“You know,” Eddie begins, running his fingers through Buck’s damp, frizzy curls, “when I booked this cabin for the weekend, I had plans for us to fuck real nasty by the fire.”   Buck laughs—an ugly, congested noise that sounds like it hurts when it gets caught in his chest—and tips his head back to meet Eddie’s gaze in the low light of the blazing fire. His big blue eyes are puffy and his cheeks are red, hot by the fire and chapped by the wind; he looks like a kid, almost, sitting on the floor and wrapped tight in a large, black fleece blanket with nothing beneath except a pair of boxers and fuzzy socks.  “Well,” Buck croaks, “we’re still by the fire, at least.”  Eddie smiles. “Mhm.” He smooths his hand across Buck’s warm cheeks and taps his chin. “And yet there’s a startling lack of fucking going on.”  “I can’t help it.”  “You could’ve actually.” He sighs and sits down behind Buck, scooting forward until he has Buck between his legs and bracketed by his thighs. It’s just as much to help Buck warm up as it is to hold him close. “I told you not to step on that log. I said, ‘Hey, Buck, don’t step on that log. It’s rotten and you’ll go straight through and fall in the water.’” He pulls the corner of the blanket down and kisses the top of Buck’s bare shoulder. “And what did you do?”  “I stepped on it,” Buck says, quietly.  “What else?”  “And fell in.”  Eddie wraps his arms around Buck, squeezing him tight. “And?” he prompts, delighting in the smell of Buck’s warm skin, a mix of eucalyptus and vanilla and mint and, faintly, rose. It’s them, a swirled mixture that makes his tummy sparkly and warm. Even the cold, half-frozen river couldn’t wash it away.  Buck drops his head back to lay on Eddie’s shoulder. “And,” he starts, put-upon and a little sour, “you had to save me.”

WIP Wednesday Thursday

I missed the tag from the lovely @dear-massacre yesterday, as I've been repeatedly throwing myself into the pit of hell (preparing for job interviews) for the past few days. But I would still like to share a snippet!

This is from my Steter marriage pact fic:

“Your boyfriend gonna visit this year?” his roommate asks one day. “What?” Stiles asks. He drags his eyes up from his computer screen, trying to jump back from coding to conversation.  Layne shrugs. He’s sitting on the sofa against the wall, a joint between his fingers. He turns, blows the smoke through the open window, settles back. “Your boyfriend. That guy you’re always talking to.” When Stiles just looks at him blankly, Layne adds, “You know. That Peter guy.” That startles a laugh out of Stiles. “What? Dude. Fuck no. Peter’s just a…uh…” He pauses. For a few seconds, he scrounges around for the right label. Maybe there isn’t one. “I mean. Just…no. If you even knew him, you’d never ask that shit.” He ends on an awkward laugh, then clears his throat. “Why would you think that?” Layne looks at him weird. Neutral, but weird. Same look he gave Stiles about the runes hidden behind the fridge. “Just always seemed like it? You talk to him a lot. Couple times a day, sometimes, and you’re always like—smiling. Kinda assumed you were long-distance.” “No way. We’re not. We don’t…” “Okay,” Layne says at last, dismissive. He has girls over a decent amount, but Stiles hasn't so far. So he's probably just wondering if he’s gonna take a turn being sexiled at any point this year. Like he thinks he could get sexiled by Peter Hale. Peter Hale with Stiles. It’s enough to make your head spin. “Just asking, man.” When Layne heads out ten minutes later, off to some party with his annoying business school friends, Stiles is still staring into space. Because it’s a weird thing to think about, okay? What with the dumb pact and all.
