Here are my TOP FIVE photos posted to Tumblr at least in 2024. This selection process made me realize how little I have shared on Tumblr, mostly due to a lack of community engagement. Great frames silently sitting in cyberspace. 2024 was full of great captures! For example, I have an awesome new series on Instagram that can only be called 'painting with light.' Check it out! Parisian-Persian chic with a blend of lace, slinky elegance, and allure ✨🖤 . . Growing up, I always felt like the ugly duckling, never quite fitting the beauty standards of both my cultures.

In Mexican and Iranian heritage, curves and a womanly figure are the beauty ideals. Growing up as the awkward, skinny girl, with the tomboy physique who was a late bloomer brought me so much insecurity and pain.

I always felt that my Hispanic-Persian mix gave me a look that didn’t align with the beauty standards of small, delicate facial features I saw around me. In Iran, it's common for girls to get nose jobs and other cosmetic surgery at a young age—it’s just the norm. I was always self-conscious about my features. No one ever told me I was beautiful or exotic. Instead, my own parents would point out my flaws and make fun of me.

It took years to embrace my unique characteristics and realize that self-acceptance is one of the most beautiful gifts you can give yourself. Here’s to loving the person I’ve become, flaws and all. 💜 . . 📸: jophoto on IG – Thank you so much! 🥹🙏

Just finished reading "The Toad" by Hans Christian Andersen. Anyone else familiar with this piece?

"A very exciting story of a little toad, who motivated by the excitement for adventure, leaves his home at the bottom of a well, and his curiosity leads him into some very interesting adventures. He bears inside his head a most precious jewel, the ceaseless longing for a higher experience. In the end he is carried as far up on a stork's mouth as he ever could be. This tale imparts the thought that our finest possession is not what we own, but what we are."

My emotions are quite mixed after reading this piece. There were numerous hidden (and dark) side themes intricately woven into the main story that are worth reflecting upon.

It brought to mind a photo we took in the spring with Ava, featuring a captivating toad statue in a park. Ava shared a story about a toad's poison saving her life. We delved into the realms of a love story between a butterfly fairy and a toad or even a twisted tale where an enchantress turned the toad into a statue out of excessive love.

Regardless of how the photos turned out, the creative process behind them has planted imaginary tales in my mind. I contemplate them. I reflect on them. I hold onto them. They are the remnants of my childhood that will eventually age away forever.
