There are many reasons to hate the new hogwarts game.

Good ones, of course. Fuck TERF Lady and her Blairite ass Tory Story straight to hell.

Then there are Shit reasons like mine. This is the worst goddamn magic system to use for an RPG. This isn't a coherent series of spells that weaken opponents or power up allies or impose statuses or alter your environment for an edge, or any cool shit like that. This is a spell system with like 5 commonly recurring combat spells in the books and movies: Expeliarmus, Stupefy, And the Unforgivable Curses. There are other spells, but I'm gonna be real with you: most function about as well as the killing curse for ending a fight anyway.

We have spells that make you spongey in the legs, spells that make you uncontrollably vomit slugs, Three Different Spells for tickling someone, and a spell that slices your opponents gut open and damn near disembowels them. These are all functionally one hit kills. You cannot balance a fight around who gets to hit the "I win" button without getting counterspelled.

On defense we get expeliarmus, the aforementioned counterspell. It works worse for its intended purpose than stupefy, as its main effect can be countered by a wii wrist strap. Instead, it's been best used for deflecting spells. Apparently Expecto Patronum works defensively, but outside of Dementors, I'd expecto this patronus to do Jack Shit. There is apparently an "Impediment curse". I do not think I've ever seen or heard it be used, so the wizards must not consider it viable in the meta. We do not have enough for any kind of defensive game outside expeliarmus.

Instead, the HP spell list is best suited to 2 genres: The point and click adventure game and the Third Person Shooter. Neither of these are jokes, I'm dead serious. The Deathly Hallows Xbox 360 Gears of War clone is a more accurate video game to the dogshit spell list that Harry Potter offers for combat. This magic system is a half baked hack, just like its author. May I never post about this hell fiction again.

I did some scrolling through yours and @/bonefall's accounts last night after sending that ask and read up on Bumble- I'm planning to watch the Moonkitti video to hear more. I'm so apalled bc DOTC was the last series I read before I stopped reading and I didn't even remember all of this happening, it's so horrible :( And the fact that Clear Sky became some sort of legendary hero instead of being taken down and having SkyClan reinvented with a new leader is insane to me. I've always HATED Clear Sky but oh my god.

I guess it closely mirrors real history that the Clan founders were like. Kinda awful and Not Great At All, but why are they still heros in the series? I feel like with how terrible and prejudiced the Clans are at their roots and due to their beginnings, this should be a point of contention for the modern Clans and something to improve on. Like "we can't ignore our history or fix the past but we can change the future". It's just ughhh... not very good messages!!

I have always remembered just how disgustingly misogynistic the books are and how shallow most of the female characters are 💔 That's part of the reason I just engage with the fandom and their takes/headcanons rather than reading the books. My entire understanding of the two recent series are through Tumblr and Youtube and it almost makes me want to read them, but I just KNOW engaging in the actual books will ruin the fan interpretation for me

I want to draw Bumble now and do my own rewritten headcanons through art :( She should have joined the Clan. She would have made such a great Queen I think, even if she only took care of other cats' kits. I think the Clans need more accessible and diverse Clan roles (like the mediators in Clangen- I've ALWAYS loved that concept). Bumble would work great as a "mediator" or "counselor" for young struggling cats (and she-cats in general, due to her own trauma). Why are the only roles Doctor or Soldier anyways? Why does every warrior have to be skilled at hunting, fighting, AND building/construction? Surely a kittypet's know-how and how well-versed they are in life outside the Clans could prove useful? Why are these cats so racist 😭😭

I don't mean to sound ignorant but I stopped reading a long while back and still love Warriors, so I'm just curious- has there been an increase in fatphobia in the new books or something? I remember Cloudtail being sort of fat-shamed for eating kittypet food and I remember (or at least pictured) Graystripe and Daisy being lovely hefty cats. I also always pictured most RiverClan cats as being on the bigger side with their diet (and because fat provides insulation in colder waters).

I really don't understand how a Clan cat being "fat" would be bad? Isn't that a sign of success and good hunting? I guess the closest irl group you can relate to the Clans in Warriors are lion prides, and a healthy lion is usually very large, strong, and well-fed. More food = more energy to exert (but also less of a need to expend energy!)

I just don't understand how a fantasy world where starvation is one of the biggest threats to the characters could also have those characters be prejudiced against being overweight ? Like huh 😭

All good! Moonkitti released a video on Bumble and one of the segments discussed the way that the authors often incorporated nasty fatphobic messaging in the books and how a lot of it culminated very awfully in the Bumble scene. I noticed a lot of comments stating that it "actually made sense" and were filling in the gaps with headcanons and half-hearted excuses that, well, didn't make sense and felt like a way to justify shitty writing choices.

You hit the nail on the head: if we're talking in-universe, it doesn't make sense! But the authors don't like fat people, there is no in-universe reason why they portray fat people as useless, helpless, greedy, and more. We don't need to justify it! We can call it shit without conjuring sloppy in-universe reasons to justify it!
