In place and time

The meaning of life, at some point I guess we have all faced an existential crisis. We have questioned who we are, what we stand for, what we believe, what we value. We have scrutinised ourselves and pitted our experiences against our expectations, our efforts against our rewards and sometimes our losses have dwarfed our successes. Our crisis has not been limited to ourselves, we have even questioned our associations – family, friends and colleagues – and if, in any way, they are a necessary part of us in this existence.

But we have also imagined, even dreamed of an ideal, a place and time where all things align in perfection – no thoughts, no worries, no pressure just tranquillity. A place and time were we realise the potential we believe we possess and experience our deepest desires. However, reality is not utopian.  In reality, the ‘ideal’ is in the everyday. It comes in bits and pieces. It’s the moments in the day when we encounter and experience what we idealise and some times it happens unconsciously. On reflection though, we notice those moments and those questions answered, albeit after the fact.

So what does this mean? Is life history? Maybe. Because in most instances it’s in reflection that we live, that we are present. The moment has long gone but we can recapture what it felt like to live it and what we understood, though we did not consciously live it when it occurred. But that is not to say we do not, in full awareness, live in the moment - feel it, understand it and identify our own existence. We inhabit some moments, cognisant of the range of emotions, thoughts, people and conditions. We are fully present in that place and time, alive.

The beauty of life is in being conscious of our existence. Being conscious of the here and now - the joy, comfort, pain, struggles, triumphs, and people – as it happens. There’s a beginning and an end, to everything, and in many instances, what matters most is what happens in between – living, to be present in place and time.

I can’t believe this day has come... it will definitely take me a while to get used to, but I shave officially wrapped up my 20’s and started my 30’s. • • I have so much to say about this transition, but I’ll leave that to tomorrow’s update along with my new blog post. • • For now I will just like to share with you these veeeery old pictures from the very beginning of Instagram, back in January 2012 when I was only 22. • • Also I would like to share what I am thankful for, especially in these crazy times... I am thankful for my supportive and loving family and friends, I am thankful for my gifts of writing and drawing, and I am thankful for my health and the health of my family and friends. • • And I am looking forward to this new path, and all the new challenges and surprises that come with it.
