Might be more of a white culture thing. I get called names often when I point to actionable things one can do. Usually from particularly Black and other PoCs, they're more straight with me than white women are when they assume I'm a woman, even if I point out I'm NB and particularly don't subscribe to white (US Middle Class) woman's speech, which I never could quite master nor like.
There was a study on white women's speech about an Italian family, I think, granted US-based immigrants, where women of the family were taught more to be "peacemakers" and use indirect questions, (not the Jewish kind of questions) to particularly needle people into doing action.
Jewish speech (since I was raised Jewish as part of being adopted), tends to have more rhetorical questions to challenge people to think more deeper or examine their thoughts. (Plenty of papers on this, I actually wrote a long post about it)
But outside of (white) Jewish circles, often questions are used as passive aggressive behavior and ways to diffuse conflict. Such as the white woman speech of something like, "We do not hit other kids. How do you think the other kid feels?"
BTW, this is far from the white woman's tears and toxic white women's speech as pointed out by Robin DiAngelo, but does show the gulf between how women are treated between cultures and often I've observed PoCs are more likely to try to conform to white ways of gender when faced with someone white due to mainly stereotype threat and also some speech patterns which are harder to deal with if you aren't versed with how to deal with the toxicity. People tend to hedge their bets.
By the way, straight pitching here, but I'd really, really like a philosophical discussion on two things, though I'm well aware these are loosey goosey. And yes, maybe influenced by the US election:
The questions are these two:
Does true altruism exist? Is there a way to make an outgroup care about the in-group, when they have no skin in the game and keep showing up? I remember the episode you did about Sam Altman? But it didn't get into this question. We're stuck worldwide with people who don't care, but is there a philosophical way to get people to care about groups they don't belong to?
And the other question is how does one sell an idea of masculinity that is not the Alpha, Beta, etc set and can we escape that to men in such a way that they feel invited? I've read about sacred masculinity and also the secure masculinity models, but worldwide the shift towards that ultra masculinity seems to be winning because it feels powerful. The current movement of feminism is asking how to reframe masculinity itself.
I'd like to see it in an intersectional way for both topics. Such a way that it sees internationally and through lens of intersectional queerness.
You've circled around these topics, gone through them talked about queerness, communication, but I've felt like it's a glancing blow. I'm aware this is a hard ask. But I have to admit the last US election and watching other elections where people have swung far right on self interest alone over community has left me wondering if I missed something. Distrust of community that deep leaves me reeling.
I encountered women who were willing to, for example, stick it to trans people over protecting their own rights and philosophically I do not understand why they would choose hate over saying everyone deserves rights. I did the sit down and listen, but hit hard dead end walls, like I was being an elitist for going to college and the pursuit of knowledge is being snobby. Or literal professed Neo-Nazis, like telling me people should believe in Mein Kampf. And I'm sitting here thinking what more could I have done to make people care and care about people unlike them as a really marginalized person. It hit so many walls, and I tried very hard not to yell, scream, but reason through emotions, logic, but I can't help feeling a little frustrated that maybe I didn't know enough in order to get them to see a different way and move them that little bit or at least crack their wall through the interaction.
Separating The Art from the Artist ('s Gender)
an interesting thing I've observed:
I've been making art for my whole life, and I publicly transitioned a few years ago, and it's super interesting how much criticism changed when I came out
When I was in the closet the criticism I got for my work was a lot more useful. It was generally constructive, usually specific and actionable, usually coming from a place of sincerely engaging with my work even if it didn't always like it. So even the negative stuff was usually helpful?
Whereas now, most of the criticism I get seems a lot more "vibes based"? It's more vague; it's more likely to contain factual errors like "The work says X" when the work doesn't say that, or even says the opposite; the criticism is often less actionable; and it's more likely to treat my work as something that has accidental features to which the audience has a reaction that is the most important thing, rather than something that has deliberate features because I chose to put them there? And so it's judged much more by whether people vibed with it rather than by whether it achieved what I intended it to
idk, it's just interesting, maybe it's not a gender thing maybe it's just that people's media literacy is changing? maybe i'm attracting different audiences now? maybe I'm just worse lol

What's really going on with 911twt, i usually keep up through tumblr, but haven't seen what actually happened, only comments from bts, but understandable if you don't really want to get into it, thanks anyway :)
I'm the last person you should ask. I don't do twitter, and by the time I woke up this morning the drama was well on the way.
But you know those journalists who get screeners in advance for review writing purposes? They have a habit of vague posting about the upcoming episode after watching the screener, but this time they seem eerily silent.
Tumblr media
@houseofevanbuckley posted this screenshot of one of the usual suspects liking a tweet guessing the episode is probably awful. And that's it, I haven't seen her posting anything about the show since then, other than a vague tweet beefing with cheese blog.
Tumblr media
Another journo posted this, then later clarified that it wasn't about the show, but about someone. It's just a hunch but I feel like this tweet is also about cheese blog. (Also could be about the Richard Siken incident, but I don't know if she's involved) Again, nothing more about the upcoming fall finale other than joking about ABC giving us nothing but stills from the very first scene of the episode.
Tumblr media
The weirdest one is from him. He simply announced that he wouldn't be covering this episode at all, and instead opted to follow JLH's new movie. He usually has a lot of thoughts about the upcoming episode and would post his reactions generously, but this time, nothing at all.
This is weird, I've never seen any of them act like that. There's been rumor of screener receivers allegedly leaking major info to some group chats. I don't know if it's true, and I certainly don't know if that side of the fandom know something we don't about this midseason finale, but the general mood there is the most pessimistic I've ever seen. It ranges from "it's that bad huh?" to "we're so over".
The extremely limited amount of stills seems to indicate major plot twist(s) in the episode itself. Adding it to the fact that the usually chatty journalists have decided to beef with cheese blog instead of talking about the show, I think they've probably seen something they really didn't like.

this is gonna be a different kind of daily post, but i feel like it needs to be said.
i feel like 911 lone star is doing it better than og 911.
because if you remember when we first started out it was about the calls and not really about the characters. and as 911 grew it moved from less about the calls and more about the people. and as much as i love these characters, i’m getting sick of it ONLY ever being about the characters. i’m of 911 we get like 1 call and it’s only to further the character arc for the season or ep.
but if we look over at lone star, they have a perfect mix of call to character ratio. we get stupid calls like a lady w a harmonica stuck in her mouth that both progresses the episode story AND the characters.
and i also feel like lone star doesn’t give any 1 character more screen time or story than others. and ofc owen will always have a little more than a character like mateo or nancy. but that’s because owen is basically the main character. buck is not. buck has way more than a character like hen or chim. but buck is not the main character. og 911 doesn’t have a main character, yet buck gets treated like one.
i’m sorry i’m getting sick of the guy. buck does not need 47 new arcs in one season. and honestly i’m getting sick of the same thing over and over. hen does not need all her problems based around her kids. Maddie doesn’t need to cry for the 100th time. eddie has been like this since season 2. and how many more time can Athena and bobby save the day together.
lone star is giving us new and fresh things every season, mabye not that much with owen but at the same time i didn’t expect to be a horse girl this season. i wasn’t expecting the twist with campbell. i wasn’t expecting carlos’s dad to die last season. i get actually shocked by some of the reveals. but with regular 911 i can call it. i can tell what the hell is going to happen. recently the only thing to shock me, is the eddie story line from the end of last season.
and ik this post is long but i need to say it. 911, even if they don’t mean to, prioritizes white characters. like kenneth chois acting is phenomenal, yet oliver stark is prioritized. and i’m not saying that oliver stark is a bad actor, he is the furthest thing from bad. but kenneths acting in there goes the groom and aisha’s acting in hero complex (where they get kidnapped) is better than what i’ve seen from stark.
ik this isn’t ravi related but i don’t really care, i wanted to say it.

Tumblr media
(time skip to the first Smackdown episode after Saturday Night’s Main Event)
“I’ve been your Smackdown Women’s Champion for nearly five months now, and since becoming your champion I have proved that I am the irresistible force and nobody can take this title from me. Not Bayley, not Naomi, not Tiffany, and esp-” Nia’s promo was cut short by your entrance music hitting, the crowd rising to their feet and popping loudly for your theme. Since pinning Nia at Saturday Night’s Main Event, you had taken the WWE Universe by storm; your social media following went up, more and more people were recognizing you in public, you had gotten exactly the recognition you wanted all along- and it was all thanks to Roman Reigns.
Since last Saturday and your “celebration” post-match, you’ve grown closer to Joe. You were getting to know each other better, spending more time together, and what you initially thought was a one-time thing in the heat of the moment was clearly not. Joe got his hands on you every chance he could, it didn’t matter where or when, if he wanted you he was going to have you. And who were you to turn down your Tribal Chief?
Now, you two hadn’t defined your “relationship” just yet but you both were perfectly fine with the way things were at the moment- taking things slow and really getting to know each other (among other things) before making anything official. You were doing pretty well for yourself; you were gaining more traction than before and you had a fine ass man to go home to- you had zero complaints with how your life and career were going at the moment.
You emerged from backstage, microphone in hand, as the crowd roared at your entrance. You signaled for production to cut your music, walking confidently to the ring as you spoke. “Now, Nia, I know damn well you didn’t come in the ring to talk all this mess about ‘no one can beat me’ after last week… did you hit your head too hard during our match or something because I,” you paused, signaling to the crowd filling the arena, “as well as the entire WWE universe remember very clearly that I pinned you last week at Main Event.” The crowd cheered in response, boosting your already high confidence as you smirked at Nia. “If you’re soooo confident you can beat me one-on-one, then do it. Put your title on the line next week and let’s see how much of a ‘force’ you really are.”
“Oh, Y/N…” Nia mocked you, “it’s so adorable that you think you’re a threat to me and my title. That win you got last week, pinning me? Was pure luck.” Nia stepped to you, with little distance between you too as she glared down at you, “But unlike you, at least I don’t have to sleep with anyone to get my main event spots, I work hard for what I have. Do that first, then come talk to me.” That wasn’t in the fucking script, is she serious right now? Oh, if she wants to improv, best believe I can too. You swung without thinking twice, using the microphone in your hand to hit her on the side of the head. It was time for a fight.
You and Nia took turns trying to go at each other, both of you countering the other until she blindsided you out of nowhere with a hit that made you see double for a second. You knew you were done after that, feeling blood trickle from a cut on your head created by her. She continued to attack you while you were down, the crowd booing with every hit she delivered. After your body had slumped in the center of the ring she grabbed you by your hair and pulled you up, showing your beaten and bloody face to the crowd and cameras. “This isn’t fantasy, Y/N, stop playing pretend with Roman and go back to catering where you fucking belong.” She threw your head back onto the mat and exited the ring as security and medical personnel rushed to the ring. You dragged your fatigued body out of the ring and backstage, refusing treatment from medical despite their protests. You walked into the locker room Joe and you now shared, while Joe was screaming at someone on the phone.
“Nick, are you fucking kidding me? There’s gotta be some form of punish- I don’t give a shit what the higher ups thought about it, she could’ve seriously injured Y/N, I-,” Joe paused, turning around and seeing you enter the locker room, “I gotta go. This conversation isn’t over.” Joe hung up on the GM and rushed over to you. “Baby, are you okay? Did she hurt you? Have you gotten looked at by-”
“No, Joe, and I’m not going to. Just please, drop it. I’m over it.”
“Well, I’m not. Why the fuck would she even say something like that? How would she have known about us?”
“I don’t fuckin’ know, Joe! Now leave it alone, seriously, I’m not in the goddamn mood.” You went silent, thinking about what you were going to do about Nia. You needed to do something different, something she would never see coming. Your priorities shifted completely after that segment, you now no longer wanted just the title. Your biggest priority, maybe even more than wanting the belt, was to beat the shit outta Nia Jax, no matter what it took.
Tumblr media
“Babe, c’mon, you need to sit down. You’re gonna stress yourself into a heart attack if you don’t quit pacing around the room like that,” Joe was currently attempting to calm you down, you had been completely fine this past week you were training and promoting the match, but now that the show had officially started your overwhelming amount of confidence had completely vanished.
“Easy for you to say, title matches are second nature to you. Muscle memory. I  have never competed for a title before, I have every right to be freaking the fuck out right now, Joe,” you sighed. “It feels like everything just did a 180 degree turn, like I have so many eyes on me now and they all want me to beat Nia’s ass, and I just don’t know if I-”
“Hey, none of that. Y/N, look at me,” you slowly brought your head up to meet his eyes, the same ones that completely captivated your being just a couple weeks ago. “Whatever you’re about to say, don’t. That crowd out there knows exactly what you’re capable of, you know what you’re capable of, and I know what you’re capable of. I believe in you, baby, and if you can’t find it in you to believe in yourself then I’ll believe enough for the both of us. You got this, Y/N, I know you do.” Your heart melted at his words, the soothing and reassuring tone in his voice providing you some much needed comfort.
“You still nervous, baby?” You nodded your head, looking down at your lap as he scooted closer to you on the couch. “I think I have an idea on how we can fix that. Do you trust me?”
“A-always, Joe.”
“Good girl.” He lifts your chin with his finger and passionately presses his lips to yours, resting his palm on the side of your face as you moan into the kiss. Your stomach flutters at his soft demeanor, feeling some of your nerves dissipate as his lips caress yours. He lays you down on the couch, hovering over you as he deepens the kiss. Breathless, he pulls away, leaning his forehead against yours and looking lovingly into your eyes. “You still feelin’ nervous, baby?”
“Y-yeah,” you breathed out, “a little less, but still pretty nervous.”
“I guess I’ll have to keep going then, don’t I?” His lips find their way back to yours, resting there for a moment before trailing along your jawbone and down your neck, leaving a few wet kisses at the base of your throat before continuing his path downward. Your breathing had picked up, and you were now looking down at him as his lips left a trail down your abdomen.
“A-are you sure we should… now? I mean, I have my match later and I-”
“Shhh, I promise I’ll be quick. Just wanna take care of you, help my baby out,” he muttered against your hip bone as he teased the lining of your ring gear you had been wearing. You sighed contently, leaning your head back against the arm of the couch and allowing yourself to relax into his touch. His fingers interlock in the lining of your bottoms as he looks up for you, asking for permission to remove them. You lift your hips off the couch, allowing him to slowly drag the material down your legs and throw them to the side. He snakes both hands up your legs, kneading the soft flesh of your thighs before splitting them apart and exposing you to him. Your body was so reactive to him- Joe loved how goosebumps would scatter across your skin at the brush of his lips or how your eyes would flutter closed and your eyebrows would scrunch together with just his touch, but most of all, he loved how how wet he made you without doing a thing to you.
“Fuck, ma, always so ready for me,” you moaned loudly and bucked your hips, desperate for any sort of friction, “you gon’ have to be quiet for me, don’t want nobody to hear us, right baby?” You nodded and bit your lip, trying to hold in your cries and his fingers danced up the smooth skin of your inner thighs and through your folds, leaning down to make his face level with your core and presses a soft kiss on your clit before wrapping his lips around the swollen bud, nipping and sucking while he continues to drag his fingers along your slit before pushing a finger inside. His thrusts are slow, putting his focus on his mouth as he eats you with a burning intensity. His tongue works itself in ways that set your body on fire, the scruff of his beard along with it only adding to the sensation he’s giving you. The lip you’re biting to keep quiet is nearly drawing blood. You want to cry out, you want to moan his praises loud enough for the crowd inside the arena to hear, but you know you can’t so you continue to restrain yourself despite wanting to do the complete opposite.
He replaces his fingers with his tongue now, pumping it inside of you and using one to pin your hips down and the other to draw slow circles into your clit. This time you can’t help yourself; your clit is so sensitive that the second his fingers brushed it, you were done for. He pauses for a moment to remove his t-shirt he was wearing and you whine from the loss of contact, watching as he morphs the cotton material into a ball and hands it over to you, bringing his hand back down to your clit. “Bite down on this, since you can’t keep yourself quiet, I’ll make you.” You hesitate for a moment and look down at him, his features darkening and giving you a sly smirk before nodding his head. You bring the material to your lips before biting down on it, your senses being completely filled by Joe. He goes back to eating you as you moan into the cloth, the material successfully muffling your cries. Joe’s movements become more and more desperate, moving his tongue and fingers faster as he can sense you’re close. You can’t stop your moans now, saliva drooling from the corner of your mouth as you feel yourself getting closer to your release. Your legs begin to shake and Joe, noticing you were close, dives his head deeper into your pussy, trapping you with his mouth. Your eyes squeeze shut as you inhale, breathing in his scent and cologne you were using as a gag, triggering your own orgasm. You came on his tongue hard, shaking and moaning into the fabric of his shirt as he laps up your juices like an animal deprived of water. You even your breathing and throw his shirt back at him, the both of you laughing as he crawls on top of you.
“Oh, you wanna throw things at me do you? I might just have to teach you a le-”
Joe was interrupted by someone knocking on the door to his locker room. “Excuse me, Ms. Y/N? It’s almost time for your match, we need to head to Gorilla to finalize some things real quick.” You both sigh, him getting off of you as you put your bottoms back on in a rush. You make a run for the door to hurry and get to your position, but he grabs your arm to stop you. “You still feeling nervous?” You smiled at him and shook your head, going to thank him but getting cut off. “Good luck out there, baby. I’ll be waiting for you in Gorilla for you to show me that new title,” he kisses your cheek and you blush.
“Thank you, Joe, for everything. I mean it, I wouldn’t be doing this without you.” He gives you a soft smile and ushers you out the door, as you prepare yourself for possibly the biggest match of your entire career.
Tumblr media
“Ughhh,” you groaned as Nia dragged you from the center of the ring to the corner, preparing to give you an Annihilator and win this match. From the jump Nia had punished you, much to the crowd’s distaste. It seemed like everybody in the arena had been behind you and you felt it, right up until the bell rang and she started throwing heavy combinations your way. You managed to sneak in a couple pieces of offense but none were convincing enough to give you any sort of edge. Nia got on the ropes, and performed the move. She remained seated on you, trying to get the pin. 1… 2… kick out. You pushed her off of you and sat on your heels, gripping your side. Jesus, my fuckin’ ribs.
Finally to your feet, you unload on Nia as she laid on the ground. Kicks, punches, springboard moves, you threw the whole arsenal but each pin attempt gave a 1 or 2 count, and never close calls. You knew deep down you were going to have to do something completely insane to get this win, so you start stringing things together to get it done. You start by giving her a drop kick to send her to the outside, following her out, then throwing her into the steel steps. You dragged her by the hair to the announce table, laying her on it as you ran to the ring and climbed to the top rope. You made sure everyone near the table had cleared before crossing your heart and doing a senton, landing on Nia as the table and collapsing along with it. You could tell that Nia was nearly to the breaking point, so you mustered all the energy and strength you could to drag her back into the ring and climbed to the top rope once more. You hit your finisher, but wasn’t satisfied. You wanted no doubts, so you climbed up and hit it again, straddling her shoulders and hooking your arms around her legs. The arena was so loud you could barely hear the ref’s count. 1… 2… 3… ‘Here is your winner, and the NEW… WWE Women’s Champion… Y/N!’
You couldn’t even process what had just happened, all you wanted to do was get the hell out of that ring so you snatched the title from the ref and escaped. You slowed down when you made it to the stage, clutching the title in your arms and looking down at it with tears brimming your eyes. Your knees felt weak, and your heart was beating out of your chest. You did it. You triumphantly raised the title in the air, tears starting to fall as you smiled and took the moment in. After the cameras had cut and you had taken a few pictures with fans, you walked backstage only to be greeted with cheers. You made your way to everyone, getting pictures, hugs, and everything else in between before locking eyes with the man you wanted to see ever since your hand was raised. Joe. You practically ran to him, jumping into his arms and wrapping yours around his neck, hugging him tightly. He spun you around and smiled from ear to ear.
“I’m so fuckin’ proud of you, baby. You had a helluva match out there, I knew you had it in you,” he kissed you sweetly right there, not caring who was watching as you grinned widely. “Now, let’s get you home,” he winked at you, setting you down before whispering low in your ear.
“We’ve got some more celebrating to do tonight.”

DRDT Theory : Recycled/Sacrificed Cast Members
[BACKGROUND]
So, in V3 (specifically in the 6th trial), it's said that the rest of the cast can leave if two people choose to sacrifice themselves.
Tumblr media
At first, they think that sacrifice means death until it's revealed that the two sacrifices will move on to the next killing game.
Tumblr media
You guys know where I'm going with this, right?
[THE SURVIVORS]
XANDER MATTHEWS
The first and more obvious option for those who sacrificed themselves in the last game is Xander.
Now, he has the personality for self-sacrifice.
But, if I remember correctly, they were originally going to vote for the sacrifices before Kiibo and Maki stepped in.
Either he was voted to be the sacrifice, or he volunteered himself (with or without knowing what it really meant.)
(isn't it funny that he might have volunteered while one of his canon likes is volunteering?)
Main Reasonings:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
•This dialogue in this scene makes more sense if he was in a killing game
“Them” could be the other people in the killing game. Of course, “her” is… well, I won’t spill just yet.
And, most of all, he says that he has to end the killing game. How the hell would he end a killing game without having been in one? (don’t answer that)
Tumblr media
•When was this?
Why would he be in the same outfit, while having both eyes?
It makes sense if he was in a previous killing game, doesn't it?
(while we don't see both his eyes, he doesn't have the strings of the eyepatch)
EDEN TOBISA
Eden is the less obvious choice, but it makes sense when you think about it!
Just like Xander, she has the type of personality that would sacrifice themselves. Although, I can’t see people voting for her.
Main Reasonings:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
•First of all, there’s the similarities between her handwriting and the handwriting of the note that Xander received.
Also, I know a lot of people think that Xander wrote that note. But just look at it.
The T’s are the same, the E’s are the same, the A’s are the same. Don’t deny that it’s a strong, and the most likely, possibility.
I’ve mentioned it before (in a different post), but the handwriting thing makes much more sense in this context.
Tumblr media
And similar to Xander, an image of her past self is seen wearing the same outfit.
Why, why, why?
Why would the two of them have images of their past selves wearing the exact same outfits?
Oh, wait a second.
In V3, we see Rantaro’s past self. He was wearing the same outfit that he did in the killing game. And he was a member of a past game too.
And it’s not like we haven’t seen them in other outfits. Xander has been seen in another outfit in his bonus episode.
I really don’t know if I’m making sense at this point but it works in my head so whatever.
Tumblr media
•Why is this secret so mundane? (At least in comparison to the others)
Wouldn’t it make more sense to say something about what she did to Xander?
Of course, that could just be because they didn’t want her to know about something she did during the missing year.
But it could also be because it happened during the last killing game.
That one’s a stretch but I just thought I’d put it out there.
REASONING FOR BOTH OF THEM:
Why specifically these two?
Dev didn’t have to post the colored picture of Xander.
It’s clearly important.
Same for Eden.
One final theory that could be connected to this:
Tumblr media
Why would he say this?
Unless he knew Teruko in the past, of course.
My guess is that Teruko was named the mastermind during his game. Whether or not she actually appeared, who knows. But she was to blame (supposedly) (to his knowledge) for the killing game. And apparently, killer her would do something important.
This ties in to the note that told Xander to kill Teruko as well!
My final thing is just a guess, or maybe a call and respond.
Who do we think were the survivors of their game?
My first guess was maybe a couple of the AltDRDT characters, but I’m not sure.
Let me know if you guys have any other evidence for this theory!!
(thanks to kubz scouts for the screenshots of v3)

In my previous post, I got several reblogs and comments where people said that they didn’t dislike Maddie because of her relationship with Caitlyn but more because of who she is as a character. The reasoning people gave was because of what she said about Vi being “one of the good ones” in Act 1 of this season.
Tumblr media
Let me remind you that in this scene Maddie is telling Vi about how Caitlyn basically hyped her up to all the enforcers and how she’s become somewhat of a legend amongst them. She then goes on to say that things were rough after Marcus betrayed them and that she’s glad that there are still good ones left.
There seems to be a lot of debate what these “good ones” in question refers to and I think the obvious interpretation here is that Maddie is talking about enforcers as that is the context of their conversation and it makes sense as she mentioned Marcus’ betrayal right before that line.
However, there’s another take going around that became fairly popular after Act 1 and I also believe the last scene with Maddie banging her chest in support to Ambessa’s proposal fuelled this take.
People believe that rather than enforcers, the hidden meaning behind the line was the Maddie was referring to Zaunites. And that she was calling Vi one of the good Zaunites.
Hence, this makes Maddie prejudiced towards Zaunites and that was why she was willing to bang her chest in support to Ambessa.
I am going to be honest I did consider this as a possibility after watching Act 1 purely because we hadn’t seen enough of Maddie yet and I didn’t know what to make of her quite yet (I wasn’t extremely passionate about the fact that she was a Zaunite hater and had dubious motives I was just very neutral about her and considered that this could be a possibility).
However, after watching Act 2 and hearing some of Amanda’s comments about her character I do believe I have no reason to actually believe she has any ill intent to be honest.
I was actually surprised to hear that people still strongly hated her character and believed she was prejudiced towards Zaunites even after this act. I personally do not agree with stance and that’s why I feel the need to voice my reasons as to why.
Tumblr media
If she was prejudiced against Zaunites and supported Ambessa, why would she encourage Caitlyn to call the whole thing off?
And yes, the key word here is encouraging. She didn’t sound like she was pressuring Caitlyn to do something and make a decision. Her wording was soft and supportive.
She was encouraging Caitlyn as a leader and empowering her rather than having any ulterior motives on her own.
If you contextualise this scene with Maddie banging her chest in Act 1, I would like to point out that Maddie wasn’t looking at Ambessa.
Tumblr media
She was looking at Caitlyn. Based on her actions being nothing but supportive to Caitlyn in Act 2, this makes complete sense.
Also, with all this context, let’s go back to the “one of the good ones” scene.
With Maddie being supportive in all these other scenes, she’s also speaking in a similar manner here with Vi, she’s encouraging her and let me remind you that Vi considers Caitlyn’s proposal to become an enforcer after Maddie’s little pep talk.
It makes little to no sense to interpret this as a double messaged “I hate Zaunites” when she doesn’t seem to be shown to act that way in other scenes. Plus, she was talking about enforcers and Marcus before too. It’s also the way that the light falls on her in this scene too that characterises her as a ray of sunshine (could be a death flag too though haha).
Tumblr media
Also this makes me think of what Amanda said after this Act about Maddie being the angel on Caitlyn’s shoulder whilst Ambessa was the devil in episode 4. This light could also represent a halo.
Maybe she could still have dubious motives and some of you are right for mistrusting her but that is different to outright hating on her because some of her scenes could be interpreted as her hating Zaunites (as I’ve explained above I personally do not see it and so far it does not make a whole lot of sense). Anything could happen in Act 3 so I am not going to comment on the future of her character but I do not as of now get the impression that she has any ill intent towards Zaunites.
Haha. And that is my hot take on Maddie as a character. I never really thought I’d write two posts linked to this character but for some reason fandom discourse just fuelled me to share my opinions. I know Maddie is a character that is currently striking a lot of controversy due to being a perceived threat against one of the main ships on this show but…I encourage you to be open-minded and understand that this show tries its best to make their characters seem as human as possible. Caitlyn is human for needing to fill the void in her heart that Vi left. And Maddie is human for loving Caitlyn even if it’s idolisation on her part or an innocence that makes her struggle to see that Caitlyn is uninterested. That is human.
I’d just like to clarify that you are allowed to disagree with my opinions and I am also open to the possibility that I could be wrong about Maddie and Act 3 could make my post look foolish. But I’m still going to post what I believe as of now and how I interpreted her character and I hope you’ll consider my viewpoint (feel free to share yours too. this is an open discussion. thank you!)

Episode 11 really showed Jack's growth
Okay, I know what you're gonna say: "but he lashed out at Joke! He threw him away again! He got so angry!". And like- yes he lashed out, yes he didn't stop to think, yes he got extremely angry. But that literally happened in the first ten minutes of the episode, alright? There's more than a hour after that, so please let's focus on everything else that happened too, and the fact that Jack acting like that literally only lasts for a short while (as I already said, everything happens extremely fast in this episode, if you really think about it he only stays made for less than a day, which is a perfectly valid period of time to need to sort through complicated feelings - hell, it's an incredibly short time, Jack got over himself extremely quickly).
Anyway, lemme go in order, because I'm not just talking about his relationship with Joke here, but about everything else too.
There are two main things about Jack's character arc (well, more than two, but I wanna focus on these ones now): first, his tendency to hold grudges and be hard on forgiveness and, second, the fact that he never stands up to power and powerful people in an active way (I'll explain better what I mean later).
As for the first, I made a whole other post about it, so I'm not gonna repeat everything again, but let's see how in this episode he got to the end of his growth in this aspect.
He's extremely mad at the start of the episode (rightfully so), so much that he goes on a rampage (we love to see it, tbh), even though he should know that it wouldn't end well.
When he wakes up, he's still mad - of course he is, he didn't have time to think and process everything yet, given that he was beaten unconscious until now. He gets mad at Grandma when she mentions Joke, and then he lashes out at Save and Hope. It's understandable.
But then? Then it only takes Hope saying this for him to calm down and put things into perspective
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it's important to point out that here it's only been maybe a few hours since the hospital scene. And here, Jack finally has time to think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This it when he finally stops and thinks and realizes that he was wrong, that he didn't have any right to be mad at Save or Hope (or, well, he does, but how should also be able to understand their positions, because he's been there too), because they're all in the same situation in the end; and he realizes that Joke only did what he did for him. This is the moment when he finally has time to think and realize he was wrong (both about Save and about Joke), realize that he doesn't want to lose Joke, that he misses him.
Let's not forget that the start of Jack's character growth was to learn to forgive. And here, he shows that he's finally able to do this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He works together with Save and Hope, he trusts them. Why didn't he call Joke to join them then? Well, I think he probably wanted things to calm down first so that after that he would have the time to actually talk to Joke. He didn't have the time to do that in the end, and that's the tragic thing.
But we know that's what he planned to do, because that's exaclty what he says.
Tumblr media
Anyway, let's move on or this will become way too long lmao
It's not only in terms of learning to forgive that Jack grew. It's also in the way he finally decides to actively act to oppose Boss.
I mean, Jack was caught in Boss' web of power since he was young, and he's had to deal with the fact that he couldn't escape it, couldn't defeat it, for years. And so, he always submitted to Boss, in a way.
Yes, when he was a debt collector he went against him, in secret (and sacrificing himself and his own money), until Boss found out and Jack had to bow his head againt before him. When Gradma was in the hospital, he let himself in Boss' grasp again and even when Joke and Grandma slapped some sense into him his way to oppose Boss was to simply tell him he didn't want to marry Rose anymore, but was still willing to work for him; now, we know that that only worked because Joke had stolen the ring. What would have happened if Joke hadn't done that? Boss would have refused, of course, and Jack would have had bowed his head again.
Until now, Jack's actions were often passive, a result of him having no choice. Even when he played the ladder game against Lompran, that wasn't a real choice.
Not now, though. In this episode, Jack finally realizes that he can't keep doing it, that he needs to fight back for real. And this is the first time that Jack realizes that he can't always do the morally correct thing if he wants to defeat people like Boss.
Jack has always had really solid morals, and he's always lived by the fact that he needs to be better - better than the corrupted people in power who use them and look down on them. And that means he can't accept theft as a valid way to fix things, even if it would be justifiable and it would make things easier. But he can't do that, because that would mean that he's just as bad as them. Poor people are always expected to do the right thing.
Until now. Because now Jack has finally realized that he can't play it fair against people like them, he understood how that world works, and he realized that he needs to play following their game's rules.
Tumblr media
He's learned the power game's rules and he's ready to play.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's what he does. He's able to take advantage of Lompran's greed and use it for his own ends, and he's not afraid of risking his own or Save's life - because he knows at this point that they can't play it safe anymore.
He played the game but he also kept his morals, because he still didn't do it for himself; he played their game but he's still better than them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jack has mostly been a passive force until now, but in this episode he's finally the active force - he's the one with the plan, the one who takes the lead. (Joke, on the other had, has always been the active force of the show, and in this episode he's the passive one, but I'll make another post about this another day)
And I think this will be obvious in next episode too, when he'll (finally!) get a gun and do everything that's needed to save Joke and everyone else from Boss.
And he finally understood that the world isn't black and white and that sometime you need to do something "bad" to fight back, both for youself and for others. And that that doesn't mean you're a bad person.

I'm thinking about that post I saw recently that was about a guy who adopted a stray dog and had all these puppies he couldn't take care of and then OP's mom finally stepped in and helped get their adoptions sorted out and the point was that you can't just think "someone will take care of it" because you are also someone. It's been really cold here this week (freezing temperatures) and last night on my way home I saw a man lying on the sidewalk and everyone just... walked past him. Walked right past him. Most of them avoided looking at him. So I stopped and asked him if he was OK and it seemed like he was probably just really drunk and passing out but it was so cold he was going to be lucky to get away with hypothermia and frostbite and not actually freeze to death. (I also had no way of knowing whether he'd had a seizure or a cardiac episode etc. because he wasn't speaking clearly or coherently.) So I called an ambulance and as I was on the phone and waiting next to this man, people began to stop and try to help. At one point someone walked past and stopped to tell us they'd called an ambulance half an hour earlier. Once there were a few of us standing there and there was someone people could ask "what's going on?" from, one of the people who stopped to do so ran to the gym down the street and got a towel which we put under his head as a pillow as per the ambulance service's recommendation.
I waited as long as I could, laid my thick wide flannel scarf over him like a blanket for lack of anything better, and then left him with another person who had stopped (and was a social worker who had worked with people on the streets), went home which was around the corner, and came back with the spouse and a blanket. When we got back to the man's side there were three other people there also calling an ambulance because as it turned out, the social worker had entrusted someone else to stay with the passed out man when they had to go, and that person had entrusted one of the people now standing there, so in all that time someone had always been there with him. So now three people had called an ambulance, half an hour apart each, and the ETA was 1hr20min for an ambulance so we were expecting one to arrive soon. One of the people who was there lived in the building next to us so they ran upstairs to get more blankets and a hot water bottle. While they did, someone else showed up out of nowhere who had walked past a few minutes earlier and brought a blanket from home. When the ambulance finally showed up another person came running up and said they worked down the street and had called an ambulance TWO HOURS earlier and they were so glad it finally arrived.
And look, I could go off about the disaster the NHS currently is that it takes 2 hours for an ambulance to arrive for a case marked as high priority (which it was, as confirmed to me by the ambulance service). But my point here is this:
Two people had called for an ambulance in the hour before I did. That means this man was lying on the sidewalk for an hour in the freezing cold as most people kept walking past him, except for the few who called an ambulance and then left. And I don't expect anyone to be able to stay and wait for as long as it takes an ambulance to arrive when there's such a delay. But it's important that it was only when someone stopped and stood with him that others stopped too. Because like the OP of that other post said, most people don't realize they can be the someone who does something. But when they see another person be the someone, they feel more confident. It's reassuring knowing there's someone in charge who knows what to do and will tell you what to do and how to do it. And tbh I didn't know what to do. But I knew that emergency services would tell me. And I noticed immediately that as soon as I stood there with this man and became part of his situation, others started to do the same. Which is why I asked that social worker to stay with him and then pass the torch so someone was always with him.
And that's exactly my point: it's ok if you can't be the "someone" all by yourself but you can ask others to help too, and for them to do the same. By the time I came back with the spouse and the blanket, two more rounds of people had cycled through, but where most people walked past this man when I first saw him even though he'd been lying there for an hour, now there was a group of people around him even though its members kept changing - but because there was always someone there, someone else kept stopping and staying too. Where he was vulnerable and freezing when I first saw him, he now had almost half a dozen blankets over him and a hot water bottle. I honestly can't get over the thought that for a whole hour he was just lying there as he was, but as soon as people felt OK getting involved he was covered in multiple blankets.
Because most people need someone else to take the first step before they also do something. The person who brought down the hot water bottle asked me first whether or not they should. And for what it's worth, my answer was an enthusiastic "that's a great idea!" even though in my head I was thinking, "yeah no shit, how is that a question?" Because people are often uncertain or worry that their good intentions might backfire and they get wobbly in emergency situations or even just unfamiliar ones. And part of me wonders how much of the horrific online culture of dogpiling and assuming bad faith has conditioned people to worry, in real life situations, that their good intentions and attempts to help someone else will end up landing them in trouble. So even though in my head I was thinking that the question was crazy and this person should just DO the helpful thing, what came out of my mouth was encouragement and reassurance. Because that's what's actually helpful.
So this is just to say that after last night I've been thinking about that post about how anyone can be "someone" even you. Because it's not just about getting a job done - as soon as a person steps up to be the someone who does something about a situation, others follow much more easily. No one knew that at least two people had called an ambulance when this man had already been lying on the sidewalk for an hour in the freezing cold. But as soon as people got visibly involved, and stayed with him instead of walking away after calling the ambulance, more people did the same. As soon as one person covered him with a scarf and put a towel under his head, people started running to their homes around the corner to get him blankets. So the lesson of being "someone" is that it also helps other people be someone too.

I'm literally so excited about everything I'm writing right now and have planned for the next while.
Last chapter of A King is Not a Man will probably be posted tonight (last for this story but I have some one-shots for these two set in this story coming up too).
I'm halfway through the first chapter of the next project- a modern AU multichapter about Adar. The whole thing is outlined so it should go fairly fast.
Then the episode one shots (the first one is one of the one shots mentioned above) and a Celebrimbor x Galadriel multichapter (super interested if anyone will like this one).
I wish I had more time to work on all this every day but alas, I am an adult with a job and a tiny child.

She’s also going to try to track down a therapist who specializes in mood disorders, costs less $$$, and can see me sustainably long-term for talk therapy. I told her that I was having trouble processing what happened to me, probably a common sentiment in the aftermath of psychotic mania. She said I was lucky, that she sees a ton of bipolar patients, and that the fallout from mine was “nothing” (which was not to diminish the extremity of my experience, only to emphasize just how destructive the disease can be and often is). I had just enough insight, grit, and craftiness to recognize that my beliefs and perceptions were bizarre and required concealment from loved ones/employers. It was a blessing and a curse — on the one hand, very few people figured out that I was sick. On the other hand, very few people figured out that I was sick! What might have lasted three weeks dragged on for three months because the (reasonable, lmao) threat of involuntary commitment petrified me. I’d done the psychiatric ward once before in 2008 while waiting for a bed at Silver Hill to open up. Those 36 hours in a blank, padded room scarred me worse than anything I had ever done or had done to me under the influence. I was completely unprepared for the terror and humiliation that is the total revocation of one’s autonomy. The nurses were callous, and I felt like an animal. To call it dehumanizing is an understatement. As hostile as the environment in my head was becoming, I was convinced that the ER posed the more immediate danger and had to be avoided at any cost.
Somehow I succeeded. I was listening to a clinician on a podcast the other day, this guy who runs an outpatient facility for people with mood disorders, and he said that manic episodes inevitably end in one of three ways: death, jail, or hospitalization. HA HA! Not for me! Meep meep, bitch! Weaseled my way out of that one!!! (Ironically, it’s a permutation of the old AA/NA refrain I had heard so many times before: "We are people in the grip of a continuing and progressive illness whose ends are always the same: jails, institutions, and death." Dodged two bullets, apparently.) I have to laugh about it so I don't cry.
I'm sure it's annoying that I'm posting about this so much but having my whole life upended again at 36 was not on my bingo card. I had been so stable for so long, I was by all accounts a well-adjusted, normie-passing yuppie, and assumed the psychic turmoil of my youth was ancient history. It is a miracle that I was not seriously injured — for a while I was wandering city streets late at night, believing no harm could come to me — and that my career, finances, and marriage have survived intact. The statistics on bipolar illness are astonishingly grim. It’s like being in possession of a nuke inside your skull that can arm itself without warning and the codes to destroy your own life. You think of yourself as a sane person; you take for granted that the state of "sanity" is a robust and stable one, and that only the most extreme circumstances would push you over the edge. It is, and I do not use this term lightly, traumatizing to spend 12 consecutive weeks unmoored from reality and behaving in ways that are completely at odds with your personality. I am not a paranoid, angry person. I don’t hold grudges or presume the worst of others’ intentions. On the contrary! If anything, I am too trusting, too forgiving. I reflect on this past summer and don’t even recognize myself. The existential reckoning, the guilt and the shame, are overwhelming.
Last week I finished reading An Unquiet Mind and one of the things that struck me is how fortunate this woman was in three respects: the timing of when her manic depression struck (I.E., at intervals that still permitted her to finish college/her post-graduate studies), the uncommonly generous support of her family and colleagues (back when the stigma against mental illness was even worse than it is now), and probably most significant of all, access to superlative medical care (the UCLA psychiatric department) and responsiveness to lithium treatment. I benefit, thank god, from a situation with many of the same resources. She's led a fulfilling, successful, and ultimately long life. It felt good to read about a woman who played a "happy ending" out of the rotten hand she'd been dealt, whose experiences reflected so many of my own, and who seems to have retained her sharpness and verbal acuity well into old age. Cognitive decline is common as the illness progresses, and this is my greatest fear of all.
What's immediately, tragically evident in perusing the r/bipolar subreddit is just how many people find themselves in the exact opposite position. Insanity strikes at the worst possible moment; abandonment ensues from friends and employers, relatives and spouses; therapy and medication are lacking and insufficient, respectively. Financial and social ruin, and the resultant despair, are frequent outcomes. Dependency on SSDI and/or abusive and inescapable housing situations are documented left and right. The scope of the devastation is harrowing, and the guilt and humiliation that follows on its heels is a compounding cruelty. Knowing this, I am opting to feel lucky instead of unlucky. It has not been easy. It will not be easy. But I am as stubborn as they come, and I will figure shit out. "One day at a time," to borrow another 12-Step adage.
Dr. Ferrari referred me to a ketamine clinic and we're shooting for the week after Thanksgiving to commence infusions. She wants to space them out more than is typical, like every four days as opposed to every other day, to minimize the risk of triggering mania. But that's strictly precautionary and she thinks I'm an excellent candidate overall. Fingers crossed...

Alright, we're in episode 5, and Caitlyn is surveying the damage Warwick did to Stillwater, and both Ambessa's and her own forces.
Before we get to Singed, it's interesting that we see Ambessa with the injury from Warwick fully visible. It's the first time she's shown this kind of vulnerability to Caitlyn, I imagine. The fact that she doesn't have the answers either, and is showing it.
Furthermore, this shot really emphasises how Caitlyn looks like Silco. There's no way we're not meant to draw that conclusion here, which interestingly positions Ambessa as her Sevika in that look they share? It's a fun twist on that dynamic, because while Sevika has absolutely played Kingmaker for Zaun in a parallel to Ambessa establishing Caitlyn as the ruler of Piltover, but the differences in who actually holds the power in that dynamic makes this interesting in general, but this is the first time Ambessa actually feels like she's not the one in charge.
The fact that we get to see Caitlyn's detective-vision again is great, and combined with her monologue about 'Zaun's perversions' she's being a fantastic dictator here, and to build on my idea in the last post, I think this would've been the direction to go with her struggle for power against Ambessa.
Tie in the Silco parallels proper to make her a Piltover nationalist, looking for ways to lessen Ambessa's power by investigating the disappearances of Mel, Heimerdinger and Jayce. And where Ambessa's doing the 'brutal repressions of public protests' bit, have Caitlyn run a secret police crossing many a line during their investigation, have her do some things worth feeling guilty about come Act 3!
Hell, Heimerdinger was last seen in contact with Ekko, and Caitlyn knows more about the Firelights base than anyone else up in Piltover. Have her cross that line as her Enforcers grab Firelights in an attempt to figure out what Ambessa might be hiding ('Oh, Ekko also disappeared? How convenient.')
You tie together her Piltover nationalism, her bigoted attitude towards Zaun, her mistrust of Ambessa and her being an investigative type, and I think you can get her choice to turn on Ambessa to make sense without being itself a redemption (and also giving her things to do she needs redemption for.)
Given that Caitlyn's turn in episode 6 is the one I understand the least, I'm going to pay some additional attention to her scenes with Ambessa in this series of posts, to see if I can tease something out of this that I missed in my first viewing.
Starting with episode 4
For one, the image of Ambessa poking at a log in an attempt to get a little more out of a dying fire is a good image, but it does make me regret that we didn't get to see much of what Caitlyn's rule looked like when it was a roaring blaze.
Because the fire represents the efficacy of what Ambessa's trying to push in Caitlyn: her anger, her rage, her desire to get revenge. She frames this as Caitlyn's search for Jinx, because this is what she hopes to stoke in Caitlyn, but what makes this scene work is that it's also true of her own desire to have Mel back, even as she starts to displace some of this affection for her daughter onto Caitlyn herself.
Because Ambessa absolutely appreciates the fact that Caitlyn's willing to talk back, and able to use Ambessa's only rhetorical flourishes against her. It reminds her, in a way, of Mel, and just like Mel, this would-be daugher also talks about wanting peace without having to resort to violence.
Although Caitlyn's 'arrests require cause' bit is, again, odd, because you initiated martial law. You can blame Rictus for the fight all you like, but what situation do you think you're living under? There's a serious disconnect in how these two women see the oppressive regime they've initiated.
Then again, Ambessa understands war weariness and how to deal with it, so she coaxes a few more flames out of the dying embers, and off we go!

and like, despite the deliciously shippable couples it has, Twinkling Watermelon is not a romcom, it’s a fantasy coming-of-age. the theme is family, the main relationship is between Eun Gyeol and his father and while their respective romantic storylines are crucial, they’re not central.
which is nice, on the one hand, because it offers a slightly different (and beautiful) kind of story, but then because instead of being [main couple] > [second couple] it’s [son and dad] > [son’s gf and mom], it ends up letting down Eun Yoo and Cheong-ah a bit and leaving their resolutions a bit rushed / open ended (you know, like how in other shows you’ll see the second couple standing together at the main characters’ wedding but no actual, solid resolution).
so the final scene of the show is primarily a bonding moment and a resolution for Yichan and Eun Gyeol, and you don’t get much of Cheongchan and a very quick last-moment wrapping up of Euneun (and like. what happened to our girls in the years in between?? we need answers!)

Feel like I need to defend the people being upset about the non existent Agatha/Rio just a little bit and maybe that's because I'm also a lesbian who really likes them but I feel like the hate towards lesbians is a bit uncalled for or excessive like. Obviously homophobia or just full on blatantly hating on Billy as a character is shitty and I'm not defending that. But the way some people talk about this like "ugh can these annoying lesbians just shut up already?? How dare they be scared that this show might take a turn and take focus away from the sapphic couple?" Cause like that's what it is. Sapphic people are scared or upset about the possibility of the focus being taken off of Agatha and Rio and their relationship completely now that they have introduced a character that is important and will continue to appear in other Marvel media. Because good sapphic representation has been taken away too early or messed with a lot already. I think that if in the next episodes there are more Rio and Agatha scenes and important moments and just relationship stuff then most sapphic people who are complaining right now are gonna be totally okay with Billy's story. But right now we just can't know for certain.
Also I just have to say I see way more people hating on lesbians right now than I see lesbians being outright homophobic in the tag...
