Some semi-regular reminders.

I'm not Viv! I know her name is in the username, but I'm just a fan gathering all of her art into one place so it's more easily accessible. This blog is not official in any capacity and I have no connection to Viv herself or Spindlehorse.

I am also not a machine. When you submit requests, please try to use full sentences and treat me like a human being. Sending an ask that has nothing but the subject you're requesting makes me feel I'm being treated like a generator. Try to avoid asks that just say "2000s art" or "alastor" or "zoophobia." I tend to ignore these. I'm more than happy to take requests (I actually enjoy it) but please treat me with respect.

I do not respond to messages that just say "hi." If you want to contact me, please come with a prepared request, question, or subject. I won't be offended by you launching straight into what you're contacting me about. The reason most people do not respond to messages that just say "hi" is because it doesn't provide any insight into your reason for contacting. You also risk looking like a bot. It's always best to say hi + what you're messaging about.

This is also a reminder that this is a fan blog. I will block you if you expose my blog to communities or tags dedicated to anti or critical stances.

I'm neither a stan nor an anti. I'm a very, very average fan who likes to sit alone in the corner, organizing my blocks. This blog is not here for the glorification or damnation of Viv or her work. It's only here to catalogue the artwork of a specific artist and her IPs. Occasionally, I may give my personal opinion and it may be positive because, again, I am a fan.

But there are no ulterior motives. It's not here to convince anyone of anything. It's only real purpose is to provide me with things to sort and tag which makes my weird little brain happy.

All policies I follow regarding avoidance of discourse (such as blocking) are for my own comfort and peace of mind and aren't meant to be personal offenses or a statement about anything in particular. I spend a lot of time on this blog, so I will make it a comfortable place to be for me first and foremost. That's all.

And while I might do this because it's fun for me, it's always nice to feel appreciated. So, thank you all for the kind asks I receive thanking me for creating this blog. While I don't post them to keep from cluttering the archive, I appreciate every one I get! ♡

True! The Beatles tried with Magical Mystery Tour but we all know how influential that was (no one talks about it) But also I'm sure y'all know A Hard Day's Night is what inspired the Monkees at all in the first place.

I do really think though there's merit to comparing and contrasting Head and MMT (I'm not writing the whole thing I'm sorry) though so with my super vague memories I'll do that.

Ok the scenes that match up the most to me are the objectifying women scenes, but I want to point something out. Can You Dig It in addition to being a fucking fire ass song, is not too objectifying in the grand scheme of things. Belly dancers come on, vibe, and hang out with the Monkees. Fun drug trip. (Also no gif for this scene, I looked man)

MMT, you get to go to a strip club. No fucking reason, shit's off the rails. Boobs everywhere. I'm not kidding either, and we don't get to see Jan Carson strip to a Beatles song. Those vibes are very weird and there's a big reason why no one talks about it. It also serves as a really fascinating piece of history I guess.

Probably tied are obviously Circle Sky and Your Mother Should Know in terms of most similar visual presentation too. The boys got the white suits, they're performing, it's fun.

Your Mother Should Know is also a bop, which is kinda rare for me to say about the Beatles don't kill me please. The rhythm and tone reminds me of Cuddly Toy (hey my username :p) and there's very much a lightness to it. I think they threw it in because they needed something for the fans to vibe to after not knowing wtf is happening for half the movie. Fun, cute, not overplayed. (You could argue Daddy's Song also is a good candidate especially musically, but I decided to do visual elements of both, and I've written a lot about Daddy's Song on here. I want to do something else)

Circle Sky is like the song everyone loves for good reason. Mike sounds fucking awesome singing it, and I feel his voice on this track is what americana means to me. This song with the country rock energy with the drums and shit is unapologetically American to its core and the touches of country that the Monkees have in other albums is perfected. I have to restrain myself from singing CIRCLE SKY at max volume along with Mike whenever I put this on in public. Coupled with the commentary of how they were products to be consumed rabidly by fans, I think this is a fan favorite for good reason.

In short, I feel Magical Mystery Tour has some highlights (Blue Jay Way, Your Mother Should Know, Fool on The Hill) but it's just weird because they had the money to be weird at this point in their lives. Head is to me a much more thoughtful movie, and I love the whole soundtrack. Was it career ending for them? Arguably yes. But it was a beautiful ending and I'm so glad people know about it and are appreciating what it brought to the table.

Here's the ref for my Spongebob s/i! I'm sadly not very good at mimicking artstyles, but I hope this looks decent enough anyways.

Sadie is a new-er resident to Bikini Bottom. She met Spongebob a couple of weeks after getting hired at Goofy Goober's. They impressed him by whipping up a large ice cream sundae, made with flavors Spongebob never even knew he'd enjoy together. The pair became fast friends and hang out often. I need to come up with a design for her house, and maybe make a chart for how she gets along with the rest of the show's cast. I hope you guys like what I have so far!

these eyes are genuinely so funny to me. they can't be by the same entity that made the original: a human artist would draw them in a style matching the portrait, and an image generator would either do that, or generate something more photorealistic

so im trying to figure out the thought process here. was it an artistic flair to feel like they 'made' the art? to try and beat the ai allegations? or just to make it more 'tma'-y? did op truly not see the vast difference in style between them and the rest of the image?

I'm not actually worried about them getting beaten up by the others or anything, just resigning myself to one more deep sigh if the endgame turns out to be less about bh and more about everyone else's reaction to whatever they do, even if it's positive. it's been probably easier to fall into a negative spiral about it as someone who has only watched this campaign while trying to not get bitter about the others or sour the experience by reading hate …which meant I've also missed out on more balanced takes like yours, oops

I’ve taken it upon myself to log back in to my old @thelegendcreator account. I only have four emails, should be easy to find which one I made the OG with, right?

Wrong. I have checked every email. I have reset so many passwords. Not only can I not find that account, I also apparently have two accounts I don’t remember making. I mean, it was definitely me who made them, based on the blog titles, but I don’t remember them.

Eventually, I thought to myself “Hmm, maybe I used my iCloud account?” So I tried it. Nope. Then I realized the original “you’ve been logged out” email was sent to a completely different email, so I tried that too. Zilch. Those two didn’t even register in the system.

My aunt is the one who logged me out in the first place, but I’ve asked her for the new password before, and it’s been so long that she doesn’t remember. And, now that I really think back on it, I’m pretty sure she changed the email to hers too. So fuck me I guess.

Anyway, if you have ever publicly mocked what is very clearly a vent post made by someone trying to articulate their feelings on their personal issues, particularly if you have done it to their face or without censoring their username, I think you should reflect on how you engage with other frames of experience and why your first instinct is to CinemaSins ding them for a short-lived and illusory sense of superiority. It's a very shallow attitude.
