Benny would be thrilled by Nick Valentine. Like I know the concept of synths and replacing people would initially shock him but I donā€™t think for long.
Heā€™s not a technology guy by any means but he certainly appreciates it and understands what it can do. Heā€™d be pro-synth and synths at people for purely pragmatic reason at first but seeing some noir detective would have him thinking of all the ways he could improve on his plan if he had that tech for Yes-Man.
If Yes-Man could pass as human heā€™d have no reason to hide him and could even have him buddy up with the rest of the Chairmen! Even if heā€™s found out and House wants him and especially synth Yes-Man out their is a loyalty to them that is only made stronger that Yes-Man looks like them now. Itā€™s also such a complex thing for Yes-Man too now to struggle with ā€œhumanityā€ in a new context and his teacher tragic being Benny Fucking Gecko.

ā€œDid you ever think,ā€ Kyu sets down the glass he had been polishing to make direct eye contact with Kazuki. Or as direct as was possible with Kazuki, who had thrown himself dramatically over the countertop and was staring up through his eyelashes. ā€œthat you arenā€™t the only one whoā€™s afraid?ā€
Kazukiā€™s eyebrows rise so far up that they disappear below his hair. ā€œWhat?ā€
ā€œIā€™m just saying.ā€ Kyu shrugs like this isnā€™t a vastly important conversation, shrugs like he doesnā€™t have the entirety of Kazukiā€™s attention laser-focused on him. ā€œItā€™s something to consider.ā€
Itā€™s silent for a moment as Kazuki contemplates this. And then he sits upright, the conversation demanding proper posture. ā€œWhat does Rei have to be afraid of?ā€
Kyu doesnā€™t say anything, but his gaze bores heavily into Kazuki.
But the question hangs in the air between them. What does Rei have to be afraid of? He has an apartment, a job, and Kazuki. Between those things, there isnā€™t anything he could want for. Between those things, there isnā€™t even anything that Rei needs to do, thatā€™s the whole goddamn problem. He doesnā€™t have to do the dishes, or the laundry, doesnā€™t have to kiss Miriā€™s scraped knees, or tuck her into bed. He doesnā€™t have to do anything because he knows that Kazuki will.
ā€œKyu.ā€ Kazuki says on the end of a sigh.
Kyu lets out his own sigh and leans against the counter. ā€œYouā€™re complaining that Rei wonā€™t help with Miri, right?ā€
ā€œRight.ā€ Kazuki confirms. When Kyu just stares at him pointedly, Kazuki adds. ā€œSheā€™s a handful, but sheā€™s not scary.ā€
ā€œHeā€™s not scared of Miri.ā€ Kyu answers, a wry smile on the corners of his lips at the thought of sweet, darling Miri being scary. ā€œHeā€™s scared of not being a good enough father.ā€
The words stir something in Kazuki. Itā€™s a fear that he knows well, too. Miri deserves everything, every happiness that has ever existed. He, too, is constantly afraid that heā€™s falling short of their precious daughter. Itā€™s not like he has any more experience in this than Rei, not like he has any clue what the hell theyā€™re supposed to be doing. Heā€™s certainly failed as many times as he has succeeded, but those failures havenā€™t stopped him yet.
ā€œThe easiest way to not be good enough is to not try.ā€ Kazuki murmurs after a minute, but some of his bitterness has receded.
The thought of Rei being afraid softens something in Kazuki. Besides the fact that Rei is completely fearless with his own lifeā€” though itā€™s not that heā€™s fearless about losing his life as much as it is that he disregards the importance of his own lifeā€” he doesnā€™t show too many emotions and when he does show them, theyā€™re small. Kazuki had learned to read all of Reiā€™s micro expressions though, had learned how to notice the emotions that he did feel. And it was true that recently there had been more of them.
When Kyu responds, his voice is quiet and somber, his words cutting straight through to Kazukiā€™s heart. ā€œWhat if he tries and heā€™s not better than the boss?ā€ Kyu stares at him, intense. ā€œThe only example he has of a father is the kind of father he doesnā€™t want to be.ā€
ā€œRei would never be anything like that!ā€ Kazuki defends vehemently, slamming a fist down on the counter between him and Kyu. ā€œHeā€™s so gentle with Miri! He would give her anything she wanted without hesitation, and he worries about her. He would never treat her the way he was treated!ā€
ā€œI know that.ā€ Kyu answers. ā€œAnd you know that. But does Rei know that?ā€
Kazuki feels the blood in his veins turn to ice as he considers Kyuā€™s point. Does Rei know that heā€™s nothing like his father? Does he know that the only thing Miri wants from him is just for him to try? So what if he fumbles and makes the most ridiculous rice balls Kazuki has ever heard of? Miri will love it and Kazukiā€™s heart will melt in his chest as he watches the way Rei tries not to smile.
But at the same time, Kazuki knows that Kyu is on to something and honestly, he feels a little silly for not having figured it out himself. Kazuki had been the one to join up with Rei almost immediately after Rei had moved out of his familyā€™s estate, he had seen first hand all the damage that had been done to Rei and his heart. And maybe it was because Kazuki generally thought of Rei as numb that he didnā€™t consider the possibility of Rei being scared, but even that doesnā€™t sit right with him. Because Rei hasnā€™t been numb for a long time, now.
In the beginning he had been, completely and utterly without an opinion at any point. He moved like a robot, did what he was told, and kept to himself all the rest of the time. It was months before Kazuki found out that there were foods that Rei didnā€™t like and even longer before the first time he heard Rei laugh. But now Kazuki did know Reiā€™s food preferences, knew what his laugh sounded like, had seen the warmth of his smile. Now he knew that Rei could play the piano, and he napped like a cat in the sunlight during long summer afternoons. Now he knew that Rei had a quick wit, he just had to listen closely to hear the quips. Rei even sought him out now, inviting him to play games or just seating himself at the table while Kazuki worked on something. He may still do bizarre shit like sleep in the bathtub, but he also valued human connection now.
Rei wasnā€™t the cold, isolated, shut-down person he had been when they first met. And now that they had Miri, he was changing even more right before Kazukiā€™s eyes. He was softening, warming, learning how to be responsible. He was learning to give bits of himself to someone elseā€” he just never seemed to realize that he had those bits to give.
ā€œSo thatā€™s itā€¦ā€ Kazuki whispers, thinking of all the times Rei hesitated when Miri asked him to do something.
He wanted so badly to make Miri happy that he was paralyzed by his fear that he couldnā€™t bring her that desired happiness. He wanted so badly for Miri to have the kind of childhood he never had that he had convinced himself that he needed to be uninvolved, lest he bring the same tragedy to her, too. Every time Rei hesitated, or pushed her off onto Kazuki instead, it came from a genuinely selfless desire for Miri to have the best, and a genuine belief that he could never the best that Miri deserved.
Itā€™s so obvious, Kazuki wants to kick himself for not seeing it. Itā€™s so fucking stupid, Kazuki wants to kick Rei for believing that he was anything other than a gift to both him and Miri. He wanted to kick Rei for not seeing how much they both loved him, how happy everyone was when he involved himself in something. He wanted to kick Rei for not recognizing that Miri felt safe with him, something that he never wouldā€™ve been able to say about his own dad.
ā€œThanks, Kyu.ā€ Kazuki says as he stands abruptly, the chair scraping behind him.
Kyu probably says something in response, but Kazuki is already halfway out the door.
ā€”x
When Kazuki makes it home, he finds Rei seated on the couch, controller in hand, tv muted as he plays his games in clear attempt to not wake Miri who is sprawled out across his lap. Even from the doorway, Kazuki can see Miriā€™s small smile in her sleep, her cheek smooshed against Reiā€™s leg, her arm thrown over his lap.
ā€œWelcome back,ā€ Rei says quietly as Kazuki crosses into the apartment fully.
The apartment isnā€™t as clean as Kazuki wouldā€™ve had it if heā€™d been home all day, but itā€™s also not the disaster he had expected it to be. There was clearly at least some attempt to clean that had been made, and that realization alone makes Kazukiā€™s throat tighten.
ā€œHave you guys eaten dinner?ā€ Kazuki asks, clearing his throat when his words come out a little strangled.
Rei has completely paused his game and is regarding Kazuki wearily, obviously hesitant after Kazuki had stormed out this morning. ā€œThere were leftovers.ā€
ā€œAnd you actually heated them up this time?ā€ Kazuki teases.
The joke seems to diffuse some of Reiā€™s hesitation and he rolls his eyes, refusing to dignify the comment with a response. Instead, he just turns back to the tv and resumes his game. But even as heā€™s playing, Kazuki can feel the way Rei is keeping tabs on him out of the corner of his eye.
Kazuki continues to stand awkwardly at the edge of the couch for a few long seconds, trying to decide how to go about the conversation he wants to have. When Rei pauses his game a second time and turns to him with raised eyebrows and a frown, he decides there isnā€™t a tactful way to go about it and chooses to just dive on in.
ā€œRei, you know that youā€™re nothing like your father, right?ā€ Kazuki says, his voice quiet. He canā€™t quite bring himself to meet Reiā€™s eyes, but heā€™s still looking in Reiā€™s direction.
Which means that he sees the way Reiā€™s lips part in surprise, his eyebrows rising. ā€œWhat?ā€
ā€œThatā€™s what all this is, right?ā€ Kazuki asks, gesturing vaguely to where Miri is curled up against him, feeling his heart swell as Rei looks down at her and his eyes soften. ā€œAll the things you refuse to do with herā€” itā€™s because you think youā€™re doing to be a shit father like he was, isnā€™t it?ā€
Rei is quiet for a long second and this time, the conflicting emotions are so clear on his face that anyone would be able to see them, not just Kazuki. Kazuki had learned a long time ago to give Rei time and space when waiting for a response and so thatā€™s what he doesā€” he waits quietly until Rei pulls together wherever it is that he wants to say.
And even though Kazuki expects his response to be heartbreaking, heā€™s not prepared for how it hurts.
ā€œI didnā€™t have a good childhood.ā€ Rei glances up, but then immediately glances away when he noticed Kazukiā€™s attention. ā€œI was raised to be an assassin. And assassins donā€™t smile, they donā€™t laugh, they donā€™t get to experience or enjoy life. Thatā€™sā€” thatā€™s all I know and I donā€™t want that for Miri.ā€
Honestly, if Miri werenā€™t in his lap, Kazuki doesnā€™t think heā€™d be able to stop himself from dragging Rei into a hug.
ā€œIā€™ve met your dad.ā€ Kazuki concedes with an inclination of the head, his throat so tight that it burns. ā€œHeā€™s not warm or patient, heā€™s not gentle or caring. But Rei, you are. You always have been, even before we had Miri.ā€ Reiā€™s head snaps in his direction, his eyes wide as he listens. ā€œYouā€™ve always been the one to bandage my wounds, or to take care of me when Iā€™m sick. Youā€™ve always put my safety first on a job.ā€
ā€œThatā€™s differentā€”ā€œ
ā€œNo itā€™s not.ā€ Kazuki interrupts before Rei can say anything else. ā€œFor the childhood you had, those things are monumental. And Iā€™m so proud of you for them.ā€
Rei swallows and looks away. ā€œThat doesnā€™t mean I can do shit like cook bentos and heal broken hearts.ā€
ā€œDo you remember what you said to me the first time I tried to bandage one of your wounds?ā€ Kazuki ducks his head a little to catch Reiā€™s eyes.
ā€œThat you sucked at it.ā€
ā€œThat I would get better if I practiced,ā€ Kazuki recalls, completely ignoring Reiā€™s quip. It's actually not that uncommon for Kazuki to remember that day, because Rei's words had been so gentle and unexpected. For a guy who had been nothing but quiet and isolated since they had met, he'd been so quick to try to encourage and reassure Katsuki. "You told me that trying was all that mattered and if I kept trying, I would be good in no time."
Kazuki watches as the point strikes home, as Rei's shoulders hunch up to his ears in a last ditch defense. He watches as Rei shifts, just a little, as if trying to get away from the thought. But he has Miri in his lap and wouldn't risk disturbing her.
"Iā€”"
"Rei." Kazuki finally crosses the distance between them and crouches in front of the couch. He has one hand placed on Rei's knee, the other gently on Miri's back. She stirs in her sleep, her smile growing as if she can feel both of her papas there. She snuggles closer to Rei. "Don't you see that you've already been trying? That's why Miri and I love you so much."
Rei's breath hitches and Kazuki can't stop a wobbly smile as he looks up at Rei's shocked face. "You guysā€”?"
"Love you?" Kazuki repeats, laughing a little. "Thanks for noticing."
"Kazuki..." Rei meets his gaze, even if he still looks a little uncomfortable. His hand finds Kazuki's where it rests on Miri's back, warm as his fingers thread through Kazuki's. "Thanks."
Kazuki's heart beats so hard in his chest that he thinks it might break through his ribs entirely. He's been fortunate enough to love a lot of things in his life. His childhood may not have been great, but it hadn't robbed him of simple pleasures and joys the way Rei's had. Kazuki had been able to experience a lot of things and had been able to love a lot of people throughout his life, but he wasn't sure he'd ever loved anyone quite the way he loved Rei and this family they had created. Because this was the kind of thing that defied all odds, this was the kind of thing that absolutely should not exist, but did. They fought tooth and nail every day to create a better life than the one they had both been given and it was moments like this where Kazuki really realized that they were succeeding.
"Now if you really don't want to be like your dad," Kazuki says as he tightens his fingers around Rei's, "You can learn to do things like the dishes, and how to style Miri's hair."
Rei rolls his eyes, but his smile is the biggest Kazuki has ever seen and it's definitively warm and content. It makes Kazuki think his heart might burst instead, but he loves the feeling. He smiles back at Rei, starting to press back up into a standing position.
But Rei's hand on his his firm, and it doesn't allow Kazuki to go far.
Kazuki pauses, halfway to a standing position, hunched over as he looks at Rei.
"For the record," Rei is looking down at their conjoined hands, his cheeks dusted the same pink as Miri's shirt. "I love you guys, too."
This time, it's Kazuki's breath that gets caught in his throat as he waits for Rei to look up at him. "Yeah?"
Rei sets down his controller from his other hand, reaching out for Kazuki. Kazuki comes willingly, easily, leaning into the space above Miri's head. Kazuki has been lucky enough to love a lot of things in his life, but he's never loved something quite the way he loves kissing Rei with their daughter between them. He's never loved something quite as much as he loves the delighted laugh Miri lets out as she wakes up to her dads kissing above her, the way she throws her arms around both of their necks demanding her own kisses.
And he's definitely never loved anything as much as he loves watching Rei lean in to press a kiss to Miri's cheek, Miri's eyes sparkling as she babbles about how much she loves her papas.
The world may not have been kind to either of them in the past, but they were building a new world of their own and Kazuki was certain that they could change, could break the molds that had been cast for them. With enough love and dedication, he was certain that they could turn their future into anything they wanted it to be. And the way Rei was looking back at him over Miri's head suggested that for the first time, he believed those things, too.

Friend, I know you did not reblog the 22 Dawntrail ask game! So I would like to humbly request more Selenite lore in the near future. Also, what do you think Odette and Selenite would think of each other?
(Teehee after they sent this I DID reblog the dawntrail ask game mentioned. Like a scamp.)
Man, Selenite is still so new she is truly just rolling right along in the rock tumbler! So while I have some ideas many of them are subject to change. Since her first appearance here Iā€™ve already made some changes to her looks and more will probably come! And since S9 as a whole is still so new with limited lore I imagine bits and pieces of her will change as we play more of this expansion. Such is the life of an RP character, tbh, especially an AU version of an RP character!
I have another ask for how Seleniteā€™s readings work, so Iā€™ll save her work for that one.
Anyway:
Her full name is Selenite, friends call her Nite. Does she have a surname??? Probably. Not that you need to know it.Ā
She doesnā€™t wear a regulator anymore. Like many of her fellow citizens, Selenite wore a regulator from a young age. It wasnā€™t until the loss of her parent and the gnawing feeling of missing someone important -- and a few frank conversations -- that she removed it. Sheā€™ll never get the memories of her parent back but she hopes to honor them by feeling any fresh grief.Ā
Seleniteā€™s parent was probably Noneā€™s S9 shard. Details pending.Ā
Unlike Odette, Nite is 100% alive! Wow! A normal heartbeat and body temperature!
Sheā€™s def had some augmentations done! Probably out of boredom. I imagine boredom is a big problem in S9.
The one Iā€™m 100% sold on is her hair not beingā€¦. Fully hair anymore. To emulate Odetteā€™s hairā€™s iridescent sheen, Selenite has fiber optic lights woven throughout that emit a low glow. Practical? No. Cool? Very.Ā
Also since I keep trimming Odetteā€™s hair I think Selenite gets to have the long fantasy hair. You understand.Ā
The other one is her eyes. Odette can see souls/ghosts/spirits out of one eye and I think Nite could as well (this is from their shared ancient) but maybe had her eyes removed in favor of optics upgrades. IDK!! I just thinkā€¦. Cool eyes. You underSTAND!!!
I hesitate about these only because she doesnā€™t wear a regulator and I feel like they are def tied to regulator usage, but this is why sheā€™s in the rock tumbler. Maybe she got them before she took off the regulator and they still work just maybeā€¦ not as well. Much to think about!!
Nite makes a lot of her choices based on Boredom. It's not her greatest trait!!! but it's fine.
She sleeps a lot -- almost like sheā€™s sleeping for two. Always tired. As a result, sheā€™s always got an energy drink in her hand and sheā€™s usually looking for additional stimulants.Ā
Personality wise she is just so chill. Sheā€™s too tired to be worked up, man.Ā
Another reason sheā€™s on the very fringes of a lot of groups like Oblivian, she doesnā€™t have the passion to join something like that fully but she supports in ways she can. Like convincing people death isnā€™t that bad, isnā€™t that scary.Ā
Chill but also prone to pranks and jokes. Big fan of teeheeheeing over here. She loves a bit.
Sheā€™s only left S9 twice and nearly died both times, without her regulator, so she does NOT leave the city anymore. For all her talk about death not being scary it is very much very scary but thatā€™s okay, she just doesnā€™t talk about those trips. No worries, haha!
Beautiful fat lesbian <3
I do not think she and Odette will ever meet. Maybe in the background of each other's shots or something, so to speak. That said I do love a what if!!!
I think they'd get along great. I think they'd fit together so well they were long lost twins. Not without hurdles, of course. Nite is freaked out by the ashkin thing, Odette is freaked out by Nite's freak out because are you serious? Mostly I think it's a lot of bickering. They'd change each other for good.

late night courage

Prompt: First

Summary: Dinner at Tinaā€™s leaves much food for thought for Farah. The conversation that ensues takes a turn that neither of them were expecting.
She never knows what to do withā€¦this.
With people like her, genuine and hopeful and bright. People who choose to be those things, to embody them, despite the experiences they have and the things they've seen that give them every right not to be. Zuri admires them and their spirit that seems to be as sure as the rising sun. She can never quite grasp that kind of strength, no matter how much time she has spent imitating it. She can be warm and hopefulā€¦and genuine, when she let's herself be.
But what's a heat lamp to the sun?
It's nothing compared to the real thing.
And yet, some of them are drawn to her anyway. Like a moth to a flame, not realising that the warmth they want to bask in is not as gentle as the sun. It could burn them to a crisp, because there is such a thing as being too close for too long. It could burn them, even though it doesn't want to. Even though it craves their company, their touch.
It would be easier if she could stay away but she never really can. She never really wants to. So she falls into a familiar song and dance of getting as close as she can without letting them in, giving as much warmth as she can without burning them, keeping her distance when they get too eager and fly closer to the flames than they should. That push and pull that never satisfies but keeps them safe.
How much is that safety worth?
Farah makes her question that everyday.
Zuri is questioning it now with Farah at her side, the back of their hands brushing against each other as they stroll towards her car. Her pinky twitches and she glances at her, her heart stopping for a second when their eyes meet. It's taking everything in her not to take her hand in hers, to feel their fingers intertwine.
She looks away, focuses on her surroundings instead - the sound of their footsteps are accompanied by the chirping of crickets, softening the silence of the night. The sky is dark and speckled with stars, a gentle breeze makes the skirt of Farahā€™s dress tickle her skin, her pinky grazes hers and there's a fluttering in her stomach-
Okay, this isn't working.
Zuri swallows and moves her hand away to hold it in her own instead, massaging her palm with her thumb. She needs to get a grip. They've been alone for what, two minutes? And her impulse control reverts to the one she had in highschool - useless in the face of someone who has an interest in her. She won't be rash about this, not when it comes to her. Not when she doesn't think she can give her what she wants.
The fluttering turns into a churning when she catches the disappointment on Farah's face.
She hates how often she causes that. She never wanted to be the reason she feels that way. But the little disappointments are better than the one that would come if they were something moreā€¦right?
Zuri turns around and leans against the hood of her car, eyebrows furrowing slightly as she smiles at Farah. She returns it as though she was never anything less than content, the streetlight closeby bathing her in a golden glow, tracing the curves of her face and bouncing off of the coils of her hair. God, she looks like an angel.
ā€œDid tonight go the way you hoped it would?ā€
Right, the dinner. With Tina. It..slipped her mind for a second there.
She shrugs one shoulder, peering at the house they just left. ā€œI figured it would go well the moment you agreed to come. You two are pretty similar, I couldn't see you not getting along.ā€
ā€œThat's to be expected when I'm the type of company you keep. Who wouldn't like me?ā€ Farah gestures to herself with a grin.
Zuri shakes her head, laughing softly before they fall into silence. Something about the question lingers in the air between them. Or maybe it's just in her head and Farah is being her usual self. Either way, she doesn't know what to do with it yet.
So she changes the subject.
ā€œSpeaking of the company I keep,ā€ she raises a brow. ā€œWhat were you and Tina talking about when I was gone?ā€
Farah's eyes widen and then she laughs, the sound making her heart stir in her chest and before she knows it she's doing the same. Softly, just like before, so she can hear her laugh ring out around them and imprint itself in her mind again.
ā€œYou're still thinking about that?ā€
ā€œYes, you were being all sneaky about it! I wanna know what was up.ā€
It's a genuine question, despite the timing. Something was definitely going on with them and were a little too enthusiastic while dodging her questions. They're clearly already a duo she'll have to keep her eye on.
ā€œIt's nothing crazy, seriously. We were just talking about you.ā€
Zuri turns her head and narrows her eyes. That's the obvious answer so it doesn't tell her much.
ā€œMe?ā€
ā€œYup.ā€
Farah watches her gleefully, rocking back and forth on her feet. The silence continues for a few short seconds before she scoffs playfully. ā€œDon't act like you didn't know. You mean a lot to both of us, of course we'd talk about you.ā€
Zuriā€™s hands press against the hood of the car as she leans forward and aims a light-hearted glare her way. ā€œI know that I was the hot topic of the night. What I don't know is what about me was being discussed. So spill.ā€
ā€œWe were talking about how you're doing,ā€ her grin softens into a weak smile as she rubs the back of her neck. ā€œOr how you're not doing. In a general kind of way.ā€
ā€œOh.ā€
She doesn't know what to make of that. How did that even come up among the conversations about supernaturals and how wrong books and movies have been about them? Was Tina worried about her? Was Farah? Did something she say make them think they needed to be?
ā€œMan, Tina warned me about this but I thought I'd manage to make it home before caving.ā€
Zuri blinks and looks up at Farah. When did she look away? How did she manage that when she's standing right in front of her, her eyes the colour of honey when it's held up to the sun, framed by long lashes and soft with concern.
ā€œIt's funny,ā€ she continues with a frown on her face. ā€œI've been talking about how busy things have been lately and how we barely get to spend time together, butā€¦it's always been busy for you, hasn't it?ā€
ā€œI don't know, has it?ā€ Zuri can't say it hasn't been busy. The little moments she's managed to steal away for herself feel like they happened months ago, fleeting as the flicker of a light. And even those moments couldn't be deemed relaxing, not when a part of her was holding its breath, waiting for the next threat to her life.
ā€œYou can tell me,ā€ she urges gently. ā€œYou know that right?ā€
ā€œI know,ā€ Zuri sighs. She deserves a more honest answer than that. ā€œI guess it has been busy.ā€
Farah offers her a wry smile and steps closer to her. ā€œThat means this probably isn't going to be as easy in the future.ā€
Wait what?
ā€œWhat? Us?ā€
ā€œOh, uh- well, I mean,ā€ she lets out a nervous laugh, her eyes darting to the ground before meeting her gaze again. ā€œI meant us spending time together but that works too. But now that I think about it, I don't know how easy either of those things have been.ā€
ā€œYou know that isn't because of you, right?ā€ The words rush out of her mouth before she can think or process the surge of shock she felt. ā€œIf anything hasn't been easy, it isn't because of you. You being around is probably the easiest part about all this.ā€
ā€œThat's a relief to hear. I was getting worried for a second,ā€ Farah jokingly wipes her forehead but the motion is too stiff to be playful, the relief too obvious in how the tension in her face eases.
ā€œTrust me, you have nothing to worry about on that front.ā€
ā€œI'm not so sure about that,ā€ she mutters before shaking her head and continuing before Zuri can respond.
ā€œAnyway, what I'm trying to say is - it's okay to not be okay after getting sucked into all this supernatural business. I don't think anyone would be if they went through half the things you've been through. And I hope you know that whenever you need a shoulder to cry on, or justā€¦need me, I'll be there.ā€
She pauses and leans forward, her shoulders raised close to her ears as she smiles sheepishly. ā€œWe all will be, but I am hoping you'd sorta kinda want to come to me first,ā€
She's far too sweet for her own good. Zuri chuckles, her eyes lingering on the curve of her lips before looking back up at her. Warmth blooms in her chest and spreads across her cheeks while she wraps her arms around herself.
ā€œYou'll be the first to know when I need a shoulder, I promise,ā€ she says softly. ā€œAnd um, thank you.ā€
Farah nods and rubs her arm with her hand, her face growing pensive as she takes a breath. It doesn't seem like she's finished yet. Zuri watches her, trying to reassure her. She can wait however long she needs to to hear more of what she has to say.
ā€œAnd about that ā€˜usā€™ā€¦you don't have to worry about that.ā€
Zuris stomach drops when she says that. It must show on her face because her eyes widen and she frantically corrects herself, waving her hands in front of her.
ā€œNono, I'm not saying- what I mean is you can take your time. There's no pressure, I'm not going anywhere,ā€ she reaches up to fiddle with the unicorn pendant hanging from her neck. ā€œBut whatever you decide, whenever you decide it, I hope we can still spend time together like this. For however long we can before some bad guy swoops in to steal you away.ā€
Shit. Zuri doesn't want her to think she doesn't want her. She does, more than she's wanted anyone in a long time. She justā€¦ doesn't know how to do this anymore. To make something last. As much as she wants to erase any doubt Farah has in her mind, it wouldn't be wise to rule out the possibility of there being no them, would it? They've been walking the razor's edge for months too, so who knows if she'll even want her afterwards? She could move on from her, find someone who's worth all the waiting she's done.
Zuri looks down at the cobblestone road. The thought of that hurts more than it should.
Shit.
Say something!
ā€œI-ā€ her voices hitches, she clears her throat before trying again. ā€œIā€¦don't know how much time we'll have to spend like this.ā€
That's what you chose to say. Great work, Zuri.
ā€œNeither do I,ā€ Farah's feet enter her view before a finger and a thumb is on her chin and tilting her head up, amber eyes unwavering as she gazes at her. ā€œBut that doesn't mean I'm not going to try. You are so worth trying for.ā€
A shaky breath leaves Zuriā€™s lungs. Everything inside her comes to a halt, like every part of her wants to focus on nothing but the sound of Farah's voice. Like her words have stunned her entire being into silence.
That's just it, isn't it? That's what matters, if someone is worth trying for, outcomes be damned. And she believes that she is, despiteā€¦well, everything.
ā€œZuri? You okay?ā€
Something inside her comes undone, and a wave of emotion washes over her, kickstarting her body into gear and slowly forming a lump in her throat. She might not know how to do this, but for her, she'll try. She'll do whatever she can to make this work, no matter how scared she gets or how heartbreaking the end is. Being with her is worth whatever pain might come. And if she's the reason for any burns, she'll make sure to be the balm too.
It looks like it took Farah saying what should've been obvious to her out loud for her to get it.
Wow.
ā€œYeah,ā€ she blinks a few times and clears her throat. ā€œI'm okay. I'm okay.ā€
Farah lets go of her chin, barely moving an inch before Zuriā€™s hand grabs hers, her grip gentle as her thumb runs over her knuckles.
ā€œFarah, I- you're so,ā€ laughter bubbles up her throat, brief and maybe a little bit hysterical as she covers her face with her free hand. ā€œSorry, sorry.ā€
ā€œDon't worry about it. You're cute when you're flustered,ā€ Farah says with a wink.
Zuri smiles bashfully and stares down at their hands. Her skin is warm and smooth against hers. She squeezes it gently and swallows before continuing. ā€œYou're worth trying for too. You always have been and Iā€¦ feel a little ridiculous that I'm only really understanding what that means now. I'm sorry it took me this long.ā€
ā€œUm, no problem,ā€ Farah stares at her for a moment, eyes wide and lips parted. ā€œIs this going where I think it's going?ā€
ā€œYeah, it is.ā€
She beams and rises on the balls of her feet before quickly settling herself down. Zuri's heart flutters in her chest. She seems so excited, ecstatic even for them to finally be in a relationship. She shouldn't keep her waiting any longer.
ā€œI know you've wanted what's been going on between us to be something real. Something more than flirting that doesn't go anywhere. I wish I could've given you that sooner but,ā€ she pauses, taking a deep breath to quell the doubt creeping into her mind.
She holds Farah's gaze and lets it spur her forward. ā€œIf you still want that, want me, I'd like to give that to you now-ā€
Farah flings herself at Zuri. She lets out an oof as their bodies collide and arms wrap around her neck. ā€œYes! Please do! Like, right now if you want to.ā€
Zuri giggles and wraps her arms around her waist, breathing in the burst of zest and citrus from her perfume. Their hearts beat in tandem against their chests, hands clutching at each other as they hold each other close; she's so warmā€¦ holding her is like holding the sun.
Farah gives her a squeeze before pulling away enough to see her face. ā€œOf course I still want you. I never stopped, and I never will.ā€
Heat settles in Zuriā€™s cheeks as she tries and fails to respond, all that comes out is a string of incomprehensible, half-spoken words that are shortly interrupted by laughter.
ā€œGod, what are you doing to me?ā€
ā€œLet me know when you figure that out so I can keep doing it.ā€
Zuri huffs, shaking her head and smiling softly. ā€œYou know, I don't usually ask people out. Not with it meaning what it means right now. This is a first for me.ā€
Farah snuggles into her, her cheek pressing against her neck. Her voice is muffled, but she can still hear her smile.
ā€œI'm glad you did.ā€

its so crazy to be in non-queer-friendly spaces because to me i think its just so normal to see queer people making out becuase i have a larger support group and a lot of the spaces and activities i do are very queer-friendly. but then i get hit in the face when im not in a queer-friendly space because all of a sudden everyones riled up by two girls making out on the wall at a party and its like i should have expected that but also its the biggets culture shock ever

Iā€™m new here and I absolutely love your type of blogs with analysis and meta and long texts~~
I was wonderingā€”is Eunyung and Haejoonā€™s relationship the kind that could be interpreted as romantic?
first of all, welcome and ty! and sorry it took me so long to reply, i hope u're still around anon. now to answer ur question
i'll take this opportunity to share all my thoughts on the topic bc i have Many.
TLDR: it is possible to read it as romantic if you really want to, but it's not meant to (at least not as of right now in the story aka ch.224)
deep dive under the cut as to why
-> can Eunyung and Haejoonā€™s relationship be interpreted as romantic?
i like how you phrased that bc, the thing is, interpretation is very subjective. you're welcome and allowed to interpret things however you want, but in EY&HJ's case, i feel like you'd have to work a lil extra hard to get to that point.
-> is Eunyung and Haejoonā€™s relationship meant to be interpreted as romantic?
this one's easy bc no. objectively Not. the genre of No Home is drama and slice of life (and once upon a time, horror). even if they were to ever end up in a romantic relationship, that's not what the story is about.
when i ask myself what the author's intention is with this story, i'd say it's to (realistically) portray how a young person with trauma would navigate another young person's trauma. and showing how easy it is to unintentionally fuck it up for various reasons: lacking context as to what exactly said trauma is, generally not knowing how to navigate it, their own trauma getting in the way, lacking the necessary resources. take your pick.
think of it like "how should i carry someone else's baggage when i have my own to deal with?" while also keeping in mind they're kids; they often don't have enough experience to know how to help, and even when they know what the right thing to do is, they're not old enough to take (legal) action.
and especially, the most heart-breaking yet realistic thing, when you're just getting to know someone, you can't know everything about them. it's so easy to accidentally do or say sth that cuts or offends when it wasn't meant to. but when they've got their own issues, it's hard not to take it personally (eg. EY talking about HJ's parents without knowing his mom died not long ago in the beginning of the story).
-> what even is Eunyung and Haejoonā€™s relationship??
this one's so funny bc i have no idea how to answer and i'm convinced not even EY and HJ themselves would know how to answer. they're not really friends; they got off on the wrong foot and kept walking with two left feet way too much to call themselves friends. the things that pushed them together the most were the dorms (not anymore) and the same friend group (more or less since EY has multiple).
what fits them best i'd say is "the universe forced us together against our will and now we're stuck with one another altho we hate each other" (<- at least in the beginning) extended with the "misery loves company" sentiment. finding comfort in someone who gets it, even tho they only kinda get it but not really but it works out anyway except it doesn't <- THERE'S NO NAME FOR THAT *cry* they invented a new type of character dynamic smh (i've never read a pairing with so much (romantic) potential only to see them completely fuck up their chance so royally by the end of their interaction EVERY SINGLE TIME. like yeah, enemies to lovers whatever BUT NOT TO THAT LEVEL HOLY SHIT)
they've changed each other, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. they're compatible in the way they understand each other on a deeper level and incompatible in the way they don't.
...however...
this is how HJ thinks of EY: (and also what No Home is truly abt)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this is how EY feels about HJ after EY found out HJ used to steal as well (aka that HJ isn't perfect like the stuck up bitch EY thought he was at first):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so...
<- -> EY's first impression of HJ was that he was looking down on him and sth like "does this guy have ulterior motives? or is he just that naive being so trusting?" until EY found out HJ wasn't that different from him. after that, EY started admiring HJ for still managing to achieve things in life despite the hardships he had to go through. the type of admiration that can easily (and sometimes does) slip into envy.
-
since the beginning, EY has helped HJ (or at least tried to) without him knowing. sometimes it worked out, sometimes not. most times EY tried doing sth nice for HJ was (from EY's perspective) in return to HJ trying to help him or doing nice things for him (which, again, sometimes worked out, sometimes not). EY was just paying back a debt to "this stubborn naive guy who keeps getting into trouble and butting into his business. gotta look out for this idiot or he might get scammed." (<- eg. when EY offered to get HJ's money back from his uncle)
he doesn't do it for credit or friendship or out of obligation, he's just doing what he thinks is the right thing bc he doesn't want to owe anyone anything. he can't accept people just genuinely being kind, genuinely caring and genuinely wanting to help. but he's been learning and slowly coming to terms with it.
-
<- -> HJ first wanted to try befriending EY despite not liking him bc, well, the guy did steal his wallet and stab him in their first interaction. after trying and failing at it multiple times, thanksgiving happened, and HJ started thinking of EY as his underclassman bc he realized EY's just a kid with issues and he should keep an eye on him (discretely bc EY hates pity).
-
with time HJ has come to understand EY better by going after him whenever he ran off and slowly realized that EY does mean well and has his reasons (as fucked up as they might be sometimes). but his mentality abt EY is still "i gotta push him in the right direction cuz he's my underclassman and i unintentionally got attached to him (somehow??)" (also bc he knows EY already gave up on himself so he needs a lil help to find his way again. also also bc he knows EY is lowkey suicidal and he's scared it'll be his fault if sth happens) <- his care for EY comes from a protective/nurturing (/possibly maybe guilty) place which started when he realized EY was just a kid^^. in other words, HJ still bothers with EY out of a subconscious sense of responsibility/obligation in a way (a good way tho. or at least a way that gets better)
see, sth i struggle with is if HJ thinks he has to or wants to or thinks he should or can't just not help/care for EY. i can't exactly pinpoint where the sentiment is coming from. his face is too blank for me to read sometimes T_T
-
to summarize: HJ is EY's goal, what EY wishes he could've been. and EY is HJ's 'responsibility' so to speak (bc 'burden' doesn't quite fit since HJ is there for EY willingly) -> EY has a positive opinion of HJ while HJ has a neutral opinion of EY (which is also gradually getting better)
note1: i think HJ's intention (maybe subconsciously) was to be to EY what HJ's upperclassman was to him. aka someone who's there when you need it and can help guide you. it would explain why HJ kept chasing after EY despite not really having a reason to and EY repeatedly rejecting HJ's care/help.
note2: i also believe the 'upper-under-classman' relationship dynamic fits them the best atm bc it also matches the way the story often singles EY out as he's the only second year (aka younger) of the 6 MCs.
-> Romance in No Home?
another thing i should mention is that No Home rarely leaves things open for interpretation. the deepest arguments EY&HJ had were always spelled out for us, to make us understand exactly what the problem was, and how there isn't a good guy and a bad guy. it's just two people with issuesTM.
from what we've seen in the story up to this point, i couldn't pick out a moment where i'd go "here! that's romantic! that's the moment they realized SomeThing!" yk
when it comes to romance specifically, i feel like a handful of opportunities were missed. there are scenes which could've easily been written trough a rosy lens but simply weren't.
exhibit A:
Tumblr media
HJ was speechless bc "wow this mf really is actively picking a fight with an authority figure. i gotta make sure things don't escalate" not bc "hoLY sHiT hE's PreTTy. all his fangirls are on to something". however, this only becomes more clear when you keep reading the next few chapters, so i understand how you could interpret it as the latter.
exhibit B:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here they got so close and the moment was so deep bc "woaa he said he believes me. no one's said to me that before!". unfortunately, EY was panicking too much for it to mean something bc of the guilt he felt for HJ trusting someone so undeserving of trust like EY.
exhibit C:
Tumblr media
this is maybe the closest we got to romantic between these two. i think this might be the only (or at least first) ever deep interaction between them that didn't end in a fight or misunderstanding. is it meant to be romantic tho? -> ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ
-> what do i think?
first, full transparency: i went into reading this story fully expecting it to be a BL and for EY&HJ to end up together. but the more i kept on reading, the more i got the ick thinking about them being in a (romantic) relationship bc, at least from what we've seen so far in the story, their relationship would be so ToxicTM (which i personally don't enjoy reading).
as they are right now, i wouldn't want them to be together like that. like, honestly, you still can't really consider these two even friends; they just tolerate each other if the stars align correctly (altho, i'll admit, their relationship is gradually getting better!!). every big argument they had i thought "god, there's no coming back from that. i'd cut ties so quickly if was them wtf". i still don't know how they managed to keep on interacting, props to them ig.
there's a lot of unresolved issues between them. and a lot of resentment which would not bode well in a romantic relationship. the smallest argument would turn explosive and they'd be, at best, in an on&off type of relationship. they both have the power to break the other and neither would be afraid to use it. they have a lot of history together, which is not always pleasant, so if they ever were to go the romantic route, it would have to be a long way to go.
technically, i could see them in a romantic relationship if they both went to therapy first and talked out all the baggage they're carrying (both individual and shared). realistically tho, what i think will happen at the end of No Home is that either they never cross paths again after high school ends (which would absolutely break my heart Wanan pls don't), or they somehow (unintentionally) end up living together bc they both desperately needed a roommate to pay rent (which would be a hilarious fucking gag LMAO). just, HJ going to uni/work and EY doing his own thing (prolly an actor) while still cohabiting together; hanging out to watch a movie before bed <- (whether platonic or romantic being left up for interpretation)
<- -> in conclusion, from what we've seen up to this point, their relationship is mainly upper-under-classman; reluctant (maybe) friends who tolerate each other but also care (too) deeply. they've changed each other, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. in some ways they're compatible and in others they're not.
all this being said, their relationship is improving and romance between EY&HJ is not impossible, just rather unlikely imo. but, again, interpretation is subjective and u're welcome to read their relationship however you want.

oh god. oh god. oh.. oh gosh. I didn't expect this so soon. I didn't expect this today, I've been busy with life related things so the HYV calendar is really unbeknownst to me, is this update really next week already?? where can I rant about this- whERe can I rant about this-
oh. I made a blog for that exact purpose ! OKAYā€”!
fuck. fuck me, dude holy-
FUCK.
the slightly worried look on Arle's face as Snezhevna is reaching out her hand, only for her face to seemingly revert back to cold and neutral once the camera actually focuses in on her. Her tone is cold but her words are reassuring,,,,,,,,
ALSO GOD FUCKING DAMN IT. HOW GENTLY SHE HOLDS HER HAND.
the d o o r. the DOOR. THE FUCKING DOOR, CHAT. the slow opening at first, and once you can make out that it's certainly Arle's silhouette she shoves it fully open - both doors, both hands. incredibly attractiveā€”. the FEAR in that man's eyes.
The crossed hands. We can't see her face but you know what expression she's making (it's not really an expression. it's neutral but you can feel it). THE FUCKING F E A R ON THAT MAN'S FACE.
Oh- she literally just grabbed him by the throat. Just like that- ! There's the expression. Oh, you feel it, alright. If you go frame by frame, you'll notice her eyes narrow in the slightest right before ->
POV: you're getting chocked out by Arlecchino, and that's actually the least of your worries. (my god she is beautiful).
I did not expect him to simply be thrown down to the ground and I ... d i d not expect her to step on his FACE. [insert gay masochistic joke here. you know the one]. Did not expect her to smile (this is the ONLY scene wherein we see her smile even slightly... huh...) *And the reason I say "I did not expect her to smile", is because with the momentum we were getting I thought she was straight up going to crush his throat, or stab him (hand, weapon or otherwise). It looked like she was digging the forefoot of her shoe into the guys head and not the... .. y'know deadly fucking heel, so that.. confused me. (and the sound when she supposedly stomped his head in did NOT sound all that impactful) but ANYWAYS I digress-
I'm of course assuming more happened after the cut to black because . madam where did you get that bloodstain on youā€”
BLOODSTAIN ON HER FACE!?!?!? (more on this in a second)
Freminet??? Freminet feature ! (not Lyney or Lynette.. interesting). :(((( the poor boy sounds so,, desensitized. His father
holy shit quick intermission. After the mental chronological fuckfest that was "The Song Burning in the Embers" I don't think I can look at Arle and the HotH the same anymore because she's.. she's like not even 10 years older than them (?) it's insane this doesn't make any sense- ANYWAYS.
HIS FATHER comes back with what we later see to be real blood on her face. Tells him "I've acquired new funds". We know what that means... HE knows what that means!!, and the way WE - THE AUDIENCE - know that Freminet knows what it means is because the boy replies "Oh.. Okay.."
LIKE-! chat omg this is truly just routine for them,,,, Like out of the 3 siblings, Freminet always gave off the biggest child assassin vibe, but wow. To see that routine and desensitized nature of the HotH's line of work just,, splayed out in a Character Trailer is . wow. and the look in his eyes as he says it is- wow.
YEAH UHH BLOODSTAIN ON HER FACE??/ The lighting in this scene now is evidently less saturated. And it's just- oh my FUCKING GOD it does so many things:
the blood on Arle's face looks... dry. it doesn't look as fresh as you may expect which could mean many things. It could mean she spent,,, hella long in there with that guy doing what needed to be done. It could mean she took care of something else immediately after dealing with that guy (perhaps smth related to the children Snezhevna wanted to save). But regardless, it means she didn't put in the effort to clean her face and hide what happened. OBVIOUSLY !!! that is so . obviously her style but to S E E IT IN MY GENSHIN IMPACT CHARACTER TRAILER it's- oh my god
it serves to highlight the really, truly, bleak nature of the scene now that we know plain and simple Arlecchino just killed a man. There's no subtext, there's no reading between the lines. The only thing that didn't happen is that we didn't see contact nor see a body. But, no sugarcoating, Arlecchino killed a man. No one is hiding it. You are not surprised. No one should be but damn.
and ofc it acts as a representation of Snezhevna dying...
because it seems like the saturation is back once the camera switches to looking at Snezhevna laying in bed.
And is it me, or does it look like Arle's allowing herself to actually display a tinge of worry in her expression this time? And also, EVER so slightly in her tone as well. You can feel it, it's gentler.
"Once I'm better I'll start my next mission.."
THIS. THIS!! IN SO MANY WAYS THIS!
OKAY. so bear with me. I haven't actually read any of the sibling's character stories yet, so there could be a LOT of info I'm missing but:
There's still a pretty thought-provoking conversation going on (in MY mind, at least) about just how intensely these children are being trained to be soldiers for the Fatui. They're obviously in an environment that indoctrinates them into being soldiers of SOME kind, but I still don't know what kind of soldier that's supposed to be. Are they all ALWAYS extensions of the Fatui? Or are they more-so extensions of Arlecchino specifically..? Snezhevna was obviously trying to help those children she came across, and I'm assuming that happened on her latest mission, so was the mission for a charitable cause?? What was her next mission supposed to be?? Same line of work? Saving people? Or would it switch up and was she going to be sent to "take care of" (kill .) someone???
So I don't know whether to interpret that line as a hint of them being overworked and 1) feeling like they need to continue their work out of pure fear that they'll be deemed ineffective and useless... or 2) feeling like they need to continue their work out of a sense of loyalty and duty to the place that took them in and raised them. Or both..
and ofc the funeral scene. I can't say much more than what's already shown right on the screen.
and am I bugging? Or is the location of the grave....
Tumblr media
#LONG post#first of all. I am kissing Genshin Impact's (HoYovere's entire) artstyle on the mouth.#second of all#Erin Yvette#oh my god Erin Yvette.#the 'My child...' line.. what if I literally blow up the world I'm going to explode#Arlecchino is drop dead gorgeous in this. That's a given but what kind of gay person would I be if I didn't say it anyway#it's always a given with their trailers. A l w a y s.#she's so drop dead handsome oh my god I fucking hate gender#blazingramble#holy shit new tag wtf#I try not to do these on here often but...#meh. my blog#I needed a place to write it down and I'm honestly getting self-conscious abt using my discord server#I say the kids at the HotH are desensitized 'cause like.. it's FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE that they DON'T know!!!!#they can ACT like they don't !!! sure! repression is very real and these kids are exposed to a LOT of trauma. Yes#but they are NOT FUCKING IGNORANT about it#the older ones at least; of course the younger they are the more likely they're sheltered from the Fatui's violent practices#like Lyney Lynette Freminet and other kids their age are child assassins. Now I'm PRETTY FUCKIN CONFIDENT they've killed people#like it wasn't hard to believe before but (and remember I haven't read their character stories) before it was mostly believable conjecture#I can't get over the scene where she returns to the bed#Arlecchino#genshin impact#genshin#genshin arlecchino#the knave#Genshin the knave#blazingshitpost genshin edition#blazingshitpost#Youtube

Hi Iā€™m also an avid httyd 3 hater I think this video was a pretty good summarization of most of the things that were wrong with it if you wanna check it out
https://youtube.com/watch?v=bcFMEs177i0&feature=shared
"The director wanted an end from a different story". SO FUCKING TRUE. SO REAL.
From the httyd3 art book (which I'm so happy the video references):
"In general, it's more difficult to create a female character than it is to draw a male. For a female, any incorrect line and the shape can go wrong very quickly. We had to control all the shapes while keeping her both powerful and graceful so that she didn't fall to much into the reptilian category, like a lot of dragons. We wanted to explore how the Light Fury would walk and how to make her feel like a female, so we referenced lionesses and big cats."
What misogynistic bullshit am I right.
I'm going to go ahead and also show off the hearts on the light fury's forehead because it's just abysmal (this is a normal picture of the light fury with the saturation increased):
Tumblr media
Thanks for sending this video my way anon!
