Now it feels like we’re celebrating the 25th Anniversary 😍

This new art for an upcoming collaboration with Karatez is just simply stunning. The theme is (very obviously) “idol” and I personally love the futuristic pop concept they’ve added to the outfits. Although exact date and merch details haven’t been shared yet, they shared a few layouts of the key art.

The outfits are also great this time around because of their little references to the partner Digimon’s Perfect evolutions. Listing them down one by one as always.

Taichi: The blue markings on his jacket plus robotic arm markings on his right sleeve are a nice shoutout to MetalGreymon.

Yamato: We see WereGarurumon’s pattern on his jacket and a few belts wrapped around his hands that captures the punk-grunge vibe of WereGarurumon well. It may be Yamato’s affinity to music, but he looks extremely in his element in this art, it’s not often we see him so raring to go in official merch art (he’s more of a soft smiles guy usually).

Sora: Her gloves and the red bandana on her arm coupled with the feather in her hair are clear shoutouts to Garudamon. It’s kinda funny to me that being the girl who’s crest is a heart symbol, she’s making a victory sign while Mimi and Hikari are both making different types of finger hearts 😆

Koushiro: Honestly they were really subtle with the reference for him and even twitter couldn’t exactly answer my doubts so I’m gonna have to see Koushiro stans step up and answer whether the reference in his outfit limited to the markings on his jacket resembling AtlurKabuterimon’s chest?

Mimi: I think she’s the one with the most easy to catch references, her skirt resembles Lilymon’s and her hair tie looks like Lilymon’s flower canon. I love that she’s making the big finger heart because it’s just so very Mimi. If Yamato suits the passionate side of being an idol, Mimi is definitely meant for the cutesy visual vibe that can make fans go crazy over just a wink and a smile.

Jou: He’s wearing three belt like bracelets around one wrist like Zudomon which makes his a minimal reference though not as subtle as Koushiro’s. I do feel that they could’ve done a bit more with his look, maybe add a horn to the side of his headset? I also can’t wait to see the full art for each kid individually cuz I do think him and Yamato are wearing similar bellbottom pants!

Takeru: The feather on his headset and the yellow suspended straps are a decent reference to HolyAngemon. Considering that they wanted to keep the outfits limited to one colour per kid, I think this is the best way they could slip in the reference, though I wouldn’t have minded a few rings.

Hikari: The feather on the headset, the corset-ish belt around her waist and her gloves are very nice references to Angewomon. Keeping Hikari’s innocence as a kid intact while referencing a Digimon that is undoubtedly considered one of the most sexiest mons in the franchise would have been really tough and I salute the illustrators for coming up with this design! I also like the OG Korean finger heart she’s making, such a cute look on her.

The cherry on top are each of the Digimon partners holding supportive cheering goods for their kids. Piyomon’s love for Sora goes hard with her big name banner. Meanwhile, Agumon and Palmon kept it simple with haoris, Tailmon and Patamon too decided to go the simple route with light sticks. Gabumon, Gomamon and Tentomon seem normal from afar with their hand fans but when you get a closer look on all the hearts around Koushiro’s name on Tentomon’s fan, you know the three spent time making those themselves.

All in all, a pretty amazing illustration to be able to get merch of!

But wait that’s not all, andGallery has also teased a future cafe collaboration with Digimon Adventure on their twitter, more info will be announced on 19th Feb but they did share a preview of what to expect.

Fandom Shipping Polls - Mimi Tachikawa Shipping Analysis (Poll I + Poll II)

As pointed out in the main post, every single Chosen Child will get their individual analysis post to check on the status of the current popularity of their ships. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Mimi, shall we!  

The overall results / spreadsheet

Disclaimer: As the “Someone from 01/02″ and “Others” options from poll 1 and the “Someone from 01/02″ option from poll 2 have been excluded from the final analysis due to redundancy reasons and all results were culminated in another “final count”, the results will not be 1:1 to what the polls look like:

Overall votes: 127 (approx. 111 in sum after the exclusion), the main poll got 89 votes, the secondary poll got 38 votes.

The “Others” choice in the main poll received 4% (approx. 4 votes) and 2% (approx. 1 vote) in the secondary poll. The comments/tags did not specify any preferences here (aside from characters that were already part of the main choices).

Ship Analysis

1st place: As you may have guessed, I had already started to prepare the graphic designs a few days before the polls had ended - and I actually did expect Koushiro to win this one, considering how many times he had tied with Jou and actually surpassed him in the votes for the majority of the run-time. However, Jou (22%) picked up speed in the last few days and won with a lead of three votes in the end. Within the tumblr fandom - and especially throughout the last year -, the ship has gained visibly more attention than it has in other internet spheres, especially Japanese centric. Considering how their bond is displayed in the anime, framing their arcs to intertwine at several points in the timeline around the theme of “selfish choices vs own choices”, it is not surprising that they are viewed as viable romantic options for each other as well. They do discover their roles as supporting characters while also supporting each other just splendidly, with tiny hints of (mutual) affection sprinkled in, making it quite an appealing ship.

2nd place: Koushiro (19%) came in as second choice, despite the fact that he had led the poll by a marginal lead several times. And that is not surprising at all - as mentioned in his own analyis already, Koumi is considered to be one of the most popular Koushiro centric ships world-wide. This is due to their set-up in the series as being odd-balls of the same age while simultaneously bouncing off of each other very well as one of the go-to “opposites attract” dynamics. Additionally, Tri canonically made Koushiro crush on Mimi, solidifying a consistent fanon-headcanon (which usually goes the other way round, with her having a crush on him instead). While the portrayal of the crush was not appreciated everywhere equally, they have always been going strong for valid reasons. 

3rd place: For the first time, we actually have an undeniable tie, as both Sora and Taichi received the exact same number of votes (14 = 13%). While Sora had comfortably remained as sole heir of the third spot for a long time, Taichi had slowly but steadily caught up to her - leaving several choices behind that will be thoroughly mentioned in the Honorary mentions section. Sora’s lead is easy to explain, as both girls have been supporting each other and growing together throughout the series, displaying a gentle and loving bond despite their obious differences in character and design. Taichi on the other hand may appear to be more of a subtle choice in canon, but enjoys a lot of popularity as potential partner for Mimi in fandom, due to their rare, yet endearing interactions with one another.

Honorary mentions: Here we have quite a number of interesting characters, such as Miyako (who had tied with Taichi for fourth place for quite some time, but ended at 9%), Meiko (7%), Yamato (6%) and Michael (5%). While Miyako, Meiko and Michael are usually shipped with Mimi due to their foundations in the anime - with Miyako and Meiko being clearly enchanted by her and Michael and her bonding during her time in America -, Yamato is among the male fanon favourites. As Honorary mention among the honorary mentions, Takeru (2%) can also be mentioned.

“The 1 vote squad”: This spot is reserved for for Ken (1%) and Wallace (1%).

“0 votes go to...”: Hikari, Daisuke and Iori received 0 votes each.

What did the other polls say?

Mimi won Jou’s (38%) and Meiko’s (42%) polls, came in second in Koushiro’s (21%) and (technically) Sora’s (18%) and also finished third in Miyako’s (17%), thus making her one of the most represented choices in the “higher tiers”.

While Taichi and Yamato scored higher in Mimi’s own poll, she did not receive as many votes in their respective polls (5% and 4%), but still counts there as Honorable mention.

She was more of a niche choice in the polls for - surprisingly - Iori (2%), Takeru (1%) and Daisuke (1%). 

In the polls for Ken and Hikari, she received 0 votes - just like Hikari did in her own, thus ruling Mikari out as viable ship completely.

Notable additions / comments / thoughts

While her polls did not receive the most amount of votes, it is quite clear that Mimi inherits the reputation as currently being one of the most popular Adventure characters overall. With 127 votes, Mimi came in fifth after Taichi, Ken, Takeru and Daisuke, and even though the overall numbers are still just a comparably small sample size, it still makes her the female character with the most votes - and the most diversity in the results so far. While Jou and Koushiro were never threatened to be surpassed as first and second place, the competition between them - as well as between Sora and Taichi as third place - had been tough. Plus, several characters (Miyako, Meiko, Yamato and Michael) surpassed the “niche” option of 1-2 votes, indicating that there is quite some variation in the way how and with whom people like to ship Mimi. There is also the (in my opinion very important) notion that she’s a highly popular choice not only in the polls for the male characters (Jou and Koushiro in particular) but also in the polls for the female characters (Meiko, Sora and Miyako in particular). Which is absolutely backed up by her canon portrayal, as she is having some of her most emotional character development moments during interactions with other female characters - while also displaying quite a tendency to be affectionate and physical with them. With some male characters, she may not share as many interactions in comparison, but due to her personality structure, openness, kindness and sincerity, it is absolutely understandable that the fandom enjoys the potential her relationships offer. Still, I really hope to reach a wider audience if I choose to repeat the polls once the fandom is not as quiet as it is right now.

The comments in the tags have only referred to the already mentioned choices (”MIYAKO” and “SORA”) in all caps in particular). So the “Others” option did not reveal any other potentially preferred suitors. This leaves room for speculation, but usually, the option is reserved for OC ships or for when people prefer to not ship a character at all or when they’re considered asexual (which will definitely be a future option to include as well!)

Draw Me Closer

Characters: Yamato x Taichi (w/ Mimi, best supporting actress <3)

Summary: A club with bright lights and a flashy theme. Butterflies, idols, and dance pop. Yamato was suckered into setting foot in this scene, but whether he realized it or not, he knew there was only one reason to be drawn to it.

Once again, Yamato found himself in a place he least expected to be in on a Saturday night. He stepped into the lobby in his black button up shirt and dark jeans and observed nothing out of the ordinary from the staff and other guests, though he was mentally prepared for whatever it was that would come next.

It came to him as no surprise when he turned toward Mimi when she called for him. Her outfit was simple, a light spaghetti strapped tank top and a mini skirt and she let her long, wavy tresses flow down. The only thing added was a pair of white embroidered gloves on her hands that were cut to reveal her fingers. When she twirled in excitement and gave him a big smile, Yamato couldn’t help but be reminded of a spritely fairy. If only Mimi had a headband and a pair of wings.

Except the wings in this case were attached behind the ears of the headphones. Mimi held two of them on her wrist, and a pair of black fingerless gloves in her other hand. 

Yamato blinked at her, reluctant. What in the world did she talk him into this time? How silly was he going to look in this get up?

The staff called to them, signaling that the event was about to begin. Mimi glared at Yamato now, holding out her hands towards him. In the pressure of the moment, Yamato grabbed his pairs of headphones and gloves and put them on, then followed quickly behind Mimi as they went through the doors and into the darkened room.

Lights of blue, purple, and pink surrounded the room, where Yamato observed a large group of people wearing butterfly headphones of different colors and the same gloves on their hands. A young, female voice that he recognized announced her introduction as the night’s main performer and disc jockey through his headphones, and when he looked up towards the large screens elevated above he saw the virtual figure wearing her sleeveless collared top and mini skirt, her long twin tails of teal hanging on either side. The cheers from the crowd surrounded him as the music began to play.

So Mimi brought him to a Hatsune Miku-themed event. Yamato looked around for a few moments as he listened to the upbeat music in his ears and everyone around him began to dance, their butterfly headphones bobbing and waving around to the music. He had never been to a “silent disco” before, and he was intrigued at seeing dancing as they heard the same song in their ears.

Then, Miku gave a shout out to the dancers listening to the other station, to which there were less cheers. Curious, Yamato felt around the ear of his headphone to find a switch. When it clicked, a song of a different beat filled his ears along with the soaring sounds of an electric guitar. He dug this station already. 

Mimi’s cheers were louder than the song in his headphones, and Yamato saw that she was dancing with Jou and Sora, whom he had expected to see, especially with Mimi’s talent to convince their circle of friends to go anywhere she asked. Yamato waved at the three of them and walked on, bobbing his head to the music. He also passed Koushiro who was sitting by himself, but Koushiro was paying no mind to anyone else as he listened to the music on his own. 

When the next rock song began to play, Yamato recognized it and began to sing along. He continued to pass people by, scouring through the faces of the people dancing as a couple or in groups, hoping to find the face he was hoping to see. Yamato was surprised that this face had yet to show himself, especially when his hair was so easily spotted even in the densest crowd.

The music transitioned into a different song, though Yamato continued to sing. But the crowd of people seemed to part in front of him, and that was when his eyes caught onto a gaze of chocolate brown, his lips singing along to the same song.

Yamato stopped in his tracks, his lips parted in surprise. Taichi had stopped singing along, his expression appearing to match Yamato’s. Little did he know, Yamato found himself and Taichi making their way towards each other, and the flashing lights and surrounding people seemed to fade from view. 

The butterfly earphones looked sillier on Taichi than Yamato thought they did on himself. Taichi even wore a disproportionately small top hat on the side of his head, which he admitted was not Mimi’s idea as Yamato had thought - Taichi thought it would fit the theme of the night.

Still, Taichi wore the black on blue shirt and jeans to complement. Taichi even wore a nice tie to go with it. The whole outfit worked too well. One of the things Yamato loved about Taichi was that he found a way to make himself look good even in offbeat situations, and Yamato found himself breathless. 

When they stood face to face, eyes still locked on one another, Taichi smiled, singing to the lyrics sounding in Yamato’s ears. Yamato felt a chill on the back of his neck. That was another one of the things he loved about Taichi; aside from some pop songs that Yamato would kick him out of the room the moment he sang them, Taichi had the same taste in music as Yamato did, and he found it endearing to learn that Taichi sang along to a lot of the songs he did.

The more Taichi’s lips moved as he sang, the more Yamato yearned to be closer to him.

Yamato grabbed Taichi by the wrist and began to move for his new search. He waded his way through the sea of people with Taichi following closely behind, his eyes scanning for an ideal spot. In an area where the dancing crowd loosened, he spotted a place to go, and there he headed.

Turning a corner a few feet from the dance floor, Yamato found a small space where the strobing lights didn’t hit, away from the wandering eyes of his friends and from anyone else. He wasn’t in the mood to dance, anyway. It was a space for only him and Taichi, who stayed close behind Yamato the whole time. When Yamato turned around to face Taichi again, there was little space between him and the wall behind him. Taichi reached toward Yamato’s headphones and clicked the switch, changing the station back to Hatsune’s music. It was the type of music that Taichi annoyed Yamato to death with, but Yamato felt like he could tolerate this song, its pop beats with the piano playing the background. What was the song called? “Magnet”? Yamato didn’t want to bother with asking Taichi, not when their gazes remained fixed on each other.

Taichi wore a smirk this time, looking as though he knew exactly what Yamato wanted. Yamato moved closer, the rhythm of the bass and drums bumping in his ears, the beat of his heart pounding in his chest. He met Taichi’s fingers at the tips with one hand, and held Taichi’s chin with his thumb and forefinger of the other, their noses nearly touching. 

Taichi had taught him not to frustrate himself with what drew them to each other. How they could clash in disagreements yet Yamato still wanted him around. How in one moment Yamato couldn’t stand him, but in the next he wanted to feel his touch. Yamato had learned to run with what he felt he wanted to do, and at that moment with the music swelling and feeling Taichi’s warm breath soft, Yamato closed his eyes and gently pressed his lips against Taichi.

Gawd, he loved those lips that kissed back. Those lips that kissed him so deliciously urging him to come back for more. Yamato kissed Taichi slowly, savoring the feeling of Taichi’s soft touch, his tongue brushing his own. 

When Yamato let himself pull away, he only drew back to Taichi’s lips. Then, when he broke off the kiss, Taichi gave them only a few seconds to catch their breaths before he leaned in once again. They succumbed to each other, their arms wrapped around one another and holding each other tight with their bodies pressed together, like two magnets that were never meant to be apart.

EXTRA! DIGIWEEK DAY 5 - CROSSOVER

Let's do some headcanons, shall we? Last week @imaginedigimon posted these headcanons of a mixed Asian/Hispanic Sora and it led me to this:

In the Heights... I LOVE this musical so much <3 All the latino and dancing and vibing and yes! Here's the trailer:

And like I said, those mixed Asian/Hispanic headcanons gave me the reason to think of In the Heights x Digimon Adventure crossover headcanons. And what better day to write such a post than on Crossover day 5 of @digiweek! So here goes.

The story

The story here is basically the same. There's a guy (Usnavi) with a store, inherited from his deceased parents, who has this dream to go back to the land he was born in, thinking that's his dream. However he was raised on this block in this city he's living in now, so eventually he's torn between leaving or staying. Simultaneously all the other characters have their own aspirations and dreams, but they shouldn't forget where they came from. That's the main theme and story, the characters will be quite the same from the movie/musical, but with some changes here and there suiting the Chosen Children and the relationships between them (for now I will only cover the 8 Digimon Adventure 01 crew members).

I want the set up to be a little different though. So it's not like a latino block on the Island Manhattan in NYC, but it's more like a city or village on it's own. Something like Big Hero 6's 'San Fransokyo'... Maybe 'Santo Dotokyo'? Could be. Anyway, it's a mix of Latino and Japan (that's actually a very weird combination. I like it!).

The characters

Usnavi / Taichi Yagami: Of course my boy is the lead! He's smooth yet awkward, fierce yet cute, determined yet clueless. Sounds like our goggle headed fella right? So Taichi owns the store, like a true work-a-holic works very very hard. He's friendly, always supporting and beaming positivity. He knows the whole community and the whole community knows him, everyone well aware of his father's dream to patch up the bar on the exotic island they came from. Taichi though is still figuring out his dream and is torn between staying for the community (and his love interest...) or leaving for his (father's?) dream. Plus let's not forget he has some very serious salsa skills like a true latino! The dancing is on, gosh how much I love my Taichi swaying...

Nina / Hikari Yagami: Taichi's younger sister, kind and innocent, who followed their mother's dream to study abroad. The community believed in her and fully supported her like the little light she is, she being the first one to 'make it out'. However during her time abroad she starts to feel lonely and left out, gets homesick and travels back to her hometown and brother with the idea to never go back abroad. Though she just needs the courage to go through and that convincing might come from her community, her brother and her lover.......

Sonny / Koushiro Izumi: In this universe Koushiro, who works with Taichi in the shop, is a 'cousin' from Taichi and Hikari! He has been abandoned by his own mother -who probably was someone with a drug addict- but then he was taken in by Taichi's and Hikari's aunt and uncle..! Yes, this makes Kae a blood relative to Taichi and Hikari, being Yuuko's sister (I love that idea, although it makes both Taishiro and Koukari impossible...). Koushiro is a smart kid, quiet, but always there with his words right on time. He wants to go to college or university badly, the smart kid he is, but because he was never officially adopted and therefore isn't fully registered, his chances are low... Taichi and the community might be of help here.

Vanessa / Sora Takenouchi: WEPA VANESSA SORA! In the musical Vanessa aspires to become a fashion designer. Oh hey, that's such a Sora! Where Hikari wants to come home, Sora desperately wants to leave everything behind to start anew. She works in Mimi's beauty salon only to make money so she can move to a bigger city. It's kind of like a rebellion against her traditional mother who wants her to stay in the community and take over the flower shop. However she might be staying as fashion inspiration can also come from within the community and a certain someone she loves *cough*Taichi*cough*, but doesn't want to admit (this is a very self indulgent Taiora AU thank you very much).

Daniela / Mimi Tachikawa: The salon lady! Or boss is better. She is an entrepreneur pur sang and makes sure everyone looks good with beautiful nails and shiny hair! She's fierce, doesn't take no for an answer (no nonsense policy yup) and always has her eyes and ears open. And her mouth too, because the girl looooooves to gossip! Especially with her two salon companions (from which one HAS to be Miyako -and yes Mimi and Miyako are the lesbian couple-), ¡No me diga! Also: she absolutely loves to tease employee Sora by telling untrue rumors about Taichi just to see how Sora reacts. So sly Meems.

Benny / Takeru Takaishi: This might come as a surprise, because to be honest Taichi would fit Benny so well. But I went for Takeru as Benny, because Takeru can be just as smooth -and kinda sly-. Takeru is one of Taichi's best friends if not thé best friend (I love to explore that dynamic)! A best friend with a love interest in the best friend's sister a.k.a. Hikari. They are secret lovers who are not as secretly in love (Nina Kari and Benny Keru sitting in a tree... k i s s i n g) as they think they are. Takeru works across the street in a record store (yes, this is a big difference from the musical itself) where he takes over the community radio station in the morning. There he has a story telling podcast, telling fictional stories based on the stories of the community (Mimi always informs him with the latest gossip). Eventually he wants to go to college, just like Hikari studies abroad, to become a writer.

(Graffiti) Pete / Yamato Ishida: This is even more of a stretch, but bear with me! Graffiti Pete is a true artistic lone wolf! Spraying art on walls through the whole city and it's absolutely fabulous. He's Takeru's older brother, but was raised by his father after their parents splitted up, and also friends with the gang. Though he may have made some art on the window shutters from Taichi's shop... However, Yamato is not only a graffiti artist, he's also a musician, always 'borrowing' stealing records from the shop Takeru is working. Yamato is just a very mysterious guy, but also a very nice friend with artistic and deep emotional help from unexpected corners.

Piragüero / Jyou Kido: Haha okay, this is weird..! Actually this is great role for Daisuke, but because we're here giving the roles to the Adventure 01 cast, this one goes to Jyou. Simply because piragua (which is shaved ice) guy has a heart of gold and is super reliable, one of the oldest ones on the block, one who has seen it all. He's also a bit silly, doing this horrible work on the street, while he failed to become a doctor (so sad), but he brings joy to others! And also great advice, especially when it comes to following dreams no matter how big or small. Jyou is the one who doesn't let you forget where you came from!

And there are so many more headcanons I could come up with, so this might gets a continuation eventually. But for now, this is it (:

Drabble: Clothes Shopping with Koushiro

So I’m reading my Nanowrimo 2019 draft for Tri: Integrity Lens.  I found a scene where Koushiro, Eimi, Mimi, and Takeru take Koushiro clothes shopping.  It’s pretty fun, so I’m sharing it below the cut.  Enjoy!

Koushiro trailed a step behind Eimi, Mimi, and Takeru, trying to buoy his mood. True, he wanted to learn about style and find his, whatever that entailed.  But choosing clothing from his screen was so much more comfortable, especially with Mimi and Takeru shooting excited glances at him, as if in anticipation of a show.

Takeru, being voted the most knowledgeable of menswear, chose the first store. Koushiro wondered if it would contain nothing but hats, and was relieved to find a fairly normal-looking selection of clothing inside.  A young, male employee approached, dressed a bit too punk for Koushiro's tastes. Still, the man looked good, and Koushiro’s eyes darted to Eimi, gauging her reaction to his outfit.

But she simply greeted the employee and shifted focus to the wares. "Hmm...  Shopping for someone else really is different.  Does anything catch your eye, Koushiro?"

"Uh."  Truthfully, Koushiro was too keyed up to look at the clothes.  The employee stepped closer, and Koushiro stepped back, walking into a rack.

"Are you looking for anything in particular?" the man asked.

"Um."  Koushiro's eyes flicked to Eimi, who smiled encouragingly.  "Er-  N-no."

Taking mercy on him, Eimi said, "We're browsing, for now.  Can I let you know if we need help?"

"You got it!" he replied.  Koushiro watched him go, heading towards the cash register area in the back of the store. The next breath came a little more easily.

Takeru clapped a hand to his shoulder.  "You okay?"

A rush of shame replaced Koushiro's anxiety.  "Yes," he sighed, pretending to look at the clothing. "I apologize for...  I don't know why I freeze up like that."

"It's totally okay!" Mimi said.  "I have a few friends like that.  I don't get it, but it's pretty common."

"That's true," Eimi said.  "Lots of people feel anxious when talking to strangers.  But we're here to help, so let's take a look."

Eimi approached the nearest shelf and unfolded a pair of pants, holding them out. They were forest green and featured an abundance of pockets.  "The pockets seem useful, and I like the color, but...  I dunno, do you think they look sort of bulky?"

"Totally," Takeru said.  "Aniki might be able to pull them off, but they would wear Koushiro-san."

Eimi scowled.  "Hey. We're here to be supportive."

Koushiro knew that Takeru wouldn't hurt his feelings on purpose, so he tried to ignore the sting of self-consiousness.  Yamato was tall and well built, with broad shoulders and slim hips.  Koushiro was hardly taller than Eimi, and while his body shape had changed from a child’s to a teen's, he was still scrawny.

Eimi folded the pants and put them back.  "Take a look, Koushiro."

Koushiro tried, he really did.  But he found himself following Eimi, trailing a few steps behind, looking at whatever she selected.  He felt more comfortable around her, and frankly, he was overwhelmed.

After a while, Mimi flounced towards him, her arms full of clothes. "Koushiro-kun!  Do you like any of this?"

Takeru approached, laughing.  "He can't see any of it!  Let me help."

Takeru picked up a shirt from the pile.  It was a button down in warm, sunset orange.  It immediately felt familiar, but wasn't the point to try new things?

"Look!" Mimi cried.  She poked the shirt's left breast pocket.  A row of tiny embroidered pineapples lined the top of the hem.

A dopey smile split Eimi's face.  "Wow, I...  I love it? It's nostalgic, but the shade is easy on the eyes...  And the little pineapple detail is so cute!"

"Hmm..."  Eimi clearly liked the shirt, so Koushiro would buy it, but he thought the point was to try new things.  "I like it," he said slowly.  "I'll try it on.  But... Is there something similar that's less plain?"

A wicked grin split Takeru's face.  "So glad you asked," he said.  "This way."

Mimi followed, still showing her selections.  Koushiro chose a few to try on, guided more by Eimi's reaction than his own tastes, since nothing had caught his eye yet.

Takeru stopped the group by a rack that burst with color, like a rainbow condensed into fabric.  Koushiro blinked, his body's attempt to spare the oversaturated cones in his eyes.

"Um," Eimi began.  "Takeru, we're not going on vacation."

Koushiro tentatively lifted a hanger and the attached shirt.  It was a button down made of lightweight, soft material. "It seems comfortable," he said with approval.

"Er- well, yes," Eimi agreed.  "It's sort of like... a lounge item.  People wear them on vacation."

"Oh, yeah!" Mimi chirped.  "They're popular in Hawaii, I always see them there.  That's why there are so many colors and floral designs."

Koushiro placed the shirt back on the rack, quite missing Eimi's relieved expression, and the way it crumbled when he selected a different shirt.

He held up a red button down covered with palm leaves and pineapples.  "It's definitely not plain," Takeru said, his voice oddly delighted.

Koushiro examined the shirt and added it to the "try on" pile.  "I think I like it," he said.  

"You could sure use a vacation," Mimi said.

Koushiro lifted a fist to his chin.  "Is that a requirement to wear these?"

"Nope," Takeru said, grinning.  "I mean, they're selling them with all of the other clothes, right?"

Koushiro turned to Eimi to confirm and found a stiff smile.  "I guess... that's true..."

Reassured, Koushiro selected another shirt.  This one was black and decorated with pink flowers and orange goldfish. Eimi made a strange sound as he added it to the try pile.  "Is something wrong?" Koushiro asked.

His girlfriend coughed, then cleared her throat.  "Excuse me."

Koushiro nodded, then returned his attention to shopping.

 Mimi and Eimi waited outside of the changing room while Takeru browsed and Koushiro tried on his impressive collection of items.  His selections were eclectic, but they were united around a theme: everything Koushiro picked was gaudy.

Mimi had only just returned to Japan, and Eimi had no say in her wardrobe when Mimi lived in Odaiba.  But from pictures and the little Mimi had seen in person so far, Eimi's tastes were as sophisticated as a high school freshman's could be.  Eimi seemed to prefer solid colors, and made statements with structure instead of pattern.

And she was quietly watching while her boyfriend picked out Hawaiian shirts and button downs adorned with giant goldfish.

Mimi leaned into Eimi with a Chesire cat grin.  "How you doin', girl?"

Eimi stared blankly back.  "Goldfish, Mimi."

Mimi's smile widened.  "I saw 'em.

Eimi held her hands up helplessly.  "It's not just me, right?  That shirt's an abomination."

Mimi laughed, then slapped a hand to her mouth to smother the sound.  Truthfully, that kind of shirt was gaining momentum with male models and idols- in short, it could be charming on boys whose livelihood was pulling off avant garde looks.

Koushiro was likely to look like a walking, on-fire fish tank.

"If you tell him you don't like something, I think he'd put it back," Mimi pointed out.

Eimi sighed and slumped against the wall.  "I know.  That's why I can't say anything.  The whole point of this is for him to figure out his style and interact with the clerks. He shouldn't dress to please me."

"True," Mimi said.  And she really did agree.  As a friend, Mimi was proud of Koushiro for trying something new.  And yet...  Wasn't it a girlfriend's duty to prevent her guy from wrecking himself?

Footsteps from the hallway had both girls looking up.  Koushiro stepped into the store area, holding his arms awkwardly out.

Mimi's manic smile was meant as a release, giving her just enough control to avoid falling into hysterics.  She glanced at Eimi and watched a tiny piece of her soul visibly depart.

"U, um."  Eimi cleared her throat a few times.  "I think those might be work clothes?  Like, for manual work."

Koushiro wore a utilitarian pair of overalls over what looked like a white thermal shirt.  It was true that overalls were a hot trend in women's clothing right now, but Mimi hadn't noticed it leaking into menswear.  Frankly, Koushiro looked like he had taken a wrong turn and ended up in Tokyo instead of the farm.

"It's comfortable," Koushiro said.  "And it seems unique."

That's because no dudes wear that here! Mimi's vision began to swim, obscured by a film of hysterical tears.

"D-do you like them?" Eimi asked.  Koushiro's brow knit, his brain churning over clothes instead of data for the first time.

"Um... I think so.  Maybe I'll look again..."

Koushiro turned around, and the girls were silent until they heard a door close beyond the wall.  "Oh, my god," Mimi whispered.

"I have to tell him," Eimi whispered back.  "I have to, right?  Like, morally obligated?"

"What if he pairs them with the goldfish shirt?" Mimi asked.  What little color Eimi had to spare drained, leaving her looking ill.

"I'll say something," Eimi declared.

Favorite Male Character: Taichi, no questions here. He looks like your typical shonen protagonist, but he actually has such depth and great writing and character development that he became my fave without realising it. (Remember the SkullGreymon episodes, anyone? That was the absolute best.)

Favorite Female Character: Mimi.

Least Favorite Character: I could go the easy route and pick an antagonist, but y’know what? Let’s make it interesting. I love all the Chosen Children, they’re all incredibly compelling characters and you’re bound to relate to at least one of them — but if I had to pick a least favorite one, in Adv, it’d be Hikari. Her character theme was light/hope, and all the other children already embody kindness in their own ways, especially Sora, for example. Not to mention her character arc and weird powers were just kind of… Weird. I dunno if that makes sense but I wasn’t able to connect with her as much as I did with the others.

Favorite Ship: I mentioned it on another ask but Taichi/Koushiro really is my favorite ship from the entirety of Digimon Adventure, they have a really good and realistic dynamic that’s fun to play with, and are key to each other’s development. 

Favorite Friendship: Yamato/Jou and Mimi/Jou. They’re both relationships that I also like seeing romantically, but they have such beautiful moments. It’s hard to pick friendships in a show that executes all relationships between the main cast so well, but the scenes between Yamato and Jou at the restaurant episodes, with Jou being completely understanding of Yamato’s stress and Yamato crying out when he realises Jou was just trying to be a good friend and help him? They provide such good emotional support for each other and it’s so heartwarming to see. Mimi and Jou had different views than the main group on fighting from Day 1, so when they eventually came together because of it and helped each other grow was really enjoyable.

Favorite Quote: “Don’t be sorry. I don’t have any regrets. If I hadn’t met you, my life would have no meaning. I’m glad you and I were friends.” by Wizarmon. Aka, how Digimon fucking killed me.

Worst Character Death (if any): See above. And Angemon. ;-;

This made me so happy you have no idea Moment: Honestly, Sora’s character as a whole. It’s usual to have female characters depicted as softer and more emotional than their male friends, but they actually gave her a legitimate conflict that lines up perfectly with her attitude and backstory and it’s hard to find anything that compares to it. 

Saddest Moment: When they have to say goodbye to their Digimons..... Way to stab me on the heart. 3

Favorite Location: Taichi’s house. I really liked how we got an insight of it, lol. And the episode there with Hikari and Koromon was adorable.

Besties we got new Digimon Adventure merch art!!!

After sort of a dry spell in since April due to all the collabs actually getting their proper run in cafes/stores etc, there is finally some excitement for the 25th Anniversary celebrations again (tbh they should've announced this on the livestream smh smh) . The theme this time is "marine" and it's a nice follow up to the Digimon Tamers merch that was announced about a month ago.

The vibe of being part of a crew is coming off really well through the outfit design, but the key point is the pins of their crest and the type of hat that the kid is wearing. If you look closely, Koushiro, Takeru among the boys are not wearing the officer style hat but berets and their pins are missing as well, similarly for Hikari her beret hat is differently style than the other girls with the missing pin. Koushiro and Takeru are also not wearing ties like the other boys but the sailor knot, which leads me to believe that this is a reference to the their roles on the ship, implying that Koushiro, Hikari and Takeru still lack a designation.

When we look at the other kids, the difference in roles becomes much clearer.

While Taichi greets us with a perfect salute, Yamato takes the helm. A very interesting take where Taichi (as the Captain?) sets direction and Yamato ensures that they follow his desired path. Tbvh I could write a whole essay about why this specific depiction of their roles is so groundbreaking, but for now I'll just end on how whenever they're depicted as a team, the sense of equilibrium between the two of them is never lost.

PS: I also love Agumon's little lop sided hat, he is trying his best to support Taichi and that's just adorable.

Next we have Sora and Mimi and again the detailing in their positions to their actual roles in the show is very visible. Sora is on lookout duty, keeping watch against any unchartered occurrences, making sure that the crew can be alerted before disaster falls. Mimi on the other hand, is most likely the stewardess, and is keeping the morale up with her cheers and support! Love the little crests flags she is waving, and the groupings of the crest is definitely interesting 🫣 Jou with the map of their course is very apt as well, in the show we see him attempting to find his footing as the voice of reason between Taichi and Yamato arguing many times, so now he's here making sure that the two stick the job they have been given, ready to correct the course if any tensions rise.

Koushiro, Hikari and Takeru are for me the most interesting of the lot for the reasons pointed out earlier. While the other kids are portrayed as taking some sort of role on the ship, these three seem to be enjoying their times as cadets (in training?). Especially Takeru and Hikari, who are the youngest, are having fun playing around with their partners. Koushiro on the other hand, definitely wants to contribute in some way, and maybe the best way Taichi and Yamato could get him to stop tailing them was to put him on fishing duty lol.

All in all, this is a great piece of illustration, I'm glad we got some more new outfits! If someone has a more in depth understanding of how things work on a cruise ship or similar, please share your thoughts and let me know how you interpret the roles here!

For consistency, I would've preferred to see Taichi and Hikari together, and then Sora and Koushiro but this is a rare Taishiro TCG win so I guess I'll let them take it.

But I still did come up with a reasoning base on why these duos were chosen.

The protector theme can be seen from Koushiro and Hikari's perspective, where they look up to Taichi and Sora respectively as their guardians who guide them towards the right path (even in this case it would make much more sense to put Taichi and Hikari together imho lol) . Considering how Taichi and Sora were portrayed as the glue who kept the group together and with Koushiro and Hikari suffering from a kind of solitude unique to their respective family/health past, having someone like Taichi and Sora who will reach out to them when they're feeling lost or confused makes them suitable for the "protector of light" theme.

For the hero theme I don't think I need to dig deep because really they picked the perfect pairings to represent it. Yamato will always be the person Takeru cherishes the most, and in turn for Yamato, Takeru will always be the reason to keep fighting and moving forward, they are each other's heroes and the reason why they have the faith to hope for more. Similarly, Mimi and Jou are often shown to have the same alignments in terms of actions and ethics. Mimi's kind and pure heart gives Jou the courage to be more confident and accept all parts of himself, and by relying on Jou and having him around to steer her towards the right path Mimi gets more freedom to be true to her beliefs. Mimi's support fills Jou with a brighter hope, while she can always rely on him to play the hero when needed.

Fandom Shipping Polls - Jou Kido Shipping Analysis (Poll I + Poll II)

As pointed out in the main post, every single Chosen Child will get their individual analysis post to check on the status of the current popularity of their ships. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Jou, shall we!

The overall results / spreadsheet

Disclaimer: As the “Someone from 01/02″ and “Others” options from poll 1 and the “Someone from 01/02″ option from poll 2 have been excluded from the final analysis due to redundancy reasons and all results were culminated in another “final count”, the results will not be 1:1 to what the polls look like:

Overall votes: 109 (approx. 89 in sum after the exclusion), the main poll got 69 votes, the secondary poll got 40 votes.

The “Others” choice in the main poll received 11% (approx. 8 votes) and 0% (0 votes) in the secondary poll. The comments/tags did not specify any preferences here (aside from characters that were already part of the main choices).

Ship Analysis

1st place: With a huge lead of 34 votes, while basically facing no serious competition at any point of the voting time, Mimi (38%) won this poll very clearly, mirroring her own poll in the process. And that is not surprising;  within the tumblr fandom - and especially throughout the last year -, the ship has gained visibly more attention than it has in other internet spheres, especially Japanese centric. Considering how their bond is displayed in the anime, framing their arcs to intertwine at several points in the timeline around the theme of “selfish choices vs own choices”, it is not surprising that they are viewed as viable romantic options for each other as well. They do discover their roles as supporting characters while also supporting each other just splendidly, with tiny hints of (mutual) affection sprinkled in, making it quite an appealing ship.

2nd place: This has been one of the few cases in which the secondary poll had an impact on the final table, with second and third place being literally just 1 vote apart; Yamato (17%) won this race in the end and even though he was inheriting this place rather comfortable for the majority of the voting time, the third place could have overtaken him if it had gone on a little longer. Seeing how Joumato has gained more attention on Twitter lately, it is no surprise to see Yamato placed here though - as several media forms (the anime as well as the novels and the stageplay) have focused on their relationship. They encourage each other in terms of finding their paths, making their own choices and Jou was even responsible for activating Yamato’s Crest of Friendship in the first place.

3rd place: Our third spot is taken by none other than the famous Bike Girl (16%), one of the few unnamed side characters with only a short appearance in the “Diablomon Strikes Back” movie. However, she left a remarkable impression to a point that was highly appealing to the fandom - a mere passerby character, whom Jou enthusiastically asked for her bike to get Daisuke and Ken to their destination safely. STILL, she stayed by his side for the remaining runtime of the movie, even being shown contributing to the defeat of their enemy while standing next to him... Ending in a very friendly departure that, EVEN SEVERAL YEARS LATER, left us wondering if she wasn’t the mysterious girlfriend he had been referring to all throughout Tri. And thus, it is understandable that said mystery put her so high in the poll.

Honorary mentions: Following up to third place, Jou’s unnamed mystery girlfriend (13%) was pretty close as well - since we never got confirmation on who she was, what she looked like or what her name was, a very popular headcanon of the fandom is that her and Bike Girl are actually the same person, as mentioned above... Thus explaining why the votes were so close together. Other honorary mentions in this section include Sora and Koushiro, who received 4 votes each (5%). Taichi at least received 2 votes (2%).

“The 1 vote squad”: The niche section is occupied by Daisuke, Miyako, Iori and Meiko (1% each).

“0 votes go to…”: Zero votes have been given for Takeru, Hikari and Ken.

Annotations: Nothing extraordinary aside from the fact that Jou’s poll (as well as Iori’s) had been the reason why the secondary polls had been created in the first place. Despite Jou being among the characters who received the least votes overall, the “Others” option had gained comparably many votes (11% with 8 votes).

What did the other polls say?

Jou won Mimi’s poll (22%) only by a slim lead, and finished third in Yamato’s (17%) and also in Sora’s (7%), thus mirroring his own results at least to a certain degree.

In the majority of the remaining polls, he turned out to be a very rare and very niche choice, including Iori (4%), Taichi (2%), Koushiro (2%), Meiko (2%) and Daisuke (1%).

He received 0 votes in the polls for Takeru, Hikari, Ken and Miyako - as the former three didn’t receive any votes in his poll either, neither Joukeru, Joukari or Jouken are considered viable options.

Notable additions / comments / thoughts

Mimi had been almost without any serious competition - at least in terms of characters that actually had a name (or face), which was not surprising in the slightest, as he had been the winning choice in her poll as well. They are a popular choice in the Western fandom (and probably less visible in Eastern fandoms mainly due to the age difference). While Yamato has been a popular option overall, with their ship having gained more popularity recently, he earns his place here as well. Interestingly enough, due to the fact that Bike Girl and Jou’s (mystery) girlfriend were the choices that got most of the votes outside of the main cast, basically every other “main cast” option can be considered a rare-pair at this point  - which the small sample size obviously also contributed to. Thus, I really hope to reach a wider audience if I choose to repeat the polls.

Jou in general is a very interesting case to look at when it comes to the subject of shipping - while he gained a lot more popularity in recent years on tumblr and twitter and has fans who passionately do ship him with fellow Chosen Children, he still received among the least votes overall here (only behind Iori and Sora). This is especially due to him being the oldest character, so he is very unlikely to get shipped with the younger characters members of the cast. On one hand, that explains why “outside” choices (such as a somewhat canonically confirmed girlfriend) have been so popular here - and even though the Mimi/Jou/Koushirou triangle had a very tight race in Mimi’s poll, they had never been as intensely debated as, for instance, the Taiorato triangle. It may also explain why Hikari and Takeru, for example, didn’t receive any votes at all (despite Jou having saved the latter several timesand them sharing a bond due to that). Iori, however, did receive singular votes - which may have to do with him being Jou’s successor of the Crest of Reliability and him being his kohai, despite their age difference being the biggest in the entire series.

The comments in the tags have also only mentioned characters already included in the polls - since the “Others” option in the first poll already indicated lots of interest in outside choices, it is not surprising to see Bike Girl and his girlfriedn being so prevalent, while the “Others” choice in the secondary poll didn’t receive any further votes. So the “Others” option did not reveal any other potentially preferred suitors. Usually, the option is reserved for OC ships or for when people prefer to not ship a character at all (which will definitely be a future option to include as well!)

Could you share a random hc for each of the chosen children? Any plans to make more hero academia type crossover edits?

Hello, thank you for the message Anon! Sorry this was sitting in my inbox for a few days, I've been dying from the heat lol.

Before I get into the hcs, I do have a few more cool Digidestined x a-random-ass-thing edit ideas, but I'm kinda in the middle of an event for a different series and am also low-key waiting for Digi week prompts to drop to see if they could fit in them instead. So it won't be soon, but occasionally I might drop something.

Okay onto the hcs, I've picked a theme which is alternate careers! These are just really random, personal opinions, no hate to the 02 epilogue.

Taichi - Easy, soccer superstar! I mean with the body they gave him Tri, you're telling me he doesn't go on to play the sport professionally? Preposterous, I refuse to believe. He'd be a pretty well-liked celebrity too, his interviews would always go viral for funny reasons and he'd have tonnes of branding campaigns in his hands.

Yamato - So this one is a bit difficult since I have so many different hcs and ideas for Yamato, but gonna go with TV Journalist, like a News Show host. Gets in through the connection of his parents obviously, but his personality changes completely when the camera is on, so he quickly becomes a household name and his show earns the highest TRPs on a daily basis. 

Sora - Wagashi (traditional Japanese confectionary) chef. Obviously has to rebel against her mother for this, but seeing how popular Sora's shop is, eventually her mother gives in and supports her. Her shop's speciality is yokan, and all the different flavours it offers depending on the season becomes a trend among high-schoolers and social media influencers.

Koushiro - To be fair I'm still unclear on what exactly Koushiro does in the canon ( do I care? not really). In my hc he often works as a robotics engineer. He's part of the doctoral research team for a top university and also teaches the under-grad class apart from working on his research projects.

Mimi - My best girl starts out as National level figure skater (thank you Tri promotional art) and eventually becomes a social media influencer who uses her platform to spread awareness about climate change. That's right she's a beautiful athlete, popular celebrity and an environmental activist, no one else could ever get on her level.

Jou - High School Math teacher, I always thought he's a better fit for a mentor figure to young minds than any of the other chosen. He's the student's favourite and is often found standing up against the school's strict policies and helping his students through tough times.

Takeru - This one is difficult since I actually love the idea of Takeru as a writer, but I picked YouTuber/Vlogger for him. His content would range from his daily life to DIYs and book reviews. He starts off as just wanting to do something through high school but a few of his videos on bullying and the education system go viral, and he becomes very popular within teenagers and younger children.

Hikari - A Model and Voice Actor. Scouted at a young age for her pristine looks, she has a steady career of appearing in magazines and being the face of many popular brands. She dabbles in acting a few times but it doesn't lead to much success, however she voices a few anime characters that become popular and earn her a few more roles in the industry.

- Dedicated to my Grandmother C., Z”L*, (*May her memory be a Blessing) 1926 ~ August, 2015 (passed near 89 years old) - Jewish, she also lived through the years of the Holocaust, (1941~1945) and her entire Jewish family got safely through those years. [Not long before WWII ended, she met my Grandpa.] My grandmother was one of my closest family members. When I was little (around 8 years old myself when first watching), she wholeheartedly supported my strong interest in Adventures/Digimon when I was first getting into this series, even if she didn’t know anything about it, (other than small bits I told her) even she could see how much I loved it. (Because she was one of my closest family members, she was also the one who overall learnt the most about my health. When I was, few years after discovering Adventure as a child, diagnosed Autistic and with generalized Anxiety disorder as well, she continued to support me all throughout, educated herself & our other interconnected family about my conditions, and continuously encouraged my interests and growth.)

Original Posters [Mine] commentary: I made this quick A.M.V edit a handful of days ago to this gorgeous song by Miyano, one of my favorite JPN voice actors/singers, {You may know him as: Dent[o] in JPN Pocket Monsters, Tamaki in Ouran, Rin in Free!, Tokiya in Utano*Prince-sama (where this song comes from), Konoha, Haruka & “Clearing Eyes” in Kage-Pro, among many more} mainly made with thoughts of general appreciation for this series in mind. I also made it with thoughts of my Grandmother in mind, who passed late August 2015, (yes, August). Tri had been announced, but wouldn’t yet air until November. I didn’t start much more actively blogging about Digimon until a bit later on, starting from a couple years later, because I was still heavily grieving. However, I still enjoyed reblogging Digimon posts I enjoyed to other blogs I had at the time even in the pre-Tri and early Tri years.

This was made very quickly, so it’s not perfect, has minimal editing, and the 1st Adventure portion is straight from the final battle with no editing done to it, but it fit the music well enough, so I included it as-is for now. I’ll probably re-arrange scenes if I remake it later and include much more other, varied scenes from Adventure, (for example, during end of Yamato’s portion, I was also thinking of the Yamato&Sora+Jou scene from the end of Dark Masters Arc).

(^One of my favorite Adventure scenes regardless of personal favs) But until I can edit those in, I’m just leaving this as it is. The middle portion with 02 is edited slightly more timed to music. A major Tri ending spoiler for the final battle’s result appears during the end. Kizuna is not included in here as of yet, but it may be in the future, along with Adventure 2020. All of this will probably be rearranged in a remake overall, but I’m keeping the general themeing & feel as-is for now, along with the Tri ending scenes.

Because this was made in appreciation of this series and out of respect to and with thoughts of my grandmother, please be respectful when interacting with this post. Thank you.

Crossovers?

Okay, so I like reading Anne Bishop.  Like...  a lot.  She writes dark fantasy romances, and while they have their problems (most commonly recycling character types, being generally opulent/over-indulgent/more than a bit much, and drawing things out waaaay too much in The Others series), her world building is top notch.  

(If anyone is curious, my favorite books from her include The Shadow Queen/Shalador’s Lady from The Dark Jewels series and Written in Red from The Others series.  TSQ/SL expand on some concepts from TDJ’s main trilogy, but in a less high-stakes fashion.  The main trilogy is fate-of-the-world stuff with so much violence and dark themes.  The main characters are powerful beyond belief, but don’t take action against an opponent they could handle because of an honor system preventing interference between realms, which is trying.  While I like the main trilogy, there was something almost... approachable and friendly about TSQ/SL in comparison, as it features comparatively powerless characters whose problems are on a territory scale instead of an... everything scale.  As for Written in Red, it’s an all-around awesome book, seriously, go read it.  My only complaint is the repetition and sometimes needless details surrounding how Meg views and interacts with the world.  The sequels grow progressively slower until the plot moves like molasses, but the first book stands beautifully on its own.)

BUT ANYWAY, I bring it up because I keep thinking about a Digimon Adventure/The Dark Jewels crossover.  I have way too much on my plate, so this is in the ‘playful and indulgent imaginary stage.’  I wanted to write down and share my thoughts, and to ask if anyone... knows The Dark Jewels?  Or would be interested in reading a dark high fantasy fic featuring the Chosen?

In The Dark Jewels series, a small percentage of humans belong to the Blood.  They possess magical powers in return for being care takers of the world.  Each member of the blood has a power level determined by the jewel they possess, and darker jewels are more powerful.  They also have a caste that can shape the nature of their power and even their personalities.

The main trilogy takes place in a time when Dorothea, a dark-jeweled witch, abuses her power, taking control of a territory by spreading her ideology among witches.  The tainted Queens and their followers abandon the Protocol that they follow to prevent abuse of power and serve the world, ushering in a dark age.  The Blood of all castes and species begin to dream of Witch, the mythical woman that walks in the darkness and will restore the honor of the Blood...

So yeah!  There’s your setup!  Now let’s plunk our babies in this beautiful mess, lol!!!  Conveniently, there are many lands in this setting with vastly different names, so I would just create a place for them to come from, leaving the Japanese names intact.  I tried to color code the Chosen’s jewels to their crests, but I had to tweak a few things for the narrative.  Also, I decided not to make a character stronger than the Gray, since dark jewels are so rare and powerful.

Hikari:  A Rose jeweled Queen.  Hikari was hidden away at birth to protect her from Dorothea, who seeks to corrupt or destroy all Queens.  Although she is young and bears a light jewel, Hikari had no choice but to come into power young to protect her people from Dorothea’s machinations.  The burden on her shoulders is unimaginable.

Taichi:  A Gray jeweled Warlord Prince in Hikari’s court.  He was sent into hiding with Hikari and trained to protect her since her birth.  His jewel is uncommonly strong, and even among other Warlord Princes, he is considered aggressive.  Hikari’s safety, the success of her court, and the prosperity of their people are everything to him.

Yamato:  A Sapphire jeweled Warlord Prince.  While he wants to support his people, he harbors resentment towards Hikari and Taichi over the capture of his brother and the resulting damage.  The permanent injuries he sustained in the battle to free Takeru are a secondary, but heavy, complaint.  

Sora:  A Red-jeweled Healer in Hikari’s court.  Her job of healing injuries often includes a psychological element, managing the volatile tempers of people living in hiding.  Although Taichi and Yamato are the chief protectors of their people, Sora is likely the most instrumental person to their well-being.  She has struggled to heal Takeru and Yamato’s injuries and minds for years, along with the resulting rift between them and everyone else.  

Koushiro:  A Purple-Dusk jeweled Warlord Prince.  Koushiro was abducted a few years ago by Dorothea’s followers while performing reconnaissance.  They broke his mind trying to recover information about Hikari and her hidden people.  Hikari’s court desperately wants to rescue him, but were forced to wait until they were old enough to embrace their full power during the Offering to Darkness.  Although frankly, they don’t know how to deal with or help a Warlord Prince whose mind is injured...

Mimi:  A Summer-Sky jeweled Priestess in Hikari’s court.  Generations ago, her family belonged to the aristocracy and produced dark jeweled blood and Queens.  Mimi can’t help comparing their secret encampments and hard, hidden lives to the grandeur described by her parents.  And why does she have the boring duties of a Priestess instead of the important duties of a Queen?  One day, during a supply run at a village, Mimi overhears witches talking about a very different life than the one she knows...

Jyou:  A Purple-Dusk jeweled Warlord in Hikari’s court.  While his skills aren’t on par with a natural healer’s, he is knowledgeable in creating medicines.  He works closely with Sora in caring for his people.  Unfortunately, the enormity of his task leaves him stressed and constantly worried. 

Takeru:  A Yellow jeweled Warlord.  He was captured while distracting enemy forces from Hikari as a child.  Though Yamato eventually rescued him, much was suffered and lost, and his presence can be like a walking divide among his friends.

Eimi:  An Opal jeweled Black Widow.  Abducted in early childhood by Dorothea’s followers, Eimi was secretly trained in the arts of Black Widows while Dorothea destroyed and defamed any Black Widows that she could not control, thereby outlawing a caste of the Blood.  When Eimi’s training took a morbid turn, she began sending her hopes and prayers as deep into the darkness as she could.  One day, a voice answered, and everything changed...

What do you think?  There are some good ideas in there!  I’m not sure if I could handle this without exploding into longfic mode again, though, lol!  I’m also not sure if anyone would be interested in this XD  But it was fun to daydream about!  I’d love to hear thoughts from you!
