Listen I love the ‘dicks being ostracized from his family and self destructs’ trope in fics however
I would like an inverse just once (I could write it but I want this fic to be good so I can enjoy it and I am not the greatest writer) where everyone blows up at him and flat out lays into him and he just goes… okay… if that’s how you feel?
Takes himself off of the patrol routes and rosters. He’s off the emergency calls and his ‘call for city wide emergency’ has been down graded to ‘call for world wide emergency’ he’s no longer on comms with oracle
He stops offering assistance to the other kids teams, doesn’t send info for investigation and doesn’t go within 100feet of Gotham.
Takes himself off the den-mother, baby sitter, trainer for all the younger teams lost that involve any and all bats
In the beginning he vacates his apartment and temporarily moves in with Donna in New York and things are good because of course they are. They’re Dick and Donna a world doesn’t exist where they aren’t okay.
And then his presence in New York leads to a lot of the og core five titans interacting and they realize that they miss each other like hell and start to work together more and more. Until news sites are like ‘teen titans grown up??’ ‘Original titans spotted doing hurricane aid in Florida!’
Because Dick loves his family but he knows when to bow out. And he chose the family he made in the new teen titans.
And then one day one of the bats track him down in nyc and breaks into what is now Dick and Donna’s apartment and are ready to argue that they need him back and need him there for a huge Gotham wide event.
And Dick says ‘sure okay let me get my stuff and we leave in half and hour’ as soon as the first sentence is out
No convincing or begging or asking for money (cough Jason cough)
Dick is patched into their comms and he’s working efficiently except he’s not… acting like himself.
He’s collaborating with whoever they tell him too, no problem, he’s discussing ideal plans and co-ops and teams and how to best get it under control.
But he’s talking to them the way he talks when he’s offering aid to teams he’s not a part of.
Like the hero version of an acquaintance and no one can call him out on it because he’s doing good work. Work that’s on par with his work before this whole fiasco. He explicitly isn’t letting their personal issues affect his work.
He’s speaking but not talking
And Bruce remembers this… he’s probably the only one who does because last time he was the only one included. The last time Dick acted like this is when he first visited Jason and him after he had been fired.
Whenever Bruce was in the room and Dick was forced to speak with him, the conversation never strayed past business casual especially around Jason.
Batman and Nightwing got into screaming matches
Bruce and Dick were strangers
And now they’re back to this, 7 kids later, a million ends of the world stopped, they’ve bled together, cried together and clung to each other in pure relief after they managed to clutch victory.
And Nightwing was treating Batman Inc like a new team stepping onto the scene.
Once they’ve secured everything and managed to keep Bruce from self destructing and making it worse. Dick just leaves and tells oracle that he’ll send over his debrief in 3-5 business days and it was nice working with them.
And then he’s gone
No cave, no manor, no Alfred, no med-bay because Dick doesn’t stay places he’s not welcome.
And after they all talk about that and how weird it was and Bruce reveals Dick did this before when he was Nightwing after Bruce fired, where Dick Grayson didn’t know Bruce Wayne.
And one of the kids asks when he broke and stopped the act and Bruce just says ‘the day he found out Jason died’
And the Batkids kinda freak bc what do you mean?? What is he only going to come back when someone dies? Thats not? There has to be another way?? And Bruce is like yeah no idea sorry (bc he’s helpful like that)
So then Steph the next day resolves to go visit him, Tim isn’t the only professional stalker. And she finds Dick and Donna’s apartment and well it’s daylight and she’s in civvies she’s if she climbs in through the window she might get reported to the NYPD and she doesn’t wanna get arrested or shot to door it is!
And so she goes and knocks and Dick opens the door and just lights up
Something something this is such a nice surprise something something it’s so good to see you.
Dick had taught Donna how to make some of his mother recipes when they were kids. So now whenever they’re together for a long time they cook together.
So Dick who is usually living in a cluttered apartment with no clean dishes and an exclusively grab and go food is now trying to force feed her some of his cooking.
Because he picked up the habit again since he’s the better cook between him and Donna.
And it’s delicious and he wants to catch up and hear everything that’s going on in her life, is she working with new people, dating anyone? How is her relationship with her mother etc etc.
It’s a nice day and she stays late and never confronts him on anything until she sees how long ago the sun set and she needs to get moving.
He hands her paper with his number and makes her promise not to give it to the others or she will lose access to it, he offers to help her on a conditional basis as nightwing but only her, she can call him about the rest if it’s an end of the world or they’re near death and need immediate aid.
And that’s like the fic because the key to winning nightwings assistance is like breathing (optional) but if you’re Dicks family you have to care or else. He’ll love you and help you, when you need it but he won’t tie his life up with yours, he’ll spend his time with people who value his opinion and the person behind the mask.
Anyway cue all the Batkids trying to do what Steph did and fail because they’re neurotic shits who think bonding involves doing casework together or a steak out.
(The next person to crack it is Damian, completely unintentionally he has a fight with Bruce and can’t ask him how the fuck he’s supposed to solve this equation in the new stupid way they’re teaching him no he can’t use the old method they’re supposed to show their work so he pulls up to Dick and Donna’s in a ratty ass hoodie like plz wtf do you mean you work top down explain Grayson- and dicks like awww no problem kid)
#dick grayson#batfam#AU#nightwing#batman#comics#bruce wayne#jason todd#tim drake#batfamily#damian wayne#the titans are family your honor#Dick Grayson and Donna Troy#they’re the besties#corporate wants to you point out the difference between these two photos#and it’s Donna Troy and Dick Grayson#it’s the same photo#titans

Can Multiple Versions of One Character Co-Exist?
There has been an idea floating around that multiple variations of Batman can't work over at DC. The reasons why people are claiming this have been quite versatile and in-depth. Kudos to those people for creating the discussion, but we have proof that multiple iterations can exist.
The recent discussion has been about how Matt Reeves is going to be able to do his thing while another Batman exists over in the DCU. The answer is a lot simpler than most people are willing to think it is. Make them different. Make them so wildly different that people can't mistake the two.
Let's not pretend like 2 different Batmen actors didn't just appear in The Flash. Let's not pretend that we don't currently have 3 versions of Spider-Man running over at Marvel. 2 out of 3 of those versions are Peter Parker. 2 out of 3 of those versions currently fall in the same medium of animation. Mind you, the animations are using Miles and Peter. However, there has been zero discussion that they are impossible to separate from each other.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man immediately established that this not the MCU version of Peter Parker. This is it's own thing.
Like it or hate, we can't spin a narrative on one side while the other side proves that very perspective wrong. Marketing for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has been ongoing for almost 3 years. This show has been a long time coming and as I said like it or hate it from day one we knew it was a unique vision.
If you have to say that two different versions of a character are in direct competition with each other, the first question that comes to mind is are the people in charge really thinking about the best interest of the character? Of course we know viewer ship and box office is going to be different for all all these visions of Spider-Man. No one is holding Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to the same standard as two major Spider-Man franchises. They are holding it to the standard of it's own merits.
Moving back to the duality of Batman, we should expect an established franchise to bring a core audience with that. Say The Batman 2 clears 1 billion at the box office, and then 6-8 months later, Batman the Brave and the Bold clears 800 million at the box office. Would anyone consider that a loss? Everything has become about money. Budget vs. Return. Woke or not woke. The narrative should always be about moving the needle of creativity so these characters continue to grow. Marvel has proven there is still new ground to be broken with Spider-Man. Now, it is your turn DC to prove that you can match that energy with your own flagship characters and move the needle in your own regard.

OK, I wrote a whole-ass blog post about this for work last year (to celebrate Power Rangers' 30th anniversary) but that's tied to my real name and employer so here's the anonymyized, me-centric version: I am very much the person that I am today thanks to this woman:
That is Margaret Loesch. Buckle up, this one's a long-ass history lesson.
To start, we have to go all the way back to 1978. Japanese film studio Toei partnered with Marvel to create Spiderman, an adaptation of Marvel's de-facto mascot. To say it departed from the source material is an understatement: hip young motorcyclist Takuya Yamashiro gains spider powers and a giant, kaiju fighting robot from a dying alien and protects Japan from the invading Professor Monster and his Iron Cross Army.
It came out the same year as an American live action Spider-Man TV show. The Japanese one was a hit, the American one flopped. Moreover, Stan fucking Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, preferred the Japanese one. So the Marvel/Toei partnership continued. They co-produced three seasons of Toei's Sentai series, renamed Super Sentai thanks to the addition of giant robots. And Stan Lee liked that too, and pitched an American adaptation to TV networks. Well, he and his second in command at Marvel Productions: Margaret Loesch.
There were no takers. It just wasn't what the Saturday Morning TV market was looking for. So Stan and Margaret started working on their next big pitch: an X-Men cartoon! The team had gone from an also-ran to Marvel Comics' top seller in the previous decade, so it made sense to them to bring it to TV screens alongside the likes of Spider-Man and The Hulk.
A few abortive attempts, including a couple of backdoor pilots on Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends, were made. The most famous was the "Pryde of the X-Men" TV special (executive producer: Margaret Loesch) that the company self-produced and aired sometimes with their syndicated Marvel Action Universe block.
Still, no takers. It would prove to be Loesch's last big project with Marvel, as she was offered a new job as the head of the brand-new Fox Kids network.
One of her first acts in office was commissioning the creation of an X-Men animated series. Not only did she genuinely see the potential in what she'd spent so many years developing, Marvel's nascent partnership with Toy Biz meant the X-Men were already a hit on toy store shelves.
The show was a hit (hence the revival starting next week) and the network's programming kept expanding. Haim Saban, whose company had been hired to produce XTAS, pitched her an idea he'd been working on since the mid-80s: an American adaptation of Toei's Super Sentai TV series.
Needless to say, Loesch saw the value in that too and took a chance on the idea. The result was Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, which was in nearly constant production for thirty full years.
Batman: Animated Series, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and The Tick all debuted during her tenure at Fox Kids. I don't know that I've ever seen it articulated this way, but the woman clearly believed that superheroes could be profitable again (the Smurfs/Snorks style kinda ruled the roost in children's programming at the end of the 80s) if they were done properly. And she was right.
My love of Batman, The X-Men, and the Power Rangers are the result of this woman's choices in shaping my childhood. Though she's not going to get any official credit, it's pretty appropriate that X-Men '97 is set to debut in Women's History Month because the original show was the leading edge of a wave of boy's action television that defined the childhoods of millions of millennials and it was put on the air by a woman.

Over the course of 18+ novels, mostly my own but some co-written with @dduane - including "The Romulan Way", * written on what should have been our honeymoon - I've usually employed ~10K-word chapters totalling a 10-chapter, ~100K-word book.
Each of those chapters gets sub-divided, the break usually indicated in manuscript with three asterisks between two empty lines, to indicate change of location, change of POV etc.
(This between-section symbol actually has a name. It's called a dinkus, and in published books may still be three asterisks, or something more decorative such as a fleuron or dingbat.)
I could have made each break its own separate chapter, but that would have resulted in the Patterson style under discussion. I've never read any of his stuff, but have read other books with similar short chapters, resulting in scores of them. They've always seemed excessively fussy, but that's just me.
(I don't like it when a short story has titled chapter-breaks either. It looks pretentious in something that's only as long as a novel chapter, though again that's just me.)
On the flip side, it took me a while to get used to Terry Pratchett's non-chapter books. Like a lot of people I was accustomed to the "read to the end of the chapter then stop / sleep / whatever" approach, but it quite soon became "Just keep a bookmark handy".
*****
* "The Romulan Way" is is a classic demonstration of why outlining beats pantsing, especially when writing franchise material and even when the writer owns the franchise.
DD's carefully constructed outline...
...was what had been accepted and approved by license-holder Paramount in the first place, so had an Official Green Light (more about that in a minute);
...was plot-precise enough that when the situation required, it could be written at speed (in 16 days, chapter about);
...was used to refute a stupid (and IMO malicious) accusation that "RomWay" wasn't Real Star Trek, just an unsellable SF story with Trek characters plugged in. Paramount's on-record approval of the outline confirmed it was real enough for them to pay for, and that was that.
Finally, why was it written so fast?
Long version here, but the short version is because DD was story-editing an animation series at the same time ("Dinosaucers"), the show's finance and scheduling got mucked up, when clearances finally came through the studio still wanted all episodes by The Due Date despite now having only a third of the production time, and "RomWay" also had a hard publication date.
So I got thrown in at the deep end, transitioning from a typewriter with a UK layout to a PC with a US layout (the differences are Small But Significant) in a matter of hours and then starting work.
Doing that work without the outline would have been impossible for either of us.
*****
Until I wrote my first screenplay (an episode of "Batman: The Animated Series") I hadn't realised that even in my very first novel, chapter and section breaks had been almost exactly equivalent to <FADE IN>, <FADE OUT>, <CUT TO> and other screenplay instructions. I'd even used <MATCH CUT> in both visual and dialogue forms... :->
There are lots of screenplay websites on-line: looking at Famous Movie Scripts will show how visual drama is set up on the page before it reaches the screen. It works just as well when writing prose, which has no budget limit for the location shooting and SFX.
*****
IMO a "chapter" that's excessively short isn't a chapter at all, and calling it so doesn't make it so, any more than calling a dairy cow a racehorse doesn't mean it can win the Grand National.
YMMV, of course. There are millions of readers who don't mind short chapters.
And after all, a famous fictional cow once jumped over the moon...
;->
Hi, Diane, I have a technical writing question for you: How do you decide how long a chapter is?
I've noticed a trend among mass market books of authors adopting the James Patterson style of chapters lasting a page & a half to three pages, but sometimes not even half a page. It's infuriating, especially when action on a single scene is split amongst them. I grew up learning that a chapter is an association of scenes, & that breaks were left for major scene and/or expository changes. If a book had 30 chapters, it'd be 400 pages long. Now I have 215-pages novels with 45 chapters!
You've always delivered a really good, fairly even, page & word per chapter count. So what's your thoughts on how it should be defined, & perhaps any on this metastasizing trend?
I haven't been entirely clear about what to do about this since I first started seeing this divergence of chapter lengths happening. (And bear in mind, this is a wide spectrum to be dealing with. There are books of Terry Pratchett's that have no clearly defined chapter breaks at all.)
My own take on it in the short term has varied depending on what book I was writing, and what rhythm the interactions among the characters were expressing. Sometimes written character business can happen very quickly, over a few pages: sometimes it has to happen more slowly, as it does among real people—a series of interactions, a pause, then further ripening developments and interactions.
Patterson is well known (I think) for having a house style... because I'm sure it'll have been a good while since he wrote anything but the high points of any given book himself. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the house style reinforces his own preferences, which would seem to be for very short interactions... that "short attention span" we've seen being discussed for so long, and getting shorter and shorter all the time.
I think it's safe to say I refuse to go that road. I want to allow readers time to sit in the characters' business (as it were) and think about what might happen next. I'm not afraid to allow the readership time to speculate about what might be about to occur before the next sequence of events sets in.
Is Patterson afraid to allow this? (sigh) I may have been a psych nurse, but I decline to attempt to read another writer's mind: that's a sure path to a headache. Is it possible that writers are as susceptible as their readers to that short-attention-span problem... and unwilling to attempt to slow it down for fear of being seen as somehow "behind the times?"
Damned if I know. Again, I decline to judge. But I sure as hell know how I'll behave on my own ground.
...Let me suggest a possibility to you, looking forward. Patterson's rhythms have all become the same because his (for certain values of "his") books have all become the same. ...And who's to blame for that? Readers are well known, in the industry, for wanting to read the same thing again and again, just a little bit different. That's not the readers' fault any more. They've been trained to it. And the market reflects their training.
You, meanwhile, get to set your own rhythms, and (ideally) allow the reader to settle into them, if they find other aspects of your voice congenial. Just because the Patterson modality seems to be all over the place at the moment, doesn't mean that it will continue to be. The market, gods help us, is all about the New. Someday (gasp) Patterson will be Old. And then what? Will slow slowly start to become cool? Tough to tell.
For myself, I write in a lot of different modes (gods help me, right now over on Bluesky we're discussing the possibility of a paranormal travel agency German [or maybe Swiss] Christmas market cozy murder mystery); and every single one of them requires a different rhythm according to the subject matter, the thought processes of the characters, the rhythm of the story itself and of the characters making their way through it, the way the action expresses itself throughout this story, etc etc. I can't imagine what doing it the same way all the time, regardless of the story's and the characters' imperatives, would feel like. Deadening, at the very least. And isn't writing about being, and becoming, more alive, not less??
If I've got a message, it's this: Let Patterson go his own way (for whatever values of "his"). None of us are going to be him, any time soon.*
I think you should write in the rhythm, and with the chapter breaks, that best suit the story you're telling. If some of your readers don't like those... fine. Others will. Whether they like to hear it or not—and some of them won't—like books, readers too are ephemera: they come and go. Your job is to be faithful to the story as you conceive it, and the rhythms and chapter breaks you feel it needs. The story has no one else to depend on.
So: get busy being God in your own creative universe, and ignore what other gods are doing in theirs.
HTH!
ETA: Historically I've had a tendency to use the "shopping list" method described over here for my outlining, and that's routinely determined chapter lengths to some extent. (i.e., if there were ten items on the list, and [thereafter] ten chapters in a 100K-word book, then that means 10K chapters.)
...Except when I feel a chapter needs to be subdivided, or combined with another one and then the whole thing chopped into three. Or when more entries get added to the master list. I look to see how a chapter "feels" when weighed in the hand of the mind: too long? too heavy? too short? too rushed?—and then adjust its length accordingly.
So briefly: my own basic rules are guidelines, to be broken when necessary. Yours should be, too. Only experience will teach you when this is necessary. But that's just another part of the Craft. "We learn by doing..." :)
*Though do we want to be?

‘Supermen’ Routh, Cain, Newbern, ‘Twilight’ Standouts Among Additions to FAN EXPO Portland Lineup
It will truly be a “Super” time for fans of the “Man of Steel” at FAN EXPO Portland, as stars of four iterations of the franchise joined the celebrity lineup at the pop culture extravaganza set for January 24-26 at the Oregon Convention Center. Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”), George Newbern (“Justice League”) and Bitsie Tulloch (“Superman & Lois”) are now part of the standout roster, along with “Twilight” standouts Rachelle Lefevre and Peter Facinelli and “Grimm” headliner David Giuntoli. The four join Tulloch’s fellow “Superman & Lois” star Tyler Hoechlin, previously announced, at the show.
Cain, who brought the Man of Steel back to TV screens in the hit series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," has appeared in more than 200 movies and television series. He has had recurring roles on popular shows like “Supergirl,” “Las Vegas” and “Hope and Faith” and also produced and hosted the revival of "Ripley's Believe it or Not!" Cain has also been a regular on family and holiday TV films and faith-based productions.
Routh portrayed Superman and Clark in the 2006 “Superman Returns” movie and is also well-known for popular roles in “Arrow,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash,” “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” and many others. This year he starred opposite Mena Suvari in the feature sci-fi film "Ick.”
In addition to voicing Superman/Clark Kent in “Justice League,” “Justice League Unlimited,” “The Batman” and other DC properties, Newbern has had roles in popular films like “Father of the Bride,” “Adventures in Babysitting,” and “Saw VI” as well as popular TV series “Castle,” “Criminal Minds,” “NCIS,” and dozens of other dating back more than four decades.
Tulloch was already familiar to genre fans for appearances as “Lois Lane” in DC hits “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Batwoman,” “Supergirl” and others, and for her work in “The Artist,” “Concussion” and “Grimm” before vaulting to prominence in the intrepid reporter role alongside Hoechlin in the current series.
Lefevre played “Victoria” in the original “Twilight” film and New Moon, among nearly 80 TV and film credits. She co-stars in the current Hallmark limited holiday series “Holidazed” and starred in the Fox TV series “Proven Innocent.”
Facinelli had already appeared in more than 30 TV shows and movies before his portrayal of “Dr. Carlisle Cullen” in several versions of “The Twilight” Saga”. He later had a six-season run as “Dr. Fitch Cooper” in “Nurse Jackie” and recurring roles in “Supergirl,” “American Odyssey” and “S.W.A.T.”
Most recently the star of “A Million Little Things,” a series which wrapped up a five-year run last year, Giuntoli was cast as the lead "Nick Burkhardt” across the six years of the NBC fantasy drama “Grimm.” He's also made guest appearances in popular series like "Without a Trace," "Cold Case," "Hot in Cleveland," "Private Practice" and many others, as well as an episode of “Superman & Lois” this year, opposite his wife Bitsie Tulloch.
They join a FAN EXPO Portland celebrity lineup headlined by “The Flash” guests Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh and Danielle Panabaker; eight “Supernatural” stars including Jared Padalecki, Alexander Calvert and Mark Sheppard; James Marsters (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); a strong set of voice acting talent from the worlds of animation and anime; and more.
FAN EXPO Portland features the biggest and best in pop culture: movies, TV, music, artists, writers, exhibitors, and cosplay, with three full days of themed programming to satisfy every fandom.

Ever since Adam West hopped into his version in 1966, the various versions of Batman’s Batmobile have been among the coolest vehicles on Earth. (Almost a decade ago, that original Batmobile sold for more than $4 million at an auction!) That tradition continues with the newest version driven by Robert Pattinson in The Batman. According to Pattinson and co-star Zoë Kravitz, the new Batmobile is one amazing machine, and Pattinson could hardly contain his excitement the first time he got to drive it
The Batman is now playing in theaters.

Started playing Multi-Versus the other day. It's not Smash Bros. but it ain't bad!
Multi-Versus is basically Warner-Brothers' Smash Bros. Following the Smash fighting game formula with a few changes of its own. Particularly how it leans more towards 2vs2 team battles and the fact it's a Free-to-Play game.
Free-to-Play?! (Also not entirely bad.)
Characters are unlocked by playing the game and being rewarded in-game currency of gold. The real life cash currency (called Gleams) is there mainly for cosmetics or instant character unlocks.
One thing I appreciate is how you can play any character, unlocked or not, in the training mode. That way you can test play a character before you decide to purchase them. You can even preview character skins too!
Sure you can spend money on the game to unlock stuff, but I'm fine playing the game and unlocking the few characters I really want through the in-game unlock system. Maybe one day I will cave and buy a skin or two if I find something I have to have. Ironically I just recently finished playing through Injustice 1 & 2, so I'm all for the DC characters in this game. Fingers-crossed they add Shazam or the original Teen Titans cartoon version of Slade to this game one day!
Bots? BOTS?! BOTSSS!!! (Yes, this game has AI Bots.)
Thankfully this game does have AI bots AND you still earn rewards for fighting them. 🙏🏼Very useful for people like me who shun human interaction. Also fun, you can team up with a friend to do Co-op VS AI matches and you get bonus XP and rewards for pairing up with friends. Yay for friendship!
It's TV, not Video Games! (Weak Stages & Music)
One HUGE difference between Smash and Multi-Versus is this game gets a majority of its material from TV shows and comics, NOT video games. Stages aren't too crazy and the music is extremely boring. TV shows don't have catchy OSTs like video games do. Take Smash Bros for example, it has TONS of amazing video game soundtracks to listen to while you fight. Multi-Versus just plays generic epic orchestral music half the time. Very few themes catch my attention. The Batcave stage plays Batman's theme song and yeah I like it, but I've heard it a million times. The music in this game in general just doesn't catch my attention while fighting.
As I mentioned stages can be a bit boring too, but there's hardly any stages at this point. To be fair the game just launched as is still in beta, so I won't count that against it. In the end Multi-Versus is more about the characters being the driving factor of the game, not the stages and music.
Final Thoughts (Fun so far!)
I've only played like 2 days so far and yeah, its not Smash Bros. It is still a free-to-play game, but I can say I am enjoying it. Being a beta, there isn't a huge amount of content, but I do look forward to seeing what all they add to the game in time. At most it feels like a fun game to load up every now and then, check out new characters, play some matches, get daily rewards, and play around with friends.
Best way I can describe it is it's a fun brawler that's Smash-like, but differs enough to stand as its own little game.
#MultiVersus#my thoughts#I'm enjoying it#playing with my Gamecube controller#feels right#Xbox ONE controller plays fine too

My favorite thing about reading Dicks thought process vs literally how everyone else views him.
This is the least exaggerated version of this I will willing produce.
-older gen JL: thinks wing is dependable, charming, intelligent and a great leader, impressed how much he’s grown and how well he’s done in the hero world
Heroes his age: the golden standard that everyone tries to match up to and fails at one point in their sidekick-hood before accepting yeah I’m not Dick Grayson and having him lead them in a hero team. The defacto person to look towards in a crisis situation, manages tasks efficiently and doesn’t let personal details affect him. He’s cool, calm and collected while still being the most empathetic man on the planet.
Heroes younger than him: straight up awe. if the heroes who saw his awkward teenage phase, discowing and are privy to his love life info. How do you think people who just saw ‘Mr perfect’ without any of the painful growth to get there and since about 9 billion things have happened since Dick was Robin people have too much to talk about to ever bring it up. I see their thought processes going something like this
-oh my god is that nightwing like THE nightwing like Robins big brother nightwing like the leader of the titans nightwing is he looking at me oh my god he smiled at me wtf wtf wtf until they hyperventilate
(Source how Kow talks about dick Grayson like 99% of the time- ignore all Dan Dido works )
Batkids: awe with a side of insecurity bc that’s the gold standard and how tf are you supposed to get there. Even if you’re an amazing fighter like Cass, the leadership skills, ability to talk people down, make more allies than enemies, infiltrate, lie, cheat, steal, put on a million different masks and come out whole.
How does he know what he’s doing? How does he look so calm and collected when the worlds ending
Batman and Superman (remember when they co-parented in the 60s yeah me neither): like uncomfortable amounts of pride like the type of pride that feels too big for your chest as well as implicit trust.
For B specifically Dick is his crowing achievement as Batman
VS
Dick Grayson at any given moment pre Tom Taylor run: everything is my fault, I suck at everything, I’m never good enough to stop bad things from happening to the people I love it’s all my fault and I will never be able to stop it. My life is an accidental trolly problem except I didn’t know it when I started, I didn’t mean to press any levers I didn’t know what I was doing I am a burden who must make himself useful as an apology.
Like Dick is in a constant spiral of how much he hates his limits and how he just isn’t ever going to be strong, fast, smart or good enough while everyone is staring at him with heart eyes like omg it’s nightwing <3

Longitudinalwaveme Reviews Some More Old Comics (and One New One), Part 2
Batman #321, “Dreadful Birthday, Dear Joker...!”
The story opens with Commissioner Gordon receiving an invitation to the Joker’s birthday party. “Black tie optional, funny hats mandatory”. A few seconds later, everyone in police headquarters doubles over laughing, the victims of Joker’s, well, Joker gas.
Batman is on the scene only a few seconds later, and starts punching out Joker’s goons. Unfortunately, by the time he’s finished doing this, both Joker and Commissioner Gordon have disappeared.
Eminently Quotable Joker: “Ah---the Batman! What an expected surprise! And what a waste of a perfectly good window! Couldn’t you have used the door?”
As Joker leaves in his Jokermobile, the police officers tell Batman that the Joker also captured Robin earlier that day (by pretending to be a woman with car problems!)
Meanwhile, Selina Kyle, Lucius Fox, and Alfred are talking when the Joker bursts in and kidnaps them as well. Notably, Selina mentions that she’s been having terrible headaches.
Selina Kyle wakes up in a room with Batman; the other kidnapees wake up in the Joker’s “Ha-Hacienda” on his “victim-go-round”.
Eminently Quotable Joker: “Tomorrow is my birthday, and by way of celebration, I intend to eliminate all you who’ve crossed me, while all of Gotham watches! It’s not exactly the catcher’s mitt I really wanted...but it’s a pretty fair second place! HAHAHAHAHAHA!”
Hawkman stars in a Hostess cupcake ad!
The Joker murders one of his own henchman with his “BANG!” flag gun for not laughing at his joke.
Eminently Quotable Joker (in response to Robin saying “You’re out of your mind!”): “Gloriously so! Isn’t it wonderful?”
In order to get his audience, the Joker put an ad in the newspaper that states that the “Harlequin Baking Company” will be inviting all of Gotham to sample its wares at the Seaside Coliseum. AND IT WORKS, because everyone in Gotham has the IQ of turnips. A bazillion people come to the Coliseum to get free food.
Joker dramatically reveals himself to everyone and explains that he’s going to blow up all the people he hates with a giant cake bomb. Then Batman arrives and offers himself in exchange for the other hostages. This goes exactly how you’d expect it to go, but Batman manages Batman his way out of the trap, saving both himself and all of his friends.
Joker runs away and jumps into a boat. Batman follows him, they fight for a bit, and then the Joker apparently blows himself up. But he’s not dead, because nothing can kill the Joker. Batman even says so.
This would’ve made a great episode of B:TAS.
Batman #322, “Chaos--Coming and Going!”
And now for something completely different!
Catwoman looks at a bunch of old newspaper clippings of herself, as the comic hints fairly subtly that she might be unwell (just as her headaches last issue did).
Meanwhile, a van is delivering issues of the tabloid The Gotham Guardian...when a thrown bundle of newspapers is intercepted by a boomerang! Captain Boomerang is in Gotham City!
The two men in the van react by promptly trying to run Digger over....only for him to slice their van in half with a boomerang!
Digger yells at them to tell their boss that this was only a warning: the mysterious boss owes him a million dollars, and he wants it in 24 hours or else.
Then Batman shows up out of nowhere and he and Boomerang get into a fight. Digger distracts Batman by using his exploding boomerang to damage a nearby building. This causes some rubble to fall on one of the drivers. Batman goes to rescue him, and Digger vanishes.
Green Arrow stars in a Hostess fruit pie ad!
Batman talks to Alfred about Captain Boomerang, telling him to ask Lucius Fox to find out who owns the Guardian, since he’s probably Boomerang’s next target. He also refuses to call the Flash in for help. “The night I can’t handle a punk like Boomerang is the night I hang up my cowl!”
Catwoman goes to a doctor and it’s confirmed that she is, in fact, dying. She has less than a month to live and the only cure is some Egyptian herbs that have been lost to time.
Meanwhile, Captain Boomerang lets us know that he hates Gotham. “Lor’, but I hate this cronky town! I never would’ve come her from Central City if it wasn’t for my million quid!”
Apparently, Captain Boomerang set up a retirment fund for himself and is ticked off that has money was subsequently stolen.
“It’s really rum--downright ironic! The one time I play the game by their rules--and it’s me who gets taken for a sucker! Well, nobody crosses “Digger” Harkness--and gets away with it intact!” That’s our Digger!
Also, he has a giant boomerang hidden under a tarp.
Catwoman goes to the museum to see a display about cats...and conveniently, some ancient Egyptian medicinal herbs are there. Catwoman determines to take them so she can save herself.
Batman asks the most Irish Irishman to ever walk the pages of the comic book about where he might be able to find Captain Boomerang, but he hasn’t heard anything. Then Alfred calls Batman and tells him that Lucius has discovered that the Gotham Guardian is owned by a corporation which serves as a front for a guy named Gregorian Falstaff.
The man in question is eating dinner at a hotel when he is rudely interrupted by Captain Boomerang, who knocks out Falstaff’s bodyguard and demands his money. Falstaff plays dumb, claiming that the whole thing was an unfortunate accident and offering to write him a check. Boomerang insists that it’s cash or nothing (since he doesn’t trust Falstaff). Then Batman shows up, and Digger throws a smoke bomb boomerang that distracts Batman long enough for him to knock him out with another boomerang.
“You gave it a fair dinkum try, cobber-but fair ain’t enough when you’re dealin’ with the likes of me!’” Didgeridoo! Crikey! Steve Irwin! Can you tell I’m Australian yet?
Selina Kyle tries to call Bruce but can’t get ahold of him, so she decides to take matters into her own hands and pulls out her Catwoman costume.
When Batman comes to, he’s been tied to the giant boomerang.
“Nothin’ permanent, mate--you’re simply tied to my giant rocket-powered boomerang! Only Flash’s super-speed saved him from the original--and without super-powers you’ll never escape this improved version!” So...which one of the giant boomerangs you used to launch the Flash into space are we talking about here, Digger? Because there’ve been at least four at this point.
Boomerang launches the boomerang into the air and it explodes. Digger is naturally convinced that he’s killed Batman, only for Batman to promptly prove him wrong by showing up alive and well. “Nobody could possibly survive a flight on my Doomerang!” Oh, Digger...
Batman explains that he survived by “maneuvering my bonds toward the Doomerang’s rocket-jets--and the ignition-flames freed me! Then I simply slipped away under the cover of all that smoke before the Doomerang took off!” I love that Batman also calls the thing a Doomerang (with a totally straight face, mind you.)
Then Digger throws a boomerang at Batman at the same time Batman throws a Batarang at him. But because Batman is Batman, he wins the boomerang duel and knocks Digger out. Way to take away Digger’s only accomplishment there, Batman. It’s like if Superman won any of his races against the Flash.
Batman decides to investigate Falstaff.
Meanwhile, at the museum, someone who looks like Catwoman is stealing one of the exhibits....
Flash #286, “The Color Schemes of the Rainbow Raider”
This issue introduces the greatest villain of all time...the dreaded Rainbow Raider!
After a long day at work, Barry Allen is heading home...only for an alarm to go off at the Centrex Art Museum! Barry has to promptly go into action as the Flash as Barry thinks about how tired he is. Apparently, his new police chief, Darryl Frye, has made him work overtime three times in one week alone.
Suddenly, a rainbow appears, bewildering Barry, as it hasn’t rained for the past week. Barry runs inside the museum to find the guards crying inexplicably. Barry deduces that the thief has been altering their emotions and realizes that this is probably not one of his established Rogues.
Sure enough, he soon comes face-to-face with the Rainbow Raider!
“Welcome, Flash! I didn’t think you and I would be meeting so soon...but sooner or later we were bound to clash! Allow me to introduce myself! I am the Rainbow Raider---the most colorful criminal this city’s ever seen!” Oh, Roy. You’re so amazingly silly, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Roy shoots a beam of blue light at Barry, who somehow deduces that this was what enabled him to mess with the emotions of the guards. Barry dodges the blast of blue light, but it hit and knocked out by a blast of black light.
The police are suitably baffled by the Rainbow Raider, who, incidentally, signed his crime scene with “The Rainbow Raider was here!” That’s amazing.
Meanwhile, the Flash runs home, for the Rainbow Raider has...uh....sucked all of the color out of his body! Somehow! Wha?
Meanwhile, in a mobile trailer, Roy is gloating to himself. “Now I know I’m ready for the big leagues--on a par with seasoned criminals like Captain Cold and Mirror Master!” Uh...sure, Roy.
Batman and Catman star in a Hostess cupcake ad!
“Roy G. Bivolo is compelled by higher motivations--like art appreciation!”
Roy reveals that he suffers from achromotopsia, a rare form of colorblindness that means he sees the world entirely in greyscale. This fact apparently scuppered his burgeoning artistic career, because the art critics of Central City have never heard of black-and-white artwork even though it totally exists.
Also, Roy’s dad was apparently a, quote, “leading world-renowned optometrist”, and he tried to create goggles that would allow Roy to see color. He passed away shortly after Roy turned 21; having finished the googles just days before.
When Roy tested them a few weeks later, he found that they hadn’t cured his colorblindness...but that they could shoot out “bands of multi-colored solid light particles that I could literally “ride” through the sky”. Roy then uses his father’s notes to unlock even more abilities with his goggles. Eventually, his mother also passed away, and Roy decided to turn to crime.
“Since I was robbed of a brilliant art career as a painter--I think it’s only fitting that I rob others....rob them of the pleasure they’ve derived all these years from priceless works of art I myself have never been able to enjoy! If I can’t see them in all their glory---then neither will anyone else!” Roy...that’s insane.
Barry Allen fails in his attempt to flirt with Fiona Webb, then exposits about pseudoscience. “The color black appears black because it absorbs the light waves of all other colors...without reflecting them! Those black beams the Rainbow Raider enveloped me with must’ve had a similar effect--saturating my body with radiation that prevents me from reflecting any and all light-waves...leaving me totally colorless!” SCIENCE!
Barry uses makeup and hair day to make himself look normal. As a result, he’s 20 minutes late to work and gets chewed out by his boss.
Also: “The unnatural inner-vibrations from this color drain are steadily sapping more and more energy from my molecules by the minute!” More SCIENCE!
Barry is about to get to work when he hears about the opening of the Skytop Art Gallery. Assuming that this would be an ideal target for the Rainbow Raider, he goes into action as the Flash.
Roy has created a distraction by using his emotional manipulation powers to get all of the art patrons to fight each other while he escapes. Barry runs up a building and onto Rainbow Raider’s rainbow...whereupon Raider shoots a blinding light at him, causin him to slip off the rainbow and almost fall to his doom. Luckily, his ability to vibrate through anything saves his life, as he manages to vibrate through a green car he was about to land on.
Barry then finds that he’s turned totally green. ‘I must’ve been vibrating on the precise wavelength of the color green when I passed through this heap--somehow allowing me to regain my capacity to absorb green light-waves!” SCIENCE! He then starts running through vehicles of other colors to regain his capacity to absorb those light-waves, too. Since Raider is colorblind, he can’t figure out what the Flash is up to.
When Raider takes one last blast at the Flash, the effects restore him to normal, and Flash is able to make quick work of the Rainbow Raider.
I love the Rainbow Raider so much.

Fic meme!
I was tagged by @shitpostingfromthebarricade. Thanks, this was fun!
how many works do you have on AO3?
61. Now I have to add more words to this line or it becomes a giant number. Oh, tumblr, never change.
what’s your total AO3 word count?
527,746. Half a million words. Damn.
how many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
On AO3? 14, though some are fusions. The primary ones are Les Mis, The Professionals, MCU, Vikings, and Star Wars.
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. Grounds for Dismissal (exr coffee-shop AU)
2. Friday I’m In Love (exr fake dating AU)
3. But I’m Hopeful Yet (exr wrong suitcase AU)
4. Pining for You (exr hallmark holiday movie AU)
5. Still the Same (exr White Collar AU)
Gee, do you see a pattern here?
More below the cut, as we said in the olden days...
do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I want to, I swear!! But the process goes like this: I see the comment and I have to sit and bask in the warm happy glow, and then I get distracted while thinking of something to say and suddenly it’s been two years and then it feels a little awkward, right? So this is just to say: If you have ever commented on my fic, I see you and I love you and I cherish every word. Thank you.
what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I am bad at angst. Probably the fics with the saddest endings are In Fire (exr Pacific Rim fusion) and We Will Become Silhouettes (Professionals episode-tag drabble--it’s not clear without context, but they sort of explode at the end).
Honorable mention to Even After All These Years, which has the angstiest beginning.
have you ever received hate on a fic?
I once got scolded in an AO3 comment for using the fandom tag correctly. Also someone yelled at me on ff.n for mentioning America in a positive context in a Les Mis songfic. (There were so many better reasons to yell at me for that fic, tbh.)
do you write smut? if so what kind?
The highly fraught and overly emotional kind. Also sometimes the iambic pentameter kind, or the alliterative verse kind.
For years I could only get myself to write smut for the semi-annual p*rn battle that was held on dreamwidth. It was super-handy for shutting up my inner editor and locking my inhibitions in a cupboard somewhere.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
Scraped to a random website, yeah, but not stolen.
have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Grounds for Dismissal was translated in to Chinese, and a few other fics have podfic versions, too!
have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not to completion, but writing with friends is a joy even if we never finish things.
what’s your all time favorite ship?
Don’t make me choose, it’s mean. But Enjolras and Grantaire have had my whole heart for quite some time now.
what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
All of my as-yet-incomplete Les Mis fics are in a shared word doc. It is longer than my total AO3 word count. There’s a college professor AU (exr, of course) that has gotten hugely bloated and might or might not be fixable.
But I will finish the indulgent Batman AU someday. Mark my words.
what are your writing strengths?
Banter! And replicating a voice or a style.
what are your writing weaknesses?
Action and smut. What are bodies? What do they do? How many limbs to they usually have, again? I don’t even know.
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Storytime! I was the only non-Classics major in my Latin class, and my professor would regularly start writing shit on the board in Greek. I would have to raise my hand and remind him that I couldn’t understand it.
And that’s all I want: to understand what I’m reading. Whether the author uses translations or context clues, or just indicates in the header or the notes that you need to know multiple languages to understand the fic, I’m cool with it.
(Also consider not italicizing words from other languages when you put them in a sentence. Daniel Jose Older has a great 2-minute video on it here.)
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
Somewhere in my parents’ house is a blue spiral-bound notebook with a printed label that says Star Wars Novel on it. I think I was 11 or 12 and it was a Young Jedi Knights continuation. So...that one.
what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Usually, whatever fic I’ve finished most recently. But I’m really proud of The Glorious People’s Republic of the Cafe Musain. I can’t claim a hundredth of Terry Pratchett’s skill, but trying on his style was an absolute blast, and there are some lines in those fics that I’m still genuinely delighted by.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League Review
Zack Snyder’s Justice League otherwise known as The Snyder Cut is directed by Zack Snyder and is co-written by Will Beall and Chris Terrio. The film stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa, and Ezra Miller as the titular characters of the Justice League. Other cast members of previous DCEU films like Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, and Jeremy Irons also appear in the film. The definitive version of Snyder’s Justice League follows our heroes as they must come together in stopping Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) from unleashing Darkseid (Ray Porter) and his army of Parademons onto Earth. Anyone knows that the Justice League film that came out in 2017 was not good and felt off with what Zack Snyder had envisioned for the DCEU. The Snyder Cut is without a doubt night and day better than what had previously come before and gives the creator that put together this universe and characters the rightful story it deserves.
I’ll begin by saying the biggest improvement from the 2017 version is the character development for all the characters. We know the characters of Batman, Superman, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman and we love the performances from these actors. In the Snyder Cut we see Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) more fleshed out and given backstories that were missing in the 2017 version. Ray Fisher is fantastic in this film and is the heart of the story who goes on the biggest character arc of the film. Ezra Miller also gets more screen time as we see more of Barry Allen and what his life is like outside of being The Flash. Even Steppenwolf has more to do and is given more background that makes the villain more of a threatening presence to our heroes.
Like with any Snyder film the visuals pop and glare when you see them on the screen. Snyder has a great eye for visual storytelling and the look of this film is completely different than the one in 2017. 2017’s film felt more glossy and lighter in it’s visual aesthetic, here this feels all Snyder and how the world of Apokolips and Darkseid look are fantastic. There are certain shots of the film you can frame on the wall as a painting or have as a background on your phone or computer. The action scenes are not chopped down or silly looking in this film, they look better and feel more realistic and intense. I’ll also add in saying the score from Junkie XL is terrific and incorporates new elements into the themes for Wonder Woman and Superman, but also creates themes for new characters and a rousing theme for the Justice League as a whole.
I’ll be frank and say the run time and pace of the film may be the biggest issue for viewers, it wasn’t for me. Also, if you’re not a fan of Snyder’s previous DC films this may not steer you in the direction of enjoying this film. However, I still think anyone who’s a comic book film fan should check it out and make up their own mind on how they feel. This film had a long way to get where it is and you can’t knock the non toxic fans for doing what they did to get this out there and have WB give Snyder the green light to put this out into the world. Through the campaign there was also about half a million dollars raised for suicide awareness and mental health and that alone should be commended. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is an achievement for many different reasons and it’s a film that took me on an epic four hour adventure that I enjoyed.

Will an “Aggressively Anti-Snyder” Warner Stop the SnyderVerse?
https://ift.tt/33xFSwf
Say what you will about Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but the eponymous director’s streaming superhero redux managed to branch the DC Extended Universe movies off into its own tangential timeline, which has since been dubbed the “SnyderVerse” by the fandom that now passionately hashtags for its restoration in the studio’s main continuity. While recent revelations about Snyder’s rough relationship with Warner make said restoration unlikely, the director doesn’t entirely shut the door on such a notion.
We know that Snyder, once the driving creative force behind Warner’s DCEU, was already the odd man out with the studio by the time a personal tragedy incited him to relinquish the director’s chair of 2017 megamovie Justice League to the controversial tenure of Joss Whedon, but a recent comment from the director has stamped the idea with a powerful punctuation. While Snyder’s focus right now may be this month’s release of his new feature, Netflix-bound horror film Army of the Dead, one promotional interview in particular, with Jake Hamilton, saw him field the inevitable SnyderVerse question with an answer that’s rather inauspicious for its advocates.
“Warner Bros. has been aggressively anti-Snyder, if you will,” reveals Snyder. “Clearly, they’re not interested in my take. But I would also say that they certainly weren’t interested in—I would have said originally—in my take on Justice League. They certainly made decisions about that. I love the characters and I love the worlds and I think it’s an amazing place to make a movie and it’s glorious IP, so there’s that.”
Indeed, Snyder’s status as persona non grata with Warner was bluntly revealed, rendering the mere existence of Zack Snyder’s Justice League even more of an industry anomaly. The film, a four-hour tour-de-Snyder streaming offering that hit HBO Max back on March 18, was the culmination of nearly four years of persistent tagging of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut by fans of Snyder’s darker DCEU vision to press Warner to release the director’s pure vision of the film to contrast with the trimmed-down Whedon-directed theatrical release. Ultimately, proponents hailed the once-mythical manifestation of the Snyder Cut as a triumph—opacity of its streaming metrics notwithstanding—and their efforts have switched to a new hashtag campaign, #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, since it was revealed that Whedon’s film, not Snyder’s, was still considered Warner’s canonical version. It’s a development that obviously didn’t sit well with Snyder’s vocal fandom, which has become empowered by its achievement of essentially having willed the Snyder Cut into existence.
“I don’t know what could be done as you go forward other than, I think the fan movement is so strong, and the fan community is so—the intention is so pure, and I really have huge respect for it,” Snyder muses on the significantly narrowed chances of his return to the DCEU. “I would hope that cooler heads would prevail with them and that they would see that there’s this massive fandom that wants more of them, but who knows what they’ll do.”

Does Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead Trailer Tease a Zombie Sex Scene?

Snyder does seem to offer his fans small silver lining for some kind of reconciliation of the SnyderVerse. However, it’s important to remember that his fallout with Warner was the culmination of an initially auspicious working relationship that saw him tapped as the primary creative fulcrum for efforts to concoct a lucrative, Marvel Cinematic Universe-like franchise of shared-continuity DC Comic movies beginning with his directorial tenure on 2013’s Henry Cavill-starring Superman reboot, Man of Steel. While that film’s worldwide gross of $668 million worldwide wasn’t especially impressive against its $225 million budget when all expenses were taken into account, the studio still stuck to Snyder’s plans. Indeed, Snyder was going bring Batman into the fray, played by a big star in Ben Affleck, for a crossover-setting quasi-sequel that would become 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, that film’s $873.6 million worldwide take wasn’t a significant improvement to its Batman-less predecessor against an upped $250 million budget.
Consequently, the backs of studio suits had effectively turned by the time Snyder got to work on follow-up Justice League. Warner’s once-accommodating approach was significantly altered, resulting in the tightening of Snyder’s creative leash, since the studio had attributed the poor performances of the previous films to the director’s bleak, iconography-imbued approach. Thusly, since Warner wanted to protect the increasingly-expanding budget it had invested, production of the ensemble-driven third film became a battle between Snyder’s movie moroseness and the studio attempted to lighten his tone by injecting comic relief moments to make it into a popcorn-friendly crowd-pleaser. Therefore, the studio habitually nixed many of the ambitious, plot-diverging concepts that would eventually surface in the Snyder Cut. Deepening the divide, DC Entertainment creative chief Geoff Johns and Warner Bros. co-production head Jon Berg were deployed to “babysit” Snyder; a dynamic that became irreparably damaged upon the death of his daughter, Autumn.
Of course, even on the back of team member Wonder Woman’s solo film success earlier that year, Whedon’s 2017 Justice League movie fatalistically flopped, having grossed $657 million worldwide, failing to make a lofty $750 million break-even mark. While Warner would likely have preferred to leave that film in the past, especially since they’d found success and acclaim in the solo movie arena with Wonder Woman and, a year later, with Aquaman, the eventual manifestation of Zack Snyder’s Justice League came about due to substantial support—notably from the film’s stars—and possibly a “in for a penny, in for a pound” mentality to salvage the $300 million-budgeted box office boondoggle in some manner. While said cinematic salvaging would cost Warner an additional $70 million to complete its visuals, the Snyder Cut certainly got people talking.

Consequently, one might be left to wonder if Warner—perhaps after a few more years passes in the rear-view mirror—eventually returns to the mentality that, having already invested an insane amount of money in the SnyderVerse films, that there might be something salvageable. After all, Snyder recently revealed his plan for the never-realized proper Man of Steel sequel to bring city-bottling cyborg Brainiac to the big screen for the first time. Considering how Warner’s plans for its DC live-action films and television shows (e.g. HBO Max’s Green Lantern) are broad but rudderless—especially on what’s considered canon—there remains an ever so slight chance that someone at Warner might just revisit the SnyderVerse. For now, though, such a notion is dead on arrival.
