Where do you think was the Vishanti during the "last days of magic" storyline?
Well, the Vishanti is definitely tied to the Earth's dimension, but I don't think they really live there (they only appear as etereal images and, in Agamotto's case, inside the orb). Maybe they weren't affected by Empirikul's assault because they live in a higher plane (like Eternity and The Living Tribunal, for instance).
Stephen drained Earth's ley lines during his fight, which almost extinguished all magic. After that, I believe the magic connection between the magic users and the deities was severed, making it nearly impossible for the users to commune with the deities in order to draw power from them. It's not like the deities didn't care (well, sometimes they don't), but I think that, in this particular scenario, Stephen and the others were in a tough position, isolated from the deities until magic would slowly return to its former state.
That's just a theory, of course. The lore after Last Days of Magic was badly explored, like what about the rest of the users? Wanda, Illyana, even Victor? Also what about the deities? It's a shame we don't get to see any of that...

Rhodey, during a teatime with Stephen: So... how did you and Tony meet?
Stephen, casually: Our meeting and subsequent relationship was arranged by the Vishanti; more specifically Agamotto, and we are set to marry when Betelgeuse rests in the eastern night sky and compliments the mystic nature of the planets aligning. It is then expected of us to conceive an heir to my powers on the Blood Moon between the seconds after it rises and just before it falls.
Rhodey: So... an ancient being played matchmaker? And expects Tony to knock you up so your lineage carries your title?
Stephen, cheerily: Essentially, yes.

0092: Marvel Premiere #5
Cover Date: November 1972 On-Sale Date: August 22, 1972
Tumblr media
Continuing directly from the previous issue, this installment is a bit of an oddball. Golden and Silver age star Gardner Fox writes this and the next three issues. Mr. Fox is probably most famous for creating the original Golden Age Flash. He also created the Silver Age Barbara Gordon, both the Justice League of America and the Justice Society of America, the Golden Age Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Sandman and, going back to the silver age, Zatanna for Marvel's eternal rival, DC comics. Filling in for this issue only, the art is credited to Irv Wesley. Irv is the pen name for Sam Kweskin, whom I've never heard of and needed to do some research on. Sam's work reaches back to the pre-Marvel Atlas era where he penciled horror stories. He also ran an advertising agency so his work doesn't appear to be as prolific as the industry's more famous members. The story is decent, but doesn't go anyplace the Lovecraft hadn't a half-century earlier. The story does introduce Doc's mystical patrons, the Vishanti as actual beings.
Doc lies chained to an alter surrounded by the mutating population of Starkesboro. Irv appears to mostly depict this change as giving a bunch of the townsfolk big noses. I'll stay away from the obvious, but offensive, ethnic humor. As they shout their Lovecraft inspired gibberish, a reptilian hand parts the curtain behind the alter. This is the hand of Sliggith. Immediately preceding the giant bi-pedal reptile is his priestess, Ebora. She'll be a participant in the next few stories.
Tumblr media
We also get our first mention in the arc of Shuma-Gorath, who is the real villain of story. While Ebora is shown as the priestess of Sliggith, she will be revealed Shuma-Gorath's priestess as she sets additional horrors on Doc. Doc gets Ebora to spill the beans on what's going on. Ebora goes on about how Shuma-Gorath ruled everyone, but got tired and needed a long, cosmic nap. Doc then asks why the townsfolk are looking so odd. Ebora responds with a modified version of Zadok's tale from The Shadow over Innsmouth. She is the most recent in a long line of priestesses who were allowed to remain human while her buddies turned all scaly and cold-blooded.
All this exposition was part of Doc's clever plan to get her talking and waste enough time for him to regain some strength and escape. Doc has used this tactic multiple times beginning in Strange Tales #133. He hasn't gained enough mojo yet to fight Sliggith mystically, so he has to resort to more brutal measures.
Tumblr media
Go Doc! The two trade fisticuffs. Sliggith has to be told what to cast against Doc by Ebora. It's some type of fungus. Sliggith doesn't appear to be too bright even though he's centuries old at least and ruled over thousands over that time. Doc fights back and manages to wound the mini-Godzilla. Ebora describes this as unimaginable agonies and pleads with the big, bad Shuma-Gorath for help. Maybe Sliggith isn't all that tough.
Tumblr media
Doc continues his fight and seems to be landing more blows against the green lizard than lizard-face can on him.
Tumblr media
Sliggith actually runs away!
Tumblr media
The mutating townsfolk attack Doc as Sliggit retreats. Doc fends them off with an indoor thunderstorm.
Tumblr media
Doc works his way through the labyrinth where he gets attacked by bats. He manages to shake them off by setting off the numerous cobwebs on fire. Make sure you dust often, kiddies! Doc felt The Ancient One helping him earlier and he now no longer feels his presence. Doc continues on.
We switch to The Ancient One's pad. He's still dressed in nothing but a diaper and a headband. He ruminates on how aiding Doc forced him to lower his own shields and is now beset by the Unspeakable Shadowmen of Sunken Kaa-U. The Shadowmen carry off The Ancient One to work their wicked wills on his helpless flesh.
Tumblr media
We now switch over to Clea who is awakening from an uncanny dream she believes was sent by Umar. Now we're going headlong into a couple of minor continuity problems. Clea is still living in her own place, and runs over to Doc's apartment. As we have known since the beginning of the series, Doc's got a whole McMansion to work with. Next, Clea needs to repair the Orb of Agamotto. This was shattered in Marvel Premiere #3. Here's the problem. That was done in a dream. The Orb should be intact. Clea and Wong hop in the car and speed toward Starkesboro. If Doc has a car, why did he take the bus to Starkesboro last issue?
Back at the labyrinth, Doc and Sliggith are confronting each other again. Sliggith finally gets the upper hand.
Tumblr media
Doc call on the Vishanti. This time, they don't just send him thoughts and prayers, but actually show up!
Tumblr media
Like Eternity several years ago, the trio decline to boost Doc's mojo. They claim this has something to do with cosmic balance. Even though they seem to know how terrible Shuma-Gorath is and have fought him in the past, they no longer care about the Earth and bugger off. They give him one little gift and suspend the town's evil aura. Doc can now, and does, go all out in the mystic department. Sliggith fights back, but can't seem to do very well. This ancient, mystic demon ain't so great at the magic thing. Sliggith himself now calls on daddy Shuma-Gorath for help while Ebora casts a spell to flood the labyrinth. Sliggith manages to break out of bonds Doc bound him and slither away.
Tumblr media
Doc gets caught in-between some rocks while the chamber floods and Ebora and her trident advance ominously on him.
Tumblr media
The story is fun. Fox's story doesn't really lag except for when he burns some serious real estate when Doc works his way through the labyrinth getting mopey. Gardner Fox gave us goofy and bizarre Justice League stuff in the 60s. He's a bit more restrained here, and it's pretty obvious he isn't all that familiar with Doc, particularly recent stuff. He does slide into Stan Lee's and Archie Goodwin's Lovecraftian/Howardian opus seamlessly. He'll write the next three stories and introduce us to more cosmic horrors.
The art is less fun. Kweskin's goofy style doesn't really fit the subject matter. He would be better on Archie than mystic combat stories. As it's his only Doc story, his assignment was probably a last minute, fill-on one. Because this was a rush, I forgive you, Sam!
Overall, it's a decent, middle-of-an-arc story, but hardly outstanding.

I watched Doctor Strange again today and seeing how much influence it take from Hinduism/Buddhism just made me upset because there hasn’t been ONE Hindu/Buddhist sorcerer
When is the western media gonna give credit where it’s due?

I was at the bookstore yesterday and saw the ‘Book of Vishanti’ that marvel had released and I kid you not this was the first page I opened up to!! 😩
Tumblr media
I can’t make this stuff up!
I squealed a little in the store,
Such a cute picture of Stephen and Clea 🥺
My elation quickly turned to sadness after I read the little blurb about them 😞
“ In his subconscious mind, It is a partnership that will never be over, despite all evidence to the contrary,” 😭
This line says a lot about Stephen’s love for Clea even though he doesn’t express it very much, he keeps it hidden and close to his heart, defensively, so it can’t hurt him, under all that ego and posturing that he does, he’s really soft for his wife 🥺
Luckily, we now have the comics that are giving their relationship new life
I cling to them because their relationship means a lot to me, hopefully there are some more happy times ahead for them, they super deserve it 😩

I know a lot of sad characters that are robot-like, have time related powers and are still in love with someone that is dead to know that Orikan will fuck up the timeline and the universe in a future.

Adding a new icon for the MCOC Wishlist entry for Ancient One to include Kabam's existing model for the Ancient one, in this case the alternate universe versions of Stephen Strange who became Ancient One. Also archiving some collected art of the character from the now defunct game.
The new icon features comics art of Yao, the male Ancient One from classic Doctor Strange comics canon, as well as Tilda Swinton's cinematic version, both in the background, with the MROC version centrally positioned.
