rook inspos from (mostly) canon children
the free space warden/li + hawke/li child
the second free space of kieran with bonus NOT ogb!kieran
oghren/felsi's child canonly named after the warden
rica/bhelen's son
m!aeducan/mardy's son named endrin/trian/duncan/gorim or after m!aeducan
zerlinda's son
gorim/unnamed wife's child
not at all a child but the wife bodahn leaves in denerim would be extremely funny as a rook
the child they name after tamlen in the sabrae clan (and one of the few survivors if you play that way...)
ser jory/unnamed wife's child
iona's daughter amethyne
bevin from the green blade quest in redcliffe
arl eamon/isolde's mage daughter named rowan they have if connor is killed and likely not canon at all now but it is in my heart
emile de launcet/nella's possible? child? rip to any rook coming from this
in dialogue between blackwall and m!inquisitor he alludes to the fact if any of his trysts resulted in children he doesn't know
additionally duncan sleeps with a mage in the books and not confirmed child but What If
feel free to add any i missed

in The Hobbit book Fíli is described as the younger brother of Kíli but in the Appendices of Lord of the Rings Fíli is clearly stated as being older than Kíli by five years. this could easily just be chalked up as a mistake (or even an indication that Thorin himself mixed their ages up for whatever reason, as he's the one who made that statement in the book), but because of jirt's decision to retcon all of the major contradictions between the The Hobbit and LOTR by simply establishing Bilbo as an Unreliable Narrator(TM), this heavily implies that Bilbo just... forgot which one of them was older
Whether it's due to his failing memory with age or the Ring wearing down his mind (or both), I think this is highly likely because Bilbo himself admits (through the third-person narration in The Hobbit) that his memory was fallible even prior to the Quest: he forgets that he invited Gandalf over for tea the day prior to the Unexpected Party, he forgets multiple important items when he leaves his house (including money!) and Gandalf arrives afterward with most of his belongings he needed for the journey (apparently because this is a predictable enough behavior from Bilbo that Gandalf knew he'd forget them), and the narration itself states that Bilbo needed to write down important events as to not forget them ("like this: Gandalf Tea Wednesday"). This is one of the very first things we learn about him! (like, literally within the first few pages)
What else did Bilbo forget? How much of Bilbo's unreliability in The Hobbit stems from his bending of the truth or influence of the Ring, and how much of it is simply just... His mind failing him?

I've seen plenty of bonkers criticisms of Rings of Power, but this is certainly the most baffling so far.
Tolkien was never about the elves?
Tolkien?!
J.R.R. Tolkien?!
The guy who wrote The Silmarillion?!
That Tolkien?!

can gnomes be trans??
i mean.
okay. look. the gnomes are first and foremost speculative bio, so their sociology is not the priority of developing them as a species. they are not meant to map to human ideas of gender and sex, because they don't experience those. you're essentially asking can bees be trans.
i would posit gnomes don't really know what trans is, because to them, there are queens and breeding males, and then there's everyone else and the babies. there is no functional difference between non-breeding males and females until males go into rut, and then you're a breeding male and you leave and you're not a real part of society. an afab gnome is not going to transition into a breeding male because that's not physically possible outside of extremely rare intersex cases, and there is no social gender to transition across anyway. you could castrate a breeding male/pre-rut male and he would be no different from a non-breeding female, but that's still not a transition, that's more just a perpetual prepubesence. there Is probably a cultural tradition of doing this to males who would be more useful to the colony if they stuck around, but i wouldn't consider them transgender anymore than i would consider a eunuch transgender.
basically no, gnomes can't be trans.

I realized that Maizuru, despite being with Kabru's party for a while, still gets Holm's race wrong.
Tumblr media
At first I thought it was kind of the joke of the whole thing. Calling Marcille a frog woman, Holm a dwarf, and getting Rin's name wrong. Holm looks tired, annoyed or maybe a bit embarrassed by this mistake. He's the only one who's background is not "explosive". Marcille's and Rin's are, and his is just plain, dark, and with those lines at the bottom. Why? Maybe for comedical effect. Probably because he's been telling her he's a gnome before this. Just like Chilchuck doesn't like being called a kid and people still call him that, Holm doesn't like being called a dwarf and people keep calling that.
Tumblr media
It's not uncommon for people to mix those races, and since Shuro's party isn't the best with races (they don't even know Chil's a half-foot) they probably just think Holm is a wierd-looking dwarf. They probably hadn't seen any gnomes before. If it was Maizuru's first time seeing a gnome and calling it a dwarf, it could be understandable. But she's been with kabru's party long enough to realize that that dwarf is, actually, a gnome.
I think she doesn't believe Holm is a gnome, just like Marcille or Senshi don't believe Chil's an adult.
Tumblr media
That's the face of someone who's tired of this shit. It's like when someone tries to guess your country just by the way you look. There's maybe a bit of ignorance at first, but I think Maizuru is deliberately deciding to not believe Holm when he tells her he's a gnome for the first time. And he's so done.

Your art is adorable, and I really enjoy seeing your designs for the Silm characters! If you are still taking submissions, would you do Mîm, please? But there's no pressure; I completely understand if you'd rather not.

Two things:
Kabru spent the bulk of his life, and all of his adolescence, being raised by an elf in the elven country where he interacted with non-elves very occasionally. He left and became an adventurer at 18, which is presumably when he started living in a diverse society for the first time.
Elves are short and thin and often androgynous in comparison to other humans. At ~5'6" Kabru is tall by elf standards, keeps his hair cut at a shorter length, and does not appear any more androgynous than your average male elf.
So: how long did it take Kabru to realize that in mixed/tallman company he is not, in fact, masc, but a beautiful butch twink.

If I had a nickel for every instance one non-orc people group is mentioned hunting another like animals in Tolkien's works, I would have two nickels, which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice

Trying to figure out why the Tolkien fandom is so liberal- why is there so many pro choice people here
They hear the Song and the Call of the Truth that he wove into every word - a Christian, you know, who wrote an openly Catholic, Christian story - they hear it, they see it, and they want it, but they also hate it. They come for the beauty of the story but reject the Truth in it and keep the trappings.

Not enough people talk about how the ‘endless sleep curse’ is a fate worse than death.
At first you think, they’re just asleep, it’s not so bad. But there’s no guarantee the victim is not trapped in a nightmare, or lost in nothingness.
What if the curse can’t be broken? The victim neither wakes, dies, nor ages. They’re trapped in that state indefinitely as their loved ones live and die around them.
The victim is prevented from reuniting with their loved ones in life and the afterlife.
They’re granted no relief, no way out, and suffer from immortality while being locked out of their own body.
That’s what makes it so sinister.
