What is music without the ear?

A vibrational stimulant in transaction from chakra to octave? Perhaps to me mentally. Layered like nacho tetrahedrons and conviscated pipe cleaning accessories? I honestly do not know because I’ve never lived a day without both; my ears nor music. Well of course temporarily while being incarcerated from time to time. Petty crimes brings bad times.

Elements of emotions, like the waves from the coast of the ocean never stop crushing. The thunder inside of me was rushing through my veins at this particular moment because I was so angrily mistreated. I was definitely pissed and felt ever so powerless.

This is where music helped me heal from these trauma based situations and allows me to relax to watch wonders unfold by paying more attention to the situations at hand. Before me and before me; situations that somewhat like music because like music you can feel but cannot see it. The vibrations of emotions alone.

“I want my f**king CD player back b***h” thats what I told the officer who broke my nose and gave me two black eyes. I was so angry and ruthlessly young. I was 22 years old at the time. They released me 2 weeks later, that’s why the only thing I remember clearly at the time were sounds and emotions alone. Only because I was in jail that long without my vision.

I couldn’t see s**t And my brother in law died that day (Rip James) and I couldn’t be there for my sister and their 3 kids. Saying the silence of being blinded behind bars is an understatement.

Upon being detained I had just got paid and bought a new phone and portable CD player so these things were in my backpack along with an untapped bottle of “Polar Ice Vodka” (lll get to that story later)

Wait! Let’s back up here a second.

Yes boys and girls, when someone who has to wear glasses for a living to simply see gets 2 black eyes that means they were shattered in the process. Against the face. Eyelids to frame on one side but the squabble with the 2 officers was inevitable.

For some reason because they saw me running to my company who had been waiting for my arrival (in Deep Ellum) at the time. They thought i was running from some fight incident where a police officer was punched in the face by a stranger. They saw me skipping on by and decided to attack me. I got accused of being that stranger.

(Simply at the wrong place at the wrong time, I mean me and my cousins could have picked anywhere else to meet up in our hometown of Dallas, Texas- but Deep Ellum was the place to be if you’re a musician or artist. At least at that moment of time it was. The year was 2005.)

As I was being handcuffed and put into the squad car, I remember hearing my new phone ringing. My ringtone at the time was set to Field Mob’s “Georgia” so all i could hear were the lyrics of the chorus chanting “we on the grind.... all time yeah... nothing on my mind but... Georgia!”

That was the last time I heard music before being released months later.

Time, is but a phase as the Creative Forces Unite for Volume 5 in this Matrix themed installation, hosted by various artist(s) from across the nation on Theatre Mutiny’s Instagram page. Join us on August 4th, from 5:00 - 10:00 pm (pacific standard time) as we hack the fabric of reality on Instagram Live.

In unity from where they stand, artists will each perform 15 minute creative sets for our live audience via host page @TheatreMutiny! In Indica: Episode 5 the PTC interviews fellow Emcee and comrade A.M.A.R.U. of Santa Ana, California. Did you know that the acronym A.M.A.R.U. stands for Analyze My Always Rotating Universe? Well, we just found that out by discussing all things hip-hop with our brother A.M.A.R.U. in this weeks Indica segment. Influenced by the hip-hop culture at a young age but still carrying the weight of his ancestral roots at heart. A.M.A.R.U. gives us a peep of what it is like to be a family man while still holding it down as an Emcee in todays diverse culture.
