SAC Crew Dogs: Anything to Help Out

Imagine flying an F-104 back in the 1963. The engine's not working right and it's time to get back on the ground. Read on to find out how he made out...

Just prior to air refueling, Captain Roger J. Wichers, 479 Tactical Fighter Wing, George AFB, California, noticed a slight loss of thrust in his F-104 and that the nozzles had drifted halfway open. When he pulled the emergency nozzle area control, the nozzle closed so he thought the problem was minor. About 30 seconds later the engine oil low level light came on. Captain Wichers then lit the after· burner and pushed the emergency nozzle area control handle back in.

Realizing that, with the afterburner functioning, he would need fuel soon, he maneuvered behind the KC-135 to hook up. As he moved in, he pulled the throttle back slightly and the afterburner blew out. After successfully obtaining a relight, he made a hookup using only speed brakes but started closing on the tanker too rapidly. He extended full speed brakes and instinctively pulled the throttle back slightly. Once again, the afterburner blew out. Now the nozzles would not fully close, and the afterburner did not relight. The aircraft would not maintain altitude without the afterburner and started descending slowly.

After two unsuccessful attempts, Captain Wichers was able to light the after burner at 22,000 feet and immediately climbed back to the tanker to try another hookup. After two passes he asked the KC-135 pilot to increase his speed, then using speed brakes, hooked up and filled his aircraft with fuel. He stayed hooked up and continued to use fuel from the KC-135. Approximately 100 miles out from base his aircraft started to oscillate and fell off the tanker, but rather than try another hookup, Captain Wichers flew a trail position on the tanker until over the base.

Due to cloud cover Captain Wichers was forced to make a weather penetration that was made even more difficult because he did not want to cut out the afterburner until the runway was in sight. Radar monitored his penetration and vectored him over the field where, by skillful maneuvering, he landed the aircraft successfully.

Although the oil pressure fluctuated for the last hour of the flight and investigators found less than one gallon of oil remaining, the engine was not damaged. Oil was lost through a cracked line leading to the nozzle area control pump.

Captain Wichers demonstrated outstanding pilot ability and sound evaluation of the emergency to save a valuable USAF aircraft. Well Done!

Witchers can only be mortally wounded by those they deeply care for. This makes the death of witchers all the more tragic. Their deaths are caused by betrayals, one-sided relationships, and mercy killings.

Of course, there are also cases where mages try to manipulate wichers' loved ones using spells, turning them into weapons.

Jaskier's eyes were clouded, dulled by the mage’s spell.

"Let him go," Geralt growled, but the mage only chuckled.

"A witcher can only be hurt by someone they truly care for," the mage sneered. Though Jaskier was under the spell, tears glistened in his eyes. "Shall we put that to the test?"

"I'm not going to hurt him," Geralt said firmly. He wasn't afraid of death, but harming Jaskier was unthinkable.

"Is that so?" the mage mused, pressing a knife into Jaskier's hand. A heartbeat later, the bard rushed at him.

I FINALLY END MY SUMMER JOB!!! And when i was working, my mind was full with the wicher. Im still reading books but i seriously like this stories. You know, im polish and the books are also polish. This is my bonding moment with cultures and this shitty country. Anygays.

Here are some details about this au:

1. Geralt was injured after a fight with some monster and Ciri finds this house. She decided to stayed there for some days for recovery. That was really late autumn and nights were starting to get cold. House seem nice and able to live in casually. Had bathroom at attic and free rooms at botto. And a really cozy taras. Also at the back, more deep in forest was small "stable" for Roach. They stayed there for winter.

2. House was not far from town, at bottom of mountains. Geralt ride before first snow for some food and important things. He met Jaskier in local inn. After small talk, witcher proposal him, to went together to cabin, ofc if he didn't have plans for weekend. (And because he missed him sm). Jasker immediately said "yes".

3. Snow fell and Jaskier needs to stayed with them for a little while, because the road to the city was covered with snow. (That was just good excuse to stay. Geralt normally went to city with killed monsters and to did his job) Sleeping on very uncomfortable couch.

4. After one week Jaskier's back had enough. He took his pillow and went to Geralt's room. Witcher was fine with sleeping in one bed with bard. They talk about putting mattress on attic but they never did. Sleeping in each other arms was to good.

Ten stan utrzymywał się długo, dopóki do Doliny nie zawitał Szepcząca Noc i jego siostra, Tytoń—oboje z nich byli dziećmi dawnej cienistej kotki, która zdołała uciec z klanu przed pożarem, i którzy byli wychowywani przez nią właśnie po to, by odbudować upadły klan do dawnej chwały. Cieniści gwiezdni byli zbyt licznie zapomnieni przez świat, by móc dać im pełnię błogosławieństwa—Szepcząca Gwiazda został przywódcą o trzech, a nie dziewięciu życiach.

Friday, May 9: Soilwork, "Blind Eye Halo"

Stabbing the Drama was the dividing line for Soilwork, a decisive pivot that pushed the most melodic aspects of the Gothenburg sound right to the breaking point (and arguably past it, depending on the listener).  From that point forward the band’s claims to melodic death metal were based almost entirely on their origin story, despite the occasional freakout like “Blind Eye Halo” plopped in to supposedly make the case that they were still in touch with their roots.  But even then, Peter Wichers and especially Björn “Speed” Strid seemed to approach the track more out of obligation than inspiration: Dirk Verbeuren brought the blastbeats, but Wichers was obviously more enthralled by metalcore and couldn’t help but layer in no small amount of breakdowns, while Strid couldn’t wait to get to the singing parts.  It was still a tightly written and executed track, and at less than two and a half minutes it made its point quickly and cleanly.  But it was also clear to everyone that “Blind Eye Halo” was more of an outlier and respite from where Soilwork really wanted to be.
