i might have gone over some of their powers in separate posts but ive never really gone into depth on any of them :)

i don’t really want to give them super strong powers (like nothing on the level as the Seven lol). i think them having small sway over things would be best. (btw im going through each cabin's abilities on the pjo wiki :D)

dick as a child of hermes has a bit of increased speed, im not sure how much though lol. definitely stealthier and can sense traps and different locks and stuff. hes probably also pretty persuasive.

babs- since she isn't a demigod but instead a blessed mortal is a bit different from all of them. @pooky-chan sent me a great ask about apollo and babs and her blessing which i thought was very yummy! so babs just finds it easier to find information and find connections between things a bit easier. as they put it apollo "greases the wheels".

jason and cass's powers would be similar to eachother, since theyre both nemesis kids. they both have tychokinesis (what ethan nakamura has on his wiki - so directly controlling "the likelihood of things good and bad things happening to individuals to even out supposed good luck and bad luck") they can sense when people want revenge/vengeance on something.

(theres actually not a lot to go based on for powers for the children of nemesis so im not all sure on it)

its mostly their legacy powers that stick out- cass as a hades legacy can sense death and can actually feel or see a soul leaving a body. she could probably talk to the dead but it causes a physical strain on her. while not as potent as nico's, she could faintly see someones life aura. she can also blend into the shadows easier. (she cant shadow travel or have actual control over the dead.) shes basically Nico Lite (tm) (i also like to think she unconsciously makes the temperature colder when shes around :))

and jason as an asclepius legacy would be able to tell at a glance if there is something medically wrong with someone and has pretty good medical knowledge. (basically jason is a godsend in the medbay). he does have healing powers, but he probably doesnt figure them out until after he's revived. i think it would be interesting if he could only heal other people and not himself :)))) (he also unconsciously heals people) ((also also to foil cass he probably makes the temperature a bit warmer. like how being healed feels warm :DD)

(tim im a little unsure on atm. hes def a child of aphrodite but i do also want to incorperate athena in there too. i dont know if i want him to be like,, 25% aphrodite or 25% athena - basically his parents were demigods- but im still debating a bit between that and child of Venus, as the roman equivalent of aphrodite has more warlike associations - i.e battle strategy... soooo) he has better emotional insight and can sense peoples emotions. he has a light form of charmspeak thats mostly more about sounding Intelligent more than actually influencing people (like an authority bias. people are more likely to listen to him because he sounds intelligent and he knows what he's talking about- ex: if tim were to suggest someone clean something up, they probably would because well, why else would he be suggesting it? he knows what needs to be done.) hes also pretty crafty and has some more strategic intelligence in addition to his bat training lol.

stephanie i think im set on being a child of Cardea (minor roman goddess of hinges). if thats the case, pooky-chan sent another ask where they went over how broad hinges really were. so steph could manipulate hinges and since so many different things contain hinges it could really be a pretty powerful ability.

however i do like child of veritas (roman goddess of truth). in this case she would basically be a human lie detector, and also people would probably feel the need to NOT lie to her.

damian i legit have no clue. hes the one i have the least ideas on lmao. because for him i would also have to go into the LoA and bruce's parents, and both i dont really have anything im set on yet :p. definitely something with magic from the al ghul side tho!

PART 1: The System of KGTAC

when the john cosplayer asks about god tiers, dave firstly says that everyone and everything is made of aspects. what this implies about sburb itself, i still dont exactly understand. do certain concepts just happen to have a high composition of an aspect than others? like, would the idea of religion/zeal be made of hope? does the wind blow because the little breathlets in it like to do as they please? its surely an interesting idea cole thought to chew on. maybe john can become a zephyr since his god tier allows him to transform into the breath aspect itself, not as in "doing this would make him free from consquence" but more "this guy is now 99% concentrate breath aspect". the kgtac god tier system contrasts homestuck's god tier system, probably because homestuck is meta in a much different way to how kgtac is. ill just refer to them as h!godtiers and kc!godtiers to avoid confusion. Anyways as i was saying, h!godtiers are "assigned" to a person, whereas kc!godtiers ARE the person. i.e, an individual defines their mythological title in homestuck, and an individual is defined by their mythological title in kgtac. especially considering that there are millions of bajillions of class/aspect combos present in kc!dave and kc!karkat's multiverse, it would be entirely possible for that to be the case.

PART 2: The Mu of Pane

now that ive established my perspective on how kc!godtiers work, lets actually dissect some of them. we'll go in the order of kc!dave mentioning them. the mu of pane is only described as "an extremely powerful god tier", but that isnt much to go off of. instead i'll be using some research to perhaps mold it into thw shape of dave's description. "mu", or μ, is the twelfth letter of the greek alphabet, romanized as the letter m. it derives from the egyptian hieroglyph for water, which were modified by the phoenicians and named after their word for water, mem. in academics it can mean a LOT of things, so to save myself a headache ill use it to represent extremely small units, minimization operators, and the cleanliness of an orbital zone. this helps us narrow it down to two things, flow and reduction. "one who allows for flow" or "one who creates flow" is pretty boring, to me at least. sylph and page are already the "creation" classes, so maybe it could be "one who allows flow of aspect from one place to another". if we take the reduction route, "one who minimizes aspect" or "one who reduces aspect". personally, im going to go with the latter. when i think of "mu", i think about microns and shit. if you want to theorize about the guy who lets pane flow, i implore you to. speaking of pane, what is pane? dave says "pane as in window pane" which helps a lot actually. what is the one thing that windows do? they allow for the passage of light, knowledge. pane as an aspect relates to open-mindedness, focus, and transparency the most. on the other hand, pane could be corrupted into blind belief, fragility, and inflexibility. yknow, cus glass. pane is closely connected to light, mind, hope, and rage. pane players can encompass any of these traits to any degree! my first thought is kankri. kankri possesses mostly negative traits of pane, but hes very clearly focused and inflexible in what he believes in, whether it be for the best or worst. theres also probably a pun to be made for him being a pain. the Mu of Pane would not at all be like kankri though. a Mu of Pane, or one who restricts, reduces, and overall diminishes Pane, is an underminer. at their full potential, the Mu of Pane can blur the line between reality and surreality to the point where one cannot tell the difference. they can create distrust, doubt, and infighting among their enemies, and be hiding in plain sight. this is why the Mu of Pane is such a powerful god tier. despite their disruptive abilities, they can still be a positive asset to a team. simply being around a Mu of Pane will make you constitute. mind reading and control is near useless, as if the mu's skull was made of lead. perhaps an archetype for this god tier are tinfoil conspiracists! distrusting of authority and willing to convert anyone by any means.

PART 3: The Tide of Yon

the next two god tiers are tricky, as dave spends little time on them. my first thought when i hear "tide" is a bringer of something, like how the tide brings water to higher onto the beach. the definition of tide specifies the rising and falling of the sea levels. theres also a verb; to tide is to drift and fluctuate with something or someone. the tide would be "one who fluctuates aspect", or "one who drifts with aspect", which are pretty vague roles? im sure it will work out though. a Tide of Blood could be the one who brings a team together, but as their title suggests, it wont last long. an archaic definition for tide is "a space of time" which i found to be kinda funny, both because that would be a valid mythological title and how it segues into the yon aspect. yon literally means "that over there", which i interperet to be something upcoming. yon can be the speculation of the future, or the dread of an unstoppable force. yon would associate with the passage of time, movement across space, dread, sight, and patience. this makes yon closely connected to the cardinal aspects, not unlike life and doom. the Tide of Yon fluctuates and fluctuates with Yon. this means that the Tide's action are influence by the future, and the future is influenced by the Tide's actions, creating a loop. it could also be interpereted as the Tide fluctuating between different facets of Yon, such as the hope or dread that comes from it. perhaps the Tide creates conflicting predictions or even truths about what is on the horizon. im not able to pinpoint any specific abilities relating to this title, but i think thats reflective of the Tide's passive nature. their influence IS the power.

PART 4: The Fling of Rime

for this one, i'll start with the aspect rather than the class. theres much more i can draw from rime than i can with fling so. yeah. rime by definition is the frost that forms on things when water vapor or fog crystallizes. its like dew but frozen. to rime means to cover things in said frost. rime then could be the "ice aspect", in a similar way to how breath is the wind aspect or how life is the plant aspect. rime is all about lethargy, abandonment, and the weight of your actions, not unlike the weight of rime on the branches of winter trees. while these sound pretty bad, they're important themes in the context of sburb! a Sylph of Rime could be a teacher, while a Rogue of Rime can be a deadweight. in this sense, rime is a close relative of doom. the fling class on the other hand couldnt be more different. a fling is a short period of enjoyment or wild behavior, and to fling is to throw or hurl forcefully, typically without care. using this, the fling would be described as "one who discards aspect" or "one who is frivolous with aspect". the best way i can describe this would be someone who doesnt really understand their aspect, and therefore either wastes their potential or ends up being a liability to everyone around them. a fling could be an inversion of the mage class then; mages understand aspect, whereas flings misunderstand aspect. the Fling of Rime is "one who is frivolous with Rime", they dont know the weight of their own actions. this person may live in their own world, not paying attention to the events surrounding them. they may also have poor judgement, not knowing to look before they leap. there isnt much to salvage from this title, honestly. they could get cool ice powers? i guess? but theyre bound by fate for their fall to be by the Fling's own hands.

PART 5: The End of Post

hopefully ypu enjoyed this god tier analysis! ill definitely do more of these if i get requested to, cus its a lot of fun speculating. it did take me a while to write this all out, but thats cus i was basing this post off of three pages from an mspfa. like i said though, feel free to add anything youd like to this, whether you agree or disagree!

I’m American and I’ve always lived here, always raise by just Americans but I do this with every single conversation I have. I didn’t realize that Americans don’t do this and are more direct. I used to think that nobody wanted to talk to me because they had nothing to comment on what I was saying. My whole life I have been thinking “okay so I have autism so maybe I’m not holding a conversation correctly” or “I must be boring them/they don’t like me/don’t want to talk to me” I now realize what has been going on. I’m thankful for this post, I never would have understood. I always though “jeez they must not want to talk to me because I’m giving them SO many opportunities to keep carrying this conversation and they are just not doing it. We have sayings in the US that reflect this too, even in our work lives. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease” meaning if you don’t speak up, if you arent adamant or even annoying about your wants/needs/desires then you won’t get them. But you turn around and look at Japan and you have “出る釘は打たれる” or “The nail that sticks up gets hammered down” which is very much the opposite. Greeks are similar, in my understanding, where if you are too boastful or compliment someone too eloquently, you’re supposed to follow it with some slight or insult or spit on the ground, so as not to “draw the ire of the gods/God/universe”. I think it's more than the media, there are some cultural differences that don't translate well. Australia is a bit more like England (and I want to say Japan?) and has tall poppy. syndrome. You don't talk about the cool stuff you did unless someone asks, and even when you do, you downplay it. There's also a weird conversation dynamic where the other person in the conversation plays an important role by picking up on the clues and asking questions that allow you to talk about your achievements. The end result is the same, you still talk about your achievements but there is a little verbal dance you have to do to get to that point. Americans don't play along with the dance at all. They talk about their achievements completely unprompted, and don't ask the right questions which enable you talk about yours. That makes the conversation one sided and gives us the impression that they don't care about us, it seems like they only want to talk about themselves.

But as you get to know them better you notice that they aren't self centered, they are operating based on a completely different set of social rules. If you talk about one of your achievements unprompted to an american they aren't hostile to you at all (like an aussie probably would be). They genuinely appreciate your achievement and congratulate you on it. It's complicated because ignoring the social rules gives us a bad first impression, but also makes them very genuine upfront open people that are happy to celebrate other peoples accomplishments. I feel a little bad for them because from their point of view it might seem like they are cheering for everyone else but nobody is cheering for them.

OKAY OKAY OKAY!!! So many unique highlights here. The line from Heart Out Is “you created a television of your mouth.” Which is such a specific and brilliant line in the way that only matty can write. In fact, only young matty. The more skilled he gets, the more concise he’s become. Which is definitely a strength but sometimes I miss his verbose and overly complex imagery. Like you can still see hun wrestle with it and try to work it out and circle round the idea but not quite get it. It’s so beautiful.

AND PETRICHOR?!!! HELLLOOOO!!!! Genius.

One thing about “Happiness” though…..I feel like it’s….purposefully…what’s the word….not quite cliche. More like tropey? Not that either. I don’t quite know how to to describe it. The whole “id go blind just to see ya.” “I’d go far just to have you near.” “Never gonna love again.” They’re very common ways of talking about love (and matty knows how to make the common uncommon but he does choose not to in this one) which helps to convey the energy in the song. In much the same way that the delicate imagery of JC2005 and the weirdly formal writing does the same there. Idk what the right words for this technique is. But I find it super interesting.

okay. i love those tiny cluttered museums with a ridiculously specific subject gathered by some rich dude a century ago. beyond that, art/history museums are my favorite! if theres anything interactive in the museum i can stay there for hours and hours and hours. my mom and i had a year-long pass to a local museum that was full of little games and fidgedty bits but then. covid hit. in the march of that year. so we never got to use the pass more then like two times. also my favorite people to go to a museum with are the ones that are really interested in the subject because i can listen to my friends talk for ages (or the ones that let me talk for ages)

ive been calling c! beeduos relationship platonic because i thought that was what their cc’s said, and i thought they had said that they were uncomfortable with ppl shipping the characters. But ive seen a lot of posts that say their relationship is canonically romantic? and i absolutely do not want to come across as homophobic by watering down a mlm relationship to just friends because that happens so much in media so.

what is the canon state of their relationship / ur opinions on the platonic thibg

aw it’s totally fine, im flattered you asked me about this!

let me put it simply: it’s a whole mess, lol.

first im going to talk about what’s happened fandom-wide that caused differing opinions, and then i’ll explain my own opinion/interpretation. :]

(this got really fucking long im so sorry)

ranboo and tubbo initially proclaimed the relationship was romantic, specifically in argument with the wiki editors who had set it as platonic by default. (you can see this in the vod where they decide they’re canonically married— it’s very funny. chat tells them the marriage is already on the wiki, they check, tubbo is jokingly offended that it says platonic and asks if he needs to up the romance).

tubbo also makes jokes about adultry, which sort of implies the relationship is not necessarily a platonic one.

(theres definetly more in that stream alone but it’s been a long time since i watched it so i don’t remember a lot of it.)

the wiki, because of this, suffers from going back and forth on platonic and romantic, seemingly unsure where the joke ends and the canon begins, or if its canonically a joke! a mess, as you can already tell.

this gets more complicated as the marriage bit goes on: outsiders, such as phil and scott, both at one point say “platonic marriage”, which then ranboo and tubbo agree with. however, when chat asks them if they’re platonic, they say the opposite. so there is a lot of confusion there.

there’s also the difficulty of being able to tell streamers and characters apart. ranboo and tubbo both don’t like being shipped irl, and that’s their boundaries that shouldn’t be crossed. (they’re also minors, but tbh when they’re 18 in a year i will still be following their boundaries regardless of their legal age).

due to people not wanting to be accused of minor shipping, they started adding the platonic tone indicator to most of their drawings— basically a way of saying “no homo”. meanwhile, tubbo frequently on stream flirts with ranboo and makes quite a bit of nsfw comments towards him that are frankly hilarious.

this goes on for a while with nobody really sure what’s canon, but a lot of people assuming it’s probably platonic, until: the drama of the mods night. a few mods dmed all the wiki editors telling them ranboo wanted his canon character relationship officially set to platonic.

unfortunately for those mods; the very same day, a few hours later, ranboo on stream makes fun of puffy delivering him and tubbo “friendship flowers”. because, and i quote, “bruh. we’re literally married. this must be how the ancient greeks felt.”

in case you don’t know, the internet often jokes about how historians will call ancient greeks ‘very good friends’ when they are quite obviously gay. so in this context, ranboo is joking that people will call him and c!tubbo, who are married, “close friends”, when he doesn’t think they are.

basically, ranboo canonized romantic bee duo, the very same day the mods told everyone he’d wanted a platonic one.

chaos and drama immediately erupted everywhere. on tumblr, we were talking about how weird it was of his mods to do something like that without asking him first. we ALSO talked about how weird it was of them to assume that ranboo can’t make his own decisions, or assume teenagers cannot be in relationships without it being sexual. twitter did the same thing but in the opposite direction: called ranboo mods homophobic, or said they were mad ranboo felt pressured into making a romantic relationship canon ‘just so people could have mlm rep.’

i dont want to go into detail about the drama that happened that night because apparently official people follow me and i dont want to stir it up or have them come “clarify” things. im just saying what we talked about.

ranboo in typical ranboo fashion apologized quickly and seriously. he was deeply sorry for possibly offending anyone with how he’d portrayed his rp relationship with tubbo, and he also assured everyone the mod thing was just a miscommunication.

he said he would talk to tubbo and they’d decide once and for all whether it was platonic or romantic, and then announce so everyone would know.

it’s now been a few months and we've had no word from them on that development. we still have no clue.

now, here’s my opinion:

i want to take ranboos word for it that it was a miscommunication with his mods, but... we had it on good authority from people on the wiki team and people in the discord with the mods that (while it was happening) they were really going after the wiki admins, and also made some weird comments about it. that combined with the way ranboo seemingly had no clue (considering he canonized their romance that very same day).... it’s very. sus of the mods.

then there’s the canon we’ve got since then. although occasionally adults in the room have called it a “platonic marriage” and tubbo once (back when it first started) called it a “plankton tectonic” marriage, in roleplay it’s been... kind of not that. tubbo and ranboo make nsfw jokes about each other in character, and their characters also share a master bedroom and bed in the mansion. there's also the way c!tommy really thinks it’s a romance between them as well, and they agree with and play off that— for instance confirming that they “fell in love” when he asked, or ranboo confirming that they “make out on occasion”.

people will still put platonic on their art and posts, imo, because they’re worried about breaking ranboo and tubbo’s irl boundaries by looking like they ship them. or even just being accused of shipping real life minors. and that’s a valid fear to have.

the thing is though: c!bee duo are not cc!bee duo. they’re roleplay characters. cc!bee duo are not okay with being shipped, but they made their characters get canonically married, and call each other “husbands”. so it’s okay to write the word “husband” in your comic without adding “platonic” to it, i promise.

telling the ccs that their characters have to be platonic is... weird. it comes off as not only babying them, but also as saying teens can’t date without it being gross. which isn’t true.

(this is why seeing people overuse “platonic husband” so much bothers me. like, they ARE husbands. you can just say it. what are you trying to hide...?)

do i think they’re canonically romantic? ehh, its likely. it’s still okay to interpret them as platonic, because again, it’s hard to tell where jokes end and roleplay begins. like, maybe it’s jokes in the rp too, and c!bee duo are just friends. friends can and should be allowed to make jokes like that with each other! aro & ace marriages exist!

or, maybe it’s actually part of the rp, and they’re very much romantic. we don’t know!

some people say they could be a qpr (queerplatonic romance), which i could see. (a qpr is a relationship that fluctuates between, or can’t quite be sorted into, “romantic” and “platonic”. people in a qpr can do romantic things while having platonic feelings for each other). in my opinion this is a very valid interpretation as well!

especially to your point about how “he always says he wants to be just percy jackson” — the feeling i got from the very beginning of this book was that it was going to be about what’s next for percy, since it was mentioned a lot that percy was pretty much done with camp half blood atp and would be able to leave the demigodly dangers behind soon. like obviously we know how his life after this will go since it’s set between existing series, but he doesn’t. the way i interpret it is percy has just gone through two major demigod prophecies and saved the world multiple times, but he is closing that chapter of his life and wants to (more or less) live as a normal person now that he might actually have a chance to, but is also realizing what leaving that chapter of his life may mean for him. he wants to go to college with annabeth, but he’s going to leave camp, his best friend, his mom and even his new half-sister behind on the other side of the country. and moments of quiet between the quest, like sally joining percy on the fire escape or percy and grover at the swim meet, make percy’s struggles to figure out life after his adventures feel so painfully relatable and Human rather than otherworldly. all of this to say that i felt like this book emphasized percy’s mortal side more than the grandness of his godly side that rick’s books tend to go for to appeal to his younger audience, and it was incredibly effective for me.

in a way it is about nostalgia. i think rick knew that there would be a bit of a renaissance coming once the show finally releases, and people who were/ still are invested in his books and are now adults may read for the nostalgia. but rather than just being a book reminding you of the good old days, i think this book genuinely does speak really well to older readers who want to see percy grow up. because now that audience he had from the late 2000s/early 2010s knows that there’s still a lot of growing you can do after you’re 16/17 years old (and that things will still be good or even better even if they’re different).

i dunno i have a lot of thoughts on this sorry to ramble on and on but this is the first time anyone’s added such a great analysis onto one of my posts and it made me so excited 😖😖

i don’t care about timeline inaccuracies and silly plotlines in pjo. what i’m most pleasantly surprised by is just how well all of the mythological figures featured in cotg (particularly the gods) reflected percy’s character arc. i literally loved percy’s arc so much in this book it’s one of my favorite things ever and it hit so close to home, i’m so glad this book had time to breathe and wasn’t just quests all the time!! chalice of the gods really reckons with the idea of percy growing up and growing old and leaving childhood behind, which is so reassuring but also really emotional to read about coming from a character that you have followed since you were so young. i just feel very grateful to have this story where percy is growing with me and reflecting thoughts and worries i still have to this day even though i am older than him now (😭😭)

1. it is good to make complex characters but rachel literally spend YEARS drilling into her readers' heads hxp are the most perfect and good people ever who always do right and everyone else is wrong so her now trying (and failing) to make them now "complex" completely fails because her  readers who have no critical media consumption skills are still just going to see them as right and get pissy when theres even a little bit of complexity there. Its too little, too late at this point.

2. 184, HXP talking to Helios like they just got caught in a scandal, kinda left on a cliff hanger

185, Helios is gone and Persephone is FINALLY admitting Hades likes her back even tho they’ve made out, shared a house, met the family, talked about her being queen, etc etc. 185 is everything we already knew. 

3. i should also point out printing out a webcomic doesnt actually make it a "graphic novel" that can then be discussed in english classes. thats why we dont study the printed homestuck books either. it just means its printed. also actual english classes would more likely rip LO apart not just for its greek myth butchering, but its piss poor witting as well. I think OP thinks it would be praised, but there's a reason not even actual critics mention its writing quality, bc its just not there.

5. I think the reason why a lot of people like Minthe is because Hades and Minthe relationship was so Out of character for both parties

Hades is known to be sorta a dick, a king who has too much power, controls everything and takes no bs. So he meets Minthe, she doesn’t laugh at him when his brother makes a “joke” and then she charges at him for the hat, says he’s not the asshole but needs the hat back. He hires her and later blurs their relationship. He’s the one who wanted Minthe as a gf but hades never states why. We analyze he’s got a type, young woman going through some shit (examples Hera and Persephone)

Minthe. When we first meet her, she tells hades she doesn’t want to be seen with him, later we learn it’s cause he’s planning on proposing to her in public at a party when they both agreed their relationship is casual. She does try to reach out to hades the next day but he won’t pick up. Hades is doing something shady (hanging out with a 19 year old) so clearly she gets more pissed. (I know it’s stated they have an open relationship but still shouldn’t be too pick to hangout with a 19 year old after a mini fight)However we learn more about Minthe character. She doesn’t want to be queen because she’s insecure and doesn’t feel qualified, hades in laws (who he’s had an affair with) doesn’t like her and his brother doesn’t remember her name but knew he was gonna propose. However Minthe does make an effort to be better after everything is said and done, she breaks it off with Thanatos even though we assume hades doesn’t know about that (kinda big for a character to show who they are when only one person is watching or no one). Minthe actually tries to stop Thetis from a lot of drama with Zeus and Hera despite Hera hating Minthe. Minthe even stands up to Thetis even though she doesn’t have much to gain (she lost hades and Thetis after that fight)

Which is why I find it so out of character for Minthe to go in on the AOW because I figured she’d be like “I want nothing more to do with Persephone” but RS back tracked

I also found the slap to be a little Out of character for both parties. I don’t know why hades has any fear of Minthe when he control everything and ripped some kids eye out and I still can’t really find why Minthe would slap him even though I’ve read the scene a million times (but again it’s hard to understand abuse in the first place)

Which is why I find Minthe more likeable than the other villians because you can take out the slap and you still have Minthe’s character, she still has defining moments, while Apollo has only really the (redacted) and Leto is just a classic cartoon villain trying to marry her son off to the damsel in distress.

6. LO literally has spelling, grammar, and story issues all in the first three episodes, any half way decent english teacher would rip it to shreds just off that alone if a student of theirs tried to make them dissect it, and thats before itd get into how badly it "retells" mythology (for the record I think TSOA and PJO would also be ripped apart too under a literature critical lens, but both are miles ahead better stories and actually written properly as opposed to how egregiously subpar LO is).

7. Ok but there is a good argument to be made that modern english lit curriculums SHOUD be updated, but that's via more diverse writers such as BIPOC and queer writers (especially if they're female), and to update translated works like the greek myths to be from more contemporary translators like anne carson, not poorly written YA books by horny white women and webcomics that wouldnt even pass a basic intro to writing class. this is why we don't let 15 year olds run the world, sorry to say.

9. FP spoilers, EP  188: I cannot tell you how tired I am of RS spending weeks upon weeks with filler, only to then drop a cliffhanger on the readers at the last second. This one in particular is just... so bad. It's a blatant attempt to inflate tension. You can just hear RS  patting herself on the back behind the scenes, going 'ooh, who could the new mystery-character who just got dropped into the story with no foreshadowing or set-up whatsoever beee~?'  Answer: I don't know, I don't care, can we please just wrap up this goddamn trial already? It's been literal fucking MONTHS??? RS is just doing everything in her power to stall plot-points in favor of meaningless fluff.

In one chapter she suddenly added a new normal looking court, Perse has a dream (really weird one considering her situation), we have a cute scene between mother and daughter out of nowhere, plot moves etc. Suddenly we are getting everything we complain about here the most. Also I am an atheistic satantist who practices witchcraft, i am not wiccan. So. These will just b general witchcraft tips & also also ive only been practicing 4 like 3 years, so. Still very much a baby.

TIP 1: RESEARCH LIKE CRAZY. I know this seems obvious, but people like to just Jump In w/o knowing anything & its crazy 2 me. I am a baby witch, I've only been practicing for 3 years, so it's importsnt you get your info from witches who have been witches for much longer. It's kind of an issue w/ its only baby witches pasisng info 2 each other HEJEKDJDJ

But research research research. Read every witchcraft book you can get your little hands on. AND: STAY SKEPTICAL. do not trust everything at face value. Witchcraft is full of cultural appropriation & misinformation, so you need to learn how to critically check ur information & learn from multiple sources.

Also: don't get all your information fron social media. I mean it when I say either physically go to your local library or bookstore and get a book on witchcraft or get one online.

TIP 2: LEARN THE "BASICS": cleansing, protecting/warding, vetting, & banishing. I know this is often recommended before entity work, but hell, I think it's before everything.

Learn how to cleanse your space & your mind & your tools. Research different ways to remove energy, research how it's different from banishing, & research appropriation bcuz again there's a lot of it.

Learn how to protect your space, yourself, and your tools. Research the many different ways to protect yourself, learn how to cast a circle, learn how to make protective items, & learn how to set them up.

If you ever want to work with an entity in the future, whether that be a deity or a demon or ancestor work (i dont think wiccans work w/ demons or ancestors? but i am Just Saying) or whatever it may be, learn to Vet. Learn how to tell if who you are talking to Is Who they say they are. There's a million different ways to vet, but if you ever plan on working w/ entities you have to learn this.

Learn how to banish entities you dont want and learn the difference between this and cleansing. Learn the different ways to banish. Learn about the LBRP, or the "Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram", but please note that's also most likely cultural appropriation but I do not know for certain bcuz I don't do it. So learn if it is or isn't.

TIP 3: WITCHCRAFT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PHYSICAL. a lot of my witchcraft is done online. I have an online grimore (& a physical one) & I have a million apps and websites I go to for tarot and astrology and ETC. I just draw my sigils in my notes app! You can do spells anywhere. Don't feel like you need a million things 2 be a witch.

TIP 4: DONT FEEL LIKE YOU NEED TO BUY A BUNCH OF STUFF! or that it has to be "aesthetic". You can get jars at the dollar tree. You can use a fucking chopstick as a wand. You can use an old necklace as a pendulum. You can go outside and ask nature for things for your spells. You can use the things that you already own in your kitchen cabinet for spells. Use birthday candles because they're cheap. Use glue to close your jars, who give a shit /ref. Witchcraft is not about buying everything and spending like a thousand dollars on tools. Be resourceful. Have fun.

Witchcraft has rules, but I think rules are meant to be broken, but don't break them until you know them and understand them.

TIP 5: DON'T FEEL FORCED 2 PICK A PATH OR LABEL YOURSELF. theres a million labels for witches, like kitchen witches or water witches, and then theres the left and right hand path, etc etc. If you fit in one of these, that's great. The size of your writing is adequate, not too big not too small maybe leaning a bit on the smaller side sometimes which means that you are humble! the baseline is relatively straight, some waves which is great, it means that you have a healthy way of coping with your emotions. the distance between your words changes from time to time which is normal as well, you might be closer to some people than others but in general you have a healthy distance in all your relationships, like you're not forcing yourself upon anyone or have an overbearing issue with abandonment.

This is what tumblr is doing and it's really annoying. By doing this and reducing the characters here to simple boxes it's taking away your interest in the myth, I think that's what you meant? I think your study of Hades/the underworld being Persephones self, cthonic meaning "spirit of nature within, inner self" while I dont fully understand that's really cool. I especially dislike how woobified and depowered he usually is in the tumblr-fad! Theres a lot you can work with him as the antagonist in a retelling I think. In fact maybe itd be great to have a retelling that explores the power struggle between Hades and Persephone and shows how Persephone gets through adversity and becomes of equal power through oppressive authority? Thatd be really cool. Tumblr-fad! Version is the twilight of myths but kind of the opposite. In twilight, the author itself romanticizes the creepiness and power struggle that might be there between Edward itself(although Bella does have a lot of agency so I think that's why it resonated so much with female readers?) while the Persephone has a various amount of versions, most versions being she was kidnapped/abduction with many meanings and metaphors and allegories to things, and tumblr-fad! Version ignores nuance in favor of their ships. I think I’m starting to understand what you’re getting at regarding the perception of victims as “weak,” and it makes a lot of sense. Thank you for clarifying regarding the “damsel in distress” trope because that’s when it clicked for me what you were talking about. I actually agree on that point, I think there is a tendency for pop feminism to kind of portray more vulnerable, sensitive or fragile women as less feminist, so I can see how you’re applying that to your views on how people on tumblr perceive the story of Hades and Persephone.

That said, I think you have a lot of different angles you’re looking at this whole thing from, and that’s great! However I think there’s so many subjects you are trying to tackle here that it seems like you are kind of are only half informed about, maybe from exploring discussions online. I think this is resulting in conclusions that are kind of confused and lacking in more solid foundations, if that makes sense. I think maybe you might benefit from exploring each element further on their own merits.

For example, did you know that there are a lot of different feminist viewpoints on Twilight itself? And not all feminists completely condemn it? In my opinion, there are a lot of things about Twilight to criticize, however there was a distinct element of hatred for the interests and desires of teenage girls involved with how people responded en masse to the Twilight phenomenon. I don’t think you were old enough to be directly familiar with all this at the time. I think a decent primer would be this video from Lindsay Ellis (tho please keep in mind that some of her most recent content is not for younger audiences). It doesn’t cover all angles of the topic, but it does give an alternative perspective in retrospect about the raging Twilight hate that swept through pop culture for a long time:

Also, there is a whole conversation to be had about the concept of “woobification,” and why that word exists, as well as how it is used in conversations about girls and women’s fantasies. The original post I made shows that I have my own frustrations when male villains and darker archetypes are whittled down to something seemingly non-threatening and “socially acceptable” myself (like...turning the beast into the prince in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast), but in my experience, people have often used the word “woobie” to describe any explorations of the vulnerability of these types of male characters when women do so because they find those men intriguing or attractive, and that can get kind of tricky because in many ways, those conversations can harbor a subtle resentment and shaming towards female fantasties, period.

I’m getting the impression that maybe there’s something about Hades and Persephone, or at least the archetypes they embody, that really intrigues you, but you’re not sure what you are supposed to think and feel about it from a feminist perspective. That’s ok, ultimately you’ll figure it out on your own. I can’t tell you what to think about the myths themselves on their own, separate from contemporary feminist media because that’s ultimately it’s own thing, and you can springboard your own perspectives and reimagining off of the original in any way that feels right to you.

 What I can do though, is leave you with some age-apropriate content that I was consuming at your age, as well as a link to a site that explores stories with similar archetypes that Persephone embodies. 

The site is called Girls Underground, and it explores and catalogues stories about girls who go on heroine’s journeys in the “Cthonic” context like I was talking about, as in exploring their own inner psyches through the experience of traversing a strange, scary, magical place. Sometimes these stories involve the trope of a spooky attractive male character who takes on an adversarial role that is sometimes also romantically charged, but not all of them do. I think the resources page may be of particular interest to you because it links to essays on subjects within this genre of storytelling. The Examples page has a ton of other stories not listed here that you can take a look at, however not all of them (but many of them!) are kid friendly.

Movies that I would recommend: 

Labyrinth (1986), which was my favorite film since early childhood, and is the reason I love these types of stories to begin with.

Legend(1985), which doesn’t depict a healthy dynamic, but is a great film and does have a big place in the general conversation about this type of storytelling.

Howl’s Moving Castle, either the book or the film. 

Pan’s Labyrinth is rated R for some gore and violence, and it has scary moments, but I think it’s fine for most teens. The character of Pan is not part of that whole “demon lover” trope because the heroine is a small child, but he takes on a similar role in terms of being a figure that embodies the underworld and thus a major part of the heroine’s psyche.

Honestly, I would consider Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (the original, not the live action remake) a good rendition. It was written by a woman.

Jean Cocteau’s black and white La Belle et La Bete.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, or a film adaptation of the same.

Rebecca by Daphne DuMarier, which is what my username is from. I’m fond of the Hitchcock film adaptation.

Honestly, the 2004 adaptation of Phantom of the Opera is...flawed, but it was my introduction to Phantom, and it’s a lot of melodramatic fun. 

It’s worth noting that in a lot of these stories, there are not perfect, healthy relationships depicted between men and women. There is cruelty, there is harm. But in many cases, that does not mean these stories have nothing to say about relationships between men and women, nor does it say that they are solely tales about abuse and we cannot find romanticism within them. Each story has it’s own flaws, it’s own strengths, hold deeper meanings beyond the surface. They contribute something distinct to a rich history of artistic explorations of the dynamics of power in romance and the female experience with our own desires within a patriarchal society.

okay so idk if you watched/are planning on watching falcon and winter soldier but i watched the first episode the other day and they were speaking french (just a few seconds) and I UNDERSTOOD SOME WORDS DLDJDJ and i was so proud of myself. i‘ve only ever learned french with duolingo lol (i only do like 5 mins a day and that‘s why i was so surprised that i understood some of it!!). and yeah apart from latin i feel like italian, german, french and english are all similar in a sense.. i mean obviously they‘re completely different languages but for example there are some grammatical constructions in french that i think i wouldn‘t understand if i only spoke english? so when i translate those things into english you can‘t directly translate them bc you say things differently, but when i translate them into german then it makes more sense to me. idk that‘s something i noticed so i feel like if you already know multiple languages it‘s easier to learn another language compared to if you only know one language and are trying to learn a second one. even if the languages aren‘t similar then i think you get the hang of it easier.

ppl who say "its just british humour" have the same energy as old ppl who say "thats not what we did back in my day". the world is changing and evolving and we have to move on from this. maybe we should be more careful with our words bc they are not just words. our words have meaning and our words can hurt others.

when the eboys made n*zi jokes, they made it ok for everyone watching them to make n*zi jokes. they are not obscure youtubers for a niche audience, they are mainstream (yeah i said it) and have a huge audience. they are the ones setting the boundaries and their behaviour is how they show whats acceptable and whats not. they are setting an example, whether they like it or not. you can argue that its not their responsibility to set a good example, but thats not changing the fact that they *are* setting an example, good or bad.

as i said, if your humour relies on making n*zi jokes, maybe youre not that funny. maybe shock humour isnt funny and its cringey. maybe comedy existed long before h*tler existed.

and maybe dark humour is making jokes about yourself and your mental illnesses to cope, not whatever these edgy dudes are doing.

lifes been weird and sad , got so much stuff i wanna say dont even know if thats the right subred to but here goes.i m 18 , from Greece , first year in Uni and life is not the way i want it to bei live on my own , rent is being paid by mom and her husband , month pocket money given by dad and by my part time jobat some point in high school i understood that our school years were our most carefree years , tho only now do i really understand itman this post is gonna cramp my fingers shouldve used the pcused to hang out a lot till 2nd year of high school then in 3rd year cause of me studying more i was hanging out less , used to have around 4groups of ppl to hang around then only one , cliche but i wasnt anyone special in school , gotta mention i went to a music middle-high school , only highlights i remember are in 2th-3rd grade trading blows with a girl (think she was 5th grade) ,3rd grade kissing a girl in her cheek then running away from the boy-horde coming after me , 4th grade trading blows with a 6th grader ,6th grade punching a guy for calling names my little sis (we good now see him out we talk he a nice dud) , 9th grade a girl i had a chance with but fucked it up big time , 9th grade breaking a cello almost getting expelled ,12th grade playing bass at a concert in Thessaloniki with a music group of my schooldidnt really have many close friends but there were some from school and other places you can call closer friends , but now even with them i ve started to fade away which i cannot bear but i m the type of giving up and not trying until i m lategot laboratory this morning and this is gonna take a while hope i can get some sleepfeels weird using reddit to express my thoughts i even find it a bit cringy talking to myself but oh welli wanted to finished my summer ones , oregairu has a nice ending from what i got spoiled fromanyway thing is i am sad most of the time , i try not to show it cause i like the stereotype of being the strong guy that everyone can depend on and almost never see being emotional and also like the cool tempered guy type , tho lately i ve been craving a lot of attention that i drop the act of the calm n cool sometimesthings with my parents didnt go to well these past years , only now i can say that we ve finally kinda calmed down , mom and dad started falling out of it around 8th grade cause lots of fighting , big sis kindof took the role of mother while on her teen years , feels like she had it much worse than me10th grade sis leaves home to go elsewhere to start studies for uni , i m left with ma and lil sis back homethen i understand that i have to be there for my little sis which also got in my school that year (3kids-3years difference each) so i tried to assume the role of the big brother but she was closer to her older sister than me , i was closer to my older sister as well , feels like i was doing my lil sis wrong but i cpould relate more to big sis and could chat with her more about stufflil sis didnt open up to me a lot even to this day , she has been a lot more comfortable with me through the years i think cause she told me something important recently , kinda pics kinda stopped cause i like looking cool in front of others but i havent been in the mood to try in around a year nowused to be in some conservatory guitar groups with some other kids there , with one girl from there i used to be quite in touch until recently that i stopped seeing her for some reasons maybe i ll explain l8rwe had fun and i really mean it , we used to go on trips to play songs on different cities and stages , our group became kinda known the 2-3 good active years we were active , it still is but these years were the originals , now there are other peoplefucking christ its lose 8-10 kilos in the summer but i m still around 30kilos up from the normal amount based on my height , got a subscription to a gym jan2019 but only managed to get into it for a short period on spring 2019 then autumn 2019 then lost motivation and let go , since March2020 i ve been doing some weights at home , tho when i look at myself in the mirror it doesnt really change how bad i feel about my body , i think my old motivation used to be a girl i used to have a crush on but not surethings with my parents werent all that great and i was mentally better when i would talk with them , they are openminded af and supportive too but puberty makes you see stuff differently like everyone is against you like the world is against you (last one might be true dunno yet) , living on my own now seems to be a bit better but as our Greek ancestors used to say theres no good without bad and the bad in this scenario is that its lonely as fuck , having lived for 18 years with my family it really hits a weird spot , everything feels lonelier now with the virus spreading around not being able to see others as much as we used to , uni doesnt feel nice , many people dont pay attention and its like the second half of 12th grade all over againgot my monthly money 4days ago , went from 200 to 9.28 quickly , when i have money i spend when i dont i m stingy , mostly like to build computers , watch lots of Linus , Paul , Kyle , Jay etc. most of my money goes to buying stuff about computers food , used to give lots of money to internet cafes when i used to hang out with the guys from school , not anymorewith the start of uni we all met new friends even i but i still feel like i am drifting apart day by day , stopped talking to my old girl friend cause i was kinda done with her the other 20% her and i think that proved right when i stopped talking to her cause i thought she will see that i m not talking to her she ll think somethings wrong she ll message me to go out and have fun , send me a happy bday message posted some pics of me , didnt send me anything else after , stopped talking to her around the start of October , if i hadnt asked her something about her uni and if it wasnt my bday i dont think we wouldve talked in all of october . last saturday i was working in the area she lives in my city decided to call her sometimes didnt answer tried to suprise her and see how she is by going to her house , noone answered maybe they were on a trip idk , but it feels weird man , in the first half of the year me and a common friend of her and me went out one night , ended up being the bad guy to make her understand that she did something wrong that night , after she left i was left with our common friend talked about stuff and mostly her and i expressed myself , i knew that coming summer me and her would end up at different places so i wanted to tell her all the wrongs with her so that she could finally understand what i ve been putting up against and make her understand that she HAS to pay attention to people around her and that she will meet new people and that she ll have to be careful about her character , used to have a bit of crush on her back in 7th grade , can kinda understand why that went .
