'M*A*S*H' star Loretta Swit says costar Jamie Farr 'still makes me laugh' 41 years after show’s wrap
Swit played Major Margaret 'Hot Lips' Houlihan on the hit series from 1972 to 1983

Loretta Swit still has a soft spot for her "M*A*S*H" costar Jamie Farr.
The actress, who played Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan on the hit series from 1972 to 1983, opened up about her deep connection with Farr, who portrayed Corporal Maxwell Q. Klinger, 41 years after the show's wrap.
"[Jamie] still makes me laugh and keeps me connected to that piece of my heart that brought so much joy to millions of viewers," she said in a new interview with First for Women. The two friends still often participate in autograph signings throughout the country.
Tumblr media
Reflecting on the show's major success, Swit credits it to the cast's on- and off-screen chemistry.
"Everyone liked coming to work," she said. "The camaraderie was unlike anything I ever experienced because we were all connected deeply. The chemistry was real, and the energy everyone brought to the set was off the charts, which was a part of the reason the show developed a huge/loyal fan base."
Laughter was also important for the show.
"Laughter and humor were our defense against standing in blood and working on bodies that were young enough to be in school," she said. "You needed the funniest people in the world to make this believable, and this cast exceeded that and more."
Tumblr media
"M*A*S*H," which followed a team of doctors stationed in Korea during the Korean War, won 14 Emmy Awards throughout its 11-season run.
"Initially, when we started out, everyone wondered how we were going to be able to pull off a comedy about the war, but we did," Swit said.
In 2023, Swit opened up to Fox News Digital about how her character's nickname, "Hot Lips," has since stuck with her all these years.
"I understand nicknames come with great love and admiration for a character," the star explained. "But it was an insult as far as I was concerned. She wasn’t just a piece of anatomy. She was a major in the United States Army, and she should not be disrespected."
Tumblr media
"This was a woman who had rank, who worked hard and wanted to be good at her job," Swit shared. "She was an inspiration. I was proud of her. I was proud to represent all the service women out there. I wanted to make a change."
Swit said she was also proud of being part of the celebrated show, so much so that she was worried the nickname would overshadow the heroic efforts of real-life service women, belittling them to a punchline.
"I didn’t want those women to be disrespected," the actress reflected. "Obviously, people are going to see it differently. Margaret did not see [the nickname] as a compliment. She saw it as disrespect. So, yes, I would say it was never a comfort zone."
These days, Swit continues her activism through her charity, SwitHeart Animal Alliance, and creating art.
In 2017, she published "SwitHeart: The Watercolor Artistry & Animal Activism of Loretta Swit," a book made up of 65 watercolor paintings and 22 photographs that also include personal stories.

Re:Kinder Fun Facts of the day☺️!!! Have you ever wondered who talks the most from the main cast in Re:Kinder?? Well, I did😊. Today I'll be answering this question with some graphs and as a bonus telling you what words each character uses the most! I will warn you, this will be a bit long and I don't know how to be less verbose so, yeah!!!
First, I've made some basic rules as to what I counted regarding how much the characters speak. Not all lines really count as speaking, after all.
Any of the incoherent screaming lines don't count. There's a lot of screaming since the characters die a lot (as expected for a horror RPG game), but I don't really count that as speaking unless they're saying proper words. In that same vein, I didn't really count any of the panting or sniffing and such that are conveyed through words. Again, I don't really see that as a character actively speaking their thoughts!
If I cannot tell who a line belongs to, I will not give it to anyone. This happens for certain lines, so I felt this rule was important.
I won't be counting repetitions of the same line if it's on a variation of the same scene. This may sound a bit strange, but when a character dies, the game goes on to the same next scene it would regardless (unless the scene that follows it is an ending), with variations and new lines here and there to account for the dead character, but a lot will be reused and placed in the exact same beats it normally would have been in originally. So, this rule is here for that. Oh, and also the scenes with bits of Yuuichi's backstory that appear in Shunsuke's head won't be counted twice, because some appear twice line by line.
Of course, the "..." lines won't count. I am so sorry Aya!!!!😞
Now that the ground rules have been set, there's just one thing I want to mention. Though I will count all the total lines for Takumi and Yuuichi like any other character, I just want to mention that first I will have two separate counts for them! Takumi | Takumiel and Yuuichi | Yuuichi's Heart respectively.
Takumiel is separate because I was curious about how much Takumi spoke as an archangel compared to when he was alive. Yuuichi's Heart is because he speaks so much he feels notable enough to be given his own division, even if he and Yuuichi at the end of the day are one person
(I count the silly mind telepathy where Shunsuke is being directly spoken to [and being told things normal Yuu would avoid saying at that point] and the comical theater as Yuuichi's Heart. I clarify in case one assumes he only starts being counted the moment he's directly labelled as Yuuichi's Heart. Any line that can't be distinguished between Yuuichi's Heart and Yuuichi will be given to Yuuichi by default.)
With nothing else to be clarified let's get to the numbers!!!😊😊
Tumblr media
First, the line counts with Takumiel and Yuuichi's Heart counted individually!! Here are the rankings:
Shunsuke (With a lead of 535 lines over second place!!)
Yuuichi
Rei
Yuuichi's Heart
Hiroto
Ryou
Sayaka
Aya
Takumi
Takumiel
You may be thinking— woah, does Shunsuke really speak that much?! You could say that, for a good chunk of those lines are from how he describes interactable points around the map and his inner thoughts, so they aren't all exactly said out loud. The benefit of being the protagonist, I suppose ww
Funny enough, Yuuichi's Heart has almost as many lines as Yuuichi does for not having that much time in the game, being on the higher end between the characters that don't get the benefit of being a protagonist (lol)!
Admittedly I had expected for Rei and Hiroto to have a more similar amount of lines given their nearly equal amount of presence, but for what it is Rei surpassed Hiroto by 51 lines! I also had expected for Takumiel to speak a little bit more than Takumi but turns out the opposite is true.
While the lack of lines of Takumi and Takumiel are to be expected due to their short time on the game, what stands out is Aya not even reaching triple digits between her other peers who are in there for most of the game. This is because a good chunk of Aya's lines in game are silence!^^" And thus weren't counted. If ellipses were a word, she surely would have reached triple digits, but unfortunately they're not.
Tumblr media
Now the line count with combined sums of Takumi | Takumiel and Yuuichi | Yuuichi's Heart!!!
In here, the ranking isn't affected, with Yuuichi remaining second place and Takumi being last place. But the disparity of everyone's numbers compared to Takumi's feels a bit more clear to see when Takumiel isn't individually counted.
With Yuuichi's line counts combined, Shunsuke remains 318 lines ahead of him, but it also means Yuuichi has a 59% the amount of Shunsuke's lines; and impressive feat for someone who doesn't get the benefit of being the point of view for everything you press... Although he does also have an upper hand over everyone by essentially being the plot of this game ww
But maybe line counts do not suffice to tell how much a character speaks. Yes, Shunsuke has a bunch of lines from everything he interacts with, but is it really reliable to say he speaks all that much in all those lines? A good chunk of those could easily have 3 words each! So with this in mind, let's do a word count.
Tumblr media
Even in a word count, Shunsuke has the lead, having a lead of 2,247 words over second place. But we'll see about that when we combine Yuuichi's numbers. Anyway, here's the ranking!
Shunsuke
Yuuichi's Heart
Yuuichi
Rei
Hiroto
Ryou
Sayaka
Aya
Takumi
Takumiel
This time, Yuuichi's Heart is the one at second place!!! It's pretty funny that he speaks more than his physical counterpart ww. I genuinely didnt think he'd out yap himself that way when I chose to count for him individually 😭!!! He has a lead of 63 words over himself, but a lead nonetheless.
In here, Rei and Hiroto are more even than in the line counts, with the difference seeming more minimal when put into words. But it also showcases that despite Rei having more lines than Yuuichi's Heart in the line count, those only get to have a bit over half of the amount of words he talks (To be fair he does get to infodump a lot in his section of the game).
And here's the combined word count!!! Suddenly Shunsuke's lead is only by a mere 55 words! So Yuuichi speaks about as much as he does with 318 less lines.
Tumblr media
I must admit that I genuinely did not expect it to be that close. When I chose to count the lines for when you interact with things for Shunsuke, I thought he was granted to speak an absurd amount more than anyone else. But turns out that Yuuichi speaks about the same amount out loud when most of Shunsuke's are his own thoughts ww. But it does make sense! He is still the plot of this game.
So, after all those charts, here's the average/middle point of lines and words for characters to have, because why not, it's fun.
Average Line Count (YH and Takumiel counted individually): 197 lines
Average Line Count (When combined): 247 lines
Average Word Count (YH and Takumiel counted individually): 1,333 words
Average Word Count (When combined): 1,666 words
So there it is. That's how much the characters in Re:Kinder speak!
But wait!!! I am not done. I will share with you an additional fun fact... Did you ever want to know what word each of these characters said the most?! This one will be quicker, I do promise.
When it came to counting these words I did not count stop words, that being common words that are used all the time by everyone in English. "I, you, me, the, to, a, my, your, yes, no"... Words like that! Otherwise everyone would have one of those as their most said word and it'd be rather boring to look at. With that said, here are the words these characters say the most!
Shunsuke: Yuuichi - said 40 times! (this genuinely confused me so much im sorry he uses interjections so much I had expected it to be something like "huh" or "um" but no i dont know how this passed by me as i was rounding up all the lines he says or proofreading or writing all of those lines WHAT?!?! its been two days and it still takes me out)
Ryou: Shunsuke - Said 14 times
Sayaka: Murderer - Said 7 times (All in one sentence!)
Takumi | Takumiel (counted in one for how little he speaks.): Takumiel - Said 3 times (That name is so important, he said it thrice.)
Aya: Sorry - Said 5 times
Rei: Hell, gonna, look, Yuuchi - said 8 times (Most of the repeated words she says are stop words for she doesn't tend to speak about the same things repeatedly.)
Hiroto: Shunsuke - Said 17 times
Yuuichi (separate from YH): Problem - Said 17 times
Yuuichi's Heart: Mama - Said 24 times
Yuuichi (Overall): Mama - Said 31 times
So that is finally it. That is the fun fact of today.😊😊 Use this to woe your friends at parties!!!
I am aware Mami speaks about enough to be counted in, but this is pretty time consuming to do and I'm not sure anyone is invested on her enough to count her in. But if there's enough curiosity regarding that, I'll try counting her in. But for now this suffices.☺️ Thanks for reading!
#re:kinder#rekinder#not art#fun fact!!!#i talk!!!#ive been at this for... two days how yall doing😊#ive thought of doing this since when i started by transcript of rekinder but i wasnt ready to do that after finishing that beast of a scrip#so here it is later than i anticipated! it is more time-consuming than i thought considering i have the benefit of the transcript#so when i was getting to doing mami i was already tired ww 😭 love her but this is just a silly bonus thing i throw out#so im not as ready to spend more than the several hours i already spent than with other funny silly proyects#i have more things i want to work on more😊!!! and also the semester is ending soon ww#ANYWAYYY#THIS WAS FUN THOUGH!!!#originally i wasnt going to count the things you can interact with for shunsuke but they are so obviously said by him i just had to#I WAS GOING TO IGNORE IT BUT THEN MY CONSCIOUSNESS TOLD ME... NO.... YOURE ROBBING HIM OF PERFECTLY FINE LINES!!!! 💔💔#so now his numbers are absurdly high#i still cant believe he said yuuichi more than huh i cannot believe that . like. he says huh 5 times less BUT STILL#i really wrote a whole transcript proofread it for 30+ hours then went back to do a line count for several more hours#and didnt notice the protagonist of this game said the name of my favorite character a million times#I NOTICED A “HUH” MORE THAN A NAME COME ONBRUEJWJFNNW#i dont really make any comments regarding ryou or sayaka in here as much because their numbers are exactly as i had expected#about the same amount not too much... its nothing groundbreaking to make a comment out just saying#if anyone is curious yuu says vamos cantar only 6 times#no one's most said word is particularly surprising to me after shunsuke but i did have a stroke seeing problem pop up for yuu#the document i was writing all of this info in before doing this post was very tidy and organized very well articulated until thay happened#i was perfectly expecting him to mention one of his parents the most overall but when separated from Yuuichi’s heart i did not knwo what#so when problem popped up my gut reaction was thinking that i wasnt making it to the end of the document no one speak to me i felt#IT . IT MAKES SENSE but it isnt fun💔#i wasnt even going to count yuuichis heart most said word until he out yapped himself admittedly#I SEPARATED HIM FROM USUAL YUU FOR THE LOLS I DIDNT THINK HE'D SPEAK THAT MUCH

Grocery Run with Dr. Robby
Dr. Robby had just finished a particularly long shift when he overheard you chatting with Dana in the break room, laughing as you talked about your plans to go grocery shopping after work. You had been on your feet all day, but you always made sure to get your errands done.
Robby, who had long been struggling with his own lack of meal planning, perked up at the mention of shopping. He wasn’t one to ask for help often, but today was different. As the conversation wrapped up, he casually approached you, leaning against the doorframe with a thoughtful expression.
“Hey, I couldn’t help but overhear… are you really going grocery shopping after your shift?” he asked, his tone light but with a hint of hope.
You looked at him, a little surprised, as Dana slipped away with a wink. Robby scratched the back of his neck, trying to play it cool.
“Well, the thing is,” he started, “I don’t have much food left in my house. Would you, uh, mind if I tagged along? I could use some help picking out things that aren’t just takeout menus or instant noodles.”
You paused for a moment, your curiosity piqued by the idea of grocery shopping with Dr. Robby, of all people. He was always professional and serious in the hospital, but you’d never seen this side of him before.
“Sure, why not?” you said, shrugging with a smile.
As you both entered the store, Robby immediately seemed a little out of his element. He followed you down the aisles, taking in the variety of products with wide eyes, as if everything was a new discovery.
“So,” he said, holding up a jar of peanut butter and reading the label like it was a medical textbook, “what exactly is the difference between creamy and crunchy? Is one healthier than the other?”
You chuckled, picking up a jar of your own. “No difference in health. It’s all about preference.”
He nodded seriously, as if this was groundbreaking information, and then turned his attention to the cereal aisle. “And what’s the deal with all these options? I mean, it’s just… breakfast food, right?”
As you moved down the aisle, Robby kept asking more and more questions, from the best brand of milk to whether frozen vegetables were actually as good as fresh ones. His curiosity was endearing, and you couldn’t help but find yourself laughing at how genuine he was about everything.
He was different here—less the doctor, more just a guy trying to navigate the world of grocery shopping, and it was oddly charming.
“So,” he said, looking sheepish as he grabbed a packet of pre-made salads, “do you think this is… acceptable?”
You gave him an amused look. “It’s fine, Robby. But if you’re going to keep asking me about everything, I’m going to start charging you for grocery advice.”
He grinned at that. “Fair enough. But I’ll get you back with some life advice—like how to properly organize your fridge so nothing goes to waste.”
You both laughed as you made your way to the checkout, and for the first time, it didn’t feel like a typical grocery run. It felt like something a little more… fun.

hrngmhgd nothing more frustrating than the specific genre of post you get on here where the op is writing essays about how (particularly old) media that you do really enjoy is Actually uniquely progressive or groundbreaking or something but they're so clearly working from a (genuine, probably unconscious) desire for it be Morally Good Actually that they're overlooking or wildly re(mis)interpreting all of these bits of it to fit a specific highly simplistic picture of things they have in their head where bias & mistakes & bigotry etc etc don't exist except for the author to criticise them. to the point that any actual bad or date aspects somehow get transmogrified into something where actually the author is proving a point against that thing! and then it gets like 35k notes and you (nuance enjoyer) (guy who is aware of & thinks a lot about the flaws in his interests) have to see this like. I love & post about this thing a lot but you're literally wrong. I am not affiliated with you guys

Hiiii!!! I don't know if this request will be to personal, but you asked for some spencer requests and this is what I thought of :)!! Would you be able to do an spencer x fem!reader but reader is more masculine?? Cause I find it hard to find any fics like that. I wear what makes me feel comfortable but its hard to see other girls with cute sun dresses while I'm here looking like Adam Sandler. I also find it difficult to imagine my favorite characters with a girl leaning towards the masc side, really because they're paired with hyper feminine people alot. Which don't get me wrong, I love girls who embrace their fem side, its just so difficult to find representation for people like myself. Understand if you don't feel like doing it!!! Thank you for reading!! And keep doing you, you're amazing!!! <3
You wear what feels comfortable and Spencer loves that nothing anyone says will deter you from being comfortable and confident in your own skin.
He loves your graphic t-shirts and your baggy jeans or cargos. He finds you look like a rockstar most times, in the way that you don’t care at all if anyone finds your outfits groundbreaking, because you look like a badass all the time.
“I like this top,” it’s a white t-shirt with Snoopy on the front and his cute dog house on the back. Spencer can’t stop his hands from wandering under the hem of it and touching your stomach. “It’s really soft.”
You nod, kissing the top of Spencer’s curls as you slip into a blue pair of cargos, your boots lay near the bedroom door.
“Can we go to the bakery first and then the chess games?” you ask Spencer and he nods, leaning back on the bed as he watches you tie the strings on the pants.
“How do you make everything look so good?” he asks breathlessly, a smile on your face as you fit a headband on to push back your hair. His eyes track every movement, enchantment clear in them.
“You’re in a particularly sweet mood today, genius.” Spencer blushes but he really is. Sure he’s usually all lovey and enamoured with you, but today he seems to be overflowing with affection- not that you mind.
“You make me like this.” He’s one hundred percent honest too. You’re sure if someone were to draw Spencer as he is right now, laying in your sheets with his long legs hanging off the bed, they’d draw him with hearts in his eyes.
“I’ll do up your boots,” he rushes like you’d begrudge him the rite. “There perfect, you look so pretty.” you kiss him chastely before he can spew any more compliments that make your body heat like you’re laid on coals.

Actually have you read maia nyancrimews essay on Anarchism? Because it seems like most anarchists haven’t commented on it all that much whilst other bloggers have been tearing into it relentlessly as “deeply unserious” and “should have just been a tumblr post” so I was wondering if there is any valid criticisms of the essay or is it just Jacobins reading it in bad faith.
Just read it now, nothing particularly groundbreaking or controversial so I’m surprised it’s riling up Jacobins on here so much, but I broadly agree with it. There’s a lot of armchair critics uninvolved in any material struggle who love to call anyone actually doing things beyond attending a flaccid party’s meetings “deeply unserious,” and they’re generally not worth paying mind. As for “should have just been a tumblr post” it was posted on a blog, and tumblr is a blogging platform, I don’t see why a personal blog has any more sanctity than the post being hosted here?
As far as the actual content of the essay (assuming this is about the one posted on November 14th), a lot of MLs get weirdly mad about anarchists emphasizing human relationships as crucial for political organizing and balk at the idea of “community,” and it’s why they seem fundamentally incapable of understanding what mutual aid is and just think it’s charity. When you’re subscribed to a vanguardist way of thinking and consider yourself the shepherd of unenlightened masses, this makes sense, because your political action is one-directional rather than going both ways and being, y’know, mutual.
But it’s still strange to me how hostile armchair Jacobins are to that sort of community building because it’s not something exclusively anarchist, the black panthers made use of it to great success, among other marxist historical examples.

When I first began watching horror, I was drawn in by the display of appetite—specifically female appetite—in all its forms: not only the way Rosemary slices into her steak, but also the way Ginger Fitzgerald begins eating human flesh in Ginger Snaps (2000), her eyes a disturbing jolt of light; the way Justine tears into uncooked chicken with her teeth in Raw (2016); the way Rose and Iris Parker steadily eat their father’s body at the dining table in We Are What We Are (2013), the remake of the 2010 Mexican film Somos lo que hay.
Food-based metaphor in horror is so often visceral and tacky and overwrought, so why does our delight still stand? As a woman, to say that you have found eating uncomfortable at times is not particularly groundbreaking. The anxiety has become mundane because it is so common for women, but isn’t that in itself noteworthy? Horror invites us to sit with this disgust, this anxiety, to acknowledge our appetite, to refuse to let us suppress it. There is something uncomfortable and enthralling about watching a woman devour what she likes with intent. It was the kind of eating I longed for. I looked on with jealousy, with desire, with newly-found resolve.
When I began watching horror regularly, I found its relationship with food satisfying because it often spoke to those dual desires at once: hunger and disgust. It was the same split sensation I had seeing Rosemary plunge into the steak with a fork. I was disgusted, but the disgust arrived with the ignition of my own appetite. The task was to let the hunger override the disgust. To let appetite overwrite the shame.
And, really, wasn’t my shame at eating alone about the shame of being witnessed, being caught desiring, too? To be witnessed wanting, and then to witness the capacity of your own appetite.
What if you allowed yourself to want what you want? What wonderful, terrifying things would happen then? There are dual horrors here: the horror of recognizing your capacity for desire in another person, and where it can drive you—and the horror of being observed in this primal state, unedited and unfiltered, acting on what you want.

Fandom I'm begging you all to wait and see how the season plays out. Everything right now seems to be pointing towards Buddie and sure I could be wrong but I also think it would be the shows downfall if they didn't make Buddie happen this season and I think Tim and abc know that.
This isn't just about catering to fandom whims this is that since right before s7 they've done so much to put focus on Buddie way more than with any season before. Deliberate choices have been made that if they're not leading to Buddie can't not be seen as queerbaiting. And yes a show with queer characters can still queerbait if they're using a popular queer ship to garner attention and views. Though I don't think that's what's happening here.
The only reason I think more didn't happen with Buddie last season is because the season was short and they got renewed for s8 early. You can tell if you watch from eps 1-6 that they were leading somewhere with Buddie (they had them singing a karaoke love song ffs) but changed gears after getting renewed for s8. At the same time Tim still didn't put more development or focus on b/t so it's not that Buddie happening was shelved (as in it's never happening) it was just paused.
Also I see people spiraling about that pic Ryan posted assuming because he's in a robe and because he put "Don Diaz" on it that it's a reference to Don Juan and this means Eddie is going to be hooking up with a bunch of women. I just don't see that happening. Ryan could have easily just been making a joke or trying to mess with fandom or it could mean nothing. It could be a Godfather reference. Or it could be something like Eddie tries to hook up with a random girl and he just can't do it and then that leads to him talking to the priest. Unfortunately we aren't going to know what that pic really means until the episode airs.
I know we've all been burned by the show (and other shows) before and I get being nervous about what could happen this season. But remember that Buck was supposed to come out in s4 (this has been confirmed by Oliver) and Eddie in s5 (this has been confirmed by the the insider) and presumably that's when Buddie would have happened. Buddie has been in the works for years. The main thing stopping it before was Fox and last season it was just too short to have Buck to come out, Eddie come out, and then Buddie to happen. 10 eps was just not enough time to tell such huge important stories for the show and these characters.
I know Tim and others behind the scenes of the show have made decisions we haven't always loved and maybe it's naive of me to still have trust in them after all this time but it's not just that. I see the signs. If I had seen more effort being put into b/t last season and into promoting them as a couple and especially if I saw that happening this season I'd be a lot more skeptical about the likelihood of Buddie ever happening. But I haven't seen any of that.
This season Tim has talked about how b/t are still together but he doesn't talk about the ship like it's this important thing, he talks about it like T*mmy is just like any other person Buck has dated. Meanwhile Eddie is ALWAYS mentioned when b/t are talked about including by Tim. Networks and showrunners know how to handle these kinds of things. If they wanted to minimize the attention Buddie gets they would have done so. We know this because that's exactly what they did in past seasons while they were with Fox, particularly after Tim left. Instead though since last season they've actually been putting more attention on Buddie, Ryan, and Oliver.
Like I said I get being nervous that something we've all hoped for for a long time might not happen. I know that Buddie and Eddie coming out means more to a lot of us than just some fictional characters and a ship. I know a lot of us see ourselves in them and we also see how important and groundbreaking in a way it will be when they finally go canon. I get why the anxiety around this season is heightened probably more so than any other season before it. We've never been as close to Buddie happening as we are now and that's so exciting but also scary.
But this is why I think we need to take every bts and spoiler etc that we get from the show and people involved in it (including the journalists who review it) with a grain of salt. We just aren't going to know what each episode is about until we watch them. Even when the season starts we need to remember to let the story play out. We might see things we won't like with b/t or Eddie in 801 but there will still be 17 more eps to get through where anything could happen.
We are so lucky that 911 is still on the air with most of the original cast still there and not looking to leave. That all the people that matter Tim, Oliver, and Ryan have all spoken out in support of Buddie happening. I've shipped non canon ships before that just were never going to happen, where showrunners and actors literally made fun of the fans for even shipping it. That's not what's happening with 911. Buddie now is being treated like a legitimate possibility we just have to be patient.

So I’m not entirely done with the page, but I just wanted to show off this thing I’m doing right now and also talk about these two (in part because delays means I can’t get my answers)
I’m trying out this thing to see if it helps me with posing (or more accurately drawing humans), where I basically have a shape layer and then that clean sketch layer that becomes my lineart
Admittedly I think one issue is that I won’t meddle with the sketch layer, as in using the enlarge/warp/distort tools, because I’ve deemed this brush one that I can’t do that with (actually I say that with most of my brushes except like one, which is my normal sketch pencil). And become of that I end up having to do most of the work on the clean layer. Which I also refuse to meddle with, but that’s also because it’s the clean layer
Like compare the shapes here with the sketches
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I need a bit more practice, and hopefully this will be useful in it
Personally I think Peach Blossom has turned out way better, but I plan on drawing more Chocos, so we’ll see
Anyways sorry, I’ll get back to what I was saying with these two
So previously I’ve alluded to me wanting yaoi with Peach Blossom. Well if I haven’t already said before, the person I want him to have yaoi with is Dark Choco. Or even just an interaction between these two, I’d be satisfied with that, especially if it left room for non-problematic shipping
I haven’t wanted to say because we don’t know Peach Blossom yet, and I don’t want to be horribly, horribly wrong, but fuck it, I can’t take another 2 weeks of waiting, I’m saying now. Will I regret this in the future? I don’t know, hopefully not
But anyways I want to point out things about their 2 designs
One thing I noticed particularly when drawing this is that while Peach Blossom is a bunch of light, semi pastel colors, Dark Choco is a bunch of dark colors, even in this form. I know that’s nothing groundbreaking, but my mind’s fixated on these two as a pair, and I like the contrast
Secondly and something actually more interesting, I’ve noticed for a while that they’re both missing one eye, and it’s the exact same one, that being their left one. Sure we don’t really know what the whole flower eye thing is, but I imagine Peach Blossom can’t really see out of it, so missing eye
One of the reasons I find it interesting is because as far as I can tell (at least right now), Peach Blossom doesn’t need to be missing an eye, and yet he is. And this is also the update that finally brings back Dark Choco, who is also missing a left eye
Is this a coincidence? Maybe, maybe not, we’ll have to see, but shut up, I find it interesting
Anyways yeah, I just wanted to share
I’m not sure what their ship name would be since darkpeach is already taken. And I wouldn’t be surprised if darkblossom is also taken as someone’s rare pair of Dark Choco/Cherry Blossom. I mean you could call it yaoi darkpeach or something, but there should probably be a better name

Top 10 Films of 2024
I’ve written before on how silly the exercise of coming up with an annual “top ten films” list always is. And yet, the tradition continues. One of the things I take away from the experience is the opportunity to parse through the dozens of movies I’ve watched in the past year and try to identify what exactly makes some movies speak to me more than others.
I found that especially challenging this year — not because there were so many remarkable films, or too few worth considering. But other than a few genuine standouts (4.5 to 5 stars), I thought there were so many solid films that I thoroughly enjoyed (4 stars), it was difficult to sift through them to decide “which was better.” In a sense, coming up with a top 20 was easy, but arriving at a top 10 was not.
I have, at times, tried very hard to distinguish between the concepts of “best films” and “favorite films,” but I’ve learned that such a distinction is murky at best. Our personal biases, preferences, life experiences, and so on play an indubitable role in our appreciation of a movie. For most people, those elements probably hold more weight than the various cinematic skills used to bring those stories to life.
But for those of us who have taken a more immersive approach, the trick lies in finding the appropriate balance.
There are films on my list this year that by no means rival the cinematic achievements of films not on the list, in either technique or narrative. And I must admit that some longstanding genre biases I may hold may have prevented me from fully enjoying some of the year’s most interesting work. (Spoiler alert: The Substance didn’t make my list.)
What matters most to me, though, is that ten years from now, I’ll be able to look at this list and remember who I was with respect to the world around me — what inspired me; what brought me to tears; what made my heart smile; what advanced my love for the movies.
I hope everyone had that experience with a few movies this year. Here are the ones that top my list for 2024.
Tumblr media
T10. Dìdi
Dir: Sean Wang
I swear this isn’t cheating, but I’ve selected two movies for my #10 slot as both are coming-of-age stories with vastly different approaches but similar affects (yes, with an ‘a’).
In Sean Wang’s Dìdi, we meet 13-year-old Chris, a second-generation Taiwanese American, in the summer of 2008. We journey with Chris (called “Dìdi” by his grandmother) over the weeks leading up to the start of high school as he struggles with the absence of his father, his strained relationship with his mother, internalized racism, first love, belonging, and — that most heart-wrenching of dilemmas — when your best friend demotes you from their MySpace “Top 8.”
Perhaps this resonates so strongly with me as the son of a single immigrant mother, but I find Dìdi to be authentic and warm without wallowing in sentimentality. Wang offers us relatable, vulnerable characters who we can’t help but root for, despite their flaws.

T10. Young Hearts
Dir: Anthony Schatteman
On surface level, there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking about the Belgian film Young Hearts; it might resemble any other teen romance. But Young Hearts just does it better. The young actors approach the subject matter with maturity and deliver powerful performances. Young Hearts inadvertently follows a lineage of recent movies exploring LGBTQ+ themes in early adolescence, namely 2023’s Monster and 2022’s Close — Best International Feature Oscar nominee and my #1 pick that year. (Lukas Dhont, who wrote and directed Close, co-wrote the script for Young Hearts with Schatteman.)
Young Hearts doesn’t quite match either of its predecessors in cinematic achievement. But while the other films lean in heavily on the tragedy that accompanies navigating complex emotions and relationships, Young Hearts focuses on the joy, which makes it just as important, if not more so. It’s exactly the kind of film I wish I could have seen when I was growing up.
IMDb: 8.1/10
Letterboxd: 4.0/5
Where to watch: Coming to US theaters March 14

9. No Other Land
Dir: Yuval Abraham, Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal
A front-runner for this year’s Documentary Feature Oscar, No Other Land tells the story of Palestinian activist Basel Adra, as he persists in his struggle to save his small village in the West Bank from forced displacement by Israeli forces. He is joined by Yuval, an aspiring Israeli journalist sympathetic to Basel’s cause. We painstakingly observe how the system works against them to bring them down at every point. We are both inspired and perplexed by their resilience, as when Israeli police imprison Basel’s father as leverage or the media paint Yuval as a traitor to his own people. But mostly, we are moved — saddened and angered by the callousness and injustice of it all.

8. หลานม่า (How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies)
Dir: Pat Boonnitipat
How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies is classic storytelling with a moral, but with a distinctly modern take. The film’s poignant themes touch on universal truths regarding love, family, and money, while addressing cultural matters, like ageism and gender dynamics within Sino-Thai culture. But at the heart of the film is its meaningful message, highlighted by the stellar performances of newcomers Putthipong Assaratanakul and (especially) Usha Seamkhum, who makes her film debut at age 78. With its harmonious blend of humor and pathos, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies is one of the year’s most charming films.
Rotten Tomatoes: 98%
IMDb: 8.0/10
Letterboxd: 4.3/5
Metacritic: 74/100
Where to watch: Rent or buy on Amazon or Apple TV

7. Ainda Estou Aqui (I’m Still Here)
Dir: Walter Salles
I’m Still Here recounts the true story of the disappearance of Ruben Paiva, a former Brazilian politician turned dissident, and the resilience of his family during the ensuing years of hardship and uncertainty. The story focuses mainly on his wife, Eunice, portrayed by Fernanda Torres in one of the year’s best performances. While the filmmaking itself is exceptional, I’m Still Here is made more compelling by the current relevance of its narrative — the importance of resisting oppressive regimes and seeking the truth, regardless of how long it takes or how dark things seem.
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%
IMDb: 8.7/10
Letterboxd: 4.3/5
Metacritic: 85/100

6. All We Imagine as Light
Dir: Payal Kapadia
There were few film characters I cared more about this year than Prabha and Anu, the Indian nurses who feature at the center of All We Imagine as Light. The film paints a vivid picture of life in Mumbai through the eyes of women who face various challenges due to societal norms — a husband from an arranged marriage working half a world away; a Muslim boyfriend sure to be reviled and rejected by Hindu parents; a widow losing her home because her name doesn’t appear on any of the documents. Despite its incredible cinematography and beautiful imagery, there is nothing flashy about this film. It is intimate, subtle, and contemplative.
Rotten Tomatoes: 100%
IMDb: 7.1/10
Letterboxd: 3.9/5
Metacritic: 93/100
Where to watch: Rent or buy on Prime Video or Apple TV
Tumblr media
5. Wicked
Dir: Jon M. Chu
No, this is not just because I’m a former musical theater kid. Wicked isn’t even close to my favorite musical and I’m typically very skeptical of film adaptions of popular musicals, which I think seldom do them justice. But Wicked succeeds where others have failed. It is surprisingly cinematic — grand and enthralling, excelling on every technical level. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande give A+ performances and the film really rests on their shoulders. Wicked perfectly balances paying enough tribute to fans of the stage show who have high expectations with crafting a version fit for the silver screen. I did not expect to leave the theater thinking, “This is one of the best movies of the year.” But I did.
Rotten Tomatoes: 88%
IMDb: 7.6/10
Letterboxd: 3.9/5
Metacritic: 73/100
Where to watch: Streaming on Peacock, starting March 21
Tumblr media
4. Nickel Boys
Dir: RaMell Ross
Nickel Boys is simultaneously the most harrowing film of 2024 and the most groundbreaking. RaMell Ross’s decision to use a first-person perspective to tell the story of two young boys’ experience at a Tallahassee reform school in the 1960s allows us to feel everything more deeply — the deep bond of friendship, the harsh cruelty of racism, the love of family, the dissolution of hope, the power of resilience. Some dismiss this cinematic technique as a gimmick, but I find it ultimately serves the story well and makes Nickel Boys one of the standout films of the year.
Rotten Tomatoes: 91%
IMDb: 7.1/10
Letterboxd: 4.0/5
Metacritic: 91/100
Where to watch: Streaming now on MGM+
Tumblr media
3. Sing Sing
Dir: Greg Kwedar
No other film in 2024 was as moving or heartfelt as Sing Sing, the true story of inmates in New York’s notorious maximum-security prison who find community and healing in a theater troupe. Colman Domingo gives a career-best performance leading a cast primarily comprised of former inmates. Clarence Maclin deserved an Oscar nomination for his strong performance as well.
The film touches on many of the systemic issues that plague our justice system but asks us to look deeper, into the microlevel impacts and personal stories. I was moved throughout, but the closing montage of actual footage of former troupes of Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program was most inspirational.
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%
IMDb: 7.7/10
Letterboxd: 4.3/5
Metacritic: 83/100
Where to watch: Streaming on Max starting March 21
Tumblr media
2. Conclave
Dir: Edward Berger
Who would have thought that one of the most thrilling movies of the year would be a film about clergy and voting? Conclave benefits from an outstanding cast — perhaps the strongest of any film this year — and an enthralling screenplay. I’ve seen criticism for the lack of ingenuity in the dialogue, which I understand to a degree, but as someone who lived and worked among clergy for many years, I can vouch for its realism.
And that is perhaps what makes Conclave so powerful. As fantastical as its ending may be, every step along the way feels so rooted in reality, we can believe it to be true. We can feel our own selves sequestered behind the walls of the Vatican. Our bodies feel the tension in the Sistine Chapel during each vote and our minds wander in the same way the cardinals’ minds must.
Conclave is a provocative and riveting drama that effectively accomplishes everything it tries to do.
Rotten Tomatoes: 93%
IMDb: 7.4/10
Letterboxd: 3.9/5
Metacritic: 79/100
Where to watch: Streaming now on Peacock
---
And before revealing my top pick for 2024, here are the 9 other films that rounded out my Top 20 (in alphabetical order):
Honorable mentions:
Anora
The Brutalist
Challengers
A Complete Unknown
Daughters
A Different Man
Flow
Ghostlight
The Wild Robot

1. Dune: Part Two
Dir: Denis Villeneuve
Nothing has aggravated me more this award season than the lack of acknowledgement for the masterpiece that is Dune: Part Two. In this epic sequel, director Denis Villeneuve surpasses the incredible achievements he made in the first film. And for those who have read the book and seen previous attempts to transfer its complexity to the screen, the significance of the accomplishment is not lost.
The performances are all up a notch for this sequel, especially Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson. We finally get to see Zendaya make her mark on the series. Javier Bardem is a fantastic light. Austin Butler is menacing and gives what I thought might have registered for a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
And as expected, Dune excels on every technical level. Despite its 2.5-hour runtime, not a frame is wasted or presented without intent or without a thought to making it both beautiful and meaningful. All this serves to bring the essence of Frank Herbert’s work with astounding effect.
Dune: Part Two is not simply the best movie of the year, but one of the most impressive films of the 21st century. All that’s left is to see if Dune: Messiah can surpass it. And, I guess, if the Academy will still ignore it.
Rotten Tomatoes: 92%
IMDb: 8.5/10
Letterboxd: 4.4/5
Metacritic: 79/100
Where to watch: Streaming now on Max

hi! just saw this video on sisi and while i normally ignore them since they severely mischaracterize her as this tragedy the title caught my eye a little and i wanna know your thoughts on it
heres the link: https://youtu.be/p7pL8hmiQbI?si=6igohsdO6CI7Z-4a
Hello! I actually already watched the video, and as I said to @minetteskvareninova, I think the OP ultimately doesn't understand why people like Elisabeth in the first place.
The video itself isn't bad - at least OP's source isn't Wikipedia. The two biographies they cite as a source are Brigitte Hamann's The Reluctant Empress and Joan Haslip's The Lonely Empress, although clearly Hamann's book was the one that OP relied on the most. Which makes perfect sense, since to this day is the most up-to-date biography of the empress in English. Hamann had in general a negative opinion of Elisabeth, and this bias makes it to the video pretty much uncritically. I don't blame OP for taking all of Hamann's takes at face value, but it did annoy me that they presented them as if they were somehow groundbreaking information that people aren't aware of. The Reluctant Empress is considered by many as the best Elisabeth biography and it had a lasting impact in the way she is perceived and depicted by historians and the general public alike. You are 50 years late to the party if you think people who like Elisabeth don't know that she had a complicated relationship with Rudolf and Gisela.
Now, Hamann's biases aside, I did find the video odd. Because at first it seemed the angle they were going for was "Sisi was a selfish person and this particularly shows in her poor relationship with her eldest children" (which I personally think is more complex than that but well it is a valid take). But halfway through the video the tone shifts and you realize that no, OP meant that Elisabeth was a bad empress literally. They think you shouldn't romantize her because she wasn't a dutiful empress, dedicated to her role as a mother of her subjects, using her charm to help her husband rule the empire. Which is just a baffling demand. That Elisabeth was a bad empress is the most well known fact about her - and it's literally what makes her so fascinating for so many of us. How can you read about a girl who felt trapped by her role in an institutional monarchy and fought her whole life to get away from it and go "actually she should have done her duty like all the other queens that fulfilled her role and then nothing bad would've happend to the Austrian empire". You clearly don't get the appeal of Elisabeth as a historical figure if you think that that is what we wanted from her lol.
Also I fail to see how Elisabeth being a more conventional consort could've avoided the fate of the Habsburg empire. To think that her actions, and not her husband's, had more impact in the politics of the empire is just nonsense - no, the Czech national movement had nothing to do with Elisabeth being mean to Bohemian nobles, what are you even talking about.
All in all, I don't think it's bad not liking Elisabeth nor I think she needs to be defended - she has a good reputation even if she is considered selfish and eccentric (which in some degrees, she was). I just don't get why would your main take away be "this woman should've fulfilled her role dutifully regardless of any personal feelings in order to keep the Habsburgs in power". I understand why contemporaries would think this way, but complaning about this in 2024 is just so weird to me. To me Elisabeth shouldn't have been an empress because no one should be an empress, period.

Dragon Ball Daima: Oops! All Babies
Tumblr media
I think the word is already out on this thing. Turns out all the rumors about a new Dragon Ball anime featuring a de-aged Goku were mostly true. But it's not "Dragon Ball Magic", it's "Dragon Ball Daima". And while the Supreme Kai is in the trailer, so are a lot of other characters, so it remains to be seen if he's in the lead like the "Magic" rumors had suggested. As far as the name goes, "Daima" is apparently a word Toriyama made up, so "Magic" may have been a best-guess attempt to translate it into English, or maybe it was a working title used behind the scenes, sort of like how they called "Return of the Jedi" by the name "Blue Harvest" during production.
Anyway, the trailer features lots of characters being turned into small children, not just Goku. Some characters are unaccounted for, most notably Gohan. I'm not sure how to interpret this. It could mean he's not in the show at all, and he was unaffected by whatever caused this. But my guess is that they only had so much footage they could put in the trailer, and someone decided Kid Gohan wasn't very helpful from a promotional standpoint. I mean, we saw a lot of Kid Gohan in DBZ. Showing a Kid Gohan in Daima might have led to confusion about the show's continuity.
I'm not... particularly interested in the adults-turned-to-kids gimmick. I don't hate it, but it doesn't mean much to me. The characters look adorable, and that's great, but it's not exactly groundbreaking.
What does interest me is the message from Akira Toriyama at the panel where they unveiled the trailer. I like it because it gives me some assurance that Daima won't fall into the same pitfalls as GT. Let's discuss.
A transcript, first, in case you couldn't read the image at the top of the post:
Hello. I’m Akira Toriyama.
I’m currently working on a new Dragon Ball. The Title is “Dragon Ball DAIMA”.
“DAIMA” is a made-up term, which in Japanese characters would be “大魔” or in English would be something like “Evil.”
Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world.
Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.
I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual!
Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. Hope you enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!!
— AKIRA TORIYAMA
All that really matters here is the part where he says why the characters get turned into kids. "Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things..."
I spent like two months this year complaining about Dragon Ball GT, and pointing out all its various flaws and shortcomings, and here Toriyama sums it all up without even really talking about GT at all. The big problem with GT was not that they turned Goku into a child. The problem was that they turned Goku into a child and then did nothing about it.
I know a lot of fans like GT, but that isn't the point. The point is that when Goku turns into a kid in the first episode, it's presented like a big problem, an obstacle the hero must overcome. The implication is that Goku has to go on a quest to restore himself to normal. Except that's not the problem. The Black Star Dragon Balls are the problem, and Goku can't even think about using them to turn himself back, because they'll destroy the Earth.
So the viewer might be led to assume that the show is actually about Goku learning to adapt to this second childhood. Well, no, because he very quickly decides that it doesn't matter much to him. The only real drawback to his kid body is that for some reason he can't teleport or use Super Saiyan 3. But then he discovers Super Saiyan 4, which can teleport and it's stronger and stabler than SSJ3, so yeah he's arguably better off than he was before.
So what was the purpose of making Goku a kid in GT? I don't know, I guess Toei thought he would look cool that way. Well, fair enough, but that's like giving Goku a haircut, or a new pair of shoes. You don't market a show on a mere cosmetic change. GT presented Kid Goku like a problem that would be central to the series, and then did their best to ignore it for the next 63 episodes. And this hurts everything else they tried to do with the show, because all of the villains and aliens and battles ring hollow when they don't have anything to do with Goku being turned into a kid. If GT could have fixed that fundamental problem, it might not have fixed everything I hated about GT, but it would have at least made the show feel more satisfying to watch.
What I'm driving at here is that Toriyama understands that you can't just de-age your characters for no reason. There has to be a plot-driven reason behind it, or it's just a cheap gimmick. And there is a reason in Daima. There's a conspiracy, and somehow it led to Goku and the gang getting turned into kids. This isn't just Emperor Pilaf making a stupid wish without thinking. Someone did this on purpose. I don't know why someone would do this. Maybe it's an unintended side effect of some other action, but it's still a deliberate action that will set the plot into motion.
And this version of Goku may not care about being de-aged, just like the GT Goku didn't care, but Daima Goku is still going to do something about it. We know this because "In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world!" The conspiracy is a problem to be solved, and Goku's going to go to this "new world" to solve it.
This is important. I can't stress it enough. This is why Akira Toriyama is so good at what he does. I'm not saying he's flawless, but most of the criticisms I see leveled at Toriyama don't hold water. The guy knows how important it is to connect all the story beats together.
Of course, Daima could still fall flat. I mean, the Zamasu arc was terrible, so maybe this thing will turn out to be a stinker too. But at least I can rest easy knowing this won't just repeat all the mistakes GT made.

What would you need from the fans of How To Dance In Ohio for a ProShot to be streamed somewhere like Broadway HD or similar? Would it need to be a Kickstarter or a social media campaign? Is there anyone we can write to? Part of my reason for asking is selfish, since I would love to see the show, but this show is also historic and groundbreaking in a lot of different ways and I also think your amazing performances need to be preserved as a part of Broadway history.
I know this is probably a really sad time for you and the rest of the Ohio cast/creative team and even if a ProShot never happens and nothing ever comes of it, just know that you, all of you, touched more lives and hearts than you could possibly know just by being who you are.
Thanks so much for asking. This is something we have been discussing with the producers, because obviously we'd all love it to happen too.
Warning: incoming info-dump, albeit a grossly oversimplified one:
It would cost about $3M to produce a pro-shot. Here's an incomplete list of where that money would go:
-The regular costs of the venue itself--which, when you include rent, utilities, and staff salaries (security, bartenders, ushers, custodians, all the people who are just in charge of maintaining the Belasco), comes out to about $1K a minute.
-The labor of obtaining necessary permits for filming onsite.
-The labor of the film crew, including load-in, setup, and breakdown of equipment, and coordinating with stage management to make sure their shooting doesn't get in the way of backstage choreography, and making any adjustments accordingly
-The collaboration between the film crew and the in-house sound crew to make sure the audio is captured and balanced properly
-The labor of post-production: editing, color correction, sound adjustment, etc.
-There are also different contracts (and higher pay) for the actors, stage managers, stage crew, sound crew, lighting crew, and wardrobe crew, in addition to our current contracts wherein we're just doing the show as usual. This can get particularly complicated with the actors and stage managers, since our Broadway contracts are through Actors' Equity Association (the union for stage actors and stage managers) but the contract for having our work filmed and distributed in theaters or on streaming platforms is under SAG-AFTRA (the union for film actors).
This is not a complete list, but to give you some context: that's about what it would cost just to make the thing. The costs and logistics of actually distributing it is a different story altogether, and a lot of that would depend on strategizing around future productions and making sure the availability of the pro-shot wouldn't compromise, say, a national tour. I'm not a producer and don't have the numbers and the research, but what I'd love to see happen is, the pro-shot gets a limited theatrical release to coincide with a national tour, and then gets released to streaming platforms when the tour is wrapped. (Of course, as an elder millennial who's genetically incapable of not being financially stressed, I don't care where or how it's released as long as I get those residual checks lol.)
As to your question of crowdfunding: as far as I understand it (and I'm not an entertainment lawyer so I likely have very incomplete information, so don't take my word at total face value): in order to crowdfund for a pro-shot, the producers would likely need to establish a new business entity and it would have to be a nonprofit entity so it could legally solicit donations from the public. Broadway shows are commercially produced, and each iteration of the commercially-produced production has its own business entity. When the show was in workshops and in Syracuse, the business entity was "Amigos in Ohio, LLC." The Broadway entity is "Amigos on Broadway, LLC." The only difference it makes on my end is the name that shows up on my bank statement when I get my direct deposit every week, but the difference it makes from a producer perspective is much more significant and it has a big effect on how productions are legally and ethically allowed to be funded, and again I'm not an entertainment lawyer so explaining what those differences are is beyond me.
I will say, however, Ken Davenport has been a real innovator when it comes to how shows can be produced--in 2010, he launched what eventually became the first crowdfunded Broadway musical with the Godspell revival. I know very little about how all of that actually works, but I do think something like that would be a boon to the industry in the year of our dark Majestic Theater 2024. And it would also give the fans a way to connect with the material and the business on a deeper and more personal level.
Meanwhile, if you want to learn more about how Broadway works from the producers' side, you should check out Sammy Lopez's Producing 101 course on The Business of Broadway. (I'm going to be in an upcoming class myself and it's all virtual, so maybe I'll see you there!)

LBGTQ+ Disabled Characters Showdown Round 3, Wave 1, Poll 7
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A character being totally canon LGBTQ+ and disabled was not required to be in this competition. Please check qualifications and propaganda before asking why a character is included.
Check out the other polls in this wave and prior here.
Link-Legend of Zelda
Qualifications:
He was legit designed to be androgynous (Nintendo has actually said this) and easily passes as a girl (I firmly believe Link is genderfluid), and also he got his arm yoinked
He lost his arm in TOTK, but ALSO we know that one version of him, the Hero's Shade (seen in Twilight Princess, and canonically is the one from Ocarina of Time) is missing his eye. Aside from that, one version of Link (the one in BOTW/TOTK) is commonly headcanoned as gay/bi (often shipped with prince Sidon of the zora), as well as seen by plenty of fans as genderfluid or nonbinary. People also headcanon him as having PTSD and severe anxiety due to the VERY traumatic things he's had to deal with (particularly BOTW Link, as he's the one who failed in his mission to protect Hyrule, unlike the other versions)
Additional qualifications by @sasybanana : Botw link is also canonically selectively mute due to his very canon anxiety over his responsibilities as keeper of the mastersword before the calamity. This is referenced both in some of his memories with zelda and some of her journals you can find. It was also noted by Robby in botw that link is riddled with scars and burns from the incident that put him in the shrine of resurrection to begin with. I forgot to say: many people also believe link is Asexual or generally Ace due to his overall disposition toward canonical romantic partners and prospective in-game ones as well.
Propaganda:
Link is the best and deserves to be in this
Link is cool, and I want more people to see how cool he is
Anything Else?:
Okay, if you want to see a GREAT Zelda comic that incorporates both the mental health headcanons common with Link, as well as one version missing his eye, look up Linked Universe, it's pretty good at showing those (Submitter 2)
Luz Noceda-The Owl House
Qualifications:
Canonically bisexual and shown in the show, never stated in the show but is also ADHD
She is bisexual and has ADHD.
Bisexual (canon) and neurodivergent (heavily coded)
bisexual adhd queen
Very cool character that shows children that it's okay to be disabled and in the LGBTQ community
Propaganda:
Has been through many of the troubles that I as an ADHD person have also been through, mainly regarding school. (Shown mainly in season 3)
She’s got a girlfriend, which is groundbreaking representation for a Disney cartoon (especially considering how she’s the main character). She’s also really determined and kind, having amassed a massive found family by the end of the show. Her ADHD causes her a number of problems throughout her journey, but it also makes her who she is.
I adore her and she had done nothing wrong in her life ever
SHES THE BEST EVER
People want to screw her for some reason so uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah
Anything Else?:
Canon girlfriend she has a canon girlfriend. And has crushed on both she/hers and he/hims (Submitter 1)
Enchanted Grom Fight was absolute bangers (Submitter 5)

question 5 for moon and for nsh?
5. First song that comes to mind when you think about them?
Moon: Either Nothing by Poppy or Afterlife by Shadow Cliq
Sig: LOL by Groundbreaking or Notion by The Rare Occasions, which is actually my voice claim for him!

Idk the “when mercy’s weakness” line immediately jumped out to me as Moon, yknow? not to mention Poppy’s vocals, including the screaming, are still really airy and light, almost shrill at times, a lot like moons crying noises in game when she malfunctions or gets hurt.

“Frozen in time but my heart’s still beating” yeah chat idk this one is just. yeah.

i could rant about this entire song bc the entire thing just screams sig’s feelings through the entire debacle with suns. and i don’t mean in a literal sense i mean in a bitterly ironic sense in the fact sig puts up a front of nonchalance and calm the entire time and is seen as the jokey one when in her perspective it feels like suns is the one treating this like a joke. “The current situation, however, is going to be a very big setback…” like i think “setback” is a bit of a TRIVIALIZATION HERE, SUNSY.

on a more positive note this song just is sig to me <3 not particularly giving a shit about ascension, more attached to the world than her peers. also bc his voice sounds a lot like the singer’s
