it's been like half a year but I'm still thinking about what a queer teen mood Darcy's outfit was in this pic. The rainbow scrunchie. The nb shirt. The pan tie-dye. It's such a mood to go "I don't care if they clash or not, heck I don't even care if I personally identify as all of these, they're all pride flag themed, and I WILL wear them together to show how aggressively queer I am".

And on a more somber note it's the fact that clothes like these are subtle enough that your parents/any adults you're closeted to probably won't notice (which if I recall right Darcy was still closeted to parents who she Knew weren't fully safe to come out to). And if they did ask her about any of those clothes individually she still had the plausible deniability of saying she just "liked the color scheme" like I'm sure many of us have said to cover up pride flag colored belongings before. But to other queer people? To her supportive and loving queer friend group? And most importantly to herself? They all know it's queer-themed, and they're the only ones who truly need to recognize it as queer.

And that's all that matters.

i don't have a point here except ???, but i realized today that starsky & hutch episode the psychic a) was written by micheal mann of (among many other things) classic crime thriller heat fame, and b) contains a baffling amount of (references to) crossdressing. it's one of the two episodes that opens with starsky and hutch chasing a guy in a dress (which gives us the "well i don't know, you('d) look rather nice in basic black and pearls" starsky-to-hutch line), later on they interrupt a robbery being committed by ANOTHER guy in a dress (and grey wig, posing as an old lady - presumably with the intent to disguise his identity rather than express some part of it, but who knows), and THEN they meet a hot lady mechanic who among many fast lines says to starsky "i'm really a basketball player in drag. whatever turns you on, honey" (interestingly timely, considering starsky's earlier comment about hutch). and finally, not entirely related but also not unrelated, there's these people at a laundromat hutch hits up on his mad phone chase at the end of the episode:

well, naomi's crime was basically solved on my other blog, so i felt like it wouldn't make sense to try and make it sound more mysterious than it actually is, haha. she's still a very interesting character to me though and i'm excited to see how her trial goes.

Eiji: You haven't mentioned Asahi though.

Eiji: Don't you think it's weird that he's here, since, you know, he's a child?

Naomi: Kids can be very cruel too, Eiji-san.

Naomi: Of course, a lot of prisoners here are children. Akio-kun, Aimi-chan, Riku-kun..

Naomi: But.. um.. Asahi-kun definitely seems like the type of child who is not as pure and innocent as you'd expect a child to be.

Eiji: It's like you had to deal with kids like that in the past.

Naomi: I love kids, I really do, but some of them..

Naomi: .. Can be more evil than any adults.

Naomi: And yes, usually people say that it's okay for children to do horrible things, because again, they're children, they don't understand what they're doing!

Naomi: But that's exactly what makes them so evil.

Naomi: We always say that adults are responsible for what they've done even if they didn't know better, but why do we go easy on children?

Miki: Um.. because they're children?

Naomi: Miki-san, were you ever hurt by a child?

Naomi: And what about you, Eiji-san?

Miki: ...

Eiji: ...

Naomi: Think about it. Refusing to play with someone just because they're "different", making fun of someone for some stupid reason they've just made up, hurting someone and then blaming that person for everything..

Naomi: Children are capable of all those things.

Naomi: I can tell that you two have met children like that before.

Miki: H-how do you know that?..

Naomi: You two are still children in my eyes. I know that a child had to go through something horrible when I look at them.

Naomi: I had to help a lot of my students. Some of them were abused by their own family, some of them were bullied by their classmates, some of them were simply ignored by everyone.

Naomi: And I can tell that you were just like them when you were younger.

Naomi: I'll tell you more, I feel like one of you is still really angry at that child who hurt them in the past, meanwhile the other one..

Naomi: Feels like they were that child who hurt someone very badly when they were younger.

Naomi: They would be okay with that. Even my victim's family would be okay with that.

Naomi: So, please.. Tell me I'm guilty.

Naomi: I will tell you everything you want to know about my crime. Just promise that you won't forgive me like everyone else did.

Eiji: Oh, you don't have to worry about that.
