necklace carpetsharks, also called varied carpetsharks, get their name from the dark band around their necks. they can grow to be around 90 cm(~3 ft) long. necklace carpet sharks are found in shallow reefs, rock, sand, and grass beds off the coast of southern australia. they feed on small invertibrates including custaceans and molluscs.

You already know them, now lets facts.
The leopard shark (Triakis semifasciata) the carpet shark may be a coral reef shark, but this one prefers sandy flats or kelp "forests". In captivity, larger leopard sharks establish their dominance over the smaller ones by light bites on their fins.
Necklace carpet shark (Parascyllium variolatum) differently to most sharks but just as most carpet sharks, is a nocturnal shark. Most sharks get active during the dawn or dusk, but not this little fella. During the day it stays on the ocean floor camuflated or in caves.

My zorasona Prin 🫧🪸 Catch me kittifying the carpetsharkS. insp from @capybonara’s prompts! She likes, finds comfort and feels closer to sea critters more than other zora. Tidbits under the cut~
Speckled Carpetshark | 6’5 | Sapphic | Autistic
lives in Caeruleis
one of Niles’s assistants (Sea Monster Biology). i'm not a biologist irl.
Her electroreceptors don't fkn work properly (how to detect/navigate via electric field) so she gets loST easily when venturing out and has terrible direction. Also cannot sense incoming danger that well
Has a tiny sea succulent collection, also collects pretty roks
Loves listening to music and can crY (good orchestra is 💦 ) sings and hums fav tunes to herself
Draws characters and sometimes other zora, also draws creatures for Niles’s books
Used to be in hospitality RIP, and was a shelver in the grand Caeruleis library
Has a crush on Chroma ///
Had a dangerous encounter with Viscera right up in her face, gets all giddy thinking about it ////
Niles took her under his wing bc she has a knack at easing creatures, kept loitering and borrowing books in his collection, and he saw her art book filled with rare creatures. She just needed guidance and help with math lol.
Mid sword skills, basic healing (mainly sea-critters) Tried to heal Bon the best she could when he got speared again by hunters, and when he was bitten by a ghost lamprey
Personality: Jesty, emotive, 0 social life, chill, odd, super tired, reserved, clumsy af, fixated, mischievous/playful jabs, mimics to fit in, confuses easily, Benne Affeck smoking on balcony meme, rather shy and says ‘fuckn’ in her sentences alot. >:O >:\ expressions too. Also takes awhile to warm up to others! nO FEAR when it comes to sea monsters and gore tho.
Other: Wears Zoops (equivalent to Loop earbuds that decrease harsh sounds while still being able to hear ppl talking). also makes odd hand gestures. Likes hotsprings! more alert at night
INSP: i love the speckled carpet shark pattern i saw at an aquarium, plus her fin and body colour are my fav colours!

sharks are an elasmobranch fish, a subclass of cartilaginous fish. there are eight orders, or families, of sharks that are categorized by their biology !!
shark orders within elasmobranchii:
classifications;
heterodontiformes(bullhead or horn sharks) - five gill slits, a dorsal fin with a strong spine and flat and sharp teeth in their mouth. an example of this is horn sharks.
orectolobiformes(carpetshark) - five gill slits, 2 spineless dorsal fins, an anal fin and spiracles(paired openings which take in water and ventilate the gills) near their eyes. an example of this is whale sharks.
lamniformes(mackrel sharks) - five gill slits, a large mouth with several rows of teeth, two dorsal fins, and anal fin and the ability to maintain a higher body temperature than the water around them. an example of this is great white sharks.
carcharhiniformes(ground sharks) - five gill slits, moveable eyelids which protect their eyes from injuries, two spineless dorsal fins, an anal fin and a large mouth with sharp teeth located behind their eyes. an example of this is hammerhead sharks.
squaliformes(dogfish sharks)- found in nearly every marine habitat, they have long snouts and a short mouth, five gill slits, two fins, and no anal fin. an example of this is spiny dogfish.
hexanchiformes(primitive sharks) - six or seven gill slits, one dorsal fin, an anal fin, thorny teeth and most live in deep cold water. an example of this is frilled sharks.
pristiophoriformes(sawsharks) - long snouts similar to saws, five or six gill slits, two dorsal fins, no anal fin, wide pectoral fins, transverse teeth and most of them live in tropical waters. an example of this is longnose sawsharks.
squatiniformes(angel sharks) - flattened bodies, a mouth with dermal flaps in front of a short snout, nasal barbels, eyes and a spiracle on the top of their head and no anal fin. an example of this is angel sharks.
*if any information is incorrect please tell me! i will correct it on here and on my research document :)
