Stretching the music genre and the prompt a bit here, but this is a great cover by a band that does a lot of traditional folk, and I feel like surviving a firing squad is 1) folk-song worthy and 2) enough to make anyone think twice about messing with you

In her latest body of work, Alexis expands the conversation by visualizing souls journeying through a celestial space -- the Ether, an invisible medium that exists in Space. Travel through the Ether, parallels the Black experience, mirroring the nuances of how Black people must navigate space, challenging perception and reality, and in the same vein, the Ether is transitive in how it affects everything it encounters. In her paintings, a combination of works on paper and canvas, Alexis employs various temperatures of deep black and violet procion dyes contrasted with soft drips of gold mica powder. Each painting simultaneously advances and recedes the figures enveloped in interstellar travel. The Ether - Journey in Between invites viewers to navigate a third space that enables Black people to move with boundless freedom, confidence, and wisdom.
