Don’t Be Ashamed! -Shadows

Shadows hold in them our secrets, the parts of ourselves we don’t share with the world. Our shadow has the power to consume us if we allow it. After all, there’s a lot of work to do in the shadows and it can be difficult to navigate through years of darkness within yourself. Shadow work is essential to our progression in spirituality and can have not so pleasant consequences if even tastefully ignored.

Where do you even start investigating the darkness within? Some have so much hidden in their shadow it can become overwhelming. The best way to start shedding light is by asking yourself questions, question everything! Question why you cut someone off in traffic or what is it that really annoys you about that pesky overzealous coworker. As you progress in your question asking you will find answers, which leads to more questions and deeper down the rabbit hole you’ll go, until you finally have illuminated and become aware of the deepest depths of your shadow.

Before you can integrate your inner darkness and be accepting of it, you must go through the process of admittance that what’s inside is really yours. A lot of times we like to deny our secrets and pretend that they don’t exist within us. This can be portrayed by great distaste of that exact subject. For instance- a person who deep down has a foot fetish but is utterly ashamed of it, will find themselves over exaggerating how much they hate feet.

So take a look at things that disgust you and ask yourself why they bother you, take a look at your actions finding the base reasons that make you tick, most of all sit back and grab the popcorn because it’s a long journey but a rewarding one.

The Insomniac

I always lay awake at night thinking about the moon, the stars and the dark city sky. At times I feel that the dark sky is just like my heart maybe that's why I lay awake at night revelling in watching a sky that mirrors the darkness within me. Or maybe I'm just like the moon borrowing light from the Sun or the people around me to appear bright, happy but actually having no real light within me. Or maybe I'm like the stars which are dead but still appear to be alive to everyone watching them.

What happens to those left behind after something awful happens? A high school romantic suspense.

 I knew I had good people in my life, like my best friend, Matt, my gal pal, Mercy, and my big brother, Grant, a guy who had become my mother, father, and trusted older sibling all in one. But then, I also had Bowie Phillips, a boy I had unknowingly wronged at some point along the way.  I don’t know what I had said or done, but he was spiteful and always with a devil like smirk on his face. Maybe it was simply because puberty had seemed to hit my peers with a bang, while I had been left behind trying to figure out how to fit in when I clearly didn’t. 

 Then something awful happened.  Something that changed everything.  Something that gave Bowie more reason to hate me.  Something everyone refused to forget. Something I had to pay the price for.

 I’ve always been pin-holed as the wicked bully, the guy to fear and keep your distance from.  Middle school was hell for a kid like me. However, when I hit high school, the rules changed.  As it turns out, being the bad boy with a footballer’s physique gives you the power to become king, while the good, innocent, girls, suddenly fall, becoming nothing more than peasants at my feet.  What can I say?  Karma is a bitch, but so is Amelia Thomas.  My best mate, Matt, may worship the ground she walks on, but his obsession won’t stop me from using little Millie for my own amusement.

 Then something awful happened.  Something that changed everything.  Something that gave me more reason to hate Amelia Thomas.  Something I won’t let anyone forget. Something that cannot go unpunished.

But at the same time, she thought he’d read between the lines the way she did. She thought he’d seen the same things, thought the same things, agreed to the same terms she did when they’d formed this… whatever it is.

Friendship, partnership, something else, she doesn’t know. It doesn’t have a name. It’s just it. The elephant in the room no one comments on outside of hushed whispers at the fringes of their circle. They dance around each other and they skillfully sidestep openings to talk about what this is, because whatever it is, it’s too precious to lose. It’s too fragile and precious and important to them.

At least, that’s what she’d thought. That’s what she’d seen it as.
