This is a really good article. I agree with Sturtevant, and many other Asatrur and medievalists in that we cannot allow white supremacists to effect our behavior. Swastika are one thing, as it’s been so detestable in public conciousness for so long. But for the runes, or Mjolnir, I do not think that those of us with a spiritual connection to these things should put them away because fucking Nazis and neonazis also use them. If you want to use the runes or wear a Mjolnir, and you’re a decent person, that’s your right. If you’re a Nazi fuck, fuck you, you have no right to exist. Allowing Nazis to control what you do by limiting yourselves to only things they have not touched gives them a disgusting amount of power over you. Like I don’t think people realize, if you think that a certain symbol is cool and it resonates with you, and you want to use it, but you don’t because people you hate also use it, you’re giving those people you hate control over YOUR decisions. You’re empowering them, and you’re policing yourself based on their behavior. This is real occultism friends. Additionally, I understand why some would say “wearing these symbols creates an unsafe space for historically marginalized groups.” I really do. The last thing I want to do is make people uncomfortable, because I know that feel as a generally uncomfortable, awkward dude. The thing is, Asatru is so historically oppressed (mostly by Christianity) that we don’t even know the true name of the religion. Asatru means true to the Æsir, but it is not the historical name of Norse religion. That was erased from history by Christians. Some of it’s symbols were appropriated and misused by the Fucking Goddamn Nazis, but that ADDS to the oppression and suppression of my religion. The religion of my ancestors. Also, I don’t get if people realize this, but the LGBTQ+ Asatru community is FUCKING HUGE. Like maybe it’s because I’m pretty queer, but most of my followers are at least allies of the LGBTQ+ community, and will at least reblog LGBTQ+ content occasionally. So when I read “Some medievalists feel that the use of any symbol that is used by the far right is not acceptable because it creates a space in which Jews, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and other historically targeted groups feel unsafe” I had to laugh, as a member of the LGBTQ community wearing a Mjolnir. So you have a historically oppressed religion that historically oppressed people actually flock to and find comfort in, and you want to further oppress both by saying any symbol misused by nazi fuckwads can’t be used by anyone else? So anything they touch, they get to own? Fuck what it means to anyone else, the Nazis touched it so it’s theirs? I don’t think this is a positive, or even remotely logical message. I think that EMPOWERS Nazis. I think it oppresses Asatru as a religion, and it’s followers as people, who may overlap into another oppressed community, such as the LGBTQ+ community, or a minority community. Asatru is also not “all white.” Asatru is a religion, and has adherents of all races, genders and sexual orientations, from all corners of society. I think by wearing the Mjolnir and having pride in Asatru, and being a decent human being who treats others with respect and humanity, you take power away from Nazis. The symbol of Thor’s Hammer is a powerful one, and I do not think they are worthy of it. It is our symbol. They cannot take it from us. I aim to ensure that my blog and the space around my physical person is safe for all decent people. But I aim to do so while wearing my mjolnir, and being true to myself, and to the Old Gods of my prechristian ancestors.
A good article about the recent scandal in the Society for Creative Anachronism – the “Kingdom of Caid” held a coronation ceremony for its new king and queen, whose regalia had trim with swastikas and HH woven into it.

Thank you! Blogs for goddesses in the Norse pantheon? :)
Okay, gotcha! I don’t follow many blogs dedicated to Norse deities, but I know of these blogs that are run by Norse pagans, and the owners of these blogs may be able to point you in more directions.

Happy Ostara
Here are a few things you can do to celebrate:
Clean your room, yourself, etc. if it needs cleaning, today’s your day
Plant your garden (if you can this early) or start growing plant babies inside
Honor Ostara, Gerda, Freyr, Jord, and any other deities associated with fertility, the harvest, etc.
Honor the landvaettir
Paint, hide and hunt, eat eggs (or tofu)
Eat rabbit meat (with Ostara’s blessing!!!!)
Have a bonfire
If you have a community with heathen kids, have them put on a play about summer driving winter away
Check out the Ostara Blot from @theasatrucommunity at www.theasatrucommunity.org/ostara-blot

Viking Glíma style spear catching. A friend of mine, Antony Cummins, wrote an excellent book detailing how viking weapons were used in the Sagas, and one of the techniques with the spear is to catch a thrown spear and turn it on the enemy. Check out (@) vinlandknifefightingguild on Instagram for more content. If you’re interested in historical Viking weapons techniques, check out Antony Cummins book!

faengwen replied to your post: I can’t give up the Norse Gods. I just can’t stop...
Have you looked into asatru? But not the AFA. They’re bigoted butts. But @theasatrucommunity has good information. Or I can try to answer questions if you want.
My main problem is, my main deity has gone on silent mode and I don’t know what to do. I made 1 year with Loki on Yule but on Yule, he went silent. I’m unsure what my options even are.  I tried going to someone claiming to be one his Priestess, and she mocked me, teased me and then claimed a tarot reading told her I was meant for Freyr and not Loki.  It’s now over a month, and I know no God or Goddess will ever feel the same way Loki did. Some say i can choose my own Gods, and can work with Loki anyways. Some insist I was passed on by Loki to someone else for a lesson. Some say Loki will return and I just gotta keep the faith. Others say the Gods hand pick their followers. I thought I could move back to Wicca, let go of the Norse Gods and be happy. Yet, I feel homesick all over again. I love Wicca so much but I can’t forget what I had with the Norse Gods so easily. I just really want Loki back...

A modern Asatru should find strength in themselves and support the strength in others. Strength demonstrated not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Physical strength is often the easiest to achieve; lifting weights builds our muscles, so it goes with exercising our minds and our emotions.

What is TAC?
The Asatru Community is not like other Asatru organizations that you may be a part of, or have heard of. TAC is not perfect, but we strive to offer the heathen community something new, and something different. An alternative to the large, well known organizations.
Before we get any farther, I think it is important to define what Asatru is:
So what do we do? What are we for? Well, that all depends on why you are a part of TAC. We are not a “single use” organization, as a matter of fact, you may not even want to call us an organization. We are more of a network; connecting kindreds and individuals around the world so that they can provide each other, through TAC, knowledge, teachings, and aide when possible. Our goal at TAC is to try and unify as many heathens as possible to create a network of knowledge and wisdom that all members can tap into, throughout the world. We want to provide the tools needed to grow already existing kindreds, and help create new ones. We want to help those who wish to stay individual, with the resources that they need to learn and grow in the way that they want to. We want to host events, gatherings, and spread TAC’s message throughout the Asatru communities.
TAC is not a church, and nor do we want it to be. TAC is an idea. An idea that heathens of various belief systems can come together in a safe, free environment to share, spread, and gain knowledge from their fellows. An idea that events can be hosted around the world by various individuals and kindreds to help support their local communities. We understand that ideas will vary greatly, and we support and hope that they do. There can be no free thought without varying ideas. This is how we learn, and experience the real world, how it was intended to be experienced.
So what makes The Asatru Community different? Well there are a few ways in which The Asatru Community differs from other organizations. Are we better? Well that is for you to decide, but we do try to be different. We do not have any membership fees. It is free to join, and you shall never be asked to pay in order to be part of TAC. A few other ways that we are different include:
We strictly abide by our By-Laws, which we have created and feel are fair. (You can find them in the tab titled “By-laws” at the top). These By-Laws are constantly being updated to reflect the needs of TAC, and her members.
While some groups cater to kindreds, or to individuals, we put both on the same level, and honor, and provide our services to both equally. An individual is just as important to us as a large kindred.
TAC is not led by an individual, but the Board of Directors, and that board only manages affairs, that are strictly TAC related issues, not you, or your kindred.
You do not have to compromise, or change your ideals to join TAC, or participate. There will be many varying ideas.
Kindreds and individuals whom are members of TAC retain their individuality, but have access to the larger whole.
So what will TAC offer? Think of it this way, you, or your kindred is an individual village. You run things the way you want to, you are isolated, and do things the way you want. You have your own rules, you have your own ways to honor the Holy Powers, and you take care of your own the way that your own community needs to. But here and there you travel to the market place to trade, gather news, hear stories, partake in raids (we will not be doing this!) and join in some greater community events outside of your own village’s. That is exactly what TAC is! TAC is the market place you go to! You come bringing your goods to trade, (knowledge, the want to host events, services that you can provide, members, ideas, wisdom, your own networks etc.) and you get those things back in return from others around the world who have come to that marketplace, that network to trade. Do the traders present tell you what to do, or how to do something? No! So where does The Board of Directors come in then if they do not tell you what to do? Why, they would be the market guards! They stand at the side and watch. They do not tell you what to do, however If there is a fight, or a thief in the market they kick them out of the marketplace in order to keep the peaceful trading going! It is the same! The marketplace has some basic rules, which the traders and villagers have to follow in order to keep the piece, but not to control them. Are you starting to see what TAC is?
TAC has a strong online presence, and a growing presence in the real world. The people are what make TAC important. TAC is the tools and the network, but you are still the providers and the people that will make TAC grow, and become what we know it can be! Unlike other organizations, we are not all unified under one way of doing something or thinking. All of our members are free to do as they please (as long as they abide by our By-Laws). Unlike other organizations and groups, we allow you to practice, and do things the way that you want to do them. But it all depends on you, and your needs.
So why should you join TAC? Well TAC is not for everyone. If you want a network, with anchors in real people and real communities, that is safe and free of racism, a place where you can have access to growing “libraries” of information, a place where you can reach out to others similar to you, a place where there is a true sense of community, then The Asatru Community is right for you.
