Controversial opinion. Feel free to yell at me, I don’t care.
Most people’s deaths should be respected. The loss of human life is sad. At the very least, that’s a viewpoint I hold.
But some people have caused so much suffering that I cannot respect them even in death and I don’t believe they deserve to be respected. Nobody should suddenly be pardoned of their crimes (literal or metaphorical) just because they have passed away.
#there’s plenty of examples#this post was made about#mohammad mokhber#iranian president#but it applies to plenty others#henry kissinger#for example#please note#I am not religious#I know that affects these views#feel free to ignore#feel free to yell at me

@paradox-n-bedrock I have been ENABLED thank you
In the Temple-Doctor-Noble house, in France because “Hey you wanna go watch the Grammys at the Doctor’s? He messed with his TV and I’m fairly sure it taps directly into the cameras of whatever you’re watching,” Shaun is just pumped a great artist from ‘his’ era dropped a single for the first time in 30 years, and that single turned out to be a JAM. Donna, not particularly a music person, doesn’t really listen to the words until 2-3 plays later, but then it hits her. The Doctor hears it once and is immediately gutted (not that he lets it show while everyone’s busy jamming out to You May Be Right). The two of them spend the next day listening separately over and over like you do with a song that’s so good it hurts you, until they realize that the other is just as affected, and then listen to it together. Eventually they’re able to hear it and be normal about it. The Doctor and Shaun both goofily sing along. Between the three of them, it’s on a ridiculous level of repeat in the house. And it’s got a solidly pub-song feel so Wilf is all-in with the singalongs. By day three, Rose retracts her initial admittance that it’s a pretty good song, and declares if she hears it one more time she is going to kill them all.
The song is just so timely. It’s a song about being late, potentially even too late, to get back what you had and about hoping and pleading to be able to salvage it, and isn’t that just the Doctor-est thing ever??
The Noble-Temple-Doctor house is in a STATE over Turn the Lights Back On
#me? considering songfics in the year of our lord 2023?#more likely than you think#is this what the good omens people feel like when they yell about Hozier?#going to rearrange Doctor-Temple-Noble as many times as I can#it’s just my perogative#I really meant to do this sooner I swear#but job#the doctor is canonically a Billy Joel fan btw#it’s in Chelsea 426#it’s also not just ten and fourteen who would get emo about this one#there’s plenty of examples#the foremost being thirteen being so many months late she loses half her ‘fam’#like the poor darlin was so SAD about that#it was an accident but she waited too long to turn the lights back on#anyway I fucking love Billy Joel but I’m definitely not forcing that onto my other interests#why would you even say that

media made by addicts always has a certain je ne sais quoi that I can't quite describe but I feel like I have sixth sense for identifying. even when a work is in no way about substance use or compulsive behavior, there are just ways that authors treat subjects like guilt or secrets or self-control that make me go "hang on. You 🫵." and then when I check it always turns out that I'm right. it's even happened to me a few times, I'll make what I think is a generic tragedypost and people in the notes will say "op am I reading too much into this or are you. maybe. yknow. 👀"
#best example I have of this is when I read 'the rime of the ancient mariner' for the first time#stared down at my poetry anthology and was like 'mr coleridge do you have something you want to say'#the flip side is I feel like I can also usually tell when a piece of media that features addiction *wasn't* made by an addict#not because they're necessarily bad (some of the works I'm thinking about are plenty accurate and compassionate)#but they just. lack a little bit of that x-factor. they read a bit like an informational pamphlet from an upscale rehab facility. yknow#marina marvels at life

I found myself in the unfortunate position of trying to explain to my normie coworkers the concept of a high fantasy ball
me: it’s like. you know. like a formal ball but more magical aesthetic. heavy on the flower crowns and long flowing robes. very ethereal
Coworkers: like Bridgeton?
me: kindaaaa but not really bound by a specific era of history….
coworkers: like game of thrones?
me (sweating): I mean. yeah that’s more dark fantasy, but there are events that definitely go that route. I’m thinking more…*gives up and shows them a video*
coworker: oh wow people are wearing fairy wings!
#I now there’s plenty of mainstream examples that I probably could have used but you’ve got to understand#Bridgerton is probably the closest that a lot of them have come as a frame of reference

please....can u speak on the conspiracy
So the conspiracy (more like a theory, really) is that Kimi was pushed out of the team starting in 2008 to make way for Fernando, who was more appealing to the big sponsor coming in. Before you click out thinking "Max, that's stupid, no team would throw a championship for a sponsor." I agree! But keep in mind that they didn't throw the championship, they fully expected to win the WDC with Felipe (and almost did) and did in fact win the WCC in 2008 with Felipe and Kimi despite everything. But there were really suspicious things going on. So with that in mind...
It's 2008. Kimi has just won Malaysia, the second race of the season. Three days after his win, there's this:
.
Ok, kinda weird, but whatever. F1 runs on rumours, right? Suggesting that Kimi might retire when he's doing so well is silly. And in the article they seem to be pretty ambivalent over whether it would be Felipe or Kimi to leave.
Fast forward to Spain two races later. Kimi scores his second win of the season and takes the championship lead. The season is shaping up pretty well for the defence of the title, you’d think this would be a good time for him, but again, the story du jour is Ferrari wanting Alonso in Kimi’s seat for 2009.
[x] I guess now we know at least Massa's seat is secure...?
If you’re like me, that sounds stupid. The reigning champion just won the last GP and his contract runs until the end of 2010, so this media narrative makes no sense. Something pretty catastrophic would have to happen for that to ever come to fruition, right?
So anyway, he gets a first row start in Monaco. Great, that's almost a surefire win/points, right? Wrong, he got a drive-through penalty due to the team not fitting the wheels to the car on time before the race start. Not a great race and he ends up outside of the points. Lewis is now ahead in the WDC by 3 points. Not really a disaster, but...
[x] what on earth...
[x] again the talk of retirement.... I mean, it's weird, right?
Zero points in Canada due to being rear-ended in the pitlane, which the team can’t control. Then he’s back to being neck to neck with his teammate and Lewis by the time the British GP is done in early July, with all three drivers on 48 points. Good news, right? Just gotta stay on track and not fuck it up somehow.
[x] sigh... (this one's a little harder to source as it was printed media, but I've seen this exact interview quoted in different pages)
So anyway, they change his front suspension for the next race in Germany. Kimi has always been very sensitive to changes in the car, so he knew something was wrong. Ferrari (via Michael, who was then head of development) say he's just not adapting well to the upgrades. Maybe, sure, but why aren't you bringing upgrades that are geared towards your world champion?
(an interesting remark from Mark Hughes here if you scroll down to the comments, which adds weight to Kimi not being listened to when it came to car development in 2008)
Bar a podium in Hungary, Kimi scores 0 points in 4 out of the next 5 races. It takes until either Monza or Singapore (hello crashgate!) for Ferrari to put his suspension back as it was.
He proceeds to get 3 podiums in the remaining 3 races but it’s not enough to catch up. By Singapore he was already 27 points behind his teammate (reminder this is the old points system) and very much expected to play the supporting role. In the penultimate race in China he very obviously gave up P2 to his teammate:
"I know what the team expects." [x] / [x]
Yet the narrative in the media and from Ferrari themselves is that his motivation is bad and he's not assertive. It was so pervasive that to this day people still parrot it and say he just didn’t care after 2007, despite Kimi always stating he was fully committed and clearly getting annoyed whenever journalists asked about his motivation even years later.
Montezemolo at the end of 2008 even 'joked' that "Kimi in the recent races was replaced two or three times by a friend, but next year he'll be back." Basically saying that Kimi wasn't really present, you know? An interesting thing to say when this absent driver scored 18 points in the last 3 races (three consecutive P3s), while the one who was amazing and had the team's full backing scored 20 (P7, P2, P1).
A whole 2 points' difference, maybe someone should hire that "friend"...
So why did they do this?
Well, the theory is that Santander (I promise this isn’t like the dumb Sainztander takes) wanted a Spanish-Brazilian lineup due to financial interests (Spanish bank, big market in South America with a looming IPO in Brazil), so Kimi was basically being pressured out of the team from early 2008 onwards. Like I said at the start, the team weren’t really throwing away 2008, as they expected to win the WCC with both drivers (they did) and Massa to be able to win the WDC, which would of course be beneficial for their new sponsor. And he almost did. Almost.
[x] they're not in charge of driver selection but this specific driver line-up would good for them. (this archived copy of the article is from 2010, but the text makes it clear it's from 2009)
Of course at this point we have to wonder if a team like Ferrari would bow down to a sponsor's demands. I can't tell you what the internal considerations were or how much money was on the line, but it's also not like Santander were telling them to get rid of Kimi for a bad driver, you know? Fernando is a great driver, so from Ferrari's perspective they were just trading a great driver for another great driver who also appealed to this huge sponsor, and an Alonso-Massa line-up would be solid. And with the previous talk that Ferrari and Alonso had already inked a deal in 2008... It's just difficult to believe there isn't a grain of truth here.
So the alleged initial plan of having Alonso in 2009 was foiled when Kimi activated the renewal option in his contract. It was then that he was bought out of his last year (apparently paid for by Santander).
[from the book The Unknown Kimi Raikkonen]
As we can see, by the end Kimi was also fed up with what was going on, especially people pointing the finger at him and at his motivation, and his frustration is very clear in interviews like here at 2.35 and here:
Publicly, Ferrari said they wanted someone more in line with how Michael used to be (ironic since Montezemolo allegedly didn’t like how Michael made the team his), who could communicate with the team and give better feedback (ironic when Todt, Dyer, Stella and others said Kimi was very clear and precise.) Kimi himself has always stated that he wasn’t the issue, that his motivation was never lacking and that the real reason he was pushed out was politics and money.
[x]
[x]
If it had only been the mechanical stuff, I’d be willing to chalk it up to just bad luck and incompetence. Shit happens. But with all the rumours around it even before things went bad on the track and Kimi stating that his work and performance weren't the reason he was let go it becomes impossible for me to think there wasn’t an actual push going on to replace him.
Hell, even famed Ferrari fanboy Sebastian Vettel didn't think it was realistic for Kimi to return to Ferrary in 2014 precisely because Kimi isn't one for "bullshit" and "politics". Why would he choose to say that specifically? And according to Finnish media Kimi’s 2014 Ferrari negotiations included Montezemolo personally apologising to him. Now why would he apologise if they hadn’t done something wrong?
Personally I think Kimi's "certain people did certain things" refers to this. He never trashed anyone and always said he had no ill-feelings. And I believe him. But it doesn't mean nothing happened, lest we forget how well he handled Lotus not paying him.
The thing that really bothers me is that Kimi got the reputation for having low motivation and not caring about what he was doing (I heard that take just last month from an F1 youtuber, how Fernando was hired in 2010 because Kimi had mentally checked out 🙄), when obviously someone who wasn’t motivated and didn’t care would have simply called it quits under these circumstances. Instead he got P3 in the standings in 2008 (I know he’s talented, but he must have been trying at least a little), trained hard to lose enough weight to use KERS in 2009 (why would he do that if he didn’t care) and took the team’s only win that year despite the car being shit. Interestingly, pundits acknowledged his good performance complicated things when it came to Ferrari’s rumoured hiring of Alonso. So imagine how much more complicated things would have been had Kimi done better in 2008?
Anyway, this is long, but if you want something longer then I definitely recommend this post here. You might not agree completely with the original authors (there are parts where I wish there was more info), but I think they offer a lot of good research and information regarding the overall situation back in 2008/2009, and it's a good jump-off point for your own research.
But yeah. 2008 could have been everything. Or at least better.
#asks#i rambled and still didn't talk about a lot of stuff like michael favouring massa with development (the video shows it though)#or the Todt(Schumi-Brawn-Byrne)-Montezemolo power struggle#but you know that's just a theory. a film theo--- jk jk#if i missed out any links i'll add them as soon as i can. i have 70 tabs open :') some printed media can only be sourced second hand...#and ofc some claims will never have non-fan/rumour sources. otherwise it would be fact and not a conspiracy theory ;)#i tried to keep it to just some examples and screenshots. if you google you'll find plenty of more examples and info#every time i edit this it pushes the Read More cut further down what the hell....#posted and just found the first mistake. it was a front row start in monaco08 sorry! look i'm tired.... wall text lol#and i also realise i didn't post any examples of nando fanning the flames but he did lol... look it's late.....#reminder i love michael and kimi and nando#133th edit: typos lol

Vulcan Fashion/Hair Insp
#I think I did something like this a few years ago??? so consider this an update that's easier on the eyes hehehe#star trek#vulcan fashion#ref#I think a lot of people associate Vulcans with minimalist no color but I've seen plenty of Vulcans#wearing color & patterns in their civilian clothes: T'Pol and T'Pau and Tuvok for example#and Sarek's fashion is quite gaudy with a lot of jewelry and intricate stitching#Also I think Vulcans would utilize a lot of headscarfs/headcoverings in their fashion because it's necessary on their planet#but sometimes they wear them purely for aesthetic reasons - like it's usually a component in an outfit even if it doesn't do anything#Feel free to reblog~!!!

Jesus oh my god...
Futurama's second episode of this season "Quids Game" was a punch in the guts. In a good way! It goes right on par with episodes like "Cold Warriors" and "Game of Tones": an exploration of Fry's childhood, this time through the lens of mean aliens making him relieve his 8th birthday party games - this time to the death!
I have a lot to say about this episode so buckle up!
Let's start off with some minor complains I have for this one, which are pacing, stakes, and Leela's characterization (in a particular scene).
The episode really flew by so fast, almost at a break-necking pace, and the games felt too short and jam-packed because of that. The emotional weight of the end of each game hits hard because with every one a beloved character dies. There managed to find the time to get the reaction for the major ones (Kif, Leela's parents and grandmother), which is great, but the episode moves so quickly and there is little more time to absorbed it all.
Though, about this issue, I wanna say that I often feel like episodes are either going by too fast or too slow the first time I watch them and it usually doesn't feel the same from a second watch onward. so this is really a minor one that might not even be an problem for me later on, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
moving on to stakes, with this I mean that I originally thought, before the episode aired, that the end goal of the death dame was that the winner would get a prize. A birthday gift for example, and it would have incentivized everyone to go on and even play dirty (which, in retrospect, seems like a really smart thing to put in! compare everyone trying to get an advantage to Fry absolutely refusing to cheat, and pack an even bigger punch with that ending). I suppose playing to survive is motivation enough, but I think it undermines the "wants" of most other characters, and since this was a big coral episode (which is absolutely a strength! I can only imagine how hard it must have been to put together, wow!) I would have loved to see them striving to win, guess what their “birthday wish” would have been, maybe even learn a few of them along the way.
The third iffy thing I want to mention is Leela in the scene in the kitchen. There are seven characters left in the competition and only four baseballs to find to win the round. Leela is panicking trying to find one and she begs fry to cheat and find it for her since he already played when he was a kid and knows the house. Now this conflict was SO good and ALMOST perfect, but whyyyy oh why was Leela so ready to leave Fry behind??? doesn't make sense to me??? I know she was scared and upset bc she had just lost her family and that probably pushed her to act irrationally, but I just can't see her only wanting to keep herself alive and not Fry, especially when an easier and stronger solution is RIGHT THERE.
Have Leela go to Fry already with one of the baseball (that she might have found in some crawled and ridiculous place, to show how desperate she is to win and survive. if you have the wish giving stakes it's even better because you can imagine she'd use her gift to bring her parents back). in the meantime, the other characters find two other balls so there is only one left, and NOW Leela begs Fry to cheat to find the last one and win with her. It's even more emotional, Leela tells him she doesn't want to lose him too but Fry categorically doesn't want to cheat, and in the end tells Leela to win without him, sacrificing himself for her. Bender finds the last ball in the fridge and the episode continues just like we saw (with Bender tossing the ball to someone else right before being pulverized lol. like I said, Bender should be cheating like MAD in these games, really drive home the concept).
I wanna make it clear that these complains don't really turn me off from the whole episode, they are just my free flow of thoughts on stuff that i thought could have been stronger.
But now for the meat. This episode was phenomenal!!! so much good Fry's family characterization and SO much to unpack for Fry as a character. Cody Ziglar has such a spot on take on Fry, it was so validating seeing this episode and putting together all the little pieces of Fry's psyche I’ve picking out for years now, converging into one.
It seems superficial at first glance, but this really runs deeper than it looks. Fry has always been earnest but insecure, proven and proven again in countless episodes. You expect a person goofy and easygoing like Fry to go ham at his birthday and celebrate with all the people he loves, but we find out Fry doesn't like his birthday and feels bad about being put at the center of attention, and it all goes deeper and more upsetting from there.
Adding to all of this and speaking about Fry’s parents, especially his mom, I wanna add that it’s such a realistic conflict it was painful to watch – she wanted to give her son the chance to be a winner, she had no idea how the situation would turn against him. Sometimes a good day of parenting could be the kid’s most terrible experience of his life, and that’s brutal but the parent meant well even if they ruined things for their kid. It’s so sad Fry never got to see how much his mom and dad did for him, and she wanted him to feel like a winner, but this isn’t a story with an easy resolution. It’s bittersweet and it's insane and this last scene ruined me fr, like just look at this what the hell
This exploration of Fry goes hand in hand with everything we know of him. it seamlessly adds another layer of understanding that I’m honestly not even sure I can unpack in a single post, because there is so much to say and draw conclusions from, starting from the very first episode and ending with Meanwhile. From his relationship with his parents and his brother, to his love life and friendships, from his view of himself as a loser to the way he's always striving to better himself while always staying true to himself, trying to achieve his goals the hard way instead of finding an easy way out. Think the why of Fry, Parasite Lost, TKOS, the sting, godfella, my three suns, BBS, cold warriors, and on and on and on. It’s building together a picture of Fry’s character that’s so complex and worth exploring.
With this episode we have a new fundamental facet of him, and for this alone it’s an amazing episode.
I’ll mail my therapy bill to the writers, thank you
And thank you for reading, let me know your thoughts and opinion, I wanna know what y’all thought about this episode

I feel like I can never be truly objective with this show#but it’s an 8 ½ for me#same as Game of Tones for example. so like to me a futurama 8 is extremely high#But I have to save my 9 and 10s for the real godtear stuff - because again futurama has those and they’re plenty lol#So yeah good episode really good episode

the irony of people who have never sat in a single-seater calling F1 drivers with 10+ years worth of experience "shit drivers" is truly the peak example of human arrogance.

Every once in a while I stumble upon a bg3 artist whose work is amazing, it's just a bummer they have zero Minthara content. And I understand most would prefer to recruit her on a good playthrough, which I heavily encourage.
Then I take a look at their Tav and a dark part of me thinks "you know what, maybe it's for the best, I really think she'd rather die than have to deal with a Tav who fancies themselves camp therapist."
