the calendar project - day 0

because as we all know i love making my life more difficult - especially when it comes to writing, I thought I'd share a little project that I've come up with (bearing in mind it was no less than five mins after i'd woken up, but maybe its one of the better ideas I've had, cough, doubtful, cough)

so, what is this project? well, the clue's in the code-name, sort of, every day for a year i'm going to write at least a page of a story (a4 side, since that's how scrivener's page feature works - I think?) and publish it here, no redoes, no take-backs, every page i write becomes the fixed thing until the end of the year - and I see how I've done, what wants editing, and who knows maybe i'll publish on kindle or something one day

the goals for the calendar project:

write at least 1 page every day and publish it, i can write more but it must be a full page each time

have a story of at least 365 pages

attempt to use some tropes that scare the daylights out of me (hint: one bed trope is NOT one of them, but of course its going to be in there because come on)

step out of my comfort zone and write something a little emotionally deeper, something a little darker than I usually do (so, basically an adult book more than YA, yikes I don't know what im setting myself up for)

so this is day 0, simply me encouraging myself to gather some courage and get on with it - today is the day i outline how I want the story to go (outlines scare me, deeply, I've never tried to properly do one before so this is a first) and tomorrow, well, tomorrow is the day it all begins!

looking forward to (and simultaneously dreading) starting this project and i hope you're all as excited as I am!

Sketches from the Slashfic Calendar Project!

Unfortunately, due to the fallout of the prior arguments on the Dorian discord and the way the writers of Slashfic refuse to hear out their audience. From balantly stealing money from how Romancing a Slasher was handled to the horrible misrepresentation of NATIVE LATINOS, and balant queer baiting and fujioshi NONSENSE. I can no longer support Slashfic.

I still adore the characters, but I won't be drawing anything for Slashfic anymore. Any Slashfic art I do end up posting is months old! I hope you all can still find enjoyment in the art.

the calendar project - day 22

time spent: 10 minutes (cutting it real close to 23:59, i know)

Her world was out of order, her life was chaos, her very being was trapped within a deal she had no hopes of getting out of, and to make matters worse, she wasn’t trapped alone, she was trapped with Reid.

“Push harder will you? I’m taking the brunt of the work here!” Her fingers ached from pushing against the door, her feet continued to slide against the floor, never quite finding purchase, while Reid seemed to be lounging against his part of the door, hardly pushing at all. 

“Why should I? If we wait it out the lock will warm and thaw itself, it doesn’t take more than hour or two on the colder nights.” She looked down to see him sitting on the floor, eyes closed, head resting against the door. Her nostrils flared. “I am not spending another hour confined in here with you.”

“You snore, not me Isolde.”

“I do no such thing!”

“Liar.” His quiet murmur ground away at her nerves, she took two steps back from the door and threw herself against it. The hinges rattled, as did her bones, as she came sliding down the door next to Reid. He cracked open an eyelid. “You really think I haven’t tried that one before?”

“You seem resigned to sleeping against the door rather than trying to move it, how should I know?” Her hand came up to touch her shoulder, wincing at the barest of touches against the now reddened patch of skin. His eyes wandered to her shoulder, and his brow furrowed. “You’re really going to hurt yourself to get out of here?”

“I don’t enjoy confined spaces, is that good enough for you?”

“You want to get out that badly?” His eyes searched her face as though he doubted her, it sent an angry flush creeping over her cheeks. She slapped her palms against the floor and nodded furiously. Reid’s throat bobbed as he swallowed, then heaved himself up. He took six steps to the far side of the room, rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, then jerked his chin at her. “Move out the way then.”

She crawled to the side and Reid ran at the door. The floor shook with the force of the impact but the door hadn’t given in, it had forced him to bounce back instead, and he was now lying on his rear, groaning. It was one of the funniest things she had ever seen.

“You know what Isolde, if I didn’t know better, I’d say someone’s locked us in.”

Bonded Through Time - May

i deeply hate the idea that buck would just not think to give his boyfriend something for their anniversary, so imagine for a second that buck didn't necessarily forget to get tommy something, he just thought too far ahead and got him a christmas gift instead.

because even before his conversation with josh, buck had thought about the future and seen tommy there with him. he saw tommy sat next to him at maddie and chim's table at thanksgiving with their family, plates full of food bobby insisted on cooking, sharing what they’re all thankful for. imagined tommy’s big, warm hand on his thigh as they dozed on the couch. that he'd had visions of a perfect christmas season together. imagined tommy in his sweatpants wrapping garland around the banister in the loft; the way they would have kissed under the mistletoe buck would have hung from every door frame just so he could feel tommy's lips against his again and again; murmuring i love yous and slow dancing in the warm light of the tree they'd picked out together. of waking up wrapped around each other on christmas morning, tommy's nose buried in the curve of his neck. he'd imagined it being their first of many.

but he'd been so excited about the future that he hadn't considered that maybe they weren’t on the same page. he hadn’t anticipated the way tommy's smile got smaller as buck went on and on that night, the light in his eyes dimming as buck talked about how much he admired tommy, the way tommy looked like he was breaking his own heart when he told buck that he was his first, not his last. that for all he'd imagined different scenarios in which they said those three words, he'd never actually said them. and then tommy had walked out, taking the way evan sounded rolling off his tongue with him.

and now instead of planning out a perfect holiday, buck, surrounded by the detritus of yet another round of baking, is staring at a box holding the custom ornament he'd ordered a month ago. with no tree to hang it on and no boyfriend to gift it to, he goes ahead and takes it out. the glass is delicate, with holly leaves etched around the top. the bottom is stained a perfect ocean blue, tommy and evan's first christmas in looping white text, breaking the flow of the painted waves. but the most important part, the one thing he'd insisted on, was the small crystal helicopter hanging inside. he loves it, and he thinks tommy would too. buck wonders if it would seem desperate to try to give it to him now, or if it would hurt more to keep it and pretend it isn't there. staring at it isn't helping him decide what to do.

what he does know right now is that he needs sleep. he sighs as he puts the ornament back in its box. he goes to bed hoping the morning will bring an answer.
