I found this edition of The Wild Wood by Charles de Lint and I had no idea about this Froud’s Faerielands series- which I’m obsessed with now.

Instead of telling men to repress their emotions to appear stronger we should encourage them to sing incredibly dramatic ballads to process their emotions like in fictional movies. Maybe the world would heal faster. And also it would be very funny.

“…like music entangled in a thorny embrace, leaf-sigh, branch-rustle. It has no melody, but the underlying rhythm, the tap-tap-tap of a stick against stick against twig against hollow wood, holds a kind of tune. Not one I can hum- can’t hold a tune anyway. But I almost recognize it. It’s the voice of blood, slow sap blood, quick wind blood, underground river, underskin river, all mingled.”

this would work much better with a third naissancee-ultrakill axis but that's beyond my graphing capabilities

I've been watching alot of different iterations of Wind in the willows (the Disney one, the live action 1996 movie, a stop motion series, etc) and the more I watch, the more I adore the West Ends version of it, SPECIFICALLY because of the Wild Wooders. In every other iteration, they have such a minor role, and their only personality trait is "scheming and evil," or they are DIRECTLY involved with getting Toad arrested and putting in jail (ei, selling him the cars or influencing his addiction in another way) for a grander scheme. But in the West End production, it feels like the Wild Wooders are more morally grey characters. Where in the other iterations the Weasels (I'm not gonna refer to them as Wild wooders cause there's literally JUST weasels. West End is the first I've seen to include stoats and foxes) are basically acting out of greed, the Wild wooders are acting more out of a need to survive. They're doing it cause, if they don't, there's a good chance they might actually DIE. They aren't one note villains who are just evil "because" they clearly have a deeper story to them, and their actions are based on a want to just survive and look out for each other. The music and cosutme designs already put the West End production at the top of my list, but even taking that out of consideration, the way the Wild Wooders are portrayed alone is enough to keep it as my absolute favorite Wind in the Willows.
I think it shows far far we've come as a society
100 years ago you could say "and then they stole the rich man's house" and that would have been a horrible thing, people would naturally dislike those characters. Nowadays if you hear somthing like thst you almost have ti stop and ask yourself why
The wild wooders were give a reason why
