I don’t ship feng xin and Mu Qing bc I think it’s just so much funnier if it’s genuinely platonic. Like imagine being that fundamentally intertwined with some guy you hate and weird intense emotion of it all isn’t even bc of sexual tension, one of you is just genuinely that bad at expressing that they want to have friends and the other is kind of dense.
Kind of like how Hua Cheng can devote his entire life to the person he loves romantically but gets real weird about friendship. Like he’s out here hyping up He Xuan and helping him in ways he would never help anyone else but Xie Lian, and actually even kind of siding with He xuan over Xie lian when it came to the revenge plot. But whenever he talks about it he gets so cagey. Like oh he just owes me money. And you keep helping him even though he doesn’t seem to be paying much of it back??? Ok. Sure.
So I think characters being weird about desiring friendships is just like a theme in this novel. (And I think Hua Cheng and Mu Qing are supposed to be parallels)
(Also, Mu Qing actually does kind of have to keep that chastity vow unlike Xie Lian. And breaking it would not represent the same things for him. For Xie Lian it’s freedom, it’s a release from this purity culture he got trapped in from a young age, he chose it and he doesn’t have to care what anyone thinks about it bc he has someone who always support and protect and love him. For Mu Qing it would probably represent the loss of autonomy and power he worked so hard to gain. Mu Qing didn’t just stumble into cultivation through means of birth the way XL did, he had to choose it and work very hard to keep choosing it. Giving any of his power away would not represent freedom for him, it would probably make him feel powerless to have to rely on other people like that. IDK I would have to reread tgcf to see if I’m fully right. I have no idea what I’m talking about I think.)

Caught up to anime chapters! Reading the manga really makes you enjoy every little thing more lol.
I thought the parallel between Rin and Shidou’s characters are pretty cool, like despite Rin not really caring about the abilities of the players around him, he still uses them in his play? While for Shidou, he’s (surprisingly so fucking likeable??) so excited whenever someone does something amazing, yet he never bothers coordinating with them. Idk if this goes anywhere in the future (cause anime only), like if their parallels and rivalry gets explored, but it seems like there would be more Sae/Shidou developments instead? I swear BL likes introducing cool parallels and ideas that are just a one-off thing…
Another thing I found cool about them was how much they really embodied being a striker? I didn’t feel hyped while watching the anime, but reading the chapter and seeing how their entire being just switch to “I need to score that goal” striker mode right after Hiori passed was really hype! It’s everything Ego had been trying to instill into the “lesser players” lol, that striker mentality, living for goals etc. No wonder they’re top 2. I didn't see the same hunger in the other top 6 duos! And of course there's Himsagi whose hype moment is universally felt and doesn't need further glazing :p

And then I also noticed some parallels between Isagi and Reo? Both of them are very analytical, but focus on different aspects of the game. Since one of Isagi’s main weapon is his spatial awareness, he focuses more on analyzing and finding the ideal positioning, predicting how the match will go, being at the right place at the right time, and then finally using all these information to adapt himself and score a goal. While for Reo, he's more focused on analyzing the techniques of the different players, which ones are suitable for the right play and situation, then adapting (copying) himself based on that to score goals. I wish he continues this scoring goals for himself striker mentality :)))
This style of thinking really does complement his king of all trades talent well and lets him develop his chameleon style. Actually quite impressed how Kaneshiro came up with this/linked it like this for him lol.
I’ve heard about the whole talented learners vs prodigy discussion (again, anime only so dk much) and obviously the Isagi/Rin and Reo/Nagi duos embody that dynamic. I do like this whole pushing each other to get better theme but I also have personal opinions that go against it (like are non-geniuses really able to catch up to actual geniuses?) but well knsr's the cook so we'll see where he takes it.
I actually got a little annoyed when Reo said “but it’s still not enough right? It’s not the soccer you’re after…” I didn’t like how he pushed all the responsibility on Nagi, like as if they’re improving themselves all for Nagi’s sake when it was Reo’s idea and ultimate goal to win the World Cup in the first place? I think it’s not just Reo, but the narrative too that likes placing blame on Nagi when it shouldn’t (like even if he’s the one who initiated their separation).
Anyway… I like seeing the panels of Reo staring at Nagi’s back and calling him his treasure, pretty symbolic of him trying to catch up to Nagi, and a pretty typical shonen trope lol. I mean, it's the same with Isagi/Rin and Narusasu my main OTP ship of all time lmao. So yea, if ReoNagi continues in this direction, it would be cool and I would like their dynamic more :)
But sadly, it doesn't seem like the case for them and that's why my feelings for them are "lukewarm". I'll just have to see where knsr takes them, hopefully it's towards what I like :p
Another personal opinion I might as well just say it lmao, I always prefer talented learners x geniuses dynamics. In that order. Something about how one of them being more "active" and "obsessed" with catching up to the other while the other coolly looks down at them from their perch like an ice queen is more appealing to me. And then we find out later the "geniuses" have always been looking towards and admiring the qualities of the "talented learners" but they're just more quiet about it lol. But sadly, 90% of all the fandoms I was ever in never ever share my vision... With BL, It's all Rinsagi and Nagireo, just like how it was 90% sasunaru over narusasu back in the days...
The thing is I don't even seriously ship any BL ships but I was hoping the fandom can convince me otherwise (because shipping is fun), but seeing all the preferred dynamics I'm noping the f out lol.
Unless.... 👀
Narusasu did seem to have caught up and things are more even now, so I shall have faith that it'll happen with the BL fandom too! In for the long haul/game.
Also, can’t we see geniuses x geniuses match ups?? I’m sure they can push each other too if Kaneshiro wants to write it in that direction?? I want more Rin/Nagi!! Even their manga covers look suspiciously similar to each other’s but different from the rest. Especially Nagi's! And I want more anyone/Nagi I hope EpiNagi delivers in that aspect, I haven't touched it yet besides the movie.

Let’s Talk Calm-ly about Two Loves
OR: When you’re a grown man who writes stories for a living, you definitely wrote your own weird bedtime story, too.
The TLDR here is that H has taken one specific listener around the globe, notably to Tokyo and Jamaica. He quotes an old Victorian Poet who was an awful human but who’s lasting legacy is the phrase “a love that dare not speak its name” which is - you guessed it - a reference to queer love. He also is super excited to spend what seems like the foreseeable future with this listener and has bought a little house with a garden of daisies with them and it’s very sweet and domestic. Anyways this is a wild time and it’s all under a cut because it’s...really a lot.
Anyways I think the people I owe thank yous this times around to are @queenlokibeth who had to listen to me scream about this for a while, Astrid, who screamed with me when this came out, and “M” who convinced me to finally get to work in this fandom. And, of course, all of the lovely people tagged below who’s work I used to build my argument.
1.) Who Wrote “Dream With Me”?
Well, not H, or so the story goes. Two other people (Steve Cleverly and Sanj Sen) did! I mean, right, okay, for a while I was like...that seems like an odd choice for a man who didn’t want to hand Two Ghosts over to his own band because it seemed too personal. He wrote on every song in both albums’ he’s released thus far, because he seems to be passionate about telling the stories he wants to tell (even if he won’t tell you explicitly what they’re about). But for a while, I was totally going with the flow there, and the rest of this analysis would still stand: the writer of this story definitely referenced a poem by Lord Alfred Douglas and Harry’s own songs.
However, I then read this fun quote from the Co-founder and CEO of Calm:
“Well,” he said, “The the Harry Styles one is interesting because that came purely from Harry Styles himself...we took the approach of creating a sort of musical epic poem – he doesn’t sing, it’s spoken with poetry, but there’s a sort of musical sound bed to it and it’s pulling on things and themes that Harry’s fans really adore about him and associate with him. So his story was driven really by him – we really created a concept around him.”

And I thought, hmmm. This does not sound like a project that he was not involved in creating. From this point on (July, 7th 2020), I began to think of it as a three way co-collaboration between him and the other two authors. But this confused me a bit, because there was largely a nonreaction from the fandom. I was waiting for an actual transcript, because I always fall asleep to these meditation stories, but it was being referenced to as some sort of Y/N fic, which was...honestly not what I expected, but also not implausible, thanks to the ~lovely~ image this man has had since the age of sixteen. But also, twitter seemed to be concerned by other things at the moment, and no one was analyzing the story. .
In fact, I messaged a friend the day that this story dropped, because it had been kind of a shit show day on Twitter. Rumors were sort of flying about everyone and everything: had Liam shaved his head? Was he engaged? Had he and Maya broken up? Were Zayn and Gigi engaged? Had they broken up? Did Niall have a girlfriend? (this one was true lol). Were Elounor engaged? Were they pregnant? Had they broken up??? My personal fav was the bald Liam rumor, which he promptly put to rest in LP Act 1 by...having a huge mane of hair.
So then I thought - huh. Why has today looked like this? I’m not saying that there aren’t days that twitter goes wild because of boredom, because there definitely is - the articles about secret meetings in Italy that are coming out this week (8/12/2020) are proof positive. So that definitely does happen, but it doesn’t usually happen on the days that there’s a lot of content. And maybe I’ve just been starved for content in this fandom, but I would consider a 40 minute video quite a bit of content.
Then the transcript dropped. I’m using two as references - this one on Wattpad and also @carl-and-pearl ‘s version here (thank you so much for the transcript!!). We’re going to get into a more detailed description of what’s going on in the story, but the first thing I recognized immediately is that it was first person POV. I knew that going in, based on the number of Y/N jokes going around on twitter. Then I read it aloud, and I realized that it read like a letter. Like an experience specific to the writer and the reader. And while that’s not super uncommon to write about an experience from the author’s POV - I listen to a podcast called Nothing Much Happens: bedtime stories for adults which has a similar concept - I thought it was odd that they were trying to include both the author and the listener. I completely understood why the y/n jokes were pertinent. But at the same time, it felt like something had snagged in my mind - like a particularly annoying splinter.
The conversations I was having around this story - completely based on the content, concept, and my own instinct - was that this story contained specific references to one person. I thought that it did read like a love letter, and that most identifying features would have been taken out, but the essence remained. Which, once I thought about it, was something that H excelled at doing. Think about Sunflower Vol 6 and Adore You and Canyon Moon and even Watermelon Sugar and Golden. Ask yourself, What do I know about the person they are about? They have skin that browns, they have a secret, they have mesmerizing eyes, they’re willing to dance in the kitchen with him (to dancehall), they have a belly, they’ve been through hard times, they’re witty, they have an accent, and they have lips. I know - super specific right?
So the splinter grew into a thorn - what was I missing? And then - when I was looking for something completely different - I stumbled upon this old interview Harry did with Zach Sang and the Gang Show back in 2017. For context, he was being asked about Sweet Creature. As you can imagine, it’s hard for people to believe he wrote such a beautiful love song when he hadn’t ever really had a long term relationship (two hearts in one home?? Who did you move in with, you can imagine them asking. When did you have time?). So what did he have to say about this?
"In my opinion,” he explained, “I think most songs are written for one listener. Maybe there's one thing in there that only they'll notice about them.... It's so much easier to say something in a song than it is to say it to someone and I think it's really amazing to be able to communicate through that and be able to wrap up everything that you want to say in three and a half minutes and say it in a song."

By this time, please believe that I was screeching. Seeing this felt like he put into words the exact feeling I had about “Dream With Me”. It felt like a nod to someone that I didn’t know, which made the story hard to listen to, tbh. Although, I will say that when I did finally listen to it, it knocked me out and gave me odd dreams so. Once was enough for me haha!
So my new operating theory is exactly what Advansun said: I think that H was the primary writer/the driving force behind the story. Because of the references I’m about to run through, because it feels like the way he tells stories, and because they admitted to him being more involved than they originally claimed. That’s going to be how I write the rest of the analysis - under the impression that H had a direct hand in the story that was being put forth. However, I think that the analysis itself would stand whether or not he wrote any of it. It would just be a more tenuous reflection of him than I believe it to be.
2.) How Do I Love Thee? In Two Ways.
Before I jump into the story, let’s talk a little about the poem that I want to compare it to: Two Loves, by Lord Alfred Douglas. Let’s be clear this is not at all a defense of who Bosie was - he was a terrible person, particularly in his later years, when he’d converted to Catholicism and turned his back on his younger self, and his partner, Oscar Wilde. He was violently anti-Semitic, and turned his back on his own community. I want to get this out of the way because I very much believe that we should examine artists for who they are. That is, after all, what I am trying to do here.
But his poem Two Loves has often been used - much to his disappointment, I’m sure - as an exploration of queer love in Victorian times. A line that I will be exploring more deeply in a second was in fact used against Oscar Wilde in his trail for indecency . He attempted - unsuccessfully - to explain it away, but it was too blatantly about their relationship for even the British Victorian society to ignore. I really, really recommend a read of this poem, because it is - despite it’s author - a good piece of work, which explores the themes of shame and love and longing between two men in that time.
I’m going to start with my own background, as someone who’s analyzed fandoms before. I first came across this poem in the Sherlock fandom, with this analysis by @the-7-percent-solution, when I was running in that fandom, and she explains the poem brilliantly in just a few lines. I’m going to take a little longer to run through it, but if you want a concise explanation and a brilliant meta, I encourage you to run to their blog and check it out. That fandom taught me most everything I know about catching symbols and recurring themes and “clueing for looks” and I love it desperately, still.
But we’re here to talk about this fandom, so on with the poem! Essentially, the poem outlines a dream the speaker had: In his dream, he’s standing in a field with flowers - beautiful ones of all kind - and he meets this young man with clear blue eyes and bright red lips and they kiss a bit and have a picnic, and it’s all lovely. If you think I’m kidding, I’m really not. Please, read it for yourself.
Anyways, after they did they did the whole picnic thing, the speaker and his date go on a walk in this field, where they come across two figures. The first is described as,
“...fair and blooming, and a sweet refrain Came from his lips; he sang of pretty maids And joyous love of comely girl and boy, His eyes were bright, and 'mid the dancing blades Of golden grass his feet did trip for joy; And in his hand he held an ivory lute With strings of gold that were as maidens' hair, And sang with voice as tuneful as a flute, And round his neck three chains of roses were.”

The speaker, however, was drawn to the second figure:
“He was full sad and sweet, and his large eyes Were strange with wondrous brightness, staring wide With gazing; and he sighed with many sighs That moved me, and his cheeks were wan and white Like pallid lilies, and his lips were red Like poppies, and his hands he clenched tight, And yet again unclenched, and his head Was wreathed with moon-flowers pale as lips of death. A purple robe he wore, o'erwrought in gold With the device of a great snake, whose breath Was fiery flame..”

Of course, the speaker immediately asks the second man who he is. The second man says, “My name is Love”. The first man corrects him quickly:
“ He lieth, for his name is Shame, But I am Love, and I was wont to be Alone in this fair garden, till he came Unasked by night; I am true Love, I fill The hearts of boy and girl with mutual flame.”

The second man sighs and acquiesces, “Have thy will. I am the love that dare not speak its name.”
It was, of course, this last line that really gave the meaning of the poem away. It was the line that was put to Oscar Wilde as proof of a romantic relationship, it was the line that went down in history as a way to refer to queer love, and it was the line that first stuck out to me when I was reading “Dream With Me”.
The reading here is clearly that “Love” is the love that is acceptable to society - easy, sweet, and cherished. “Shame” is the love that happens in secret - beautiful, alluring to the speaker, passionate, anxious ( as can be seen in the clenching and unclenching of his hands), and proud. He refuses to call himself as anything but what he is. The first man may call him Shame, but he refuses the name, and instead, offers a qualifier to his own descriptor. He is still love, he is just the love that can’t be spoken about.
3.) Walking in Golden Fields of Sunflowers
Now let’s talk about “Dream With Me”. I’m ignoring the first few stanzas (from the line “Have you ever wondered” to “What the two of us can find”.) because those are pretty standard introductory paragraphs to a guided meditation. So we start with the line “Let’s travel now to moonlit valleys...”.
I’m going to do the same thing I did with “Two Loves” first. I am going to describe literally, in general terms, what happens in the story. Warning, I change pronouns from “they” to “you” because the whole thing confuses me, but note that I’m always talking about the speaker and the listener:
So after doing the standard intro, the speaker and the listener take a walk through the woods enjoying nature, particularly the grass, the trees, and the blue sky above. You’re already clearly in love. Then you’re magically on a raft, with cherry blossoms all around you. If you want a good visual for that, here’s a site that has pictures from a boat rental in Tokyo where you can snuggle on a raft in the Chidorigafuchi moat. And then suddenly it starts raining, and they (you) watch the rain for a hot second, and then the scene magically shifts again, and you’re under a porch (although I guess it could be the boat rental’s porch. They do usually have covered areas).
Kind of furthering that theory, they then lounge by the shoreline, skipping stones and hanging out, looking at the snow capped mountains. In case you’re curious, because at this point I sure was, you can see mountains from certain areas in the city of Tokyo.
Anyways, then it’s snowing, and you’re magically in a cabin, just chilling by the fire, and you fall asleep again. You wake up somewhere else.
Where are you now? Well, you’re on a tropical island filled with palm trees. As an American, my mind immediately jumps to the Caribbean, but I suppose it could absolutely be in the Mediterranean as well. The island has white beaches, mangroves, a turquoise ocean, and a gorgeous, peaceful atmosphere.
If you’re curious as to what a mangrove looks like - and I certainly was - they are a group of trees and shrubs that live in the coastal intertidal zone and Jamaica is doing a massive restoration project involving primary school children to regrow this vital part of their ecosystem. More interestingly, there currently exist no mangrove forests in the Mediterranean, so my initial feeling that this scene would take place in the Caribbean was correct. On that note - again, because I was curious - Jamaica has gorgeous white sand beaches with turquoise oceans.
But I’ve gone off topic again! After you’re minds are “in tune” once more (trying to find a heartbeat, anyone?), you reappear in a meadow, with beautiful flowers of all kind, where you are now walking hand in hand through a field of sunflowers, which give the feeling a “warm and golden hue”. Then you come across a little farmhouse with daisies poking out (clearly I have no way of locating this anywhere in the world, but I assume that the UK has both sunflowers and daisies). It’s an empty house which was loved and left because of the passage of time, which inspires my favorite line in the poem: “ The thought of passing time inspires/A feeling that grows stronger”. It’s just...really sweet to me.
So, of course, they do what anyone would do when they come across an empty farmhouse, they go inside. And there, they begin to fall asleep, reflecting on all they have just seen, referencing other scenes of the poem: “ Moonlit valleys, Burdened forests, Gazing at the ocean. Summer meadows, Tranquil sunsets steeped in emotion”.
The next few stanzas are just going to be copy-pasted, and then I’ll go into them a bit, but this is the end of the poem, so they’re the final reflections;
“The tenderness we feel When we are close Two minds as one Surrounds us and connects us But we’ve only just begun.
For now we dream together Of all there is to follow. And know that sleep will keep us safe From now until tomorrow.
Maybe all the memories That we’ve gathered here tonight Are all dreams now remembered Or wishes in plain sight.
No matter what They’re with us now. For this night and forever. And every time we close our eyes They’re yours and mine to treasure.”

And that’s it! The literal story, in short, is that you started in a forest, then went to Tokyo (maybe) and then Jamaica (perhaps) and then back to a field of sunflowers and daisies in the UK (which is also a guess, it could be Italy or France or Idaho for all I know, but let’s call it an educated guess).
4.) My Dream Journal
So now that we know what happens in the story, how do we interpret this? Well, There are a few lines in the poem that I want to draw your attention to: the first takes place in the first part of this story, when you’re still in the forest. This is, I must say, the most direct reference to Two Loves in the whole poem/song/story. Both works are describing a walk in the woods with your loved one, and, in a fun reference in the middle of the story, Dream With Me says
The shimmering reflection Shows us smiling from above. But what we think But dare not speak is L-O-V-E love.

Remember that line I mentioned before? I am the love that dare not speak its name. Right, so that’s almost a direct quote. It also has a really fun nod to “I Would” (Would he say he’s in L-O-V-E?/Well if it was me then I would), but I digress.
This first part of the narrative, I feel, really sets up what the rest of it will look and feel like, in the same way that “Golden” sets the tone for Fine Line. (You didn’t think I was going to make a post about Harry and NOT mention Golden, did you?? If you did, I’m disappointed!!). So let’s take a look at what’s happening, and the language he’s using to describe it.
One of the best things about this poem is how vivid it feels. Of course, I’m about to argue that it’s vivid because it was based in reality, but let’s talk about the sheer amount of detail he uses to describe the place he’s walking through. The valley (canyon lmao) is moonlit, the grass and the leaves make mosaics of green, you’re walking by the heather (the symbolism of heather is good luck, admiration, and protection), the sepia sunlight breaks through the trees.
You know what it kind of sounds like? Sweet Creature. You’re about to roll your eyes at me! I can feel it! But listen, okay?
“Sweet creature Running through the garden Oh, where nothing bothered us But we're still young I always think about you and how we don't speak enough”
Which, to be honest, sounds like what they’re doing. They’re walking through the garden in the sun, not daring to speak about the Love that he (they both) feel, and instead refering to it in veiled Victorian terms.
And then we head to Tokyo! I know that you’re about to ask me why I think it’s Tokyo versus...idk, anywhere else? Well, for one, he went to Tokyo (to let it go) publicly in 2019. He was there for a few months, and there are some great pictures of that time:
Look! Here he is with his club owner friend and his dog, and a fun red bandanna! But let’s be honest, the dog really steals the show here. But wait! there’s more! More dog content, too!
This was on Jan 31st, 2019, and he’s taking the dog for a walk! Very cute! If nothing else, he spent a lot of time with dogs in Tokyo! And the city fits the description of the story. So I feel rather comfortable with my interpretation that this first date is a memory of this trip - or another - to Tokyo.
So what did “you both”do in Tokyo? Well, chill on a raft while the cherry blossoms flutter around you, clearly. You also refocused your purpose. What did he do in Tokyo in 2019? Well, he took time to think about and write songs for the album he was about to go record. Kind of like refocusing on what’s next, right? And then, in the story when “you both” had time to think amongst the lake and the water and the rain and the moon, and you’d come to the conclusions you needed to, you left. What did he do when he did the things he needed to? Well, he left, too.
And where did he go? Well, in real life, I suppose he went to do his job. But, in the story, you’re meant to be falling deeper and deeper into sleep, so it’s sort of like traveling backwards, you see? Like counting down to one. So you end up on this island with turquoise ocean and mangrove forests. I’m calling this Jamaica. Why? Well, the description fits, for one, down to the four types of mangroves that exists within its ecosystem.
And - probably the biggest reason - I can place him there, too. Here’s him in 2017:
I added this picture because the water around him....looks rather turquoise, doesn’t it? Kind of like he’s enjoying his time on a tropical island by the beach?? Oh, and here’s another one!:
The red bandanna makes a comeback!
So what are you doing in Jamaica, according to the story? Well, you’re hanging out, basically. Enjoying the beach and each other, of course! What else? To be exact, “[Your] thoughts dovetail and unify/ In tune two minds together”. I’m so glad that you’re tuned like an old guitar now! Congrats! Really happy for you!
What was he doing in Jamaica three years ago? Why, he was recording his first album, or so the story goes. I’ll tell you something: finding press for that album was literally the most difficult part of this whole analysis. I got a fair bit of the tattoo roulette with Kendall Jenner, and some things about Carolina, but the interview with Zach Sang took me like an hour and a half to find again to link. The fact that a lot of it has been buried is...not great, for posterity purposes. He’s going to want that one day.
But I’ve gotten off track again! We gotta go back and finish our story, right? What happens now? Well, this does:

Anyways! Where do you walk out to? A golden field full of sunflowers. You walk for a minute, then come across an old house with daisies popping up out of the garden. And that’s where the story ends. I guess you’ve made that farmhouse feel like home.
Now to the little reflection he does on the outro. The lines I want to bring your attention are: “The tenderness we feel when we are close two minds as one surrounds us and connects us but we’ve only just begun” and “Maybe all the memories that we’ve gathered here tonight are all dreams now remembered or wishes in plain sight.”
Let’s talk about the first sentence first. In the context of finding a home that could be a shared home, and a future, this is very much an “end of the story, beginning of our lives” sort of thing. You’re back from all over, and it’s time to settle down, and see what’s next.
And now the second sentence. I think this is the one that really drives my point about this story being a collection of memories he has - that’s what he calls it. The story is “gathered memories” that might also be called “remembered dreams” (think of how people say of vacations, “oh it was a dream!”) or you might call it “wishes in plain sight”. This feels in line with the rest of the story. In this stanza, he’s sort of letting you in a bit. If I’ve read this right - and I really think that I have - he’s giving the larger context for the story. It’s a collection of memories he’s had with someone he loves.
5.) Cool! Can you prove it?
I mean, I’d argue that if you read this far, I have proved it, but let’s make some more links, shall we? This was called a “muscial epic” that was “driven by him”. I’d argue that if I know my Victorian literature (thank you, Sherlock!), then he definitely does. Then there’s the fact that he quoted it, so. That did happen. And he knows what it means. And even if he didn’t, there were two other people on the story. Someone was more than capable of catching that one, and the fact that they didn’t speaks to intent. They want you to think of that phrase when you read this poem. They want you to think of that walk in the woods while you’re going on this one.
And, as for my assumption that this is for and about one person, well. Think about it. He said that he writes his songs for a single listener. I’m not saying it’s the same listener each time, let’s get that right, but it is always just for one person. With that, and with the assumption that he’s been involved in the writing of this story, I’d say that the same rule applies. He went with someone to Japan and Jamaica (J^2 haha). And, if I had to guess, it was the same person.
Why, you ask? Well, for one, if that weren’t the case, then this poem would no longer be for one listener, it would be for multiple. And, for another, imagine how awkward it would be to listen to it with his current partner and have to explain “oh, yeah that was the super romantic vacation I took with someone else” . And, I suppose that because I think that attitude of “refocusing” and “dovetailing” and “tuning” and getting excited about imagining all of the tomorrows with your partner speaks to a long term relationship breathing easily, you know?
I’m also going to argue that describing the aura around the house as “golden” was intentional, especially when paired with the location - in the middle of a field of sunflowers. Those are both direct references to his songs. And those two songs are particularly linked by the number 28. The third song that features 28 is Fine Line the song, but that’s a different story. Anywho! “Golden”’s bridge just repeats the word ‘golden’ twenty eight times (if you go here , you can count the bridge) and “Sunflower Vol. 6″ ends the song with 28 “boops” (believe me, I wish I was making this up. I’m not.). So then, once again, you’ve linked a story to two already linked songs.
And, even if you don’t buy the intentional repetition, they’re linked another way, aren’t they? The color scheme and the sun symbol. Sunflowers were named because of their sun-like appearance. They turn to face it. They symbolize loyalty and adoration. And then, of course, the sun is - say it with me - golden. And it - like the person in golden - waits in the sky, beautiful and dangerous and constant. And here that symbol is, in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. At home.
This whole story feels like you’re taking the time to find that heartbeat that you think you might have lost, and sort of coming back to a space where you understand that this is what you want, now and forever. It feels like finding a home that could be yours forever, and it feels like walking through some of the moments that remind him of that.
It really is rather lovely, if you think about it, especially since he has a tendency to attribute “home” to people rather than place, in his songs. So it’s like. Going all around the world and always being at home.

Do you have thoughts on the Aang/Ozai showdown at the end?
Zuko: please. The real hero is a random rock the Avatar.
The final battle was amazing, from an animation poin of view. The colors, the fighting sequence, the symbolism, Aang finally mastering all elements. Just very exciting and satisfying to watch, because it was something that the audience was hoping for since episode one. And they delivered it.
From a writing point of view, though? It was less of a showdown and more of a cop-out. See, I'm not saying, by any means, that Aang should have killed Ozai. Quite the opposite. Not only because it was a children's show. Not only because Aang was a traumatized, non violent, 12 years old. But also because it made sense for the character and for the core themes of the show.
Don't get me wrong, Ozai one hundred per cent deserved to die. Aang himself stated that the world would be a better place without Ozai in it. I just don't think he should be the one to do it. At the same time, is on his hands that Ozai's fate lays and no one else can make that decision for him.
So if killing Ozai off could turn him into a Fire Nation martyr anyway and Aang refuses to do so because of his pacifist principles, what's the other option to defeat the guy and end the war? The authors went with energy bending and, honestly, I thought it was brilliant for a series of reasons.
First, ending Ozai's life seems like the obvious choice, an easy way out. I love the concept of Aang refusing to do what's expected of him and choosing instead to finish the war on his own terms, without compromising who he is, because in theory, that would mean he would have to go out of his way to find a different solution, in a perfect shout out to Bumi's words in The King Of Omashu: "you must master the four elements and confront the Fire Lord. And when you do, I hope you will think like a mad genius."
Second, in a show where bending is intimately related to one's very being, the questions begs to be raised: how much taking someone's bending away is better, more ethical or less cruel than actively killing them? Because it's a fundamental part of who they are, of their soul. Ty Lee had the abiliity to block chis, temporarily making people unable to bend. And it was a terrifying thing for the people she used the technique on.
Lastly, it ends the "killing Ozai would turn him into a Fire Nation martyr" for good, because (ATLA COMICS SPOILER ALERT) Aang let him leave without his bending and a significant amount of people still worshipped the guy to the point of planning coups on the down low and sending Zuko death threats left and right, so we basically got the same result, but Ozai remained an ever present threat to the peace Aang fought to achieve.
The problem, as people smarter and more eloquent than I have pointed out countless times, wasn't the energy bending solution, it was the way it was introduced and then executed.
Aang: hey! Look at these weird Lion Turtle things.
Looking back now, this scene from The Library was obviously foreshadowing the finale, so the Lion Turtle reveal wasn't pulled out of thin air. It had a purpose. Considering that this episode, from Book Two, mentioned the Lion Turtle, who would later teach Aang how to energy bend and that The Guru, also from Book Two, introduced the arc of Aang having to let go of his attachment to Katara in order to master the Avatar State, I can only assume that the original intentions of the writers were very clear:
Aang doesn't want to kill Ozai but he also doesn't want to let go of Katara. That's the catch! To "energy bend" his way out of murder, he has to master the Avatar State. His conflict here, is much greater than before because now Katara is a factor in the equation as well. He either kills Ozai, keeps his attachment and gives up the Avatar State or he masters it, defeats Ozai by removing his bending but has to let go of Katara in the process. It's awesome because it's the hardest possible choice a character like Aang could be forced to make. And we knew he would ultimately do the right thing, but regardless of what he decides, he still loses something important to him, he still has to make a huge sacrifice.
Of course, none of that happens. This was the first and only time the Lion Turtle was brought up. The “letting Katara go” arc was unceremoniously killed alongside Aang the second Azula shot that lightning in Ba Sing Se, but differently from the Avatar, whom Katara ressurrected, it was never brought back. And it’s a shame. Because The Library was the perfect episode to expand on the Lion Turtle and energy bending mystery.
And the finale? It was the perfect episode for Aang to do what he failed to do in Ba Sing Se: to let Katara go and achieve the Avatar State by his own merits, sacrificing something he wanted for the greater good. The way he hid into a cocoon of rocks? It would have been a great call out to the little crystal tent he made in his fight with Azula when he decided to give the Guru’s advices a try. And it would also symbolize rebirth in the same way Katara breaking him out of the iceberg did. Because now he had finally reached the other side of the river and he is no longer the same person he once was.
But the narrative decided, instead, to rob Aang from any growth, from any substancial change, from any interesting arc. They went with the “love is the most important thing” approach to justify him honlding on to Katara. And I could have bought it if they hadn’t been so dishonest about it.
First: if you love someone, you let them go. Attachment and love are two very different things. No one ever told Aang to stop loving Katara. He was told to let her go. And it makes sense because he was attached to her in a way that wasn’t healthy for either of them, and was keeping him from achieving his full spiritual potential, something he should care a little more about, given his upbring.
Second, in the person of Iroh, arguably the wisest character in the show, Aang is told that he is right for choosing love over power. But this is a false equivalence because it’s not what Aang is doing. The scene makes it look like he is seeking power for the sake of power. That’s not the case. The Avatar State is an inherent power, meaning Aang already has it. It’s part of who he is. He just needs to unblock it and learn how to control it. And he has to do that not for personal gain, but to put an end in the war.
A war that took almost everything from Katara, the person he loves. Aside from Aang himself, she is the person who would benefit the most from him learning to control the Avatar State, since she is the one who has to calm him down every time he accidentaly triggers it and winning the war is a very personal goal of her. Now, this is just conjecture but I firmly believe that even if Katara was secretly in love with Aang (which I don’t buy), she would be the first to tell his it’s okay to let her go. But alas, she wasn’t even aware of this conflict. A conflict she played a key part in.
That being said, I do think that the Ozai dillema was introduced too late. It should have been explored before the Day of Black Sun, giving Aang plenty of time to search for a different solution. It also never made sense to me why killing Ozai wasn’t a problem then. Apparently the explanation that I was supposed to stick with is that Aang was naive. He didn’t know people expected him to kill the Fire Lord until Zuko asked him what he would do when he faced Ozai, since violence wasn’t the answer. But I honestly struggle to accept this because, yes, Aang was naive.
But not that naive. Not at that point. After episodes like The Siege of the North and The Avatar State, I just don’t buy he didn’t know what people wanted him to do. Plus, Aang has an evasive fighting style, based on always being one step ahead of his opponent. To do that, he has to plan beforehand. What was his plan to confront Ozai in the Day of Black Sun, after everything he went through? Talk to him? Arrest the guy? If that’s the case, shouldn’t it at least be discussed with the gang? It’s never addressed.
Then comes the finale. Aang’s moment of truth. The event we’ve all been hoping for. The one that will turn him into a legend. And Aang is losing. He can’t win without killing Ozai or controling the Avatar State to take his bending away. What will he sacrifice to become a hero? His morals or his attachment? Answer: neither! Because the writers decided he should have everything without give up nothing. So they miraculously make a convenently sharped rock hit the exact right spot in the perfect time unblock his chakra, allowing him to enter the Avatar State.
I’m not even gonna talk about how this is most definitely not how chakras work, because it’s not really my place. But I am gonna talk about the tragic (not to say hilarious) fact that, by trying to make Aang have his cake and eat it too, the writers ultimately made a fucking rock the responsible for Aang’s success. Not his cleverness, not his hard work, not his altruism: a rock. If that rock wasn’t there, in the right place, at the right time, then what? Would Aang finally have done what he had to do, or would he be killed, allowing the war to continue?
That’s my issue with it. That, and the fact that they had no trouble addressing delicate topics, but didn’t have enough courage to let the 12 years old protagonist end up alone. Because, of course, children can’t understand the hero not getting the girl. Right?
RIGHT?
Aang managed to defeat Ozai and get the girl even though there was a whole season dedicated to build up an arc in which he would have to let her go to succed. Even though their last one on one interaction before their last kiss was Aang screaming at her and storming off, while Katara reprimended him for walking away from the issue. Even if he had been acting more and more possessive and entitled when it came to her affection. Even if Katara had shown no real interest in him that way before she suddenly does. But what do I know? Maybe she was hit by a magic rock too.
Aang and Katara happened at the cost of Aang’s character development. Fandom might think the rival ship was harmed the most by it, but that’s not true. Aang was. And it’s really sad. He is an amazing character and he deserved to be the hero of his own story, to have his beliefs tested and to come out of his journey irrevocably changed, not locked inside a plot armor.

That is so true, we read Yozo’s life and deeds completely through his own eyes therefore we can’t treat it as an objective narrative. When this is combined with all the analyses you made yesterday, it’s all coming together and this is the best feeling ever, when I first read your response I went crazy with euphoria😭
And exactly! We can definitely distinguish these two narratives -Yozo’s and the woman’s- in the last scene under the sunset. Dazai, for some reason, always denies his good intentions and is “blinded to his better side” as you said and I totally adore this way of putting it. I really hope Atsushi will be able to bring him back to reality😔
I mean, of course he’s not the most snow white person out there, he still has really gray morals, but isn’t this already an incredible step considering that he was born in pitch black? He needs to see how much he’s achieved since then, but he still feels guilty and this totally blocks the good parts of his journey in his mind, which is probably why he always has that façade to keep him from breaking down. Just like how Yozo had this façade of “clowning” even though he was feeling empty inside all while entertaining people and seeming so cheerful. This clowning thing was a really beautiful parallelism between BSD Dazai and Yozo.
Exactly😭 For someone as traumatised as Atsushi, that poor cinnamon roll is really so precious with his amount of trust and kindness🥺 And yeah… There’s no way I would be able to 100% restore my trust for him -if I had it in the first place, of course, you never know with Dazai😂-, I would question constantly if he’s planning new things with several villains “for the sake of the city”, and this is just what Atsushi says, he denies this as well like what- then why😭 He owes a really good explanation to the ADA, tbh. I hope they treat this subject in S3 or I’ll get really mad if he just gets away with it as if people didn’t die because of his shenanigans😤

Exactly, I honestly used to miss all these about Akutagawa and just overlook him, consider him as a mere invincible rabid dog with an unhealthy obsession, whose ability is just to murder. But that’s not true at all, he’s more than his ability. To be honest, I think this movie made this sentence valid for everyone, especially if the ability is too strong, one always tends to consider them as their ability and nothing else, but that’s not true, their abilities are a part of them but they don’t assure their existence. Each one of them is more than their ability and I loved seeing that, I even felt sad when Aku regained his Rashōmon😭

And yes exactly! We have to make note that the novel is written in an I-novel narrative, and like all first person perspectives, they are unreliable. And "crazy with euphoria", that makes me so happy to hear😭💕
But yes, we can clearly see the distinct difference between how Yozo sees himself, vs how the woman sees him. (Side note: And one of the reasons why I love this book despite its dark themes and narratives, is that it talks about the goodness of humanity that still exists in even the worst people. Dazai-sensei's narration of Yozo is written in a way that almost makes us hate him. But we have to always be reminded that despite this, there are goodness, even in people like Yozo, which I felt is an amazing reminder) And his own blindness to his better side is obviously self-destructive, as seen in the novel, and I believe that if Dazai continues to see this way, he will not be able to heal despite following what Oda wants him to do. No, he first has to face his past, and as you said he has to recognize how far he has come, even though he is still learning, he is still changing. Like all other characters in Dead Apple, Dazai is also facing his past, or more so an introduction to having to face his past, as I believe that Atsushi had also said that he hopes that Dazai can put his past behind him or something similar to that. And I personally feel that Dazai would have a happy ending because unlike in the novel, he has someone (Atsushi) to remind him of his goodness, the fact that he can go beyond what he is in the past. I just love Dead Apple so much😭
And the clowning part breaks my heart too... In addition to being a facade to stop others from seeing how empty he is inside, which would deviate himself from being "human". It gives me a saddening understanding that Dazai is keeping everyone at a distance. Although he wants others to understand him, and his whole existence is basically a cry for help, he fears being hurt, or at least that's what I believe how Yozo thinks. And it should be noted that the act of clowning, can also be seen in The Setting Sun as well, which he once again uses a mask to attempt to blend into society, yet knowing that he'll still be different from the rest of them
Also one thing I also realized as I am writing this is how Dazai-sensei intentionally in a sense villanizes himself (as it is semi-biographical) as well as Yozo in No Longer Human, and I can't help but wonder if this is another parallel to Dead Apple?🤔
But unfortunately, the consequences of him making that meticulous plan which endangered everyone will not be resolved, as it should be noted that this is a sort of spinoff from the main storyline. But in a sense I like the ending it gave us, as it allows open interpretation. And I feel that it also might symbolize the fact that all the main characters in the movie are still growing, are still learning and are continuing on their paths to face their pasts... And what I think is also quite important to note that is there's also a sense of trust Dazai gives to the people involved in his plans, he trusts them to make that exact move to make his plan whole. And also, what also makes me sad is that Dazai seems to be asking for forgiveness for what he did during dead apple, at least that's what it sounds like to me as he said: "Atsushi what I did earlier-"
And I totally agree that it is impossible to restore full trust back to Dazai. That itself is impossible, for it is a disillusionment, it is a stage you cannot go back to. But and I agree with Dazai-sensei, I believe that this could help Dazai see the better parts of humanity like when he said to Oda, that the good side is really more beautiful.
And I'm so glad to know that you want to save it🥺 It can definitely be hard to see Dazai's good side at times, he is quite confusing and is easily misunderstood ngl. But sometimes I think he intentionally does that so no one can see through his true intentions, to keep himself at a distance, while at the same time wanting others to see through him, to help him😔

May I request headcanons for Aizawa, All Might, Fatgum and Sir Nighteye with a Magical Girl themed Pro-Hero (like Sailor Moon or Cutie Honey) s/o who's cute and a strong badass?
I JUST recently read an amazing piece by another author who did something similar -> @kitkatcarkeys and I'm actually so excited this got requested because I loved it!!
Aizawa x "Magical Girl" Reader!🧚♀️🦋
Aizawa is known for wanting to stay out of the spotlight, but it's been a little difficult lately when he's literally dating a spotlight.
Everything you do, catches instant media attention. Your flashy style is a favorite of little girls (and boys!) Around the entire nation!
At first, it was kind of difficult for Aizawa to take you seriously. When he was introduced to you while you were transformed, he hardly gave you a second glance as he brushed stray peices of glitter off of his black sweater.
Later at UA you bumped into the walking mess while on your way to have a meeting with principal Nezu. His coffee spilled onto your button up shirt and over your materials for the meeting.
"Hey watch it-" Aizawa started to grumble when his breath caught in his throat.
You were beautiful to him, your hair tied in messy bun. Thick rimmed glasses and a plain face. But he recognized those piercing eyes.
"Have we met before?" He asked, taking your things and wiping them off with a thin napkin he'd taken from the cafe.
You gave him a wink, when he noticed a suspicious pen you were carrying. It was neon pink, with a star cap. It was you, "Little Star" The transforming hero.
Aizawa had to learn more about you. And soon he was desperate to run into you again. Luckily, principal Nezu assigned you to assist him with teaching class 1A in a training exercise.
You came to class already in your costume. Your bright pink skirt seemed to flow in the breeze even though there was no wind in the arena. Your hair was long and flowing, your eyes beautiful and intelligent.
The boys snickered a bit, your rising fame had been a topic among the class before. What could they learn from someone so "girly"?
By the end of the session every student was sweating and halfway collapsed to the floor. You had them play a game with you, try and take your magic wand. Your incredible speed, proficiency in martial arts and immense strength made it impossible for a single student to land a hit on you. Aizawa was floored. You had single handedly fought off each kid with a flash of glitter and sparkle.
You started seeing each other frequently. He loved just listening to you talk. You aren't some airhead, you're ridiculously smart and Aizawa scolded himself for thinking that way.
He loves himself a powerful woman, and even though your style is a bit different than his he can't help but love you in those thigh high socks...
All might x Magical Girl Reader!
Wow. Just wow! Who is that beautiful and brave smiling beauty on T.V.? Toshinori was star struck, along with everyone else watching.
A gruesome villain attack had All Might itching. It was one he would usually love to be in the center of, but given his certain circumstance, it was impossible for him to join the fight.
You didn't need anyone's help, however. You wore a baby blue outfit, with matching hair and eyes. It seemed like you were twirling and dancing ballet as you fought the monstrous man causing havoc. With every kick a flash of a rainbow flared, disorienting the villain.
You carried a sword on your back, but you hadn't even needed to use it. It was a magic shape shifting weapon, it took the form of several different things depending on what version you transformed into.
Blue was cool and collected, red was fiery and powerful. Yellow was for healing, and so many more!
He was incapacitated quickly, and with a quick speech about justice and love, you were gone.
Toshinori was still a powerful man with great connections, it didn't take him long to track you down.
You were a bit put off to have someone search for you like that, but it was THE All Might! How could you be anything but flattered?
He mentioned to you that he wanted to help you grow your business, possibly even start your own agency.
It was your dream after all to climb the ranks of pro hero, maybe even have your own team of women who are cute and kick ass!
But quickly you realized after spending so much time with him, that you were both flirting quite a bit. You weren't too happy about accepting help from him while dating, but his charm and sweet heart felt so genuine you couldn't help but cave.
You brought a lot of life and light back into him, though he wasn't the "young stallion" he used to be, he loved being around you, and spoiling you rotten.
You did work hard though, you weren't just handed your own agency. You insisted on proving your worth at all times. People flocked to you, begging to be apart of your movement. You were a symbol to young hearts everywhere! Toys based off of you and your beautiful glowing sword sold in every shop!
The news of your relationship was very hot gossip. You were seen as a power couple, even with All Mights retirement.
Your engagement happened fast, your love is as bright and passionate as both of your careers. You even got to know his students, all of them becoming important to you like your own children.
You have a special attachment to Mina Ashido and Ayoyama. Both bright and passionate students with a hint of flare. They would both love to work for you one day.
It definitely felt like a "man's man" kind of world in the hero industry. And you face a lot of adversity overcoming the stigma with being so feminine. But you can run circles around those big boys and All Might adores it. You're on a winning streak, and you do it with heart. Something he is very attracted too.

Xena: Warrior Princess Review
During Pride Month 2020, I finally got around to watch ‘Xena’. A show that had been in my to-watch list for years, but never got around to start. And when I finally did, I was pleasantly surprised. It was not what I expected and it was everything I think my 11 year old self would have loved.
The one thing that surprised me about the show, was the lack of packaging. Even though it was a fantasy, it also played with different kinds of genres too. I’ve talked about this before in my other review - ‘Xena’ was made at a time when TV had very few rules/rarely had a set audience, since there were parts of the show that were clearly for kids and there were other parts that were clearly for adults (therefore had much more flexibility). I admired how they weren’t afraid to break barriers and touch on deep themes such as religion, morality, redemption, spirituality, motherhood, forgiveness etc - even more than shows of today are able. I also loved how they played into the idea of ‘murder’ and how much it can damage a person - not just the person who commits the act, but the many people affected afterwards. I wasn’t expecting it to be that extreme. It made me think that this must of been the inspiration for ‘Game of Thrones’.
I see a lot of comments here and there, saying how ‘cheesy and terrible’ it was but to just accept it because its part of the fun. And while like any show it does suffer from the occasional spell of bad writing (the whole of season 5) but it was also shown to be very aware of that fact and never took itself too seriously - unlike some shows I could mention.
And regarding the ‘cheese’ factor (what 90s show wasn’t) It definitely can be, but I would call it ‘camp’ and ‘experimental’ more than anything else. (Don’t diss the poor use of CGI - I’m personally sympathetic to what was avaliable to them at the time) The style of humour reminded me of Taika Waititi’s filmmaking. If you’ve watched any of his films such as ‘Hunt for The Wilderpeople’ or ‘Jojo Rabbit’, then you know what I’m talking about. I liked how little they cared about being accurate or logical, which added to the ‘bonkers’ element in the show - which you can see in all of Taika Waititi’s films.
In all seriousness, a show centered around two women in their late twenties, who are realistic sizes (not trying to play teenagers). One of whom is a reformed mass murderer, who has lived a life experience, trying to do good in the world for the first time, picking the other one up who has no life experience prior (after they bugged them until they said ‘ok fine’) in their path to redemption. Just two women who become friends travelling the world together, fighting crime, having a laff, learning from one another without any toxicity - when suddenly when the stakes are raised - they realise ‘oh I'm actually falling in love with this person’ I have watched a lot of badly written shows in my childhood enough to know that, that’s not ‘cheesy’. I’ve never seen a story like that in my entire life. I’m not at all surprised that Russel T Davis was inspired by it while writing the Doctor and Rose’s relationship in ‘Doctor Who’ since he’s gay himself.
What’s more amazing about their love story is how they’re both develop as separate people as well. There was this video essay explaining ‘Why you should watch Angel’ the spin off series to Buffy; how ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer ‘was all about growing up and ‘Angel’ was all about being an adult. With Xena: Warrior Princess, you have both of those stories at the same time.
Xena’s character was such a multifaceted experience to watch. And I can’t imagine anyone else who could play her as well as Lucy Lawless. What planet did they get that actress from? She's flawless! The amount of skill she has to put herself into a very physical role is astonishing. I personally had a love/hate relationship with her character all series long. Not in the way that I hated her, just that I couldn’t trust if she was all good or bad, which I know was intentional on the writers part. I haven’t seen a character quite like her before. She felt very much like a fallen angel; almost like the villain of her own story. Some of my favourite episodes come from fleshing out her character and dark past (‘Locked up and Tied Down’ is one of them) which reminds the audience that's she's not the stereotypical hero everyone expects. I loved her transformation from being this incredibly stoic warrior to being content and happy with who she is in season six, all because of a woman she fell in love with along the way.
I’ve always thought of Gabrielle as the real hero and narrator of ‘Xena’. She’s the prime example of ‘a normal person becoming extrodinary’. Gabrielle’s coming of age story starting out as an innocent girl from a poor village dreaming of adventure, and ending as this vicious warrior who realises the ‘adventure’ wasn’t how she made it out to be is honestly the best character arc that I’ve ever seen. I loved how travelling with Xena made her realise her passion for writing (which was never going to happen in her home town, given the ‘sexist’ and ‘heteronormative’ ideas) and that she became a amazon princess like Xena. In regards to her sexuality, which is more up for debate than Xena’s (which I think we can all agree is bisexual) I personally interpret her as gay, just in terms of how she was written. Theres this moment in season 4 where she's being held up her hair, and Xena “symbolically” cuts it off ‘freeing her’. And she never really gets with a man afterwards, unless she’s being ‘possessed. It reminded me of a moment in one of Hayao Miyasaki’s films ‘Laputa, Castle in the Sky’ where the bad guy Moska shoots Sheeta’s ‘princess hair off’ which symbolises her transition from child to adult.
The cinematography was breathtaking. There was some great utilisation of New Zealand as the scenery. So was the soundtrack. You could tell it was made by experienced filmmakers. One of my favourite things about the show was the domestic elements - moments in the show where time seemed to stop - which made the world around the characters seem very real and magical. Even though it was a show that featured a lot of action/adventure, there was also this gentleness to it as well. For example, you could feel the wetness of the rain, the warmth of the sun and the clashing of the waves. This technique is used in Hayao Miayasaki’s work a lot .
The technique is referred to as ‘MA’ 空虚 meaning emptiness in Japanese. ‘Miyasaki describes this as the time between a clap’
“If you just have non stop action, with no breathing space at all, its just busyness. But if you take a moment, then the tension building in the film can grow into a wider dimension” - Hayao Miyasaki

The episode ‘A Day in the Life’ in season two is a really good example of this technique being used.
To my understanding, they used a lot of the local actors in New Zealand, which according to Lucy Lawless, consisted of ‘African immigrants and other different ethnicites’. It was so refreshing to see such a diverse show (despite some slip ups) especially in the 90s. I appreciated the idea that if the actors or extras couldn’t do an ‘american accent’ people could just talk in their natural speech which was also very refreshing.
The LGBT representation was surprisingly amazing. I never expected so many queer characters in one show - especially under the censors. There was this one episode where they had a trans woman - played by an actual trans actress - win a beauty contest. It made me cry. Not to mention the actress was an aids activist. It was actually Lucy Lawless’ idea to kiss her which was incredibly controversial at that time considering how everyone thought you could catch aids just by kissing. I can definitey see how it validated people back in the 90s.
When people told me that Xena: Warrior Princess was one of the greatest love stories, I thought they were exaggerating a little. But no, watching the show in context, I found out that it really is. Despite its obvious restrictions, It made me realise (regarding token gay couples today) how often television writers rely on physicality and drama to convey a ‘love story’ and how much of it is actually pandering the audience. One of the reasons why Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship felt so genuine is because it was built on mutual respect/compassion and they were also best friends. I felt like I was witnessing something very real and private. It didn’t need kissing scenes or drama to make it interesting.
It really helped that most of the writers were queer also. There’s this opening scene in season 4, panning over to Gabrielle giving Xena a massage (metaphor for sex - because they weren’t able to show that on screen) which I consider to be one of the most iconic scenes in media - considering how I wanted to sick up my supper when I watched the 10 minute ‘empty’ explicit sex scene in ‘Blue in the Warmest Colour’. The difference when something is written by a queer women vs a straight man.
Because the creators weren’t allowed to write their love story in the normal way, due to the studio forbidding them to, they found creative ways to showcase that love on screen - which made for a very magical/sensual experience. And I can safely say, if anyone has doubts about watching ‘Xena’, whenever I expected to be queer baited at a few points in the show, I was proved wrong time and time again. It’s the most romantical show I’ve ever seen in my life!

pingxie thoughts (and prayers) bonus 2/2
continuation for this post where i try to make sense of all the visuals offered to us in the amazing bazaar photoshoot. had to divide the bonus part of this series into two bc of the amount of photos and my own tendency to write novels (even while excluding the video clips). hopefully these can offer you all at least something (more than just an eyeroll at my pretentious poetry).

The Bazaar Photoshoot – Future Dream
As stated in the first part of this “analysis”, the theme of this photoshoot was the Pingxie ten years reunion. I already managed to get through the “ideal reality” photos, so now it’s time to delve into the “future dream” in the remaining ones. These seem to offer a deeper look into Pingxie’s actual relationship during the reunion and how their past and future meet in that moment.

These photos really challenged me to think outside the box. Bc the obvious answer would’ve just been me screaming “Pingxie married!” on top of my lungs but that’s not really something I’m aiming at quite yet. So I decided to call this pile of photos “the (future) dream” instead, which I think suits it quite well. Just let me try to explain why.
Beginning with these two teaser photos where we first see their matching rings and then their matching necklaces. A lot of eternal promises and unbreakable bonds and soulmate symbolism here (my left brain: but Pingxie married!!! me: shush, not now). I feel like these photos in general show many of those themes, try to catch their bond and the deepest essence of their relationship. This is some type of core, them in their purest form, far outside of actual reality now.
The black and white colors make these photos feel even more like they’re part of a dream or a fantasy or a memory almost. Maybe it is about the things they now have and the things they have lost. Maybe it’s black and white bc things have changed but they still want the same things; they still have their bond and things still make sense. (Maybe I sob about this bc I’m just so weak and Pingxie soulmates, it’s confirmed now!)
Also gotta mention here – bc I will allow myself this one moment of gushing – that Pingxie in black and white, ZSX and XYL in these suits (both suits), is sinful. Absolutely sinful. But also stunning. And so soft. And well, what else could be more symbolic than making Wu Xie wear white and Xiaoge wear black? Tho I think that together, they have always been turning a bit gray. (And how many times did I read that as “gay”? Which,,, still true but. Not the point here.)
At this point am also fighting against my urge to talk about the video clip that dropped with the weibo update on the 1st of March and all the hand action we got in that. Bc I just loved how they played with each other’s hands and the snow and kept looking at their hands together in that clip. It felt like an inaudible love confession. And maybe these photos are just that; a voiceless, wordless way to say “I love you”. Neither of them is good with words anyway and the love is so loud am going deaf. I hope they’re happy.
But if we forget that video, I want to pay attention to the poses in these photos. They are sitting or lying down together, Wu Xie’s head on Xiaoge’s shoulder, Xiaoge’s face almost buried in Wu Xie’s hair or at least turned his way. It feels domestic. There is nothing but them. There is nothing else to care about in this world than them being together and this closeness they share after all the time without it. It’s what they want; this very intense focus on each other (and if that doesn’t scream love to you then I don’t know what to say). It’s a little bit like the ideal reality I talked about in the previous post but even more intense and somehow so much more open which makes me think about this as a “dream” or at least a fantasy of sorts.
Then in the two photos above, we again have Wu Xie looking at the camera while Xiaoge is focusing on him. It feels almost like Xiaoge is a prop here, all the focus placed on Wu Xie who is, unlike in that intense photo in the previous post, smiling. Slightly, but still. He looks soft, content, happy. He’s okay to be the center of all this attention bc he knows that it will take it away from Xiaoge (and omg I know yall whine now that such a thing is impossible with XYL’s beauty but just humor me for a bit). He’s so relaxed bc he knows that Xiaoge is content right next to him. (He might also be a bit smug bc he has a man like that but can anyone blame him?)
I have to note then that, after gushing about their outfits and how good they look in them, there also seems to be a deeper meaning to these suits. Because I don’t think it’s an accident (or a thirst trap) that in these whole-body pictures where they lie in the snow, we see their chests and they’re bare-footed. It feels like this is them being bare in general, open. Their chests show bc their hearts are open, feet are bare bc they are vulnerable (and when you google symbolism for being bare-footed, Wikipedia hits you with childhood and innocence so yes, they are innocent here, pure, like they wish to be). This is them being true and honest with each other, offering all those parts of themselves to the other to look at which they never previously had the courage to show.
At least that’s true in this dream, in this future they hope will become reality one day. In this future that, for now, ignores all the difficulties and obstacles between them (bc they have a lot of stuff to sort out and then Reboot happens and. Yeah well, the future never goes as you planned anyway).
Sitting and shoes on now, we then have Wu Xie offering this almost angry look to the viewer. He might be sitting slightly behind Xiaoge and lower than him but he’s the one who seems powerful here. Xiaoge looks almost childish (which might be just XYL’s personality showing through lol) and is focused on his own hands, the ground, and his shoes/legs. It feels like this is Wu Xie being the one aware for once, being the one who carries their worries, the one who sits there protecting Xiaoge so that Xiaoge can finally focus on something else. So that Xiaoge can be free and a little careless. That he can focus on himself and what he wants after giving so many years away for Wu Xie and his (at this moment non-existent or at least tainted) innocence. This is their dream; or at least Wu Xie’s dream bc somehow this whole photoshoot seems to focus on him instead of Xiaoge (like I stated before, he seems like a prop sometimes haha).
In contrast to that thought and the previous photos, this one actually puts Xiaoge on display tho. He’s at the front, in the middle of the photo, and if you don’t get distracted by Wu Xie’s eyes (hard, I know), then you most likely focus on Xiaoge and get stuck there. It feels intentional, like Wu Xie’s strong protective instinct is somehow left a bit hidden? Behind Xiaoge? Who is usually seen as the protector? Which is interesting imo bc at this point Wu Xie has learned to be very brutal, and in Ultimate Note (and before that), we see him being very fierce when it comes to him protecting those he loves. So this setting between them feels a bit like a dream too, a dream where Wu Xie has been able to pull away a little bc Xiaoge is alright while facing the world again. Xiaoge is not as vulnerable as someone who doesn’t know who he is and who to trust. He has found his place to be.
Then the two photos that confused me the most bc at first they felt like they didn't fit at all? They just felt... weird, even if they look absolutely stunning. Here we have Wu Xie and Xiaoge dressed in their second pair of suits (if these can be called suits?) with Xiaoge in this long cape thing and his arms half bare. Wu Xie’s outfit seems almost too simple compared to everything else he’s worn, and they are both now facing towards the same direction while previously they were either looking at each other, away from each other or, in Wu Xie’s case, the viewer.
Maybe these pictures were why I finally came to think about these as “the future” instead of just some type of “dream”.
Because in these pictures it feels like they are actually looking towards the future. Especially in this last photo they are both facing the light, side by side, in these clothes that feel almost like they’re… I don’t even know. Purified? Divine? Heavenly? Please excuse my lack of words but this just feels like that, like some kind of final peace where even their clothes are somehow on a higher level. It’s a dream-like future where they both can stand strong and be together forever, finally. (Also makes me think about how we see their rings in these pictures, like a sign of the bond they have formed and the bond they want to form (my left brain again: Pingxie married!!!! and this time am tired of arguing against that).)
And if we add the other photo up there, where they are slightly turned towards each other, sharing a look almost, it feels like they have decided to go. Like this is a mutual choice of walking forward, some kind of turning point like the last photo was in the previous post. They are going and the future is at their reach and it’s going to be amazing (or at least I believe so, once again, bc they deserve their happy ending).
What are we then left with? With a future that includes them being at peace, being content with each other and the surrounding world. A future that is, probably, more from Wu Xie’s point of view than Xiaoge’s but still so utterly loving for the both of them (bc what else would Wu Xie want than happiness for Xiaoge?). And then if we connect this to the other photos in the first part, this feels almost like that ideal reality coming to life in their future, that closeness and joy and basking in the other’s presence stretched to cover an eternity. It’s so soft and gentle and sweet. Just like Pingxie are always. And I’m not even surprised that their future includes all of this bc what else could they wish for than the final relief of being together?

FTWD 6x16: The Beginning - Analysis
Wow! This episode was amazing! Lots of symbolism that got me super-excited. So, let’s just dive right in!
***As always, spoilers abound for Fear 6x16 below. Don’t read until you’ve watched!***
As both the group and the episode are already conveniently segmented, I’ll just use that same segmentation to talk about everything.
PROMISE ME YOU’LL FIND SOMEONE
First, we have Rachel and her daughter. I’ll admit, it took me a minute to remember who this was, but this segment is replete with symbols. She’s trying to change a flat tire and not having much luck. She hears Morgan’s message, but decides he’s wrong.
While still trying to change the tire, the car falls off the jack and onto her leg, resulting in an open fracture. (Ouch!) She splints herself with duct tape and then tries to walk with her baby girl (named Morgan). A ways down the road, she gives up, puts the baby on her back, ties herself to the dog, and then commits suicide. It’s not immediately obvious, but she knows she’ll turn and she’s hoping the baby will be safe on her back and the dog will find someone who will raise the child.
We aren’t entirely sure what the flat tire symbol foreshadows. But it we usually see it in conjunction with new information, meeting new people, or discovering a new community. We saw it somewhat with Abraham’s group in 5x05. They didn’t discover a new community, but they did discover Eugene’s lie, which changed things. The one I always think of is from 6x10 when Rick and Daryl chase Jesus after he takes off with their truck. He has to change a tire which is how they catch up to him. It leads to them discovering Hilltop for the first time. Here, what happens with Rachel does lead to new beginnings.
First, an emotional one for Morgan and Grace who will probably end up raising the baby together. (It’s fitting, both because Grace lost her baby, and because this baby is literally named after Morgan. Not to mention, the baby was born at the beginning of the season, right when Morgan was given a second chance at life). Secondly, because in this episode, the group is, for the first time, fully and openly meeting with the CRM. More on that later.
But that’s not the extent of the symbols here. The leg thing might be part of the lost foot symbolism, but more specifically it reminds me of Sam’s girlfriend in 4a who had the compass rose tattooed on her leg, and lost that leg when walkers got to her. I won’t say tons more about that right now, but this is definitely a symbol we’ve seen before.
Finally, there’s the “find me” theme. She tells the dog to find someone so her baby will live. Obviously that’s big ever since the Leah episode. We can tie this directly to Daryl in that episode. But also notice that we have a baby (Child and Baby symbolism around Beth) who needs to be rescued after its parents die. And Rachel ties herself to the DOG (Sirius symbolism) who finds the larger group and saves the baby. If that doesn’t scream a foreshadow of Beth, I don’t know what will.
DAME! EL ARMA! (Translation: Give me the gun!)
Next we shift to Daniel’s group. Daniel, Lucy, Charlie, Will, Sarah, Rabbi Jacob, and Rollie are in Al’s armored truck. They’ve taken Riley prisoner. Daniel heard a voice giving coordinates telling them a safe place to go but he doesn’t trust his own mind. So, he can’t be sure of what he heard. Instead, they head toward what they think is the hotel where Alicia is being kept. Riley told them where it was. The bottom of their truck gets damaged and Sarah fixes it. The short of things are that Daniel figures out that Rollie is a traitor and shoots him. Riley charges him and Charlie shoots him. He wasn’t actually taking them to the hotel at all but was just trying to keep them running in circles. So they head to the coordinates Daniel heard on the radio.
Okay, lots of great stuff here. Let’s talk Daniel. Remember before he didn’t trust his own mind. Here, the same was true. In this case, what he heard was true and was also the means to saving everyone, but because he didn’t trust himself—specifically because he’d had a weird hallucination before—he didn’t follow his instincts right away. But along the way, he picked up some betrayal and trusted himself enough to at least try for what he heard. And it paid off.
I 100% think this is a template for Daryl. His hallucination is Leah. And in the show as things are right now, it’s unclear if he knows that or not. Probably not. But at some point he’ll realize he was hallucinating and not trust his own mind anymore.
Because of that, he’ll hear something on the radio (much as Daniel did here) but not trust what he thinks he heard. I don’t know what it will be. Maybe Beth’s voice? Maybe Rick’s? It’s worth pointing out here that the voice belongs to Althea. Her and Isobel have HEAVY parallels to Beth and Daryl. We also have a situation where she left the group for a time, clearly found someone inside the CRM, and returned to save her friends/family/group. So that could possibly translate to Rick as well.
So, I understand better now why they did the whole memory thing with Daniel earlier in the season. It was partly to set up the situation in this episode, and I’m sure there will be more to this arc as we move into S7. But it’s also just a very specific template and foreshadow of things that will happen in TWD.
Another important thing to mention is that the word “phoenix” is mentioned twice in this scene. In fact, that’s how Daniel realizes Rollie is a traitor. I actually think he probably became suspicious earlier than that. If you watch it closely, Rollie is driving and seems to swerve to hit several walkers, which is probably what damaged the bottom of the truck. I think that made Daniel suspicious, but he couldn’t be certain Rollie did it intentionally. He might have just been driving erratically, and everyone’s nerves are really frazzled at this point.
Then Rollie gets out to kill walkers and Riley mentions the world rising like a phoenix. Rollie didn’t hear him say that because he was outside. So when Rollie says the same thing a few minutes later, Daniel realizes they’re working together and using the same terminology.
If you didn’t catch all that the first time, don’t feel bad. I watched this episode like 3x before I caught all the nuances.
But clearly the phoenix symbol is a big deal to begin with. Phoenix = Beth, as well as a general resurrection symbol. And they’re using it here to describe the world coming back from this nuclear attack. I also think it’s probably intentional that this is how they came to realize betrayal was afoot.
And to expand that, it’s also what led them to what would actually save them. I’m not sure exactly what this points to as a template, but I’m sure it’s pointing to one. And that Beth is involved.
As a side note, I want to point out that just before they exit the truck, Sarah called Rollie Kemosabe. That’s a Lone Ranger Reference. This tiny little tidbit caught my ear, led me down a rabbit hole and to some big conclusions about the Lone Ranger symbolism we’ve seen a lot in the main show. That’s a totally different theory for another day, but I wanted to note the reference here.
Two more symbols of note in this section. Sarah hooks her welder to a car battery to get it to work. Battery theory.
Also, Riley says something about how he wants to see everyone’s faces when all their efforts to build a better world turn to ash. That got me thinking about the “ash” symbolism, the most famous use of which was in Consumed, when Daryl said, “we ain’t ashes.” We understood what he meant in context, of course. And it’s always been a potent symbol. Phoenixes rise from the ashes. And ashes are the one of the most pure substances on earth because their impurities have just been burnt away. So it was always an interesting symbol. And of course he says this WHILE he and Carol are searching for Beth.
Well, in this episode, Riley equated the nuclear attack with ashes. And we (crazily) saw Dakota physically turn to ash when the blast hit. So, you could say that those who survived “ain’t ashes.” But my point is that ashes (around Beth and Grady) this nuclear storyline, and phoenixes were all equated in the same sentence. (Coincidence? I think not!)
They end up going to the coordinates, and nothing seems to be there, until a helicopter shows up. It’s not just the CRM. It’s Al and, I’m assuming, Isobel, who save them.
This is huge. I don’t know if Isobel has gone rogue or has the CRM’s blessing on this rescue, but either way, they’re coming face to face with the CRM, and I think that’s super important. Obviously a setup for future storylines.
ENJOY THE VIEW, ASSHOLE
Let’s move on to Sherry and Dwight. First, they’re looking for a SCHOOL. I really gotta nail down what the school means. I’m thinking maybe it represents a place that people think will be safe, or should be, but isn’t. Something along those lines. But we’ve seen them a lot, including very prominently around Father Gabriel in Coda.
In this case, they can’t find the school. They have a map but they either made a wrong turn or it just isn’t there anymore. They’re just looking for some kind of shelter from the blast.
Eventually, they happen upon a cabin. On the outside, it’s very reminiscent of the moonshine shack or even Leah’s cabin. On the inside, it’s actually very nice and well kept. It reminded me of the funeral home in Alone being very clean and well kept, and Daryl saying someone had been tending to it.
Sherry says they should go in. Maybe there will be pretzels and beer. While both of those thing are clearly Dwight and Sherry symbols, and have been used extensively for their arc, they’re also well-established Bethyl symbols. Beer, cuz obviously. Pretzels are a religious symbol signifying the Trinity. But we also saw these around Richonne in 7x12. So, it’s not even JUST Bethyl, but something that’s around couples who get separated/“lose” each other, and then find each other again. No, that hasn’t happened for either Bethyl or Richonne yet, but we have ample evidence that it will. Through the Sherry/Dwight parallels if nothing else.
After Sherry suggests the cabin, Dwight says, “You serious.” Cut to me, laughing and pointing at the screen because this symbolism is SO obvious at this part.
So they go into the cabin, find some beer, and have a discussion about how they wished they could have had more time together. How much time they’ve wasted apart. *coughs Bethyl*
It turns out, someone WAS tending to the cabin. A family had lived there until recently. They saw the missile go up and tried to get into their own storm shelter, but some of Teddy’s scumbag followers kicked them out. Dwight and Sherry go about getting the shelter back. They rip the doors off and when two guys come out, they kill one and badly wound the other. Dwight says they’ll leave him alive so he has a front row seat to the destruction he helped cause. This is where we get the line, as Sherry says, “Enjoy the view, Asshole.”
Dwight and Sherry go into the shelter with the family and that’s how they survive.
A few other things of note, here. Sherry’s line that heads up this section (Enjoy the view, asshole) sounded familiar to me. I was thinking we’d heard it before, but wasn’t sure when. Maybe with Negan or during AOW sometime? Then, it occurred to me. We heard something very similar from Tara in S4 when Abraham, Rosita and Eugene showed up. After killing the walkers, she saw their truck and said, “hope you enjoyed the show, assholes.”
I’m not sure exactly what the correlation is there, but it’s interesting.
Also, when Sherry first goes into the cabin, she sees pictures of the family living there. In the pictures, the couple has a baby in their arms. When they show up, the man even calls his daughter his “baby.” But she’s actually like 8 years old. (Just a guess; they don’t tell us her exact age.) Clearly the pictures were from her birth and that was a while ago, but I had the thought that maybe it’s a hint about time passing, 8 years later, something like that.
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BE SORRY ABOUT
Next, we move to Teddy and Dakota, driving in a truck. He takes her to the top of the ridge so they can watch the destruction when the warheads hit. She apologizes for saving Morgan, who is the one who foiled Teddy’s plans. Per the line, he tells her she has nothing to be sorry about. She also thanks him for accepting her as she is. They hug. I gotta say, it was slightly creepy and pedophilic, if you ask me.
Then John, Sr. shows up. He says he isn’t there to take out Teddy so much as to save Dakota. He tries to convince her to come with him. At first, she’s completely loyal to Teddy and won’t hear of it. Teddy attempts to kill John, but June shoots the gun from his hand. She came with him and also tries to convince Dakota to come with them. They both say that they forgive her for what she did to John, and that has a huge impact on her, but not enough for her to do as they want.
When John kicks a gun away from Teddy, his boot hits metal and he realizes there’s a shelter under the place Teddy brought Dakota to. So, much like our old terrorist buddy Saddam Hussein, Teddy is utterly full of crap. He expects others to die for his cause, but he was always planning to save himself.
This really messes Dakota up when she realizes he’s been lying to her all along. He has to back pedal pretty hard and claims that he was only going to save himself so that when the dust settles, they can go back and set off the rest of the nukes. John figures out that Teddy doesn’t really care about Dakota. He needs her because the two keys needed to set up off the nukes are on opposite sides of the room, so they need two people to detonate them.
John and June take refuge in the shelter, but Dakota refuses to go with them. She kills Teddy (he has the nerve to look surprised) and then we see her literally turn to ash when the warhead hits. Crazy stuff.
I CAN HEAR HER
Morgan and Grace are still at the sub and he’s floundering for an answer. Grace basically convinces him they should kill themselves, because she doesn’t want to have to deal with radiation poisoning again. They almost do it together, but then they hear a baby crying. She thinks it’s Athena, come to get them at the hour of their death. But, it’s an actual baby. It’s Rachel and Isaac’s baby. Morgan goes to get her and declares her a “gift from Athena.” (Let’s totally get into the Greek mythology of THAT.) Clearly he and Grace will raise this child together.
And given the Child and Baby symbolism around Beth, as I mentioned earlier, we can relate this to her. But there’s something else, something broader, that strikes me. If Rufus (the dog) = Beth, who saved the baby, well, Rufus went straight to Morgan. I’ve long wondered if maybe Morgan is the person who found Beth and either took her to Grady or nursed her back to health in some way.
I’m still not going to commit to that being the case one way or the other. Maybe, maybe not. We simply don’t know yet. But once again, with this interesting template, what I will say is that Morgan is mixed up in Beth’s arc somehow. And with Daniel’s group coming into direct contact with the CRM, I think there’s a very good chance Morgan and Beth could meet soon.
The only other thing of note in this section is that before the bomb hits, Morgan, Grace, and Baby Morgan take shelter under a semi truck. We actually see Rufus jump into a car with it’s back door open. We don’t see the dog again, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say he survives. The car with the back door open is a direct callback to this. I.e. Beth’s survival.
WHAT MAN ARE YOU?
Strand’s section is kinda the big cheese here, and I’m doing it out of order because of that. Strand’s scenes here reminded me of 5x06, Consumed, and then Grady itself. And Consumed was leading to Grady, so it all amounts to the same thing. It’s about Beth’s S5 arc. The symbolism here is HUGE. Yes, even huger than Dwight and Sherry’s cabin.
Let me just illustrate how it’s like Consumed and Coda.
1) Strand rides into a city and under an overpass. In 5x06, Daryl and Carol drive a van off an overpass. Also note the yellow scaffolding in the background.
2) He goes into a high rise (sort of ) office building, which also reminds me of Chokepoint, but that, with it’s elevator shaft, also pointed back to Atlanta. Daryl and Carol spent the night in the shelter, the interior of which looks a lot like this building Strand is in. They then went into the high rise office building and that’s when they saw the Grady van on the overpass.
3) In general, we see a lot of parking lots and building with walkers in them, same as Consumed.
4) Strand finds some indoor campers. Corpses in sleeping bags with tents strewn around. Daryl and Carol found the same thing in Consumed.
5) Eventually Strand makes it up into a part of the building that is either a parking garage or at least unfinished, as the walls, ceilings and floors are made of concrete. Daryl and Carol went through several parking garages in Consumed. In fact, right after they saw the indoor campers and Noah took their weapons, they were in one. That’s when we see Daryl drop the book about childhood abuse. So the sequence is even chronologically the same.
6) Strand sees a walker (dead, not animated) wearing a cop uniform. The camera focuses on it twice for about 5 seconds each. Clearly, we’re meant to notice this walker. A callback to Grady.
7) He meets a man living in the structure (Howard) who has TONS of paintings, and wears glasses. The reason I mention the glasses is that I had a moment where I really thought this might turn out to be Doctor Edwards. It wasn’t, but they hid the guy’s face for a while, he wore glasses, and he had PAINTINGS. Tons of paintings. (Remember, Edwards had the one of Peter.)
Now, I could say a LOT about these paintings, but I’ll save most of it for other theories later in the week. Just know that many of them look colonial, and they support the Revolutionary War (and some other wars around the same time) templates that we’re now recognizing.
The line, “what man are you” applies to Strand telling Howard he’s Morgan. It made me think of episode 9x06, Who Are You Now. It kind of refers to choosing who you want to be in the wake of disaster and tragedy. And that was definitely a theme Beth brought up at Grady when she told Dawn, “this is who you are, until the end.”
Strand and his new friend ultimately survive. Either they aren’t close enough to the blast or it’s just not big enough to take out the building they’re in, so they both live. But they were both clearly prepared for these to be their last moments. Now take a look at what Strand says when he realizes he won’t die. If this is meant to be his Grady, tell me these words can’t apply to Beth:
Howard: Why are you laughing?
Strand: Because I’m alive. After everything I did, I’m still here.
Obviously, the “I’m alive” applies. But more to the point, this is a situation that Strand expected to die in, but he didn’t. And the “I’m still here?” That isn’t just a symbol, folks. Beth literally said that to Carol at Grady. Coupled with everything else, especially the cop walker, that’s pretty compelling.
He then goes on to talk about how he’s a survivor and has to rebuild who he is several times. *coughs Beth* He says they can now rebuild the world with art (Beth and Edwards), books (all the book/library symbolism we’ve seen), music (Beth) and good bourbon (alcohol = Bethyl).
Then he says, “it’s the dawning of a new day.” Guys, that theme has been literally hanging around in the background since 4x01 at the prison. This is what they’ve been pointing to and looking toward since Gimple took over in 3x16/4x01.
I KNOW HOW TO SURVIVE
Strand says this, but we actually see it as a section heading before we see how EVERYONE ends and survives. When I realized that, it occurred to me that each of these lines that serve as section headings are about surviving somehow. About how someone in the group ended up circumventing death.
“Promise me you’ll find someone” was about Rachel made sure her baby survived. “Give me the gun” (in Spanish) was Daniel figuring out Rollie’s deception and getting his group to the CRM coordinates so they lived. “Enjoy the view, Asshole” was Dwight and Sherry getting the family’s shelter back, which was how they survived as well. “You have nothing to be sorry for” is a little different. They were talking about Dakota saving Morgan at the beginning of the season. So it might be geared toward his survival. But I also think the world at large will survive without Teddy and Dakota around, and this also led to their demise. “What kind of man are you” was about Strand doing what he had to, even despicable things, in order to survive. And then of course the last and obvious one, “I know how to survive.”
So, in the end, most of main characters survived. The only deaths were Teddy, Riley, Rollie, and Dakota. The rest managed to find shelter. They’ll all be dealing with radiation sickness for sure, so it will be interesting to see how they handle that next season.
My final, bird’s eye view takeaway is this: much like TWD 10x18, Find Me, I think each of these story lines represent parts of Beth’s arc in some way. Some past. Some future. Maybe in some cases, both at the same time.
Rachel at the beginning may represent the fall of the prison, but also future arcs for Beth. The cabin clearly is a callback to Still and Alone. As I discussed, Strand’s part is a callback to Grady/Atlanta. The Daniel stuff represents future Daryl searching for Beth. (Notice how they end up with the CRM, and in 10x21, we saw the same thing symbolized for Daryl when he came across those army walkers.) And even Teddy and Dakota’s bit represent the demise of the bad guys, while the good guys (John, Sr. and June in that case) survived somehow.
So this was a super-cool episode. Very symmetrical in it’s symbolism and a great end to a very epic season. In truth, other than John dying (which SUCKED) the back half of Fear S2 has really been stellar. And that’s mostly because it’s lining up perfectly with all the things we’ve been theorizing for quite a while. Which of course makes me happy.

She-Ra S5 E05 - Save the Cat
ARE YOU READY TO HEAR MY THOUGHTS ON THE BEST SHE-RA EPISODE EVER? SO AM I!
Sorry this took so long. I was pretty nervous to talk about this episode, to be honest, because I love it so much and was scared I’d forget something or wouldn’t do it justice. Don’t know if I still need to say this at this point (since it’s been so long), but there will be spoilers for the rest of the season in this post!
- First of all, and I’ve already talked about this in my review of Stranded, but I need to say it again: Just the premise that Adora is going back to save Catra from Horde Prime really makes their story come full circle: Back in the pilot, Adora left the Horde without Catra, and Catra has been accusing her of “leaving her behind” ever since. In Catra’s mind, Adora leaving the Horde meant that Adora didn’t care about her, and it’s been a huge source of grief and bitterness for her. And now, so many seasons later, even after Catra has hurt so many people, even after she’s asked Adora not to come for her, Adora is literally walking up to Horde Prime himself (way more dangerous than Hordak’s version of the Horde) and endangering her mission and the entire world because she doesn’t want to leave Catra behind again. Because Catra means that much to her. It’s such good storytelling! If Corridors was what started Catra’s redemption, then I think Save the Cat is what redeemed Adora in Catra’s eyes (or at least, what made her understand that Adora does care about her).
- I love how determined Adora looks in that beginning shot. That’s the look of a girl about to go save her gf!
- I thought it was a bit strange that the clones didn’t notice that Adora’s talking to the others on her way to Prime, but since Prime later reveals he knows her friends are there, they probably actually did notice and just didn’t say anything.
- I wish they’d kept that scene of Glimmer having a more elaborate flashback, but I get that they just didn’t have the time for it.
- I love how Entrapta just goes *heart eyes* at the many clones. And Bow asking if they’d believe they’re the inspectors 😂 - great way to bring back that gag.
- “You would never risk the safety of your Catra.” PRIME SHIPS IT. No, seriously though - Prime says he “sees all” (and we know he’s seen Catra’s thoughts) and he said “your” Catra. This, and some other lines in this episode, made me realize it would be canon. (Also, fun fact, because I watched some bits of this show in other languages for fun: As awful as the French dub is for changing that “Kyle had a crush on Rogelio” line to “Catra had a crush on Rogelio”, in this instant they did really well: In French, Prime goes a step further and says “your precious Catra” instead of just “your Catra”.)
- The way Prime touches his clones is so creepy.
- Entrapta asking Wrong Hordak (thinking he’s Hordak) if he recognizes her made me so emotional. I wasn’t even that into Entrapdak back in s2/s3, but the way their relationship was written in season 5 really made me ship it. It’s about the PINING, the LONGING, the TRAGEDY, the way his memories of her make him overcome two mindwipes... I’m here for it!
- I always wonder if it hurts Entrapta when someone grabs her by the hair. Since her hair is magical and all that.
- “We’re not keeping him.” “But we broke him! We’re responsible for him now.” Okay, I love Wrong Hordak. I love how Bow talks about ‘keeping’ him as if he was a pet. And I also like how Entrapta immediately realizes how useful having him around could be. Also, I love that they name him “Wrong Hordak” and seriously just keep calling him that. 😂
- “I don’t fight for the first ones. I fight for my home, for myself and for my friends.” I honestly really like that the show never showed us the first ones or Adora’s birth family. Not that it would necessarily be a bad thing, but I like the message that it doesn’t really matter where she came from - Etheria is her home and what she’s fighting for and that’s enough.
- “Of course, your Catra.” He said it again!
- “She hoped you would come for her, poor thing.” Oh, the angst is real, I love it! Just thinking about Catra (who’d told Adora to stay away) eventually getting so scared that she started to wish Adora would come for her after all... I love angsty stuff like this.
- Oh, that first look of Catra with the gelled back hair and green eyes is so properly creepy.
- When Wrong Hordak complained about the ship being designed “so that it may only be navigated by one who access to the hivemind” it reminded me of Entrapta’s castle that only she can navigate. I think some people have pointed out before that Entrapta and Horde Prime are foils to each other (especially when it comes to Hordak), so that’s a really nice parallel there.
- How did Glimmer manage to open that door when she’s running from the clones? I thought only the clones could open them? Is that a mistake, or is there some canon explanation?
- “What did you do to her?” Oh, I love it when Adora’s so worried about Catra. These two and how cute they are will be the death of me.
- Oh, Prime’s so creepy when he touches Catra... I love him as a villain, but I love to hate him, you know?
- “My place is with Horde Prime, Adora. I don’t want to leave.” Can we talk about the parallel between this line, and Catra insisting back in season 1 (in Promise, I think) that she doesn’t want to leave the Horde?
- “You broke my heart.” I mean, come on! That’s gay!
- Catra and Adora’s fight is so tragic because it’s the first time they’re fighting but both genuinely don’t want to hurt each other.
- “I’m not leaving without you.” Exactly what Catra wanted to hear from Adora back in The Sword Part 2 - You know what I said in the beginning of this post about their story coming full circle?
- “I don’t wanna hurt you!” “But you have already hurt me.” This is supreme lesbian drama, and it’s so good! (I’ve been waiting so long for a show to give a lesbian romance this kind of attention!)
- Adora’s terrified expression when Catra almost lets herself fall is so painful. And the way she hugs Catra afterwards... my heart.
- Catra and Horde Prime talking together is creepy in just the right way.
- “I always hated that guy in particular.” Hell yes, Glimmer!
- “She was afraid in the end. And she suffered. Perhaps I will make her my new vessel, though she would not last me long.” Oh, the angst hurts so good, I love it! (Why do I love seeing my faves suffer?) Also, this slicked back hairstyle on Catra looks kind of amazing.
- “Why did you come back? We both know I don’t matter.” “You matter to me.” 😭😭😭😭😭😭 Yes, tell her, Adora! Tell her you care! Don’t let her talk herself down like that!
- “Come on, Catra! You’ve never listened to anyone in your life. Are you really going to start now?” I love how this is what gets through to her. I could also just quote the entire dialogue from here because everything about it is pure perfection:
Catra: “You’re such an idiot.”
Adora: [smiling and crying] “Yeah. I know.”
Catra: [laughs]
Adora: “I’m going to take you home.”
Catra: “Promise?”
Adora: “I promise.”
Catra: “Adora...”
I mean, what do I even say to that? Catra affectionately calling Adora an idiot, the callback to Promise, how Adora doesn’t hesitate to say “I promise”, how Catra breaks free of Prime’s control... it’s all so perfect. 😭
- Adora just not hesitating to jump after Catra - that’s love, holy shit!
- God, Aimee’s voice acting when Adora cradles Catra... so good. (And that’s their childhood theme playing in the background.) Didn’t Aimee (or someone else?) say on Twitter that that was intentional since your most vulnerable moments make you feel like a child again, or something like that?
- Adora’s transformation into She-Ra gives me chills every single time. Best scene in the entire show, don’t @ me (or at least second best after the kiss). The way she cradles Catra’s lifeless body, Horde Prime’s taunting words, and then she opens those glowing eyes... amazing. And what makes it even better is that this is her first proper transformation after breaking the sword. We got a tease of it in Stranded, but this is when She-Ra really comes back, and it’s her love for Catra that enables her to transform. PERFECTION.
- “You miscalculated.” Yeah, you miscalculated how gay she is.
- Entrapta whistling Darla over like a dog is amazing. 😂
- Adora carrying Catra bridal style while that epic music plays... I’m living!
- Also, side-note: Adora’s new She-Ra look is SO MUCH BETTER than the old one! She also seems a lot stronger now - look at that fancy stuff she can do with the new sword! (I like the idea that the Sword of Protection was only holding her true power back.)
- That healing scene! Adora’s healed people before, but it’s never looked this gay. And Catra waking up and saying “Hey Adora” is just so fitting.
- That hug... I’m not crying, you’re crying. They’re finally together! And Catra’s clinging to Adora so tightly! 😭 Also, she’s purring! (When I first watched this ep with my sisters, one of them literally went “Finally!” at this moment - mood.)
- Hordak finding the LUVD-Crystal and saying Entrapta’s name also gives me chills. I also just realized that he thought Entrapta was dead until this moment - holy hell!
- One more thing I love about this episode is that their plan to save Catra actually worked. Because it’s a plan that seems so stupid and risky at first, and while you’re watching you kind of expect it to go completely wrong and expect Horde Prime to catch them... and then it seems like he does, only for Adora and her friends to turn things around and succeed. I love that.
- Another thing worth pointing out is the whole symbolism of Catra’s death and rebirth and how it marks the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
So yeah, this is the best She-Ra episode ever, I rest my case. Before I watched season 5, I expected it to be gay (I even estimated the chances of Catradora becoming canon at around 70%), but I didn’t expect it to be THIS gay. This episode went beyond my wildest dreams and expectations. Horde Prime saying “your Catra” twice, that whole “You broke my heart / Prime has set me free of that pain” talk, Adora being so scared for Catra during their fight and so determined to save her, the whole “I’m going to take you home / I promise” part, Adora jumping after Catra and cradling her in her arms, her love for Catra bringing back She-Ra, the bridal carry, the healing scene, the hug, and I could go on. Noelle said on twitter that there were two versions of this episode and the gay version is what we ended up getting - AND IT SHOWS.
This is when I knew for sure that Catradora was going to be canon. Before season 5, I gave it a chance of 70%. After those little hints in the first few episodes, I said 80%. But after Save the Cat, I was 100% sure. I basically already considered it canon after this. I kept wondering how it would happen, but the "if" wasn’t a question to me anymore - so I decided to just lean back and enjoy the ride through the rest of the season :)

So I was looking for my notes for the final Like Sugar chapter and CAME ACROSS THIS AMAZING THING THAT I HAVE NO MEMORY OF WRITING...
...um, you guys want some Evanstan oops-we-got-married-in-Vegas fic? from my drafts? the opening’s a bit unpolished, but it’s pretty fun.

It’s been a long day. A long convention, full of panels and fan breakfasts and photo ops, all fun and amazing but also, by the end of it all, exhausting. And they’ve both been trying so hard (or at least Sebastian has; he knows Chris doesn’t feel the same, knows they’re friends, just friends, always friends) not to smile at Chris too much, not to touch Chris too much, not to lean into Chris during photos too much and bask in that solid laughing good-guy presence. Sebastian can’t let himself feel it, not this ridiculous feeling that’s always been too much, never fading, never letting go of his heart even so many years into this shared crazy ride; and so, when Mackie suggests they all go on some sort of Vegas bar crawl to let off steam, Sebastian says yes.
And then Chris says yes. So do a few other people, but Sebastian loses track promptly. Because it’s Chris, always Chris, he’s looking at. It’s Chris’s voice he focuses on, goofy and serious and Boston-bright, especially after a couple (more than a couple) beers. It’s Chris who smiles at him, quick and warm, and then hands him another drink, having noticed Sebastian’s finished the previous one.
Their fingers brush. Sebastian aches with want. He tosses back half the drink. His eyes water, briefly.
They’re all happy and tipsy and wandering toward yet another bar (”It’s cowboy-themed!” proclaims Paul Rudd, a man on a mission) when they spot it.
A chapel. A wedding chapel.
Sebastian stares at it. It stares back, garishly merry, hinting at so many improbable marriage plots. And Sebastian’s a writer, okay. He knows about stories and set-ups. He says so aloud, to the chapel: “I know what you’re trying to do!”
The chapel doesn’t respond to this accusation, sadly. Sebastian takes Mackie’s drink, which has rum and a pineapple slice in it, and drinks some of it.
Chris sees the chapel too. And says, “Stories?”
“Not important,” Sebastian mumbles, glaring at neon, wishing Chris wouldn’t ask or would bend him into a sweeping fairytale kiss right here on the spot. Neither is an option.
Chris says, loudly and with surprising intent, “You think Steve and Bucky ever, y’know, ever...like...on the battlefield, to, to...”
“Be each other’s next of kin?” Seb says. “Yeah, yeah, that, and...and they’re, y’know...they’re each other’s...”
“Everything!” Chris says. “Each other’s everything! Like...they should totally be married!”
“So...” Sebastian says. “So we should! Y’know. For them!” (And it won’t be real, of course: Chris is talking about Steve and Bucky, not himself and Sebastian, and it won’t ever be real, but Seb’s tipsy enough to want to pretend, to walk through the motions, just for one moment. Besides, Steve and Bucky TOTALLY deserve a ceremony.)
“For Steve and Bucky!” Chris yells, arm draped over Sebastian’s shoulder.
Which is how they end up drunkenly swearing eternal love at two in the morning in front of a man dressed like Elvis. Sebastian’s holding bright pink plastic flowers because Anthony Mackie - also quite drunk and finding everything hilarious - shoved them at him. Chris is somehow holding rings, gold and simple and bought on the spot. Chris has on a clip-on bow tie, which is crooked, because Paul Rudd for some reason had one in a pocket. Sebastian didn’t ask why.
He reaches out, an impulse, and tries to straighten the bow tie. Hopeless, between his clumsy fingers and Chris giggling and the cheap clip-on nature of it. But Chris gives him a sloppy fond brilliant smile anyway. “Seb.”
“Chris.”
“Sebastian. Seb.”
“Still me, yeah...”
“So sweet,” Chris murmurs, and Sebastian’s stomach lurches, though that might be the rum and vodka of the night. Or it might be the hurt: knowing that Chris doesn’t mean any of this, wouldn’t be here if it weren’t a ridiculous joke, a Vegas story to tell, about Steve and Bucky and some sort of symbolism. Not real. They’re not actually getting married. Got to remember that.
It’s hard, when Chris’s eyes are so bright and blue and alcohol-intent and focused right on Seb’s face. When Chris takes both of Sebastian’s hands in his and says, voice a low Boston-kissed rumble, “Always loved you, y’know. Always...always have. Always will. Promise. Like a vow! Y’know. Makin’ a vow to you. So smart and so sweet and so...so fuckin’ pretty...I always wanted, I just wanted, I never thought you’d--but I will, I do, I’ll be fuckin’ here for you forever. To the, the end of the line. More. Always.”
Sebastian can’t think much, between the vodka and the wanting and the ache of hearing the words, exactly everything he’s always wanted, and the knowing they’re not for him. Chris being Steve. Loving Bucky. To the end of the line. Using that line: their characters. Not themselves.
He manages to say the “I do,” when it’s his turn, and he starts to say, “Chris--” but can’t get another word out before Chris kisses him.
It’s not the best kiss of his life. It’s clumsy and stubble-scratchy and flavored with beer and tequila. Chris’s hands are big and hot on his face and they pull him close and cradle his head, and Chris kisses as if aware of tipsiness but determined to give this one act, this one instant, as much focus as he can summon.
It’s the best kiss of Sebastian’s life anyway. In every way: being swept up and subsumed and surrounded by Chris.
He falls into it, into heat and strength and the taste of Chris’s tongue and the shape of plastic flowers being crushed between them and digging into his chest.
Then there are more drinks. Celebratory shots. Cheers from Mackie, who is the world’s worst enabler. The night blurs and sings and hums, laced with alcohol and the presence of Chris’s hand - constantly touching Seb now, at his back, on his shoulder, holding his hand - and the unaccustomed weight of a small circle of gold on his finger.
He doesn’t recall stumbling up to bed. He doesn’t recall how or why Mackie’s managed to get them into a honeymoon suite, though he and Chris are both giggly and loopy and Chris makes cooing noises at a rose-petal heart on the bed and Sebastian himself announces that Steve and Bucky would’ve loved it.
He wants to suggest that Steve and Bucky would’ve taken full advantage of it, the bed and the hot tub and every surface in the room, but his tongue’s stumbling over words - especially those too-bold words, making Chris think about him and sex - and he just laughs more, helplessly, instead.
He fumbles with his shoes. Chris comes over and makes a vague offering noise and kneels and helps yank them off. Sebastian really wants to kiss him, wants to slide down and get arms around Chris and topple them both into bed, but doesn’t have the balance or coordination for that.
Now shoeless and flopped back on the bed, he feels Chris collapse on the mattress beside him, both of them dressed. Sebastian’s lost the flowers somewhere; Chris’s tie pops off and flies away in the direction of a table.
He’s drifting on the verge of sleep when he feels a large arm drape itself over him, when Chris’s body tucks itself in around him, curled up as if trying to protect him, or to make sure that Seb’s still here. Chris’s nose nuzzles the back of his neck, and Chris’s voice mumbles something Sebastian can’t make out, because he’s warm and cozy and falling into sleep.
He wakes up to the sound of someone throwing up, to a parade of supervillains in his skull, and to the scent of coffee. He lies very very still for a moment, taking stock. Bits and pieces return.
Chris. A chapel. Flowers. Words. Rings.
Oh god. He stares at his hand. Yep, still there. Gold and shiny, a helpful cheerful presence.
Oh god.
Chris stumbles out of the bathroom, pale and hung over, wincing. He’s also still dressed from the night before, rumpled and red-eyed. He’s himself, though, so his gaze goes right to Sebastian, and he gets out, “Seb...you, um, you okay?”
Chris Evans worries about other people, even here and now, even like this. Chris is perfect. Sebastian loves him.
He says, wincing at each word for reasons both physical and emotional, “I think I’m dead. Or dying. Did you...make coffee?”
“You,” Chirs says. “You...you like...coffee. And then...then I had to. Sort of. Throw up a lot. Sorry.”
Sebastian sits up gingerly. Every piece of himself protests. “You made coffee. For me.”
“I. Uh. Yeah? There’s also water...”
“Chris?”
“Yeah?”
Sebastian holds up his hand. The ring catches morning Vegas light. Shimmers. “Did we...are we...that wasn’t...was it...?”
“Oh god.” Chris’s whole face registers shock. Exactly, in fact, like a man who’s just remembered large significant chunks of the night before. “Oh god....” He holds up his hand too. Yep, matching. “I think...”
“We said I do,” Seb says slowly. “We had...witnesses...we signed the, y’know, the thing...you kissed me...”
“I kissed you,” Chris whispers. Seb’s not sure why that’s the part that bears repeating, but his head’s not in any shape to make sense of it. Maybe that’s the part that horrifies Chris the most.
“I think...” Sebastian looks at the ring, which smirks. Then up at Chris. “I think we just got married.”

What are your pokemon headcanons for some of the characters teams lol
I've figured out some fitting pokemon for most characters but I like to try to find a neat theme and setup to go with the choices. I don't have all of them set in stone but I'll share the choices I'm the happy with atm.
Some of the descriptions will be a bit long. Characters included are Rasiel, Fran, Belphegor, Chrome, Ryohei, and Bianchi. (With very slight mention of Haru and Kyoko)
Rasiel- I’ll just get him out of the way first. Due to his status and traumatic childhood Rasiel’s preference in pokemon revolves around high class ghost types. Vain status symbols and testaments to his ability to overcome death. His team is comprised of pokemon like Cofagrigus, Chandelure, and (Authentic)Polteageist. His most notable pokemon is Cofagrigus.
Not long after the “incident” that left him terribly injured and ill, employees around the castle noticed the presence of a distressed yamask pacing the outskirts of the castle grounds. Some noted the unsettling resemblance between the young prince and the mask the pokemon carried. At some point during his recovery, the Yamask found it’s way into the castle and rushed straight to Siel. It’s presence didn’t scare the prince, it was oddly comforting and the stray pokemon offered him some small bit of company while he remained isolated.
The consensus between his caretakers was that the Yamask had mistakenly taken the likeness of the prince during the moments he was buried after his brush with death. Rasiel miraculously surviving and Yamask retaining his likeness made the pokemon confused and curiously drawn to him. And it wasn’t just Yamask. Rasiel’s near death experience and the recent flood of negative energy throughout the castle grounds turned it into a beacon for ghost type pokemon. Overtime Rasiel developed a fascination with death and the afterlife and became as drawn to ghost types as they were to him. Not once did he have to go out of his way to catch his own pokemon, all of his partners eagerly sought out their new prince of their own accord.
Rasiel’s main partner Cofagrigus is a very unsettling and dangerous pokemon and most are surprised by how docile it is in his presence. Not only is his connection to Cofagrigus deeply personal, his family is wealthy enough to satiate it’s appetite for gold and his status as future king makes him a perfect match for that particular pokemon based on it’s history. -���There are many depictions of Cofagrigus decorating ancient tombs. They're symbols of the wealth that kings of bygone eras had.”
Fran- Fran has a very notable lack of motivation when it comes to most things, being a trainer included. He doesn’t really have a preference and his team is made up of pokemon he obtained through odd circumstances. Notable pokemon in Frans possession are Espurr, Zorua, Mimikyu, Appletun, and Hatterene.
A tiny apple-less applin became infatuated with Fran’s hat and was determined to make it it’s new home. Though Fran tried many times to shoo the pokemon away or lock it out of his house, it always found its way to him again. Eventually he grew tired of constantly dealing with it and just let it take up residence in his hat. It’s delighted little eyes always poking out of the top. Fran eventually evolved it not long after he acquired a new hat.
Though I don’t have an idea for how he acquired Mimikyu and I do have the hc that Fran is for some unknown reason is the only known person capable of looking under Mimikyu’s disguise without it having any negative affect on him. Not even Belphegor or Mukuro are willing to personally test their luck in that regard.
Hatterene are scary and near impossible for the average person to approach without provoking. However Fran’s monotonous disposition and overall lack of outward emotion made him unintentionally cross paths with one. Though he had no desire to catch or battle it he noticed it had intently started following him. It had never encountered a human that didn’t instantly agitate it and that made it curious.(She also just liked his big silly hat) He didn’t particularly like the idea of having such an aggressive and volatile pokemon in his possession but he also didn’t want it following him through places filled with people that could potentially provoke it, not that he was concerned it might attack other people, he just didn't want it to attack him. So he made a compromise to take it with him while in the safety of a ball, and it surprisingly obliged.
There is ONE perk though. Hatterene HATES Belphegor. He’s loud and hostile and his vibes are terrible. He is everything Hatterenes hate in a human. If Fran tries to use Hatterene in battle while Bel is nearby it will turn it’s focus straight to him. Sometimes Fran does it on purpose because honestly Bel deserves it majority of the time. Her Fairy typing also directly counters Bel’s favored dark type.
Belphegor- Gonna be honest, I’ve tried to put a lot of thought into Bel for this AU but he is incredibly difficult to work with. It’s hard for me to assign him pokemon because I just can’t seem to find any that are good enough to fit his vibes. Or in his case bad enough. The main thing I decided for him was that he would have a focus on dark types and two of his pokemon would be a shiny Absol and the exception to his preference, Gengar. Alolan Persian, Deino, Weavile, and Skuntank are pretty solid contenders but i’m not 100% on all of them yet. Tho I do like the idea of both of the twins having meowth, Bel ending up with alolan persian and Rasiel ending up with Kantonian Persian.
Absol’s are considered bad omens, bringers of disaster and death, and that is exactly what comes to those whose paths are crossed by this crimson visage. It’s presence is a warning that it’s master is near. Bel has had this fearsome partner since he was a child, it’s first appearance before him marking the “death” of his brother. Since then Bel has been a beacon for disaster, anywhere he goes he happily brings death with him, and that is why Absol is never far from his side. Always there to be a warning, or a threat, to those who venture too close or are unfortunate enough to have Bel’s sights set on them.
The exception to his preference in dark types is Gengar. He liked it’s vibe and got it as a direct response to Fran’s Hatterene being a constant pain. Though head-to-head it does come down more to skill than typing since both have disadvantage and weakness against the other. Generally they tend to be pretty even in power.(when you don’t consider the fact that Fran doesn’t really put much effort into battles.)
Chrome- Chrome isn’t one for battle when it comes to pokemon and doesn’t really have a preference. For Chrome her pokemon are therapeutic and a source of comfort in her day to day. Her pokemon are Musharna, Sylveon, Togetic, Shiny Audino, Kirlia, and Gothorita. Pokemon that specialize in soothing the fears and anxiety of their trainers, and bringing them happiness. Her very first partner was a Munna.
It isn’t uncommon for doctors to use pokemon as assistants for a variety of medical treatments. Though they were not exclusive to that ward, munna were often found in the pediatric ward at night. They provided assurance and comfort to recovering children, soothing their dreams and eating away the nightmares. Though there was little hope she would survive, Chrome had one assigned to her bedside. A small comfort during what would likely be her last few nights. Her moments of consciousness were short and scarce, so her dreams were all she had left.
Up until Mukuro’s odd intervention, Munna remained snug by her side. It would sometimes visit her in her dreams, providing some company within her peaceful, yet lonely world. After all what company could she dream of if everyone had abandoned her? When she awakened and had miraculously stabilized due to Mukuro’s aid she just so happened to take the Munna with her on her way out of the hospital.
Ryohei- While not one I tend to think too much on and I dont have a full party thought out for him, I recently decided I like the idea of him having Mega-Lopunny. I know that seems like an odd choice, because it is, everyone thinks it's an odd pokemon for him to have, including himself, but under no circumstances would he ever consider removing it from his team because it was a gift.
When his little sister Kyoko became a trainer the first thing she did was try to find a pokemon she could give to her big brother as a gift, as a way of showing him she was capable of catching pokemon on her own and to thank him for helping her get to that point. At the time Buneary felt like a good fit in her eyes because it was cute and its ears seemed to pack the kinda punch Ryohei liked his pokemon to have.
Ryohei was overjoyed by the gift and didnt question in the slightest why she would give him a normal type when he specialized in fighting types, he was just proud of his sister. His synergy with Lopunny is surprisingly solid as it makes for a good pseudo fighting type, and in it's mega form it not only becomes a proper fighting type it also gains the ability to PUNCH GHOSTS which is cool as hell!
Once Kyoko is a little older she feels kind of embarrassed about her choice given Ryoheis type preference but he insists Lopunny is amazing and gladly shows off it's power to anyone when given the chance, making sure everyone knows it's because of his little sister he has such a powerful partner. This does not help ease her embarrassment. Ryohei eventually returned the favor by gifting her a stufful. Something that suited her that was cute and strong, and also because Haru had one and he knew how much Kyoko loved it.
Bianchi- Instead of going full poison types like I originally planned to, I started liking the idea of her having food themed pokemon that are just kinda wrong. She's the only char I have considered taking some liberties with the canon designs and typing of her pokemon. At the moment I hc her having Alcremie, Vanilluxe, and Tsareena. All "shiny" though people are sure Bianchi's pokemon were not always those sickly off-colors. Their designs would be more warped/melted with tsareena being an exception as she seemed to have a better response to it's trainer-inflicted poison typing. (A G-maxed Alcremie in her possession would be a horrific sight)
Bianchi herself isn't doing this intentionally to her pokemon and also doesn't seem to notice their differences. Her love for her pokemon and the care she provides for them are genuine, they just somehow always end up “wrong”. Their sickly appearances haven't hindered their ability to function in battle and they actually seem to be unusually stronger than their average counterparts.

It was a strange arrangement, living with a literal demon, but it wasn’t bad. Knowing there was a badass immeasurable force protecting the house kept my anxiety to a bare minimum. Not to mention, for his talk of being around more, we weren’t usually in the house at the same time. Oftentimes the only way I’d know he’d even been in the building was the fact my closet door was open. On the rare occasion that we were actually home together, it was just like being with any other roommate. Sometimes he’d stay in what was now designated as his bedroom and other times he’d read beside me on the couch while I watched movies.
No matter where he was or what he was doing, he was quiet; which was a pity because he had such a beautiful voice but it was also probably for the best considering how much I’d come to enjoy it. Hell, I just enjoyed being in his presence in general. Serene though he was, he was good company. He was always such a good listener and found ways to keep my talking about myself which usually was a topic I avoided. He made me feel comfortable, important, despite the fact he was leagues above me in the order of the world.
I let out a little sigh and rolled onto my back, letting my tablet fall to the bed beside me in favor of wrapping up my stomach. Anytime I thought about him I got those annoying little butterflies in my gut. Why did he have to be so damn attractive? Not just physically, either, although I’d be the first to admit his looks alone could bring me to my knees. Our personalities meshed so well together. I’d never met another person- being- who actually enjoyed sitting in another’s company in silence. Everyone always felt the need to be doing something, but I preferred just being side by side with our own activities. Mixed with that fact he was undeniably genius-level smart and courteous in a way most human men weren’t- I didn’t stand a chance.
“What a perfect asshole,” I huffed quietly.
It was late and I knew I had to try to get some sleep before work tomorrow. Unfortunately, that would mean I’d have to stop daydreaming and actually sleep but once I started thinking about Dark, it was almost impossible to stop. Work was already a hellish land without exhaustion so it was with much grumbling and sighing that I rolled over onto my side and forced my mind quiet.
Think of something calming. Rain; Watching a storm through the bedroom window at night. Listening to the raindrops and staring out at the dark sky. Dark… Would he be the kind of person who enjoyed watching storms too? Or even stargaze? Damn, how amazing would it feel to cuddle up to him on the roof and stare up at the sky? - Fuck, no! Despite burrowing under the covers and wrapping up like a human burrito, I just couldn’t get my mind to shut up. My body was nearly humming with thoughts of him. After half an hour of tossing and turning, I gave in to my baser instincts. It was the one thing I knew would knock me out easily. Throwing my blankets aside, I snagged my trusty toy from the bedside table and switched it on.

I knew I most likely resembled a fish out of the water with how I gaped at him but it was taking my brain a little while to catch up. While I knew he had powers beyond my comprehension, I hadn’t even imagined something like this.

His amused chuckle brought my attention back up to him, only now he was much closer and I was reminded of just how obscenely I had been saying his name minutes ago.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t-”
He put up a hand and I went silent immediately, unsure of how this was going to play out. Those damned butterflies were going crazy in my belly again under the weight of his stare and I couldn’t resist the need to look away, finding a particularly interesting bit of carpet to the right instead.
“You were calling for me. I was concerned that your former lover was back causing trouble, but imagine my delight at walking in on such a beautiful sight,” he sighed, head tilting with a little grin, “I also couldn’t help but notice that I seemed to be the cause of your desires.”

Goosebumps prickled every inch of my skin and my stomach flipped in shock at the depth his voice reached, the echoes mimicked by an ethereal blue and red glow pulsing around him. It only served to remind me that there was so much about him- and his kind- that I knew nothing about. How much power and ability he had hidden in the most beautiful body.
“You’re so gorgeous,” I gasped without much thought.
There was a twinge of confusion across his face for only a moment before he leaned back in and stole a brutal kiss. My lips ached under the pressure but I didn’t dare complain as his taste infiltrated my senses. Just as I was starting to run out of air, he pulled away and let out a huff of a laugh.
“You are, by far, the most curious and provocative human I’ve ever met,” he muttered.
In the next movement, quicker than I could fully comprehend, he had my legs jerked upon his shoulders and his hands on my hips. It was debilitating, the sudden change in position, and how perfectly full it left me. I wasn’t given long to marvel over it before his nails were biting into my skin, holding me still when his hips began slamming into mine. Hard. Demanding. Dominating. Every thrust burned his control into my mind like a branding.
It was almost too much of a good thing, so much raw energy, and emotion bouncing around like lightening in my veins. I couldn’t- wouldn’t- stop it though. My skin felt on fire and my cunt abused, and yet I had never felt anything so paradisiacal.
“Open your eyes. Let me see you,” Dark snapped suddenly.
The sight above me was one I’d give anything to see again and again for the rest of my life: his monochrome skin bathed in those celestial lights, the flex of his trim muscles with each thrust, the peek of fangs with every grunt and groan he unleashed. I felt a wave of indescribable emotion twitch in my heart when our eyes locked, and had to look away instantly.
“No, no, darling,” he grunted huskily, “Don’t shy away. The expression in your eyes is absolutely delicious. I want to see you, need you to see me, when I make you come.”
God, the way his voice reverberated in my head made everything else slip away. It was so easy to just listen to him. Meeting his gaze once more, I was blessed with the sight of pure adoration.
“There we go. Good girl.”
A zing of pleasure shot down my spine at the little admission of praise and tore a whimper from my lips.
“Now, I need you to do one more thing for me.”
He paused until I finally realized he wanted some sort of response.
“Y-Yes, fuck, of course. A-a-anything,” I moaned, ankles framing his neck as he gave a rough thrust of his hips.
Another smirk graced his lips when he said, “Come for me. Let me hear you say my name again so sweetly.”
Cheeks flushing, I managed a half-assed nod before my world went into chaos with a brush of my clit. It took a good few moments before I realized it had to be one of his shadows since both of his hands were bruising on my hips. That realization mixed with every little movement culminated into the start of an earth-shattering end. It was so hard to keep my eyes open under the building waves assaulting my core. I needed to though. If not for his satisfaction, then to see the way his face contorted in bliss. It was captivating and there was a sense of contentment that came with knowing he was feeling even a modicum of the pleasure he caused.
The brush of the tendril solidified into a movement almost tongue like at the same time that his hands moved from my hips. I nearly whined at the loss of his hold only to be placated by his grip resurfacing under my knees. Without warning, he suddenly sent my legs back towards me, holding them spread as he leaned over me and took up a brutal pace. It wasn’t but moments later that everything snapped.
I couldn’t hold back the scream that tore up my throat as my world shattered. Shocks of whites danced behind my lids with every pulse of bliss that rang through my core, radiating from my head to my toes behind every thrust of his hips. In a moment of weakness, I blindly reached for and snagged his hair, jerking on the silky locks needily.
“Pl- Fuck, god, Dark, please, wanna feel you bite me!”
His response was in a language that was both terrifying and beautiful, resonating in my chest heavily until he finally dropped my legs and leaned down over me. His scent was overwhelming as he surrounded me in nearly every sense. I wanted nothing more than to bury my face in his neck and breathe it in but I was quickly reminded of my more pressing desires the moment his lips brushed my neck.
“I need to know where you’d like me to come first, darling. Wherever you want,” he moaned, voice catching near the end.
The rumble of his voice sent my thoughts scattering once more with another wave of pleasure washing through my body, but I managed to focus enough to stammer out, “I-In me. I’m on the sh-sh- fuck!”
My words were cut off by blinding pain. It almost felt as if his teeth broke the skin, a throbbing burn emanating from the bite, but it was quickly encompassed by bliss. I felt my eyes rolling back as his husky moan reverberated against my throat and he buried his cock deep in my core with a final thrust. The aftershocks of his cock throbbing had me quivering weakly but I fought through the mind-numbing bliss and fulfilled the last of my thirst, brushing my nose against his cheek and soaking in the scent of his woodsy cologne and natural musk.
Laying under him, though uncomfortably hot, was the best feeling; The sensation of his strong body mimicking the comfort of a weighted blanket.
“That was… Dark, I don’t even have words,” I whispered finally.
With careful movements, he slowly pulled back until our eyes could comfortably meet and I realized belatedly that I still had a steely grip on his hair, releasing it with a nervous giggle.
“No regrets, then?” he asked, obviously amused.
I shook my head as I bit my lower lip before offering him a little smile.
“The only regret would be if it was a one-time thing,” I admitted softly.
His eyebrow twitched up and said, “Not at all, darling. I’ve been patient for so long, waiting for the right moment to claim you. The only thing that could keep me from you is you yourself.”

Hunger Games Characters I picture in Disney Characters.
Katniss I Put her with Merida ( Brave) Belle ( BATB) Meg ( Hurcules) Elsa (Frozen).
Why Merida. Well shes good with the bow and arrow ( I actually haven’t seen Brave fully so I don’t know much about her).
Belle. Both are strong willed women Willing to do anything for family. Both have no choice but to stay where they are “captured” both are like if I have a will to live through this I’m not gonna go down without a fight. Both have 2 men after their hearts, Both know how to survive on their own if needed. She learned to fall in love with a beast.
Meg. This is more the love side for Katniss. The Song I wont say I’m in love is basically Katniss’s theme song. Like she wont admit it she loves Peeta but girl we all know..
Elsa. In a way Katniss did shut out Prim to protect her. She didn’t want to hurt her sister strong willed to protect her sister at all cost. Plus I know Cinna is to credit for this but her mockingjay outfit *Chefs kiss* plus they wear their hair the same.
Peeta. Hercules Kristoff ( Frozen) Kovu ( Lion King 2) The Beast (BATB)
Hercules he’s strong. But he literally gave up everything for love. Which is so Peeta.
Kristoff. Okay this one both have such a charm that attracts everyone. Tho both have obessions and flaws So they are a bit of fixer uppers. But both are somewhat accpecting to the fact I will wait until you make your choice. Both have kind and sweet hearts. Both are kultzy but pull it off like a champ. ( And Katniss didn’t fall in love with a man she just met. They knew each other since the age of 5) But Never truely met until the games.
Kovu. Hes the sexiest damn thing. In Disney characters I freaking swear He has a way with his words. Charming. Loyal tho. He is willing to go against his families ( whos kinda a bunch of ya know bad guys) for Love and whats right. So Peeta.
The Beast. This is Peeta in Hijacked Form ( Some parts). Besides the totally Hitting on Belle part. We all know deep down the love he had for Katniss never left. He never stopped loving her. Not based on how good she looked but who she is. Plus A Kiss broke the spell. Also he had a bit of charm in his hijacking but so much anger and Katniss was the only one who could truely break him outta it. Also I was hoping that He would of said so you came to look at the beast have you.
Finnick King Triton ( Little Mermaid) Maui ( Moana) Flynn Rider ( Tangled) Aladdin.
Kin g Triton. Well for that Trident comes in handy. ( The king is kinda a jerk why are most fathers in disney movies total jerks I’ll never know) But I hope that Finnicks son at least knows what a fork is compaired to a freaking trident ( and doesn’t use it as a hair brush) man that was stupid. Both are basically the big shot of where they live. Both love water live near or in water... ( What they hell do they eat under the sea ?)
Maui. Okay Finnick is a bit of a show off a little. Not his fault hes so damn good looking. Both have that sarcasm that makes you laugh but your like oh my god please stop. Both have there if Finnick had a song It would be your welcome. But still so much we never know about them both.
Flynn Rider. Okay well both just have the certain personality that is strangely Alike. Both know how to fight if needed. Both are like well the ladies are okay but not intrested until they find the one.. Both have their charm. ( Plus I love Flynn rider).
Aladdin. We know that Finnick has a huge part of him he never opened up. Before when he spilled what the real price to winning is. That was not everything. There is a part that Beetee said If you knew Finnick it’s amazing he’s still with us at all. So hes been though it.
Johanna Bo Peep ( Toy Story 4) Mulan and Mulans Grand mother ( Mulan) Tiana (Princess and the Frog)
Bo Peep. From the first toy story to the 4th one Bo peep has changed a lot. ( Kinda like Johanna from after her games to who we met in Catching fire) Tho a lot of them is still there that hasn’t changed. But their will to fight. and that they dont take BS as an answer. That they both may look weak but inside them so much more then that. ( I was shocked to see Bo Peep kinda like Johanna in toy story 4). Not scared of a little fight and blood. Frankly I’d be worried that they both would try to kill someone in their sleep.
Mulan. I love in movies where the weakest person goes to the strongest like that. Totally Johanna. And they are the girl worth fighting for I see more of her in Johanna then Katniss because Johanna went from faking being weak to deadly like that. Where as katniss she didn’t hide it at all really. Plus if this wasn’t a disney movie i would of love to say what Mulan would of said when they found out shes a girl really. But both are bad ass females. Who really had no choice to go into this ( Mulan had to save her father Johanna got picked to be in the games)
Mulans Grandmother ( I didn’t realize I did this) But I Johanna’s humor she says what she wants and no damage. They don’t ruin the moment they make the moment 100 times better.
Tiana. She was totally fine not finding love ( But its disney she did) I really like her will to not give up no matter how many changes are thrown at you. and tolerting her best friend but I freaking love Charlotte She is the one who knows what to say in a moment where no one else would understand basically the girl talk that Katniss hates but we all have it in us.
Prim Repunzel ( Tangled) Baymax ( Big Hero 6) Anna ( Frozen)
Lets Ignore the fact that I brought up 2 of these lovers before to other characters
Repunzel The healing part Prim has it is in her born with it. and she has a nack of many talents. And In a way is locked up in District 12 ( But Protected by her sister)
Baymax He is the cutest thing out there. Caring knowing when you need a hand ( Like katniss) a healer ( I might of went out to look for the healer of disney). Not much of a fighter ( But I swear if you did what Hiro did if you did that to prim oh my god the fight in her but the healing will always be apart of her)
Anna. Okay I basically but Anna here because she is Elsa’s sister. Simlar hair styles but.. Both are willing to do anything for each other. Prim had a knack to see if the fence was on to see if Katniss was gonna be late coming back from hunting. Both are gental who wont hurt a fly (Unless your almost husband is a total jerk)
Effie Charlotte ( Princess and the Frog) Dory (Finding Nemo ) Yzma ( The emperors New Groove)
Charlotte. Oh my god If this isn’t effie I have no clue what is. She does stuff to get a better district. But then Truely cares about her district 12 tributes 74th Games. She would almost do anything in her power to make them on time and for her victors.
Dory Okay Effie is a bit clueless in her own little world. Telling them about the pearls lol and whitty. Effie doesn’t have short term memory loss she has I’ve been living in the capitol and this is what I know.
Yzma This is the effie we dont wanna see Frankly I am happy we didn’t see this side of her. It’s the one who gets really pissed off I’m sure it would be something else tho to see.
Cinna. Fairy God mother (Cinderella) Genie ( Aladdin) Nick ( Zootopia)
Fairy God mother. Cinnas out fits are like bibbidi bobbidi boo I make an awesome outfit for you. Also He takes good care of Katniss.( Like sent from up above) On her side beyond his end. A bit of a rebel but over all a really good guy
Genie. Cinna is like the Genie without 3 wishes. But he is there and supports Katniss fully. And just helps her out when se needs it. and Is a friend in Katniss. Basically the one she trusts first and fully,
Nick Okay this is an odd one But he rebeled from his bad guy character to help Judy ( Police officer) with a crime. Cinna helped out katniss and pretty much a rebel to go beyond to help her. To show shes the symbol of this war... To show that she should go a head fight for it all its worth. Plus I got your back making your costumes not only good looking but you wont have to worry about death yet your costumes prevent that.
Haymitch. Mushu ( Mulan) Lumiere ( BATB) Crush (Finding Nemo)
Mushu He is that reality check that Katniss and Peeta needed but also will do almost anything to protect them ( Even lying for there own good) But also oh my lordy funny.
Lumiere. It’s his carefree side where Katniss shot an apple at the gamemakers and just like oh well. That happened... Plus not playing by the capitol rules and He is just like a good mentor to Katniss and Peeta hell the best. He really wants them to try to win this thing.
Crush. Okay that turtle was the most stoned turtle I’ve met. To this day. And as for Disney Characters this might not be the most drunk but It’s one i can Find.

I would like to think Iduna would of done the same if she had that chance.

Thoughts of the Past - The Show
Alright everyone, with quarantine and everything going on I've had time to revisit this story. I've finally figured out how to link the other chapters so feel free to catch up on that. Hope you enjoy!

Lorcan looked at himself in the mirror one last time before realizing that his outfit wasn’t going to get any better than this. He left his hair down and kept the slight stubble on his face because Elide had once said he looked adorably rugged like this. His button-down white shirt was cleaned and ironed and he threw on a black blazer over that. However, he realized all too late that his black dress jeans had a hole in one of the knees from when he had stumbled home drunk during one of the last benders and hadn’t realized it but it seemed pretty on-brand for him anyway, last he laced up his boots, grabbed his keys, phone and wallet and walked out the door.

Elide was nervous. She wanted to wipe her palms on her dress but then remembered that it cost more than seven months of her rent. Aelin said she found it at the back of her closet but Elide knew that the dress had been bought specifically for her. Price tag still on, her jaw dropped to the floor when she saw that it was Dolce and Gabbana….and was over 7,000 dollars. Elide protested but Aelin had insisted and if Elide was being honest with herself, she looked good. The dress was black and strapless with a lined boning bustier that exposed the smooth skin of her torso, cinched at the waist with a tea-length tulle skirt that made her feel like a ballerina with four-inch black stilettos that gave her some hight. Her hair was pulled into a low chignon with a few stray strands, red lips and smokey eyes completed her look. She looked hot, and she knew it. She only hoped that it was enough to cover that she felt like vomiting. She glanced at the clock on the back wall, the show would be starting soon, and while this wasn’t her first exhibit there was still this vulnerability of having people see and judge the experiences that she brought to life in her art.
Deep breath in. You can do this, she whispered to herself, but first, she needed to dry heave in the bathroom.

Lorcan had stopped and turned around so many times on the way to the art gallery. There was just so much that could go wrong that he worried nothing would change. Then he remembered that it wasn’t about him - it was about Elide. But he also didn’t want to screw anything up and embarrass her again, but he had to at least apologize. However, she could just through a drink in his face and be done with him, but she might also forgive him, and so his thoughts went. It wasn’t until he turned the corner of Fifth and Main did he see Rowan and Aelin waiting for him. They were laughing together about who knew what and he felt a twinge of jealousy that came and went so quickly Lorcan was ashamed he had even felt it at all.
Aelin spotted him first and offered him a small smile. She had been a huge help the past few weeks after his meeting with Elide in the coffee shop. At first, she was stubborn and mean, refusing to let him speak and giving him a piece of her mind but eventually Rowan calmed her down and she was willing to listen. Having Aelin on his side was a step in the right direction but she wasn’t Elide. Lorcan took a deep breath as he got closer to the couple and Rowan placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Ready?” Rowan asked, but Lorcan’s mouth felt dry and he could feel the panic rising into the throat. He didn’t want to mess this up, he wanted a drink…or two…or a whole bottle. He swallowed thickly, trying to get some moisture onto his tongue but it wasn’t enough. He wasn’t enough. He didn’t even know why he was trying. He took a step back away from Rowan, ready to turn around and go home but then he felt a hand squeeze his and looked to find Aelin’s fingers interlacing with his.
“I don’t understand art,” Aelin said loud and clear looking at him straight in the eye. Whatever he had expected her to say, that wasn’t it.
“What?” he asked still so confused. “You go to art opening’s all the time, Ace you’re house is like a goddamn museum.”
She shrugged a shoulder nonchalantly. “I went because I grew a socialite. Going to art openings was good publicity, and I supported so many other forms of the arts that it would have seemed rude not to.” She squeezed his hand again before letting it drop. “Before I met Rowan, I would just pick a piece and stare at it, until eventually, someone came along and state their opinion and I could agree or disagree, or make something up entirely. Point is, art is like literature. You can say that the artist used blue paint to symbolize the ever-persistent sadness and someone is bound to agree with you. Or disagree with you. Lorcan art is subjective. It’s okay to have an opinion even if it’s entirely wrong.”
Lorcan ran a hand through his hair. “You told Ellie all the time that the artwork is amazing, you would sit on our couch and debate the use of color or texture. I can’t - I can’t do - I can’t do shit like that Ace”
“I’ve had years of practice with pretentious rich people.” she deadpanned. “Do you think she’s talented?”
“Of course I do. I love how she gets so into her work, that she’ll come home with new canvases and create something, anything, and that you can see the pieces of her soul into whatever it is she created. I think she’s the most beautiful thing on the planet when she’s in her paint-splattered overalls, with a bandanna keeping back her hair, while she blasts music. Or when she can’s find her paintbrushes because she’s lost them in her hair.” Lorcan fingered Elide’s ribbon hair tie that he’d been wearing for the last couple of weeks after he found it in the bathroom. “I love her.” he sighed.
Rowan had been silent through this whole exchange but offered him an understanding smile. He breathed in deeply and slowly exhaled and Lorcan followed the motion in return.
“Okay,” Lorcan said running his hands through his hair one more time. “Let’s go.”

“Your pieces have always been stunning, but this seems to a first for you Miss. Lochan. Normally you provide us with about four or five pieces in collaborations with other artists but this is a whole new level. You have thirty-five pieces here tonight, all from you, all tying around a singular theme. Would you care to explain what brought about this sudden change?”
Elide smiled at the reporter, she knew that this question was coming but still it was hard to put into words.
“For so long I was afraid of myself. There are so many other great artists in the world, my cousin Manon Blackbeak for instance, and it’s hard to not compare myself to other people. However, the story that I am telling tonight with these pieces needed to be let out. I think one of the best things about being an artist is that we can tell stories in a different way, even if it isn’t our story. I hope that people like it but I also know that this story isn’t going to be for everyone, and that’s also okay.” Elide shrugged. “What’s important is that someone somewhere can relate to it and that they will get to experience it because I decided that it was time for me to create outside of my comfort zone.”
The reported smiled while Elide was talking, the sound of cameras clicking the only signal that an interview was going on and that this wasn’t just a conversation between strangers.
“One last question, the title of the collection,‘Thoughts of the Past’ what do you mean? There aren’t any historical events that are featured so why this title?”
Elide’s smile faltered for a split second before answering. “While there aren’t any historical events there is a history, and I think it’s up to people to find their own answers about what that history is.”
The reported nodding and offered her hand, “Thank you so much for your time, Miss. Lochan, it was a pleasure to meet you.”
“Same to you, enjoy the rest of the show.”
Elide took this time to briefly look around the room. It was a great turn out, invitation-only but almost everyone had RSVPd yes. Elide walked over to the open bar and the very cute bartender offered her a smile and a wink. “What can I get for you?” He asked, placing open palms on the counter.
“Soda with a lime, please.” She answered, offering him a smile in return.
“Really?” he asked already putting ice in a glass. “It doesn’t seem like your drink.”
“Only on show nights.”
The bartender’s eyes widen a little as he realized that he was speaking to the artist of the hour.
“You made all of this?” He asked placing her drink in front of her with one hand and gestured around with the other.
“Guilty.” She responded, squeezing the lime into her drink before taking a sip. The bartender whistled. “Damn, this is all really good. You must be really happy.” Elide tried to keep her smile in place. Was she happy? She was proud of her work, she was glad for the amazing turnout, but was she happy? Before she had a chance to respond to the bartender she heard her name being called from across the room. Looking over she saw Aelin waving her down with Rowan in tow behind her.
“Excuse me,” she said to the bartender before rushing over to where the couple stood.
“Holy shit El, this is amazing!” Aelin gushed pulling Elide into a hug once she got closer. “Like I knew you were talented but this is a whole new level for you.”
Elide blushed. Hearing praise from strangers was fine but when it came to her close friends and family Elide couldn’t help to be more self-conscience - these were the people who knew her, knew the emotions she hid within the paint or other media.
“You did all this in a month?” Rowan asked, looking around.
“It started as a way for me to get my feeling out, you know? I couldn’t talk to him, it was too much, and I was so tired of fighting. So when things got a little too hard I would sneak away and paint.” Elide shrugged and took a sip of her drink.
Aelin and Rowan shared a look with each other that Elide tried to ignore. She didn’t want their pity, it’s why she had never talked to them about it before.
“I just wish he was here though, you know. Like maybe now that it’s all out in the open.” Aelin opened her mouth and then shut it, looking to Rowan for help.
“What am I missing?” She asked, looking at Rowan. He sighed and pointed. Following his finger, she felt her heart stop and start again as she found the familiar back of the very person she was talking about. She whirled on her two friends a hiss falling from her lips.
“Surprise?” Aelin questioned, placing jazz hands up. Elide let out a groan and turned back to where Lorcan was standing at one of the pieces she did after the breakup. He was just standing there, not moving and Elide felt her heart tighten.
“You don’t have to talk to him E.” Rowan started. “He just wanted to come to support you.” Elide took another sip from her drink suddenly wishing that it was something stronger.
“I mean, he’s here though, so you might as well talk to him,” Aelin suggested. Elide didn’t respond and headed in the opposite direction from where Lorcan stood.

Remus dangled from his tree within the imagination, hanging upside down above Hope while pouting. She barely even acknowledged him as he rambled, flipping absentmindedly through her book. It wasn't that she didn't care, she just knew the basics and that's all she really needed to remember.
"And then! And then!" Remus failed his arms slightly. "When I show up again everything's destroyed! I spent days keeping Logan from the library so I could do it and they broke everything!"
Hope hummed softly in sympathy, hearing Remus huff. She did glance up when he had finally fallen silent, the anger still obviously there. Then came a resigned expression and he tumbled from the tree, landing perfectly fine beside Hope.
"It's just, I knew no one else was going to remember, y'know? They never do, and for once I just wanted Logan to have a good birthday. One spent outside of his room where he could actually have fun instead of working at that awful desk of his."
"So then just snap your fingers and fix everything?" Hope suggested, as if it were the most obvious choice.
Remus groaned, flopping onto his back in the grass. "I can't," he whined, covering his face with his hands. "That area is devoid of any powers any of us have... That's why I spent days working on it!"
She sighed, setting her book down before reaching over to comb her scaled fingers through Remus's hair. "Then I can try to help this time. Or maybe just figure out something to do here. Logic likes the stars, right?"
"He adores them." Hope rolled her eyes as a lovestruck look flashed across his face.
"Then do something based off that."
She returned to her book, missing the falter of Remus's smile. And neither heard the retreating steps of a certain logical side.

Remus sauntered back into the mindpalace, his chat with Hope not at all helping his mood. He did feel slightly better, but it wasn't by much. The walls were brightly decorated, hurting his eyes and the smell of chocolate cake filtered through the home. This soured his already bad mood as he made his way to his room.
He supposed his gift to Logan would still be alright, he'd kept it on his bed. Remus could always just make certain to avoid Patton and Virgil next year if he ever wanted to give Logan anything.
Music started playing downstairs as he opened his door, barely glancing back as Patton climbed up the stairs, quite possibly to get Logan himself. Remus took a deep breath, letting the door close softly behind him. He slumped against it, feeling unusually drained. He'd been feeling that a lot lately, it seemed.
Remus jolted as someone cleared their throat, banging his head against the door in the process. He hissed, reaching back and looking up at whoever dared to intrude the privacy of his-
Remus's thoughts froze when he saw it was just Logan. He huffed lightly, leaning back a bit more carefully against the door. Logan joined him, and they heard Patton pass by, calling downstairs that he couldn't find the logical side.
"What're you doing here, Lo? You should be out there celebrating your birthday."
He felt Logan shrug, the side leaning lightly against Remus. "Why would I want to spend my birthday with people who obviously don't care?"
"But they do care-"
"No they don't, they didn't even remember until they saw you sneaking off to the library." Remus fell quiet. At least he tried to keep Virgil and Patton in a good light. "I saw what they did to all your hard work and all... And I'm sorry you spent all that time on it just for it all to be destroyed. I'm sure it looked lovely once it was all done."
Remus smiled slightly. "It was. I was so excited, it had everything you would have liked. Everlasting coffee, a space theme, new books to add to the shelves. The streamers all formed the dozens of constellations you've told me about over the past few years. And so much more..."
"It certainly does sound amazing." Logan hummed softly, reaching down and intertwining their fingers. "Much better than the party they decided to throw at the last minute, it's too much."
Remus snorted lightly. "Seems a bit too little, if you ask me."
Logan rolled his eyes, smiling. "True." He rested his head on Remus's shoulder. "While I was waiting in here for you to get back, I found the gift you were planning on giving me."
Remus stiffened slightly. "You did?" He felt Logan nod. "Do you... Do you like it?"
"I haven't opened it yet. I wanted to wait for you."
Remus huffed softly, turning his head to plant a gentle kiss to Logan's temple. "Logan my love, I will never understand you."
Logan's cheeks heated up as he nuzzled Remus's neck lightly. "I just thought it was wrong of me to open it without you there to see my reaction. Besides, you make everything better."
"Sap." Remus mumbled with a chuckle, holding his hand out. The present disappeared from the bed and instead rested in his hand, and he held it out for Logan. "Well go on then, I'm here now."
Logan opened the gift, a grin appearing as his eyes sparked in excitement. Remus felt as if he were falling in love all over again, watching as Logan picked the small object out of the box.
A silver necklace pratically glowed, an infinity symbol with tiny deep blue and green gemstones embedded into the charm. He held it up slightly, the light catching onto the gems and shining to the wall. Remus grinned, reaching over and tilting the charm slightly, the lights changing ever so slightly to show Hydra.
Logan smiled, pressing a kiss to Remus's cheek. "See? Much better than whatever they could have given me in a short amount of time."
Remus's smile fell. "Still, it would have been nice to have a small party in the Library..."
Logan was quiet for a moment, before an idea popped into his mind. He got to his feet and held a hand out for Remus, smiling and ignoring Remus's questioning look. "Come on, I've got a great idea."
