GUYS OMG I JUST SAW MY FIRST MUSICAL. my Highschool did a Percy Jackson musical and OH MY GOSH I was BLOWN away. now you get to hear about it (please keep in mind I have only read the first book, which is what the musical was anyways but it was YEARS ago and I don’t think I even completely finished it SOOO. also spoilers ig?)

Percy did so well and his solos and singing was so beautiful and he really portrayed his emotions so clearly and he was SO FUNNY FKTJRKWNDNFNNE LIKE OMG IF IT WASNT A THEATRE ID BE ROLLING

Grover did a fabulous job as well! He was also incredibly funny and I just love the little sidekick bestie vibes he’s got he’s so silly :)

ANNABETH omg. she did so well! she really got her emotions out there and her need to impress her mom and WOW THE FIGHT SCENE AT MEDUSA’S HOUSE WITH PERCY OR WHATEVER it was so intense! she slayed SO HARD and she was also a FANTASTIC DANCER YEA GIRLBOSSSS

luke! omg luke! HE DID AMAZINGGG I LOVED HIM HE ROCKED THAT ROLE SO WELL. I forgot he was the lightning thief so the betrayal scene was SHOCKING (HAHAHA IM SO FUNNY)!!! I really loved how he did him he completely fooled me with the friendly camp counselor or whatever he was I forgot JDJJSJRFKSJ BUT HE BLEW ME AWAY I LOVED THE FIGHT SCENE WITH HIM AND PERCY

so they had a scene and whatever with the farrier in the underworld AAAAHAHA THE FARRIER WAS SO AWESOME. SHE SLAYED THAT SO DANG HARD AND HER MUSICAL NUMBER WAS MY FAVORITE. THE REST OF THE ENSEMBLE SLAYED THE CHOREOGRAPHY IN THAT SCENE AND I WAS JAMMING ALONGGGG‼️‼️ it was such a funny scene and I hold it dear!!

HADES ISTG HADES. he had SUCH A DRAMATIC SCENE AND I CHEERED SO LOUD (dw everyone else did too) and he ROCKED IT SO WELL he perfected that snarky antagonist that doesn’t really care but still has motive and bonus of being a pain in the butt! and he drawled SO WELL I KID YOU NOT HE HAD ME CAPTIVATED. I LOVED his part!!!

dude… Poseidon… LMFAOOO IM DEADD. they had him portrayed as some dude in a Hawaiian shirt THE ACTOR DUDE I WAS ROLLING HE WAS SO FREAKING HILARIOUS. he kinda had that low chill surfer dude voice and he had THE FUNNIEST BITS especially at the end when he reunited with Percy and his mom. I love that take on his character. I’m PRETTY sure he’s not like that in the book 😂😂

And Percy’s mom was awesome too! her singing was GORGEOUS and I loved her moments with Percy :) not much to say other than SHE DID AMAZING‼️

BRO I CANT GET OVER THE TRIO THO. their bits were HILARIOUS and they definitely held those “stupid besties that r probably doomed but we’re rocking this anyway” vibe that ANY good book/movie main group holds AHDHEJRIE THEY WERE HILARIOUS. Dude Percy and annabeth did amazing together and Grover was so SPUNKY YES and the ENSEMBLE THEMSELVES AAAAAA I CANTTTTT ESPECIALLY IN THE UNDERWORLD SCENE THEY ALL HAD SPUNKY OUTFITS AND THE DANCING WAS AWESOME!!!! THE CAMP HALF BLOOD SCENES WERE ALSO SO COOL AND IM RUNNING OUT OF COMPLIMENTS BUT LMFAO THEY HAD A BIT WHERE THEY SANG ABOUT THEIR GOD PARENT AND ALL OF THEM JUST SLIGHTLY INSULTING THEM TO FULL ON INSULTS WAS BEAUTIFUL.

overall, this was a great experience for me! I could really tell all the love and passion the students/actors had for this and I appreciate that they wanted to share with me and the audience members! It was a magical thing and I wish them all a FABULOUS JOB because they DESERVE IT‼️‼️‼️💖💖💖💖💖 they really made my whole week and I might even consider joining theatre too :D

you know the thing about The Menu (2022) is that so many people came out of it being like "haha eat the rich" and yeah, sure, but really the chef's issue wasn't with the rich people, I mean he hated them and wanted them dead yes, but his issue was that he had let the world of ambition take him so far from the joy of cooking that he once felt, from the art that he loved to make, because he let himself chase status and exclusivity, when really he could have been making his art for everyone, at a certain point he did not need to be cooking for rich people he could have found people who appreciated his food because they loved food, he could have leaned into the art he loved instead of the art he was expected to make with the set dressing he was expected to make it in, and that is a critique of capitalism, but it's not an "eat the rich" type critique, it's not just rich people who have had their relationship to art changed by capitalism, we all have in one way or another, think about the phrase "consuming content", we are consuming, not savoring, and what does it mean to be an artist when being an artist means being a content creator, being consumed, and what artistic principles can you really afford to have when you need to make money to live, but what principles will you forget to pick back up when you have the money, how far gone from yourself do you have to be to no longer be able to go back? What does it mean when you haven't cooked a burger for yourself, for your friends, for someone who loves a burger, because you're always, only cooking for those who can afford you? What do you cook for yourself? Do you savor it? What art do you make when no one's watching? Can you still make art when no one's watching?

but the other thing about The Menu (2022) is that they literally don't eat the rich people. Look at me. They do not eat the rich people they are all burned alive, guests and staff, and that's Different

My preemptive apologies for stepping in and being a freak in a perfectly funny post, but the original premise is interesting because the difference between theatre (acting) and playing pretend is difficult to pinpoint. If we take Jorge Dubatti's definition of theatre, what playing pretend does is indeed very similar to what theatre does: establishing a world parallel to ours that follows its own rules (poíesis), and it shares another trait which is the physical presence of the actors in a shared time and place (which he calls convivio).

But Dubatti's definition is triadic, and the third component is what sets it apart from other practices, namely the presence of an audience (espectación, spectation). So, essentially, play pretend is acting when someone is watching.

teenage sammy is soooo. canonically a mathlete canonically a soccer player canonically a theatre kid canonically did tech (i know the latter two could be the same thing but i do not think they are; ep mentions him being in our house and oklahoma and mentions him having done tech... ur not IN a musical if you did tech for it.... sam was on stage AND at another venture he did tech... my little theatre kid...). How did he have time for this. did he just sign up to every extracurricular he could find. probably as a way of getting out of the motel. Sorry dad i cant come hunt tonight i have theatre rehearsals :) and you just know john HATED it. what do you mean you have theatre rehearsals i dont give a fuck about your theatre rehearsals you blew off a hunt for soccer practice three days ago you are NOT doing that again...... and sam going But the director will kill me if i dont show up an do you really want me to draw attention to myself??? You dont even need me i might as well go..... john is probably two seconds away from making a homophobic remark about sam doing theatre before he reconsiders because maybe sam's actually gay and he doesn't care if sam is gay as long as sam hunts. sam misses the theatre rehearsal. still signs up to do oklahoma in the next town though. this post snowballed
