Sometimes I do feel almost overwhelmed with how much I like VnC. It's so magic that there happens to be a series out there filled to the brim with the exact sorts characters, story beats, and themes that I love most, and it happens to be constructed in exactly the way that I find most satisfying to write about and examine and dwell within.

Back on my Last Wish BS

Look at these two shots from Last Wish:

In this one, Puss and Kitty are still on the outs. They're falling in regular speed, and with, y'know, the general air of panic that one might have if falling from a height. They're also on opposite ends of the map from each other.

In the second shot, Puss and Kitty have already started the process of getting back together. They're falling in slow motion, lost in each other's eyes and smiling, and they're holding on to the middle of the map together.

I love this movie.

Yeah! Carpwhisker isn't SUPER important, but she is here now.

She is a kit save because I needed her genetics around for the RiverClan Family Tree, she is the mother of Duskfur, Voletooth, and an apprentice who dies during TNP, Splashpaw.

But most importantly, she was added because I'm telling a very different story with Leopardfur. I am very frustrated by how canon decided that a large motivating part of her villain arc is... being spoiled by her dad for being an only child with a dead mom.

So there's been some real big changes to Leopard's family.

Brightsky isn't dead. She left to become a kittypet, but gave half of her litter to Mudfur.

Brightsky and Mudfur used to be very united in their criticism of Clan culture, and the path it was taking. Brightsky decided that there was no fixing it, and it was better to get away from it completely.

She begged Mudfur to come too... but he couldn't. He couldn't leave his life and legacy behind. But he asked to keep his children-- no one knows what happens to kittypet kittens when they become too old.

She wanted at least two of them to have a peaceful life. Water and Oat stayed with her. Leopard and Carp went home.

Carp was probably sent back, in particular, because she has a family resemblance to her famous ancestor Volestar. Successor of Darkstar, creator of the Queen's Rights.

And on that note, only Hailstar was told the truth about Brightsky. Him and Mudfur agreed that the official story would always be that Brightsky had died trying to escape kittypets, but that Mudfur had been able to save his kittens.

If Mudfur had known what would happen to Leopardkit, if he could glimpse into the monster that she would become, he would have left both of them there, in that warm nest beside their mother.

Carpwhisker is not an ambitious person, and honestly a bit of a coward. She's easily walked over and on the quiet side, not the sort of person who will jump to the defense of a friend, even if she wants to. She used to like Aftergatherings, but stopped when Leopardfur told her it made her look disloyal.

She helps out in the nursery, and is one of the reliable members of the Construction Patrol. Her political profile leans heavily towards Fire Alone, but she was not trusted to be a TigerClan rebel because it was known she was rather meek.

What DID she do during TigerClan? Well, actually, it was HER idea to create a mud facade so the Bonehill wouldn't be solid bone, and reduce their workload by a lot!! And then Tigerstar decided it was his idea. ah.

SO many things happening and taking my attention as of late but I am glad I had some time to doodle this morning!

Anyway, far deep in my heart lives the 13-year-old version of myself that YEARNS to write a story that involves spirits and sword fighting and general do-goodery with a queer found family, haha

this scene is still so compelling to me. vriska bleeding to death, using her powers to manipulate tavros into writing out her messages in her own blood.

usually when vriska says shes pushing tavros to do better it feels like an excuse to just bully him (which is probably mostly true), but here it really feels like shes attempting to do what she says. give him the option to make the heroic choice and keep her from suffering.

she is being earnest! she wants to prove to tavros and herself that hes gotten "stronger" by her metric. and even though she has snowman in her ear URGING her to just take control and end her suffering herself, she doesn't do it. i wonder if she even feels like this might be a form of atonement for all of the terrible things that shes done to him. this is her proving that SHES gotten better too.

but of course this is a horrible thing to ask someone to do, and tavros, bless his heart, just isnt up to it, probably because all of vriska's attempt to make him a hero have always been horribly misguided from the start. idk this is one of those moments that really caught my attention the first time around. two characters deeply hurt one another and yet their motivations are compelling.

you cant blame tavros for running away, but you cant blame vriska for wanting to be out of pain quicker.

(you can definitely blame her for getting herself into this situation in the first place, though)

ray having over-the-top reactions to recieving affection from don due to his fucked up relationship with affection is always fun to think about but god i love thinking about don's reactions to affection from ray as well because like. don did have affection growing up. don is easily one of the most affectionate characters in the series so you'd think he would have no problem with this, but instead don is so affectionate that he is at a point where he is way more used to initiating affection than just. receiving it. pair this with his existing issues with emotional regulation and the situation you have is don having no problem tackling ray with hugs and doing so frequently but ray gives don a hug completely unprompted and don just immediately bursts into tears for no apparent reason
