Will Graham & the expressions he makes while being a meddlesome little freak

When he threatened Hannibal at gunpoint after being released from jail, using his empathy to visualize tying Hannibal to a tree as he confessed his feelings before killing him

Looking at the gory self-mutilation Hannibal had drugged Mason into doing before telling him to clean it up, taunting Bedelia by revealing that he's planned Hannibal's escape and will tell Hannibal to kill her

When he said "please" to ask Hannibal to go along with the FBI using him as bait while hinting at the fact that this was good for his plan, too, and looking down at Hannibal after Dolarhyde shot him in the stomach and he collapsed in front of Will...

I think the conclusion here is that while you might assume that the prideful, manipulative, brutal serial killer would be the obvious choice, Will is a more likely choice for the sadist of the relationship and has just as much of a penchant for bitchy cruelty and bloodshed as Hannibal. “You delight, I tolerate….” Sir. Your pants are smoking. The evidence suggests you are a certified liar liar pants on fire

“How is it?”

It took a moment for Will to focus enough to understand Hannibal’s question, let alone respond to it. He was on his back, thighs spread and pressed against the bed by a warm weight on top of him, inside him—all around him, it seemed. His mind was quiet, for once.

“Good, it’s… it feels good,” Will managed, despite feeling too overwhelmed by sensation to have much interest at all in using words.

“You sound surprised,” Hannibal replied, voice infuriatingly controlled even as he buried himself to the hilt inside Will. “Did you expect pain?”

“Pain is always a possibility, with you,” Will groused, somewhat undercut by a thrust hitting just right and ripping a keening noise from somewhere deep inside himself he hadn’t even known existed. 

“Pain is purposeful, Will, when it is between us.” Hannibal’s thrusts were methodical, slow and deep, a soothing rhythm and aching pleasure. “Pain is not an accident or a byproduct. Did you think I would be careless?”

Will shook his head helplessly, annoyed with himself for being so affected—but god, he just wanted to let himself feel something good for once. Perhaps it had been foolish to think that Hannibal would let anything exist between them that was uncomplicated. “It’s not that. I wasn’t afraid of pain. I just… I didn’t know if I’d like it.”

“This was your idea, if I recall correctly.”

“I know, I know,” Will breathed, eyebrows knit with concentration as he searched his increasingly blank mind for the right words. “I wanted it. I just didn’t know if I would like it.”

Hannibal made a considering noise, but seemed to accept that answer and blessedly let the conversation drop. Will was free to drift once again, lulled by the rhythm of Hannibal’s hips meeting his, the puffs of breath against his collarbone. Sweat and precome pooled on his stomach where his hard cock leaked with each thrust, all but forgotten. Every sensation was overwhelming and new; yet, awash with feelings, Will felt safe.

He was a boat, beholden to the whims of the tide, and Hannibal was the sea.

“Please,” Will whispered. 

Hannibal leaned in, sucking a bruising kiss to his neck, and Will saw stars.

Hannibal 2.01 Kaiseki | 3.10 And the Woman Clothed in Sun

so this has probably already been talked about in great detail since the end of the show (hannibal) but I just did a rewatch and I can't shut up about it. the incredible level of subtle details in this show is already insane but I noticed it much clearer in my rewatch during season 3 part two how quickly we see Will change.

during *The Great Red Dragon*, Will is back to mostly his pre-Hannibal self. We see him married with a family out in the country with his dogs and more specifically his clothes (I am going to be very specific about what he wears in this because it's these details that are so subtle but make his change so much more crispy). He's wearing very practical, warm weather clothes, looks like an outdoorsman.

is how he shows up to meet Hannibal again for the first time in years. Glasses, coat, clearly clothes he would not think twice about wearing anywhere, kind of like how he dresses in season one. It's also in his expression and his stature (which bless Hugh Dancy for his portrayal of Will because I don't know who else could have done the subtle changes so eloquently)

now let me take you to the episode directly after (And the Woman Clothed with the Sun) he first sees Hannibal and has to come back to talk to him

i'm sorry??? Immediately with the crisp button down, tucked in, with the top buttons undone, hair slicked back, NO GLASSES and look. Look at how he stands and his expression and how comfortable he is, hands in pockets.

okay further evidence. And honestly arguably the scariest piece

it's the dead-eyed stare for me. We all know what happened to Chilton after this, and it's the fact that he knew what he was doing. God, Will was never more like Hannibal than he was at the end of season three. Clothes are not much different on purpose because he's playing the game now.

Sidebar that in almost all the scenes that he's bitchily talking to Bedelia, he's also very well dressed as if he's taking Hannibal's place in his manipulation of her.

By the time we see him in The Wrath of the Lamb, he has already decided that he wants Hannibal back. Vaguely suggesting to Jack to use Hannibal as bait for the Dragon, as if he didn't very well consider all the outcomes would likely lead to Hannibal escaping. The way they're looking conspiratorially at each other in the back of the van. How Will isn't even remotely surprised he walks out unscathed or how he doesn't question letting him drive them to wherever they're going to meet the dragon.

And once they get to the cliffside house, and they get settled and Will?

His shirt is tight, his expression is the SAME as the one Hannibal had in episode ONE season ONE, as he watches Hannibal BLEED OUT and wonders probably what they will do.

There are plenty of ways everyone that worked on this show displayed how Will was changing but I loved how they used his clothes to do it and how Hugh used his expressions to differentiate pre-Hannibal and post-Hannibal Will.

I could write a dissertation on this show it's insane and I will never shut up about my murderous gay husbands.

a detail that breaks my heart is Will Graham is sitting exactly in the same place where he was laying in "Mizumono"

and the crack in the wall tells us a story - it is a symbol of what happened to Will, how he feels
