this wont be articulated the best, but yes every time something like this happens theres always a wave of "i hate men", "never trust men", etc. and as a trans man it just makes me feel very. odd about my own identity. because theres always an implicit, "but not you", and they dont say why, but it's obvious that it's because im a trans man, not a cis man. i dont know how exactly to put it all into words, and this can easily turn into a very long essay, but it all boils down to gender essentialism. it's like to them theres two categories, men and men*. they tie abusive and toxic actions to "real" or cis men but along with the traditionally masculine traits that i would actually like to embody. and because i was born a woman, to them i cant possibly carry the same capacity to harm as men, and apparently that separates me from the idea of men in their own head. i dont know, it just feels like people like that will never actually see me as a man the same way they do cis men. and if people are saying that being a man means you must also be abusive, then i dont want to be a man, or at least that type of man! i end up feeling like i need to pull away from my own identity, or to distinctly separate myself from it. like oh well, im not that type of man! but to them, "that type of man" is basically the concept of men as a whole. idk it all just gets so confusing whenever this happens. and yeah. this entire mindset is so horribly damaging to male victims it makes me very sad to see that people cant reflect on this even when they claim to care about victims.
I understand anon, that really really sucks. It’s definitely damaging for you and other trans people but also for cis men and women because it makes it seem like women aren’t capable of abuse which can be very damaging but is also dismissing men that are victims either of other men or women. It’s just not good for anyone. Remember that their view of men is not what defines you ❤️

could you please elaborate that post about spiritual ennui not being the cause of many social phenomena? theres a whole book I started reading recently (work pray code) which is predicated on the idea that in the US work has come to replace religion as the centerpiece of peoples lives (simultaneously bc of a withdrawal from religion as a country and bc of capitalism demanding that life revolve around work) and I wasnt completely convinced by the authors evidence toward that hypothesis. or was the social phenomena in question more like online culture stuff?
i don't know that particular book or author, so i don't have a sustained critique of them. but in general, yes, i'm frustrated by hypotheses that basically boil down to the idea that a decline in religiosity and religious infrastructure is causing some kind of spiritual poverty that is in turn responsible for various social ills. commonly i see this argument used to 'explain' phenomena including: the persistence of astrology and occult sciences; gun violence; political 'polarisation'; drug use; perceived cultural decline; 'mental health crises'; &c. broadly these analyses tend to draw elements from max weber's idea of disenchantment,¹ a large-scale diagnosis of modernity's devaluation of religion, and from the related notion of desacralisation, the process of divesting individual objects or institutions of their divine properties or provenance.
i think these analyses are really fucking bad and here are some major reasons why:
they're not materialist. by this i mean that, instead of looking for material factors and conditions that might explain social and cultural phenomena, they turn to metaphysical, philosophical, and intellectual explanations. let's think about the persistence of astrology as an example here. on a disenchantment analysis, people are getting back into astrology because, having lost (organised) religiosity in their lives, they feel a spiritual void and seek to create new cosmological meaning through engagement with an anachronistic science-turned-spiritual practice. this explanation sucks. in addition to the fact that astrology and occult sciences never really 'went away' in the first place (& neither did religion lol), this explanation treats spiritual practice and belief as mostly an individual/psychological phenomenon, neglecting rigorous sociological attention to how these ideas spread and how group and community dynamics nurture them and form around them. it also ignores things like the profit motive for astrological practitioners, and related points about how heterodox sciences in general thrive in contexts where professional and class interests create a massive gap between laypeople and experts, barring the general population from accessing and engaging with scientific discourses and critique. 'disenchantment' also grafts onto a general idea about 'alienation', positing that the decline in religiosity creates a sense of loss and disconnect and that this psychological experience drives interest in practices like astrology. but when we talk about 'alienation' in a marxist sense,² we mean material conditions of production: the literal, physical alienation of a labourer from their products, and of a capitalist from the world (because they produce only proximately, via the labourer). the psychological experience of alienation is a result of this real material process of estrangement and expropriation; a weberian analysis that tries to put alienation down to cultural or intellectual factors is not useful for understanding material changes and the 'base' economic relations.
these types of 'disenchantment' analyses tend to claim or imply that they're making universal sociological arguments: religiosity decreases, x takes its place. but in fact these are highly culturally and historically specific arguments. weber's formulation was explicitly premised on a highly eurocentric and teleological conception of 'modernity' and modernisation, wherein the west led the world in a process of 'rationalisation' that involved jettisoning spirituality. that he was ambivalent about the consequences of this process does not make the argument any less flawed. for example, even defining religiosity is not so easy (do we measure by church attendance? private internal belief? community values?) and although the catholic church has become less powerful in certain ways since the reformation, a) it's hardly gone away and b) it doesn't follow that spirituality or religiosity writ large have declined. sticking with the astrology example, if the weberian explanation holds, we should be able to come up with some set of criteria for identifying societies with high or low degrees of religiosity, and then associate that with prevalence of astrological practice. but uh, both of these things vary widely between countries, regions, social groups, &c, almost as though there are other factors at play here, and 'religion' and 'astrology' themselves also have varying meanings, uses, and practical manifestations in varying social and historical contexts.
these 'disenchantment' explanations pretty much all start from the same rhetorical operation, which goes something like: "[x problem] is bad and harmful, which is discordant with my imagination of what 'the west'/the usa is 'supposed' to be like. why does such a [developed/modern/wealthy] society have these problems?" from there, it's a move to a critique of modernity/rationality/the speaker's notion of 'progress', and specifically a critique that aims to identify and root out some kind of spiritual rot or void, without ever challenging or problematising the construction of such notions of 'progress' or the processes of imperialism and colonialism that make 'the west' and wealthy lifestyles possible. in other words, these are generally reactionary arguments that seek to preserve the status quo of the material processes of exploitation and production, but want more psychological fulfillment for a few people.
these explanations are just really fucking bad and over-simplified explanations of how religion functions and what effects it has in a society. again, part of the issue here is that 'religion' is not even really a cohesive category and certainly not a unified set of practices. it works sometimes through institutions, which have their own financial and class characters; it interacts with and sometimes seeks to control politics; it also functions to enforce group identity and community cohesion. these are not inherently good or spiritually fulfilling things, and these effects all vary in different religions, societies, and historical contexts, which makes statements about the consequences of 'declining religiosity' kind of nonsensical on their face. religion can be a vector of racism, of caste, of other inequities; given astrology's essentialist character and resemblence to similarly class- and race-enforcing and -creating psychological projects, i'm certainly willing to entertain arguments that modern astrology performs these religious functions. but again, this argument would require actual materialist analysis, not just the vague diagnosis that 'people want to create spiritual meaning' in a 'modern' world supposedly too 'rational' to fulfill that need.

plural anon from earlier figured id offer some info since you mentioned wanting to learn! obvious preface that im not an expert and this is just from my experience and what ive learned from others :) everyones experiences vary and im definitely not the be all end all lol
also this may get long, its a bit of an infodump! ^^;
i figured first id explain some of the stuff i said. i refer to myself as “plural” mostly, and said “plural system” as system is more often used from what ive seen, and plural offers more context to me. its honestly up to the person what they want to be referred to with. plural, plural system, plural person, just system, a collective, a group, there are probably more but those are the main ones i can think of!
also i should probably clarify, i said “pseudo-plurality” referring to the in-universe rab and vanny, as it isnt really confirmed whether that is an act put on by glitchtrap/will/mimic, or vanessa, or something, or if its actually a separate person. (i like to think of them as headmates/alters, but given that they are villains some folks dont want to which is also fair! it was very common to use the “evil alter” trope in horror so it can definitely put people on edge and rub them the wrong way. i like to explore and see this concept explored, but obviously with the headmates being actual people, not just boiled down to “ooo evil alter” for scare factor. i read a fic once where vanny was formed as a response to williams invasion and manipulation to protect vanessa, which is way more interesting to me than the evil alter trope!)
also, i should warn with the previous paragraph, if you do ever explore the idea of rab or vanny being opposition to gregory and vanessa, some people might get upset even if you are doing it well. unfortunately its the internet and theres a lot of bad rep out there and a lot of mean people. im sure you know the drill tho.
more general thing, some systems prefer to say headmates, some prefer alters, some prefer other words, some just refer to them as their friends or as the others. its dependent on the person! and the “main” person is called the host usually, or the core, typically the core ive seen used for systems who consider themselves to be “facets” of that core. my underdtanding of facets is that theyre more like branches off the host, rather than fully separate (ive seen some people use “admin” or other similar words too tho lol). the host is often said to be the “original” person, in the case of gregory and vanessa, those two would be the hosts, and rab and vanny would be alters/headmates/etc. but hosts dont HAVE to be the original person, it can change. i dont know the exacts of what makes a host a host, but from my understanding its basically a role someone has. and not every system uses roles or falls into them, for example id argue that the daycare attendant has “roles” in their system (moon takes care of naptime, sun takes care of playtime) but lacks an actual designated host, possibly because they dont really feel a need for one and just work(ed) as a unit.
on the topic of the daycare attendant, some plural folk will use a collective name or a “singletsona” (singlet just referring to a nonplural individual) of sorts. the daycare attendant has a collective name, which is, yk, “the daycare attendant” as it can refer to any/all of them. and rab sort of used gregory as a singletsona as opposed to telling his friends hes rab (sort of. he did use it as a pen name). in the same vein, there are also global pronouns, first person pronouns, and collective pronouns (these are the best ways i can simplify them lol).
global pronouns - for us anyways - are pronouns everybody can be referred to with. for us, our main global pronoun is it/its.
first person pronouns is just, how the person talks when referring to themself/themselves. i/me, us/we, and a mix of both. some systems only use plural first person pronouns when referring to the system/multiple folks in the system, some just always use we/us, some use i/me regardless, as usually it depends on the system and some stuff i havent even gone into. and for collective pronouns, its similar to the global pronoun thing, except its just the system as one entity’s pronouns. often it is the plural or singular they/them, we personally like plural and singular it/its for our system. its kinda like the bodys pronouns, which is why it can be singular to me. i hope thst made sense!
oh before i cut myself off i should probably mention switching. i dont switch out really so i cant provide much here but some systems experience amnesia/time loss/etc, some dont, but like i said i cant give you much because i dont switch out. im sure someone else can help with that ^^;
this ask is already very very long, so i wont go into other stuff like monoconscious, polyconscious, co-conscious, co-fronting, being frontstuck, sticky front, headspace/inner world, system origins(which will inevitably include system discourse thing unfortunately), headmate sources, source memories, introjects…… theres a Lot and i dont think i would even have enough characters to send an ask with everything i know
i hope this wasnt way overdoing it, i learned a lot from prior to and after i learned i was plural because i enjoy researching topics like this, and sharing the information i know is fun!

Speaking of staging, if/when it get there, do you think they’ll manage to keep the album cast? I’m attached.
Not the big music names, of course. That’s not happening. It would be way too expensive.
But for the Warriors and Mercy?
Also, when this gets workshopped, what parts do you think they’ll keep? What will they add? What will they change?
Im very attached to the album cast too but I think the odds are pretty slim just because they're all broadway people and the likelihood that they're all free at the same time and able to jump on the show together is. Not a lot. When musicals start as concept albums usually only a few cast members transfer over if anyone.
Also I think the physical demands of this show will be pretty intense with the stage combat and I'm not super familiar with these actresses' history with that but they might have to recast them just for that reason. Im thinking for Swan and Ajax in particular those are going to be very high-demand physical roles and they can't do stunt doubles in live theater yk you need people who already specialize in that kind of stuff.
I've been having a lot of thoughts about workshopping and honestly its impossible to predict what they'll change because a lot of stuff is just dependent on getting the performers in a room together and seeing what happens. Like I can't predict how the Warriors individual characters might get fleshed out (cough canon remjax please queen cough) bc thats so unique to the performers. However there are a few immediate issues I see with the album as it stands that they'd need to address.
First and foremost it seems a little odd to me that it's so short. They might want to expand it just to make it more in line with other musicals for like marketability reasons. Theaters have to charge based more on cast and tech stuff than on pure runtime so audiences might be a little bit wary of paying similar prices for less show. Successful one act musicals like Six usually get away on having a really pared down cast and set but I don't think that would really work for Warriors. So woo new songs maybe! Or just more talking lol. I can't really see much getting cut because its already such a short musical lol.
Much more minor but theres clearly someone beatboxing in the back of Warriors Cypher and it's not any of the Warriors so for a stage version they'd have to decide which of the Warriors can beatbox and I think that's really fun. Maybe they'll do more acapella stuff because if you've gotta cast a beatboxer better give her smth to do.
Also EXTREMELY minor note but I think they'll have to put the Cypher inside of Roll Call because it's just very awkward on stage to get together the whole ensemble and then have the leads do a whole song without including them so they'll probably have to move it to while they're still on the train.
I have a LOT of lighting and set and staging thoughts about this musical (and a more moderate amount of costuming thoughts which basically boil down to ????? Women) but this post is already really long so if anyone wants to talk about a particular scene hmu

also wanted to take a moment to answer some questions from @eye-cri againn quite honestly reading these made me so happy^^

(note: this is quite a long post so yk just fyi^^)
yes indeed the skirt was a nightmare to render but was it worth it? absolutely. and yeee the earrings are such an important part of her design (shes hardly ever seen w/ out them :>>) and yes, they do ring!! (trust zeus teases her for it when they’re initially meeting) the glove is actually tied to her story, she uses it to cover a symbol on her hand linked to her powers (ill go into detail about that in a bit). also kajal is of fae descent, (hence the pointed ears, i think i also meant to add a tail to her design but we’ll see abt that). as for how she got in to the academy, she just applied to the academy for fun (fae court stuff bored her- i have so much fae lore for this universe i.) and got accepted into the night class- she wanted to get away from home for a bit and thought some fancy boarding school/ academy in gedonelune would be interesting (i honestly forgot how getting into the academy works and haven’t gone back to check in a while so. i hope that works TT). she’s close friends with caesar, leslie and hiro. (i personally like that hiro and kajal both have special unique skills- ill touch on it later.)
ALSO YES. ZEUS. KAJAL. ZEJAL. IM. THEY- 💕🥺🩵✨❤️ zeus nationnnnn YES. hes just so🥺🩵🩵.
i truly cannot put into words how much they mean to me. zeus as a character is just so so wonderful and i. cannot. describe. how much i love him :>> anyways zejal (the ship name :PP) has been my precious lil thing for YEARS now im. (i’ll try to keep this brief so i dont go on forever)- zeus and kajal are very much rivals to lovers. they start out as classmates and spend most of their first year trying to one up one another. they do eventually start to begrudgingly respect one another and before he knows it, zeus is whipped for her. she too forms her own budding crush but isn’t really sure what to do about it because she doesn’t think zeus would ever feel the same way sooo she bottles it down and ignores it- subsequently (and perhaps inadvertently) ignoring him too. he doesn’t take that too well and it stays pretty tense between them for a bit until everything boils over and zeus ends up confessing followed almost immediately by kajal. thats just a ridiculously brief summary lmaoo- theres a lot to their story TT.
as for styling her uniform, i think she keeps it pretty simple just a regular night class uniform- she will however sometimes be spotted with a large floofy orange scarf (she borrows zeus’s- she likes how soft it is and he honestly loves to see her wear it)
the type of magic she specializes in are ancient curses and incantations. girl has LOADS of ancient grimoires she could spend hours translating and decoding the spells described in them. In fact she ends up using her knowledge of ancient magic to formulate her own unique spell (a concept i might have borrowed from twst in all honesty). she calls it, “evil eye” and its basically a magic circle w/ an evil eye design in the middle - it defends her from malicious intent however, considering that shes supposed to be rather powerful i took it a step further and made it so that using it, kajal can temporarily shut down people’s magic if they intend to do her any harm. she has the symbol marked on her right palm so she can activate it faster. (smthn smthn hiro and kajal bonding over having unique abilities- hiro would actually approach her bc she knows a lot about sealing magic away + she tries her best to help him research his own curse and whatnot) i also just love how both she and zeus work with magic circles i. ugh💕.
—> also the thought of her, caesar and leslie having get togethers where they gossip about random things while drinking chai she prepares hasn’t left my mind.

By all means ignore this if you'd rather not talk ab the show, but what exactly makes the loki series bad? Genq bc I'm kinda on the fence about it
dont worry i am ALWAYS happy to talk about why the show sucks . sorry this will be very long
basically it boils down to two things: straight up transphobia towards gfluid people , and character assasination . andddd the rest under the cut cause i tend to ramble ab this .
so, for a while now its been canon in marvel comics that loki is genderfluid. fans obviously were calling for this to be acknowledged for a while, actor seemed on board (still seemed on board . gonna be real w u hes the only member i dont blame he didnt seem particularly pleased about a lot of choices), blah blah . so obviously the producer gets asked and the dick michael waldron says yep ! yessir we have rep .
the rep in question was splitting the character into a male and female version, giving no indication towards any genderfluidity whatsoever (having all the 'male' variants be shocked that theres a female one like wtf), and then pulling some good old selfcest between the two at the end to really seal the deal . the bi representation that was also promised was a one off easily missable line but thats a whole other can of worms . it got worse after the show, whenever prompted about it people involved would say very weird shit. kate herron tried to pull the cis queer card a few times if im recalling correctly. dont even get me started on sophia di martino .
second problem, characterisation. at that point in the timeline we have loki straight out of avengers . which means you either have evil and a bit crazy loki or you have an opportunity to confirm the popular fan theory of mind control . neither happened , instead i think they were trying to speedrun his ragnarok/infinity war character development, fucked it up spectacularly and rather than making him a more morally grey but still a little bit yknow, loki, made him like...really wimpy for some reason? a lot of his actions were extremely out of character . theres a lot of focus on him being full of himself (hence the selfcest), which is kinda fundementally misunderstanding him as a character . the self obsession is a front which is obvious to anyone who watched even half of thor 1 . yknow, the very first movie hes in . side note michael waldron said he didnt watch thor 1 ? i cant tell if he was joking or not but on god it did not seem like he was from the show.
also more related to comics synergy, just sylvie as a character . they mashed up loki while fem presenting (why.), amora, and sylvie lushton when they couldve just had amora for a romance plot ??? sylvie lushton also fucking sucked like the comics community generally has a low opinion of her . her ass is homophobic and annoying and an amora knockoff . you could really see the inspiration shine through .
honestly the agent of asgard run is a very good example of how the variant concept can be handled well, and without blatant transphobia . honestly they shouldve gotten al ewing to write the whole thing hes the only person i trust to write loki .
so yeah sorry for the very long paragraph 😭😭😭 this show just drives me up the wall SO BAD

Yeah above. We don't really have outstanding differing beliefs on anything at least as of now, but in the past - especially politically - it often boiled down to lack of access / understanding of certain experiences that defined a lot of beliefs and / or parts that held onto ingrained trauma / concepts repeated and reinforced in trauma environments.
Growing up we were actually raised as a republican that hated those "lazy attack helicopter SJWs that just were upset that they sucked" which as I'm sure anyone following knows we are basically the entire OPPOSITE, but we had a lot of time where there were parts that struggled to break out of that dog shit mentality.
I'm honestly one of the ones that took longer than not to fully leave it cause while I wasn't all the way on the right wing like we were raised, I very much sat in a stupid centralist among other things and that took a lot of other parts banging me over the head to realize a lot of shit. (Theres the ongoing meme that XIV clowns on me over which is how long it took me to genuinely and emotionally realize I am POC which should not have been a debate XD)
XIV our radical communist over there (/hj) when he came back was a hard capitalist for like two weeks before hitting a point in trauma processing and going "Wait FUCK" and pivotting hard
But imo it probably boils down largely to 1) lack of equal / shared access to memories that while "we all experienced the same thing" doesn't mean that all parts have personally ""experienced"" the same thing from their perspective 2) past hurt and trauma and statements from abusers can be held in trauma stuff that some parts hold more than others / are stuck in more than others / have developed unhealthy coping mechanisms built in those areas 3) a lot of development of more complex beliefs particularly in moral, ethical and social shit tends to develop slowly which like anything else with DID can be really separated from one another as some parts progress at different rates than other parts.
OK real shit and this isn't syscourse but I DO wanna know the answer from people who are knowledgable
I see folks with systems who have different views on endogenics, and I assume there are people with systems that have different opinions on other things (like political differences) and it lead me to wonder:
Basically all of us have aligned political/social views, which we figure is because we're all living the same life and experiencing the same consequences of being in a body like the one we occupy. Some people have different *approaches* (ie, pacifism vs. Aggression, willingness to be mean to someone's face, etc) but we are all aligned in our core beliefs, as they apply to the outside world.
Basically, is it a function of the dissociation and memory loss between people that makes different alters have different opinions? When everyone has either the same life experience or at least memories of the same life experience, how do you come to different conclusions?

im gonna word barf about aus and why i use them. when i make aus i tend to focus primarily on exploring characters and themes under a specific situation- eg the roleswap au is about exploring what parallels and contrasts to dhmis.
dhmis to me is about conformity to norms and how the world is constantly telling you how and what to think about certain topics even though theres so much more to explore on any subject than the surface level. it’s about how episodic formats can stifle storytelling. its about how nobody really knows what theyre doing and theyre just trying to feel normal when everything is going to shit around them. its about inaction and passivity being beaten into you as a child. its about grief, and about mourning a past that distorts and warps itself to envelop your entire way of thinking, and the more you look back the stranger and more upsetting it gets.
so like, how can we explore that with the character archetypes we have? what themes and archetypes can we boil down to the very basics, what can be expanded upon? can we divorce the concepts from each other, or is it really the same media after being transformed so much? that’s what the fun of aus is to me. if that makes sense

i was going thru ur blog and u have good posts about ableist aus and i was wondering - what if in the aus the requirements for warriors were different? Like instead of having to fight jay only hunts? Would the muddling of roles still be ableist? In a Tree-like situation?If its not presented in a "work super hard to get what you want" and more in a "yeah they can decide what he wants to do". This is mostly for jay (and cinder) specifically because they had desires to be warriors yet were forced to be medicine cats because of ableism (ig this can apply to briar but i just truly cant remember oots that well and i havent read her death). hey yeah thank you for asking! took the opportunity to write up more general thoughts on rewrites as a whole and i went over why exactly theyre ableist hopefully that provides a better perspective
i think the major thing to keep in mind is that the structure of the clans is very abled centric and overly ignorant of inner community work (for example dens are only solidified or altered when either the area takes damage/the clans grows wrt population) theres a fixation on marking territory and starting fights and whatever with other clans which is whats expected of most warriors to partake in. to fix those implications in any fanwork youve really gotta knead into them and understand the nature of their ableism....its not just a problem with cats being barred from being warriors its the whole occupation and the standard its held to, so to speak (+ that fits into general clan society being flawed but eh thats another thing and also its easy to branch out into thought about)
going to stress other disabled people might have other solutions to how disabled cats are received this is just how i like to think of things
first i think its kind of interesting to examine discrepancies between disabled cats in canon as somewhat of an indicator of clan attitudes and leaders and whatnot. like i think you could get something interesting by regarding lets say deadfoot in windclan and cinderpelt in thunderclan who both have bad legs yet had different experiences with them in clan life. if you wanna go a step further comparing generations like lilywhisker and deadfoot or cinderpelt and jayfeather (+ the consideration of how congenital disabilities are regarded) can also make things interesting and just give you an idea of what to do. having the clan systems stray from a clear-cut common attitude both gives you more freedom for different approaches + adds to worldbuilding anyway. imo boiling down clan society to perfect utopia just gets boring but you can have imperfections in the system that depict the disabled experience just fine. just be careful with them and the way they come across yeah?
(real quick as an in between. god just dont refer to cats/their injuries as crippled. it still happens somehow)
im a little ambivalent on the idea of creating a ‘special role’ for disabled cats to be thrown into. cause then thats a repeat of canon medicine den really. its like ‘oh youre disabled youre instantly discarded into the x role pit’ i think just adding substantial in-universe changes to the warrior rank itself (vagueness is fun actually) or expanding on ‘warrior types’ rectifies the othering angle. ‘othering’ as a whole is just as bad as the ‘exception’ archetype people run for most warrior aus i want to state that clearly. effectively if youre gonna introduce roles that dont depend on fighting or hunting or both make sure theres abled cats who have them too. like say you want a camp-based role where a cats job is to fix dens or one where they help in the nursery, its far easier for a cat who cant run to manage those but also have some cats who are physically capable of doing other ‘tasks’ do the same thing for personal reasons
the tree comparison is interesting honestly cause i guess you could just give a cat a particular thing to do as a nonfixed position. and roles accordingly being made for a cat to fill until they cant and the positions done away with afterward. but youve gotta do it carefully so you dont fall into othering as ive said. id avoid something like that personally i just dont like the quality of ‘well theyre not a warrior (the most noble/useful concept in cat society) theyre actually some other thing’
in general giving disabled cats agency and choice is the best thing you can do. whether this means them deciding on tasks they can do themselves or picking a certain kind of warrior to be or asking for an assistant to help them out when they do stuff. the way you wanna pull it off again depends on my first question of “how does the relevant part of your warrior cat world treat disabled cats already”
very important point, the majority of the ableism also comes in the form of character narratives and not just the structure of the world itself. like think for a bit why the writers decided jayfeather shouldve been forced to be a medic or why briarlight got killed off early etc etc. characters ‘wanting’ to be like the abled ideal and still being bitter about not fulfilling that years down the line are just part of the ableist storylines. if youre abled id literally say just do away with those sadstuck ‘i wanted to be a warrior!’ moments. if you really want to id say pull a cinderpelt or a shadowsight where a cats time in the medicine den started their fascination with medicine and they switched to that path due to personal intrigue. id say a more interesting and realistic angle to it is having a disabled cat who found fulfilment in doing something else besides being a warrior becoming bitter about their entire clan ‘mourning’ how theyll never fight again or giving them the pretence of being a warrior being the best thing you can do.... it depends on the character really
this is just a very basic disability thing but stray from the whole ‘useless/dead weight’ way of regarding disabled characters. like dont place their worth on how well they service a clan or not theyre still deserving of shelter and whatnot. you dont need to justify a cats existence or usefulness by going ‘well they may be blind but their sense of smell is excellent so we keep them around’ or whatever its just no good
last thing i can think of is like. dont disregard how a cats disability affects them. like its fine that briarlight cant fight (or even hunt major types of prey) she doesnt need some convoluted method that lets her do that. there are like a dozen other warriors hunting and fighting and theres present value and enjoyment in the stuff she does around camp. she doesnt have to be brightheart 2 its ok

ive been going to an acting studio for a couple years now and. like look i dont want to be two faced here with shittalking i mean it but jesus christ. like ok so the owner worked in la and has a BUNCH of people she knows like which is overall great cause people who Want to go into acting have LOTS of networking opportunities but. so i was considering going into it as like a serious thing then like. not even joking looking at SOME actirs mad me realize you either get changed by that industry and turn pompous and self righteous (and possibly extremely un-self aware) or you dont last long cause its overbearing and you quit early or it ends ugly. like so after recognizing That (and my family avtually financially getting to a point they wont need me to support them in my career choices which no one asked me to do and i forgot id actually been doing🤪✌🏼) i realized i could just. do my own thing
so like at the studio though im still going and enjoying myself but man these people are FAST like almost everyone there is represented and has a team like a manager and at least a local agent and a good amount have a nonlocal agent like !!! they were able to network and get their names out there cause they paid for these something hundred dollar workshops like they were nothing and just for the sake of getting their names out there and these people had to do this OVER and OVER and OVER again until they got picked up by their agents/managers etc. like THIS is where the rich kids i hated growing up go in their freetime like i mean these are RICH people

Um wow Totally blown away at your last post!!! It looks like THE complete pirate kit. Omfg i love it Which piece is your favorite? And what would you personally recommend for a female starter/advanced kit?
Hmm. It depends on the look you’re shooting for, historically you’re just wanting basically mens clothes, and if you’re looking for any type of female clothes (skirts/dresses/bras) I’m not the best person to ask. However I do know that theres been in depth searches for how Anne Bonny went through her days on board “dressing in womanly clothes but performing male duties” mixed with “she wore men’s clothes into battle” mixed with “she would pull back her shirt to reveal her bare breasts to men in battle” without a sports bra. Turns out there was a type of underbust corset that doesn’t cover up the full boob but still lends support throughout the day, that stops less than above mid-stomach that still lends support, doesn’t restrict shipwork mobility and would still allow bare-breast showing. lol That being said, I don’t know where to buy it or if it’d have to be commissioned. For anything like that, turn to Etsy first and stick to 18th century. So the base still boils down to pants/shirt/waistcoat/ sash + belt. What year your shoot for is the next deciding factor. Pants are typically button up the center up until around 1730, and fall-front breeches come in afterwards (what Jack Sparrow wears, which the first PotC is around 1725 or so). Frock coats are large cuffed in the 1600s, but get closer to the wrists starting with 1700s, and socks and buckle shoes are the default go-to for footwear (but boots were also available, as they’re riding boots and appear in ship logs dating back to 1660, so pirates had access to them but reenactors will ‘cancel’ you for contemplating them). Once you have a shirt/pants/waistcoat/sash/belt, then its time to start getting hat or weapons of sorts. Tricorn hats were called cocked hats (a hat cocked up on three sides, and weren’t called tricorns until 1740s after the ‘Golden Age of Piracy was over), and most of the public won’t identify you as a pirate without wearing one. Weapon wise, the least and cheapest you can do is get a flintlock replica from eBay, around $30/40 and just tuck it into your sash and call it a day, it gets the point across that you’re not just a normal sailor of the period. Baldrics are the horizontal straps that go across your chest (no idea who comfortable it is/isnt with boobs), that either goes down to where your cutlass is (called a Hanger, the term cutlass wasn’t used during the Golden Age of Piracy either, but instead called a hanger since it hung at your side). But this setup is going to cost you around $200-$400 to add to your outfit. You can get baldrics from Etsy for as cheap as $60 or so out of real leather, and you can get away with a decorative wall-display pirate sword from Amazon for around $60 (so I guess $120), but beware your sword will rust something awful if you take it to the beach, and it cannot be sharpened because its not made of tempered steel. Once you have shirt/pants/Waistcoat/sash down, then you can start saving for the rest of the outfit, thats when you start getting pieces to add on until you’re good. The key of thumb from what I’ve learned is that clothing articles are from $30 to $120 apiece. Then, everything else you wanna add that not just like jewelry/telescope/compass etc is $100+ each. I automatically assume whatever it is I’m thinking of adding to my kit is going to cost me $100 at least, and if its less, I’ll be surprised and question it. Go to thrift stores tho. My striped pants are actually female beach pants from Kohls I got for $30, cut off below the knee, dirtied up, added a button up crotch opening and called it good. I have a few real leather belts from Goodwill, along with decent buckles. And not every buckle has to be fancy, fancy buckles will only ever pop up online (mostly) and when you look at the characters portraying extras in PotC, Black Sails, or Cutthroat Island, honestly most buckles and belts are plain. If you do decide however to breach into non-history documented stuff and go for the more feminine look, look up concept art for Mary Read and Anne Bonney in Assassins’ Creed Black Flag. That’s a really good healthy mix between male and female clothing of the early 18th century. I’ll post a few female pirate outfits so far for inspiration. :)

Hey so... How do you like... Find character voices, tones and speech patterns or mannerism for your characters? Especially with so any variations on the same cast members? I really admire it, and am having trouble doing it for a story I've had outlined and a cast I've had set for years, but now the writing time cometh and I cannot for the life of me put dialogue to any of this.
WOOF this is a Big Ol Question but i will do my best to explain how i work 😞🤙 the art of dialogue is a careful one and entirely too much practice BUT we will push on
as such, stickin this under a cut
so i’m opening up with a quick flex on y’all: my dialogue is the one of very few things that was always very Good abt my writing (to the point that in uni it was one of those things ppl never even bothered commenting on cause they were like ‘idk i cant make it better lmao’) SO ive been doing dialogue for YONKS and at this point i dont rly have to Think abt it so much as just. do it. lmao
but one of the reasons i got Good was because an a monotone autistic kid i spent a lot of my early years like... listening to how ppl spoke and mimicking it because yall i used to talk At The Same Speed In The Same Tone At One Hell Of A Lick for years and tryna sound normal took me just shutting tf up and having a good listen to how other people spoke, which is my first tip: listen to people!! sit in a discord chatroom!! listen to convos in a coffee bar!! be nosy and listen in on convos!! humans r VERY GOOD at talking and we love 2 do it and theres so many types of dialogue to listen out for that will help u get better!
the other tip is thinking a lot abt personality and how that shines thru; every person i write is a very different person to the character next to them, and how they are effects how they verbalise shit; let’s take, for instance, yang and weiss, yeah?
YANG comes from a backwater island off the coast of vale; it’s a rural, outdoorsy farming community that’s very tight-knit and quite remote, which means a few things for yang’s speech patterns. ONE is that she talks in a dialect native to patch, which is a more drawl-y (yet surprisingly staccato) version of vale’s accent. it’s also SLATHERED in local slang and terms that any valian will be thoroughly unfamiliar with. we’re thinking of a mix of rural southern america and also somehow californian/australian surfer dude stereotypes??? it’s a WILD mix.
WEISS comes from the very high-class, very technologically-advanced and Strict society of atlas, which has scandinavian/germanic origins! her speech is very measured and very articulate, given the high standard of education she’s been subjected to, and her atlesian accent (again, very german-esque) can be suppressed very well in the right crowd to better fit in (tho it shows when she gets Angery). she rarely uses slang, she’s speaks very clearly, and it’s all very... prescriptive, yeah?
so yang and weiss have literally two OPPOSITE ways of speaking, built in entirely different communities for very different NEEDS and personalities. of course they dont sound like each other; it’s not just a change of location, but a change of person. even if weiss had lived on patch and yang in atlas, what you could guarantee is that weiss could still be a stickler for grammar and yang would still learn all the slang that’s used in atlas/mantle/solitas, right?
this same process can be done for any character; ruby’s manic and talks REALLYREALLYREALLY QUICKLY CAUSE SHE HAS SO MUCH TO SAY AND IF YOU STOP HER SHE’LL FORGET WHAT SHE WAS SAYING AND THEN SHE WON’T REMEMBER AND IT’LL BUG HER ALL DAY SO PLEASE LET HER JUST JUST THIS ONE REALLYREALLYREALLY LONG THOUGHT OUT FIRST PLEASE HANG ON JUST A MOMENT--
but blake is very sort of. laid back and chilled and brooding and considering revolution so for them, they speak less often, and usually in much more succinct thoughts: we’ll see a lot of one-word answers, a lot of bluntness. of course, this backfires when theyre trying to be genuine because sometimes it gets in the way! of course, compared to, say, tribelands blake, who is chieftain and is REQUIRED to be more articulate, we see a blake who is still calm and collected and therefore they speak rarely with error. all very thoughtful, a lot more like weiss.
of course, thats not even going into how they TEXT as seen in frapp logs (since how someone speaks and how someone TEXTS is like, two diff ways for speaking) which is a whole other kettle of fish that’s still impacted by a BUNCH of other factors!
dialogue, when boiled down, is basically just an extension of a character’s personality -- and it’s an IMPORTANT aspect of their personality, because speaking is how we impart a lot of our ideas and thoughts into a space that other people can, uh, interpret! a character is, ultimately, a bunch of concepts that form a person, and when they speak is when those concepts are on show for everyone to see! so WHAT those ideas are and HOW they envision those ideas informs the way their dialogue will function. are they like ruby, who thinks twice as quickly as she can get the ideas out of her mouth? are they like blake, who likes to mull things over before jumping to conclusions (unlike theyre impassioned, of course)? are they like weiss, who had her way of speaking beaten into shape by academia? or are they like yang, who speaks in a way that best allows her to connect with her community and her people? these are all distinct people and ideas!
a good way to test if theyre distinct in your writing is to write down a transcript w/o any tags or names, and see if people can tell you how many characters are in that conversation. the most distinct their voice (even if they use similar words or one another), the better chance you have at having characters with distinct speaking methods. consider every word! consider every phrase! everybody approaches speaking differently!

Davekat is one of the ships I'm not as into because it's ruined by the fandoms Biphobic nature. Dave and Karkat are both into girls and it's totally Normal for them to want to eventually date Jade too when they're older and mature, and it doesn't make them less into each other because you think it makes them Less Gay. im unironically gonna pull out the NO U card here and say the idea that bi people "cant pick" or are naturally drawn to polyamory and/or promiscuity and equating poly to bi is infact biphobic here. not to say real bi poly people dont exist or are doing anything wrong but this concept is often a negative portrayal of bi people in media
let me tell you my own experience here so that MAYBE you can understand someone elses perspectiveback in the midlate 2000s in highschool i dated a bi guy called brennan. i obviously had no problems with this, but in the lead up to this my friends had a whole discussion with me and basically told me not to date him. because he was bi. basically what it boiled down to was "theres double the chances of him cheating on you, you have to look out for him being friends with ANYONE" and "hes probably a manw***e." i dated him anyway for around 4 months before i found out he was cheating on me with 2 other people at the same time. the response i got from everyone was "I TOLD YOU SO" and i internalized this shit for years.
fastforward like 2-3 years and im in a relationship that im still in to this day. im a committed person when it comes to relationships and i am straight up monogamous. so thoughts of being bi were pushed down since i was 16 because i thought admitting to it or even exploring the idea would make it come across like i was less into my bf and an affront to him, that i would potentially wander off or be unloyal because i internalized that all bi people would be secretly unhappy unless "they had both" and that it would come across that way. it took me a ridiculously long time to be able to realize i could admit to finding some girls hot while staying monogamous
so...dave and karkat being bi AND monogamous is important to me. not just because of personal stuff, but also cause ive literally written multiple fucking essays about how its so crucial to karkats character and elevates him from "character i enjoy" to "incredibly well written and compelling character writing that im very invested in, and likely the only vehicle to his actual happiness." as for dave, it just straight up goes against his existing character and sometimes saying "this doesnt add up" is a legit reason not to like something. i find the argument that poly is something that has to happen as a byproduct of them "maturing" and that monogamy is inherently immature in contract is pretentious and condescending as fuck
i dont know how else to explain this multiple fucking times. all this is completely divorced from jade, and this would still stand if it was john, terezi, jane, tavros, obama, or whoever the fuck else in her place. though now the epilogues made it even WORSE in my mind because of the fact that she sexually harassed them for years and people are conveniently ignoring that but thats besides the point
and this idea that i think that bi people in het relationships arent "gay enough" and thats why i hate djk is... incredibly STUPID, considering thats the arrangement ive been in for a large chunk of my life.
im very sorry that i dont fit your neat little one-dimensional narrative that davekat shippers hate jade and are biphobic
anyway if you wanna ignore all of karkat and daves long standing characterization regarding this, and wanna ignore jade (and i wanna make clear here again- i do not hate her, i hate what she did, but it makes me find her WAY more interesting. i LOVE character flaws and think theyre extremely important and honestly jade needed more of them) and everything she did... have fun lol
