sure. If he was, surely neither Mitsunari, who was fiddling with a doorknob, or Williams, could see--

“Are you blushing?” She whispered. Dammit.

“Voila!” Mitsunari announced, throwing the door open with a flourish. Ieyasu peered into the room and froze.

The room itself was huge, sure, but the bed--the bed went on forever, covered in pillows and and crisp buttercup yellow sheets and what did Mitsunari do with a bed that big?

“I bought it for us,” Mitsunari announced. How was it possible that the man could present them his bedroom and still look as pure as an angel? Ieyasu flicked through possibility after possibility, the three of them all tangled up together again, on that bed, nothing but sheets and skin and that agonizing spark that flickered over him whenever one of them touched him--

If he was blushing before, he was beet red now.

“Mitsunari…” Williams breathed. She stepped into the room, an expression Ieyasu didn’t entirely recognize on her face. She touched the sheets--delicately, so delicately--gliding her palm across the fabric. “This is… I love the sheets,” she chuckled.

“You both like yellow,” Mitsunari declared innocently. “I thought it was only fitting. I bought it because it wouldn’t do for us all to lay in the floor every time we’re together, and I wanted you both to feel at home, so…”

“You did this for us.” Ieyasu followed Williams into the bedroom, and Mitsunari followed, closing the door carefully behind him.

“Of course I did.” Mitsunari sat easily on the great expanse of mattress, and patted the space beside him.

For a moment, Ieyasu considered leaving--he could say it was late, the trains were unreliable, he could suddenly have a dog that desperately needed walking--but no. Instead he sat beside Mitsunari and said, “This can’t be your bedroom.”

“What? Why not?”

“Because.” His heart was racing, being so close to them both. Ieyasu settled back onto his elbows and closed his eyes. It was simple. It was easy. He was sitting between two incredible, astonishing people, and they were talking. Just talking. “I’ve seen your desk at the office and there’s no way that disaster doesn’t follow you home.”

“Mitsunari!” Williams gasped, and her feigned shock brought a small smile to Ieyasu’s face. He left his eyes closed, losing himself fully in the music of her voice. “I can’t believe what I’m hearing! You, disorganized? It can’t be.”

“Cleaning and organizing is a complicated task I have yet to master--”

“This place is clean!”

It was Mitsunari’s turn to blush. “I might’ve paid someone--”

Williams’ cackle was a thing of beauty. She flopped back onto the bed beside him, peals of laughter echoing into the rafters. “Oh my God!”

Ieyasu opened his eyes again, watching Mitsunari’s sheepish, lopsided smile. He’d kissed that mouth before. It felt like such a fleeting, vanishing daydream that he had, but he had, and there it was again, that angelic face that tasted so good against him--

He was shaking and knew it. That didn't stop him. With trembling hands he reached out and looped an arm around Mitsunari’s neck.

“Yes?” Mitsunari blinked.

“Shut up,” Ieyasu commanded, and smothered his mouth in a kiss.

The surprised moan was good. The way Mitsunari relaxed so readily into his arms was better. Down-soft hair swirled around his forehead and brushed over his face, and when they finally broke apart they were gasping for air. But Ieyasu wasn’t through. Oh, no. His resolve sharp, he turned to Williams. “C’mere.”

“Is it my tu--oh!” He didn't grant her the mercy of finishing her sentence. Even as he wrapped his arms around her, she dragged him down to the mattress where she lay, her twists tangling in his hands and tongue slipping between his lips. The whole world dragged away into easy, comfortable, soft, black nothing--nothing but her, her, them, just this moment and the whole mattress around them.

When they broke away, Mitsunari was watching.

“Don’t mind me,” he commented, his usually higher voice thick and husky. “I--it’s a beautiful thing to watch.”

“Well then,” Williams murmured, reaching out to him. “You could come and be a little hands on.”

The implication sent shivers up Ieyasu’s spine. Mitsunari smiled (so fucking sweetly) and slicked back his hair.

“I’d love to, if you’d like me to.”

“I would.”

Two sets of eyes turned to him. Ieyasu inhaled sharply. “Yeah.”

Before reading, to clarify any confusion when I switch from the terms “their owner” and “you,” I made you the “owner.” I realise that I switch the terms around a lot, and therefore it could be a little confusing. Siamese Cat

Like the siamese cat, Yoosung is very affectionate, intelligent - that is when he is attending his classes and not staying home to play LOLOL - and vocal,

And as well as those characteristics, can become depressed when left alone or are away from the owner. “Meow~ Rik– I-I mean MC, please, don’t leave me home alone!~ Meow!” Will definitely sulk watching you leave.

Kitty Yoosung loves to play games no surprise with his owner; he especially enjoys chasing a laser point, playing with balls of yarn, etc.

Type of cat that can literally sleep anywhere and in any position too, for that matter. You can find him in the sink, in the shower, dangling a bit off the couch, in the food bowl, anywhere you can imagine. Though he is a playful cat, he also has a lazy streak.

Not a very good climber or jumper. Sometimes falls when trying to get on the couch, and it’s really funny because he flops on his back and lays there for a minute before getting himself up.

Very messy cat too, especially when it comes to his litterbox. You are constantly having to clean up all the litter that he kicks out the box,

And I mean, it’s heap loads of it. “Oops, I’m sorry, Meow~ I won’t do it again– Oops! I did it again! Meow~”

♪ Zen ♪

Maine Coon Cat

Also known as the “gentle giant”, maine coons are large, sociable sweethearts, just like Zenny~ Along with that, playful, gentle, with “dog like” traits, and most importantly, a flirtatious cat.

With his graceful struts, rolls on the ground, purrs and rubs against your leg will have anyone cooing at his gentleness.

A very gorgeous cat; super fluffy, big tail, and big ears. Walks rather pridefully and likes to be taken outside on a leash to show himself off - and frankly, if he’s your cat you want to show him off too since he’s so beautiful.

“All these people want to pet me! Ah, well I can’t blame them. I’m just so fluffy and beautiful. Meow~”

Zen sleeps on your bed, and since he’s so big, he takes up a huge amount of space. If it’s a small bed, you’re practically dangling off the edge while Zen is comfortable laying on his side or curled up smack bang in the middle of the bed.

Persian Cat

Jaehee shares in common with the persian cat a placid and adaptive personality, quiet and keeps to themselves,

And very affectionate to their owner. Especially when the owner is respectful of their space and boundaries.

As a cat, she hardly makes any noise, even when she wants food. She’ll be very subtle about it just by approaching you or sitting in front of the cat bowl.

Jaehee is a very sweet cat, and very sweet to their owner. She likes to be around you, a good distance away, but close enough so you can hear her gentles purrs and feel the warmth radiating off of her body.

“Please be close to me, Meow~ but not that close. Please respect my boundaries…oh, you did. Thank you! Meow~”

She is the best cat to have whenever you are upset, because she senses it, and to cheer you up she will sit on your lap and rub her head against your chest.

Does not care about the quality of the food - eats whatever is given to her and put in her bowl.

Does not like when doors are closed and you are on the other side. Doesn’t matter if it’s the door to the bathroom, she doesn’t like it, and she’ll start pawing on the wooden door and pushing her paws beneath the cracks in the door.

Ragdoll Cat

Jumin is a docile, calm, and gentle cat like the ragdoll. He is affectionate to his owner and owner only. Not entirely like the ragdoll cat, but more adjacent to his personality and a very intelligent cat.

Jumin is a very beautiful cat, with golden eyes that have a glimmer in them - you’re pretty sure that his eyes have the power to seep into your soul, considering how intense his eyes are, and more importantly, how intense his stare is.

The type of cat that is up at odd hours, and if he’s up, that means you’re up. He will not let you sleep. “Meow~ I really hope you are not trying to sleep.” Oh, he knows you are trying to sleep, but he does not care.

He will walk on your chest, and his claws will be practically digging into you because like as said, zero cares, and he will rub his head all over your face, neck and chest.

Basically, practically think’s he’s royalty. The saying that, “when you feed a dog they think you’re a god, but when you feed a cat they think they’re a god,” has never been so true with Jumin. Oh yes, in this household, he is the god, and he will not move a muscle. Unless absolutely necessary.

With that being said, he sits on your clothes with literally no fucks, and when you give him a glare as he lays on a pile of clothes that needs to be put away, he’s unfazed.

“Apologies. Would you like me to move? I don’t think so. Meow~”

☺ Seven/Saeyoung ☺

Exotic Shorthair Cat

Exotic Shorthairs are fun cats, just like Seven! They are playful, energetic, affectionate, intelligent, loyal and affectionate.

Unfortunately, the other quality that the exotic shorthair and Seven share is they can become depressed, especially when they are left alone. But besides that, they are the perfect “meme” cat and a loyal friend to till the end.

So don’t leave this poor baby alone.

Seven is not like any ordinary cat; for one, he really likes water. He loves to get in bubble baths with you, though all the water clings to his red fur, and it can be a hassle to dry him.

Totally scratches up the furniture, even after numerous times of having been told not to, and even though he has a scratching post! The couch is scratched up the most - you determine it’s his favorite “scratching post.”

Cat does not know what personal space is. He is all over you at all times, all up in your face, fur in your mouth, arms and legs spread.

This cat will eat anything you give him. Even if he is not hungry, if you are eating dinner, lunch, or just have a snack in your hand, and he will sniff it then bite it out of your hand, then run away at the speed of light!

“Catch me if you can! Meow~ Haha, you can’t, you can-” Bangs into a nearby wall and hurts his little head.

British Shorthair Cat

The British Shorthair is a good natured cat, devoted to their owner as a loyal companion, who truly sticks to the end, which is perfect for V who sports the same characteristics as a warm hearted and good natured person, who too, is loyal and devoted.

The two share a calm temperament, tolerance, and are easy going. V is not the most active or playful, but every once and while will humor his owner by playing with a little ball of yarn, patting it around with it’s paws.

V will kiss his owners face, sometimes licking on their cheek. His whiskers always tickle your face, and you can’t help but giggle and run your hand through his short fur.

He is a very photogenic cat, and never shies away from the camera, though it may seem like that when he does his traditional pose covering his face with his paws. It’s in mainly to enhance his adorableness. Your phone is flooded with old and new pictures of V being overall adorable and sweet.

Like Jaehee, his is a very good cat when it comes to comforting. He can sense when you are sad, and will immediately jump on your lap, nestling his head in your stomach and leaning up to kiss your face. “Don’t be sad, meow~ Let me help you. Please, I’ll lick away your tears.”

V is also a cat that really loves bags. Wherever you go grocery shopping and the second the food and other what nots are removed, he’s jumping into the bag and curling into it. Many cute pictures of him in a brown bag, adorable as ever.

☻ Saeran/Unknown ☻

Russian Blue Cat

Saeran is someone who is very reserved, quiet, and tranquil, like the Russian Blue cat. Saeran does not like to go out of his comfort zone, especially after everything he went through in his early childhood, up until being rescued from Mint Eye – that doesn’t change as a cat.

The Russian Blue is a very intelligent cat with an acute sense, which is great for someone like Saeran who has many talents with the computer, more, an quick learner.

Another particular trait that Saeran shares with the Russian Blue is that they are both sensitive to human emotions. Saeran can sense when someone is depressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, considering he felt those three emotions for most of his life.

As a cat, when he sees that his owner is getting stressed, he’ll go up to them and nestle his head against their shin, his gentle purrs are relaxing sound to their owners ears.

He can also, of course, tell when someone is happy or excited, and therefore when his owner is happy, he is happy too.

Saeran is the type of cat that when lying down, they like to cover their face with their paws, sort of hiding themselves from the world, but allowing themselves to be open to, and willing for gentle pets to their stomach or head.

Unfortunately though, he is also the type of cat who will push things off a surfaces purposely to get your attention if he feels like you’re ignoring him, or you’re going to leave him alone.

“Meow~ Please, MC, don’t leave me. Meow~”

He is a very cuddly cat, and does not like to be left alone for too long. He’ll follow you around, stick by you, jump on your lap and groan if you move. But he is a very lovable cat, and a loyal one too.

✌ Vanderwood ✌

Grumpy Cat.

Though he may look grumpy on the outside, he is a sweet, adorable, lovable cat that just wants your love and attention,

So don’t be fooled by the frown on his face. He just wants your love and a clean house.

Vanderwood is the type of cat that judges you for every little thing that you do. And you can just tell he is judging you by the look of displeasure on his face and the intense glare - his eyes are very intense, and sometimes you feel a chill go up your spine looking into his eyes.

He’s a tsundere even as a cat. Though he may act like he doesn’t like it when you pet him, the moment you’re removing your hand he’s meowing and pawing at you to continue, therefore resuming to his, “I don’t care” attitude.

If you don’t like things being pushed on the ground from off a table or counter, Vanderwood is the cat for you. Clean. Freak. Even. As. A. Cat.

He doesn’t like a mess. He doesn’t like to be messy, he doesn’t like to be in a mess, therefore, he doesn’t like to make mess, which is the beauty of him as a cat.

He hates baths, since he doesn’t like the water or soap in his fur, and if he’s having a bath, he knows it’s because he is dirty, and just the look of the dirt seeping off of him in the water is enough to make him meow a really high pitch moan of distaste.

“me-OW~~ Get me out! I swear, I will bite you!”

But again, he is a very gentle cat. He likes to sit in your lap if you don’t force him, since he is a very independent cat. He likes to be surrounded by your warmth, and he likes to rub up against you when you’re still.

1. What part of a creative project excites you the most? Probably writing out intense emotional scenes--any scene where someone breaks down into tears or, more favorably, explodes in a rage that becomes tears is when I’m at my writing peak.

2. If you could teleport anywhere in the world RIGHT NOW but could only stay for 45 minutes where would it be and why? I think I’d go to Paris. I love Paris a lot, but the whole travel aspect is not great. So if I could just pop over and get some bread or whatever, that’d be super rad.

If you could have any kind of pet with the means to care for it properly, what would it be? A lion. I freaking love lions.

Favorite time of day/night? There’s about five minutes when the sun’s setting, when it’s just dipped below the horizon, where the sky’s still lit but the trees and buildings look like black paper cutouts against it. That’s absolutely my favorite time of day.

Favorite color palette I’m a sucker for neutral, foresty shades. Greens are my fave.

Are you a swimmer or a sand-castle sculptor? I am a “Why did you want to come to the beach so bad, Slushee, you hate the beach and you know you hate the beach but you kept whining about how you wanted to ‘feel the ocean air’ and now you’re here and you hate it but you can’t go home yet because the drive would have been a waste so I guess we’re going to sit here and sulk for an hour”-er.

If you ever got to meet your hero(ine) what would you talk about? I’m terrible when I meet people I look up to, so I’d probably just stammer into silence and slam my head into a camera. That’s what I did when I met Lee Unkrich.

If you had enough money for the house if your dreams, where would you live and why? I’d live in a fancy loft in a hipster-y city. I’d love to check out Boston, but I don’t know if I’d want to live there. Paris is another good option, except that I’d have to speak French all the time. 

It’s raining like crazy outside. How does that affect your mood? TIME TO OPEN ALL THE WINDOWS AND LISTEN TO IRL RAINYMOOD.

Would you rather go on an adventure by yourself and make new friends on the way, or depart on an adventure with the friends you now have? I went on an adventure by myself, and it was a wonderful experience. I think I’d like to go on one of those again, but for now I’m very happy just staying home.

Favorite sound? Moving water. The sea, a river, the rain. So long as water’s moving I’m loving it.

Would you rather journey to the very bottom of the ocean or to outer space? Space is infinitely less scary than whatever’s going on with our oceans.

1. What do you wish more people knew about you? I wish more people knew how much I love pretty things. I’m a complete sucker for pretty things.

2. What place or thing in the world would you most like to see? Right now I really want to go to Japan. 

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was REALLY little, I wanted to be a dentist. Then I became more sensible and wanted to be an actress.

4. What style of clothing do you think you look silly in? I look TERRIBLE in rompers. It’s a disgrace.

5. What would your alebrije be? (Yes, you can pick more than one!) My cat would absolutely be my alebrije, Pepita-style. Except grumpier and more demanding.

6. What movie are you most looking forward to this year? Uh...I honestly don’t know what movies are coming out. Wreck It Ralph 2 looks pretty interesting.

7. What is your favourite thing to cook? Onigiri’s pretty fun to make.

8. What is one skill you would like to learn? I really want to learn how to paint someday.

I do think Ella Enchanted is a must for most little girls, though. That’s where I learned that main character girls could be angry and feisty and sarcastic, and it’s been a huge influence on all my writing.

Can you recommend any Neil Gaiman to me, aside from Stardust or Good Omens? The only book I’ve read of his was “The Ocean at the End of the Lane.” It was good, just not really my scene. 

What’s the best concert you’ve been to, if you’ve been? The Killers, hands down. 

Is there an animal you like that most people don’t? I kinda like spiders and most people are terrified of them. Which makes me the designated spider-catcher whenever one’s nearby. (I never kill them. Just relocate them!)

Is there an animal that you think is overrated in terms of how it’s liked? Dogs 

Do you find yourself listening to music that’s a bit more esoteric? I guess sometimes. But a great deal of what I listen to could be considered “mainstream.” 

What are your three favorite books and why? This is an impossible question! So I’ll respond with the 3 best books I’ve read *lately* Water for Elephants, This Close to Okay, What Comes After (I’m still in the middle of it but I sense it’ll become a fave!)

What’s the hardest thing you’ve been through, & what did you learn from it? I think it’s kinda of weird to rank my painful experiences like that. I’ve felt pain in different ways at different points of my life.

Do you have any desire to learn (a) foreign language(s)? Which? Polish, because I want to speak the language of my ancestors. And because I just think it’s beautiful.

Friend “breakups” can be just as painful and life-altering as romantic ones and I wish that was discussed more.

Any music recommendations? I’m actually on the hunt for some new music so if anyone has reccs for ME... that’d be cool.

Most recently read book that you liked? The last book I read in full was Jessica Simpson’s memoir Open Book. And it was surprisingly delightful & touching.

Where do you like to get your ice cream? Moonlight Creamery holds a special place in my heart because that’s where I got engaged! And besides that, they really do have some of the best tasting ice cream I’ve ever had. 

What’s your opinion on stereotypes/labels? As humans it’s natural for us to categorized people based on past experiences. Is it always accurate? Of course not. But we all do it.
