19. the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic

Writing anything involving Dunwall always has me brushing up on London’s Victorian era sewer and water system (pre-1860s modernization). Maybe not the most fascinating, but I’m like… really into the original London sewer system from a public health marvel (and failure) standpoint. And with Dunwall mainly being an analog to London there’s a wealth of potential world building there to draw from. Everything from the economy, how streets and districts are laid out, class structure, the plague’s spread and handling, all of it always sends me right back into the sewers.

29. how easy is it for you to come up with titles?

Not so easy bc I overthink it. I prefer when they’re tied into the story in some way, like if the actual text of the title exists somewhere within fic itself. So I have to consider how it’ll be weaved into the narrative and all that before settling on it. That being said, they’re still all song titles/lyrics because I am, first and foremost, a basic bitch.

27 - your favorite part of the writing process

Editing my beloved!! I feel like that’s the point at which my writing actually comes to life. Correcting and rewriting my own work feels effortless and fun, and it’s when my writers voice begins to take shape within my work.

28 - your least favorite part of the writing process

First draft. Uuughh. Writing my novel-length outlines is easy but once it comes time to translate that to story, it’s a huge mental labor. Really gotta lock in during that phase. This is when I often come to realize that certain ideas in my outline don’t work in practice, and then I’m left coming up with new ideas on the fly as I’m writing. Though they usually end up being the best parts of my fics though, so overall it’s a net positive, I just suffer in the process lmao.

For instance, in ch 14 of beyond the spheres that whole passage about Alastor reading in the library at Shindearey Peak and feeling empathy for the Outsider, I pulled that out of my ass bc something else I had planned for that ch wasn’t working. Turned out to be the fave part of that chapter for most commenters, and mine as well! So even though I hate this part of my writing process, I don’t plan on making any changes to how I go about it since I’m always happy with the end result.

My favorite local bookstore! The building it’s in used to be a 1920s cinema so it has high vaunted ceilings and lofts and is full to the brim with inspiration whenever I hit writers block. Plus it has a coffee shop and work tables within. There’s a little community of people who spend a lot of time hanging out there and I enjoy being a quiet part of it while I write.

i think one thing that will really invariably get me to click out of a fic immediately, if i even get as far as opening it in the first place, is He Would Not Fucking Say That’s hornier cousin “he would not fucking fuck that hard or that prolifically”. like when regardless of canon personality a character enters the bedroom and immediately becomes this almost christian grey parody ultra suave dom with dubious bdsm practices and it’s like. i’m very sorry but i truly hand on heart do not think he knows how to use his dick like that
