Limits (Don’t Forget to Take Your Meds)

Hero and Villain were fighting on top of a building, and—admittedly—Hero wasn’t doing so hot.

Their heart was beating too fast, and they wanted nothing more than to sink to their knees right there on the rooftop. They were breathing hard but it wasn’t enough, their heart kept picking up speed and the oxygen didn’t seem to be reaching their head.

They blocked clumsily and Villain stepped back, flicking his wrist in a circular motion in an attempt to show off.

The display was lost on Hero, however, because Villain’s sword was no longer the only thing on the roof that was spinning. Hastily, they caught themselves before almost stumbling.

They tried to keep it from showing on their face, but somewhere in the past few seconds they must have failed because Villain stopped and let his weapon arm fall to his side.

“Hero?” He questioned.

Hero pressed their lips together, too scared to open their mouth in fear of the nausea that was swimming over them. They blinked, and he was closer, hand coming up to press against the pulse point of their wrist.

He shook his head at the rapid pounding he felt beneath their skin.

“Did you take your meds today?”

If Hero didn’t know better, his question would almost seem to hold the same condescension of a parent scolding a child who obviously hadn’t taken the time to think through their actions before getting upset.

“Of course I- oh.”

Hero visibly deflated.

“You really need to set an alarm or something,” Villain scolded.

“I have one!” Hero spoke defensively, “It’s just…I woke up and my cat was yelling and I had to get up and feed her but I just felt so bad-”

“Go home, Hero.”

Hero fumbled, “Seriously? I can’t just-”

“Yes, you can,” Villain interrupted. “In fact, I won’t allow you to do anything else.”

“No, no it’s fine,” Hero tried to argue, “I can-“

Push through, they didn’t get to finish.

“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Surely you know this isn’t safe,” he leveled them with a look the hero wasn’t clear-headed enough to feel the full effect of.

His next statement was threatening, and Hero found themselves taken aback.

“Do you really want to flare?”

They couldn’t stop their lips from parting in surprise.

No one had ever understood like that, never told them they needed and were allowed to rest, aggressively or otherwise.

He made it sound so…simple.

Hero thought of the consequences of trying to fight Villain right now. There simply wasn’t enough ibuprofen in the world to make up for the symptoms that would follow. They really didn’t want to end up stuck in bed for days, not when there were plenty of less courteous villains that could decide to destroy the city at any time.

Their shoulders sagged in defeat. They knew what they needed to do but…

But it hurt, accepting their limits. They supposed that was their heroic pride talking, but part of them knew it was more than that.

It was shame, and it was anger. Anger that they were trapped in a body that couldn’t keep up with them. Shame because resting felt like giving up.

They followed the villain’s lead, laying down their weapon with shaking hands.

They were, as many people were, always told, “a real hero never gives up.”

A real hero, they thought now, knows how to pick their battles.

And they knew a fight with their body would never be one they could win.

Emilio posts about his life a lot, not to Cater levels of constant posting but enough to pretend to be the influencer that he isn’t. Travel photos, latte art, anything really. But his follower size is decent and boosted by Kalim, but to be fair, Kalim follows ALL of his fellow dorm-mates if he can help it. (Featuring Emilio’s cousin Marisol ooo~ she’s been mentioned before and teased but SURPRISE! full face reveal on a random post 😳 IS THAT ELEN—- ) Lots of his family follow him there.

Cecil has two accounts, an empty one for lurking (and keeping up with school related things, it’s just his actual name) and one solely about his raven familiar Oleander, or “Ollie” being cute. He never posts himself or about himself. His follower count is low for Magicam standards, but he doesn’t really care. Lilia likes every single post.

Nyoka, being somewhat of a prominent figure thanks to his notable family hardly makes personal posts at all and never leaves captions or tags. He only posts if it’s from like… an interview or professional photoshoot of some kind and thanking whomever it was that conducted it. He has enough followers to be verified, so the lack of hashtags doesn’t really matter. The comments are full of—-

I just can NOT get over the whole Sebastian wanting to do a play with Chris thing, you guys. I know it's just a hypothetical at this point, but even just the concept is just so incredible? Like, Sebastian wasn't even prompted into bringing up Chris, he just did, like he'd just been waiting for an opportunity to do so. And then he says he wants to do a Broadway play with Chris? Even implies he's talked to him about it, that he brought up the idea with him repeatedly and is just waiting for Chris to agree to do this with him? Like, it might actually happen?

And what I maybe love most is that this means Sebastian has given this a LOT of thought. He's been going about his life, doing his busy important movie star thing, and meanwhile he's been thinking about Chris, and about how much he wants to work with him again, and how he wants to do this specific play with him that he loves, because he thinks they'd be great in it together. But at the same time, he admits that he'd basically do any play with Chris, as long as they get to work together again. He could've said he wanted to work with anybody, any of his former co-stars, all those people we know he's still friendly with because anyone who works with Sebastian falls a little bit platonically in love with him and vice versa, but no, he specifically says Chris Evans. Out of everyone he's worked with, he wants to work with Chris again for this, he's trying to get him, they're doing this, goddammit.

And another amazing implication of all this, imo: even though Sebastian's been very vocal about rejecting the idea that some people have that they get to tell him what to do and influence his life somehow just because he's famous (about which is absolutely right, by the way) -- he just kind kind of seems to forget all about that in the moment he decides to call on people's help to convince Chris to say yes to his idea. As though achieving that particular goal is more important than all of that other stuff lmao.

And listen, I know he's just messing around, and deep down he knows full well that we don't have any means to contact Chris anyway, and Chris is very good at protecting his peace these days so he's not going to be seriously bothered by anyone about this, but still, the fact is that Sebastian literally told us all to bother Chris, text him, DM him, make posters and send them to him, anything to get through to him and make him see the light. Like, Sebastian wants this bad. AND he knows that there are lots of people out there who would love to see him and Chris reuniting, on stage this time, and he's cunningly using that fact to get what he wants. It's kind of incredible. I just can't get over it, guys.

like i’ve said time and time again, i haven’t watched bbc merlin in years but i was just wondering when the first time merlin called arthur by his name to his face and im scrolling thru the transcripts on the fandom wiki (supposedly it was s1ep4 btw) and im skimming the script for all these episodes and getting angrier and angrier. gaius was wrong for all that. morgana deserved so much better. edwin muirden was valid as hell (for targeting uther AND gaius. yeah. i said it.). also kilgharrah ate with that one lil line “then turn a blind eye. that is, after all, your talent” okay lizard brain pop offff.

"WFA is a bad way to get into comics"

WFA is easily accessible and free to read (for the most part) and doesn't require decades of comics history to understand.

YES IT FLATTENS THE CHARACTERS. YES IT'S GIGGLY HOO-HAH FOR THE FUNNIES. YES IT'S A BAD PRIMARY SOURCE TO BASE EVERYONE'S PERSONALITIES OFF OF IN THE LONG RUN. BUT ALSO: ANY WAY THAT GETS YOU INTO COMICS IS A GOOD WAY TO GET INTO COMICS.

Jesus fucking christ you people sound like gamer elitists. "Phone games aren't real games" "minecraft, stardew, animal crossing, and other sim games aren't real gaming" or like those gatekeeping music fans "people who only listen to this band's one album aren't REAL fans."

Look, if reading the silly little webcomic makes you interested in the characters and you decide to read more and delve in, then it's a GREAT way to start to "get into" comics, even if it's not remotely canon! Just like the cartoons are a great way to start even when they're non canon or flatten characters or remove certain iterations from continuity entirely (gestures at the older DCAU that mashed Tim & Jason together also Barry & Wally)

You should also consider that the ages of the target audience as to why characters are portrayed a certain way. WFA is rated Teen

Besides, it's a DC-licensed product. Whether you like it or not it is OFFICIAL content, even if it's not mainline canon.

It's just a shame...I was discussing this with @strawberrynoir like the opps have a point. Black companions are given safe personalities pretty consistently. Preston, Wyll, Jacob, Liam, Davrin. All nice charming do-gooders, and it's not super compelling (to me, the freak-lover, the grime-chaser, the slime rancher).

As many problems as I had with Vivienne's execution I do appreciate the fact she wasn't completely inoffensive. 😭

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth regarding representation & inclusion but its gotten to a point I'd rather they just not be there at all than be underserved and underutilized
