I pulled a copy of 20.000 leagues under the Sea out of my dad's bookshelf when I was 15. It was in german, from 1977 and falling apart a little bit.

My dad read it in his teens or very early 20s. He has this strange policy of only ever reading a book once. I guess if your memory is as good as his you can do that.

When I first read it I knew nothing. There wasn't a blurb on the cover and the dust jacket was long lost. In all honesty, I only began reading because I found the illustrations pretty.

It's been almost 8 years since I pulled that copy out of the bookshelf. I've since read it multiple times (in german and English) (my first tattoo was inspired by it!). Everyone who knows me knows about this book. Even now, almost every time I visit my parents it comes up between me and my dad.

Last time we spoke about vacation destinations and I said I'd love to see the Moskstraumen Maelstrom by Norway because you can visit and I think its beautiful to watch and hear and he immediately goes "Ah! Nemo!" With such glee.

"Not new continents, but new men[people]" is a common statement between us. Now more than ever.

The thing is i am okay with living in my current reality but i have some specific characters that i have in my desired reality.

Yes yes and yes. You technically can’t shift anywhere permanently since you’re not put into any reality permanently, so don’t worry about getting stuck and such. Permashifting is just when you make the decision to not shift back, you can still shift back to your or if you really want to. Hope this helps :)
