My opinion on the Latino Jason Todd headcanon

While I do understand ppl's criticism of the latino Jason todd headcanon and how its kind of racist to make the kid with parents with drug problems as the latino one, to me its more of a reclamation BECAUSE of DC's racism.

Read any 80s/90s batman issue that covers gang violence and drugs, most if not ALL of the criminals are poc; black people and latinos visibly make up the majority in the poorer neighbourhoods in Gotham. Aside from the caricaturist way they r drawn/speak, its not THAT weird cause its a reflection of irl big cities where immigrants and marginalised ppl are often forced to live in such situations, (like most of my dominican family lives in the bronx... it aint racist to say dominicans tend to flock there), BUT...the weird part is when the second a sympathetic character comes from that area, he's white and has a name thats "too fancy for the streets".

Obviously, Jason was created to look like the old robin, so I can't say that the whole "diamond in the rough" situation was purposely a tad bit racist, but its still a lil weird (especially with bruce's comment).

If Jason were a part of the overwhelming demographic in his area, the good-kid-in-a-bad-area trope has less connotations. DC is currently trying to fix this trope is by making crime alley whiter, which isn't bad but they could've just yk... humanised the non-white residents.

I also feel like the messed up way Jason was treated post-death is what makes him so relatable to latino readers. His tragic story of dying while trying to save his only living relative is turned into a lesson for newer vigilantes. Jason's particular disdain for abusers on a few occasions was twisted (by both writers and characters) into him always being dumb, reckless, cocky, angry and disobedient, always violent, never having been able to get over his upbringing. None of those things were true (he was a normal level of reckless and cocky like every other robin, not more), but its an easier narrative to digest compared to how it was in reality; a kid who worked so hard and loved even harder, died to save a woman who couldn't care less about his existence. He was an emotional AND smart kid who wanted so bad to help others get better but was remembered as too emotional (in a bad way).

THIS is the reality for many latino diasporas in day to day life; Theres no question that Latino culture is passionate and emotive, but people from other cultures assume that it is followed by instead of logical. both can coexist. emotion does not mean u have no logic. Emotions can be irrational but they aren't inherently that way, and I wouldn't say that the moments where Jason lashed out as a teenager were irrational (in og runs, not rewrites post red hood), they were mostly done to protect someone (going crazy on abusers, disobeying batman to save sheila, that time he got into a fight at school to defend his friend).

A lot of euro-centric culture is OBSESSED with the idea that rationality is separate from feelings and emotions, but not crying at a funeral doesn't mean you're better than those who do. Emotions are the basis of human ethics and morals, they define the way we interact as a collective and ignoring them does not mean they are not there. Theres no winner to a contest of who can feel the less. And the way Jason's emotions are treated (pre-rh, hes definitely unhinged afterwards lol) is so in line with how white culture tends to punish those who aren't ashamed to feel.

I TOTES UNDERSTAND that some ppl who headcanon Jason as latino are doing it for the complete opposite of reasons, like "oh here some angry emotional guy with druggie parents, haha must be latino". Its weird. I dont like it. And its only brought up so he can swear in spanish in some rlly bad text post where his emotions are getting out. But to me there's so much potential for metanarrative and commentary on how latinos are treated in media that can be exemplified through the way his character is treated. Being latino would add SO MUCH DEPTH to his character and his dynamic with the others.

what is something u came to learn abt each skz member that really did surprise u or that u might not have thought abt if u were just observing them as a fan?

I def want to answer that again in the future when i have done more readings on them but for now its this:

1. how easy going I.N is. Tbh i though he's pretty stuck up and kind of a snob😅

2. how sneaky felix is. He seems like an innocent sunshine but i think he has a very different side to him that otherwise stays very well hidden.

3. how girlypop chan is. He has a more of a daddy/therapist perona within the fandom and other than that seems very serious and workaholic so i thought his energy would a very "no bullshit" kinda energy but he's very very cool and as i said gives me "girly pop, tea" typa energy.

4. how stuck up hyunjin is. Tbh i did sense that already when watching 2 kids room but i thought its just a small part of him, as we see so much of his fun creative side, but after doing multiple readings on him i believe he's a VERY difficult person to have an relationship with (platonic/romantic whatever, just very difficult)

5. how family oriented seungmin is. Very very mature. If tomorrow news cane out if him having a wife and a 3 year old child, with another in the way - i wouldn't be surprised AT ALL!!!

6. han being much more stable than i thought. Honestly i thought he's a mess and definitely has big problems mentally - doesn't seem like that at all tho in my readings. Gives off a pretty stable energy at least comparing to what i thought before.

7. for leeknow i dont have much as he seems pretty similar to what I've picked up on him beforehand - aside from the fact i thought he's way spicier than he actually is. Now it makes total sense to me, and i actually see where that come sfrom through his behaviour in interviews and more insight that we've gotten about his prsonal life etc, but somehow back then i still thought he would be spicier, being a double scorpio (or scorpio gemini) and all.

8. for changbin theres nothing that surprised me as I've picked up on his energy soooo strongly from the moment i started stanning the group. He's actually the reason i started using tarot, because through him i found out i actually have a gift for things like that. Like i would be cooking(or doing something), and suddenly i get a weird urge to like vent and ramble(with like really specific details), and feel so annoyed and hurt and i keep seeing him and like getting an urge to be held - even tho I have never had thought and feelings of that kind before. Idk how to explain it - u just know its not yours. And i endure it for a few 10-20 minutes, and it doesn't go and suddenly i decide to look if something's happened and then i see a certain live or a video or whatever and everything I've been feeling and hearing suddenly makes perfekt sense. Also had periods of times where he's in my dreams, but disguised and its like really intense. But yeah anyways I've went into too much detail😂 basically everything I've found out about him through tarot, i already knew before. aziraphale leaves with adam. warlock is left with crowley. crowley eventually leaves London because he finds he cant stand being anywhere near Aziraphale (hes just irresistible in that way), and he goes to California where he finally fulfills his dream of owning a vineyard. a nice one on Napa, Northern California.

Aziraphale’s wedding dresses become more and more well known, Adam grows well-adjusted. Same kid you know from the show and book, natural born leader, a good head on his shoulders. (Aziraphale has no idea why Adam is like that, but he is so proud)

sour candy, no specific one but personally the first one that comes to mind is something like sour patch kids.... reason i picked this is because jax is an absolute FIEND for sour candy imo and i think it would be funny. if you have detachable parts like zooble, and if you can regenerate unlike zooble, just know hes probably going to pluck a piece of you off and eat you. i just imagine like how princess bubble gum was taking scoops from that ice cream lady in the episode the lich was first introduced, or how she can just rip parts of her body off with ease. thats... actually kind of how im imagining the reader, just sour candy instead of bubblegum! must admit, admin hardly ever gets sour candies so hes unsure of what they smell like, but if youre fruit scented i think jax would mess with you by taking comically large whiffs around you just because he thinks the look you give him is funny

youre theme is oranges. for multiple reasons. 1, admin loves the smell of citrus. but also oranges help with anxiety and stress, at least according to admins brief google search (and the internet wouldnt lie!!!!!!!/j), and it sounds more appealing than avocados and oysters...... moving on, i think this pairs well with kinger because this man is absolutely riddled with anxiety and stress, so having you around with your smell does good for him! the thought of consuming or tasting you never crosses his mind, oddly enough.. kind of pauses when you offer to give him something, even reassuring him that it doesnt hurt and you'll regenerate... i think he would flat out refuse, though.. mix of "im not going to eat you" and "i dont want you to give yourself up for me, metaphorically AND literally"

TL;DR A vast majority of this community consists of people who do not understand the struggles of Japanese landmines. It gets to a point where the complaining can be insufferable, and often misses the mark entirely. There's a huge fetishism issue, and a lot of landmines on here just want to be around Asian girls. Also, it's not called "dark girly," it's called jirai kei.

I was too bored last night and decided to torture myself watching yashajime.

under the cut my review of the first 3 eps

The first ep is good. Its the animated epilogue of Inuyasha, and you can tell that was written by Rumiko.

The character interactions are beautiful. All of them act accordantly to all the grow and maturity they had at the end of the series, its never a step back on the character development and i appreciate it. Miroku never touches someone else's butt, Inuyasha and Kagome dont get into a stupid fight and they actually talk abt their problems, and over all you can tell everyone has grown up to this point.

i haven't read the manga version of the epilogue so idk if this actually happened (bc i wouldnt be surprised if Sunrise decided to include this just for drama) but there's a lot of mentions of Kikyo and she feels like a hunting ghost all throughout the ep and i personally dont like that they still involve her even after all the time that has pasted since her death. yes she was one of the most important characters and we wouldnt have Inuyasha without her but cant she just rest in peace?

so this becomes a small problem between Inuyasha and Kagome. Inuyasha feels uncomfortable w the mention of her and is scared that Kagome will get mad at him for getting Kikyo involved on this, Kagome feels that Inuyasha is hiding stuff from her and just wants him to trust her a little more. and i think its more than normal that the whole Kikyo situation still a little taboo between them but i rlly liked that none of them felt insecure abt their relationship bc of this

And our favorite married couple resolves this TALKING. THEY USE WORDS AND COMMUNICATE AND SOLVE THE PROBLEM. NO YELLING. NO MAKING EACH OTHER FEEL BAD. NO ABUSE OF THE SIT COMMAND (well there is a sit that is just there to check the box but its not even Kagome yelling at him or anything. it feels more like "alright on the script says 'u have to sit Inuyasha at least once in the ep' so lets just get it done")

Eps 2 and 3 are just the introduction to the protagonist and introduction to the conflicts??? but its more like a bunch of information they r trying to force down ur throat. the only conflict i actually care abt is wtf happened to their parents

on those two eps they introduce us with 8 different conflicts (yes i counted them) not including all the new characters. IN TWO EPS. I SWEAR TO GOD I DIDNT REMEBER HALF OF THAT AT THE END OF THE EP, I HAD TO GO BACK AND WATCH SOME PARTS AGAIN BC IT WAS TOO MUCH

and i get that this series is going to be way shorter than Inuyasha, therefore they need to introduce everything quicker, but Sunrise that was a little too much.

Honestly i would have preferred that they didnt animate the epilogue if that was going to give them more time to present us the characters.

which leads me to my second point THE FUCKING CHARACTES. there is not a single one of them that i like (not even my baby girl Moroha)

Towa: I have the most problems with her. U are telling me that she is having a hard time in the modern era bc she is a hanyo and she is always getting into fights, fights that she is actively picking on, and she cant use her powers. but those problems (im sorry if this sounds bad) look like nothing to me. She is the one getting in trouble and she decides to get into those fights. its not like Inuyasha where we see him being bullied for doing nothing, just bc he looked and was different. and this is something that also bothers me, i dont see a reason why towa would get bullied theres nothing on her appearance that would indicate she is not human. no ear no nothing different, the white hair will just make her one of the cool kids.

Now her powers, OH MY FUCKING GOD SUNRISE WTF IS WRONG W U

u r telling me that she never had the necessity to actually use her powers and all that she did was jump fences and punch bad guys AND SHE IS ABLE TO CREATE A SWORD OF HER OWN USING HER YOUKAI ENERGY ?!?!?!

yes she is the daughter of the great lord Sesshomaru but NOT EVEN HIM WAS ABLE TO DO THAT UNTIL THE END OF THE SERIES. HE GETS BAKUSAIGA AFTER CENTURIES OF USING HIS POWERS AND TOWA WHO ONLY JUMPED FENCES CAN DO IT. not even Setsuna who has an actual training and does use her powers can do that.

Moroha: Sunrise writers asked chat gpt "inuyasha's personality" and they got something like "inmature, impulsive, cocky" and just went w it but up to 100.

Yes Sunrise even though she is covered in red from head to toe i can definitely tell that she is Inuyasha's daughter no need to make her "female Inuyasha". Her entire personality is "more immature and childish Inuyasha", yes Inuyasha was immature and could be childish from time to time BUT NOT LIKE THIS. and not even the argument of " well she is younger and probably Inuyasha was like this when he was her age" can be used bc she is 14 and when Inuyasha was sealed to the tree he was 15. she grew up alone, in the Sengoku period where there was constante wars all the time, and she could even relate to the hanyos AND SHE IS THIS STUPID

—The whole BAU team was out on a case back at Texas. Where there were serial kidnappings with a group of people. Most being male and maybe two or three being female. When the team figured out what was the reason why they were taking children they immediately ran out to one of the holding places that was listed on the paper Garcia gave them.

Now Y/n was in the black SUV with Morgan and Spencer as they went over the case trying to reassure themselves that the kids were ok. Once the car came to a screeching halt everyone speedily opened the doors and ran straight towards the entrance of the weird wooden shed like building that was surrounded by a wooded area. While Hotch and the rest of the team met them soon after. “This place looks too small to hold 13 kids.” Spencer tells the group as Hotch commands the police force to search the perimeter.

“There has to be another place, maybe a different area they’re being held.” JJ adds with confusion written on her face. “Theres not, I know theres not. I can feel it in my gut, they’re here.” You say with pure confidence. “Morgan, kick the lock in.” Hotch orders him with his normal scorn on his face. Emily and Spencer stand away from the doors with their guns out for precaution. Morgan was the first to see that there was a stairway in the middle of the small shed.

He looks back towards Hotch with concern all over his face. “Lets go.” Hotch says and follows Morgan, Emily and, JJ down the steps. You stop Spencer for a second. “Stand behind me at all times ok Spence? I cant have you getting hurt or killed even.” Your voice comes out with worry. “I know, I know, Ill be safe, come on we dont have a lot of time.” Spencer groans out in annoyance.

Now the two of you were tailing the group, following the loud clears everyone has been yelling out. With Spencer trailing behind you, the both of you check out the dark room. With your gun pointed forward you continue as your flashlight lightens up certain parts of the room. A bash to the back of your head happens quick. Too quick for you to react and fight back.

Everything happened so fast, the handle of the gun digging into your skull. The fact that the guy had faster reflexes than Spencer could react. Soon the sound of a gun shot filled the room. Next was Spencer calling out your name and finally tackling the guy. You were currently gripping your right shoulder in pain, too focused on not passing out you barely notice the rest of your group running in and capturing the guy. Hotch and Spencer were crouching next to you. Hotch was yelling through his walkie-talkie for a ambulance and Spencer was putting all his focus on placing pressure on the wound.

Your mouth opens with your voice barely audible. “I didn’t even see him.” You coughed and groaned. “Y/n stop talking!” Spencer panics as he puts more pressure on the wound. “You know I love you right?” Tears were at the brink of your eyes. Everything felt hot, then cold, and all of a sudden it was black. “Y/n…?Hey, Y/n.” Spencers heart drops, you weren’t awake your pulse is shallow and your face is pale. Spencer didn’t want to lose you, he cant lose you.

Your blood was all over him during the whole ride to the hospital. He was basically soaked to the neck down. Spencer sat in the very uncomfortable chair next to your bed with you lying in it. The doctors said you had a very slim chance of making it, but Spencer was holding onto that strand like it was the last thing he ever knew. He gently held onto your cold hands looking at every detail, taking everything in.

“Like I said, Ill protect you until my last breath.”

Spencers head snaps towards the groggily voice. “Y/n! Youre ok! Oh my god, ok- uhhh.” Spencer panics having no idea what to do next. “Water, please?” You whine, and he gladly hands you a cup. You scarf down the whole thing as Spencer rambles about what happened when you got shot. You never seen him like that, never so all over the place with his mind racing. Even though he’s always all over the place this was different.

“Wait- let me get a nurse or a doctor and tell them you’re awake.”

ok ok one last insanity check for everyone ok this is a lil different. like lemme just say im clearly someone who likes to go to the dark zone but also try and claw my way back out. i do sappy funny shit most of the time. and the writing of this thing has gotten long and insane, timelines have jumped as i try and parse events. as in i started w a scenario where raph nearly got sold out to his father and is rescued by his brothers immediately. we go to a place where he wasnt and is rescued later. theres been inbetweens where hes rescued but bad things happen despite that. all of this has led me to like his inner turmoils (diagnosis) and the other characters inner turmoils more. how they feel about each other how theyve coped. its good to jump around so im glad i havent said too much as if its all set in stone. im glad im not trying to write a fanfiction to SHARE if that makes sense.

my current shit that has gotten the longest was from the worst case scenario of his lack of rescue and i feel like... i dont need to say what that was? but i think i should point out that descent has a second meaning. its not just the spiralling downward, its also the root word of descendant. that was my feeling about the poetry of it.

so ill say i do feel like im in the danger zone of being fucking murdered for this but i wanna say it anyway cuz i think itll be ok. i think you guys will get it cuz ur being nice. im exploring shit and having fun. it gets raw, it gets hard, but its working out.
